Excellent, high-quality food in a lovely setting. We'd love to go back.

We chose the INDIAN SUMMER MENU, including wine pairing. The menu presents a balanced composition of seasonal ingredients and creative combinations. The dessert was a perfect finish, with a light, fruity freshness. Recommended for connoisseurs! The wine selection seamlessly complements the individual courses. It was a very pleasant evening, thanks to the excellent cuisine and great service.

The Locks is a very cozy restaurant, and we chose the Indian Summer menu. It was truly excellent and delicious, and we were able to take our time. The server was super friendly and cheerful, even cracking jokes; it was a relaxed atmosphere. This certainly won't be our last time here.

The service was very poor. It took a very long time. In a group of six, two waited 30 minutes for their wine. The waiters never asked if we wanted anything else. They were also barely friendly. The atmosphere was great. The food was OK. Overall, not good enough for the prices.

First of all. The food is very, very delicious and there is nothing to complain about! Both at this restaurant and at Neumanns (same owner), the food is all-round delicious. We were at Locks at the weekend and had a reservation. The food was, as expected, wonderful. We were greeted very warmly by the chef and shown to our table. He was very attentive and polite and even came back to the table every now and then to advise us. Unfortunately, I/we cannot say the same for the rest of the staff, which is a shame. The restaurant is quite expensive and the wine list is extensive. As guests, we expect appropriate service that at least knows its own menu. Unfortunately, when we asked questions about the wine, there was no answer (we simply had no idea), and when we ordered dessert we just got a questioning look. The young waiter tried very hard and was kind and friendly but unfortunately had no training at all. This is unfortunately noticeable at the table. Advice on the wine is even more impossible. It would be just as nice if the service came up with the idea of ​​asking at the table if we needed anything else, drinks, dessert, etc. Instead, we unfortunately had to wave every time for someone to come or for the dessert menu to be brought to us. For these prices, the service should also be right. Which unfortunately it isn't. I also really wanted to order an alcoholic drink that wasn't on the menu. The answer I got was: "No, unfortunately that's not possible. I'm not allowed to order anything that isn't on the menu." Also a shame for a bar like this one... I don't know of any other bar where that's impossible? To be fair, it still gets 3 🌟 stars. Everything else is fine in this bar. The service should be better trained, though.

The food is good, but the prices are truly astronomical these days. It's really no fun anymore.

Warning! If you plan on visiting Locks, don't wear good clothes! The chairs are so worn you'll pull on the drawstrings! I was wearing new silk tights last night and got a run in each knee because the corners of the chair were so frayed that the white lining was showing. All the chairs in the surrounding area looked like that. The restaurant manager brought me a blanket, but didn't say a word of sympathy. He didn't want to pay for the damage. Instead, he showed us the new chairs downstairs, which were fully occupied, which didn't solve my problem. Leaving guests sitting on bulky waste shows how much respect management has for their guests.

Highly recommended, but you should bring a little patience as it is very busy

After a canoe trip with our daughters and small dog, we wanted to stop here for coffee and ice cream or cake. Although the place was almost empty, we were somewhat rudely turned away with the statement that no new guests could be accepted until 5 p.m. Even though it was already 4:30, we weren't offered a reservation, etc. Ultimately, we're not sad about it, as Locks is no longer what we knew it to be. Exorbitant prices (€6.50 for a small piece of cake!), somewhat dated furnishings, and a chilly atmosphere. We rather had the feeling that they didn't want us. Was it the dog? The casual attire, or the fact that they only wanted coffee and cake? We won't be eating here again in the future.

30 minutes for 2 beers. Staff completely overwhelmed. Guests simply leave.

Over €20 for a simple iced coffee and an equally expensive iced chocolate is pretty steep. Serving it all at an outdoor table, where dirt had been accumulating for days or more in every crevice, doesn't really make things any better. Furthermore, there was a slight but rather unpleasant odor at times, similar to horse dung, but with no horses anywhere in sight. The ratio is completely out of proportion.

We've been to Locks several times now, and I can say the food is very tasty. However, the price is also high, which I personally find a bit too high. Recently, you have to pay €2.50 per person for the bread, which used to be placed on the table for free. It's a shame they've changed this practice. When all the tables are occupied, the noise level is quite high. Like many others here, I can't say anything negative about the service. Only the restaurant manager seemed a bit stressed. We will definitely be back...maybe not as often.

We didn't have a reservation, so we were lucky to get a counter seat. The service was great and attentive. The food was also excellent. Next time I'll make a reservation, so we'll have a nice table. Thank you.

