Restaurant Forsthaus in Krefeld

We've been there twice now... The first time the food was delicious... the second time it tasted like something from a cheap chip shop. For example, the schnitzel with peppers... The schnitzel tasted like it had been pressed and the peppers tasted like they'd come from a jar and just been warmed up... awful... We're never going back... Sorry I have to write it like this. An acquaintance of mine also had schnitzel... They were just as disgusting... Then two other people had mushrooms with bacon... The mushrooms were watery and the bacon wasn't crispy at all. We were expecting something completely different.

This was our second visit to the Forsthaus. The first time was for a funeral reception, which we had reserved in writing for 25 people. However, the table was set for 35, and we were informed in a rather unfriendly and snide manner that there was a significant difference in cost. We were indeed only charged for 25 people. Today, the four of us went for lunch, ordering four different dishes. None of them were perfect. The roulade was missing the red cabbage, and the potatoes were ice cold. The mushroom cream schnitzel had plenty of mushrooms but hardly any sauce. The tiny side of fried potatoes was completely oversalted, as was the schnitzel served with the "Gutsherrenart" (manorial-style) schnitzel, which was very good except for the accompanying sauce. The sauce was so thick that a spoon stood upright in it and was far too sweet. The "Geschnetzeltes Züricher Art" (Zurich-style sliced ​​veal) was an absolute joke: three rösti stacked on top of each other with about 100g of meat, for over €20. The service was attentive but quite slow; we had to wait a long time for everything, and the friendliness left much to be desired. Our conclusion is that the food itself was okay but nothing special, and for the price, you can eat better elsewhere. The interior ambiance is very nicely designed, but it's so loud that normal conversation is almost impossible. It's a shame; we were really looking forward to the new Forsthaus, but we won't be coming back.

We celebrated my mother's 85th birthday at this venue in October – unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience for us and our 33 guests. Despite clear prior arrangements by phone, the soup was supposed to be served at 12:30 pm, but it didn't arrive until 1:45 pm, and the buffet wasn't ready until 2:15 pm. The buffet itself was poorly organized: the containers were far too small, several dishes ran out after only a few guests, and refilling each one took about 30 minutes. The hygiene conditions were absolutely unacceptable: the men's restroom was overflowing, the entire room was filthy, and our complaint was ignored – it wasn't cleaned during our stay. The women's restroom also had no toilet paper. The event was clearly understaffed. Most of the time, there was only one waitress on duty, who, while trying her best, was visibly overwhelmed. The ending was the final straw: Starting at 4:30 p.m., we were unceremoniously ushered out, tables were cleared and rearranged – without a single word being spoken to us. For a family celebration of this occasion and importance, the overall experience was more than disappointing. This is not how one imagines a proper birthday party.

Just got out of the Forsthaus. 9:08 PM, December 19, 2025. Food was great, table service was excellent, lovely woman. BUT the man behind the counter has no manners. Since my family knew where we were sitting, they walked right through, and the man shouted after them, "You can't go in without saying hello!" Absolutely outrageous! And he's the first guy you see behind the counter. This one star, for the service, is for him ;) When we left, we ALL politely said goodbye, and that still wasn't enough for him. What a shame. Merry Christmas. 🫠

A lovely atmosphere with excellent food, but unfortunately, the service was very poor. First, our freshly prepared appetizer plates were dirty and were replaced without comment when we pointed it out. The waiter seemed disinterested and listless throughout the evening, at times even unfriendly. When we ordered our main course, the order was incorrectly noted and only corrected after we asked a colleague, as we found it odd that we hadn't been asked how we wanted our steak cooked. When we ordered a Coke Zero, a regular Coke was brought to us. To top it all off, the food we were supposed to take away was thrown out, and we only received a perfunctory apology. Despite the truly delicious food, we don't want to experience the service and the wait to pay (almost 25 minutes) again. It's worth noting that there were "only" three other tables occupied at the time. A real shame.

