Restaurant Neumann's in Berlin

I'm torn – I love Neumanns and some of the food is truly fantastic (except for those disastrous Käsespätzle; for heaven's sake, leave out the cream and put the cheese inside the Spätzle, not just on top!!). But when I tried to find out about the seasonal menu today, I was seriously brushed off (after being passed around and having to repeat myself four times). That's no way to treat customers!

I recently tried the Berliner Bouletten, and they completely exceeded my expectations. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and full of rich, comforting flavor — just the way traditional German meat patties should be. The texture was spot-on: crispy on the outside and tender inside, with a hint of onion and herbs that made every bite delicious.

Would have give 0 stars but that not possible! Indian gentleman who served us was very kind but the food wasn’t cooked. Ordered schweinhaxe and the inner part was still frozen. Totally unacceptable! Salat was stale and potatoe mash and sauerkraut was minimal. Was offered a beef as replacement but it was overcooked and not tender at all. Payed for our beers and left the place and went elsewhere

If I hadn't had to give the food any stars, I would have given it zero. The food was very bad. The chef clearly invoked Article 12 of the German Basic Law's freedom of occupation. I'm very sorry to use that wording, but most of the food was inedible. The restaurant itself was very nice and the staff were friendly. I won't be eating there again.

I visited this restaurant today. Had Gemuse Gratin and Schnitzel Jager Art. Had drinks too. Very Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Food was awesome. Must visit.

I tried pfeffer steak here. I had it first time and it was very delicious. It was served with pommes and pfeffer sauce. Service was quick and staff was also very friendly. Must visit.

Today I already had knuckle of pork, which was very tasty. Every time I go to Berlin, I usually visit Neumann's Restaurant.

We went here for dinner on a tour. They said they had Berlin's famous currywurst, but what came out wasn't crispy, and it was served with a curry sauce instead of ketchup, which was different from the ones served at street stalls. The sausage itself wasn't tasty either. I think this restaurant has a different specialty. Many of the tour participants left their food uneaten, and the waiter sighed when he saw this. It was a bad choice by the travel agency, and I feel sorry for the customers and the restaurant.

Tranquil atmosphere, excellent German cuisine. Well-prepared dishes, served at the perfect temperature. A great option.

Great place the food was amazing

The food was fantastic. Large portions, very well-seasoned, with crisp salad and great dressing. Everything was fresh. The service was very attentive and friendly. Everything was clean. Only the music didn't fit in with the rest of the menu.

The staff tried very hard, despite the communication challenges. We managed with English. Unfortunately, the food wasn't good. The meat was undercooked, and the pepper sauce had too much thickener. You go home with an older person feeling a bit strange. So many things just didn't add up.

A very strange place, but we didn't even realize two hours had passed since we entered. It has its own unique atmosphere. The bar is clean. The waiter is polishing glasses. A bit of a drama behind the bar. Stained napkins, tons of dust on the wall decorations. The place needs a complete renovation... It has a strange appeal.

Directly next to a huge street, very noisy & food quality isn’t great at all

Unfortunately, the overall impression wasn't right for us. The restaurant itself is very nice and quaint, but the music is loud and inappropriate. It wasn't busy, but you still had to be patient with the service. The food, unfortunately, didn't impress us. It looked good, but tasted rather bland. We just wanted to try it out, but probably won't be coming back.

We discovered the restaurant quite by chance. We sat outside. The service was friendly, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The wait time was reasonable and acceptable. The value for money was good.

I had a filet platter with turkey, pork, and beef fillets, fried potatoes, a fried egg, and some salad. I enjoyed the meal, and at €17.50, it was good value for money. We were seated outside, and I excused the dirty floor by saying it was outside. The waiter only wiped the table at my request, which clearly bore traces of the previous occupant. The waiter was very friendly, though. I would recommend paying more attention to cleanliness. These are small things that can be quickly resolved, but it would make a big difference to the overall impression.

