Kartoffelhaus No. 1 in Schwerin

A completely spontaneous visit to Schwerin, and I stumbled upon Kartoffelhaus quite by chance. It was definitely worth it. The service was fantastic; you could tell the staff loved their job and were truly passionate about it. The food was a culinary delight. Simply delicious.

My girlfriend and I were sitting in a restaurant, and the next table was free, so we sat down. No order had been taken yet. Then a tall, middle-aged waiter came and said I had to ask him before changing tables—however, his tone and manner were very rude. We left the restaurant immediately. Yes, I should have asked, but as I said, no order had been taken, and there was no "Reserved" sign on the table. Please check your service staff.

A very nice location. But the most important thing, of course, is the food. It was seasoned perfectly – not overdone, just enough to complement the ingredients. Simply fantastic service. The price was almost too low. Unfortunately, nobody seems to appreciate that anymore.

There were five of us, and everyone was delighted. The appetizer, main course, and dessert arrived at the table at perfectly timed intervals. And no matter what anyone ordered, everyone enjoyed their meal. The waiters were very attentive; none of us went thirsty. All in all, a warm and friendly atmosphere combined with excellent food. A perfect evening...

Why is it not possible to post a menu online given the current situation? Like many things in Schwerin, the restaurant situation in general is a disaster. The restaurant itself has something special about it. Friendly staff, really good food.

Beautifully located in the old town, with a lovely ambiance. Outdoor seating is available on the street. The food is good quality, but not cheap. However, for a potato restaurant, two vegetarian dishes are definitely too few.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't as appealing as expected. The portions were rather small, and the prices even higher (a grown man probably wouldn't get enough). The service was a bit grumpy and surly. I also found it rude to offer a plate of rösti and then take a frozen one, which they then dip in the fat and place in half on the plate. The two small pieces of pork fillet that came with it definitely didn't justify the hefty price tag!

We got a spot spontaneously on a Saturday evening. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. We really enjoyed the food.

I came to Schwerin with my family for the half marathon this weekend. While looking for a place to eat, we came across the Kartoffelhaus. Full marks for everything 😁 A must-visit, enjoy, and feast. I'm happy to tip, as a matter of course. Thank you for the culinary evening.

Delicious dishes and friendly and helpful staff

Super friendly service and delicious food. My only criticism is that the fish dish only came with half a potato, making the portion very small. Not even a whole potato, or even two or three, as is common at other restaurants that don't focus on potatoes.

The quality of the food was mediocre. The asparagus, which is currently in season, was overcooked and unpalatable. The game dish consisted of a couple of small pieces of meat and half a liter of sauce with a very intense taste that overpowered all the other products. The schnitzel was good, one family member out of three was satisfied.

The restaurant is good and the waiter we got was very responsive and attentive. 4 stars thanks to him. I liked the waiter's work more than the food. My son also did not want to eat mashed potatoes and fish sticks. Among the steaks there was only 1 tasty one and the fried potatoes were well cooked. The rest of the food was not delightful. But still, I liked it here

Unfortunately, we chose the wrong entrance to the restaurant and were rudely asked to leave. I can't really rate the food. Even one star is too much for hospitality. Unfortunately, I have to give one star so that the review can be saved. We definitely won't be back!

We were actually looking for a vegetarian restaurant, and this one was recommended to us. Although it "only" had vegetarian dishes, we had a very comfortable seat in the small beer garden. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious, especially for us non-vegetarians. Our vegetarian friend was also satisfied. We'd be happy to go again.

We had lunch at Kartoffelhaus. We had wild boar schnitzel with fried potatoes and a cucumber salad. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The service was very friendly and attentive. P.S. The cucumber salad was amazing!!!

Over 20 empty tables and refused us saying it was all taken, clearly because we had our one year old with us. Not family friendly, not worth visiting.

We came here for dinner and were very impressed by the food and the ambiance. The starter, the spiced beef, was very good. The toast was too crispy for me personally, but that's a matter of taste. My main course, the roast rib, completely won me over; the meat was tender and flavorful, and I can only say good things about the mashed fried potatoes. Since the portions were quite large for me, I didn't make it to dessert, but on the recommendation of the house, they offered a glass of their house rum, which rounded off our visit to the Kartoffelhaus. We visited Kartoffelhaus at the beginning of April and opted for the grilled meat platter with a glass of dark beer and the potato gratin. I've had many variations of the grilled meat platter, but this one tasted absolutely outstanding. I'd never experienced anything like it before. You should definitely try it yourself!

I was absolutely thrilled with my visit to this restaurant. The ambiance is stylish and cozy, and the service is attentive and warm. The menu offers a fantastic selection of creative dishes that not only look fantastic but also taste excellent.

If you're looking for a friendly place to stop off in Schwerin, you're definitely not in good hands at the potato house. The horrible ambience is outweighed by the extremely unfriendly service and the overpriced and bad food. The waitress didn't seem to mind, because their dismissive and inattentive demeanor caused us to leave the restaurant as a group. The superfluous inn would be our suggested name.

