Restaurant Holzofen in Hamm

The wood-fired oven wasn't ready yet; the alternative dishes we ordered were edible, but nothing more. The service was very slow, and there was no inquiry about our satisfaction.

We were rather disappointed, unfortunately. We drove about 30 km specifically for the "wood-fired oven." The Adana pudding was extremely greasy; I think it was cooked in a pan. The side dishes were also quite greasy. The service was friendly. The restaurant was also very cold, so I couldn't take off my winter jacket. Sorry I can't write anything better.

We waited 90 minutes for our food today. The service was poor, the food was presented without any care, and it didn't taste particularly good. When we got up to pay, we were told to sit down again, as they would come to collect the payment. The only question was when. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of guests. Perhaps they should reduce the number of seats if they can't handle the crowds. What a shame.

A nicely decorated restaurant with friendly and quick service. The doner kebab was okay – the bread was fine, the salad fresh, and the sauce quite good, though it tasted a bit like ketchup. Unfortunately, the meat was disappointing and tasted more like sausage. The drinks served in glasses were flat, but the ayran was tasty and a nice touch, being pre-packaged. Prices are fair and generally okay, but the meat could be improved.

Highly recommended; the appetizer platter is divine. Attentive service, everything freshly prepared, good value for money.

We visited the restaurant twice in 2025. The mixed grill is highly recommended, and the service is good. — We visited the wood-fired oven restaurant on March 9, 2019. The table reservation we had made 14 days prior was not recorded. The confident server then asked us if we were sure we were at the right restaurant. Since two members of our group had canceled, we were fortunately not at full strength. Therefore, we were given a free table. Upon arrival at the table, we immediately ordered drinks, starters, and main courses. — After 15 minutes, the server noticed that the Turkish lentil soup was unavailable. We opted for tomato soup, which was served to us 45 minutes later. — Except for one main course, these arrived 15 minutes after the soup. The missing main course was surprisingly no longer available. Offering a complimentary drink as an apology, a replacement menu was ordered, which was promptly delivered. — - The chai tea we ordered at the beginning arrived about an hour later, along with the main courses. - To finish, we were served regular beer instead of non-alcoholic beer. Luckily, we noticed and were able to complain. Our incorrect beers were replaced without any problems. Conclusion: Food 4 stars. Service 2 stars. It's a shame, we always enjoyed visiting Holzofem with our friends. Since the service has deteriorated significantly (completely overwhelmed), we probably won't be back for a while. Our advice: Make reservations a priority. Increase the service staff. Improve communication with the kitchen.

Beautiful wood-fired oven, indeed. But it feels outdated. The menu was a mess. Prices were too low, and the quality reflected that: minced meat doner and rice without butter. I know better, but then it has to cost more. There's a lack of nice vegetable dishes (like Imam). I had expected more. It has potential if the quality is improved.

This is where I ate my first kebab many years ago. Back then, it was a small corner shop, and the couple were still having fun, always cheerful and friendly. As often as we ate the "childhood kebab" as children and teenagers, the taste is burned into every brain cell. Unfortunately, we moved away at some point, so I didn't get to eat another kebab until many years later - today... It was truly awful. I'm not saying that to disparage the shop, because back then I gave it five stars. Back then, this kebab was unbeatable. The meat was just a pile of something. Some kind of minced meat mush that apparently didn't even deserve to be roasted. The sauces tasted of nothing. I've already left out the salad and other items because the careless service almost made me want to walk right back out. Phew... I'm so appalled that I'm at a loss for words. I have to give it a second star for old times' sake. The kebab didn't deserve it. I'll give it another try in a while and hope there's a happy ending. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the store because, like I said, it used to be amazing!

I only go there for kebabs and have never been disappointed. Fresh ingredients, good meat and the price is top.

Unfortunately, today I was very dissatisfied. The food was cold, but was changed without any problems, but it was still lukewarm. There should have been roasted onions, but nothing was served, mixed vegetables. They didn't even ask when the drinks were all gone or when paying if the food was tasty. Very unfriendly.