Anyone expecting good food and great service is in the wrong place: the food is rather mediocre, the service poor, and communication and answering questions very poor, neither in German nor English. Hygiene in the outdoor area is inadequate.

We wanted to have breakfast today. An unmotivated waiter seated us at a table where the cups were very dirty. The buffet wasn't set up at 10:10, but where it was supposed to be set up was just plain dirty. There were yesterday's leftovers everywhere. We left.

It was okay, no less, but no more. Unfortunately, the starter soup and main course came together. The chicken fillet was okay, the beef was questionable and overcooked. The sauce was tasty, but unfortunately, it was all over the plate, even on the side salad. The service was very reserved; you had to clearly call for attention. All in all, more of a pub than a restaurant, and more of a meal than a treat.

Wunderbar As a visitor to the capital, came across this Great neighbourhood German restaurant. Looks and feels authentic. Food was fabulous. Schnitzel was 4/5, 3 meat medallions 4/5 Apple strudel 4/5 Great service. Restaurant was a little quieter on the Sunday. Will be back. Keep it up Neumann

Bad experience. When I came, there was only one waiter who was also at the bar, so the service was very long. They served my beer, and by the time it arrived, the dish was already hot. The food itself was disappointing and expensive. The pork knuckle was overcooked. The sauce wasn't from this dish; it was a generic sauce that didn't match the dish at all. The mashed potatoes were actually very good, mixed with cheese. I'd never tried them like that before, but the amount was ridiculously small. Also, the terrace was full of flies that would eat your food. From my point of view, not at all recommendable.

I haven't seen such run-down and lousy food in a long time. The pepper steak tasted like vinegar or something. The staff doesn't match the restaurant's name, which wouldn't be a problem if the food were good. Never, never again.

We didn't understand what the food was like because we left because of the rude attitude... We went at 8:30 PM...they told us they were closing at 10:00 PM..after a while they informed us that they were closing at 9:30 PM and finally they told us that they were opening for half an hour... Complete amateurs who lost serious and regular customers...they are empty...

Be careful, the restaurant is having less-than-perfect reviews deleted from Google. We gave it three stars and wrote that we were largely ignored by the staff. The owner called this "defamation" and had the review deleted.

I went there as part of a tour. I didn't realise it was an Indian restaurant until I looked at the map. The food was average. The meat was seasoned very similar to what I had eaten in Egypt. The staff were very friendly.

German home cooking in a lovely old pub.

Sourabh was a wonderful host. We enjoyed the enormous meals and wonderful local beer. The decor was lovely and the restaurant was very close to the central station and hotels.

Wir waren eine größere Gruppe,die letzten vekamen ihr Essen machdem die ersten schon ferig waren. Das Essen an sich war lauwarm bis kalt die Servicekräfte rufen durch dss halbe Lokal. Für mein empfinden nicht angenehm.

Absolutely not. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. The first potatoes out of the jar were lukewarm and edible. Got new ones, sat in water for hours, inedible. Turkey steak - dried meat - not chewable. Asparagus was ok. Radler tasted stale. Toilet - disaster. Apparently high-ranking politicians hang out here...

We were in the restaurant with a group. Very tasty food, everything was freshly prepared with fresh products. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Personally, I can only highly recommend this restaurant. For everyone who is ever in Berlin.

I definitely can't recommend the Sunday brunch! The tables weren't clean, the brunch was just breakfast, the scrambled eggs were too salty, the rolls were the simplest baked rolls and the sausage and cheese at the buffet were already dried on the edges. The staff initially didn't understand the question about milk for coffee. I should pour myself milk from the large carafe at the buffet. A little later, jugs arrived on the table, but they (like the thermos flasks) were completely stained. Overall very unappetizing and the service was poor. I don't even want to talk about the toilets! It's a shame...the ambience is generally nice, but the implementation is unsustainable. I will definitely not visit the restaurant again.

We were in the restaurant as part of an invitation from a member of the Bundestag and I really have to say it was underground. Dirty, staff manageably friendly and the food, well. Carelessly presented, not very seasoned and overall just not appealing. No recommendation and any fast food would have been better.