We had pork medallions with Röstitaler and mushroom cream sauce. There were two pork medallions on the plate, one of which was ok but the other was inedible. It smelled extremely unpleasant so I couldn't continue eating. The waiter asked why the meat was still on my plate. I explained the reason to him and he took the plate with him. After a long wait we wanted to pay, saying that I wouldn't pay the full price. Then another waiter came. He explained to me that he and his colleague smelled and ate the piece of meat!!! and it would have tasted completely normal. ...which waiter will eat the guests' cut meat please! If they had actually eaten it, they would have vomited it right back out. It smelled so disgusting! They did ask us to have a coffee or dessert on the house. But unfortunately I was sick to my stomach 🤢, which is why I didn't want to accept it. By the way, I still had to pay the full price!😡 absolutely not recommended!!!

Wir hatten Schweinemedaillons mit Röstitaler und Champignonsrahmsoße. Es waren zwei Schweinemedaillons auf dem Teller, wovon eins ok aber das andere ungenießbar war. Es roch extrem unangenehm, sodass ich nicht weiter essen konnte. Der Kellner erkundigte sich, warum das Fleisch noch auf meinen Teller war. Ich erklärte ihm den Grund und er nahm den Teller mit. Na längerem Warten wollten wir bezahlen, mit dem Hinweis, dass ich nicht den vollen Preis bezahlen werde. Daraufhin kam ein weiterer Kellner. Er erklärte mir, dass er und sein Kollege das Stück Fleisch gerochen und gegessen!!! hätten und dies völlig normal geschmeckt hätte. …welcher Kellner isst bitte das angeschnittene Fleisch vom Gästen! Hätten sie es wirklich gegessen, hätten sie es gleich wieder ausgebrochen. So widerlich hat es gerochen! Sie baten uns zwar noch ein Kaffee oder Dessert auf Kosten des Hauses an. Aber mir war leider kotzübel 🤢 , weshalb ich das nicht annehmen wollte. Ich musste übrigens trotzdem den vollen Preis bezahlen!😡 absolut nicht empfehlenswert!!!

Their people skills were lost. They're rude to non Schvering, Hamburgers and foreigners. Don't get bullied by these unmannered (I guess rich and famous) people. I couldn't know what the food was like. Won't ever pay for poorly mannered services.

Really nice ambience, but unfortunately the food was bad. The fried potatoes were soft and mushy...and in a POTATO HOUSE!! The gratin with salmon and pike perch fillet was of poor quality. The fish was dry and tasteless, hard to identify as fish. We were very disappointed!!

Everything was excellent! My husband had the grill plate, I had a salad. The herbs in the salad were a bit bitter, it would have been better with iceberg lettuce. The meat was really tasty – full 5 points! My husband didn't even want to drink anything because he didn't want to lose the perfect taste. The staff was friendly and the service overall was pretty good. The restaurant itself is very atmospheric - in a charming country house style and housed in an old building. Highly recommended.

I have to deduct a star because I was disappointed by the quantity of asparagus. You can take EUR 20. But not if there are only 5 lonely sticks on the plate. Otherwise everything was very tasty. The service is impeccable.

Schon mehrfach dort mit ehem. Arbeitskollegen bzw. Ehefrau eingekehrt und diesmal ohne Anmeldung und sofort Platz erhalten. Das Essen war bisher immer gut gelungen und auch diesmal der Grillteller schmackhaft und das Fleisch einen guten Garpunkt. Was mir nicht so gefällt ist, dass man noch gar nicht richtig sitzt, das Getränk bestellt und gleich gefragt wird nach dem Essenswunsch. Das fühlt sich so an, als wenn man schnell fertig werden möchte und lässt an Gemütlichkeit fehlen.

The food tasted really good. My wife had game, which was excellently prepared. I myself chose the potato pan with fillet tips. The portion was just right: not too much and not too little meat. Unfortunately, there was one point that disappointed us: the menu advertised fried potatoes, but only boiled and sliced ​​potatoes were served. Unfortunately, this does not meet expectations and should be taken into account in the future. The food could also have been a little warmer. Overall, a nice visit with good food and great service with small improvements it would have been perfect.

Best grill plate I've ever eaten, here the chef even manages to grill a pork steak juicy (which is otherwise very rare)! The Mecklenburg roast was also excellent. And an Erdinger Pikantus, what more could you want 🤪 Service was super nice and attentive, the prices were absolutely (!) okay. 2020: We were here for the third time within a few weeks, first alone and then with guests. Everything is really right here, the food was always excellent, the service was very friendly and accommodating, and the prices were moderate or reasonable. And the ambience is perfect! Our guests have also confirmed this to us. An absolute recommendation in Schwerin. We'd love to come back.

I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. We got a table at 6 p.m., which was supposed to be free again at 7 p.m. We just wanted to have a drink and then leave. So that was fine with us. When we ordered our drinks we were told that you can't drink here without also ordering food and that there are many other places where you can only drink wine. That actually goes without saying, but the waiter was very unfriendly and the place wasn't full at all, so we didn't take the seat away from new guests. After 15 minutes, after our drinks were there, the bill suddenly arrived without being asked, as a sign that we should leave. I find that totally outrageous and unprofessional.

Our exchange daughter’s family is from Schwerin and recommended this restaurant. Traditional northern Germany cuisine, and it was wonderful. A beautiful old building added to the experience, and I even enjoyed the waiter making fun of my high school German.