Unfortunately, our birthday party, which had been booked weeks in advance, was cancelled at very short notice due to a private event. I've never experienced such rudeness.

I had a lovely evening there. The ambiance was very nice. The staff was excellent. The drinks were delicious. And now for the downside. The quality of the food was top-notch, but I'm a gourmand who likes things very flavorful. And here, I unfortunately have to say that the food was very bland. Perhaps this was due to the fact that it was a very busy evening. What also led to the point deduction was that the crème brûlée wasn't crispy, i.e., not caramelized.

We were very satisfied so far and have been there often since the reopening; good food, also great cakes, mostly friendly service and above all a lovely atmosphere outside, but: we were recently turned away at short notice with a large group despite having made a reservation weeks in advance and receiving a reminder with confirmation (!) just two days ago due to a private event.

We were there on a Saturday and the restaurant was very busy. Despite that, everything worked perfectly. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all excellent...we'll definitely be back.

We last visited the Forsthaus restaurant at the beginning of October 2025 and were very satisfied. Now, on December 3rd, the two of us wanted to eat there at short notice at 2 pm. A quick phone call confirmed we didn't need a reservation. We had a bit of a drive, and when we arrived, there was a sign stating that since October 25th, they only accepted card payments. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we couldn't find another restaurant. I felt very embarrassed asking my companion if she could pay by card upfront, as I had treated her and wanted to pay in cash. My conclusion about the restaurant visit: I will not eat there again, as I complained about the long wait times for ordering and payment, even though there weren't many tables occupied. I also don't want to be told how to pay my bill. I can only chuckle at the Forsthaus website's information regarding the switch to card payments only. I didn't notice any improvement from paying by card... quite the opposite.

It was very tasty. The service was polite and friendly. The food arrived relatively quickly and was still hot. The price-performance ratio was also good. Why only 4 stars? The drink prices were a bit too high. The service was inattentive. A faucet in the restroom was broken, and it was much too noisy. The acoustics could be significantly improved so that people with hearing difficulties can hear better.

We had dinner with friends in the new restaurant for the first time today. It was very good, the food and service were excellent, the only thing that could be improved was the noise level, especially when it's as busy as it was tonight. Keep it up, we'll definitely be back! 👌

Overall, it was a lovely evening. The food was truly excellent. The service was very friendly and initially quite efficient. However, as the restaurant became more crowded towards the end, the last two drinks and the bill took a very long time to arrive. This was a real shame, as it would otherwise have been a perfect evening. Nevertheless, we would gladly return.

We went there for lunch last week and were very disappointed. The room temperature was a maximum of 19 degrees Celsius, so it was very cold and drafty. Several guests were sitting at the table wearing their winter jackets. The staff tried their best, but couldn't do anything about the temperature. The food was served lukewarm. The tagliatelle was swimming in grease, and the broccoli was very hard. At the next table, someone was complaining about overcooked potatoes... It's a shame we had to have this experience.

Our reservation for Saturday was cancelled today, three days in advance, due to a "private event." Whether this is utterly unprofessional or simply a complete disregard for the customer is up to you. That was our first experience.

We attended the funeral reception. It had been agreed that goulash soup would be served first, followed by a traditional Rhineland coffee and cake spread. Bread baskets were placed on the tables first. We waited over half an hour for the goulash soup, which was always served in three cups; the last guests waited at least another fifteen minutes. The white rolls (advertised as fresh from the bakery) were definitely from the day before. After complaining, fresh ones were baked, so they were essentially pre-baked rolls! This was followed by small bowls of pre-packaged jam and expired Nutella; homemade spreads had been promised. Still, no one could eat. We waited first for butter, then even longer for platters of cold cuts, and finally, after another fifteen minutes, the cheese arrived. The quality of the cold cuts was good, but there was no garnish whatsoever (tomato, cucumber, remoulade). Liverwurst and roast pork were also missing. These were served with a variety of tomato sauces, cucumbers, and other garnishes. After a quarter of the guests had left, pieces of cake of mediocre quality arrived at the table. The service was friendly, but completely overwhelmed, which was due to the impossible organization. For the price we were expected to pay, it was unacceptable, even though the Firsthaus has a beautiful ambiance. As hosts, the afternoon was simply embarrassing; we had to apologize to our guests repeatedly. That can't be the purpose of such an event, where one simply wants to unwind and relax after the funeral service.