Nice looking old or even older but it's pretty run down. We were invited, there was supposed to be a buffet. Lukewarm broccoli soup, some dumplings, stale bread, something with spinach, all bland and bad. "It's sometimes better not to eat than to eat there."

Place with typical Berlin charm. There was very little going on on Sunday evening, Alt-Moabit is no longer the center despite its proximity to the main train station. This emptiness is now typical for large German cities.

This is a decent place. Our food was nice, tasty. No complaints. The place has a vintage vibe, but that is all right. Waiter was friendly. Overall we had a pleasent dinner.

Beautiful traditional restaurant with old West Berlin charm. Unfortunately, the kitchen lacks the old flair and the food is no more than average, even if you notice the effort. On a Friday evening we were the only guests. That irritated us a bit. Too bad. The restaurant deserves more popularity.

Es gibt, abgesehen von der bekannten Schillerklause, in Berlin nicht mehr allzu viele Lokale mit Alt-Berliner Flair, wo nicht allein mehr oder weniger große Mengen Bier konsumiert werden, sondern auch niveauvoll gespeist wird, ohne daß das Angebot extrem touristenorientiert ist wie in der Gegend Unter den Linden / Friedrichstraße. Das Neumann's ist noch so eine Wohlfühlgaststätte der älteren Art mit angenehmem Innen-Ambiente. Alt-Moabit ist weder eine sprichwörtliche Ausgehmeile noch ein Touristen-Hotspot, was den Besuch angenehm macht und den Geldbeutel ein wenig schont. Neben der festen Karte gibt es hier "Spezialitäten des Monats" und das war kürzlich naturgemäß ein spezielles Weihnachtsangebot. Zu unserem Erstaunen lag diese Sonderkarte jetzt (Ende Januar) immer noch bei und so bestellten wir Gänsekeule. Eine etwas absurde Situation, denn der freundliche, sprachlich etwas schwer zu verstehende Kellner verwies darauf, daß es mit der Weihnachtskarte vorbei sei. Unsere Frage, warum dann diese Angebote dem Gast vorgelegt werden und dieses einliegende Blatt nicht einfach entfernt wird, konnte er zwar nicht beantworten, meinte aber überraschenderweise, er prüfe einmal in der Küche, ob es nicht vielleicht doch Gänsekeule gebe. Und tatsächlich gab es sie, sehr zu unserer Freude... Die Qualität war im besten Sinne grundsolide -- das Geflügelfleisch zwar sehr mager und etwas arg trocken, aber knusprig und von hervorragendem Geschmack mit einer leckeren Orangensauce und einem feinen Kartoffelkloß. Eigentlich kann man als Beilage entweder Grün- oder Rotkohl wählen. Ich hätte Grünkohl bevorzugt, wurde aber nicht gefragt und vergaß im entscheidenden Moment, die Bitte darob auszusprechen. Erwartungsgemäß wurde dann Rotkohl serviert, was mich aber sofort versöhnte, weil das so gut schmeckte. Er war sehr weich und von recht süßlicher Geschmacksnote, was vermutlich nicht jeder so mag, ich persönlich jedoch schon. Zuvor hatte mir eine Spinatcremesuppe mit Sahne und geräuchertem Lachs ebenfalls sehr gefallen. Daß wir von dem freundlichen Kellner danach binnen einer Stunde zehnmal (ich habe mitgezählt) gefragt wurden, ob wir noch etwas bestellen wollten, nervte allerdings ziemlich. Es kann nicht daran gelegen haben, daß unser Platz dringend benötigt worden wäre, denn außer uns waren nur zwei weitere Gäste in der Gaststätte, die ihr Essen genossen.

