Restaurant Kalypso in Essen

I celebrated my birthday with family. There were 8 of us. We received a warm welcome and, after a delicious meal, were shaken hands as we left. Everyone was happy. Anything we didn't finish was packed up. We'll be back; it was a lovely evening.

Where do I even begin... to cut to the chase, we're never going back there because the evening was truly awful! The money we spent there was, as they say, a real learning experience! And no, I'm not exaggerating! The one star I gave is a pity star!

I was here for the first time today and ordered takeaway. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff is very friendly. The food tasted excellent. Next time we'll eat in.

A very nice restaurant, the owner is very polite, the food is incredibly delicious 😋 and the drinks too. The beer garden is a bit dated, but the excellent food makes up for it. We'll be happy to come back for another delicious meal. Highly recommended.

My red wine was served in a pilsner glass, the starter came after an hour, and the main course was okay. Overall: we won't be back.

We were absolutely thrilled! The food was incredibly delicious – the fries were perfectly crispy, the salad was fresh and flavorful, and the meat was simply fantastic: juicy, tender, and top-quality. It's rare to find such good food. The chef was super friendly, and the entire team was warm and attentive. Everything is spotlessly clean and decorated with love. The portions are more than fair, and the prices are truly reasonable. We'll definitely be back – and recommend the place wholeheartedly!

New Greek restaurant in Essen (opening in summer 2024) which stands out from the others with its pretty interior decoration, efficient and friendly staff and authentic cuisine with generous portions. The prices are also very reasonable. I will definitely come back!

Food was very tasty. Portion sizes sufficient. Our service was understaffed. There were waiting times. Table was reserved in advance for group. They started moving the tables on site. Unfortunately that's a bit annoying.

Were there on Boxing Day with 18 people. The food was good and plentiful. Everything was always there quickly and they really tried to ensure that drinks etc. were always at the table. However, due to the holiday rush, something seems to have gotten mixed up when booking the table. Can happen. Overall it was still good. I would go again 👍

We were in the restaurant for the first time today. As expected, it was very busy at Christmas, but you didn't notice this either in terms of the waiting times or the mood of the waiters. We were very excited and would love to come back. We can only recommend this restaurant

Who would have thought. Great Greek location in Essen Unterfrintrop. Finally different Greek dishes than on the usual menus. The starters were particularly impressive and we can only recommend that every guest avoid ordering the usual grilled plate. Try the map and enjoy. Service is top.

The best waiter we know from Artemis is now in the Kalypso restaurant and the food is very tasteful. Ambience very good.

Good evening I was in the restaurant this evening with my family, we were very impressed by the ambience and the food. We also had a small child with us. The staff was very, very friendly and accommodating and always asked if everything was OK. And there were little surprises for the child after the meal. I can only recommend the restaurant and will definitely come back again. The child also enjoyed the food.

Unfortunately unrecognizable after renovation and change of ownership. A rich menu is not proof of good cuisine. The ambience, which is now all white, and the new lighting allow guests to dine in bright light. For some dishes, you should consider serving meat and sauce separately and letting the guest choose how much sauce they want. And a little less salt is often more!

Nice ambience, delicious dishes and very nice, non-intrusive service. The tzatziki was amazing, comparable to our favorite restaurants in Crete. We went there spontaneously and were not disappointed. Definitely a recommendation, especially as it's easy to reach by public transport. Been there repeatedly and were welcomed like good friends. The food was great again and the boss conveyed a special feeling of welcome. Great! And been there again. After the renovation, it is brighter, friendlier and more inviting. The food and service are still great, the prices have been adjusted moderately.

Ordered at 7:10 p.m., picked up at 7:25 p.m. Store almost full to capacity. Nevertheless, everything is on point. Very nice boss and a great team. The food tasted very good and the portion would have easily been enough for 2. Crispy fries and plenty of salad too! I can only recommend it, gladly again!

Not so good this time. Apparently they didn't have enough goods left around 8 p.m. on Saturday. The gyro was not fresh.

We made a reservation for a large group at relatively short notice and it worked out great. Even though there were even more people than we had announced, the staff reacted in a very friendly, uncomplicated and professional manner. Everyone - including the Greeks among us - was totally satisfied with the food and we would like to come back! It was delicious and the service was great! Thank you!

We had our Christmas party there late with 11 people. Super friendly staff, very good service and the food was very, very tasty! Waiting time for the meal with 11 people was under 30 minutes. Just as you imagine, going out for a good meal. I can recommend it to everyone!

We were at Kalypso on January 6th, 2024 with 9 people. The service was attentive, but overwhelmed, as the restaurant was quite full and the boss (apparently himself) took over this part and obviously only had one young employee (didn't know what kind of dishes he was bringing to the table) who was not experienced in this job was. When it comes to food, you have to say that the meat dishes were good. There was definitely too much garlic and even more salt in the potato spinach gratin (with devil skewer and salmon fillet). Therefore not edible. The tzatziki tasted watery. All in all, an effort has been made, but there is still room for improvement in the kitchen.

We spontaneously decided to get something from the Greek restaurant for New Year's Eve and surfed the internet and came across Kalypso. Based on the reviews I expected rude staff but delicious food and I have to say no. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating! Despite our spontaneous idea, we were warmly welcomed :-) Food was also great Thank you very much for the great service We can highly recommend you :-) See you next year!

Waren 2 Weihnachtstag Essen. Das Essen war lecker und Gute Portion. Aber die Weibliche Bedienung leider sehr pampig. Das hat uns bisschen die Stimmung verhagelt. Leider uns als Kunden verloren.

