+++ CITY SPECIAL BERLIN – FACIL +++ Lunch with style. In the heart of Berlin. No frills at all. If you're looking for culinary delights on a Thursday afternoon in Berlin, the choices are surprisingly limited – something I quickly realized when planning my city special. And that turned out to be a lucky coincidence, because that's how my focus fell on Facil – and what can I say: a real hit. Facil is the kind of restaurant that doesn't constantly celebrate itself. No social media hype, no nervous self-promotion – just a highly professional, quiet temple of pleasure that has been playing in the top league almost unnoticed for almost a quarter of a century. Next year will be 25 – and with a team that has also been together for ages: Executive Chef Michael Kempf, Head Chef Joachim Gerner, Pastry Chef Thomas Yoshida, Restaurant Manager Manuel Finster, and Sommelier Felix Voges. One longer, one a little shorter, but all pillars of this establishment for years. I was even allowed in a little early – which, as you know, I always like to do, so I can snap a few uninterrupted shots of the interior. Completely peaceful, without anyone else's elbows in the frame. Then a quick detour to the kitchen, where Michael and Joachim were already waiting for a friendly chat and a short tour. I always find that special: When you realize, even before the first course, that real people are behind the concept, who put passion and love into it. The dining room? Airy, flooded with light, somewhere between Zen and urban chic. Lots of glass, natural materials, no frills – it fits the overall package. A complete gourmet menu awaits us this lunchtime – and while each individual course is delicate and harmonious, I was particularly impressed by the kohlrabi with king oyster mushrooms, apricot, and wild thyme, the langoustine from the Faroe Islands with rowanberries, carrots, and curry leaves, as well as the pike-perch cooked according to the Ikejime method with Leipziger Allerlei (a variety of vegetables), morels, and crayfish. Precision, balance, and craftsmanship at a level that quietly whispers "Wow" – but all the more lasting for it. The Facil demonstrates: Fine dining can also be done quietly. Without drama. Without fireworks. And precisely for that, at such an incredibly high level. Every dish was meticulously crafted, intelligently composed, with exciting textures and aromas that don't scream, but rather seduce. The service was – as you'd expect – attentive but never intrusive, warm but never ingratiating. Simply: confident. Conclusion: For me, Facil was one of the nicest surprises of this city trip. A place that doesn't constantly stage itself, but simply delivers. With taste, with heart, with a tremendous amount of craftsmanship. And that's exactly what I love about restaurants. Thanks to the entire team for this fantastic lunch – and for the realization: Sometimes you don't have to be loud to make a lasting impression.

We had a dinner in this restaurant on a Friday (I must have missed the trend that better restaurants are closed on Saturday/Sunday, to give their employees a weekend. But, once you know it, you can live with it.). One of our guest surprisingly outed herself as a vegetarian. Luckily, the restaurant had a vegetarian menu as well. They were all in all quite flexible, with the the amount of courses (everyone a different count) and the wine pairings, if one could not keep up. The service was prompt, professional and friendly (maybe we got lucky that they were all in a good mood, as they have 2 weeks off coming up). The whole menu was delicious. Starting with a greeting from the kitchen (three actually; think ceviche and dumplings), which were setting the theme: perfectly prepared, very flavorful and well balanced. I am not a big fan of overpouring, spiciness, sourness, acidity, oiliness ... and was happy with every course. Especially the seafood dishes are so well prepared optically as well as flavor wise. The flavor focus was obviously on the fish (halibut, zander) itself. Too little. Of course. At the time. But after the eight courses, I was happy that it wasn't more. The wine pairing too was wonderful with a bill that gives you all the names of the wines (and vintages), so that you got a excellent wine tasting on the side. The setting of the restaurant is in the fifth floor of the Mandala Hotel surrounded by a nice bamboo garden. We all would recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable, memorable and most delicious dinner.

