Found this restaurant while walking back from the mural wall, great atmosphere and friendly staff, all the food I saw being taken to other dinners looked amazing, I had the Beef Goulash which was so nice I would have gone back if it hadn’t been our last day.

A great place to experience authentic Bavarian food and beer in a festive environment. I don’t need to eat a pork knuckle everyday but certainly glad I tired it.

Food was okay, wouldn’t say it was particularly great. Service was quick and food came out suspiciously quick. Only issue if you sit outside you are attacked by wasps and ruins your whole eating experience. This was mentioned to staff and they didn’t seem to care. Upon paying staff request a minimum of a 10% tip before you can even decide what to tip.

Typical German restaurant, with wooden tables and checkered tablecloths. We ate very well, an amazing pork shank in a very pleasant setting and atmosphere. Very kind staff who advised us to only take one shank because it was very large and it turned out to be a correct choice. Good beer, absolutely worth trying.

Typical place and the staff gave us an excellent welcome not to mention the impeccable and warm service (if you come here ask to be served by Julia). Very good food, generous portions. If you are looking for something traditional this is the right place to go to eat. I will definitely come back.

A guide recommended this restaurant for typical German food, especially if we wanted to try knuckle. And it was a success, the knuckle was delicious. The service was very attentive, we understood each other well in English. It is a central location

Good traditional German atmosphere and reasonable prices but when we ordered they said they had run out of some menu options. Suspiciously we saw other tables receiving these items when we were leaving about an hour later! Staff were okay but when we asked a question they weren't interested to answer and help us. Overall it was okay.

I had done a review 5 years ago, but I have to update it. We were a group of 8 people having beers, we asked for several french fries as side dishes and they told us that the restaurant policy didnt allow to serve side dishes if the customer is not having a main dish. Even if the side dishes were on the menu on a dedicated section. I thought the waiter was joking but... apparently not. Quite sad for the restaurant to loose the opportunity of us asking the fries and then dinner, or for sure, getting more drinks due to the thirst you get when eating french fries. Quite amazing...

It was a good experience but there far better Bavarian restaurant than this one. Nothing extraordinary. Service was good though, we were served immediately (food has been prepared in advance). We eat outside since inside it was too noisy. We had the knuckle (huge piece but I didn’t like the fact that it was cooked in advance), goulash was pretty good (I understand this has to be prepared in advance). An overall OK dinner but not extraordinary

Cute, nothing special, the food is good, not exciting but the staff was helpful when I said I'm lactose intolerant.

This Munich brewery is centrally located, directly on the Gendarmenmarkt. The menu is quite clear but has enough to suit every taste. At the beginning the staff was on their toes, but later on people showed up less and less. With the knuckle there is only cabbage, you have to order dumplings separately. So far there has always been cabbage and dumplings. Probably to keep the price low, they left out the dumplings and can then order them for €4.50 per portion (one portion is 2 pieces). Apart from that, it's a nice brewery and there are also some outdoor spaces in the summer.

They were out of 3 meals on the menu. Waiter never said when seating us. Then waiter wanted 10% tip at end. Did not provide. Good for beer. Otherwise stay away.

We stumbled across this place by accident and stopped for a beer to rehydrate ourselves! It's a popular place and is really nice with lots of outdoor street seating, but there can be a bad drain smell on one side we noticed. The Berlin currywurst was just sausage and chips which we don't recommend over some of the other foods on the menu. There's not a great choice of food choice for vegetarians though. Wine spritzer is really nice and the Augustiner hell beer is really good too

The staff is friendly and the food is not bad, but if you order Schweinhaksen when the store is open in the summer and fall, flies and bees flock to it like crazy so you can't eat comfortably😂😂 At first, it was an outdoor place, so I moved it indoors and it was the same haha. I was busy chasing away flies and couldn't solve it. I just ate it and left.

Nice restaurant, our food was really good and good price. We charged the tip because the waiter was really nice. It was starting to rain and he run to us asking if we wanted to go inside. Not a tourist trap as many can say, price is on average for Berlin center…do not complain for water, you are in Germany, you know water is more expensive than beer 😂 (we took two beers, of course). We ordered the knuckle that had been recommended to us and it is the driest knuckle I have ever eaten. Without potatoes, without sauce, it was difficult to eat it. I'm not coming back

