The food was good, but the service left much to be desired. The waiter got mad because we tipped €5 instead of €9 (which would be 10%), and they were also charging customers to use the bathroom. Plus they were rushing us to leave.

Table of 5. Everything OK until it was time to pay. A (spanish) waitress came to charge already visibily rude upfront. After putting the amount she basically forces you with an automatic 10% tip asking in a pressuring way to accept it. We refused and first person lowered to 5%. The Tip is VOLUNTARY in Germany. Because of this and the rude gestures and faces she did, the others didn't leave tip and that's when SHE really got upset, making impossible faces and throwing the receipts to us shouting "BITTE SCHÖN". We then left and she said to us "not even the Germans behave like this" in a confrontative manner. We explained her impossible behavior. Didn't interest her. Kind suggestion: if you don't like Germany then maybe should try your luck somewhere else ;) I feel sad for the other waiters who were attentive and kind. If u go there do no fall for this tourist trap and let yourself get pressured with the mandatory 10% tip. You can lower to 0% easily and help educating this behavior. Review from a GERMAN

Despite being in a heavily touristic area the food is really good. Everything is served fresh and the flavour is just right. Service is a bit slow though.

I am satisfied with the service, very fast, I liked the wild cranberry sauce the most, unfortunately the side dish with potatoes must be prepared as the salad was not warm, I recommend it for visits, in in the future there is Rulka on the menu, I would like to compare it with Czech cuisine

Quite expensive, in my opinion cheese spaetzle were not authentic and not good either. Vegan food was made possible, but it was very expensive, the portion was much smaller than the spaetzle, and there was no salad.

The famous elbows are excessively greasy. The apple strude is truly delicious.

The food is very ordinary, a lot of fried and fatty foods. But the beer is very tasty! I recommend trying the desserts. When paying, the waiter directly asked if he could add a tip to the bill.

Nous avons été très mal accueillis dans ce restaurant où nous sommes venus pour dîner. Je précise que nous n’avions pas réservé. Du coup nous avons été placés à un table pour quatre alors que nous étions deux . Cette table était sur le passage et en face de l’ouverture de la fenêtre qui permettait aux serveurs d’accéder à l’extérieur. Donc un air plutôt frais a accompagné notre repas… Les plats choisis , poulet enrobé d’une enveloppe de chapelure et des pommes de terre et salade en vinaigrette, et morceau de porc avec un os accompagné de chou, étaient quelconques… Le dessert un apfelstrudel était correct. Lorsque la serveuse a présenté la note sur son terminal, elle a cliqué sur un pourboire à 10% sans nous laisser le choix alors que dans tous les autres restaurants, les serveurs nous ont laissé le choix du pourcentage pour le service. Je rajouterai que le bruit était important et n’a rien arrangé à ce repas qui fut peu agréable. Nous n’y retournerons pas et nous déconseillons ce lieu. Dommage car nous souhaitions découvrir des plats typiques du pays.

We were pleasantly surprised by the place, a guide recommended us to eat here and try the beer and I must say 1000 out of 10, everything was very delicious and the beer not to mention, we went at night and we were lucky to pass quickly, but in the afternoon it seems that there are a lot of people, so it is advisable to make a reservation. You definitely don't have to miss this place.

A good beer restaurant in traditional German-Bavarian style. We ordered a crispy pork knuckle with fried potatoes to share. The knuckle was exactly how I wanted it—really crispy and very tasty. The portion was huge, and the two of us barely managed to finish it. The draft beer was super fresh. I had a liter of light Augustiner and 0.5 of Edelstoff—both were excellent. My girlfriend had a Radler, and even though she normally doesn’t like beer, she was happy with it too. But there’s one thing that applies to many Berlin restaurants—the waitstaff expecting tips. I’ve never understood or accepted that. If I enjoy the service, I always tip voluntarily without being told. That’s the only reason my rating is 4.5 instead of 5.

I wanted to treat myself to a quick beer. Somehow none of the staff really wanted to serve a single guest. I was sent back and forth until I stood at the bar and was given a beer without a greeting. Beer was good.