The atmosphere is very cozy. Nice place to have a drink. The service is very polite and accommodating. Unfortunately, the food was so bad that it was only enough for one star in the overall rating. Since this would actually be too much, the overall rating is only one star despite the service and the very nice ambience. I'll attach 2 pictures later. Image 1. I got a steak and fries. And yes, the experienced observer will notice that it was brought without fries. Not so bad, it was added to over the course of the evening. It is also noticeable that the size of the approximately 1 cm thick steak seems very strange. I then let the plate go back. The staff recognized the problem themselves and apologized for it. Image 2 As you can see, I got a new steak, even with fries, although the size didn't increase exponentially, but this time the thickness was like a steak. It should also be mentioned that the plate that was returned was filled with a new piece of meat and fries. As you can tell from the salad and herb butter. I don't know that from other restaurants.

Wir waren auf der Durchreise eine Nacht in Berlin. Auf der Suche nach einem Restaurant zum Abendessen fanden wir das Neumann's und weil wir solch urige Kneipen sehr schätzen, kamen wir hierher. Ohne Reservierung bekamen wir spontan einen schönen Platz, der Service war sehr freundlich, das Bier lecker und das ganze Ambiente bot viel für's Auge. Ständig entdeckten wir in der Deko neue witzige Highlights. ;-) Zum Essen hatte ich mir ein Bauernomelette bestellt. Das schmeckte sehr gut, wurde schön im Pfännchen serviert und der Salat dazu mit lecker Senfsoße schmeckte ebenfalls sehr gut. Sollten wir wieder einmal hier in der Nähe sein, kommen wir sehr gerne wieder hierher!

We were very surprised by this restaurant. A friendly service who also thought of providing water for the dogs. And the food was really excellent!

Tk goods for so outrageously expensive to sell meat dry sauce out of a bucket.. Never again should I have bought a kebab for €20.

Has no problem with AfD guests and guests who park dangerously incorrectly. There are many much better restaurants in the area.

Not mine anymore. I used to rarely go to Neumanns, but I liked it. This time I had to wait 25 minutes until I was discovered as a customer. But that was only when I changed my mind. The pumpkin soup wasn't to my taste either. Well, it's just a matter of taste 🤷 I go there even less now 😏.

The menu is small, so you can always find something tasty without having to change your mind three times.

Admittedly, we were a larger group, but the first drinks came after 20 minutes and the last person got their food after about 75 minutes. The large breakfast was advertised as including yogurt and ham. The yogurt was missing and the ham was a slice of bacon with more fat than bacon. When I asked the waiter about it, he said it was our ham and he couldn't say anything about the missing yoghurt, he'd let his boss know. But that was it. The best thing was the big pot of coffee, at least it tasted good. The last time I was there was about 22 years ago and it was much better...

The good thing first: the atmosphere in this restaurant is very rustic. The service is ok so far. For my taste, the food was a disaster and not worth the money. A thin "spinach cream soup" that only tasted like asparagus, pork medallions that were twice dead in a thick, industrial-tasting roux and croquettes that don't deserve their name... everything was somehow unseasoned... but everyone experiences taste differently ...but from our point of view you can save yourself the restaurant

Drinks were flat, no gas at all. Food was not that great. Salad was super dry. Nobody bothered to ask how the steak is preffered. Wont be visiting this establishment agan.

The food was delicious, I'm not a fan of mushrooms but the fresh mushroom sauce was wonderful. The atmosphere was good, I didn't want to leave the restaurant.

The restaurant deserves a 3- the food tastes good but it has something of the ready-made food that would only be warmed up for the prices that are quoted a bit disappointing the service is friendly but it seems a bit overwhelmed if you go there in a large group It's very remote, you can't reach it by car because there are no parking spaces there, but the restaurant can't do anything about it. All in all, it's a 3- but there's still room for improvement

Three sets: spinach soup, assorted sausage, and dessert. The soup is a little salty, but it goes well with beer. Sausage is served with sauerkraut. The taste is average, but the sausage, which is probably made with liver (?), has an indescribable flavor that you can't taste in Japan, so it's likely that you won't like it. I'm a little weak at this category. The beer is undeniably delicious, so I think it's a great place to satisfy the desire to ``eat a German-style meal.''
