Das Essen ist jedes Mal hervorragend – qualitativ hochwertig, frisch und geschmacklich einfach top. Auch der Service ist stets freundlich, aufmerksam und herzlich. Manchmal muss man zwar etwas länger auf das Essen warten, aber die Qualität macht das wieder wett. Beim Ambiente gibt es noch etwas Verbesserungspotenzial, besonders im Außenbereich. Mit einer gemütlicheren Gestaltung könnte man den schönen Standort noch besser zur Geltung bringen. Insgesamt sind wir aber sehr zufrieden und können das Restaurant uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!

Wir haben unsere Hochzeitsfeier im Restaurant Schiffenberg gefeiert und waren rundum begeistert. Von der Planung bis zur Durchführung hat alles hervorragend funktioniert. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet, der Service aufmerksam und freundlich und auch unsere Gäste haben sich sehr wohlgefühlt. Besonders geschätzt haben wir die unkomplizierte Kommunikation und die Unterstützung bei allen Fragen im Vorfeld. Der Service ist sehr sympathisch, das Ambiente sowohl drinnen als auch draußen im Sommer sehr schön. Das Essen ist etwas teurer, aber es ist absolut Wert. Sie bieten je nach Saison auch gerne Mal andere Getränke und Speisen an. Diese wirken immer sehr bedacht in ihrer Komposition - visuell und geschmacklich. Vor allem vom selbstgemachten Lavendeleis, das sie im Frühjahr mit Creme Brulee serviert haben, schwärme ich noch heute. Da zahle ich gerne mehr und nehme mir dazu noch Vor- und Nachspeise. Das einzige, was ich etwas seltsam finde, ist das Menü-Angebot (Vor-, Haupt- und Nachspeise für ungefähr 48€). Man muss vorher ankündigen, dass man das Menü haben will. Das liegt dran, dass die servierten Portionen dann etwas kleiner sind. Nett für den Magen, aber seltsam, da je nach Auswahl man nicht einmal Geld einspart mit dem Menü. Es steht auch nicht auf der Karte, dass die Portionen kleiner sind. Deswegen ein Stern Abzug im Service.

Kloster Schiffenberg ist immer wieder ein Ausflug wert. Die Atmosphäre ist toll, vor allem bei Veranstaltungen. Jede Menge Wanderwege laden zum Laufen ein. Das Essen ist gut, wenn auch im höheren Preissekment. Ein toller Blick bei schönem Wetter bis nach Frankfurt rundet alles ab.

Wir hatten eine Klassentreffen unserer Relaschule Gießen Jahrgang 49/50. Wir waren 14 Personen und sassen separat. Durch die Anwesenheit von einer grösseren Zahl von Leuten, bekamen wir eine Karte, die 5 verschiedene Gerichte hatte. Ich wählte ein Wiener Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat. Meine Erwartung war gross, zumal ich die Aura des Küchenchef's gelesen hatte. Kalbsschnitzel war dünn, richtig paniert, jedoch ohne jegliche Würzung. Der Kartoffelsalat kam in recht grosser Portion daher. Kartoffel geschnitten und darüber dann Gurkenscheiben, die etwas Marinade hatten. Der Salat war nicht zusammen angemacht...Kartoffel und Gurken..d.h. durchgezogen, schlotzig wie er sein sollte. Auch dort fehlte die Würzung. Ich habe nachgesalzen und gepfeffert. Der Service sehr, sehr nett und aufmerksam, diesen kann ich loben. Ach ja, mein Apfelwein..gespritzt..war recht lau, nicht kalt . Stand vielleicht etwas zu lange ausserhalb der Kühlung.!!! Das Treffen war schön und die Gegend Schiffenberg ist zu empfehlen.

Das Ambiente im Restaurant ist echt toll und hat seinen Charakter gut umgesetzt Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und nett Das Essen qualitativ sehr gut,was uns nur nicht gefallen hat war der der Gruß aus der Küche zeitgleich mit dem.Hauptgericht kam und so schnell,das man da sich doch fragt war es frisch zubereitet,was wohl eher nicht der Fall war,denn die Bratkartoffeln war sehr weich ,nicht knusprig angebraten obwohl braun und der Bellschuh warm,aber hat gut geschmeckt Werden bestimmt wieder mal kommen

Wir waren heute Abend auf dem Kloster Schiffenberg Restaurant essen und sind begeistert. Das Essen war köstlich, reichlich und nett angerichtet. Besonders hervorzuheben ist auch der Service: Die Mitarbeiter waren professionell, freundlich und sehr bemüht. Man fühlt sich als Gast wirklich willkommen. Wir können dieses Restaurant uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen und werden ganz sicher immer wieder gerne dort essen gehen.. ...

