Restaurant where you will find what you are looking for in classic German dishes. The quantities served are always too large but that seems to be German normality... The service was really very friendly and attentive.

Edit, May 6th 2025 (3 years later): my review was removed by Google because it was 'defamatory'. This means someone (I wonder whote...) tried to have my review removed, and I had to prove I was actually there. Quite a low move! The food was OK. It appeared they had forgotten about our reservation and rushed through everything. We were in and out with drinks, starter and main course in 40 minutes. Would not recommend for an evening out, but fine for families or friends looking for comfort food.

There is a terrace. There are a lot of potato dishes. Prices are reasonable. The portions are large. The food tasted excellent. The service was nice and willing to compromise because we swapped the side dishes. It's a big restaurant.

A restaurant specializing in potato dishes. Menu with a large selection of dishes. We ordered a baked potato with cheese and salad and a baked potato with mushrooms and cheese sauce. Both dishes were tasty, filling and served quickly (especially considering the number of guests in the restaurant). I definitely recommend it!

The food was very tasty. The fried potatoes had the perfect consistency and were outstanding. The service was also incredibly good. The waitress has enough dad jokes to keep everyone laughing.

I had a schnitzel with spicy paprika sauce, but the sauce was too moist, resulting in the schnitzel being too soggy. Also it was not spicy at all, but rather bland. The french fries were okay though. The other people at my table had other schnitzels, they seem to had a better experiences.

Not a bad place if you are walking around Trier and want to have a hearty meal somewhere inexpensive. The portions are large, our wait for food was less than 5 minutes 🤩 it was nice to sit on the street terrace and watch the fountain. Apfelschorle was not very good, just like slightly carbonated apple juice. For 2 drinks and 2 dishes we paid 40€.

The food varies in quality. The schnitzel was nothing special and I wouldn't eat it again, but the sausage salad was good.

Can't recommend anything negative at all

We were on holiday in Trier and, as potato lovers, we really wanted to try out the potato crate. We hadn't made a reservation beforehand, but went there on the off chance that we were lucky. But this wasn't a problem. The nice waiter immediately showed us a table where we could sit down. It has to be said that it was Easter Monday and there was a lot going on in the restaurants. The cards were brought and shortly afterwards the drinks were taken. Great 👍 We quickly found what we were looking for on the menu and were able to order our food directly from the “drink delivery”. It didn't take long before the waiter brought us the food. What can you say... very tasty 😋 The only drawback was that there was an extra charge for changing side dishes, which was not on the menu. But the potato box is really recommended 👍 delicious food

YES! Entertaining evening because the Trier roast was excellent, and the waiter offered involuntary slapstick for at least 40 minutes. On the second visit, we were a little disappointed because the Wiener-style schnitzel was probably prepared in the deep fryer!

Thanks alot! We were in Trier for 6 days and tried out a variety of restaurants. The best thing was supposed to brighten up our last day a second time, and that was you! We had different waitresses during our visits and everyone was super friendly, on the ball and always in a good mood. If you look around and see the amount of guests being served at the same time - hats off, huge respect for the performance! The food was super tasty, came very quickly and the price-performance ratio is more than customer-friendly. You should definitely make a reservation as the restaurant is always full during peak hours. We will definitely come back on our next visit!

Great experience! Kartoffel Kiste is a must-visit in Trier. It offers traditional German and local Trierer dishes, with generous portions and reasonable prices. The service was excellent—I was clearly challenging myself to speak German, and the waiters played along patiently, only switching to English when I gave in first. They seem ready to serve you in any language you throw at them. Just a small tip: make sure to wait to be seated. I saw the staff get a bit annoyed with people who ignored that rule, despite the sign. All in all, I highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately, you've slacked off quite a bit. Ambiance and service: You have had the impression for a long time that you are not that welcome. Most of the staff constantly give the impression of being annoyed. For many employees, the service seems more like a check-in process. It's a shame, you don't really feel comfortable as a guest. In addition, the staff should not speak negatively about other guests. (very unprofessional) Eat: Apparently the schnitzels are no longer made in-house, like they used to be. They are exactly the same in size and shape, you can actually assume that these are frozen goods, even if the taste of the schnitzels is ok. You should also change the type of fries again, the others were much better. Conclusion: You used to be one of the best restaurants for meat and potato dishes, but today it's unfortunately just mediocre.

