We're from Spain and we've fallen in love with this place. Comparing dinner at a typical Spanish restaurant to this one, it was an unforgettable experience for us. The dishes are authentic and incredibly generous; one course is more than enough, at least for dinner. The service from all the staff was outstanding. For three people, including a shot with our coffee, the bill came to €43 per person. If you want to dine in an authentic setting, don't hesitate. A perfect 10!

We felt very comfortable. The kitchen was open until 11 pm and the food was delicious. The place was packed, but all the staff were friendly and smiling, even though their shoes must have been burning. We'd love to come back. 🥰

The food and beer are fine. What I've only ever experienced here: charging paying customers 50 cents to use the toilet. As I understand it, this is not permitted under Section 4, Paragraph 4 of the Berlin Restaurant Regulations! And what is (generally, but also here) unacceptable: shouting in German at people who clearly do NOT speak German. Repeating a question or shouting doesn't make it any clearer.

We were there with a group of about 20 people and had a nice evening. The restaurant was very busy. The staff were friendly. The food was average.

We ate dinner here with friends after the Berlin Marathon 2025. The restaurant was mobbed but the staff handled the crowds brilliantly. The service was excellent and the food was an experience all of its own. The pork knuckle was something we don’t get in the states and really made a statement with the presentation and taste! We sat outside facing the Konzerthaus and it was a fabulous atmosphere and evening.

We went to Augustiner in Berlin last weekend and had a mixed experience overall. The food was good and the beer – as always at Augustiner – was delicious. Unfortunately, the service wasn't up to its usual standard this time. Right from the start, we ordered pretzels with our beer, but they were more like dry, salty snacks – hard and far from fresh, soft pretzels. When we asked about it, we were simply told that they were "okay." It's a shame, because we would have appreciated a bit more understanding and consideration. Overall, the staff seemed unengaged and not particularly friendly. This unfortunately detracted somewhat from what was otherwise a pleasant evening. It's a pity, because with more attentive and warmer service, the evening could have been perfect.

For me it was just OK. Not bad but nothing special.

Was very tasty food and lovely beer, was just slightly put off by staff asking to leave a tip, we would have anyway but off-putting when staff request it when you're trying to pay.

We were super happy to find this traditional informal beer hall. It was exactly what I was looking for in Berlin - lively recorded German music, good beer, decent goulash and beef consommé and moderate pricing. However, when we went back the second time, the waitress chose the tip percentage for me which I did not appreciate. I felt taken advantage of due to not understanding German.

We've been coming to the Augustiner for years and love it. It's always delicious! These days, we share the "Schlemmerpfanne" (a Bavarian dish) – it has everything you'd expect from a Bavarian kitchen.

Very cozy, even if the music is really loud, but something would be missing without Bavarian music. We were a group of eight and received a very friendly welcome. The white sausages were good and the homemade mustard was excellent. The service seemed overwhelmed; they asked who wanted water even though we had ordered Sprite, the sausage pot was almost spilled all over the table, and we were pushed aside so the server could put the food on the table. The toilet reeks so incredibly of ammonia that it's almost impossible to use it.

A German restaurant with classic decor. I ordered a set menu that included a little bit of everything, and a beer. It was fine, but I didn't like the tipping policy. They automatically add 10% of the total, and you're not given the option to change it, which puts the customer in a very awkward position. For that reason alone, I don't think I'll be back.

We went a couple of times as near hotel. First time just for beers & wines. Which were well priced & tasty. 2nd time for a quick lunch we shared the ham & cheeseboard and a currywurst. Both were tasty. Place was very busy as lunchtime but quiet late evening. We didn’t book but no problem getting a table. Our only issue was the waiter who put a 20% tip on the bill without asking but when we mentioned this it was quickly resolved and refunded. Management were very apologetic. Would return again.

Found it eventually and it was worth the wait. Beer from the wood is fantastic. Service bang on what you would expect from such a mighty beer brand.

Very nice atmosphere, but the food was quite simple for the price. The waiter was friendly at first but became very unpleasant at the end of the service when asking for a tip (€90 bill for three people). We offered 2€ that he refused, saying it was not enough. How rude!

We had a fantastic evening. The atmosphere was truly wonderful, and the beer tasted excellent. What's especially cool is that the keg is opened at 6:00 PM—a wonderful highlight for all guests! I honestly don't understand why some people say there's a charge for using the restroom. When I was there, everything was free. Definitely recommend it—I'd love to come back!