Disgusting is an understatement. My partner and I went to this simple restaurant, intending to try a truly exquisite meal, considering the restaurant has two Michelin stars. Unfortunately, we were unpleasantly surprised to find that each dish they brought us tasted worse than the last. We even thought there was a hidden camera playing a joke on us, because there were dishes that really made us want to vomit. I promise you, that's not an exaggeration. The flavors were unrefined; the menu had no story or meaning between courses. Furthermore, considering the restaurant's goal is to showcase haute cuisine without complications, I find the basic and simplistic nature of the dishes truly outrageous compared to the price. They really aren't worth 850 euros for two people. Honestly, the only thing we "liked" was the dessert; I doubt it's worthy of two Michelin stars. We ordered wine, they forgot to bring it, we ordered champagne, and they didn't give us any. We don't know if the waiters had short-term memories or if the service was simply poor. In conclusion: don't go. It's not worth paying almost 1,000 euros; they don't deserve two Michelin stars. It's truly a rip-off.

Facil was the first Michelin-starred restaurant we went to and we definitely made the right choice. If you love food and are in the area, you should definitely book a table. We were there for lunch because there is usually a set menu at dinner and we wanted to choose our own dishes, but we will definitely be back for dinner next time we are in Berlin. The food is absolutely fantastic. Just look at the pictures. They are a work of art and absolutely delicious. Each dish has so much flavor and is unique in its own way. We especially enjoyed the desserts. The staff are of course also exceptional and very nice. When we were there, they made a small mistake with the cutlery, which we wouldn't have even noticed if they hadn't apologized to us.

It was our first visit to a Michelin-starred restaurant, and we were delighted by the friendly and personable staff, as well as the delicious dishes. The atmosphere wasn't stuffy at all. A beautiful ambiance on the 5th floor of "The Mandala" Hotel. You sit in the restaurant as if in a winter garden, surrounded by bamboo and overlooking the Zen garden, a Shangri-La of tranquility in the middle of the city. It's not exactly cheap, but it's worth every euro.

Terrible restaurant! Despite very tasty food overall experience is terrible. First of all they serve only menu of 6, 7 or 8 plates at extremely expensive , should say overpriced prices. Even for New York or Dubai, not just for a Berlin. But the main issue is that we came to celebrate our daughter’s graduation from the university and next to us were sitting guests in shorts, beach (!) slippers, also another table were in sport shirts, boxer underwear!!! We were in suits and evening dresses and feel like cheated with a check of 1000 euro without aclohol. It’s absolutely unacceptable for the so called level like this! Also for me is not allowed to eat most of their dishes, I’ve asked for any kind of a la carte menu but they declined. That was the worst experience in Michelin star restaurants ever! Avoid visit them!

Facil is one of Berlin’s great restaurants, internationally recognised, and with a price to match that at dinner can cost the equivalent of a couple of nights at the hotel. But if you still want to experience this restaurant without the price tag, they also do a more limited version of their menu at lunch, and at a great price. The food was magnificent, easily one of the best meals we’ve had anywhere, and service was superb. At no time did we ever feel we were getting discount service for the discount meal. A wonderful experience and a highlight of our Berlin visit.

The restaurant is located on the 5th floor of The Mandala Hotel, near Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin. I arrived a little before opening time and was able to wait in the hotel's lobby. At precisely 12 PM, the hotel staff smoothly guided me to the elevator. Ambience: The restaurant features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, surrounded by bamboo on the exterior, with flowing water inside, creating a tranquil, garden-like atmosphere. By 1:30 PM, the restaurant was fully occupied, mostly with couples. I was the only solo diner, which made me reflect on the prevalent couple culture in Europe. Service: Since I had listed my country as "Japan" when making the reservation, the staff interacted with me entirely in English. Their English was fluent, and the menu was also in English, ensuring seamless communication. Outside the hotel, I often encountered conversations in German, so I was impressed by the staff's professional approach. Menu: The lunch menu offered a prix fixe option with Two Courses (€68) or Three Courses (€88). I opted for the Three Course meal, which included an appetizer, a main course, and dessert. - Appetizer: OCTOPUS 'BOMBAY' - BEETROOT, FENUGREEK, AND VADOUVAN A Mumbai-style octopus dish featuring a blend of fragrant spices, with a distinct curry essence that stimulated the appetite. The interplay of flavors, enhanced by the sauce, made for an exciting tasting experience. - Main Course: CORN-FED CHICKEN FROM PRIGNITZ - GOCHUJANG AND KAFIR LIME The chicken, raised in the lush natural environment of Prignitz, was reportedly raised under stress-free conditions with a special diet. Though small in portion, the flavor was rich and well-defined. - Dessert: THE HAZELNUT-BANANA, COCONUT, AND LEMON* The elegantly plated dessert was irresistibly cute. The combination of cream, sauces, meringue cookies, and sorbet provided diverse textures, while the sweetness of hazelnut paired harmoniously with the tanginess of banana, lemon, and cassis, making it an engaging dish until the very last bite. Overall Impression: FACIL is an elegant restaurant with a refined atmosphere, highlighted by its glass-enclosed interior and bamboo surroundings. The amuse-bouche, reminiscent of chirashi sushi, reflected a respect for Japanese culture. Although the portions were small, they were visually and tastefully satisfying. The dessert, in particular, exceeded expectations, delivering a stunning experience both aesthetically and gastronomically.

