Restaurant Café Prag in Schwerin

Great location, Nice interior. The staff is so-so. The cakes are nothing special, a lot of average tasting cream and a dry base. Don't bother with the food, not fresh and not properly prepared. The prices are above average, though. Next time maybe just coffee.

Great place with good food and good atmosphere. Nice service and fast service. The only downside was that the beer was a little too small as it disappeared too quickly😘. Recommend Tivoli salad, small portion, more than big enough. A little expensive, but worth the money 👍👍👍👍👍

Schwerin war unser Reiseziel und das schöne Café Prag stand weit oben auf unserer Besuchsliste. Die Räume sind tatsächlich so, wie man das von einem alteingesessenen Café erwartet. Sie verbreiten eine gemütliche Kaffeehausatmosphäre. Voller Erwartung bestellten wir Marzipantorte, Mohnkuchen und Cappuccino. Der erste Bissen von der Marzipantorte brachte sofort die Ernüchterung: Viel zu süß, viel zu wenig Marzipan, eine undefinierbare übermäßig süße Marmelade und der Biskuit sah aus, fühlte sich an und schmeckte wie industriell hergestellt. Diese ganze Marzipantorte erinnerte mich sehr an die Coppenrath & Wiese-Tiefkühl-Marzipantorte, nur ein wenig aufgepimpt. Für mich sah die weder aus, noch schmeckte sie selbstgemacht. Der Mohnkuchen war bestenfalls mittelmäßig, schmeckte pappig, hatte einen seltsamen Beigeschmack und schmeckte nur wenig nach Mohn. Auch der Kaffee war nur untere Mittelklasse. Der Service war aufmerksam, aber im Großen und Ganzen hatten wir dort keine Freude an den Speisen und Getränken.

The cake was very tasty, but the service was quite unfriendly. The lady at the cake counter apparently doesn’t know the word “customer-friendly”. The older waitress with short hair was also impossible to face us at the table. It's a shame, because the cake is really great, but the bad things are often remembered.

I like this cafe. A bit classic, a very nice atmosphere and a friendly and funny, quick-witted service crew. Plus very imaginative cakes and cakes. Wonderful

Ich hatte mir einen Toast zum Mitta bestellt. Der Toast war lappig, das Fleisch zäh un der grüne Spargel holzig und faserig. Als ich das dem Kellner mitteilte, bekam ich nur zur Antwort, dass er es an die Küche weiter gibt. Un das zu überhöhten Preisen!

Historical place, must see in Schwerin

After a very long time we have once again reserved a table here for coffee. The selection of cakes and tarts was good, but everything looked better than it tasted. The café was completely overcrowded and therefore it was unpleasantly loud. After we had eaten and drank well, the waitress told us that we should please get up now because she needed the table. Of course she only said that after we had left a decent tip. Something like this has never happened to us before and is really unheard of. So we're done with Café Prague. It's a shame because there's really no lack of competition in Schwerin.

Such a nice interior and good coffee ☕️🧞‍♂️ Lots of cakes to choose from, but they are also the only option for dessert (and a few cookies) 🍰🥄. But I kind of liked it, it was like it added more personality to the place :)

The hot chocolate was just warm and could have been more chocolaty.

The cake was very good. But the way the coffee is served can be improved a lot. Milk, white sugar from disposable containers and a small glass of water are actually included. The service was okay but you had to get the cake yourself. A bit strange for the former purveyor to the court of Schwerin Castle.

Unfriendly. There were two of us and it was pretty empty in the restaurant at lunchtime. Before we could even choose a table, the waiter came and asked us to only sit at a table for two, as the larger (for 4 people!!!) tables had to be kept free for "groups" (????). We actually wanted to go there. We then took a seat a little further away in the corner on the mezzanine (table for two!!) and then nothing else happened. We waited a long time and only when we asked him to come and see us did the waiter come. The food, well. From the lunch menu 1 x salad with shrimps. Loveless (ready-made?) salad, the prawns on top. The bread is charred. For a little extra sauce, 1 EUR will be charged. At least there was a decent piece of bread after the complaint. I had a smaller portion of pork steak with ragout fin and hollanaise sauce. I really had to look for the latter, and the ragout was also very economical. In principle, I think it's good that smaller portions are offered, but only a couple of potato biscuits, no salad bouquet, I found it all poor and simply put together carelessly. Otherwise, we didn't see any "groups" and the restaurant wasn't even half full the whole time. Scaring away guests. We're not going there anymore.

