We found it through the discount booklet; the schnitzel was great, but the meat on the Balkan platter could have been cooked a bit more. The vaulted cellar is a lovely location; it must be wonderful in the summer when you can sit outside.

The food was okay, the service a bit slow. The atmosphere is alright, fine for a get-together with friends, but we wouldn't come back on our own as the food wasn't impressive.

So, the food was alright. But what's completely unacceptable: when we wanted to pay, the waiter said that the card reader was broken "today" and we could only pay in cash. That already sounded suspicious... when I then asked for the bill, they rudely put an "interim bill" on the table... these kinds of things can be deleted from the register afterward; they never appear in the books. So, it all looks pretty shady, especially regarding tax evasion. And that really bothers me; other restaurant owners are playing fair and have to make ends meet. I've forwarded the receipt to the tax office... and I'm guessing that if someone from the restaurant reads this, the card reader, lo and behold, won't break down again...

We used the Schlemmerblock discount booklet and didn't experience any drawbacks; on the contrary, the schnitzel and cordon bleu were very generous portions with plenty of fries and a delicious side salad. We were also served a complimentary amuse-bouche. The restaurant's decor is lovely and cozy, and the building's historical character is still very much present. The service was very attentive, but at times a bit arrogant and rude. When I asked about the delicious rosé and which winery it came from, I only received the curt reply, "Ours." Upon further inquiry, I was then told it was from Croatia. Overall, though, many things were great. I think the outdoor seating area in the summer is also wonderful, with its beautiful view of Mainz.

A very nice atmosphere with vaulted ceilings. The waiter was very friendly. There were three different dips with bread, a complimentary appetizer. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the food. The side dishes, salad, and fries were tasty, but the pljeskavica was inedible: the minced meat was too firm, over-seasoned, and the filling (feta cheese) was missing; it was later served on a separate plate. The djuvec rice, although placed under the meat, was cold and could have used a little more time to cook. In short, my dinner consisted of a side salad, fries, and three slices of feta cheese. My husband's mixed grill was, according to them, okay. Friends of ours like to go there, but it won't be our regular restaurant.

Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the food very much. We each ordered a salad with extras, which tasted awful and had to be left untouched. Furthermore, the service wasn't very friendly; they didn't listen properly and brought us the wrong drinks. We wouldn't come back here again.

We ate there last night as a group of three. The location is beautiful. The service was friendly but completely overwhelmed and disorganized. The first three dishes served to us in succession weren't even for us and were cleared away. Even our meals were served separately, making it impossible to eat together. The stuffed hamburger was inedible; it was a compressed, machine-prepared mince that was difficult to cut with a knife. The taste was awful, the feta cheese was watery and neither visible nor palatable, so it went straight back. The other two dishes weren't much better. The flavors were very bland, and the pork neck skewer was extremely gristly. Our comment that the food was not good was ignored. Then a large dessert arrived, which we thought was an apology, but it was unfortunately cleared away again; it had been ordered by the next table. We won't be coming back; we haven't had such a bad meal in a long time.

Unfortunately, the schnitzel wasn't what we expected. The fries were oversalted. The schnitzel was pounded twice and also oversalted. The salad dressing was tasteless.

Beautiful restaurant on the Maaraue. The value for money is still good here! Quaintly furnished in an old vaulted ceiling, with a lovely winter garden overlooking the Rhine. A great selection of dishes and always friendly service. We like to drop in spontaneously on Sundays, as it's open all day. No need to make a reservation during off-peak times.

Great atmosphere, we sat inside. We had Balkan plates and cevapcici. There was a special from the kitchen (bread with three sauces) and an appetizer salad. We had the gourmet block and were extremely satisfied. Kudos to the waiter, Florin, for his courteous and friendly manner. At the end of our meal, we were treated to a schnapps/liqueur on the house. We will be back.

You can eat normally here, but it's far too loud to have a conversation with your neighbors. It's not suitable for a quiet evening.