Several of us went and chose different dishes from the weekday menu so we could try them all at a reasonable price (~€90). It was an incredible experience! The desserts were especially creative, and each dish was presented in an original and impeccable way. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's worth noting the very high price of the wines (~€100), which is still expected for a 2-Michelin-star restaurant. The space is simple but pleasant and invites you to enjoy the meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

I have eaten here quite a few times. It is probably the best restaurant I have ever been to. (And I eat out a lot!!) The imagination of the dishes, the incredible flavours and texture, the atmosphere… Aaah wow! The wine… the wine is definitely the best I have ever drunk with a meal… There is a German Chardonnay that my daughter and I have been talking about for 8 months since we had it… Bliss… I am staying at the hotel and about to go again but I am pretty sure I won’t change my mind… It’s worth flying to Berlin for!

A fantastic 2☆ Michelin Restaurant with a stile, a soul and a taste. Every single detail has been worked through for 100%. The fairytail starts with entering the hotel doors when you see the professional receptionists with warm and welcoming smile on their faces. At the restaurant itself we had a full attention all the time. Our coats were immediately taken off and when leaving, they were already waiting for us. The service is highly professional and helpful. All the menu was explained to us so that we could make a proper order. The breaks between the courses were just perfect - not too long, not too short. The waiters had an overview over all the guests and filled our glasses or offered another drinks immediately. Big thanks to the waiter from Latvia. He paid a full attention to us and took care of our well-being. Also the sommelier made a fantastic job and proofed his professionalism in knowing all about the wines and even more. In our 4 course menu every single dish tasted amazing! Especially the wheel shoulder which was so soft and just melted in my mouth! Fantastic! But what inspired me the most was the dessert - a peace of art! It deserved to be photographed, exhibited and adored! But after a peace of that wonderful creation I couldn't believe it can taste even better than it looks! Even the owner came to our table personally and greeted us in such a friendly and welcoming way as if we have been friends for a lifetime! Thank you so much for this wonderful experience dear FACIL team and thanks a lot to the person who invited me there.

Visited on a Tuesday evening in May for my wife’s birthday. The whole experience was incredible. Thank you to the chefs and the front of house staff who went above and beyond to ensure an unforgettable birthday meal. We had the 8 course menu with wine pairings. It proved to be an excellent showcase of German wines and the food pairings were first rate. The most expensive meal I have ever eaten but then we don’t frequent two Michelin starred restaurants very often so couldn’t say if this is the norm. Atmosphere potentially lacking slightly but mainly due to being a random Tuesday night in May. Thank you to all the team