Sehr gutes Essen, freundliches Personal, lediglich die Wartezeiten waren etwas lang.

Bei den gehobenen Essenspreisen hatte ich etwas anderes erwartet. Wir waren mit einer Gesellschaft von 20 Personen dort. Erstmal hat es ewig gedauert, bis überhaupt die Essensbestellungen aufgenommen wurden. Dann hat es nochmal ziemlich lang gedauert, bis das Essen kam. Manche Portionsgrößen waren in Ordnung (Schnitzel, Klosterschippe), bei den Kaasknödeln allerdings habe ich mich gefragt, ob das nicht eher eine Vorspeise ist. 3 kleine Knödelchen mit ein paar Blättern Spinat. Davon wird niemand satt. Die Beilagensalate kamen erst, als die ersten Hauptgerichte schon verspeist waren. Hier ist bei der Organisation etwas gewaltig schief gelaufen. Bei Essenspreisen von bis zu 35 € und auch gehobenen Getränkepreisen erwarte ich schon, dass zumindest der Salat pünktlich zum Essen gereicht wird. Zwei Stunden zwischen Ankunft und Essen warten zu müssen, finde ich auch nicht gerade optimal. Die Qualität des Essens war wirklich gut, hier kann man nicht meckern. Der Service war freundlich und angenehm. Aber organisatorisch ist definitiv Luft nach oben. Und auch der anhaltende Lärm aus der Küche vom Schnitzelklopfen war nicht unbedingt angenehm.

Bin wirklich angetan und möchte gerne wieder dorthin, der Teller spricht für sich selbst

Wir waren über viele Jahre sehr gerne Gäste im Kloster Schiffenberg. Es war für uns sogar eine feste Adventstradition, dort gemeinsam mit meinen Eltern zum Gans Essen hinzugehen. Umso enttäuschender war unser letzter Besuch am zweiten Weihnachtsfeiertag. Meine Mutter hatte morgens spontan angerufen und gefragt, ob eventuell ein Tisch für vier Personen frei geworden sei, was bejaht wurde. Vor Ort erfuhren wir dann, dass es ausschließlich ein festgelegtes Weihnachtsmenü gibt. Der Kellner, das möchte ich ausdrücklich betonen, war die ganze Zeit sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und äußerst bemüht. Beim Blick auf das Menü stellte sich jedoch schnell heraus, dass es für mich als Vegetarierin praktisch keine passende Option gab: Zwei Fleischgerichte (Ente und Rind), ein Fischgericht und als einzige vegetarische Variante ein Salat – bei minus fünf Grad Außentemperatur an Weihnachten aus meiner Sicht mehr als unpassend. Auf Nachfrage nach Alternativen wurde auf die Kinderkarte verwiesen, mit Pasta mit Tomatensauce oder Chicken Nuggets. Allerdings hieß es nach Rücksprache mit dem Chef, dass selbst für ein Kindergericht der volle Menüpreis von 50 € berechnet werden müsse. Wohl gemerkt gab es im Menü als Vorspeise entweder eine Entenbrühe (als Vegetarier wieder nicht möglich) oder ein (ebenfalls kaltes) Bete Carpaccio. Ich fragte daraufhin, ob es möglich wäre, ohne Menü einfach Knödel mit Soße zu bekommen, da diese ohnehin als Beilage zu anderen Gerichten angeboten wurden. Auch hier wurde mir mitgeteilt, dass dies aus Kalkulationsgründen ebenfalls nur zum Menüpreis von 50 € möglich sei. An dieser Stelle stellte sich für mich ernsthaft die Frage, wie man dann mit tatsächlichen Kindern umgeht. Oder ob ein Gast, der Knödel nachbestellt, ebenfalls dafür 50 € zahlen müsste. Dieses Vorgehen empfand ich als absolut Gastunfreundlich. Für 50 € Nudeln mit Tomatensauce oder Knödel mit Soße zu berechnen, war für mich schlicht nicht akzeptabel. Dass der Chef keinerlei Entgegenkommen oder Lösung angeboten hat, habe ich so in noch keinem anderen Restaurant erlebt. Ich habe selbst lange in der Gastro gearbeitet und wir haben immer versucht, dem Gast bestmöglich entgegen zu kommen. Zusätzlich wurde uns gesagt, man habe telefonisch sowie auf der Homepage darauf hingewiesen, dass es an Weihnachten ausschließlich ein festes Menü gibt. Das kann ich so nicht bestätigen. Am Telefon wurde nichts erwähnt und auf der Website findet sich dieser Hinweis lediglich am unteren Rand. Öffnet man die Seite mobil, sieht man zunächst die reguläre Speisekarte (gültig ab 7.11.), ohne jeden Hinweis auf eine Weihnachts-Sonderregelung. Danach die Getränkekarte und erst nach dem Scrollen die Weihnachtskarte. Die meisten Menschen scrollen aber gar nicht erst, da die Speisekarte ja direkt als Erstes angezeigt wird. Am Ende sind mein Mann und ich gegangen. Der Tisch wurde statt mit vier nur mit zwei Personen besetzt. Mein Mann hätte das reguläre Menü gegessen, ich eine einfache vegetarische Alternative, so wären zusätzlicher Umsatz und zufriedene Gäste entstanden. Stattdessen gingen dem Restaurant nicht nur rund 80–90 € Umsatz inklusive Getränke verloren, sondern auch wir als langjährige Gäste. Für uns war das leider der letzte Besuch im Kloster Schiffenberg. Sehr schade, denn der Service war äußerst freundlich, aber Konzept, Kommunikation und fehlende Flexibilität haben diesen Eindruck vollständig überschattet.