The atmosphere was great. The cakes (eggnog and mango buttermilk) for €5.40 were very small and overpowering with artificial flavoring. I almost never leave cakes unused, but here I couldn't resist the artificial flavoring. The coffee was good! What a shame for such a great location 😩

It's rare to find such a classic café house ambience, and the pastry shop delivers what the facade promises, everything at its finest. Friendly, unobtrusive service.

The best meal in northern Germany in a few days

The cakes all looked very good, but the two we chose were unfortunately quite disappointing. Although they were different, they tasted almost identical and bland. The latte was okay, but the filter coffee wasn't so tasty. Service was okay. The ambiance was a bit dated; we've seen better in the same style.

It only gets 2 stars, personally from me. From the outside, it looked great through the glass pane, a great ambiance, tasteful, inviting to linger. The menu (outside) was very pleasant to read and appetizing. We would have loved to stop in, but unfortunately we had a small dog with us; dogs are absolutely not allowed/welcome (we even asked again despite the sign prohibiting dogs). We would have loved to stop in, but unfortunately, we didn't live up to the standard. We don't think that's a bad thing at all. Every restaurant can and should decide for itself. We moved on at a leisurely pace and found somewhere dog-friendly. Nevertheless, we would love to stop by Cafe Prag sometime if we were out and about without our four-legged friends. It looked great. We had breakfast at Cafe Prague on March 16, 2025. I have to say that I have a hard time with the rating. It was a bit cool in the room, perhaps due to the old windows? We could choose places. Tables were also neat and clean. We sat near the bar. Unfortunately, you could also hear the complaining of the ladies behind the bar. Every order was one too many. She was obviously overwhelmed. From shit to other not nice words could be heard there. I'm sorry, but that doesn't work at all. You can be stressed, but then I should think about whether this is the right job. The two waitresses were friendly. But basically it wasn't comfortable because you had the feeling that everyone was stressed. And you just get that completely there. We haven't experienced that in Schwerin, Wismar or Rostock. The breakfast itself was good though. Unfortunately we won't be coming back. There are plenty of other cozy corners in and around Schwerin. Too bad:(..

Schönes Café-Restaurant mit historischem Hintergrund, tolle Lage. Sie werben außen mit "Restaurant" von Frühstück bis Abendessen. Ich gehe also zum Mittagessen hin. Das Personal ist freundlich. Meine Vorspeise, die Fischcremesuppe mit Dill, schmeckt mir außerordentlich gut. Dann kommt 1 Königinpastete mit Kalbsragout... dass der Blätterteig fertig gekauft wird, damit rechne ich, kein Problem. Aber das war eindeutig Dosenragout (gut zu erkennen) und das verstehe ich nicht. Eine weiße Soße mit Fleischeinlagen und Champignons ist nun wirklich nicht schwer zu kochen. Läßt sich prima vorbereiten und nur noch erwärmen. Natürlich war die Hollandaise (als Kleks drauf) auch aus der Tüte. Mein Pfannkuchen mit Himbeermarmelade: 2 kleine, gekaufte Pfannkuchen wie man sie im Supermarkt findet, in der Mikrowelle warm gemacht und dazu (noch gut erkennbar) eine Frühstücksmarmeladen-Portion im Plastikbecher, auf mein Teller umgestürtzt. Dazu Fertig-Sprühsahne die nur aus Luft besteht und gleich zerläuft. War das ein Enttäuschung! Warum nennt man sich Restaurant wenn man nicht kochen will? Das hatte Kantinen-Niveau. Nun frage ich mich woher meine Suppe kam... wahrscheinlich auch 1 Convinience-Produkt, aber dafür einen leckeren, da bleibe ich dabei. Das Kuchenbüffet hatte viel Auswahl... aber leider alles sehr altmodisch und wirkte wie aus dem Fließband (nur eine Vermutung). Diese Auswahl kennt man seit den 80ern... nichts Neues dabei. Schade.

Nice café in the style of the KuK cafés in Vienna or Prague. Attentive service - coffee and tea at reasonable prices. Many tables reserved - gladly again.

Café Prague is stylishly and comfortably furnished. Unfortunately, it's also getting a bit old, especially at the row of windows there is a lot of draft and you're freezing. The service initially ignores you when you come in. This is in need of improvement.