A Taste of the Forsthaus 1838 in Tönisforst For many years, the former Forsthaus Werner was a familiar place to me – appreciated for its generous buffet, which always offered excellent value for money. After being taken over by a new owner, the traditional establishment has undergone significant changes. Together with a friend, we wanted to experience the new Forsthaus. The former rustic ambiance has given way to an elegant, modern style, where it's clear that the investment was made with taste and a sense of quality. A particular highlight: the comfortable, superbly upholstered chairs, perfect for lingering. The new concept is a culinary success across the board. My calf's liver "Berlin style" was remarkably tender and cooked to perfection – one of the best I've had in a long time. My companion's sauerbraten, accompanied by red cabbage and roast potatoes, was equally impressive. The portions are generous, and the kitchen operates at a high level. The new concept is a complete success in terms of cuisine. The service was less than ideal: friendly, but still uncertain, and with noticeable gaps in knowledge of the drinks menu. Particularly disruptive, however, was the enormous noise level in the dining room, caused by a boisterous group of four women who constantly shrieked and laughed extremely loudly. Their behavior was met with more amusement than intervention from the staff. This also made several other guests uncomfortable. My comment about it went unheeded by both the server and the owner, who was present. Furthermore, the acoustics in this relatively large room definitely need improvement. A fly in the ointment in an otherwise very promising overall experience. If the service and attention to guests can be raised to the level of the cuisine, the new Forsthaus Werner has the potential not only to recapture its former popularity but to surpass it.

After two visits, each including a meal, we would like to comment on the following. The renovation is very well done, and a modern feel has definitely taken hold. The mustiness of bygone days is gone. The outdoor terrace is inviting and perfect for relaxing and chatting. Unfortunately, the food, which isn't exactly cheap, is of a quality and preparation on par with a typical village pub and, like the service, failed to impress. Professionalism and friendliness are lacking. In summary, only the redesign and the outdoor terrace left a positive impression. It's certainly a nice place to enjoy a cold beer in the summer – but that's about it.

Unfortunately, we had to wait 1.5 hours for our soup, which was a really long time. This somewhat dampened the start of the meal. Nevertheless, the service was very friendly and attentive, and when the food finally arrived, it tasted truly delicious. With a little better organization, it would certainly have been a truly wonderful experience.

Four of us were at the Forsthaus. Everyone really enjoyed the food. And we agreed that we would eat there again. Until I had to go to the bathroom. (Luckily after the meal!!) Phew, those images have to be gotten out of our heads. Worse than any portable toilet at a festival. I don't know what happened. And why? On top of that, the doors were broken, and two of the three toilets couldn't be locked. Unfortunately, the waitresses weren't listening, and my comment about the disgusting toilets was quickly dismissed. (Yes, I know, it was crowded and hectic, but you have to set priorities.) It's a shame, but I personally can't eat there anymore.

Super delicious food, fantastic location & service! We celebrated our wedding here last Saturday, and the Forsthaus played a key role in making this day simply perfect! All our expectations were exceeded! Our guests were also thrilled with the food, the fantastic location, and the beautiful surroundings. A heartfelt thank you to Stefan and the entire team ❤️

This was our first time there. Conclusion: A very nice location, good food, and, most notably, very good and pleasant service. We'd gladly return!

The rooms are spacious. The food and service were outstanding. Everything was perfect. All the guests at my party were thrilled.