Since we are frequent guests at the QIU Bar, we thought of this for our 10th wedding anniversary: Let's go to the facility... Since there were only a few tables occupied at lunchtime, we also got a spontaneous reservation by telephone. From the underground car park directly to the restaurant is of course great! We were given table 4, nicely located in a corner and we were warmly greeted. We decided on the 5-course gourmet menu (should be enough for lunch) The greeting from the kitchen came quickly and, in retrospect, my wife liked it best of all the courses! Then came the other courses, scallop, caviar on snow crab both a little bland and not as great as expected. In the meantime, my wife was given the wrong water, with the comment: “I then noticed that I would open another bottle for you straight away”. We thought it would be on the house, but no, it was on the bill. The third course, monkfish, was a bit more inspired; the extremely nice, young waiter poured fish sauce and mussels over it. Then our “highlight”: the main course! A walnut-sized piece of veal cheek on 23 grams of vanilla puree with quince, served in a plate with a deep cavity, it was smaller than the amuse gueules. No joke...! We have nothing against small, delicious courses (otherwise we would have gone to the nearest pub), but the overall proportions of the menu are not right. Then came the only real course that was worthy of a 2 star hotel: the dessert. What was done there in the patisserie was brilliant to see and also tasted excellent. Our conclusion: We would be happy to come back if the kitchen places a little more emphasis on the taste and proportions of the courses.

We were very satisfied with our visit. It is a beautifully furnished and located restaurant in the Mandala Hotel. Due to the good weather, the ceiling was also opened. The restaurant is beautifully designed and has a wonderfully calm atmosphere. The food is very good according to 2 stars. The service, however, deserves an additional comment as it was almost flawless and even exceeded expectations at 2 stars. The only negative for us was that we had looked at the menu on the website beforehand and also the pricing. The menu had been partially adjusted, which I understand due to seasonality, but the pricing was clearly different from the menu stated on the website (website 4 courses = 88 EUR + each additional course 20 EUR; reality: 3 courses = 88 EUR + each additional course 25 EUR). Even if the prices are still fair for the level, the ambience and especially the service, you should keep the menu on the website up to date.

As long-time guests of the Facil, we visit there twice a year - but our last visit was unfortunately disappointing. The introduction: wilted flowers at every table. You can still feel a certain “post-Corona depression”: the portions have become significantly smaller, the dishes seem less inspired than before, and the selection of products seems to be subject to a stricter budget. The meat in particular was almost impossible to find. The wine accompaniment is also questionable in terms of price - 20 euros for 0.1 liters seems excessive. A small digression that the Facil cannot help: It is shocking how table manners deteriorate from year to year. Juggling cutlery now seems to be just as socially acceptable as the hoodie as a standard outfit. A little more style and etiquette would benefit the overall experience. Filled soap dispensers in the toilets would also be helpful. Despite this disappointment, there remains hope that the Facil will find its way back to its former strength with the expected reduction in the catering tax. The kitchen has proven in the past that it can achieve great things - perhaps all it needs is a little reboot to revive the previous creativity and quality. We would like to be surprised again on our next visit by the sophistication that once made the Facil so special.

Nach 3 Jahren mal wieder hier gewesen und leider wird es wohl der letzte Besuch gewesen sein. Die Einrichtung ist noch immer überwältigend. Leider waren nur 3 Gänge des großen Menüs sehr gut. Der die ersten beiden Gänge waren versalzen. Der Hauptgang und der Fisch eine Sensation. Das Personal sehr verhalten und kühl. Der Sommelier seit 2 Jahrzehnten gleich professionell aber sehr steif. Aber das die alkoholfreie Getränkebegleitung aus zwei Weinen ohne Alkohol besteht ist für ein 2 Sterne Haus fragwürdig.

This chef is inspired by Japanese cuisine and try to combine with French. The first dish was the fried rice with mayonnaise which should be forbidden, because it’s oil on oil. Human loves oil as natural because oil gives satisfaction but not taste. People should avoid oil to taste real flavor. The second plate was scallop which was disaster, because too salty. Other than those the dishes are nice.

We were very satisfied with our visit to the restaurant. The atmosphere was calm and cozy, the service professional, and the dishes beautifully presented with intriguing flavors. More details below: I especially loved the chicken (Maishähnchen). The meat was incredibly tender, and the sauce was excellent. The desserts were magnificent—beautifully presented and with interesting flavors. Among the drinks, we had non-alcoholic wine, which had a very intriguing taste. See the photo. The Octopus "Bombay," the first dish listed on the menu, was ordered by many guests. Personally, I found it rather bland. I'm also not a fan of beetroot. In the end, the dish didn’t impress me, especially after the very vibrant and delicious aperitif. I cannot recommend this dish. The "Schwarzwurzel" dish had an interesting flavor and unusual combination. However, the smell was challenging... It's difficult to describe, but we found it unpleasant—perhaps it's similar to truffles, which we're not accustomed to. Still, it's worth trying if you're not discouraged by its peculiar aroma. Thanks to the chefs and the restaurant staff; we had an enjoyable and memorable experience!