Hemos comido aquí dos días de las dos semanas pasadas en Berlín. Sobre todo por el buen recuerdo que teníamos de nuestra estancia en junio del año pasado en estas cervecerías Augustiner en Múnich. El primer día que comimos aquí nos defraudó un poco la cocina y nos pareció que el precio había pegado un buen salto. A pesar de todo, nuestra afición a la comida alemana cuando estamos por aquí nos empujó a volver otra vez. Este año algo ha cambiado a la hora de pagar, no sé si en el país o es solo cosa de Berlín. Ahora se aceptan más las tarjetas y ha aparecido en varios de los restaurantes a los que hemos ido la petición de pago por el servicio: después de mostrar la cuenta en el datáfono, aparece otra pantalla con las opciones 5, 10, 15 por ciento o nada por el servicio. El cliente decide. El caso es que en Augustiner Berlín al parecer en nuestra primera visita no tenían instalada esa opción. En la segunda, para nuestra sorpresa, después de mostrarnos la cuenta (83,10 €), por arte de magia nos encontramos con que habíamos pagado 91,41 €. La camarera nos debió de hacer un juego de manos para incluir un 10 por ciento en la cuenta. Engañar a los clientes no atrae más clientela, todo lo contrario. Conmigo que no cuenten con estas prácticas.

Food is OK, quite tasty but a limited menu. Unfortunately, although the waiter was friendly, he left us sitting for 15 minutes after we asked for the bill, we paid after asking another member of staff to deal with us. Wouldn't go back.

At the moment the outdoor area is in the large Gendarmenmarkt construction site. Good Bavarian beer of the usual quality and decent food at fair prices. Berlin seems to have a fondness for Bavarian taverns.

Somewhat like a Disney version of a Bavarian restaurant. Four out of 5 staff aren’t German. Thus, it has a somewhat inauthentic feel. Reminds me of the German pavilion at Epcot, although the staff there tend to be native German. Odd

The first time I tasted Berlin’s currywurst, it suited my taste. Curry spices were added to the fried sausages, plus rich beef soup. It was a very good dinner.

Tremendous experience. 45 minute wait for very poor quality food: raw chicken. Bottled water costing 0.75, paid €8.50. Music: thirties marches no longer in fashion for a while.

Ideal for discovering German specialties. Lots of choice in terms of drinks and food. The quality is there. However, be careful, the prices on the card do not take into account the “tips” which must be added, i.e. 10% of the bill.

The food is delicious, the service and the waiters are very nice and the atmosphere is spectacular. The food, like schnitzel or pretzels, which is local food, is delicious.

I've been here a few times and my review would be that this place is very hit and miss. The physical restaurant is quite impressive inside and evokes a true Bavarian Brauhaus. It's a great touch that the waiters and waitresses wear traditional Bavarian dress too! What's more, the food can be quite good and they offer good sizes of portions. If you're a beer drinker, you'll have a lot (both in size and range) to choose from too. That said, the place can be quite short-staffed or rather the staff could perhaps be more organised. Some of the staff handle the stress better than others too and some will be very curt and abrupt with their 'service' when in a rush. There can be a lot of waiting around and you don't really feel greatly welcomed by the people working there typically, but again, this does vary from person to person (although the service is on the colder side all in all). Something I found very disappointing in light of the above, was the staff being very forceful when it comes to tipping, which should never be pressured upon someone to do and is not common practice in Germany. Especially when the quality of service was not that good. The prices are definitely very expensive relative to the rest of Berlin and this is likely due to the heavy footfall from tourists (which also explains the lack of effort from the restaurant in places). There can be music and great atmosphere from the guests themselves however and I have had some really great evenings here. A minor note is that the toilets are effectively chargeable as there is a kind cleaning lady who politely sits at the loos for tips. But it's not anything major to think about and she was very friendly. All things considered, it's a decent restaurant for the atmosphere and fits if you want a Bavarian experience while in Berlin. But the customer service and efficiency of the restaurant needs a lot of work, especially since for the 2x premium you pay to go here, I expect better.

Good location and good beer. Average food, cathegory Like at the Messe Uni. Service unorganized. Not to be recommended, until they change food and service standards. We sit outside at some barrels, nothing to complain about. Interior was more wooden classic german style (Bayrische Brauerei), so that added to the location in the middle of business district (Kiez Friedrich), might explain a certain popularity.

Pure disaster! After a concert, we just wanted to order two large beers with two portions of fries, but no, the main course is mandatory - even in a half-empty restaurant at 11 p.m. The service? Super unfriendly, typical Berlin unfriendliness. She told us twice that she was not responsible. Had to beg for ketchup three times and salt twice. The fries? Tiny! When we finally had them, she came over in a snarky tone and said: “Mhm, it worked.” And then the empty plates remained on the table for half an hour. Absolutely overpriced, unfriendly and a pure tourist trap. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else!

The best roast pork in the city of Berlin. 22 euros, 1 kg. It's worth it.