The potato box is a must for us once a month. We come to Trier for shopping once a month. Of course, physical well-being should not be missing. Service is super good. Friendly, humorous employees. Food is prepared quickly and is very tasty. Prices are also awesome. Always my pleasure. Keep it up!

In the potato box there is a lot to choose from what you can make with potatoes, for example the regional specialty Kappes Teerdisch. The food tasted great, the portions were definitely something for those very hungry. Which was a bit of a shame; We were told on the phone that you couldn't make a reservation for the outdoor terrace and that we should come by on a "good luck" basis, but there would already be a table available. That's how it was, but since guests arrived at the same time as us and had apparently already made reservations for outside, it still made a bit of a stupid impression on us. But nonetheless, a visit here is worth it!

Delicious food, reasonably priced, and very friendly service. It was very busy, so I suspect you need to make a reservation on Saturdays. And it's a special highlight for vegetarians: All dishes are labeled, and schnitzel and currywurst menus are easily available in vegetarian versions. However, it's a challenge for vegans.

Last time we were waiting a lot for the order. But usually service is not bad. In front of the restaurant there is an interesting metal fountain which expresses different jobs.

If you’re looking to try authentic German food in the city, then is it! Excellent choice of menu options (vegetarians included) with a wide range of alcoholic and no-alcoholic beverage options. The staff is friendly and quick on their feet. Also, their terrace is perfect for a sit down on a warm afternoon.

Reception and service were very friendly, and the restaurant is quite bright and ideally located in the city center. However, the food was at the table within 5 minutes of ordering. The creamed schnitzel was quite crispy, as if it had been in the fryer too long. The cream sauce was quite thick, but flavorless. The mushrooms weren't fresh either, but from a can. My fried potatoes were served without onions or bacon. To be fair, I have to say that the two ingredients weren't on the menu either; I guess my expectations of at least onions were too high. But the fact that the bearded potatoes didn't arrive fresh from the pan, but lukewarm and soggy, was a no-go. That should have been the supreme discipline, but it was more than disappointing. The second dish: The dough around the dumplings was served like the minced meat, without any noticeable seasoning; the sauce was more than adequate. Even adding salt and pepper to the table couldn't salvage the desired flavor you'd expect from the dishes. I can't understand the positive reviews.

Very friendly staff. You never have to wait long for your food. It's very tasty, and the value for money is good. However, if you're dining with more than two people, a reservation is recommended.

I have visited this restaurant twice: around 2 years ago and a week ago. The dishes are as delicious as they were 2 years ago. The service is extremely friendly and professional: just perfect, which is a great achievement for Germany. The atmosphere is relaxing and cozy. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

We randomly discovered this restaurant while on a weekend getaway to Trier. I cannot fault this restaurant. The food was delicious, we tried different dishes from salads to mains. Great portion sizes, good quality food, helpful, fast and efficient service and a great overall vibe. Good value for money. Their specialities are around baked potatoes and they really have done it right. Can’t wait to go back for more. Thank you.

there was no 0,4 option of juice in the menu, only 0,2 for 2,90, but they still brang me the 0,4 and asked to pay for that around 5€. scammers.

Restaurant specializing in potatoes. Something that we had already seen a lot in Berlin, they charge you a 10% tip outside of the final bill. So make it a day that regardless of what you order, there will always be an extra charge at the end.

Our orders were served quickly and freshly, and you could tell that quality is important here. Overall, the box is a wonderful place to gather with friends or family and enjoy a delicious potato dish. We can only warmly recommend this restaurant and are already looking forward to our next visit!

We ate here for the first time today...(and I think it will be the last time too) Reception and service very friendly.. The food was a disaster. Not only did the baked potatoes with mushroom sauce taste totally like Maggi, the completely dead baked potatoes were drowned in sauce. I don't even want to talk about the can champions. I had the dish returned completely. (Positive... the dish wasn't on the bill) We also had a schnitzel of two kinds... Where the chef didn't cover himself with fame either. I can't understand the positive reviews...

THE potato restaurant in the oldest city in Germany. You can quickly eat well and cheaply in the potato box. So far we have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and always friendly. In summer you can also sit on the outdoor terrace, right in the pedestrian zone.