So far, I've only known the "old" Forsthaus. Delicious and reasonably priced. I'll probably visit in October to try the new one.

We had to wait over an hour for the food. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the rather high price. Furthermore, the restroom situation was unbelievable: the men's restroom was completely closed because it was "broken," one of the three women's restroom stalls was closed for the same reason, and the other two couldn't be locked because the latches were broken. In the accessible restroom, the water almost didn't drain after flushing, and there were no towels! Unfortunately, this was our first and last time here!

There were three of us and we had a table near the front. The young waitress was very attentive and courteous. The food was exquisite. There was absolutely nothing to complain about.

Unfortunately, the portion on the fish platter was much too small for the price, but the fish was delicious. The Classic Burger was a frozen patty, which you could taste right away. We politely told the waitress this, and she took it kindly. Of course, I don't come to the Forsthaus for a burger, but then they should have removed burgers from the menu and perhaps offered more poultry or game instead of a patty that isn't homemade. It's a real shame, because the rest of the menu unfortunately didn't appeal to us. As I said, there was hardly any choice in the poultry department. The service was very hectic; perhaps it was particularly busy today, but the atmosphere seemed very rushed to us.... The restaurant itself is nice.

My son celebrated his wedding there on September 6, 2025, and I have to say that my wife, I, and the wedding guests are full of praise for the venue. Although it was a private gathering, we can only give it 5 stars for the ambiance, the food, and the service. From start to finish, the service was excellent. Drinks were even served on the dance floor upon request. Other requests from the guests were also fulfilled very quickly. The buffet-style food prepared by the kitchen also met all expectations. From the pork cheek to the dessert, everything was top-notch. For us as a group, it's clear that this was not our first, nor will it be our last, visit to Forsthaus 1838. We would like to thank the Forsthaus team again.

Service was very rude. The food arrived after 1.5 hours. The salad was soggy. The fried potatoes had no salt. The aspic had no seasoning. The dip was completely lacking in horseradish. We wouldn't come back.

We celebrated our wedding at this venue in August – and we truly didn't miss a thing. The service was extremely professional, all the staff were consistently friendly, and the food was simply 10/10. We were also provided with drinks at all times. The value for money is top-notch – an all-around outstanding service. We would especially like to highlight Managing Director Stefan: very competent, reliable, and open to any discussion. All of our planning requests were taken into account and implemented. Thank you again for this unforgettable day!

Very good food, renovation not yet completely finished, good vegan selection

We were there again today for our wedding anniversary. The food (savoy cabbage rolls and sauerbraten) was truly delicious, as was the Pinot Gris. Very friendly and attentive waiters... The truly beautiful, high-quality ambiance and the incredibly beautiful outdoor terrace are truly impressive and second to none. It would be nice if there was some light background lounge music, and cool live music like on Valentine's Day would make the visit perfect. We will continue to advertise heavily, because such a beautiful location deserves it!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been to the Forsthaus in at least 30 years, and now I was there today and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious. I had a schnitzel, traditionally served with a fried egg, bacon, and onions. It came with a mixed salad. For dessert, I had Kaiserschmarrn. All in all, it was well worth it.

The food was okay, but the portions were very small. The service was absolutely terrible! We waited an hour for the food. Drinks took at least 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it completely ruined the meal.

We ate at the Forsthaus with our family about two weeks ago and were absolutely thrilled. The service staff did a fantastic job! Very friendly and accommodating! The food was truly delicious – I haven't eaten such good fish in a long time, and even the vegetarians in the family enjoyed themselves. The only negative was the noise level when the restaurant was full (!), but you have to expect that. Besides, a full restaurant is definitely a plus for the restaurant ;) We'd love to go back!

The service is friendly, but the overall flow is chaotic. The quality of the food is average. Furthermore, it's unacceptable that dishes are offered with dumplings, but you only get potatoes. When asked, the answer is that they're out of dumplings. This is a warning that should be given beforehand. Special salads are also forgotten and only brought out upon request. Perhaps it was a bad day for everyone there, but that shouldn't be allowed in a restaurant.