⸻ I celebrated my birthday here in October and was really disappointed. When I went to cut the cake, I was told I had to pay €1.50 each for the plates, even though our bill was almost €200. We ordered tarte flambée and fries, but they didn't bring us plates even for those, so we had to eat everything without plates. Unfortunately, the staff were very unfriendly, and the food arrived much too late. I was really sad because it was my birthday. I definitely won't be coming back because the service was very poor.

We went to this restaurant tonight for a friend's birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. First, the waiter simply threw the coasters on the table in front of the guests, which was extremely rude and disrespectful. Then he spilled two drinks he was holding all over the hosts without even apologizing. The service was also extremely slow; we had to wait a very long time for everything. When we finally asked for small plates for the birthday cake, we were rudely told that we had to pay extra for each plate. Overall, it felt like the staff couldn't care less whether the guests were having a good time or not. It's a real shame. I can't recommend this restaurant at all.

Great ambience, great service and delicious food

I've been going there regularly for a long time, and it's best reached on foot or by bike. It's a bit of a hassle by car, but it's beautifully located, the food is excellent, and the service is very friendly and attentive! There's a beautiful view of Mainz from the nearby Rhine bank.

The service leaves a lot to be desired. We waited over 30 minutes to be served and another 30 minutes for the food to arrive. We witnessed guests leaving the restaurant because of the wait. The food was poorly prepared. The pasta was very tasteless, and my minced steak was undercooked in the middle. The outdoor terrace has potential, but the umbrellas are very run-down, which spoils the atmosphere. Overall, I wouldn't come back or recommend it.

Very nice place with a garden, but unqualified staff in the service and kitchen. There were four of us, two of us got our food, and two had to wait 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and the beef fillet was very dry. I hope things improve considerably.

Even without a reservation, we were able to get a seat in the beer garden. The seating is very pleasant under the old trees, with partial views of the Rhine. Despite the heat, the atmosphere beneath the mature trees was very pleasant. The staff was extremely busy, yet always friendly and accommodating – something you don't find everywhere. The food was more than adequate, and the chef's special was very tasty.

We've been there several times, and on this day we were with Schlemmer Block. Everything was really good, surprisingly quiet for the time of day. Good value for money, but a regular 0.2-liter glass of wine for €7.90 is quite expensive.

A beautiful beer garden surrounded by greenery. Unfortunately, a few things went wrong on our last visit. We ended up having to wait almost two hours for our food, despite repeatedly asking the seemingly overwhelmed waiter. It turned out that our order hadn't been taken by the kitchen. Then things moved quickly, and a drink was on the house. The food is good, with German and Balkan dishes.

We would have liked to have eaten the food hot, but unfortunately it was only lukewarm.

Reserved a table online, but no one was interested. Ordered at 1 p.m., food arrived at 2:15 p.m. (the restaurant was busy). The staff apologized several times, but the neighboring tables were similarly chaotic (the chef's fault). One free drink was on the house. Unfortunately, the food was once again tasteless (Pola Pola and summer salad with chanterelles). The cleanliness of the outdoor area leaves a lot to be desired! Tables aren't wiped down, leaves are scattered everywhere. It's a shame they could improve it.

Great location, friendly staff, and excellent food at reasonable prices. Parking right next to the restaurant. We had the Balkan platter with a small salad. There were seven of us, and it was under €200. Completely wheelchair accessible. We'd be happy to go again.

There are better Croatian restaurants out there; there's still room for improvement. The greeting from the kitchen is meant kindly, but two people get the same amount as four. We had three small bread cubes for four people. There were enough staff present, and they were all very nice, but the work was totally unplanned.

We ate here for the first time, but not the last, thanks to Schlemmerblock. Very friendly service, the food was delicious. I had a grilled platter. Unfortunately, I only noticed afterward that it lacked feta cheese, but even without it, the portions were plentiful and served quickly. The seating in the garden is very pleasant. We didn't go inside, so we can't comment on that. We would recommend the restaurant. The only small downside: the homemade lemonade, while tasty, was very overpriced at €7.50.

I've been there twice in 5 days and the food was an 11/10. I can recommend the chicken breast stuffed with cheese and bacon to everyone. Huge portion and incredibly delicious.