If you're nearby, it's a nice place to drop in. You can probably get in without a reservation, as long as it's not a weekend. The food is typical German, and the portions are large, as is typical of Germany. The taste is quite average.

The waiters at this traditional German restaurant are apparently systematically cheating tourist families with children. The bill lacks a breakdown of the portions ordered, the lunch prices are significantly rounded up, and to top it all off, a ten-euro tip is added to the bill. I never would have thought I'd experience such service and fraud at this restaurant!

We had a lovely lunch here — the dishes were delicious, well-prepared, and the portions were generous. The restaurant was quite busy during lunchtime, which may be a good sign of its popularity. Overall, we were very satisfied with our choice. The only reason for giving four stars is that the service was a little slow, likely due to the lunchtime rush.

Meh, meh. Nice food, nothing special. Rather expensive for what's on the plate. (We had schnitzels, they were very thin and dry). But above all, the service was as unfriendly as could be. It needs to be changed. If you visit Berlin, move on. There are plenty of other gastronomic places worth a visit. PS: Excellent strudel.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. However, we had a very, very bad experience due to a mistake made by the waiters. When we arrived, we asked for tables for a large group and were assigned several. It turned out they thought we were another group that had a prior reservation. When the people who had actually reserved those tables arrived, they told us — in a very rude way — that we had to leave the tables and that they wouldn’t serve us anything else because “the restaurant is theirs” and they can kick people out whenever they want. The man was extremely unpleasant and disrespectful, all because of a mistake they made. If you’re looking for a relaxed place to go with friends or family, this is definitely not the right spot.

I don't know if it's because I was the only Asian and they ignored me, but they forced me to tip. When I was paying, the server asked if I could tip 20% and I paid right away, so I couldn't refuse and they forced me to tip. Don't go there. Maximilian is right nearby and is much friendlier and has better food.

Over charged me and did not even ask me. Took a 10 percent tip for herself and she didn’t even serve us. She sneakily did this by card. Really rude and took advantage by doing this. Be wary you will be charged extra without asking.

As classic as it gets. A true German restaurant in every sense. Oktoberfest atmosphere with large beer mugs that keep flowing. The Bavarian-style food is simply excellent. An outstanding place.

The food was of poor quality, and the service was between unfriendly and indifferent. The food didn't come together, and dessert was forgotten. Definitely not a recommendation.

Complicated dinner! A glass tray accident and a shower of wine and beer. It doesn't matter, it happens, and the waitress apologized profusely. None of her colleagues helped her clean it up, and we never saw her again. The service was laborious, with a waiter pacing around and not realizing we were waiting in vain... for a glass of wine... for dessert. Not to mention the €9 tip! Unacceptable. Avoid.

Typical Bavarian food: meat, potatoes, soups, etc., but not bad. The beer was good, although there were only two sizes on tap: 0.5L and 1L. It was very crowded and noisy, but it was fine. We booked online and it was fine, although there was a queue when we arrived, and they mixed up people who had a reservation with those who didn't. The biggest disappointment came when we paid, since, as other reviews indicate, they tried to impose a mandatory tip upon payment, a minimum of 10%. We told her we didn't want to add a tip, and the waitress started asking us why, quite aggressively. When I told her we weren't used to tipping in our country, she told us that in Germany it was customary, and IT'S A LIE, don't be fooled. I told her it wasn't true, and she stood there for a few seconds, not knowing what to add. But then she came back with another story about the waiters' salaries, their jobs, and that other tables did tip (pointing to the table next to us, who were English and only spoke English). This entire conversation was in German, probably taking advantage of the fact that most tourists don't speak German. When he realized we weren't going to leave a tip, we got him to charge us, and he ran off cursing at other waiters and blatantly pointing fingers at us. On top of all this, it took them 15 minutes to bring us two beers and 40 minutes!!!! to bring us two dishes, and they still wanted the minimum 10% tip.

Great restaurant!! It was very busy when we were there, but luckily we still got a seat without a reservation. Despite the restaurant being fully booked and the wait staff being under a lot of stress, the gentleman who served us was super friendly and genuine (unfortunately, we don't have a name; he was a bit corpulent, around 30 years old). Thank you so much for a great evening. Due to the number of people there, the background noise was quite loud, so you could barely hear the Bavarian music. The food is good, traditional Bavarian fare with great quality (beef goulash and cheese spaetzle).