The waitress was very friendly, but unfortunately we had to wait a bit longer for our first order. Two of the four meals were unfortunately only lukewarm, but they acted immediately and brought us new ones. The food was very tasty, though. The renovation has improved the restaurant's appearance, but the open-plan layout is now a bit noisy. Overall, there's still room for improvement, but it's definitely worth a visit.

I highly recommend this restaurant. It's also suitable for large groups, as several rooms and an outdoor area invite you to linger and enjoy.

A better rating would have been due to the waiter assigned to the table, which I can't say about the other staff.

The decor is tastefully chosen and allows you to leave everyday life behind for a few hours. I would also like to particularly highlight the service: The staff was witty, friendly, and always committed to providing guests with a perfect experience. You felt completely in good hands. All in all, a fantastic restaurant that I highly recommend to anyone – whether for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself. I will definitely be back!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! I really liked this place and had fond memories of it before the renovation and change of ownership. Unfortunately, the only positive thing about the place now is its beautiful surroundings. The service is a complete disgrace. I can't recall a restaurant where the waiters' behavior was so appalling. I believe that four of the six waiters who served us shouldn't be in this profession. Upon entering the room, a rude lady scolded us for wanting to see the newly renovated room before we sat down. The oldest waitress approached our table and tried to take our order without first giving her the menu. After informing her that we wanted to see the menu first, she handed us one for three people. We ordered two chocolates: one with cream and one without, plus one black coffee. The oldest waiter brought our order. We pointed out that one of the chocolates was supposed to be with cream, and he insisted otherwise and began to arrange the order. He started with his coffee, which he slammed on the table so hard that a third of it spilled onto the table and saucer. The waiter, without offering to replace the coffee, handed us napkins so we could clean it up ourselves. He certainly could have cleaned it up himself, as the restaurant was almost empty. The atmosphere was very tense and unpleasant. Most of the staff send signals as if customers are unwelcome. I'd like to point out that I've worked in two restaurants and haven't seen similar behavior from staff towards customers. I'm truly sorry, as I used to like this place, and with the current atmosphere, I have no desire to go there again.

It's great that the Forsthaus has reopened and has been so beautifully modernized, even if a lot of things weren't finished with the reopening, and even now, in the very nice outdoor area, there's still a bit of work to be done. The food is very tasty, down-to-earth, not haute cuisine, and good value for money. We've eaten there several times now, with groups of varying sizes. Unfortunately, the service is a bit chaotic, at times unfriendly and rude. Even though some of the staff are friendly and helpful, we've unfortunately left once again with the conclusion: "It's a shame, but things should have settled down by now. This isn't okay."

Today was our first visit to the Forsthaus: a very nice atmosphere, a very friendly waitress. Unfortunately, we had to change tables when the food arrived (miscoordinated). We had schnitzel and a burger, but the food was cold. The salad we ordered wasn't there, and the other one was wrong. My burger bun was dry and cold even on the second attempt. No one outside asked us if we wanted drinks or if we were happy or wanted anything else. It's a shame; we had hoped for more!

Completely satisfied package ❤️ Customer-oriented service staff, excellent seasonal cuisine at reasonable prices, and a truly priceless ambiance with a Mediterranean terrace directly adjacent to the game reserve. An added bonus: dogs are also ❤️ welcome. Highly recommended 👌.

We went there for dinner with the family last night. The service was very friendly and even repeated the drinks for my father. Due to the number of guests, it was a bit noisy. The food was excellent! From the soup to the dessert!! We'd love to come back!