We waited 20 minutes. Then the card arrived. Then nothing for another 15 minutes. Then we left.

The reception was frosty and the service was almost nonexistent. We would have liked dessert or a cappuccino, but no one seemed to care, so we didn't. The food was good, nothing special but tasty - we won't be back.

A fantastic restaurant! You walk in and are greeted and served very politely and attentively from the very beginning. The food and value for money are top-notch! The atmosphere is very relaxed. We'd happily return!

While I was disappointed with the food last year, I was proven wrong after a second attempt. For me, the quality of the food is back to the top.

We've been to Locks several times over the years. Last time, we said, no, that's it. After two years, we finally tried again. Unfortunately, it's still the same. Too few waitstaff for too many tables. The waitstaff was very nice when they were at the table. But the fact that the drinks came after the appetizer just isn't acceptable. My wife's meal (pictures 4 and 5) shows how much fat they had to trim off the beef. My veal schnitzel was so small that I was still hungry afterward. And for that price? I ordered a cheese platter for dessert. We got dessert "on the house" because my wife obviously wasn't full either. As nice as the waitstaff is, they're overwhelmed and can't handle the volume of guests. We're not going to Locks for now. The portions are too small for adults. Retirees will certainly see things differently. What a shame!

A good restaurant that's been around for years. This year, they're offering the Hamburg gourmet menu. Due to the size of the restaurant, there are a lot of groups, which makes it difficult to have a conversation. The food is okay, and the value for money is also good.

Restaurant located in the old lockmaster's house of the Poppenbüttel Lock, as far as I remember. I was there for lunch on a Thursday. They also have a weekly changing lunch menu with about five dishes, see website. It was still very quiet at that time. The reception was very friendly and the service attentive. The food was very tasty. The music was pleasant (not too loud, no singing). The location near Marienhof Park is very nice. There's also a bike rack, although it's more attractive than practical ;) Overall, it's quite upscale, yet charming and not too fancy.

The chateaubriand was great! It was really juicy and tender, and the potatoes & fries were delicious as well. However we weren’t fans of the beef tartar. It was more of a mousse, way too finely chopped up.

Good, home-style German cuisine. Please reserve a table.

Always first-class. I've been there a few times a year since I was a child. The food is always very good, and the service is extremely attentive, even when it's busy like today. Only €2.50 for three slices of bread is a bit much. Maybe they should add that somewhere else. Luckily, we weren't charged for it.

Bad and unfriendly service!!!! We were there today with our two children. - The staff's tone was snippy and curt. - We were asked whether we wanted a hot meal or coffee and cake, and we replied that we had to look at the menu first to decide. - We were then seated at a table, but weren't given a menu (there was only the snack menu). - My husband asked if they could serve hot meals at that time of day and if there was a children's menu. The question was answered in the affirmative, but the menus weren't brought. - After asking AGAIN, we were given ONE children's menu to color in for TWO children WITHOUT crayons (each children's meal cost €12.90 here, so of course you have to save money...) - The QR code on the table, where you should have viewed the menu, showed an error (the QR code generally worked, but the error occurred when you clicked on the menu) - Otherwise, we continued to be ignored. CONCLUSION: - You have to ask for every little thing here and are treated not like a customer, but like an annoying burden. We left and ultimately didn't order anything there. We wanted to have a nice afternoon and would have been willing to spend our money there, but then we didn't... Probably no one noticed, because we apparently didn't exist anyway.

The restaurant is beautifully rustic. The food was delicious. The drinks were fantastic, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The drinks were amazing. I think we'll see you here again.

The food itself is of good quality and tastes quite good, as far as I can tell. The restaurant is beautifully located, and the ambiance is perfect for creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, the service leaves something to be desired. Initially, we waited 15 minutes at our table for someone to bring us a menu so we could start browsing. It was hardly busy at that point, so you couldn't say the service was overwhelmed. Furthermore, the service on the day of our visit was not courteous, which is not what you would expect from such an expensive restaurant.

Really good food! I love going there with my friends; the selection is always excellent, as is the service. My only complaint is that sometimes you have to wait a little longer for your order.