It's unbelievable how long you have to wait there. I arrived at 3 p.m. and waited until 3:30 to place my order, and I didn't get to eat until 4 p.m.

A very nice location, close to the Rhine with plenty of nature, perfect for a summer evening. The service was friendly and relatively prompt, although the wrong drink was initially brought. The "Rheinschanze" salad plate appetizer was the first disappointment, as the shrimp turned out to be 6-7 crabs in a small bowl of oil. The second disappointment was the grilled meat: The meat was overcooked, very dark in places, and invariably too dry, and the fries were chewy and cold. A real shame for the money; I had expected better...

Cozy evening in the vaulted cellar :-) Update: price/performance excessive. Small water €4, Aperol Spritz €9.50 and the wine spritzer costs €6.

We were invited here to a communion celebration. There were several platters for starters and main courses. The food was incredibly delicious, and the service was always prompt and responsive to any requests. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We ate there on Whitsun Sunday. Right at the start, we were informed that the Schlemmerblock (sweet treat) wasn't accepted that day – even though it wasn't a public holiday. When we asked why, the answer was, "The manager made that decision." The menu isn't bad overall, but unfortunately, it's unsuitable for vegetarians. The food is okay, the portions are large, and if you can sit in the conservatory or outside, you have a very nice view. The staff was attentive.

The food was very good. The service was very friendly and prompt, despite the large number of guests.

The restaurant is idyllically located on the Rhine. The menu is extensive and the food is delicious. The only downside: we had to wait a long time for service, then another 1.5 hours for our food, and even during this time, we often missed the service.

I would give zero stars if I could – one star is the lowest it allows. I witnessed shocking racist behavior from both the owner and staff toward my friend and his family, including their children. They were treated with disrespect, ignored, and spoken to in a rude, dismissive manner, while other guests were served kindly and attentively. Racism—especially toward families and children—is disgusting and unacceptable. We will never return, and I strongly advise others to stay away.

Absolutely disgusting staff and a horrible boss. This is the most racist place I've ever experienced. Yesterday, my wife and two of her friends were there with a three-year-old child. They ordered a small snack for the child and asked if the child could use the restroom. The lady was very aggressive towards them and refused to allow the child access to the restroom. Later, she even called her boss, and he was even worse. Together, they kicked my wife and her friends out of the place—just because they had asked for a toddler to use the restroom.

We were there with 5 people. Everyone was more or less dissatisfied. In addition, the prices are completely excessive compared to the performance. The location is nice and it's ok for a beer too.

Unfortunately my rating is negative. We had made a reservation for 3 p.m., but after our arrival we stood unnoticed in the entrance area for a while - no one greeted us or gave us a seat. The menus weren't brought to us either, we had to get them ourselves. It was only after about 45 minutes that our order was finally taken. After over an hour the food still wasn't there. Since we were there with small children, the long wait was particularly tiring. When we asked after about 45 minutes, the waiter assured us that the food was being served. But half an hour later nothing had been served. When I asked again, the waiter reacted rudely and not very understandingly. It was particularly disappointing that other guests who had arrived well after us received their food much earlier. Overall a very frustrating and disappointing experience.

The restaurant was recommended by friends. It is in an idyllic location on the Rhine. The menu is extensive and the food is very tasty. The only downer - we waited 1.5 hours for our food. Service only came to the table three times during the entire time. If you want to visit this restaurant, make sure you don't come at a busy lunch or evening time.

Everything was great, until my husband asked the waitress if they had any heat for the food and she said "would you like an animal, with the emphasis "mea"". I wanted to have a cocktail, but the waitress told me the bartender has too much to do, he can't do it, the guest is king, that's how I know it. Since I come from the industry.

We went to this restaurant and reserved a table in advance. Unfortunately, we only discovered on site that a special Valentine's Day menu was being served that evening, which was significantly more expensive than the regular menu. There was no information about this on the reservation page - you could only have read it under "News / Events", but that wasn't obvious. That was annoying because we were prepared for the usual selection and the "gourmet block" and had no option to order anything else. Despite the unexpectedly high price, the food was good and of high quality. However, there is still a bad aftertaste because we would have liked clearer communication in advance. A note directly when making the reservation or an email with this information would have been helpful. Conclusion: Good food, but there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to transparency at special events. In addition, the food was far too little in relation to the price.

