I had the schnitzel burger and that was an amazing experience, the creme brule was also really great. The price is unfortunately high but still somehow worth it. The waiter was very nice For me it's definitely worth a visit again when I'm in Hamburg

I loved dining at this place. The atmosphere is very intimate, with low lights and everything made of wood like a typical German tavern. The food is German but very well prepared. And the service is very attentive and friendly.

English: We had a very unpleasant experience and a ever solidify impression that things changed at this place. We will not return nor refer this place. Go somewhere else, there is many good places nearby. The food is just above average for Hamburg, so good. The location is cozy and the main room historic. However all the good is undone by the attitude and communication of the management. We have wittnessed this on several occasions in the restaurant already and this month had a very unpleasant interaction concerning an booking made that needed some unplanned but timely communicated changes. The owner was not willing to work out a sollution and prioritized short term profit over proactive problem solving. Be advised the management/ownership changed post Covid, so reviews predating this are not valid anymore.

We were there for dinner yesterday. At first I was happy to get a table without a reservation. The winter garden is okay, but you can only sit comfortably on the chairs. The cushions on the brick bench need to be replaced because they are already worn out and smaller people cannot put their feet on the floor. Highlight, the service is very nice. The food, with the Schoppenhauer panfish, the fried potatoes are greasy, flaky and burnt. The fish is okay, but the vegetables (Brussels sprouts with peas) are not seasoned. For 29 euros I expect more

A very nice little restaurant with hearty home cooking, including sushi. We were served quickly and very courteously and our food was on the table just as quickly. Online reservation is recommended.

We were welcomed very friendly and shown to the place. Even though the restaurant was very full with Christmas dinner, the service was very attentive, friendly and prompt. The food was very good for everyone and the red jelly was a bit more special. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas both inside and out.

Had kale with a couple of boys yesterday! The food and the ambience are great 👍🏾 the service staff was also super nice! BUT and that is an absolute no-go! We had reserved for 9 and came for 8! And had to pay €30 for the person who didn't come! Yes, we knew this beforehand and also had to fill out a contract when booking or making a reservation! However, if 8 people eat great food and drink well and the place wasn't full, then you should be flexible and customer-oriented and not do such nonsense and insist on the 30€... I definitely don't recommend this store!

Located somewhat hidden, the inside reveals a narrow but beautiful restaurant. Greeted in a friendly manner by the service, we went into the warm, but uncomfortable winter garden in terms of seating and lighting. Panfish is a good option for visitors, but you can't get it at home. The two plates came relatively quickly. The fried potatoes were very dark, the onions were no longer recognizable due to their oily consistency, and the mini pieces of fish were fried to death. After we had the comparison today in another restaurant a few meters away, with a more moderate price and massively better quality, one can only consider the two plates to be a failure. The service was the highlight, I wouldn't recommend the rest.

Copy of my Opentable review: A table for 10 people has been reserved for a business lunch. The restaurant reserves the right to charge a no-show fee of €30 per person (€300 total). So far so good and nothing unusual with Opentable. Of course, some of my colleagues only declined the invitation on the day of the reservation. And yes, I know how disappointed restaurateurs react when only half of larger groups come. But I assure you, the organizer who reserves this table on behalf of his employer is just as uncomfortable. The 5 participating colleagues planned to at least include the €300 fee as our minimum turnover before entering the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed in the restaurant. I would estimate the restaurant's occupancy to be around 75%. The fact that there were only five of us was only briefly discussed when taking the order and taking a table out of the table. The 5 of us had a wonderful evening and had an excellent meal at a table that was much too large. After 2 hours the bill was settled and our €300 goal had already been easily reached without a tip. On the way home we were still talking about the restaurant's qualities when the proverbial "kick in the neck" came. At the same time, a €150 no-show fee was deducted from the credit card. The chance that I will recommend this restaurant or visit it again is lost (for business/personal purposes). It's not the fact that the fee was charged that bothers me the most here. But rather the non-communication both when entering and leaving. No receipt or anything like that. was issued so that I, who suffered the damage (private), have no chance of submitting it to my employer. I hope with all my heart that the next group of 10 will be a group of sprightly pensioners (10x) who will block the table all evening with 3 bottles of still water and a small kale soup each! #MicDrop