We celebrated my wife's birthday at Vorwerck. The ambiance was wonderful. However, there were relatively few staff for the number of guests, so the quality of service suffered. Afterward, Marius, who wasn't there that evening, called us and apologized for the situation. In fact, there were several unforeseeable cancellations, and there were really too few people in attendance. Marius invited us to come back at the house so that Vorwerck could show what it can do. We were absolutely surprised, as we hadn't expected such a thing! A truly wonderful gesture, something I haven't experienced anywhere else. We accepted the offer and returned to Vorwerck two weeks later. The evening was truly unlike the first. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food was perfect. Marius, Roman, and the entire team lovingly looked after us and all the other guests. The evening was accompanied by wonderful live piano music. It's amazing that the entire team seems to be able to play the piano at a high level. The highlight at the end was when Marius himself sat at the piano and we played a quiz with all the guests and even won! As a reward, we were treated to the house cocktail. We highly recommend it! Dear Marius, dear Roman, dear team, thank you so much for this wonderful evening!

CODA is one of the most unique restaurants – even in the world. It is located in the heart of Berlin's Neukölln district. It has a very unassuming appearance; from the outside, it's barely recognizable, except for the name on the glass entrance door. To enter, you ring the bell. Three of us ate there on German Unity Day; I was there for the second time. The common title "dessert restaurant" is too simplistic; one would expect a succession of (sweet) desserts, but that's not what happens. The basis is the techniques of pattiserie, which are based on the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami). No refined sugar is used; regionality and seasonality are essential. CODA has a smaller dining room with an open kitchen. It is cozy and modern, designed in a Scandinavian style. You feel very comfortable at CODA. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The open kitchen is a place where people work quietly and with concentration, allowing guests to witness everything, yet the restaurant and the tables are quiet. It's a bit like home. The service staff are very professional, courteous, and attentive. You can tell they enjoy their work. The individual courses of the menu, along with the accompanying drinks and optional wines, are very well explained and presented. Questions are answered promptly and well. And that evening, we were able to visit the kitchen, where we were shown how the in-house chocolate is made. It's fun to be a guest at CODA. Our dinner consisted of 14 different dishes. The individual courses were of varying sizes, but overall, the entire menu, spread over three hours, was very digestible, and the portions were just right. Our evening began with the famous CODA gummy bears, made from beets, as an amuse-bouche – a great idea. The small, hearty brioche, filled with spicy Gouda and baked as a light and airy donut, was truly delicious. The lettuce was brilliant, a molecular gastronomy-style dish in which the lettuce is formed into a small, wafer-thin, intensely flavored cup of leaves, filled with a dollop of cream cheese. The combination of heartiness and patisserie came together again in the raclette waffle, which was light and airy with cheese and served with kimchi and yogurt as a dip. We also ordered CODA's legendary signature dish, the Caviar Popsicle, a salty-sweet little popsicle that is an absolutely ingenious creation. It looks like classic Nogger ice cream, the sweetness comes from the homemade ice cream, and the saltiness comes from 20g of caviar, which is applied to the outside and covered in a thin layer of chocolate. Simply unique. To finish, we had Wagyu fudge, chocolate and curd balls combined with a smoky beef flavor, almost impossible to describe. We also had a vegetarian menu, which worked very well. Good alternatives were offered where necessary; many dishes were vegetarian anyway or could be served with slight variations. Another exciting feature at CODA is the selection of drinks that accompany each dish, which is part of the menu. These are always our own creations, individually tailored to each meal. A wine pairing is optionally offered; the wines are served between courses in 0.05 liters each, which is absolutely sufficient. The menu focuses on German and French wines. CODA offers a unique aromatic journey in a very pleasant atmosphere. The effort put into creating and preparing the menu is enormous, so the price is absolutely reasonable. The Michelin Guide has rightly awarded CODA two stars for years. We would be happy to return anytime.
