On Friday evening we were guests with five people and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food was exceptionally tasty and we felt well looked after right from the start. We would particularly like to highlight Mr. Pavel, who served us with great friendliness and attentiveness. Since we arrived shortly before the kitchen closed, he even came to us personally to ensure that our wishes could be prepared smoothly. We really enjoyed the evening and would like to thank you very much for the excellent service. We'll definitely be back!

Absolutely one of the most pleasant restaurants I have had the pleasure of experiencing in Hamburg so far! We were here with 4 adults and two children. We were warmly welcomed and the children (4 and 7) in particular were treated openly. The atmosphere is very cozy and a bit dim. There were coloring books and puzzle books for the children. The waitresses were super friendly and always available for a little chat. The food was home-style and of course focused on potatoes. Delicious. You could taste that they cook with love here. The portions were absolutely sufficient. We didn't find any special children's dishes on the menu, but we didn't ask about them either, perhaps something would have been possible. All in all, an outstandingly pleasant restaurant experience. We'll be back.

I think it was okay but it is overhyped. I was expecting that each dish would just be made of potatoes (as advertised) but it more a "each dish has some potatoes ". There was also confusion when we ordered as in fact it was brought back something we didn't ordered. What we originally asked was not available 。So we changed to something else but yet got got something different again. In all this, with the wait, there was a big expectancy to leave a tip which we didn't feel right to give. If you want to go, go, but it is not as good as it is hyped about.

Last night we had dinner in the potato cellar. We were there about 45 minutes before our reservation, asked if we could come in and were warmly welcomed. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy and the food (I had the potato pancakes with salmon and horseradish, my husband had the sour meat with fried potatoes) was also very tasty. Only the fried potatoes had room for improvement, says my husband. The service was the best part of the evening. Typical Hamburg snout and great humor. However, you have to be able to deal with it. Please never change. For me a real original! We'd love to come back.

We made a spontaneous, short-term reservation online between Christmas and New Year and did not receive an email confirmation. When we arrived, we were asked about the reservation - "Yes, we have reserved, but we haven't received any confirmation yet" - We were then told in an extremely bitchy manner by a lady that we didn't reserve even if we hadn't received any confirmation - The reservation system (and the personal reception) still has room for improvement. But we still found space, the waiter was "amazing" and basically ran the place by himself - and yet everyone was always served and taken into consideration. The food was exactly what we expected and the portions were huge. We can happily recommend the potato cellar, but next time we would definitely call ahead and not rely on the online “reservation system”.

Today I ate Burger XXL with a friend. It tasted good but the meat was still raw in the middle. And why does the menu say “fried potatoes” instead of fried potatoes? If you get fries, write fries rather than fried “fried potatoes”.

I'm writing this review because I'm still in shock at how my mother was treated at this restaurant. She is a single parent and worked hard to ensure we had a lovely evening. It was a big deal for them to invite us here, even though the budget was tight. In the end she tipped €1.50 - more was simply not possible. However, the waiter returned the money and said that you shouldn't go out to eat if you can't afford a tip. This statement was incredibly condescending and disrespectful. My mother felt very bad, even though she only wanted the best for us. The food was okay, but this treatment is absolutely unacceptable. No one should have to feel like they are treated like this in a restaurant. I hope management will think about how to treat guests and show more respect in the future.

Nourriture correcte, assiettes bien remplies, mais si la commande est prise en 5 minutes , on a attendu plus de 20 minutes avant d'avoir nos assiettes ! Il était 15h à notre arrivée et quasiment 16h à notre départ, alors qu'on n'avait pris qu'un plat ! Le personnel qui nous a encaissé a exigé de l'argent pour le service en nous disant à 2 reprises que le service n'était pas inclu dans l'addition ( 20€ par plat, Burger ou Labskaus) et 7.99€ pour une bouteille d'eau de 75 cl!! - pas eu de choix). Le peu que j'ai laissé ne lui a pas suffit, et il a commencé à se lamenter...(Les Français....😭). Or il ne s'agit que de pourboire et si le service n'est pas à la hauteur, on n'en laisse pas !

We spontaneously went to the potato cellar to eat the great Lapskaus. It was wonderful again in the vaulted cellar and the Lapskaus was very tasty 😋 We are already looking forward to further visits in 2025 🙋🏼‍♂️🙋‍♀️

Wir waren zu dritt hier an einem Sonntag Abend. Wir haben den Grünkohl und den Grünkohlauflauf gegessen und der war sehr lecker. Die Bratkartoffeln zum Grünkohl waren sehr kross, wie ich es mag, Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.