The food was good, the rest was an absolute disappointment. We waited an hour for the drinks to be served and only when asked. The tray had apparently been sitting at the counter for a while because the white wine was no longer cool and the ice cubes in the long drink had already melted. An aperitif was completely forgotten and it came much later. When the drinks were finished, we had to repeatedly try to get the waiter's attention to get at least a second bottle of water. The starters didn't come at the same time either. There was no question as to whether we wanted any additional drinks with the meal. The red wine we ordered with the main course at the beginning only came when we asked for it when we had almost finished eating. The aperitif glasses remained empty on the table until the desert was cleared away. Unfortunately, the espresso was also forgotten and then brought to the table without sugar. The restaurant was neither full nor lacking staff. But they were busy resetting the tables to the right and left of us, so it gave the impression that they wanted to close soon. From a restaurant that offers high-priced food, I expect not only that the food is good (which it was), but that the entire package is right and that includes professional service and that was not evident.

Waren am späten Nachmittag da , und von Anfang bis Ende nur ein ewiges Warten es fing am Empfang an wo sich keiner blicken ließ bis zur Bestellung, Falsches Essen , keiner fragte ob es schmeckt oder noch irgendwas möchte . Das Timing eine einzige Katastrophe. Das Essen war gut war aber leider das einzige positive.

The food was good. But that’s about it. Starting at the reception, we were completely ignored, even though the bartender had already seen us. When we were allowed to sit down, we waited 30 minutes before we were even allowed to order. Drinks came relatively quickly, food shortly after. However, wrong. When asked that it was wrong, the waiter replied "I didn't include it, it's not my fault" and the starter only came when I asked for the main course. The schnitzel for 18€ extra, which came later, was tiny. Forever long waiting times, the service didn't ask whether everything was okay or whether we would like something more to drink. Again, I had to wait forever until I could order something else. Waiting for the bill took another 15 minutes. No waiter paid us any attention, we had to try to wave someone over every time. Really underground, especially for the price range!

Had lunch at The Locks again after a long time. The deer schnitzel was great, as was a starter and dessert with the menu for 27.50 euros. Despite staff shortages in the catering industry, the service was wonderfully friendly in the beautiful garden. We definitely recommend this place!

We went to Locks for lunch with our families after our daughter's baptism. Everything was discussed in advance (number of people, time, menu, drinks, table decorations, space for strollers, etc.). The communication was uncomplicated and very nice. We weren't disappointed on site either. The food, seating and service were outstanding. We felt very well looked after and received only positive feedback from our guests.

Had dinner here with my son and it was delicious and the price was good. We will come back 🤗

Back in the Locks after a long time. 3 cheeseburgers with fries. Meat not completely cooked through. Buns way too soft. Caesar salad was ordered without anchovies. But then came along. When we were informed, the anchovies were removed at the neighboring table and the salad was served again. Could the service have been solved differently?! Overall, the employees didn't seem very motivated. Too bad 😔

Very tasteful dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. For the price range, the service was very expandable. The employees seemed very stressed and didn't provide much information. E.g. about the soup of the day that we ordered. So we had to ask what soup it was. We also ordered fried potatoes, which we didn't receive until the end.

Out of place: eroticism or tasteless? In the men's restroom of this restaurant, there's a huge photo of a woman's naked buttocks. Honestly: What's the point? Such an image might be appropriate in a nightclub or brothel – but in a restaurant that presents itself as sophisticated? Absolutely inappropriate. A restaurant should be a place where all guests feel comfortable – regardless of gender or personal taste. This image not only seems out of place, but also disrespectful and unpleasant. It gives the impression that questionable priorities are being set here. It's clear to me: I will not visit this restaurant again. Anyone who shows such little sensitivity towards their guests has lost my trust. Eroticism has its place – but certainly not in a restaurant restroom that aims to convey an upscale ambiance. Tasteless and beside the point.

The LOCKS is one of my favorites!!!! Particularly noteworthy is the great staff, super friendly and very eager to please the guest! You just feel comfortable there and I have already recommended the location several times! I always leave the restaurant with a smile 😘

Upper middle class in terms of prices. Our waiter M. was very attentive and the overall package was also right in his service. The food was a dream. The combination of ingredients is a bit unusual but excellently prepared. No 0/8/15 inserts. The only downside for me personally is that it is a bit louder in a full restaurant.