Das Restaurant hält sich vor eine No-Show-Fee von 30€ pro Pax zu erheben (300€ Total). So weit so gut und nichts Ungewöhnliches bei Opentable. Natürlich sind einige meiner Kollegen erst am Tag der Reservierung von der Einladung abgesprungen. Und ja, ich weiß wie enttäuscht Gastronomen reagieren, wenn bei größeren Gruppen nur die Hälfte kommt. Aber ich versichere, dem Organisator, der im Auftrag seines Arbeitgebers diesen Tisch reserviert, ist es genauso unangenehm. Die teilnehmenden 5 Kollegen planten schon vor Betreten des Lokals zumindest die 300€ Fee als unser Mindestumsatz einzuplanen. Wir wurden freundlich im Restaurant in Empfang genommen. Die Auslastung des Restaurants würde ich auf ca. 75% schätzen. Die Tatsache, dass wir nur zu fünft waren, ist lediglich bei der Aufnahme der Bestellung und beim Herausnehmen eines Tisches aus der Tafel kurz thematisiert worden. Wir 5 hatten an einem wunderschönen Abend und haben an einem viel zu großen Tisch hervorragend gegessen. Nach 2h wurde abgerechnet, unser 300€-Ziel war bereits ohne Trinkgeld locker erreicht worden. Auf dem Heimweg unterhielt man sich noch über die Qualitäten des Restaurants als der sprichwörtliche "Schlag ins Genick" kam. Parallel sind 150€ No-Show-Fee von der Kreditkarte abgebucht worden. Die Chance, dass ich dieses Restaurant weiterempfehle oder erneut besuche, ist vertan (geschäftliche/privat). Nicht die Tatsache, dass die Gebühr erhoben wurde, stört mich hier am meisten. Sondern die Nicht-Kommunikation sowohl beim Betreten als auch Verlassen. Keine Quittung oÄ. wurde ausgestellt, sodass ich, dem der Schaden (Privat) entstanden ist, keine Chance habe sie ggf. bei meinem Arbeitgeber einzureichen. Ich wünsche euch von ganzem Herzen, dass die nächster 10er Gruppe eine Truppe rüstiger Rentner (10x) ist, die den ganzen Abend mit 3 Flaschen stillen Wasser und jeweils einer kleine Grünkohl-Suppe den Tisch blockiert! #MicDrop

A very nice restaurant with excellent food. Employees polite and courteous!

The food was very tasty. The atmosphere in the old building is also very Hanseatic and authentic - it makes you feel good. Unfortunately, my wife's dish with the goose leg didn't have enough gravy. We asked nicely if we could have a small helping of gravy. The waitress then said that this was only possible for an additional charge. We politely said no. Personally, I find this a bit small-minded... Still a great restaurant with very tasty food 👍

I was a bit disappointed with the place. It was a nice old inn and the starter (a soup) was really delicious. Main course and dessert not exactly my taste. We bought a wine menu for the meal, but we weren't told what we were drinking. Some quirky Christmas decorations and music in the restaurant.

Food rather average and overpriced, at least for our taste. Drinks too. Wheat beer from the bottle for €7.90 is already sporty.

Very good and tasty food. One star deducted because of the question: “Why does a 0.5 liter beer have to cost €7.50?” Too expensive in my opinion.

The only thing left to do with this restaurant is to give it full points. Extremely delicious food! A new sushi menu introduced since our last visit. My wife praised the sushi highly, and the two men's Wiener Schnitzels were excellent. Fun and tasty idea: cotton candy ice cream. Great ambience and very nice service! We'll definitely be back!

What a great, beautiful, little restaurant. The ambience is totally rustic and cozy, not so loud, not so artificially hip, the waitresses are absolutely friendly and personable, and most importantly: the food is really delicious. Really nice.

We discovered this restaurant by chance, were greeted very friendly and shown to the table. It was a nice quiet atmosphere. We chose the Viennese veal schnitzel and the roast beef and were not disappointed, it was very tasty and everything was freshly prepared. The service was very competent and friendly. A nice little family restaurant near the Speicherstadt. The restaurant is located in a very old half-timbered house. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food is freshly prepared and is of very high quality!!! Accordingly, you pay one euro more here. But a good meal should be worth it! There are even little things to freshen up in the toilets :-) Keep it up 👏🏻

Wunderbar gemütliche Atmosphäre in einem uralten Haus, dass seinen Charme nie verloren hat. Die Fusion aus gutbürgerlich und Sushi im alten Gebälk mutig bis erfrischend speziell! Bedienung war sehr herzlich und schnell. Das Essen war sehr lecker! Es könnten noch Kleinigkeiten optimiert werden: Zum Burata Salat beispielsweise hätte Salz und Brot ohne Nachfragen dazu gereicht werden können. Gerne wieder!