We were here last weekend, once for coffee and lunch and once for dinner. The food was great, classic German and well prepared. We were helped by a lovely entusiastic waitress and it was one of the highlights of our trip. If you encounter said waitress, be sure to order a hot cocoa with Bailey's, it will make her day!

The food was super tasty, but we also had the feeling (as mentioned here several times) that they wanted to get rid of us quickly. We knew that the table would only be available for us for 1 hour without a reservation, but that's no reason to intercept someone on the way from the toilet and ask what they wanted to eat - at least being able to take a quick look at the menu would have been great . Plus, it's absurd to look at our plates every 5 minutes to see if we're done yet. In the end, my half-full glass was cleared away after just 45 minutes, cashed in and goodbye 🫠 We didn't leave a tip, I've rarely eaten so stressed.

The food was great, but the service was even worse. We were made to feel unwelcome and that we had to hurry up to eat. Direct feedback will only be responded to with a “thank you” instead of an apology. We felt very uncomfortable.

Can't keep what it promises. Our food arrived at the table very late and more cold than warm. It didn't taste like shit, but it wasn't really anything special... It was incredibly hot in the place. Overall, our group didn't like it here. It's an impudence to the power of a thousand how they react to legitimate criticism here. As a restaurateur, you have to be able to tolerate it if guests don't like something.

Wir hatten uns so auf den Kartoffelkeller gefreut. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Daran gab es nichts auszusetzen. Das Essen dagegen nicht. Die Scholle war totgebraten ( aus der Friteuse?) und geschmacklich fast neutral. Das Fischfleisch sah gelblich, bräunlich aus. Ich konnte es nicht essen. Die Bratkartoffeln völlig überflutet. Habe stundenlang Magendrücken gehabt. Das Gericht meines Mannes (Schweinemedaillons) war ähnlich. Fleisch total durchgebraten, trocken und nichtssagend. Die Matjes waren ok, jedoch nicht frisch, sondern vorgefertigt aus Eimern?! Schade, der Kartoffelkeller war einmal so toll. Wir würden nicht wieder hingehen.

We went to the potato cellar twice and thought it was wonderful. The ambience, food and our waiter + owner - simply nice, funny and warm. We had a really great place and were able to sit there again this evening. Thank you for these two lovely evenings with you. We had pan fish, Bernese Rösti, pork medallions and schnitzel to eat. My highlight today: Homemade red jelly with vanilla ice cream. Simply wonderful. ❤️

Very nice shop with great staff and great food! Potato is definitely the culinary center here! And you notice it and you taste it. The spinach casserole is highly recommended, as is the house wine! Ein richtig urchiges Hamburger Lokal. Obwohl man in den Keller absteigt ist es im Restaurant relativ geräumig und wirklich sehr gemütlich. Wir haben fein gegessen und die Bedienung war sehr nett. Und hat Eagles rundum gut gefallen.

At 4:30 p.m. on a Monday with rainy weather everything was supposedly fully booked, no table left for one person, only with reservation, you are intercepted by the smoking waiter at the staircase in front of the door to the restaurant, what a shame!

Cozy, very well organized restaurant, friendly, funny and attentive waiters, great food and reasonable prices. Well, it's a little dark to decipher the menu, but you can solve it with your cell phone flashlight. We were very satisfied!

Reservations can be made today at 8:00 PM at the Kartoffelkeller. Ordered starter and main course. Starter came (large portion) and before we finished it, the main course was already next to us. Shame about the food, it went way too fast. At 8:45 PM everything was gone. After drinking our wine and water, we wanted to order another espresso at 9:15 PM, but unfortunately the coffee machine was already off!

The food is delicious, the prices are completely reasonable for Hamburg Hafen. Service is very friendly. All in all a recommendation.

Anyone who likes home-style German cuisine will love the potato cellar. A very rustic atmosphere in the cellar and you should definitely make a reservation. The request is very large. We were really looking forward to visiting the restaurant and were unfortunately disappointed. Salad and drinks were ok, but the main course, beef oulade with red cabbage and boiled potatoes, unfortunately came to the table cold. In addition, the potatoes were not salted. Seems to be a coordination problem, the table next door waited 20 minutes for their drinks. The waiter smelled unpleasantly of cigarette smoke and indirectly urged us to tip. We won't come back here. Too bad.