Children get coffee ice cream, when they ask for an espresso tonic they are told that it is not on the menu. I was allowed to mix things myself at the table. Unfortunately the drink foamed over. Then the waiter wasn't in a particularly good mood. He said: you made a mess. A reminder that we should please not use your first name and if necessary call another waiter to serve you. Long story short, no de-escalation whatsoever, just accusatory words. The cake was ok. The espresso tonic under the table, tea in the bag, ice cream very bland. I live around the corner and will never come back.

Nice café in the middle of Schwerin city center. It is beautifully decorated and very cozy! The cakes are highly recommended! Since the café is full, cake sales are self-service only. Of course, lunch is served with service.

The coffee was good. The cake (chocolate mousse) didn't really convince me of the price-performance ratio. It was very cramped in the café and the atmosphere was old-fashioned. The clientele also tends to be older. You have to get the cake yourself, although coffee is served at the table. We wanted to try it out and would probably not come back.

Came for coffee and cake, the service with the long braid was very unfriendly. We actually wanted to have breakfast here the next day, but decided against it because of the service.

So the café is very nice. The service was quick. The food was a disaster. I had steak a four and the seasoning that went on the steak was simply slapped on top from the can. It was almost inedible and the price was absolutely crazy. For me it's a disgrace.

The outside view of the café is appealing, but unfortunately the overall concept is not convincing. The service on site seemed unfriendly, which significantly spoiled the visit. I also find it inappropriate that you have to go to the counter yourself to get a piece of cake, even though the drinks are served at the table. A visit to a café should be a completely relaxed experience - but here there is clearly room for improvement.

A warm place on cold winter days - wrong thinking. We sat by the window and directly by the heater. She was hot. But it didn't warm the immediate surroundings. Reason: The fresh air supply via the ventilation was turned up to full capacity and over the course of an hour it got increasingly colder, so my guest and I had to put on our jackets. Breakfast for €16 per person was an average breakfast. The orange juice tasted very sour, not edible for me. The coffee only had the approximate taste. Conclusion: relatively full, but completely frozen. It's a shame, I won't recommend the restaurant.

After a long time, today I was once again taken to this really inviting café in the heart of Schwerin. But unlike usual, the atmosphere and the employees today weren't as creamy as the cream on my cocoa. There was a smell throughout the entire place that reminded us of that of a toilet. Much more unpleasant, however, was the rude and unmotivated demeanor of the service staff who served us. Both when we went to get cake and when we wanted to pay our bill, we were, in our opinion, not treated politely. In the end, this impression clouded us, despite the satisfactory coffee and cake. Hopefully things will be friendlier on our next visit!

The cream slices tasted bland, the meat was almost hard and tended to be tough, I would only rate that with 1 star. The apple strudel scores with 4 stars. The service was professional and very friendly. Unfortunately the overall result is only 3 stars.

Historically beautiful place where history still counts.

We visited Cafe Prague with a baby today. Unfortunately, we were initially put off with "... no tables available, all are reserved and there is no space here with strollers anyway...". After we waited 5 minutes, the nice woman behind the cake counter took pity on us and gave us a table that had already been free. Unfortunately, the children's chair that we had to look for ourselves was a disaster. It was shaky, the screws were loose and the seat belts were all broken. The ambience itself is great, but the tables and chairs are very narrow. 1 - 2 tables less and it would be significantly more comfortable. The food (cake, Hanseat and crepe) and the coffee were good to very good. We just find it strange that a piece of cake (which was really good) costs the same as a glass of lemonade. Overall it's completely ok, but we were still surprised. With a few exceptions, the staff wasn't very friendly. Maybe it was because of the holiday (January 1st), but it wasn't fun. But we're all human, everyone gets pissed off sometimes, but we shouldn't take it out on those around us. However, the nice lady behind the torten counter and the waiter are still positive. For a cafe that has such a good reputation in Schwerin, I think there is more to it.

Nette 87 jährige Rentnerin durch Cafe Prag um bereits bezahlte Leistung geprellt. Ich habe dort einen Gutschein erworben und bezahlt und ihn der Rentnerin zum Geburtstag geschenkt. Sie ist dann vor 4 Wochen dort frühstücken gewesen. Im Anschluss wurde vom Personal die Annahme des Gutscheins verweigert mit der Begründung man müsse ihn vorher anmelden. The food was ok. I had the egg pancakes which were quite tasty. The portion was quite small, so unfortunately overpriced at €8.30. Unfortunately the service was unfriendly for no reason. I would like to point out that one waitress was very nice and friendly, but there was a colleague who who was unkind to us for no reason. My friend and I had ordered a pot of coffee for €5.40 to share and asked if we could get a second cup. The answer was "No. We don't do that here," in a very unfriendly tone. Too bad...I wonder why.