The people are friendly, the chef is cool. The restaurant has absolute charm, and the food is absolutely delicious, especially for the price. A 6-euro kebab is too good to be true. Unfortunately, it's closed on Mondays... The place is so big and attractive you could have a wedding or a party there.

I was here for the first time today, and I have to say, I'd love to come back! A very good selection of dishes, beautifully presented and delicious. The lentil soup that started it was a bit spicy for my taste, but still very flavorful. The doner meat topped with cheese was fantastic!

Very Disappointing Experience – Unacceptable Customer Service As tourists, we were extremely disappointed by the welcome we received at this restaurant. The cashier was particularly rude and unhelpful. She refused to show us the prices and showed no warmth or courtesy. Such behavior is unacceptable, especially toward customers visiting the country. It unfortunately ruined our meal. We do not recommend this establishment if you are looking for pleasant and respectful service.

Unfortunately, we were informed only after our drinks had been served that the oven wasn't on yet, meaning many of the dishes wouldn't be available. Very annoying, so we had to leave without eating; we weren't in the mood for a simple kebab.

Hello, Five of us went to this restaurant today. We had reserved a table that wasn't available, and when we finally sat down, we waited an hour before we could order food, and all we got was, "I'm sorry, I forgot about you." When the food finally arrived, three of the five noticed that the doner meat wasn't tasty and wasn't cooked properly. Even after complaining, there was no response or apology, and we had to pay the full price. The manager was busy with a private visitor, and when we left, she was still laughing very unfriendly. So, I absolutely cannot recommend this place and advise against it. 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

Good restaurant with friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. The food tasted good, I had the Patlican Kebab with eggplant, rice, salad and tomato sauce. You can also have fries instead of rice if you want. Everything is freshly prepared, you can taste it. Excellent quality. A lot of people pick up their food there at the counter in the entrance area, which also speaks for the quality. The prices are also fair. There was also a raki on the house, very nice. A visit there is worth it.

For years we have regularly enjoyed the high-quality, delicious Turkish cuisine in this restaurant and are always very satisfied.

I went to eat at the wood-fired oven with two friends today at 1 p.m. The food was truly first-class, with friendly and good service. Everything is served fresh. For me and my friends, this is the best kebab in Hamm. We're always happy to come back. Keep up the good work! Great!

It's always nice to eat Turkish food here. A tip: order the cold sauces in a separate container, otherwise they'll accidentally chill your food. :)

I have never eaten such a bad adana kebab as here and I have been to many restaurants but Holzofen has emerged as the worst restaurant out of all of them That was all but there was no lamb at the door. I also left a surprise. A photo is attached of the vomit (halfway through the plate I felt sick until I couldn't do it anymore) I wouldn't have had to wait 50 minutes for that kind of snot, I would definitely have managed it just as well at home as a man like this "restaurant" I would rather hunt and prepare my food outside like an Indian than eat there again I would rather throw the 70 euros out the window So if you don't want to pay money for puking, avoid the store There were 4 people there and everyone had stomach problems

Nach dem Handball lecker Essen. Was habe ich mich gefreut und dann solch eine Enttäuschung im Holzofen. Einen Tisch konnten wir uns aussuchen, trotz Reservierung war kein Schildchen platziert. Das ansonsten wirklich nette Restaurant machte dann am Platz einen Eindruck wie eine Frittenschmiede. Die Chefin hatte keine Lust auf Service, der Chef kümmerte sich um seinen eigenen Appetit, der junge Mann war wirklich nett und bemüht. Leider war der Grillteller nix, Fleisch kalt, Döner Kühlschrankkalt, Gemüse auch kalt. Ab in die Mikrowelle. Schaut mal nebenan bei Media, der Service einfach nett, dass Essen keine große Küche aber akzeptable, der Laden voll. Habt ihr keine Lust mehr?

We waited almost 40 minutes for our 2 kebab plates. Food was cold and that's how it tasted 🤮🤮🤮🤮. I'll never go there again, I'd rather go to Pizzeria Media next door, at least the price and performance speak the same language, including the taste

The food was very tasty. But because there was a lot going on, it didn't work out this time.