They recommended we share typical local fish for two. Fish with salad. A disaster. There were only herrings: two smoked, two pickled with pickles and two fried that had been moistened with the salad sauces (very dense tartar and beetroot). The potato cake with soft and natural applesauce. The attention, very good.

Leider nicht zu empfehlen. Ich hatte den Bauernschmaus bestellt. Speck fehlte komplett, das Omlett bestand lediglich aus viel zu dicken ungewürzten Kartoffelscheiben und ebenso ungewürzten gestockten Eiern. Dafür 16,66,- €.

In my personal opinion, it was an average experience. The atmosphere is rustic (but far too warm), the service is friendly, and the food - and that's the main focus - wasn't convincing. The burger meat tasted like it was from the fridge, the spare ribs were dry. You can do this better at home; Hamburg has nicer restaurants.

Highly recommended! From the diverse selection to the friendly hospitality, you can relax comfortably in the potato cellar. Many flavors are represented, including Angus burgers and Indian spiced meats. However, the “Wiener Style” schnitzel has proven to be my favorite dish. I'm looking forward to visiting there again!

We made a reservation on Sunday October 6th. The food and the ambience are really good, but the best thing about the evening was Parvel, our waiter. Totally technically competent and a good dose of humor and wit. Thank you Parvel, you made the evening really perfect. Keep it up and see you next time.

Nice atmosphere in the cellar vault, a little more lighting would be nice. Reading the menu only by candlelight is not easy. The service was top and the food was also delicious.

The potato cellar is centrally located in Hamburg Mitte, very idyllically located in the old town. That's why the interior rooms are visually beautifully furnished - but of course they are rather small and narrow and rather dark, but still very comfortable. There is also a small outdoor area. The service was friendly and competent. The menu is manageable. It tasted very good, reasonable portions and a fair price/performance ratio.

The potato cellar has been a frequent stop on our city trips to Hamburg in recent years. This year we reserved a table again... unfortunately this time we were very disappointed. The taste of the food was no longer what it was three years ago... the meat on the spare ribs was very, very dry, the burger also tasted like a lot of ready-made ingredients and the salad wasn't convincing either. We also sat on the upper floor, which in our opinion was far too crowded, far too many tables in a small space: our neighboring table had to get up so we could walk through and sit down. So that our other neighboring table could move, we had to move the table a little because the distance between the individual tables was so small. What should be highlighted positively, however, is the service, the man that evening was very attentive, funny and friendly and really did a great job. All in all, we had the feeling that the potato cellar wanted to accommodate as many customers as possible in the shortest possible time, which unfortunately negatively affected the quality of the food and the feel-good factor for us. It's a shame :(

Restaurant very dark upstairs, nice view downstairs but narrow and constant loud roaring as if pumps were running. You get the impression that the staff wants to have tables free again quickly.

Unfortunately we didn't feel comfortable. Roaring noise in the Essen Empire was very disturbing. Service was very careful to ensure that you leave quickly. Unfortunately the seats were very tight. Unfortunately, this was a case of ripping off tourists, as it was so close to the Speicherstadt. Not recommended!

I am very disappointed. I've been there again and again for more than 10 years. The waiters used to walk around in potato sacks and the menu was all about potatoes. Today it is more of a standard restaurant with potatoes as a side dish. The facilities are the same as many years ago. The chairs don't even have seat cushions and are therefore quite hard/uncomfortable. Doesn't invite you to linger. The food also went down a lot. My meat was dry and the fried potatoes were warmed up. I would say they were on a tray in the oven. A spoonful of bacon was placed next to the fried potatoes. My wife had potatoes gratinated with spinach. The cheese was very tasty, the rest unseasoned and path. There doesn't seem to be any salt in the kitchen. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for a table that wasn't in the aisle. When we arrived, the table assigned to us was still occupied. We then wanted to go outside the door for another 10 minutes, but the waiter wasn't interested. We were then seated at a table for two in the gallery. It was warm and extremely loud there. You were also hemmed in by the other tables. When someone was supposed to sit at the table behind us, I had to stand up during the meal and let them through. The main course came while we were still eating the starter. We then skipped dessert. There was hardly anyone there to order from anyway. My conclusion: We won't go there again. I can also get the special things that were there in any other restaurant.