Wir haben uns sehr auf den 88. Geburtstag meines Vaters gefreut und sind extra mit elf Personen angereist, veinihe von uns hunderte Kilometer weit. Leider wurde der Tag zu einem katastrophalen Erlebnis. Das Essen war durchweg schlecht – egal ob Fleisch, Fisch oder Salat, alles war komplett versalzen und ungenießbar. Nicht ein Gericht konnte überzeugen. Am schlimmsten war jedoch der Service. Die Kellnerin war unaufmerksam, überfordert und in ihrer Art unhöflich. Die Wartezeiten waren lang, und als wir auf die Probleme hingewiesen haben, eskalierte die Situation völlig. Vor der gesamten Geburtstagsgesellschaft wurde ich von der Kellnerin lautstark beschimpft. Selbst als ich sie bat, das Gespräch abseits zu führen, weigerte sie sich und wollte offensichtlich, dass alle Anwesenden die Szene mitbekommen. Erst die Supervisorin schaltete sich ein und versuchte, die Situation zu beruhigen, aber der Abend war natürlich schon ruiniert. Bei einer Rechnung von 530 Euro bleibt uns nun nur ein bitterer Nachgeschmack. Dass das Essen nicht geschmeckt hat, haben wir uns nicht mal mehr getraut anzusprechen, aus Angst, erneut beschimpft zu werden. Alles in allem ein desaströses Erlebnis, das wir so schnell nicht vergessen werden – leider aus den falschen Gründen.

We were really looking forward to my father's 88th birthday and were there with eleven people, some of us from hundreds of kilometers away. Unfortunately, the day turned into a disastrous experience. The food was consistently bad - whether it was meat, fish or salad, everything was completely over salted and of a low standard. Not one dish or dessert was convincing. But the worst thing was the service. The waitress was inattentive, overwhelmed and extremely rude in a manner that I have never experienced in my life. The waiting times were long, and when we pointed out the problems, the situation escalated completely. I was loudly insulted by the waitress in front of the entire birthday party. Even when I asked her to have the conversation away, she refused, obviously wanting everyone present to witness the scene. It was only the supervisor who intervened and tried to calm the situation, but of course the day was already ruined. With a bill of 530 euros, all we're left with is a bitter aftertaste. We didn't even dare to mention that the food wasn't tasty for fear of being insulted again. All in all, a disastrous experience that we won't soon forget - unfortunately for the wrong reasons.

Wonderful atmosphere, but as a professional I know that the kitchen has room for improvement. Much more is possible in this price range! You won't be able to compete with the restaurants in Dubai or Paris where I learned, but it was still acceptable.

The restaurant is very nice and in a nice location. The cobwebs at the top of the windows are not so nice. Unfortunately, the service was not particularly polite or accommodating. I've had much better experiences in this price range. I also don't think the extra charge for the bread is reasonable. Too bad The food was very tasty.

We were completely satisfied, there was very tasty food, nice rooms and a really friendly service staff member who was responsible for us. There was a separate room for our celebration, with its own cloakroom and toilets, which was a big advantage. Absolutely recommended.

Very good restaurant with little room for improvement. In the run-up to Christmas we always go to the Dorfkrug in Volksdorf to eat duck. Unfortunately our reservation was canceled this year, so we needed a replacement at short notice. In “The Locks” we have found a worthy alternative. You can easily reserve online here and the food was on the same level - very tasty! The service was quick and friendly. A little suggestion: If the guests are deep in conversation, you can serve the drinks more subtly. But that is criticism at a very high level. Furthermore, we felt very comfortable here and had a lovely evening.

Caesar salad with sparse ingredients, hardly any parmesan and boring yoghurt sauce - and that for €18... The ambience and service were OK, but THAT was value for money at the worst level.

Die letzten beiden Besuche waren gegenüber früher sehr enttäuschend. So fiel auf, dass kein Brot mit Butter o.ä. angeboten wurde. Die Gerichte (nicht gerade preiswert) wurden auf Tellern nicht gerade liebevoll serviert. Früher waren die Gerichte phantasievoll und etwas Besonderes. Das kann ich nicht mehr feststellen. Der Burger war trocken, es wurde nicht einmal nachgefragt, wie das Fleisch gebraten sein soll. Ja, und noch etwas: eine Pfeffermühle sollte immer auf einem Tisch stehen. Das ist eine Selbstverständlichkeit! Alles in allem: nicht mehr zufriedenstellend. Schade, Poppenbüttel braucht gute Gastronomie.

Food and service was good. But somehow not a unique selling point. So there wasn't this effect that made you want to come back. We had the duck for 2 people.

Nice restaurant right on the Alster river. Nice and cozy atmosphere, but the noise level was a bit too loud for us (acoustic). The service was polite, friendly and very diligent. When it came to the choice of drinks and food, there was something for everyone, deliciously prepared and attractively presented. Unfortunately, a piece of plastic packaging was found in one of the main courses - this was complained about without any problems and was professionally compensated for with a dessert. Conclusion: Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, we have to change our previously very positive opinion. We've always enjoyed staying here, but a lot has changed recently. Of course, the increased prices – a schnitzel now costs €33 and duck almost €40 – can be explained by the general cost increases. However, the quality must not suffer. Unfortunately, the duck was hardly edible: the skin was completely flaky and the portions were noticeably small for the price. Significant savings were also made on the side dishes. We also noticed that there was no longer a bread basket, as was common in the past. This also seems to be an innovation. A bright spot, however, was the dessert, which saved the evening a little, as did the usual friendly service. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend reconsidering the price-performance policy. It would be a real shame if Locks were only remembered for its great cuisine.