Tolles Ambiente, Super Personal, tolles Essen, Preis absolut in Ordnung. Empfehlung.

Very cozy, good food and friendly staff. We were there for a birthday party, so I can't say exactly how much it cost, but it was definitely worth every penny.

As every year, a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Great decorations and very tasty regional offerings in the outdoor area.

Our family visited Schiffenberg Monastery on Sunday and were absolutely delighted. The atmosphere was fantastic – a beautiful Christmas market, tastefully decorated, and superbly organized. The team on site was consistently friendly and attentive. Excellent service. The prices are family-friendly and completely fair! The waffle was amazing – fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The mulled wine was superb. A big thank you to the entire team. We'd love to come back again.

We used the two rooms on the upper floor for an event with a lecture followed by dinner for about 40 people. The rooms were perfectly suited, the service attentive and friendly, and the food very good.

The food is prepared with attention to detail. The service is quick and professional. A truly excellent restaurant that is well worth the price. We will gladly return.

Three customers, one very disappointed with the 37 Euro degustation sized venison rip off dish advertised as a main. The dish was described as a piece of leg and back. A single piece of meat arrived the size of an egg (no exaggeration) surrounded by a thin round of celeriac purée, some 8 celeriac cubes smaller than dice, drops of blackberry juice and a few pistachios (6 or so) a teaspoon of pistachio puree and dust and admittedly a tasty sauce - but for 37 Euro’s this was very expensive and not a main meal and not worth 37 Euro’s. The other meals were proper mains.

The restaurant at Schiffenberg Monastery is definitely worth a visit. The ambiance is wonderful. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and definitely worth it for what you get. The portions are very generous, and you'll be filling. The service was always friendly. The selection of homemade liqueurs is also delicious.

Nice for a walk and soaking up the sun, the climbing garden is also recommended.

Yesterday afternoon, August 7, 2025, I visited the outdoor dining area of Schiffenberg Monastery with my wife and dog, the first time in about 10 years that I've ever been in the area. Naturally, we wanted to stop for coffee and cake outside in the nice weather. What can I say? Each piece was an unspeakably tiny piece of cheesecake and cherry crumble on a cardboard lid, served with a miserable wooden fork. That was the worst cake I've tried in the last 25 years. Coffee was served in a paper cup. No dishes, no tablet, no napkin. By the way, since I'm a pastry chef, I can judge the cake. Never ever!!! I hope with all my heart that the outdoor dining issue will be resolved through a vote of confidence. You can only go there when the weather's nice, have a beer or cider, and that's it.

#lunchtester Schiffenberg Monastery Pleasant, unusual ambiance. Attentive staff. My friend Hannelörchen had veal leather with mashed potatoes and fried onions. Delicious. I had Klosterschöppe (pork loin with roasted dried beef and mushrooms, served with noodles and salad). Delicious As a welcome from the kitchen, we were served fresh bread with tomato butter and pesto.