Be very careful with the trick they try to make with the tip. It is NOT Mandatory as they try to make us tourists believe. It is a very touristy place and they abuse it. We don't leave anything. Ask for the bill first and tell them not to charge you more, be very careful because they can mark it if you pay by card

When we sat down in the restaurant we had to wait a very long time before being served. In the end we had to ask someone to take our order. Fortunately, the schnitzel was served quickly and was very tasty. The fries, on the other hand, only came 20 minutes later, when the schnitzel was already gone. The mayonnaise we ordered with the fries was brought another 10 minutes later, when the fries had already become lukewarm. Although the apple strudel we received was very tasty, the side that we did not immediately see was burnt black. This was very disappointing. When we asked for the bill, we were immediately presented with the card machine, while the waitress kept the receipt behind her. She asked if the amount was correct, so we held our phone to the device. To our surprise, the price suddenly jumped by 8 euros. We asked what the reason for this was, and she told us it was a mandatory tip. We found this strange, as this was not stated on the receipt and unfortunately we did not receive the service we expected.

2024-07-29. A popular place right in the center of Berlin, a perfect place for those who want a Bavarian meal. The food was good but lacked a little love. It felt quite quickly put together and I would have liked a bit more flavor in both the sauce (more sauce in addition) but also the meat, which was somewhat tough compared to all the other restaurants we visited. The dumpling was super tasty, perfectly doughy, nice color and good with the breadcrumbs on top. My table partner chose a goulash stew which tasted superb and I was almost jealous. Can highly recommend this dish! The service was pleasant and the place is very nice both inside and out, you can expect a lot of people and that it is on a busy street with many passers-by close by. For our dishes and beer, we paid a total of 680 Swedish kronor, which is the same price range as at many other restaurants in the area. The only thing we reacted to is that they add the tip themselves, which for us was €5.20, which we thought was a bit much.

Toen we aan in het restaurant zaten hebben we erg lang moeten wachten totdat we bediend werden, we moesten uiteindelijk zelf iemand vragen om een bestelling voor ons op te nemen. De schnitzel kwam gelukkig wel snel en was erg lekker, maar de friet kwam pas toen de schnitzel al op was na 20 minuten. De mayonaise die we bij de friet hadden besteld kwam vervolgens nog 10 minuten later, toen de friet ook alweer lauw was geworden. De apfelstrudel die we kregen was erg lekker, maar aan de kant die wij niet meteen te zien kregen zwart verbrand. Dit was ook erg jammer. Toen we om de rekening vroegen, kregen we meteen het pinautomaat voor ons gehouden en hield ze de bon achter zich. Ze vroeg of het goed was, dus we legde onze telefoon erop en opeens sprong de prijs met 8 euro omhoog. We vroegen wat dit was en ze vertelde ons dat dit een verplichte tip was. Dit vonden we vreemd aangezien dit niet op de bon staat en we jammer genoeg niet zo geholpen en bediend waren zoals we hadden gehoopt.

I give it a three, although everything was good, they tried to charge us a tip. According to them, this is normal, after a few days we were able to verify that this is not the case. In Germany...... well yes.

They take cards from €25, it's impossible to have a beer now.

When I pointed out to the grumpy waiter that I’ve been waiting for over 30 minutes for my food; he didn’t bother to go back to the kitchen to see if there was an issue, instead he proceeded to give me a lecture on how backed chicken takes a very long time to apparently bake. After the meal, when he presented me the bill, he had the chutzpah to demonstratively and loudly explain to me that tip isn’t included….. I am not sure I would exactly be ever returning or recommending this place after this oh so “charming” and “pleasant” exchange.

For us it's no. They make us sit at a table with the dirty dishes of those who had dined before us with crumbs on the tablecloth and two stains like freshly made sauce. We wait because we think that the waiter will come to arrange the table by consulting the menu but when he arrived (in the photo they have on the site he is the first on the left) he was about to put the dishes on the dirty tablecloth. We ask if he can kindly change it and he tells us that the tablecloth is clean. We show him the stains and, making strange faces, he tells us that those are nothing and that if we want he could cover them. Since what he was saying seemed absurd to us (and we suspected we had misunderstood) we watched him go away dumbfounded....he reappeared 40 seconds later with two paper coasters to cover the stains and looking at us he told us that it was now clean. We got up and left if the level of cleanliness is this in front of everyone I can't imagine what happens in the kitchens.

A lovely lunch and a lovely atmosphere, not too busy and the portions are generous too.