It used to be really great here. The only thing left is the owner. That's almost where it ends. It seemed as if it was a nuisance when we entered the restaurant yesterday afternoon because the boss didn't think it was necessary to come and serve us because the private visit was more important. When the table behind us filled up with several women who obviously had something to celebrate, you could almost see how the boss found her friendliness again because there was probably more sales in the air than the two of us. Despite the almost empty tables, it took an unusually long time until our food finally arrived. The quality of this was also significantly worse compared to last year. When we asked to order something to take away, the plates were torn from the table without a word. Short and sweet, my conclusion: The empty tables spoke for themselves, they won't see me again.

Very nice atmosphere. The staff immediately put a few tables together so that nine of us could sit there. Before we could order, 20 minutes had passed and we waited about 40 minutes for the food, and that was with moderate activity. When we were eating, we noticed that there was no difference if you ordered something large or small. It was the same amount everywhere. Even a little less on the same plate than on the other. Warm food is on the agenda there, but really only lukewarm, one was even cold. It's a shame, I had promised more of it and I hope it was just a one-time incident.

For me personally the worst kebab taste in Hamm. The bread was dry, had the feeling that there were no spices in it, it didn't taste like anything. You can't speak of the service here, unfriendly, stroppy and there's no more Lahmacun at 7 p.m., a bit strange. I would say that the number of customers was a little more than normal, but in my opinion you must have prepared something like that or am I wrong? The ambience was nice to look at but that was it. You could clean it a little more intensively. I will not enter this restaurant again, it's a shame.

The food was good (although we got fries instead of the rice we ordered, which was then brought). However, the service was very poor, neither we nor other guests in the restaurant were asked if we would like something to drink, especially in the current heat. Empty glasses remained on the neighboring tables for a long time, even though the guests had been gone for some time. They preferred to chat with the visitors and seemed a bit annoyed when we asked again for drinks. What a shame!

Due to a lack of alternatives (everyone else is on vacation), I decided to try again after a year with one or two kebabs (one for me and one for my girlfriend). What can I say? Let me start with the service first. You immediately noticed that everyone else had it. Otherwise there's never anything going on there... I live right around the corner and see it every day. It started when I was standing in line. The woman (I think that's the owner) was wildly discussing with one of her employees which table still needed to be served and who hadn't paid yet. The guests were called “the strange two in front”. In my opinion, it doesn't work at all. This continued like this for a few more minutes. When she noticed that the snake was getting longer and longer, she rushed to help the man who was clearly trying to clear the snake. During that time I took a look at the rotisserie. It was dripping with fat and I actually wanted to leave. But my hunger kept me there. When I finally brought my two kebabs home after more than half an hour, the tasting took place. And guys, I have to say that was a really bad kebab. The meat was fatty, unseasoned and quite gristly. When the food chews back I find it really disgusting. The sauces were quite tasteless. My girlfriend didn't like it either and stopped eating halfway through. People, skip this kebab and get something to eat somewhere else. I regret leaving my money there. It can't be that hard to make a good kebab. Others can do it too. My conclusion: I won't go there anymore and will advise anyone who asks me not to

The food was ok. We had a kebab plate, a kebab bag and baked kebab meat with fries and salad. Despite asking, I didn't receive the salad. It took a lot of time. Everyone was very overwhelmed, so there was hardly any service.

We were there for dinner about 2 weeks ago with the whole family (children). Unfortunately, the tables outside weren't clean, the floor wasn't swept, there were cobwebs and bugs everywhere at the windows where the tables were, and my son had to sit down. We had soup as a starter and the children ordered something else. We had to wait 20 minutes for the soup and almost an hour for the main meal. Unfortunately my children had to wait almost an hour for their food because they didn't come with the soup but with the main meal, which was too long for us. How can you explain to small children that they have to wait...?! Overall, the soup was OK but the food wasn't salty at all and we didn't like it. Unfortunately 1 and last time………

Best kebab north of the Bosphorus. But “more elegant” Turkish dishes also taste very good. Warm, almost family-like service!

I was there again after a long time and can still recommend this location with a clear conscience. The food is delicious and the people are nice and friendly. There are also good parking options around the restaurant. By the way, there is not only the opportunity to eat in the restaurant but also to have the usual dishes (such as kebab) taken away.