Very tasty food, absolutely reasonable value for money. Great service! We'll be happy to come back.

We've visited the Schiffenberg Restaurant several times and were impressed by the consistently excellent food. German cuisine in a medieval monastery complex – many classic dishes of good quality. The service was very attentive and friendly on each of our visits; I highly recommend it. I would also like to highlight the Valentine's Day menu this year (2025). The menu and the entire evening were very well thought out. The food was truly excellent (!!!), and the many small details at the table (decorations, "love potion," etc.) were so lovingly prepared. We were thrilled and hope there will be another menu like this next year. Otherwise, we always enjoy coming back to the Schiffenberg Restaurant.

A nice surprise. As regular travelers to and through Germany we have quite low expectations regarding food (sorry to my German friends 😉), especially on a Sunday evening supper stopover traveling on the motorway from Frankfurt to Bautzen. We drove a few kilometers away from the motorway and arrived in another world: a beautiful ancient monastery, on top of a small mountain and a restaurant… that cooks. And how ! Dishes are original, elaborated, very fresh, well presented and … amazingly good. The herb soup was divine, so was the pork belly revisited with asiatic-like flavors. We enjoyed the dinner on a beautiful terrace, apparently known by locals. By far our best experience of a non-planned meal while transiting in an unknown region in Germany. Bravo !!!

We've eaten at the monastery several times, but today we were truly disappointed. The food was delicious, the service staff friendly. But: I specifically asked if bread was served with the salad. "Yes, of course," the server said. However, the salad was served without bread; since the service staff were completely overwhelmed today, there wasn't a chance to ask. Our group's main courses were served 15 minutes late, so we couldn't eat together. We waited over 30 minutes for a drink we ordered. Meanwhile, the owners sat at the next table and watched the understaffed service staff rushing around in 35°C heat and completely overwhelmed. A good manager would have stepped in. Very unpleasant. We won't be coming back anytime soon.

Good German food. The interior is pleasantly cool in the summer. There's a large terrace and live music during the summer concert season.

So actually, everything's good. The ambiance and food are top-notch, but the service is poor (waiting times are too long).

The food is supposed to be extravagant and looks beautiful, but unfortunately, the taste isn't as good as it looks. In my opinion, the salad dressing is either from a bucket or very poorly made, and the 'Bellschuh' sauce was completely overpowering in flavor (I don't know how to describe it better). The wait for the food was also very long. For the prices, I would have expected more. The staff, however, was super nice, which is also the reason for the 3 star. Without the friendly service, it would only be 2 stars.

Very friendly and accommodating staff, from the phone reservation, which was immediately confirmed by email, to the truly delicious food in a fine atmosphere! We'll be sitting outside tonight. I'm looking forward to it...

Super super super 👍🏽 Reserved a table online and already stated that a guest can only eat gluten-free. A week after dinner, an email came asking what the guest would like to eat gluten-free so that we could possibly prepare it. Even the starter was served with gluten-free bread and the waitress wore disposable gloves to avoid contamination. The gluten-free main course was great and the Klosterschüppe was also very, very tasty. All in all a very nice evening. Many thanks to the gastro team 👏🏽

I was there for dinner with my girlfriend. We had a free-range pork schnitzel with fries, a small salad and cream sauce and a Viennese schnitzel with fried potatoes, a small salad and fresh cranberries. The meal was a treat for the taste buds from start to finish. It's rare to get such good food served. The prices were right for the very tasty taste of the food and the large portion. The location and the very nice staff also make you feel super comfortable. We're always happy to come back!

We had dinner in the restaurant with 6 people on a Sunday evening. The acoustics are rather poor for a longer table, but we liked the look of it. We got drinks quickly and then had to wait forever with the menu in hand until our order was taken. We waited a total of 1 1/2 hours until dinner. Definitely too long! The dishes were beautifully presented, but all the sauces for the schnitzel were too salty. Otherwise the schnitzels were very tasty, but a bit small. The spinach dumplings were far too expensive for what you got and the expected salad was limited to decoration on the plate. Overall, we enjoyed everything quite well, but for the price you should expect a little more. We've eaten there a few times before and have always been very satisfied. This time, however, things have slowed down a bit overall.