It smelled very musty... There was almost exclusively buttercream cake... the mocha cake was missing the mocha...

In a traditional cafe in downtown Schwerin, near the castle, there is an extensive range of cakes and delicious dishes. The service is friendly and accommodating.

Very courteous staff. We had our 20-month-old granddaughter with us and she was really looked after. The food there has always been good, but this time the game goulash with dumplings was absolutely amazing. The chef is a genius.

Wer einen guten Kaffee trinken will, sollte woanders hingehen. Ein doppelter Espresso wird dort mit 80 ml Wasser zubereitet. Keine Crema und ein Geschmack wie angefärbtes Wasser. Dies trifft auch auf normalen Kaffee und Cappuccino zu. Kulanz für dieses Gebräu Fehlanzeige, man werde die Beschwerde weiterreichen. Habe noch nie so einen schlechten Espresso bekommen.

Super unfriendly staff. You get turned on when you add two chairs to a table and have to push the chair out a little to get up (that means there's no room here!) When a 3 year old orders herself something to drink, she is asked what is it? We ordered 2 coffees and a water but only got one coffee out of 2. We drank everything in 5 minutes and were happy to leave the store!

Been there for coffee for a while. There is no trace of Viennese flair anymore. The staff will call you on your first name, no matter how old you are. In the afternoon there was a heavy smell of food in the air. This restaurant has come a long way from being a cozy café. Too bad

The Café Prag in Schwerin is a nice place to take a leisurely break. What was particularly positive was the friendly and attentive staff, who made the visit very pleasant. The food was good and solid, just the thing for a relaxed meal. The cozy atmosphere also invites you to linger. However, there are a few minor weaknesses: The furniture looks a bit old and could do with a refresh. In addition, the waiting time for the food was a little longer than hoped. Nevertheless, I can recommend Café Prague for a relaxed visit – you feel in good hands here.

Wir haben für 60 Euro gefrühstückt das beste war das Obstgläschen Dosenobst und obendrauf gab es eine kleine Scheibe Kiwi und ein kleiner Rest von einer Orange . Das Frühstück war übersichtlich bei so einem Preis erwartet man frische Zutaten und frische Brötchen . 2 Sorten Käse 1 bischen Wurst bischen Marmelade Frischkäse in Plastikverpackung dazu eine Gurken und Tomatenscheibe .Wir haben mit dem Besitzer über das Frühstück gesprochen das wir für das Geld mehr erwartet hätten er fing gleich an, das wäre gerechtfertigt Lage usw...er fragte uns wollten sie etwa mehr ? Und wir wären die ersten Gäste die sich bei ihm beschweren er hat nur positive Bewertungen!!! 3 Scheiben Lachs 6,90 1 Croissant nicht mal frisch 3 Euro das geht garnicht .Wie hier die positiven Bewertungen zusammen kommen, lässt sich nur erahnen. Die Bedienung war super nett das Frühstück kam sehr schnell .Wir kommen nicht wieder da kennen wir bessere Lokalitäten für diesen Preis . Ich denke mal das auch diese Berwertung bald raus fliegt, aber ich hoffe das es viele Gäste lesen bevor sie hier viel Geld lassen !

Café Prague boasts on its own menu as follows: “The café is known for its excellent cakes and tarts as well as its first-class coffee specialties.” After such a full-bodied announcement, I was surprised that the praised coffee specialties came from a fully automatic machine that has already seen its best days. Instead of cappuccino today, tea... The “excellent cakes” also turned out to be a disappointment. Visually, the cakes definitely make a great impression, look beautiful, are obviously easy to cut, are tall and beautifully symmetrical. However, a large slice of Black Forest cake didn't even have a single cherry between the layers and the "cherry jelly" didn't reach the edge of the cake. I didn't find it particularly tasty either - I personally didn't find it edible. I have the impression that the look of the cakes and not the taste should be convincing.

We were here twice in one day. Great service and delicious cakes.

Unfortunately the food is a tourist trap. I paid €12.50 for a “Cafe Prague” toast and was just disappointed. Boring little white toast with a piece of turkey on top and shriveled beans. Not tasty, not filling and also €12.50. The drinks also only come in 0.2 size. In addition, the store is nice but very crowded and therefore very loud and not comfortable. Unfortunately we left the restaurant very dissatisfied, so no recommendation.