We wanted to try an ice cream sundae at your place today because we really enjoyed it on our last visit. Unfortunately, today it was a complete disaster. At first, the waiter present today didn't pay any attention to us at all. When we asked if there was a table available for two or if we could just sit down, he just pointed to a table and said, "snippily," "There you are!" I accepted it and sat down. Then I took the ice cream menu and wanted to choose something. Then the waiter literally came from behind me and practically ripped the ice cream menu out of my hand, saying in a very unfriendly and irritated tone: "The ice cream machine is broken. They only serve coffee or something else. What do we want then?" After that, my wife and I immediately decided to leave the place. Hopefully, the next time this waiter isn't there, and we'll be greeted and served in a friendly manner.

Not recommended, as they seem to be overwhelmed with even the simplest things like organizing and reserving a table! Despite a written confirmation (from June), we were canceled now, one week before the event!! The promise on the website, "We will turn your event into an unforgettable experience," takes on a whole new meaning! A no-show fee for guests is possible, and what if the restaurant cancels at short notice?? Simply not going is probably the best solution. We don't want to rely on such unreliability anymore! There are other restaurants! P.S. I had to give it one star because otherwise my post wouldn't have been posted.

We stumbled upon the Forsthaus quite by chance, and what awaited us absolutely thrilled us. Nothing remains of the old, dusty atmosphere. Now it's a chic, modern restaurant with a beautiful terrace where even young people feel at home. The food was excellent. In addition to classics like schnitzel and Sauerbraten, you'll also find new dishes here. And there's also a very good selection for vegetarians. The service staff was very friendly, courteous, and attentive. We felt completely at home and will definitely be back. I could imagine it becoming our new favorite restaurant.

I reserved a table online, including a special request. This was carried out to my complete satisfaction. I can only say that we were extremely satisfied from start to finish. Great location, incredibly delicious food, and friendly service. We would definitely be happy to come back anytime.

We went out to eat with the family today. It was really nice and we sat outside. I highly recommend it. We made a reservation online. They even called us and asked if it would be okay to sit outside given the nice weather. The food was also very tasty. I highly recommend the schnitzel.

After a truly emergency renovation, it's become very nice. Good food. Unfortunately, the cake counter isn't as good as it used to be. But it's still a good place to eat.

Yesterday we visited the Forsthaus for the first time since the renovations. We were thrilled with the food and friendly service. We'd love to come back and will recommend it to others.

Very nice restaurant, large selection of dishes and very tasty

Good food, okay service We had lunch, and upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that many tables hadn't been cleared of dirty dishes. Overall, the service seemed overwhelmed. The chanterelle soup was well-cooked, the savoy cabbage roll was delicious (the savoy cabbage was a bit soft and colorless). The Königsberger meatballs were well-made with mashed potatoes and beetroot and apple salad in sour cream. Several tables around us complained about the service, although the young lady tried very hard, the colleague seemed completely overwhelmed.

The food was delicious, the service friendly but sometimes a little too infrequent at the table. Overall, it was quite loud, but still cozy.

We ate there for my mother's birthday dinner. There were 8 adults and 4 children in total. The ambiance on the terrace is very nice. The first drinks arrived on the table after about 30 minutes. Over the course of the evening, the water bottles were repeatedly swapped without comment – without even asking if this was okay with us. Our request to make a platter of the appetizers for everyone was met with a rather rude reply: "Then you'd have to go to an Italian restaurant – we don't do that here." The food arrived after 45 minutes. Bread arrived in the meantime. After a wait of 2.5 hours, the food finally arrived – the children's impatience was evident, of course. I had a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and fries. The schnitzel was good, the fries were a manageable amount (there were more on the children's plates), and the mushroom sauce was not very flavorful. The other people's burgers received praise. All in all, we were pleased with the pleasant ambiance and the great conversations. We'd be happy to return, but the food arrives sooner.

