We ordered 4 different dishes here and each of the 4 dishes was simply delicious. Unfortunately, quality also has its price.

We spontaneously went here to eat and were very satisfied with the quality of the food. We chose the roast venison and roulade with dumplings. The food was very tasty and cooked to perfection. We recommend!

We were at the Grünes Tor restaurant in mid-June 2024. We had reserved a table in advance and unfortunately had to move it again. This was all possible without any problems. We found parking right in front of the door. A very friendly service employee greeted us immediately and accompanied us to our table. The selection of dishes offers dishes for both vegetarians and all meat lovers. In our opinion, the price ratio is very good and the drinks also offer a very good selection and are not overpriced. We liked it and had a great evening.

We came here to eat twice in a row. We are completely happy with this restaurant. The ambience is something special, you have to see it. There is still one point of criticism, Unfortunately the online menu is not up to date. This is a pity.

Order steak with asparagus. The steak was so tough you couldn't cut it let alone eat it. My wife had the same problem. But pay full price for a real steak. You cannot sell the steak we received as steak. In Really a shame about my money.

We were guests here in March Ambiance: You come into the restaurant through an inconspicuous corridor, through an inner courtyard. When you arrive at the restaurant you will find a counter and plenty of seating options. The look of the store itself was somewhere between a pub and a restaurant. I thought it was very good 5/5 Service: We were spoken to straight away when we entered, the staff were very attentive from ordering to paying. Unfortunately, the small salad that I had ordered as a starter was served as a side dish to the main course.5/5 Eat: The food was very good, I ordered and received a steak medium rare, the fried vegetables that came with it were still crunchy and colorful. A salad that was also freshly made and was good. I thought it was a shame that you had to order a small salad for a whopping 6.50 euros, which was just as big as a tea cup. There are also many types of beer to choose from and usually the glass that goes with it, which I thought was good.5/5 Conclusion: A nice pub, with good food and a large selection of beer. Clear recommendation.

We “landed” at the Green Gate on the recommendation of a passerby we approached on the street and were pleasantly surprised. Wonderful food, in a great ambience and great staff, if ever again in Schmalkalden, then definitely with you again. Thank you and best regards

Very nice atmosphere - even with an inner courtyard. The food was very tasty and you could try your way through 33 types of beer.

Architecturally reminiscent of Phantasialand and the background music of Wacken. By the way, it happens a lot in Schmalkalden, people seem to have a pretty high affinity for heavy metal here. None of this detracts from the comfort. And if so, the friendly and attentive service, the really fantastic food and the very fair price-performance ratio more than make up for any shortcomings. I stayed here three times during my stay at the hotel next door. One vegetarian, one hearty Thuringian and one locally farmed fish. Everything is great!

Unfortunately we were very disappointed yesterday, we waited 1 hour for a starter (soup) which then almost arrived. After 1:45 hours the main course arrived and the staff was completely overwhelmed. Other guests who arrived later had their food long before us. Information from the waitress, he can't influence who gets his food first, that means whoever shows up at 6:00 p.m. gets their food at 8:00 p.m. and whoever shows up at 7:00 p.m. gets their food at 7:30 p.m., hmmmm. We also found it poor that the staff was not very visible. The service was very poor, except for the bill, which came quickly, but we still had drinks on it that we hadn't consumed. Overall, not again. Ambience great!

A very pleasant atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Rostbrätel with fried potatoes was very tasty. For me personally, the potatoes could have been fried a little crispier.

Really great restaurant: rustic ambience in a vaulted cellar and fine Thuringian cuisine. But only for locals! Blonde and blue-eyed guests from other federal states and/or locals with a migrant background are unnecessarily placed in a bare, poorly heated side room and are only served carelessly.

I still know the facility from before, when it was still the Spiderfax, but now the pots, pans and records on the ceiling are missing 😊. But it is comfortably furnished with a few nice corners and niches where you can also spend time together. The service is very polite and concerned about the well-being of the guest. As far as the food is concerned, I give it a real 5 stars, where the selection on the menu says "something" doesn't mean that there's nothing on it that could be expanded to include a few dishes. The range of beers on offer is sure to suit everyone. Now comes a “but” unfortunately this restaurant is not for people with walking disabilities, it may be that a few places are accessible but unfortunately not all. There is also a nice bar to relax in. The restaurant is kept very clean. Conclusion This restaurant is really highly recommended, it's great fun to stay in it. I wish you many more guests

I have always liked the unusual, rustic and cozy atmosphere at the Grüner Tor as well as the friendly service. The only thing that would be desirable is an expansion of the plant-based offering, as there is a lot of meat on the menu and only one vegetarian dish. You won't find a proper vegan meal here. Otherwise, definitely one of the more interesting restaurant options in the area 😊

You sit very comfortably, e.g. B. like us in a romantic grotto. The service is very friendly. There are many types of beer and original, hearty Thuringian cuisine. Overall, highly recommended.