We spontaneously went to the Rheinschanze on a sunny Sunday. We got a place even though we didn't reserve. The food was very tasty and the portion was sufficient. Price performance is definitely given. We'll be back

Beautiful, cozy atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff, who are also happy to fulfill personal requests. The dishes are extremely tasty and varied. The restaurant is very child-friendly, and the service is particularly nice for Donald's friends under 6 years old. Overall, a good recommendation for a successful visit as a couple or with the family.

I think it's very good there. The vaulted cellar interior looked extremely cozy. We were placed in the winter garden. And with the frosty temperatures outside, unfortunately it didn't get really warm. The food was good and plentiful (except for the fries). Unfortunately, the fries were almost raw inside.

The service was really not recommended. We weren't greeted, had the cutlery wrapped in paper thrown away and a lot of things were no longer available to order from the menu on a Sunday lunchtime. Today we had dinner at the Rheinschanze. The food was very tasty except for the tarte flambée. Tarte flambée inedible and dry. A more Mediterranean tarte flambée was ordered, which I understand to mean something different (see picture). The Rheinschanze is a beautiful restaurant, but we sat in the winter garden which was fine. The table could have been wiped down again beforehand. Drinks and food were simply handed to us and passed on. The waiter didn't seem to really want to do his job either. When the plates were cleared away, he had the plates handed to him at the end of the table again. We were only asked by a waitress whether the food was tasty. Cashing in was also very lackluster. In general, this visit was very disappointing in terms of service. The food was delicious and we will definitely come back.

Last night our son invited us to dinner. He wanted to do something good for us. Unfortunately it was a Rhine Falls, the service consisted of one person who was completely overwhelmed. Came to the table several times but didn't have the pad or pen with me, the greeting from the kitchen is apparently only for certain guests! My salad, which was served shortly before the main course, looked to me as if some leftovers had been quickly scraped together in the kitchen. The fries were still half raw, and during the meal an assistant from the service reached out to my daughter-in-law about the food without asking clear empty salad plate. Unfortunately it was a disappointing restaurant visit.

I've been to the Rheinschanze several times to eat, mostly grilled plates or grilled platters. But every time there were different variants of the menu or they were seasoned differently, under-seasoned or over-seasoned. On November 14th, 2024 I went to dinner with several people. We had 2 grill plates and 2 grill plates, all of them were missing the minced steak, but there were 2 extra cevapcici. Only the waiter didn't inform us about it. When asked, the waiter stated that the minced steaks still needed to be made. The white wine was at room temperature, when complaining the waiter stated that it had only recently been delivered. Why doesn't he provide the information when ordering?

The three of us had dinner here and had a grill plate, cevapcici and pljeskavica (stuffed with feta). We enjoyed all three dishes excellently and had a very good price-performance ratio. Only the holey tablecloth with old stains spoiled the first impression a bit. Luckily the kitchen made up for it with the good food. The ambience is inviting and cozy, with the flair of a vaulted cellar. Overall, highly recommended!

Cozy restaurant, friendly, quick service. Price/performance okay. Nice gesture, the greeting from the kitchen, which would have been even better with crunchy bread. Plesjescavika meat was good, but unfortunately a bit too dry and filled with very little sheep's cheese.

We were there before in 2018 and were dissatisfied with the food. Today, 6 years later, we wanted to give the Rheinschanze another chance. We were there on a Saturday evening, the dining room was well filled but there was only one employee at the counter responsible for drinks and one waitress for all the guests. The service staff had more than enough to do but tried very hard, but couldn't do justice to all the tables on their own. Because of this, we waited a really long time until we could order the drinks and food. Unfortunately, the starters were all cold (fried Mediterranean vegetables). The Balkan plates were also cold and as a result the meat was dry and sometimes tough. We also ordered a Mediterranean tarte flambée, which was the biggest disappointment. The tarte flambée did not consist of tarte flambée dough, but the base was simply a warmed up tortilla wrap, the vegetables were much too large and cut too thickly, completely inappropriate for what was actually a thin tarte flambée, and there was hardly any crème fraîche on it and therefore dry. Ultimately, despite the wonderful ambience in the vault and on the Rhine, unfortunately another RHINE fall.