Despite seeming crammed full they managed to find us a table for 6, great beer and food, currywurst was lovely, Festbier excellent. Service was excellent too.

We've been waiting for an hour and a half for our order, we could die of hunger 👀

We came here for the first time and were initially very impressed. There was a very long line out the door and it was very busy inside. The guy seating us was lovely. We had a reservation at 6pm under Vysotsky. We proceeded to sit down and our waiter came over. His German was sub par but it's ok because I am from Australia and happy to speak English with him. We asked him what to order if we're not super hungry and he recommended the pork knuckle for my friend and the schnitzel for me. The food came out incredibly quickly and looked great but HUGE portions. Not appropriate considering we said we weren't overly hungry. He either doesn't comprehend English well either or was upselling to make the business more money. Either way, it didn't bother me. The pork knuckle was rather bland. We got to the end of our meal and we asked for the bill, the waiter took more than 15 minutes to bring the bill. That's ok, I understand that it's busy. But then he brought the bill and it was 59.50, we gave him 60 eur cash and then I said I would take the 50c to give to the lady working in the toilet as she was very upbeat and friendly and I didn't have any small money at the time I went to pee. He then started yelling and demanding a tip from me. I said in my country we don't tip and furthermore in Germany there is 0 expectation to tip. I have never been demanded a tip from before like this. He didn't even provide good service. Why would I tip him anything, he makes a liveable wage considering his qualifications. If he wants to earn more, he should get a degree or use it if he has one. I asked for my change and he walked off and ignored me. I then grabbed him again and he said he didn't have my change. I asked if he could grab it from another server so I could give it to the toilet worker. He said no he couldn't grab money from anyone else. It's rude and entitled of you to act like this. It makes a lot of sense considering the server was not German. This is not the German way to act and is extremely disrespectful and sad for foreigners visiting and being exploited. You should fire this worker, he was extremely disrespectful considering we are PAYING customers. In service jobs, you never argue back to the customer and you most certainly don't refuse to give back money that you owe to a customer. Please share my condolences to the toilet worker lady, I wanted to pay her but was unable to due to this hostile server.

Excessive heat inside. We had to wait a long time for our order. When we asked for the bill, they pressured us to leave a tip. They said they didn't ask why, and then insisted.

Aside from the disappointing food (the quality unfortunately deteriorated significantly) and the slow service (there were four of us and we received the remaining two glasses 20 minutes after ordering), the red-haired waitress with glasses behaved extremely rudely. She felt we should have left her a generous tip despite the unsatisfactory service, and she explicitly compared us with other tables (with personal, unsolicited opinions). I recommended she go back to work, and thanks to her, the restaurant lost four customers. One last message for the employee: shame on you.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and absolutely loved it. The Bavarian food and beer were excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. It was busy during dinner time, but the service was quick.

As soon as we entered, they took us to a separate dining room... Later, we realized it was a dining room exclusively for foreigners. What a mess! Segregation, even for eating in Germany. Then, the food was very average. But the best part was that when we paid, the waitress had added a 10% tip... When I told her no, she told me it wasn't a tip, which I had my doubts about, and in the end, we left her 5%. On top of that, the lady didn't like it. LET'S GO!!!!

After a long time, we went back to the Augustiner. The food and drinks were okay. The restaurant itself was cold, and the atmosphere was not pleasant. If you look around a little more closely, you can see thick, germ-covered patches of dirt on the yellow side walls and ceiling. No renovations in years. The health department should really come by. We won't be back for a while.

The ambiance and food are great. It's very quaint and cozy there. What's a no-go is that as a guest you have to pay to use the restrooms, and they're still not clean at all. That's unacceptable. Hence two stars deducted for service.

We randomly found this place on our casual city walk. It was supposed to be for 1 drink but ended up for 3hr drinking plus food. The host was very welcoming and good sense of humor. The pork knuckle was amazing at a good price.

Bad experience at this place. The free tour guide recommended it to us, which is why we went in. Very disappointing. We'd already had pork knuckle in other restaurants, and this one is one of the worst; it was rather cheap and looked worse. Currywrust was good, but just like any other street stall that costs less than half what it does here. Drinks were expensive, but like everywhere in Berlin. But the worst part was paying the bill. The receipt indicated one amount and the card reader indicated a higher amount because they wanted a tip. When we told him no, the waiter was rude. They barely bothered serving you, and on top of that, they wanted a 10-dollar tip. I don't recommend it.