Nach dem wir zum 3x binnen 2 Monate dort gegessen haben sind wir zu dem Entschluss gekommen dieses Restaurant zu meiden....bei unseren ersten Besuch hatte man das Gefühl das die Inhaberin einen schlechten Tag hatte ( was man ja verstehen kann ) nicht jeder ist immer gut drauf......OK.....aber beim 2 Besuch wurden wir so gut wie gar nicht beachtet und das Essen wurde schon schlechter ( von meiner Frau die Leber total überwürzt) beim 3 und beim letzten Besuch heute wurde der Vogel ganz abgeschossen .....vom meinen Sohn kam das Essen ca. 15-20 min später nachdem wir fast fertig waren und von meiner Frau konnte man die halbe leber gar nicht mehr essen weil sie tot gebraten wurde.....und spätestens da sollte als Inhaber die Alarmglocken klingeln ( als Entschuldigung kam nur ein......es tut mir Leid)......uns nicht den wir kommen nicht wieder.....

Leckeres Abendessen mit Freunden beim Griechen genießen dürfen! Ein sehr sympathischer Wirt mit sehr freundlichen Personal! Tolle griechische Küche im schönen Ambiente! Angenehmes Preis/Leistungs Verhältnis! Sehr zu empfehlen!

Unfreundlich Lieber Wirt, es ist leider nicht möglich, bei diesen verschiedenen Punkten keine Sterne zu verteilen. Das Sie unfreundlich waren, steht völlig außer Frage. Wenn Sie zugehört hätten bzw. uns nicht unterbrochen hätten, wüssten Sie, was wir gesungen haben. Gerne korrigiere ich meine Bewertung im Hinblick auf das Essen. Die Qualität des Essens kann ich nicht beurteilen. Ihr Verhalten, Herr Wirt, war extrem unfreundlich und aggressiv. Trotzdem danke für die Spende. Wir werden Sie sicherlich nicht wieder belästigen, denn unsere Jugend war durch ihr Verhalten sehr verängstigt.

Wir waren Gestern nach dem Centro in Oberhausen auf der Suche nach einem Lokal und sind auf Euch gestoßen. Wir hatten noch ein kleinen Hund dabei was bei der Anfrage telefonisch kein Problem war. Das Essen der Service etc war alles top! Beim nächsten Besuch wieder liebend gerne 😊

Kleines, gemütliches Restaurant. Die Kellner sind nett und zuvorkommend. Essen ist preislich und geschmacklich super und die Portion sind für die Preise ziemlich groß. Ich würde es raten für Essen telefonisch zu reservieren, da ich es schon mehrmals erlebt habe, dass andere spontan Gäste weggeschickt wurden durch Platzmangel.

Sehr nette und liebe Bedienung! Es ist ein gepflegtes sauberes Restaurant! Speisen geschmacklich sehr gut und schön angerichtet! Das einzige was uns aufgestoßen ist das Hunde im Restaurant waren. Wir haben auch einen Hund und denken er gehört nicht ins Restaurant....Biergarten ist ausgeschlossen.

Ich kann den Griechen wirklich sehr empfehlen. Das Essen hat stets eine hervorragende Qualität und der Service ist wirklich sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und auch unterhaltsam. Zudem ist das Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis fast unschlagbar. Wir gehen hier sehr gerne essen. PS. Nette Vierbeiner sind hier auch gerne gesehen :)

Waren sehr begeistert. Sehr gastfreundlich. Zur Begrüßung gab es Ouzo und als sich kurzfristig noch jemand dazu gesellt hat, wurden direkt die Tische umgestellt. Das Fleisch war auf den Punkt gegrillt.

War zum ersten Mal in diesem Restaurant, obwohl ich es nicht weit dorthin habe. Aber muss sagen ich hab das beste Souvlaki auf dem Teller gehabt, was ich je gegessen habe. Allgemein war das Essen wirklich köstlich und kann sagen, das es das beste griechische Essen in meinem Leben war. Also ich kann es nur empfehlen. Essen top und Besitzer und Bedienung gleichermaßen. Also gerne wieder.

Eine klare Empfehlung. Wir waren eher zufällig in der Nähe und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Der Service war freundlich und persönlich. Die Karte nicht überdimensioniert, dafür mit der einen oder anderen Variation, die man in anderen griechischen Restaurants nicht findet. Das Fleisch war hervorragend, das Moussaka ebenso. Preislich auch völlig im Rahmen.

Zur Begrüßung gab es einen Ouzo . Das ist leider nicht mehr in vielen Griechischen Lokalen so. Das Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Der Bifteki Teller mit der leckeren Metaxa Sauce ist gut portioniert und sehr empfehlenswert. Das Gyros könnte vielleicht ein wenig mehr Gewürze vertragen , aber das ist auch Geschmackssache. Lecker war es allemal. Sehr freundlicher und aufmerksamer Service. Kommen gerne wieder.

Wir waren heute das erste Mal in dieser Gaststätte. Es war sus der Not geboren, da alle unsere sonstigen Lokalitäten Betriebsferien hatten. Wir waren sehr positiv überrascht. Die Servicekräfte waren außergewöhnlich freundlich. Die Portionen waren nicht so überladen wie bei manchen anderen Griechen. Dafür gab es auch Gerichte die nicht bei jedem auf der Karte stehen. Die Qualität war ebenfalls gut. Wir waren nicht das letzte Mal zu Gast. Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend

Das Fleisch beim Grillteller wurde nicht wie bei vielen Griechen tot gebraten , sondern war auf dem Punkt. Freundliches, aufmerksames Personal.. Essen kam schnell. Ambiente war sauber und passend zum Griechen rustikal, aber nicht altbackend eingerichtet.