The Forsthaus is a true gem for me. If you're looking for fine dining in a stylish setting, this is the place for you. The modern, yet rustic interior perfectly matches the theme of the adjacent forest and its animal enclosure. The staff is extremely friendly and service-oriented. As soon as you enter, you're greeted with a smile and immediately feel welcome. You're professionally escorted to your table – that's exactly how I imagine perfect service. And now for the food: In short – a poem. For all meat lovers: I recommend the beef fillet! But all the other components – from the salad to the potato gratin – were also completely convincing. Kudos to the entire team – from the kitchen to the service. Please keep up the good work! Thank you for a fantastic evening!

We were there three times, the food is well presented for the price, I personally found the salad plate with chicken or other side dishes more than meager, just a lot of greens drowned in dressing, not again for now, a pity

We returned for the first time since the reopening and were absolutely satisfied. Very nice and friendly service, delicious food, and a pleasant atmosphere. We'd love to come back!

The waiter became unfriendly and refused to serve us. He told us we were in the wrong restaurant! Not recommended!

Great location with a view of beautiful animals; very good food (great burgers) and drinks, and friendly service. I'd love to visit again.

Hello everyone, We had dinner at the Forsthaus with four people on Corpus Christi and had heard a lot of good things about the reopening. Our friends were already there when we arrived and had something to drink. We sat down and were only asked for drinks after more than 30 minutes (the waiter had walked past us what felt like 30 times). We ordered our food right away to avoid further waiting. Nevertheless, we waited 1.5 hours for our food. 🥺 My husband ordered beef sauerbraten with dumplings, red cabbage, and raisin sauce for €23.50. He got roast pork with potatoes and red cabbage without raisins. I had a paprika schnitzel with fries and a side salad for €18.80. The salad was definitely not fresh, and the green leaves had already turned a sad brown. It wasn't possible to point this out to the waiter, as they kept rushing past us without checking to see if we could take something back to the kitchen or if we wanted another drink. The highlight for me personally was that an older couple also sat at their table for 40 minutes without being noticed at all. When I politely asked the waiter about it, he told me he knew the guests were sitting there and continued into the dining room. 🙄 All in all, we had expected more from our friends' previous reviews and feedback, especially for the prices. The head waiter and the lady who checked our bill and treated us to a nightcap were the real deal. Both were super nice, apologized, and very accommodating. 🫶🏻 It's not a big deal if something doesn't go smoothly or if colleagues are absent due to illness, causing delays. For me as a guest, it's important to handle such situations confidently; then you'll forgive a lot. 😊

We sat in the courtyard in good weather. The view of one of Germany's oldest trees and various animals, including free-range chickens and a beautiful peacock, as well as deer behind a fence, was truly very interesting. I had a schnitzel with egg, onions, and salad. Unfortunately, it didn't taste good. It tasted a bit like it had been straight from a can. Far too expensive for that. A shame. The atmosphere, though, was great.

Promising ambiance. However, a huge disappointment: The food was served after a wait of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The same thing happened at neighboring tables. The service staff weren't to blame: people were literally running themselves ragged. In my opinion, the management was the culprit: too few staff (probably in the kitchen too) given the large number of seats, including outside. Many guests were outraged. We had hoped to have a nice day; this was thoroughly spoiled. We won't be coming back. L.H.

I was invited to dinner at the Forsthaus a week ago. After 16 years in the Bavarian professional restaurant industry, you start to notice the little things in a restaurant, and I was truly impressed: Excellent cuisine, good service, and a great interior, both inside and out, and even in the restrooms. In short, everything was just perfect. When I visit Krefeld, I will definitely stop by the Forsthaus again for an evening.

We were there as a group and can say it was delicious and entertaining, and the waitresses served us with wit and humor. We'd be happy to come back.