Essen war sehr lecker und das Ambiente sehr,sehr gemütlich.

Wir waren zu einem Geburtstag eingeladen. In dem sehr schön dekorierten Restaurant haben wir ein Separee für unsere Geburtstagsrunde erhalten. Wir fühlten uns von dem Personal des Restaurants gut umsorgt. Ich habe mich beim Essen für das Rote-Bete-Carpaccio und den Schweinebauch entschieden. Vielen Dank an den kreativen Koch, was er aus so "einfachen" Zutaten wie Schweinebauch,Sellerie und Rote Bete gezaubert hat. Der Schweinebauch war durch die Zubereitungsart so zart, das Sellerie Püree köstlich. Die dunkle, kräftige Soße mit den Seitlingen passte hervorragend dazu. Das Carpaccio wurde mit Feldsalat, leicht karamellisierten Walnüssen und Granatapfelkernen serviert. Das Essen war ein Genuss.

Zu unseren Jahrestagen und auch sonst das Restaurant unserer Wahl. Bisher war alles und jederzeit zur vollsten Zufriedenheit. Klare Empfehlung und einfach ein wunderschöner Ort.

Seit Jahren eine fixe Größe in Schmalkalden. Sehr angenehmes, zu Schmalkalden passendes Lokal mit super schönen Ambiente. Toller Innen Vorhof zum Restaurant, schön verwinkelt gelegene kleine Räume zum Essen mit einen gewissen Flair an Privatsphäre und angenehmes Klima. Die Einrichtung ist sehr gemütlich, gepaart mit dem Historische Feeling und die wirklich angenehmen Sitzmöglichkeiten in den kleinen Nischen ist das Konzept phänomenal schön. Speisen & Getränke fügen sich hier optimal ein zu einen guten Preis Leistungsverhältnis. Der Service dauert manchmal ein wenig aufgrund der Größe & des verwinkelten Aufbaues, was jedoch in keinster Weise unangenehm für uns war. Die Freundlichkeit der Bedienung ist authentisch und aufgrund der Gegebenheiten inklusive des hohen Gästeaufkommen sollte hier etwas Nachsicht seitens Besucher entgegen gebracht werden.

Das grüne Tor ist eine echte gemütliche Attraktion im Verhältnis zu den anderen Gaststätten.

Das Gasthaus hat einen sehr schönen Haupteingang, leider hat uns das Navi zuerst zum Hintereingang geschickt, es stand aber ein Hinweis auf der Türe, wo sich der Eingang befindet. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und obwohl wir keinen Tisch reserviert hatten, fand sich ein Tisch in der Grotte, mit Stalaktiten und Wassergeplätscher. Das Innere ist absolut sehenswert! Das Essen ist was für Fleischliebhaber, vegetarische Gerichte gibt's auch, aber wenig Auswahl. Wir hatten Roulade, Bratensauce mit Thüringer Klößen und Rotkohl. Die Klöße fand ich etwas zu weich, geschmacklich aber gut. Das zweite Gericht war Steak au four, darauf Würzfleisch mit Käse überbacken an Pommes frites. Die Toiletten befinden sich eine Etage höher, haben aber einen extrem schmalen Eingang, nichts für Menschen mit Beeinträchtigungen und Rollator. Bedienung war jung und um keine Antwort verlegen, hat sich sehr gut um uns gekümmert. Etwas störend fand ich die Raucher im Eingangsbereich, da wir selber nicht rauchen, ist das etwas unangenehm, im Qualm das Lokal zu betreten. Wir kommen trotzdem gerne wieder, denn insgesamt lohnt es sich hierher zu kommen.

Sehr gutes Essen in einer außergewöhnlichen sowie beeindruckenden Location. Leider war unter der Woche um 18:30 Uhr schon das Wild aus und wir mussten recht lange auf unsere Hauptgerichte warten, aber dennoch hat sich das Warten "geschmacklich" auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Die Preise sind für die Qualität und die Portionen völlig angemessen. Fazit: definitiv zu empfehlen 👌🏼

Hallo zusammen, das Restaurant Grünes Tor gehört zu einen der guten Restaurants in Schmalkalden. Es ist ein Ambiente von einem urischen Hopfenhof mit einer Vielfalt an Biersorten. Gute Hausmannskost mit einem guten Preis Leistungsverhältnis. So jetzt kennt Ihr meine Meinung, was Ihr daraus macht liegt ganz bei euch. LG David

Die Location ist wirklich einmalig. Der Service war absolut Top, sehr junges Team. Unser Essen war Klasse, preislich absolut fair!

Essen war okay. Aber eben nur okay! Ein wenig Pep und Raffinesse hat gefehlt. Fand es jetzt nicht außergewöhnlich gut. Amuse gueule war spitze. Bedienung ist sehr freundlich. Würde mir noch ein wenig mehr Auswahl bei den Hauptspeisen wünschen. Ambiente ist einzigartig. Preise sind angemessen.