The food is good but from the time you order it to the time it is brought it takes 1 clock hour (I'm not exaggerating), plus no waiter comes to you to apologize or offer you “an appetizer”… well, better a Currywurtz anywhere than that : good, cheap and, above all, they serve it to you on the go

The waitress had to be signaled several times so that the table was cleared and re-set. Table was cleaned very superficially. All very inattentive! The Viennese style schnitzel we ordered was very tasteless and dry. The worst schnitzel in a really long time! Unfortunately, my family's other food wasn't any better. Unfortunately the name was chosen incorrectly, as the schnitzels are prepared better in Bavaria. Once and never again for this high price!

The schnitzel was not breaded well. The pretzel dumplings were a bit unseasoned but good with the dip. Salad was very good. They can't do anything for the construction site.

Fab Bavarian food! I tried the famous Pork knuckle and just like everyone says - it's a serving for two you cannot eat it alone (I tried). Don't wait to be seated here, just grab a table that gets free! Also, timings on Google Maps aren't for kitchen close, so make sure u reach by 10pm or so latest.

The site is very large, so you can go without a reservation. Furthermore, as the cathedrals are under construction, the street is closed and they have taken advantage of it to have even more space. As soon as we arrived they saw us and took care of us. There was a lot of variety on the menu of different typical German foods. We ordered the meatloaf, schnitzel and currywurst. They gave us the food pretty quickly and the service was very nice and willing to speak to us in English. The food was very good. The only drawback was that it took them around 30 minutes to give us the bill despite notifying them to come more than once. In the end we understood that they were busy with all the people and that we could wait. Overall, a very large and good place to eat typical German food.

Unfortunately, my experience at this Berlin bar was very disappointing. They forced me to tip 10 euros without asking, which I found very unprofessional. Furthermore, we were a group of Spaniards and the same thing happened to all of us. It was obvious that the room manager does not like to serve Spaniards, which is unacceptable and discriminatory. As for the food, it is not of quality and the prices are excessive. In short, poor customer treatment, expensive food and an unpleasant experience. I don't recommend this place.

It is a restaurant with outdoor tables with a nice atmosphere. The advantage is that it is open until late hours. The pig's feet are edible, but there's nothing that sets them apart from other restaurants, and it can be a bit greasy if you don't order cabbage salad. Beer is a must.

The food is good, the service average. They take a long time at times and they forced us to leave a tip when paying by card. It is typical German food, more from the southern area than from Berlin, but if you feel like eating a knuckle it is not a bad option.

Not really Bavarian atmosphere and service takes time, but the food and beer are good. Big portions and 1 pork knee was more than enough for 3 people. Tartar was also a good one.

The staff was very rude and acted like they did not want to serve my party of five. We only experienced such rudeness in the two East Berlin restaurants we ate at during our stay. Yes, more than one, and will review the other one on here as well. I cannot tell you exactly why we were treated with such disdain other than I could not speak German and I'm an American. With me were my wife, her sister and our nephew who are Filipinos. We were in Berlin for the first time celebrating 41 years of marriage but we will never stay or eat in East Berlin ever again. We did not experience this type of rude behavior in West Berlin nor in Nuremberg or Munich. Beware, this business appears to be racist towards foreigners who visit their establishment.

They brought us the wrong beer, and when we told them, they got angry, brought us another beer, again, not the one we asked them for, and they brought it like this… not very bad customer service, wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Our waiter was the one with glasses, make sure you don’t get service from him

Sat there for 40 minutes, there wasn't much going on but they refused to serve me for no reason at all... Disappointing. Kitchen etc. wasn't closed yet either.

Arrived at 23:55. They were closed and have been closing at midnight since Covid in 2021 and their kitchen closes at 23:00. They didn’t care that ten people showed up while we waiting for an Uber or that their google listing was wrong or that our hotel recommended them. Tourist spot that treats travelers trash. Screw them.

Loved the entire experience from service food and location. Unfortunately they were renovated the Gendarmemplatz so the view was not as nice as it could have been but this is out of the control of the lovely staff and excellent food. Can only recommend

I made a reservation and visited this place to eat hakseon! Haksen was such a delicious food!!!! It was the best, with a perfect texture on the outside.. The portions were very large. Be careful, because it was the weekend, there were a lot of people and the response was a bit slow.. Please note that the system is not as fast as in Korea. The taste of the food was generally satisfactory, so I think I will go again next time😊

I would have given 3 stars as it can be a bit "touristic" in the negative sense. Also, it can be almost full easily. But their beer... there's no beer like their Augustiner.

The waitress "Julia" or "Juliet" was quite disagreeable. Of course he asked for a tip at the end, arrogant gesture for the little tipping we do give. The place is a classic Bavarian atmospherethe and food is acceptable.