We were there for the first time today. First of all, we're delighted that someone has given this traditional establishment a new lease of life. The interior is very beautiful, modern, and invites you to linger and enjoy yourself. The terrace has only recently opened, so the seating and table layout are still a bit off, but I'm sure that will improve. The menu is great; there's something for everyone, and vegans have also been taken into account. For dessert, we had spaghetti ice cream, which was also beautifully creamy and had a good bourbon vanilla flavor. The servers seemed a bit overwhelmed, however, and the wait times were a bit long, but it was worth it. We'll be back

Very pleasant atmosphere, feeling like you're in the middle of the forest, deer wandering by, excellent food, and very attentive and friendly staff. We're very impressed and will be back regularly. We hope you stay with us for a long time!!! 💚

We went there for lunch on Whit Monday. It was quite busy, and there were a lot of seniors there. Service was great. The food was delicious. I thought there wouldn't be many fries at first, but they were plenty. They were very crispy. We'd be happy to come back.

A real asset to Krefeld. Great ambiance, very friendly and attentive service. Delicious food and wine. On the terrace in the forest, deer from the adjacent game reserve wander along the fence... We'll definitely be back!

Today I ate here for the first time since the renovation. It was great. I've lived in Krefeld near Forstwald for a few years now and have known this restaurant for a long time, and the food was already quite good. But I'm totally pleasantly surprised and can only recommend it. The menu selection is well-considered and not overly extensive, which immediately indicates that the products are fresh. The portion sizes are appropriate for the price and the product. The preparation is, as it should be, artisanal and true to local tradition and tastes great. The cake was always great and still is. Super delicious. The staff is well-staffed for the capacity, which means guests don't feel stressed. The ambiance is fantastic. What they've done with this old forester's lodge is amazing. Both the natural wood flooring adds a cozy feel and the exposed concrete ceiling adds a modern touch. The view of the deer is fantastic, as is the outdoor terrace for warm days. I've wanted them to modernize it for so long because I'm here in the forest so often. And now it's finally open again and it's turned out to be really nice. For the locals, this is a traditional restaurant, and I think it's become more modern, while still remaining true to its surroundings. According to the reviews from other guests who've been here, it seems to be generally well-received. I'll be back, next time with my family.

A great upgrade from the old Forsthaus. The old one was great, and the new one is fantastic. A fantastic change in design. Excellent food and service. Huge portions at a very reasonable price!

The new forester's lodge has little in common with the old one. It has been completely renovated. Some construction work is still ongoing. For example, the ceiling paneling hasn't been installed yet, so it's a bit noisy at the moment. The terrace is also currently being finished. Otherwise, it looks very nice. The food was excellent. I had a beef roulade and asparagus salad as a starter, which was very tasty. The value for money is good, in my opinion. We'll go there again.

An exceptional location: The Forsthaus is the former hunting lodge of an early industrialist who purchased and reforested large areas of heath and moorland in the 19th century. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more stylish setting, especially after the renovation and reopening.

Recently renovated to a high standard. We visited on the day the new outside terasse opened. I think some areas still needs to be completed, but overall, it made a very good impression.

Unfortunately, that was a disaster. A very long wait to order anything. Both drinks and food. Then a very long wait before the greeting in the form of stale bread even arrived from the kitchen. The next table looked like the picture for at least 45 minutes, even when the guests were still sitting there. The food arrived and wasn't particularly impressive. My burger was anything but smashed, the onions I'd ordered were still on it, and when everything was finally just right, everyone else at the table had already finished. If you ask the boss about it, he comes up with a funny football analogy and says word for word: at a football match, you pay the card even if the team loses in the end... I'm completely lost for words. How can an entrepreneur torpedo his own business like that? Never again ✌🏼

We were at the Forsthaus today. What can I say? Unfortunately, the atmosphere was very cold and uncomfortable. The waiters were completely overwhelmed and unfriendly, which is why there was no tip. The tables were dirty and very uncomfortable! The Kaiserschmarren I had was anything but Viennese style; it was more reminiscent of a rubber shoe sole. I found exactly one raisin in it 🤷🏽‍♀️! And who on earth still serves Gerolsteiner water? People, there's more to it... WHAT A SHAME!