Everything was just right here! In a hidden area are these beautiful old half-timbered houses from the merchant Hanseatic era, which also bear witness to the charm of traditional Hamburg from the inside. The service was outstanding! We were looked after very friendly, politely and unobtrusively throughout the evening. I can only agree with the other good reviews about the food and drinks. There is something for everyone in the selection of dishes, without losing the focus on traditional cuisine. Fusion cuisine... ;) I can highly recommend the homemade lemonade! An evening just like I wanted. Repeat guaranteed!

Leider kann ich die Lokalität und das Essen nicht bewerten, den Service jedoch schon! Wir hatten zu siebt einen Tisch für den Samstagabend über OpenTable reserviert (muss man ja fast). Da unser Flug storniert wurde, habe ich umgehend vom Gate am Flughafen aus das Restaurant angerufen und mitgeteilt, dass unser Flug storniert wurde und wir somit am nächsten Abend leider die Reservation nicht antreten können. Man machte mich darauf aufmerksam, dass ich dies via OpenTable stornieren müsse. OpenTable ihrerseits schrieb, dass ich selbst das Restaurant kontaktieren müsse. Der nette Herr wollte dies abklären und sich wieder bei mir melden - was jedoch nicht geschah. Daraufhin hatte ich am anderen Morgen eine Mail ans Restaurant gesendet und alles nochmals geschildert und darum gebeten, dass mir die Stornierung bestätigt wird und somit keine NoShow-Gebühr anfällt. Danach hat mir der Geschäftsführer selbst geschrieben, dass sich da leider nichts machen liesse und mir somit umgehend 30Euro/Person auf meiner Kreditkarte belastet werden - dies sind dann mal 210Euro!!! Geschrieben und getan! Die Begründung war, dass wir spätestens 24 Stunden vorher hätten stornieren müssen und bei uns waren es dann nur knappe 22 Stunden vorher... Zudem hätte ich ja die Bestimmungen gekannt und dies sei heute so Usus, wie auch bei den Hotels. Ich bat ihn nochmals das Ganze zu überdenken, da wir uns ja umgehend gemeldet hatten und nicht einfach nicht erschienen sind und für unseren Familienurlaub 210 Euro sehr viel Geld sei... Er hatte nicht mal mehr den Anstand auf meine eMail zu antworten... Wo bleibt hier noch der gesunde Menschenverstand und etwas Kulanz??? Nach dieser Erfahrung werden wir sicherlich nie mehr beim Restaurant Schoppenhauer essen gehen und auch keine Reservationen mehr über OpenTable tätigen!

Excellent welcome and superb, hearty dishes for this establishment as typical as it is friendly, very close to the miniature museum. Exquisite cuisine, first choice raw materials and very careful presentation: a good address that we had spotted with its Google rating which we fully confirm 😋

Devo innanzitutto dire che forse ho caricato di aspettative eccessive questo ristorante. Del resto un ristorante in attività dal 1633 non può che accendere la curiosità. Il locale in effetti è suggestivo e molto bello. Potete però immaginare il disappunto quando ho visto che le prime pagine del menu erano occupate da Sushi. La restante parte del menù proponeva i soliti triti e ritriti piatti “Tedeschi” (pare che la Wiener schnitzel debba ritenersi tale visto che è immancabile nei menù Tedeschi) agli oltraggiosi prezzi di Amburgo. Servizio buono, i camerieri sono stati molto gentili. Il rapporto qualità/prezzo direi scarso come capita spesso in città ed a questo punto non so se farne una colpa al ristorante. Difficilmente ci tornerò

For starters we had a tuna tartare & edamame. These were really delicious. Afterwards we had the surprise sushi menu. It was a great selection and nicely presented. Unfortunately the quality was only medium. But we also have very high standards for sushi. The service was extremely friendly and charming. We waited a little longer for someone to come out to pay. But there were only two of the service staff. So we didn't think it was too bad. Would come again, also because the ambience was really beautiful. However, we would probably order something different as the main course. (PS: the ladies had a selection of 9 different deodorants in the toilet. Somehow I found this particularly welcoming).