Ich war mit Freunden um die Mittagszeit im Locks. Die Bedienung war freundlich. Das Essen war unterirdisch. Die Burger entweder bis zur Versteinerung durchgebraten oder roh. Die Poularde ebenfalls nicht auf den Punkt zubereitet. Alles in allem kein Besuch wert!!!

The food was good, but only partially worth the price. We had goat cheese and César salad with lamb, the prices for these are exorbitant, I can't rate the rest. I can certainly rate the service and unfortunately it doesn't fit at all with what the restaurant wants to be or once was - upper class. The service was slow, inattentive and disinterested. Every drink (re)order came only after searching and ultimately calling out to the waitress - empty glasses were ignored or simply not seen. If there was a repeat order, unfortunately that wasn't the end... There were waiting times of 20 minutes for 2 hefeweizens. About the ambience: maybe we were just unlucky, but the table at the back on the left had a “fly problem”. In the 3+ hours we sat there we killed about 10 fruit flies... that got pretty annoying at some point. The friendly tip to service didn't help, but showed that she knew about it. But the restaurant doesn't seem to want to stop it. In total around €70 per person and very dissatisfied… I didn't think it was recommendable. Too bad

What should the “USP” be? After a total of four visits (at the invitation of third parties), my personal conclusion is: food is okay, but nothing more. My personal impression is that these could consist largely of prefabricated products? The price no longer matches that. I know much better in the price range in Hamburg. In my opinion, the ambience is arbitrary and in some cases clearly outdated. Unlike other reviews, I had consistently positive experiences with the service. In the end the question remains, why should I go there?

A restaurant that you can recommend without hesitation. The cuisine is more upscale. You can also see this in the service and the prices. There are both meat and fish dishes. During our stay at "The Locks" we had tuna, zander and veal schnitzel. All dishes were very nicely prepared and tasted of a good standard. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant and are warmly welcomed.

After ordering, food (salads) take another 50 minutes to arrive at the table. The restaurant was very empty for a Saturday and yet it took so long. I have been twice to this restaurant and the experiences could not have been more different. The first time was fantastic: excellent food - traditional ingredients with a wonderful twist. The staff is very nice and helpful and the restaurant beautiful with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The second time the food was rather tasteless; In addition, there is only a small choice of vegetarian dishes.

It has always been a pleasure to come for 20 years, but unfortunately it has declined significantly over the last year. There are no more twister fries and the normal fries don't taste good. The schnitzel is also just mediocre. Too bad!

As always, a great experience, this time in the garden

Very nice atmosphere and nice service. Unfortunately, the food doesn't justify the very high prices. The pike-perch fillet was nicely presented on the chanterelles, but overall the taste was very boring. Unfortunately, the high prices suggest a significantly higher quality. A pity! We also found the drinks to be quite overpriced. Conclusion for us... unfortunately it's not worth it.

After a bike ride on the Alster hiking trail we stopped there. The food was very good, I had the hamburger from the bar menu. Large patty and a decent portion of fries. It's very expensive but also very good. Unfortunately, the music at the bar was very loud at some point and it was difficult to have a conversation, so one star was deducted from the ambience.

Nice location with a decent map near the AEZ. Always worth a visit...

2 years ago it was still an acceptable location. Today we went there to eat again for months. Price-performance no longer matches. Forgot the bread in advance, the Wienerschnitzel was rather mediocre, and otherwise there was no feeling that you were welcome. Therefore we will not be coming back! There is much better.

The food was tasty. But very Highly priced, zander fillet with side dish: €32 I think 0.4 l Königspilsener for €6.50 somewhat exaggerated.

Nachdem ich 10 Minuten vergeblich auf Bedienung gewartet habe, bin ich wieder gegangen. Ganz schlechter Service, die Lage und das Ambiente sind allerdings schön.

Our rediscovery. How could it happen that this beautiful restaurant fell out of our sight? We are back and have just enjoyed a delicious pike perch fillet and a wonderful veal schnitzel. Very attentive and friendly service, on a beautiful terrace, and with nice guests.
