Restaurant Erbil in Freiburg im Breisgau

Well, I wouldn't recommend the doner/yufka there, as the meat can sometimes be spoiled and is often very bony. I actually had food poisoning from their meat once, and since yesterday, after their "doner," I've had a complete stomach ache. The meat was cold, maybe leftovers from the day before—I don't know. In any case, I've been suffering from severe stomach pains for hours, and the only thing I can smell is their yufka. I would be careful and observe during preparation. Next time I order from there, and something like this happens again—the meat tasting a bit off—I'll check the yufka again, because I really don't want to get food poisoning from their "secret" meat again.

All in all, a very, very good place. The value for money is truly excellent. You get exactly what you pay for. Unlike other restaurants where you spend €20 on a plate that's practically empty, here the plate is piled high, large, and you get two appetizers. As far as I understand, this only applies to mixed grill platters. Very, very good and attentive service.

Taste-wise, I expected more; the doner kebab's cuts aren't great, and there's gristle in the meat, which is a no-go. The hype isn't justified.

Incredibly delicious food and unparalleled service in the entire city. I've never experienced such attentive service in a restaurant in Germany. It's worth a visit for that alone.

Very fast delivery and the taste was excellent. I ordered the skewer spicy – ​​it was okay, but I would have liked it to be spicier. I paid just under €22. On the plus side, it came with a small soup, and you could choose between fries, rice, or bulgur for the sides. I would definitely buy it again.

Worst kebab shop ever. The food quality is extremely poor, and the prices are completely outrageous. The kebab meat was burnt and dry at the same time—both in the kebab and on the pizza. I've rarely experienced anything like it. We also ordered lamb tikka skewers. No flavor, no seasoning, simply disappointing. What this really means: low quality, high prices, and zero enjoyment. Never again.

I discovered this place through YouTube – and the hype is absolutely justified. The veal doner with everything was one of the best-tasting doner kebabs I've ever eaten. Very high-quality, perfectly seasoned meat with a subtle citrus note. The doner is very large, and at €10, the value for money is more than excellent. Wednesday evening, freezing cold outside, but the place was packed.

We'd only heard good things about Erbil, so we ordered two veal doner kebabs beforehand, and what can I say? It was okay. The meat was tough, and we had to add quite a bit of extra seasoning, which isn't something I'm used to with doner kebabs. The vegetables were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, you couldn't taste the sauce at all. All in all, it was just okay.

The Pide Erbil was absolutely delicious, perfectly baked, and, most importantly, very filling – you can immediately tell that they place great value on good food. The atmosphere is lively and busy, but by no means unpleasantly loud. Despite the lively atmosphere, you can easily have a conversation, which I personally really appreciate. The price is absolutely fair for the quality offered. Overall, a very successful restaurant that I can definitely recommend – I'll gladly come back!

We were there with our family… The waiter who came to clean the table simply wiped it down on the floor. Leftover food from the previous guest was still lying on the floor. We ordered lahmacun and turkey strip salad. The salad contained pre-made, frozen pieces of schnitzel. The lahmacun, in turn, bore little resemblance to a real lahmacun! The waiters are unable to accommodate requests – they simply bring the food from the kitchen to the table. There is no response whatsoever to problems or complaints. In short: We were not satisfied.

Perfect meat and fresh appetizers – top-notch! I had a truly fantastic experience at Erbil Restaurant in Freiburg. The meat was perfectly juicy, tender, and flavorful – exactly what you'd expect from good grilled meat. The appetizers were fresh, delicious, and a great complement to the main course, with intense spices and ingredients. The seating inside is generally comfortable, and the ambiance is inviting. However, it gets very crowded, a bit cramped, and busier during peak hours – but the amazing food more than makes up for it. The service is friendly, and the portions are generous. A real highlight in Freiburg for all meat lovers – highly recommended and a full five stars!

After shopping in town, we were still hungry and thought we'd try Erbil. My husband had been there before with colleagues and was already familiar with Erbil's delicious food. I had seen a video on Instagram that had whetted my appetite. And the video wasn't exaggerating. I had NEVER eaten such a delicious yufka. The other dishes looked so good, too. Our daughter had a doner kebab plate. She was also very impressed. The service was very friendly, even though it was really busy. We didn't have to wait too long, which was really surprising given the number of people. There is a very large and varied selection of vegetarian dishes. We will definitely come back and can highly recommend Restaurant Erbil.

Delicious food, polite staff – what more could you want?

This was my second visit. By far the best doner kebab in the region. On my first visit, I had a classic doner plate. On my second visit, I had a lahmacun with doner meat (both times with veal!). The service is quick and friendly. They accommodate special requests (when possible). Next time, I'll try the pide. I highly recommend a visit, even for families!

Absolutely top-notch, with a catchment area extending far beyond Freiburg. It's almost always packed, so anyone coming with more than two people should make a reservation. A highly dedicated team in both the kitchen and the front of house. Great food; we recommend the grilled dishes and the veal doner kebab.

