Kartoffelhaus No. 1 in Schwerin

Our exchange daughter’s family is from Schwerin and recommended this restaurant. Traditional northern Germany cuisine, and it was wonderful. A beautiful old building added to the experience, and I even enjoyed the waiter making fun of my high school German.

Super delicious food in a cozy atmosphere at fair prices. Can highly recommend the beef roulade. For me, as a tall person (1.90+ m), the stairs to the toilets on the 1st floor were a bit of a challenge with quite narrow steps, as they are very steep for structural reasons. Maybe more risky for older/insecure people. The service is super nice and attentive!

I was there for lunch today. The restaurant is very cozy and the food is simply delicious. The service was very attentive and courteous. I can only recommend it.

I haven't visited such an excellent restaurant in a long time. The dishes were fresh, seasoned just right and simply perfect - from the duck to the dumplings to the red cabbage, everything harmonized wonderfully. The employee was also extremely friendly. If I come back to Schwerin, I will definitely visit this restaurant again. Thank you for this great experience!

This is a rustic inn where it's worth stopping by and enjoying yourself. It is a pleasure to eat and drink in a historical atmosphere. The menu offers everything your heart desires. The service staff is very friendly and accommodating. Everything tipi is great!

We had ox cheeks with Mediterranean pan-fried vegetables with boiled potatoes and pork medallions with mushroom cream sauce, fried onions and rosti. Everything was super delicious! You can also enjoy naturally cloudy potato house beer. All served by a motivated, friendly and attentive service team! I recommend the restaurant without reservation and recommend making a reservation.

We had 3 different dishes and all were delicious. The service was also super friendly and quick. The second level is also great with purchasable decorative products - lovingly designed.

We had reserved the day before (highly recommended due to demand!) and were allocated a very nice place. Service was prompt and consistently friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere inside is very quaint and harmonious - it was cozy. The meat (ox cheek and lamb steaks) was very good. The downside: The fried potatoes weren't what we expected - and the beans were somehow still raw - or just blanched? We're still happy when we go home!

Cosy restaurant with good traditional food in an old building. There is a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The food is traditional. We can recommend the lamb ragout. (The picture shows the grill teller) The beer selection from tab is not great but they have a home brewed beer which is good.

Food was delicious, I recommend the lamb with feta cheese and sun dried tomatoes. I only dont get to put 5 stars because the dish unfortunately was too salty. I eat salty so I didnt matter much and still ate it all, but my mother had a hard time finishing the dish only because of that.

From the potato house to Schwerin. Unfortunately..the music box, in the outdoor area, had frequent dropouts. 🙄 This disrupts the otherwise comfortable stay a little. The Schwerin Potato House, also known as “The Impossible Tavern”. True! It is impossible for the boss (or junior boss) to behave badly in the restaurant! He already seemed stressed and overwhelmed at the reception and finally said goodbye to us in a really cheeky and arrogant manner. A friendly advance notice that the restaurant would be closing soon would certainly have been enough and we would have left on time. The food was really delicious and the service at the table was very friendly. We still won't be coming back. No guest should have to be treated like this.

Called to reserve a table, supposedly everything was fully booked, we walked past early in the evening, no sign of it being fully booked, an hour later the same picture (obviously they didn't need it). Without further ado we went to the restaurant on the other side and everything was great.

French on a motorcycle roadtrip, we made a stop in Schwerin, this restaurant is excellent, very good value for money, quality and quite hearty family cuisine! The “hostel” type setting is very nice. The only downside is that there is no map in English, so bring Google translation if you don't speak German.

The food wasn't that good, with the name "Kartoffelhaus" I would have expected that the kitchen could handle potatoes...I ate schnitzel with fried potatoes. The schnitzel was very good, the fried potatoes were not crispy and very soft! Maybe intentional, I have no idea. Unfortunately I was very disappointed.

The food was delicious. I'm not a fan of German cuisine, but we liked everything here - we ordered schnitzel with baked potatoes and cucumber salad (like our pork chop) and pork tenderloin with onion, mushrooms in sauce and potato pancake. This pie was divine! View of the cathedral and historic tenement houses, including a house from 16... some year. In the building where the restaurant is located, I recommend going upstairs where you can see various things from the past. The only drawback is the lack of an English menu and the poor knowledge of English by the staff. Fortunately, we were served by a young man who was able to handle it 💪

Food is OK. Portions are rather small. Prices are expensive for the quality and size. Kellern was friendly at the beginning, but when the tips were sparing, there wasn't even a thank you. Overall ok, but not special.

Unbelievably bad service. My birthday, bad arthrosis in my knee, wanted to sit and eat delicious food. We had been looking forward to it for 3 days. Waiter unreasonably unfriendly, no more space. My 80-year-old father urgently needed to sit down! Nobody cared about us. No offer as to whether we might want to come back later. The waiter rudely sent a large, friendly group away in front of us. Keller was incredibly overwhelmed. Absolutely not recommended!!!!

We had a very good meal in the very beautiful and quiet Gartenwitschaft. The country pork schnitzel is particularly recommended. The house beer goes perfectly with this.

There is very friendly service in the “Kartoffelhaus”. Whatever is on the menu is tastefully prepared and served accordingly. The drink selection is good. We can highly recommend this restaurant for a gathering with friends or as a couple.

First of all: making a reservation by telephone is recommended. We wanted to eat something typical in Schwerin and were very surprised at how few GDR cuisines you can find there. Thank goodness there is still a lot of it at Potato House and it tastes exactly the same as before, very, very tasty! The solyanka was amazing and the potato-chanterelle soup was also very tasty! All four of us also found the main course very tasty. Lübzer Pils went very well with it and the house-made rum was one of the tastiest rums I've ever drunk. The service was in a very good mood, very polite and accommodating! For me it's an insider tip in Schwerin, we'd love to come back!

The pub is located in the old town in a nice building. It's nice inside too. We get a table, we get a card and a gentleman who, unfortunately, doesn't speak a bit of English, but somehow we come to an understanding :). The beer is tasty, the food is good, the service is much more withdrawn than with German customers due to the inability to speak fluently. Strong 4!