Here I can not only praise the prices and the extremely good taste and quality, but also the comfortable seating, nice ambience and an aesthetically pleasing restaurant. Most of the employees are also very friendly and competent. I can only recommend this restaurant and I will definitely come back!

Damn big pizza. Waiter is not very smart, after a large beer 0.5 liter he asks if we want a small beer. We forgive him because it's Easter and he had a round of company beer. After A somewhat bald man and his specialized mountain bike and his wife. Which cannot be peeked at. The pizza tastes fantastic. If we ever come back...we would definitely come here again.

We just wanted a kebab to take home. We were actually always satisfied, but that is no longer the case from now on. Bread was totally soggy, meat was soggy and everything tasted like nothing. The meat wasn't seasoned well, there was hardly any sauce and it wasn't seasoned either, so it's no longer recommended for kebabs. Service wasn't that friendly either :(

Very disappointing experience in the restaurant. The soup was still raw and the bulgur wasn't cooked through. The sigara böreks were full of oil flavor and the service was unfriendly. We had ordered meze but they were no longer available (at 2pm). The wood stove wasn't on yet. Overall the food and service was a big disappointment. We definitely won't be coming back. Prices are unfortunately overpriced compared to the service.

Wir waren gestern Abend zu Besuch in dem Lokal. Zwar spontan aber es war auch nicht zu voll dort. Wir mussten leider eine Stunde auf unser Essen warten was ich persönlich zu lange finde. Den Unterschied zwischen einem kleinen und einem großen Döner Teller konnte ich leider nicht feststellen außer am Preis. Das finde ich sehr schade . Ich war vor Jahren schon Mal dort die ein oder andere Döner Tasche essen welche ich immer gut fand aber vor Ort essen war nicht sehr zu empfehlen . Schade . Dennoch muss ich sagen das das Essen geschmeckt hat

Wir waren dort um zu Abend zu essen. Schönes Ambiente und sehr freundliches zuvorkommendes Personal. Bestellt haben wir einen Döner Teller mit Pommes und eine Salattasche. Das Brot war sehr gut und der Salat deinen sehr knackig. Die Pommes beim Döner Teller waren optimal und nicht übersalzen. Fleisch und Soße waren sehr gut. Kann das Restaurant absolut empfehlen. Sehr gute türkische Küche.

Das ist ein richtig guter und immer stark besuchter "Geheimtip" von einem türkischen Restaurant. Sonst schreib ich immer so viel. Aber das werde ich jetzt mal nicht tun, denn man sollte sich einfach selbst überzeugen: Von den wirklich sehr netten Mitarbeitern, dem tollen Ambiente, sehr schönen Stimmung und vor allem dem wirklich guten Essen, an dem ich echt toll finde, dass man hier auch mal was anderes auf der Speisekarte findet, als man es sonst immer so gewohnt ist, ist das eine Top Lokalität, die schon Viele vor mir entdeckt zu haben scheinen. Da dies Restaurant leicht zu übersehen ist, ist mir das nämlich erst vor kurzem aufgefallen und ich war somit erst vor kurzem das erste und nicht letzte Mal dort. Mittlerweile, in einer für uns kurzen Zeit nun schon mehrmals dort bestellt. Auch meine Kinder lieben das Essen dort. Alles immer frisch und qualitativ hochwertig. Und trotzdem schaffen sie es, trotz diesem tollen Niveau echt günstige Preise zu haben, das sollte man mit etwas Trinkgeld honorieren, wenn möglich.

Ich war jetzt insgesamt 3 mal mit einer größeren Personenanzahl hier essen. Das Essen ist super lecker, aber leider darf an dem Service und der Freundlichkeit echt noch viel dran gearbeitet werden. Teilweise kam falsches Essen, dann wiederum hatte Jemand gar kein Essen, während die Mehrzahl schon ihre Mahlzeit genießen konnte. Das Personal schien überfordert und die Chefin verdrehte die Augen, wenn man sich nicht richtig ausdrücken konnte oder sich noch nicht entschieden hatte. Sehr schade, da das Essen wirklich lecker war.