We sat outside, it was pleasantly quiet in the area. The service was great. The bread with the salad cost €4 extra. The chicken with the salad from a ready-made package, I suspect. The fried potatoes were not crispy. The prices are clearly too high for this quality. You have to pay €30 per person when making a reservation and if you cancel.

Disappointment! Unfortunately, rump steak was too dry and tough. The side dishes (fried potatoes) were rather cold.

Great service, very child-friendly, the food was delicious. The variety and selection are really impressive. For me the price-performance ratio is absolutely right as everything is of very high quality. I would love to come back and can absolutely recommend it!

We had a lovely evening in this restaurant! The service was very pleasant, not too intrusive and individual requests were taken into account. It's definitely on the pricier side and you'll need to bring some money with you, but the food is really good and recommended. We chose this place as we looked at the menu online. There where many vegetarian options including an interesting lasagna with cabbage. Desserts looked great including a multilayer cheesecake, pancake with berries and ice cream, a chocolate cake with soft insides with ice cream, and a cheeseboard. Once we got there, none of these were available or on their menu. In fact, the waiter never heard of them. Luckily, we do eat fish when there are not any vegetarian items so the wife and I ordered different fish selections. Mine was pretty good being fillet of herring with roasted potatoes. The wife's fish was way past super salty. She ate it, but if it were mine, I would have sent it back. Also, we told the waiter we were vegetarians. I do believe they still served the potatoes cooked in pork or bacon. Who does that? I do want to say the ceaser salad I had was very good. Desserts were nothing like on the website, but we got something pretty good (can't recall the name they had for it), but it was one serving for 14€. The wine was excellent but cost us 50€.

First of all: you can already see that the food here is a little more expensive. That's why I can't quite understand how you can rate the service and food as "great" and then rate the price-performance ratio negatively... The food is really good and I'm happy to pay more for it, the service is very nice and friendly. We sat directly outside at the entrance on the side, quite carelessly decorated and some of the tablecloths were still dirty from the previous person. Small note: your cutlery doesn't quite match the rest, so you should make improvements. Otherwise really good!!!

The kitchen smells so strong of stale grease and three-day-old food that I don't dare go in. Worse than a McDonalds. It's a shame, the house otherwise looks very nice.

We took part in the New Year's Eve menu on December 31st, 2023. The price-performance ratio was great (especially when you look at other restaurants in Hamburg). I would particularly like to mention the attentive and very friendly waiters. Great ambience, super delicious food and too service team. Gladly again ☺️

The atmosphere is really quaint. The food was delicious and very attractively prepared. However, the portions were not enough for hungry people and therefore the price-performance ratio was not appropriate. Therefore only 3 stars. The staff is very nice and always available to say something.

Our dishes were delicious, but the price was completely exorbitant. The prices are completely over the top, and when it comes to the drinks I have to say, even outrageous. Eating out is no longer fun.

The restaurant is a bit hidden, we probably wouldn't have discovered it without Instagram. The atmosphere is simple, the staff is very nice and attentive. The food is simply great, and many fancy restaurants can take a page from it. If you haven't been there yet, you've missed something! We will recommend it and would be happy to come back!

Ja was sollen wir sagen? Erst einmal zum Ambiente! Terrasse gebucht, sah gemütlich aus, doch Außenbereich zu kühl! Wacklige Terrassentische, wo man sich unterklemmen musste, nun ja nahm man hin. Der Service war nett, Bestellung war zügig, Getränke wirkten überteuert wie Weinkarte 0,2l ab 12 €. Wir nahmen Sushi als Vorspeise, die sowohl Qualitativ als auch optisch sehr gut waren! Erwartungen waren nun zum Hautgang hoch! Doch die Ernüchterung folgte zum Hauptgang, ein Hamburger Pfannfisch, ein traditionelles Gericht, Röstkartoffeln, der Koch sollte solche „einfachen“ Sachen mal vorher probieren, verbrannt, zu fett, trotzdem zu weiche Konsistenz, sicherlich von fertig geschälten Kartoffeln zubereitet. Gemüse frisch, aber Karotten, die geschmacklich sehr gut waren , zu hart! Doch dann folgte die total herbe Enttäuschung, Fisch und Sauce, kein frischer Fisch, keine Sauce die dass Gericht umspielte, nehmt sowas von der Karte in solcher Qualität, es ist eine Beleidigung! Tortellinis mit Steinpilzen, wollen wir gar nicht bewerten, probiert, aber das war es dann! Fast unverschämt ! Es gibt nichts dazu zu sagen, es war mein schlechtes Geburtstagsessen in meinem Leben und dies mit 66 Jahren! Wir w