Beautiful, varied landscape and very beautiful monastery complex

As part of a festive birthday party, we took the opportunity to stop at this establishment for lunch. To our astonishment, we were initially presented with a very shortened menu. After some expressions of dissatisfaction were raised about the fact that the entire menu was available at neighboring tables, the staff reluctantly gave in and pointed out that the kitchen was supposedly overloaded, which was also supposedly caused by absences due to illness. The Wiener Schnitzel I served turned out to be quite acceptable, but my companion's salad contained mushrooms with remains of soil still attached to the stems, and the César dressing had unfortunately already been used up. Apart from the assurance that the unclean mushrooms would be reported to the kitchen, the staff made no effort to make amends, for example by offering a schnapps or coffee, which would actually be in keeping with the customs of a good establishment. What should be emphasized, however, is that the ladies in the service staff often asked about our drink requests and fulfilled them promptly. Although I generally like this establishment very much and always enjoy visiting it, the experience described leaves a touch of uncertainty about future visits. Such an incident leaves me with regret and thoughtful hesitation as to whether I will avail myself of the hospitality facilities of this establishment again in the near future. Not even a negative review is addressed. That alone shows the ignorance. At least I made sure that the family didn't go to the Easter brunch this time (which was overpriced for what was on offer).

Today we sat relaxed in the beer garden with the boys. The first wheat was amazing and the sun shone on us. Unfortunately the second wheat was served in a beer glass as there were not enough wheat glasses available. You lose the fun and the taste - hence deductions in the B grade...still had a nice day in the sun with the boys. Gladly again!

Very good food, large portions and still everything fresh, tasty and without convenience, great chef. Very nice and attentive service even though the restaurant was full. We were pleasantly surprised and the visit was worth every cent.

We were able to attend a wedding in the Kloster Schiffenberg restaurant and were completely thrilled! The service and food were fantastic, and the interior of the venue is very stylish and cozy. What we particularly like about the location is the overall concept that the bride and groom are offered here. The wedding can take place entirely in one location - from the wedding ceremony in the beautiful basilica to the bride and groom shoot in the beautiful natural setting with a breathtaking view. Children can also play safely and quietly in the traffic-calmed courtyard. A perfect location for an unforgettable wedding!

I was a little disappointed on my second visit. I had chosen the monastery menu, with pork loin, like on my first visit. Unfortunately, it was no longer of the same quality as before. The delicious sauce with red wine was missing. The portion of mushrooms was also manageable. I had the impression that the little sauce was thickened with a ready-made powder. The loin was also very spongy. All in all, I had the impression that this meal was cooked under time pressure. Should have eaten better at home. The salad was also very carelessly prepared. I'm sorry, but I had to get rid of it once. I hope you continue to have many guests who are not as demanding as me. For me, €24.0 is a lot of money. I would have prepared a delicious meal for my friends. Best regards

We actually wanted to go to the restaurant in the former monastery in the late afternoon. However, at that time there was only coffee and cake. We ordered a Kaiserschmarren with plums, which was delicious. Since we liked it so much, we actually went back in the evening and were not disappointed. The service was super friendly and attentive and the bartender's self-created cocktails are absolutely great! The food was very tasty and exactly as hoped. Clear recommendation!

Absolutely disappointing Food didn't come as ordered. We had to wait more than 30 minutes for drinks. Changing the supplement costs €1.50. But it is not mentioned anywhere. Food tasted ok. Everyone gets a second chance. Went there today for the Christmas menu. Ambience great. Service ok. Food disappointing. Very long waiting time. Too bad

Cozy and stylish ambience in a medieval monastery complex. Very friendly and pleasant service. Went there for Christmas dinner with a larger group. The food was very tasty, we had all pre-ordered classic roast goose with side dishes and were really satisfied. Price-performance is generally appropriate. Large parking lot right near the monastery, about 5 minutes on foot. I think most of our group would like to come back!

Were here for the second time within a short period of time. Absolutely recommended. 👍 So far all the dishes have been very tasty, whether goose, fillet of straw pig or bark shoe. The dessert was also great - Kaiserschmarrn and tiramisu. Perfect and nice service. During the Christmas season it is worth stopping off in the 🎅Winterwaldchen 🌲🌟

Always great concerts in this atmosphere

We were there for the cultural summer to the concert by Insomnium and Amon Amarth. A great location, food and drink was good, although the price was on the higher side. Toilets were great. Shuttle buses and everything was very well organized. We'll be there again next year for the right bands.