This time an absolutely disappointing evening: It started when we ordered a table for 11 people...but had to squeeze into one for 10. After some discussion we were divided into two tables. Well, yes. It can also happen that other tables received their dishes even though they ordered after us. Unfortunately, the food was catastrophic: the fried potatoes were tasteless and fried or cooked in oil...even the salt didn't stick. The salad was dressing-free and the fish was also quite dry. Oh yes, dear boss, How do you know that the others had nothing to complain about? Rest assured, the majority of our group had something to complain about. One of our group has been working in the catering industry for almost 30 years and then sought out a conversation with the chef...I'll spare you the details here in public.

Small, inconspicuous, somewhat hidden restaurant, at first you might think it was closed, until you discover that you have to take the potato cellar literally. The restaurant can actually be entered via the cellar entrance, there are many delicious dishes from fish to burgers for everyone and, as the name suggests, you can also get potatoes in all variations We liked it and would happily recommend it

This was our second time at the potato cellar and we were served by Pavel both times. The potato cellar is totally rustic, cozy and dark. You feel comfortable from the first second. Pavel is totally friendly, very accommodating and pleasant! We ate burgers and schnitzel, and last time we also had potato pancakes. Everything tastes really, really good and the prices are absolutely reasonable for the location and quality in Hamburg. The fried potatoes are our personal highlight - really uniquely delicious! A reservation is definitely recommended, it's always busy, but it's easy to do via the homepage. Then a digestive walk to the Elbphilharmonie and it's a perfect evening! We would be happy to come back any time!

Fried potatoes are pre-cooked and then fried again when ordered, making them very dry. My herring was very "hard" and the tail fin was still attached. Wasn't that tasty.

The food was very tasty, we each had roast beef with fried potatoes, the taste of both was very, very tasty and the fried potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and soft on the inside. Wir haben hier gestern Nachmittah gemeinsam mit Freunden gegessen. Wir haben Kartoffelsuppe, Schnitzel, Omelett, Medaillons.... gegessen. Es war auch kein Problem Gerichte ins vegetarische umzuwandeln. Das Essen war sehr lecker nur die Medaillons waren ein tick zu lange in der Pfanne... Ansonsten ist das Restaurant sehr schön eingerichtet und hinten gibt es einen schönen Blick aufs Wasser. Die Kellner waren sehr aufmerksam und insbesondere Rassim hatte immer einen lustigen Spruch auf den Lippen und war überaus zuvorkommend! Wir kommen immer gerne wieder!

All of a sudden it started to rain very hard and we couldn't be there, despite the fact that we were under a large awning. Mr. Rasim, has invited us to take refuge inside the premises, going down the stairs and... oh! wonder! we were inside a cozy, romantic and beautiful place, a basement or cave decorated with curious objects, full of tables, benches and chairs, all well prepared to receive those who want to eat well and spend a pleasant evening, in the dim light some candles This man, Rasim, is extraordinarily kind and funny. He served us a delicious dinner and gave us an unforgettable time. We are very grateful to him. The best Rouladen in Hamburg is surely eaten here.

A little tip in advance, a reservation in advance can't hurt. The restaurant is really very popular. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that a written reservation with a request will help you get a nice table for a special evening. We've eaten here many times, but each time we're less impressed. On our last visit we got strange fanta. On the one hand, the glasses, even at other tables, are generally served well below the calibration mark, and on the other hand, the Fanta had very little carbonation and I was able to see through it completely. The Fanta was very clear and didn't taste like anything. Of course I complained about the drink, but the same transparent liquid came back. Whatever was served, far away from Fanta. Not funny at a liter price of almost 13 euros. If I then take into account that the glasses come to the table a good 1.5cm below the calibration mark, the price becomes significantly higher. The reserved table was for 2 people, but extremely tight. No space for legs under the table. Hardly any possibility to move easily around the place. The chairs were not upholstered, in combination with the limited space, it quickly became clear to us that we would unfortunately be going home without dessert. About the prices: Sirloin steak with fried potatoes, beef roulade with potatoes and 2 Fanta for 60€... By the way, the fried potatoes are fried in far too much oil. As a result, they come to the table more fried than fried, which unfortunately you can taste. What the chives are doing on the cooked potatoes probably remains a little secret. The red cabbage, the sauce and the roulade were convincing in terms of taste. Unfortunately, after 15 years of loyalty, we can no longer rate the price/performance as positive. PS: It feels like it's getting darker and darker for you. The map is almost impossible to read.