Oh, too bad... It's a really cute place that's very inviting from the outside. Unfortunately, as soon as you don't order a full-length menu, the waiter seems to have clearly little interest in you. In addition, words like “Little Treasures” are used in billing and you are portrayed as stupid (nothing against the Hamburg language style). But, why not? Maybe image maintenance. The “problem” is the prices. You can make an entrée for 16 euros, but then it has to be really tight. You can also do a children's meal with schnitzel and fries ketchup/mayo for 21 euros: But that also has to be really mega. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case in both cases. The Dom Pérignon bottles at the entrance don't hide this. All the best anyway.

There were 8 of us and everyone enjoyed the food very much 😋. Even though the restaurant was completely full, the staff was very friendly and moved quickly. We were completely satisfied and can only recommend the restaurant. A visit to Schopenhauer is worth it when you are in Hamburg. 👍

Tolles Restaurant, tolles Ambiente und super nettes Personal. Kinder sind hier auch herzlich willkommen. Das Essen war vom allerfeinsten und auch die Preise bewegen sich beim Essen für die derzeitigen Verhältnisse auf einem gerechtfertigten Niveau. Leider muss ich einen Stern abziehen da ich mich sehr schwer tue für eine Flasche Wasser 9,00 Euro zu bezahlen. Hier fehlt mir dann doch das Verhältnis zum Preis von einer Kiste Wasser welche beim Einkauf nicht teurer ist. Wasser sollte für mich einfach Wasser bleiben, auch beim Preis. Aber trotzdem war es ein toller Abend und das Essen inklusive Ambiente und Personal haben das teure Wasser entschädigt.

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant mit urigem Ambiente in ruhiger Atmosphäre. Etwas versteckt, aber im Internet als Geheimtipp gefunden. Wir wurden nicht enttäuscht, hier passte alles. Wir wurden sehr herzlich begrüßt und das Essen war super. Die Speisen haben eine Top Qualität und sind jeden Euro wert. Wer authentisch in Hamburg essen gehen möchte kommt am Restaurant Schoppenhauer nicht vorbei. Bei nächsten Besuch in Hamburg ist das Restaurant auf jeden Fall wieder mit eingeplant.

Leckeres Essen ohne Schnickschnack ...allerdings könnte das Messer schärfer sein . Dann läßt sich das zarte Fleisch noch besser schneiden...auch drei andere am Tisch waren der Meinung....tolle fachwerk-innenraum Optik...kann ich nur weiterempfehlen

Der erste Eindruck war großartig, da das Ambiente super gemütlich ist. Dann aber kam die warmgemachte Ente, die für 32,- Euro nicht das versprach, was erhofft wurde. Sie lag wohl schon eine geraume Zeit zum Aufwärmen im Ofen. War aber nur lauwarm, trocken und es gab auch keine Kruste. Hatte mich schon gewundert, da es sehr schnell ging. Genießen hätten wir ohnehin nicht können, da die Tische auf Zeit vergeben wurden. Schade.

Typisch Gutbürgerliches essen, auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Vorher reservieren!

Crowded nice resturant with German cuisine with a great twist as they offer sushi and that was what we had and was to my suprise excellent , big, nicely presented and tasty for two persons at 89 euro. Good wine along and friendly service overall. Great evening.

Auch wenn alles im großen und ganzen gut war, die Preis-Leistung stimmt hier nicht, dies ist schließlich kein Sternerestaurant.

Ein sehr nettes Restaurant. Das Essen war hervorragend. Wir hatten unterschiedliche Gerichte; alle sahen sehr ansprechend aus. Jeder am Tisch war zufrieden und hat sich wohl gefühlt.

Hatte das 4 Gänge Menü incl. Suschi, alles unheimlich lecker 😍 10 von 5 Sterne