November 25 Eaten 10 doner kebabs since May and the quality of preparation has improved; I rarely find anything to complain about anymore 👍 Currently, it's back to its top rating of 95%, just like in 2023. A real asset to Freiburg! May 25 Bread was half-sliced, great to eat, nothing fell out. Crispy and the dough didn't tear. Top mark 1 Good mix, 3 bites of pure meat at the end. 2+ Top ingredients, extremely fresh, meat could be roasted a bit more. 1- Feb 25 Saturday, 1:30 PM, standard doner kebab. Mix not perfect but good. 2. Noticeably fresh greens. 1. Veal already cooled, roasting good, flavor suffers from the temperature but still good, not too greasy. 2- Meat-to-greens ratio. 1- Bread crispy, not as salty as previously mentioned. The crumb tears, the doner kebab falls apart easily. Perhaps more moisture should be added to the dough during preparation. Also, the bread is cut too wide (I know it makes it easier to fill), a suggestion to pre-mix the filling for immediate consumption. When taking it away, the meat cools down faster, so this would be counterproductive. Please be more innovative, stand out from the crowd with these kinds of things! Only a 3- for the bread. Last time I complained, this time it was great, the service wiped the table upon arrival, exemplary, a 1. Overall, for the first time in a long time, I wasn't disappointed, as things have obviously been improved. Overall rating 2-3, I'll be back soon to see how things develop. 👉 October 2024: My overall rating continues to decline, now only a 3- with a tendency towards a 4+. Today I'm testing the beloved Erbil standard doner without cheese again. I've been disappointed several times since my last review in July 2024. It seems to me that customer reviews aren't being taken seriously at all. The staff increasingly lowers their standards regarding meal preparation and table service. As a guest, you expect newly occupied tables to be wiped down upon arrival. It's time to return to good old-fashioned virtues. Today, the doner kebab was dripping with sauce. The server noticed this at the table and skillfully removed the excess from behind the counter. Ideally, the doner should be perfectly prepared the first time, which includes a good mix of the ingredients. This time, the last five bites consisted only of meat. A failing grade. This isn't the first time I've found the bread to be in need of improvement and have rated it accordingly. The owner hasn't made any improvements since then. Currently, the bread isn't suitable for fatty fillings. It could be baked with a crispier crust that would prevent the fat from seeping out. Once again, the bread was cut far too wide. This made it increasingly difficult to eat, and the filling seemed to evaporate with every bite. A lack of initiative, combined with poor quality and organization, resulted in a grade of 4+. The meat skewer also appears to have been subjected to cost-cutting measures. A year ago, hardly any fat dripped from the meat. Now, it's a mixture of meat fat and sauce that comes out of the bread. Even the suggestion for improvement, which would have been the icing on the cake for a perfect doner experience—hand-cutting the meat—has been ignored. The taste is still good, but far from perfect. Grade 2- Overall grade 3-. I will certainly return, hoping to be served a better doner.

We're from Heidelberg and saw this kebab shop on Instagram; we were so impressed! We've never eaten such a delicious kebab before, the meat is top quality, and the bread is homemade.

During a visit to Freiburg, we were lucky enough to stumble upon this restaurant. We received a very warm welcome and were well looked after throughout our visit. The food (a doner kebab, a doner kebab plate, and a hummus appetizer) was incredibly delicious. The bread seemed to be handmade, the meat was incredibly tender, and the combination of fresh ingredients with the homemade sauce was perfect. The hummus was equally excellent. The value for money is unbeatable, considering the quality of the food and the ambiance. This restaurant is truly a must-try.

I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant! Do not eat lahmacun here under any circumstances – the taste was awful and the quality was nowhere near what I expected. Overall, the food was very poor quality and tasteless. When we told the staff this, we only received the response: "That's just how we are, what can we do?" – no apology, no courtesy, no sense of responsibility whatsoever. Customer satisfaction seems to be of no concern here. For such poor quality, the prices are absolutely unreasonable. I strongly recommend choosing a different restaurant if you want a good meal.

I NEVER normally write reviews. But this time I have to: The flatbread was completely hard, burnt, and dry. While eating, we also discovered a small sticker from some packaging inside the doner kebab!!! A terrible experience.

I don't think I've ever given 5 stars, but this must be the absolute best tasting and best looking döner I've had. And I've tried them all over Europe! The place is also something else! They grill on flaming charcoal INSIDE the restaurant, everything natural! And there's no smoke in the restaurant!!! I was impressed! Only downfall was the fact that it was overcrowded, but that's understandable, crowds flocking in, seeing the stuff they cook there.

The place is nice, but it's very crowded. It's hard to find a seat. The prices are a bit high. We stopped by on our way back from Switzerland, and I wouldn't go back if I ever pass by. Please don't charge 3.5 euros for water.

We had the chicken breast skewer and adanan. The meat was super juicy (!) and the flatbread was a dream. The only slight deduction is the noise level, but that's due to the size of the restaurant. Absolutely recommend it!

I recently went to the Erbil kebab shop in Rieselfeld and was absolutely thrilled. From the very first bite, I knew everything was just right. The flatbread was freshly baked, crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. No comparison to what you usually get. The salad was also crisp and fresh, perfectly balanced with the delicious sauce and a few pomegranate seeds – really good. The meat was tender, aromatically seasoned, and cooked to perfection, so that all the ingredients combined to create a true taste experience. You immediately notice that quality and attention to detail are paramount here. The service was also friendly and attentive! For me, this is clearly the best kebab I've had in Freiburg so far. I'll definitely be back and would gladly make the trip! Thank you!

Very tasty, fresh ingredients, and a fair price by today's standards! I just thought it was awful how one employee loudly scolded another employee (presumably a newbie) in front of the customers for not mopping the floor well enough. I think all the employees were very nice and tried hard, but it's not right to be so mean about your own colleagues in front of customers.

The veggie platter was delicious and beautifully presented. The bread was fresh from the oven. The service was also very friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

The kebab was excellent! Succulent veal, crisp salad, feta, pomegranate seeds, served in homemade bread. Filling and happy! Drinks didn't arrive at first, but that was quickly rectified. It's quite busy at lunchtime, so it's worth coming after 1 p.m. The shop does have a few minor quirks here and there that could be corrected, but they try to keep it nice.
