Great selection for vegetarians; they now offer vegetarian schnitzels, which are very tasty! The potato casseroles are also highly recommended.

As the name suggests, this place is all about potatoes in all their forms. We sat outside and luckily managed to snag a table, so make sure you reserve in advance if possible. Our food was delicious and plentiful. Our service was attentive, friendly, and quick. The prices were absolutely fair. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised and would gladly return!

While looking for a restaurant serving typical regional dishes, we were recommended the Kartoffelkiste restaurant. The crowd and the recommendations on the outside board piqued our interest. Unfortunately, the advertised "Trierer Dreierlei" (Trier Three-course Meal) was already sold out at 6:00 PM (but it was still listed on the board). So we opted for "Trierer Gefüllte" (potato dumplings filled with minced meat in a cheese sauce) and "Trierer Spießbraten" (Trier Spießbraten). Unfortunately, the spit roast was only lukewarm, and the filled dumplings were not seasoned at all and tasted of nothing. The service was friendly but stressed because of the groups being rushed through. A group of four was even moved after dinner because the space was needed for another group. Overall, unfortunately, not a culinary experience.

The price-performance ratio is outrageous. Considering it's called a potato box, I'm very surprised that they serve fries from a deep fryer. The schnitzel seems to have come from the freezer.

We visited the Kartoffelkiste in Trier with a group of around 40 people and were thoroughly impressed. The food was consistently excellent – ​​whether schnitzel or pork loin, everything was perfectly prepared. The sauces and various potato dishes also tasted great and went wonderfully with the dishes. Despite our large group, the service was seamless: The waiters were consistently friendly, attentive, and did a truly excellent job. Overall, a fantastic experience – we'd love to come back and can wholeheartedly recommend the Kartoffelkiste.

Our first time in Trier and we had a bit of trouble finding a restaurant spontaneously without a reservation. No problem here. We were quickly and courteously seated at a nice table. Short wait times, very friendly staff, a cheerful and upbeat team, and a pleasant ambiance made a good impression. The food was also delicious and the portions were large. Thank you very much! The only suggestion for improvement: The salad was fresh, but quite plain and had a strong dressing (a bit like you'd expect from delivery services). With some lamb's lettuce, arugula, or a lighter vinaigrette, it would have been much more sophisticated.

Currywurst and fries were great. Appetizer: potato wedges with well-seasoned dips.

Hungry in Trier? Then this is exactly where you're going! Nice atmosphere, super friendly and fast service. And the food: When my wife says "better than I cook at home"... I've never heard that before. We had the spit roast and the stuffed potato dumplings. Both were divine! Incredibly delicious, the portions were perfect, and the price was unbeatable. We'll definitely be back and will devour the menu the next time we're in the area. The elderly lady next to us raved about the potato casserole. And anything that grandmas love must be amazing. 👍

Wonderful food and wine in an outdoor setting. We had literally arrived in Germany this same day and the warmth of our server and the excellent food and drink started our trip on the right foot. Weather permitting recommend eating outside. We sent the next day for the dessert which was excellent as well

Beautiful restaurant, delicious potato dishes. Sat outside the first time, great service! The second time, we pre-ordered, sat inside, at a large table. We were given instructions (probably from the manager) where the dogs should sit: under the table. The restaurant was completely empty! We were given 1.5 hours, and the restaurant was still empty. The waiter, who was otherwise very good and friendly, gave us another 1.5 hour message! The restaurant was still empty. We would have eaten twice as much, but we're certain we'll never go there again. Unacceptable treatment when you come with dogs that know the rules of restaurant etiquette! This behavior, at a time when the restaurant industry in Germany is doing very poorly, is complete incomprehension!!!! Unfortunately, they didn't understand that the customer at the end of the leash brings the money. What a shame and stupid!!! We made another observation: We noted that there were three veterans among the service staff, including probably the boss. They continually radiated stress on both days of our visit and were conspicuous for their inappropriate manners toward guests and employees. All the other, younger employees were confident and friendly. This is something we should urgently consider! If it's a barracks yard, then it's time for a changing of the guard!

Shopping in downtown Trier makes you hungry. 😉 It's Saturday lunchtime, and we just manage to get a table for two, perfect. Order drinks and food in one go. The staff is very friendly, the food is delicious, and we pay within 40 minutes. My utmost respect to the kitchen and the service staff.

Bored waitress, poor service. We took schnitzel, arrived in 4 minutes, almost cold, meaning that everything is cook in advance, full of oil and grease. Better go to McDonald's or buy a sandwich, i felt ripped off, money vs quality

We were turned away today because we wanted to eat outside with our children. They said there was no room (there were almost no tables outside). Everyone after us was seated. If you don't want children, that's fine, but communicate openly and don't talk nonsense!

Missus had the schnitzel "bierbrauerart" with onions, baked potatoes and a fried egg. We were totally satisfied by our dishes, and a fair price too. 100% recommended.

The dishes seen in the photo are number 98 (breaded fillet with cheese sauce and potatoes), 120 (potato with meatballs and lots of cheese inside), and 42 (potatoes with egg and bacon). Everything is super delicious, and the price-performance ratio is fantastic for being in the city center. If you're visiting this city, I highly recommend coming here! (We came as a group of three, and with three dishes to share, we were delighted.)

Stopped by for lunch on a somewhat busy Friday. The place was fairly quiet when we arrived but it filled up quickly. It's fairly popular, especially amongst an older crowd, as the food also caters to that audience, but I was invited. Two of us had the schnitzel with paprika sauce and one had the mushroom cream schnitzel. The portions are generous but I feel like the food is very much cafeteria quality; the schnitzels felt deep fried and not pan fried. The fries were well prepared though, but the paprika sauce was very runny and not at all heartily seasoned. Staff was friendly and attentive though.

The food was okay. Unfortunately, my wife had sand in a leaf salad, but otherwise it was good. We had mentioned this, and she got a coffee instead. My minced steak was a lot and good. Highly recommended for the price.

The food was very tasty and the service very friendly, but when we wanted to give our order, we found that all dishes prepared in the oven were not served, and there were a lot of them. We were very sorry that this information was not communicated before we ordered drinks. We really came for the potato specialities, but ended up eating schnitzels. We found that a bit of a shame. Serving dessert also appeared to cause some confusion. One waiter provided us with the dessert menu, the other waiter told us that dessert was no longer served. In the end, we had a nice meal, but communication (our German is not so good though) could definitely be better.

There's everything potato-related. The menu truly has something for everyone, and no one will leave the restaurant hungry, as the portions are more than generous. The price for food and drinks per person was just under €20. You can't complain at all. Highly recommended.

Our food was anything but tasty. It seemed like they were just trying to make a lot of it. The fried potatoes were sometimes hard, and so was the schnitzel. The fries weren't fresh, but frozen. The restrooms were also very dirty; there wasn't even paper for handwashing, and the hand dryer was broken. We reported this, but unfortunately, apart from an annoying look, there was no response. We would never go back.

Ordered a Coke, received a Pepsi. Ordered a Zero, received it with sugar (a blood sugar monitor proves it; really problematic when people with diabetes eat there). The salad was obviously prepared long ago in the kitchen fridge and already had the sauce on it—shrinking and therefore unappealing. The toppings from the pan were ice-cold, and the carrots were completely without sauce... Pepperoni from a can... Salt isn't their strong suit here. Plates are cleared away even though people are still eating at the table.