I would leave negative stars if I could. We had a great experience up until it was time to pay. The waiter asked if we wanted to leave tip on the card. I said we would leave money on the table when we were done as we still had some beer to finish. He proceeded to stand over us and demand a minimum tip of 10%. He opened his purse and put it in the middle of the table. I proceeded to put 4 euros in and he demanded more. I said I gave you 10% and he acted like he didn't see because I put it directly in his coin purse that he had open directly in front of us instead of putting it on the table. Would never go back or recommend. Not a way to treat customers.

It was cold inside the place, they took a long time to serve us and with little interest, the knuckle was tough and the rind maybe a little too old, the beer seemed like water and on top of that the waiter treated us terribly, because we didn't give him a tip, I would have put him to work in the fields to earn it

The food was great! After a long day of sightseeing we ordered a starter, beer and meal each. Everything was great until it was time to pay. The waiter demanded a 10% tip and stood over us asking for more. It was very uncomfortable and after 8 days of traveling in Germany and Austria this was the first time we ever encountered anything like this. I would not recommend this restaurant for tourists due to trying to be bullied by the staff.

A wonderful traditional German restaurant, I really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We were there during Oktoberfest and had a great time – traditional German music and food. I ordered the Nuremberg sausages, and I highly recommend them.

Great schnitzel and potato salad

The place was very crowded when we visited, so it felt a bit hectic and noisy. The potato soup was delicious, the beef was cooked perfectly, and the apple tart was excellent. The decoration and atmosphere were also very nice.

A hearty Bavarian meal is just as much a part of autumn as the colorful leaves falling from the trees. This time we visited the Augustiner at Gendarmenmarkt. Booking a table went smoothly. The ambiance was as expected and typically Bavarian. The beer was at a comfortable temperature and tasty. The service rotated constantly, so there was a different server at the table for each order. About the food: The beef broth appetizer was delicious and well-seasoned, but could have been served hotter. The knuckle of pork (a bit pale in the picture) was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Just what you'd want. It lacked a bit of seasoning, but salt and pepper were on the table. From my stays in Bavaria, I'm used to mustard being served with a knuckle of pork or having it on the table. That's not the case here, and it probably has to be ordered separately. The bread dumplings were delicious. All in all, everything was perfect here, and I'd be happy to come back. A note about the restrooms. If you're going to put a cleaner in front of the restrooms with a plate for tips (?), you'd expect the facilities to be clean. That wasn't the case here; the restrooms were dirty, and some were missing supplies (toilet paper). There's still room for improvement here!

Food quality was average and the place was quite noisy but the service was very fast. Plus I had a great experience thanks to our waitress, Jasmine, who took care of my food intolerance and made sure everything worked smoothly. A rustic Bavarian inn in the heart of Berlin – you'll immediately feel welcome here. The atmosphere is lively, the wooden interior is cozy, and the service is friendly and attentive. The Augustiner beers are excellent on tap, and the typical Bavarian dishes are served fresh and plentiful. An ideal place to enjoy a Berlin evening with a genuine German beer and hearty cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience a piece of Bavaria in the heart of Berlin!

The food wasn't bad. They charged us a pretty penny for drinks: a tap Coca-Cola cost 5 euros and a bottle of water cost 8.5 euros. They also ordered some beers from the menu that weren't available because, according to them, it was Oktoberfest. In short, the beer was more expensive than the one ordered on the menu and the taste was horrible. On the other hand, the waiter was very rudely berating us because we didn't want to leave a tip. Add to that, before trying to give us the receipt, he was directly using the credit card so we couldn't see the charges. In short, an experience with terrible service that tries to deceive tourists. I recommend proceeding with great caution.

If you're a Spanish speaker, I don't recommend it. It's the most racist place in Mitte. They tried to trick us with the prices and with card payments. The waiter was super rude and made fun of us for being Spanish, even though we spoke German.

In my opinion, the most authentic and best Bavarian restaurant in Berling. The Helles and Edelstoff beer were very good on tap, the Backhändl (Backhändl) was crispy and juicy, and the Obatzte (Obatzte) was round with enough bread but too few onions. The service was witty, warm, and quick. The ambiance was also perfect. I'd gladly go back.

If you want Bavarian food, this is the place to go. Prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. Unfortunately, the apple strudel was cold. The service was also prompt and friendly. We were there as a group. One caveat: there's a smaller lunch menu for groups.