Esta fue mi tercera visita desde 2022. Definitivamente se recomienda reservar un fin de semana. La comida era excelente como siempre. El servicio fue profesional, amable y receptivo; las mejores calificaciones allí. Los mejores platos fueron la sopa de patatas, goulash de ternera y probar el strudel de manzana de postre. Sin duda recomiendo para la comida bávara en Berlín.

Very bad. Dry and poorly cooked pork knuckle. Rude staff. We asked for a 1kg pork shank and a curry frankfurter and 4 beers. They didn't want to stuff us down. For this reason we decided to divide what we ordered between the 4 of us and asked for two more empty plates. We were told that for two empty plates we would have to pay 7.50 for 2. Ridiculous. In any case everything is of very low quality and even the beers are very poorly poured. Very bad experience. The worst here.

I came there for the first time in 2015 with my first wife... very nice experience. I returned in 2025, with some friends. Disappointing experience. Terrible. A complete disappointment. A real shame. To be avoided completely.

Price/performance really good. The food was the same as you would expect from Bavaria. Roast pork and pork knuckle were excellent (I went there twice because it was delicious). The beer was also sufficiently chilled.

Overall, the place is quite nice, until it's time to pay. The waiter informed us that service was not included and insisted on a 10% tip. When we suggested giving less, he became rude and unpleasant. It's the only place in Germany where we were pressured into leaving a mandatory tip.

A nice location with bar atmosphere. My friend and me came the place around 7pm, the hostess guided us find a table and then ordered the food. Everything is just normal. I ordered the pork shoulder and it’s really greasy for me and really large portion for two ppl at least. It’s quite noisy inside, but it’s like a bistro so it’s fine.

Very good food and good service, but they sat us near the bathrooms, and the smell was horrible, the same when we went to the toilet. What a lack of cleanliness, and they have a lady who takes care of them there. A disgusting toilet.

One of my favorite bars in Berlin! The beer edelstoff is always a special beer pleasure. Also easily accessible by subway to BERLIN MITTE station. There are no parking spaces anyway.

Typical German tavern in a very central location in Berlin. We tried potato soup, schnitzel and strudel with ice cream. The food is very delicious, the beers not to mention. The only thing is that the service can be a little slow, they have few waiters for a large number of diners.

An excellent place to try German specialties. We ordered the "Agustiner Selection" and were not disappointed at all. The sausages are impressive, the pork is wonderful and they serve it on a base of Sauerkraut which I think is a delight. We wanted to have ordered a knuckle but the waitress told us not to, as it would be excessive. He was right. Excellent service and very good value for money.

Augustiner am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin brings a solid slice of Bavarian hospitality to the capital. It's fantastic for getting authentic Augustiner beer, especially the Edelstoff, far from Munich. The location is prime, and the food offers hearty Bavarian classics. While not the same historic feel as Munich, it provides a great atmosphere and reliable quality.

Food was yummy,but overpriced. Very touristy, and the chips/fries reminded me exactly of the frozen lidl fries we eat at home;although they are quite nice. Pricey with decent food. They are known for the pork knuckle,I tried some myself and it was good but not too much flavour? maybe that’s the way it is normally cooked.

Could be a nice place if it hadn’t been for the arrogance of the waiters. Not smiling at all and behaving rude when we asked to pay separately. We asked for the receipt, the waitress just walked away with it. Poor behaviour

The food was delicious, the beer was much better, I didn't like that the waiter demanded a tip of either 10, 15 or 20 per cent no less. I thought, as much as I can, give as much as I can or include a tip in the check, I don't have to sit around and count how much it will be.

A restaurant that forces a 10% tip payment and gets angry when asked about it. The service is terrible, and the food is mediocre at best. They even charge extra to use the restroom, which is bizarre. This place feels like a scam — tourists should avoid it and choose one of the many excellent German restaurants instead.

They charged 10% tip without any explanation. And when we ask about it, they don't want to have a conversation about it and just say it's german culture. But they didn't do any service(they just put the extra dishes and we share it by our self). And my german friend said tip is not necessary in german, but they lied to us. If it's a typical Berlin thing, I can understand, but when I asked about it, they said it's mandatory in all of german. I was really disappointed about this restaurant, and it destroyed our trip. I will remember german as this restaurant and I will remember it's unrespectful.