In itself, the Schlemmerblock is a nice thing: you can try one or the other restaurant at a discount (you only pay for the cheaper of 2 meals) and have found a new, great restaurant - or not. The latter happened to us today in the Rheinschanze. In this respect, the gourmet block served its purpose here too. The Rheinschanze is beautifully located on the Rhine, has plenty of parking spaces and the interior (vault) is great to look at. It is a specialty restaurant with Balkan cuisine in the foreground. The winter garden wasn't that great to look at, but we still took a seat here because of the view of the Rhine and Mainz. It was a little chilly, but otherwise fine. Initially there were 2 other parties present, later 6 or 7 parties. This shouldn't be a problem for initially 2, later 3 waiters. However, the service was subpar. The drinks (beer and a KiBa) were brought to the table very quickly, although the Kiba was “moussing”, either it had been mixed with mineral water or one of the juices was “not quite fresh” (vulgo: spoiled). The replacement drink was fine. Unfortunately, the appetizer we wanted (marinated shrimp) was out; my son didn't want any appetizer anyway. So we went straight to the main courses, which were actually available: grilled plates and tarte flambée with chicken. The waiting time until the main course was served was quite long, but just OK, even as a small “greeting from the kitchen” (bread with 3 dips) was served. (which was brought out a few minutes before the main course, we weren't finished with it yet) The tarte flambée was very tasty (!), even if the type of cheese could not be clarified. (Waiter after consultation: Cheese! Yes, but which one: Uh. Cheese. Waiter2: So Emmentaler. We: Oh yes. Waiter 2: Well, the one that comes on the pizza. The whole thing is pretty Kafkaesque!). The grill plate was fine. Not that you'd lick your mouth afterwards, but just okay. Otherwise the waiters: Pretty overwhelmed, despite fewer guests. No one asked if another drink was wanted. If you spoke to the waiter and he had two plates in his hand, you would say “Wait a minute,” but by the time he got to the kitchen, he had forgotten about it. It was all quite difficult... It was already noticed here that one of four starters was out. The desserts looked even worse: no pancakes and no cake. Then the dessert is canceled too. This saves not only money but also calories. In total, we consumed 2 main courses and 3 drinks with 2 people. The bill then only showed 31.50 euros (thanks to Schlemmerblock). It could have been a lot more because we had something to celebrate. But as we all know, the best always comes last: the bill! In this case, the handwritten list and summation of individual prices really irritated me. I asked for a correct invoice. Then it came – again handwritten. My insistence on a standard printed invoice was countered with: The cash register crashed. It's not possible right now. Card terminal is also defective. What a coincidence! I didn't want a fight so I paid in cash and refused a tip. The waiter didn't seem to like that very much, he actually miscalculated the change by 10 euros, unfortunately not in my favor. Everyone can be wrong, but I had my doubts here. My recommendation: give the Rheinschanze a wide berth!

We were there with six people and unfortunately the food was very bad. Meatballs with cheese filling were completely raw, didn't eat properly warm, extra orders were forgotten. Cevapcici were dry and much too firm. It was said that there was a new chef, things used to be different. Very unfortunate.

Wir haben das Restaurant durch Zufall entdeckt und spontan besucht. Sehr schön auf der Maarau gelegen. Eine schöne breit gefächerte Speisekarte. Wir hatten einen Grillteller und Pola Pola. beide Gerichte waren schön auf dem Teller angerichtet und sehr wohlschmeckend. Ein stimmiges Preis- Leistungsverhältnis. Wir werden wiederkommen und können das Restaurant empfehlen, allerdings sollte man vorher anfragen bzw reservieren.

Die Location ist sehr schön, ein empfehlenswerter Ausflugsort. Das Essen war gut zubereitet, das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist stimmig. Danke für den schönen Abend.