Typical German restaurant, pleasant atmosphere, professional service, menu with traditional dishes at a good price. The only drawback is that because we are tourists they tell you that the tip is not included and they charge you 10% of the final price for it.

A well-maintained and luxurious restaurant without a doubt, excellent food and a somewhat limited menu, but at the end of dinner I go to the bathroom for toilet facilities and find an illegal janitor with sweets who asks for tips from passing customers, I ask the staff (if they are aware of this) to do something about it.

Loved the Augustine AM was a nice place to have lunch. A friend had the crispy knuckle and I had sausages. Food was great. Weiss beer was awesome. Will definitely visit again

Typical place to eat the typical Berlin knuckle, the knuckle is baked and has a very crispy and good skin, then the meat is rolled into a ball, difficult to eat, good service and good place.

I was recommended this place by a friend who lives in Berlin, and it lived up to the hype!! Upon arrival, the atmoshphere was great, and we really felt the authentic German restaurant vibe we were promised. The staff were great and over the evening they gave us free schnapps. The food was also very good, and it was nice to be eating German food alongside Germans and not tourists.

The host/manger you had working tonight the 29th was the most obnoxious, rude person I’ve ever dealt with at a restaurant. Walked in, said we had three. Blonde racist at the front said we needed a reservation. I said ok. He said we could make one, but we would have to hurry as he was blocking tables. Which I could see him doing. Then said I should get out of his way and he didn’t have time for this. Claimed he was the manager. With those lederhosen he was really playing the part. Great business model insulting guests. Then when I told him I lived in Berlin 20 years ago, he said it was Berliner humor. Zero stars. He should be fired. If I owed this business I would be ashamed of a “manager” telling a guest they don’t want them to eat here.

Excelente para el almuerzo y la cena. El nudillo de cerdo es enorme. Ambos pedimos uno y el camarero nos dijo que son masivos y probablemente lo mejor es compartir uno y tener un lado en su lugar. Tenía razón, ya que eran enormes y nos llenaron perfectamente. Fui a la noche siguiente por el pastel de carne y luego almorzar el día después para curry wurtz todo excelente. Oh y el pudín era increíble. Gran comida muy razonable.

First of all, you get what you expect, great ambience, great beer and something to eat. Unfortunately the food isn't that great, there's a lot of emphasis on speed. The service was nice but not attentive, and at the end we were asked to pay at 11:15 p.m. because then we wanted to call it a day. Opening hours until midnight.

The atmosphere is nice and the food is delicious. I think it's worth a visit at least once. Schwein Hakse is too big to eat alone. A 10% tip is mandatory.

Sorry, we didn't like it. If we wanted to have a beer for Dad's Day, the tables that were free were filled with dirty dishes from our predecessors and no staff showed up at our place for a long time. The excuse was that there was unfortunately a staff shortage, but it was conveyed to us in a friendly manner. OK!

An authentic German place. We ate there a couple of days and the food was great. The atmosphere is very cozy and you will eat surrounded by local people, something that is appreciated. Tips are not included and in some cases they are required and that can be uncomfortable.

Wir hatten reserviert und zur Platzierung haben uns 5 Menschen angesprochen die nicht zuständig waren. Das dessen war unter unseren Erwartungen und der Service richtig schlecht. Schade.

Unfortunately the food was rather mediocre. I had the baked potato salad with potato salad, which tasted just like it came from the supermarket shelf. There was nothing wrong with the Händl itself. My girlfriend had the cheese spaetzle, which was good. The Kaiserschmarrn for dessert had nothing in common with the original version and had too much spice. The beer was good. The service was prompt and competent.

The place was highly recommended to us and we were afraid we wouldn't like it. Honestly, everything we had was delicious. We were looking for typical German food and the knuckle was honestly great. The quality-price ratio is also very good.

We were recommended this restaurant through various channels, and it was a great choice. A 100% Berlin restaurant with delicious food at reasonable prices (as reasonable there). The pork knuckle is delicious, as is the soup. Their own beers of all kinds are also delicious.

I recently dined here and had an amazing experience! The dishes I tried, including the sausages & potatoes, the curry wurst, and schnitzel, were absolutely delicious. Each dish was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Additionally, they offer an excellent selection of beers that complemented the meals wonderfully. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I highly recommend i to anyone looking to enjoy authentic German cuisine.
