We ate the barbecue platter. Total disappointment. Nothing that was pictured was on the plate. Instead, there was a deep-fried Krakauer sausage, fried chicken wings from Aldi, smoked bacon briefly pan-fried without any browning, and a tasteless, square chicken skewer. Probably from a market in Holland. Oh, and three spare rib bones. The salad was drenched in mayonnaise and didn't taste good either. On top of that, everything was only lukewarm. My daughter and I didn't finish our food, and I pointed out the problem. The waiter didn't care. They also no longer have the delicious stone-baked pizza. A real shame, but we won't be eating there again.

I visited this past Tuesday with my two adult daughters. We had originally planned to go to the Christmas discount store, but we happened to be here with our campervan and decided to stop in spontaneously. The service was incredibly friendly, and the lunch menu was an amazing value. Everything was delicious, including soup and dessert, for just €12.90. And it was schnitzel day on Tuesday for €11.90! Many thanks to the entire team.

A cozy restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. The value for money is excellent; in summer you can sit outside, but even in winter the indoor seating is a good and comfortable alternative with a lovely ambiance. The staff is very attentive, the food is delicious, and the portions are generous. We go here regularly and are very satisfied.

My steak was good. Unfortunately, the rest of our food wasn't warm.

Mixed grill. The cevapcici were tough, rubbery, and limp, with gristle!! and slightly musty. The skewer was poorly seasoned and tough and wobbly, and the Croatian meatball was limp and rubbery. The meat quality was bottom of the barrel. The djuvec rice was lukewarm and bland. The mango curry coconut chicken: the chicken was good, but the sauce was not – almost no coconut flavor, it wasn't well-rounded, and it was lukewarm with the skin on. The portion size was mediocre – the price-performance ratio was outrageous. A halfway decent chip shop could do much better. NEVER again. We left the food and drove to another restaurant. Incidentally, the restaurant was sparsely populated for a Saturday – probably for good reason....

Excellent...you're escorted to your seat, just like a good restaurant should be. Excellent service... Excellent menu with amuse-bouche, exclusive schnitzel, and soup... And as a surprise, ice cream for dessert... And that for...two people...€37.50... You wouldn't be able to do that in Holland... Highly recommended...it's conveniently located on the route to the Ardennes...we'll definitely be back.

Waiting 25 minutes for coffee on a Sunday afternoon is simply not possible…

A very nice restaurant, designed for a large group. We had a family dinner there with about 25-30 people, and the food came very quickly and was very, very tasty. The dessert is also excellent.

I ate a burger. The meat was industrially produced. Any burger at McDonald's is better. Another time, I had a mixed grill for two people. The meat was undercooked and some parts were cold. I won't eat there again. The service and atmosphere are very good.

I've eaten outside on the terrace several times. The staff is friendly, even though they can get quite busy at times. The food is delicious and there's something for everyone. The menu offers a wide selection and good value for money. Ample parking and easy access.

The breakfast buffet is absolutely not recommended. I think it's outrageous to serve pre-baked rolls for the hefty price of €18. The buffet is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. By 11 a.m., there were hardly any cold cuts left, and the staff didn't even think about restocking them. Then they advertised "Children aged 6 to 12 pay the child's price," but the 12-year-old was still charged the adult price because "6 to 12" apparently means "6 to 11" to the owners. The lady reacted very unprofessionally to legitimate criticism. I will avoid this place at all costs in the future.

The food is okay, the atmosphere is quite nice. The service is terrible. I often had to wait a long time for the waiter to come over, and it seemed as if they weren't even making eye contact, so I ended up with just one drink. You order a cold drink and get a hot one, and then you hear other guests gossiping about you because you didn't accept your drink. Gossiping like that, where other guests hear it, is just ridiculous. We won't be coming back. We've been there five times, and five times we've been disappointed.

We were there with our cycling group of about 25 people, and everything was perfect. The quick service was particularly noteworthy.

We go very often to this restaurant because close to Venlo. For the second time we get this rude waiter (tall, dark brown hair and beard, glasses) who let us wait 15 minutes before to take our order and even more when we asked the bill. I know he did it on purpose because I heard him talking with a colleague. It's a pity because the food is good for the price. The service is the worst in the neighbourhood. I don't know if we ever come back, if so I make sure a different waiter assist us.

The portions are outrageously small. A main course is the size of an appetizer. When asked, they refer you to the chef and tell you that's just the way it is. So, no concessions or attempt at compromise. The only positive point is the location in the middle of the forest with a beautiful ambiance. The food is mediocre. We won't be coming back. Thumbs down.

Ate a really delicious lamb skewer

Absolutely terrible! Reserved a table for four people for 1:00 PM. We arrived at 12:50 PM and were immediately assigned a table. At 1:15 PM, our drink orders were taken care of, but only after a lot of requesting. Completely inattentive staff, poor organization! We immediately placed our food orders. At 1:45 PM, the salad was no longer fresh. At 2:15 PM, we asked if we would still get our food. Yes, in 4 minutes, was the reply. In the meantime, several groups had arrived after us, ordered, eaten, and paid. The food arrived at 2:35 PM, but we had already gotten up and were about to pay for the drinks. We then left without eating. There were two tables around us that had the same experience. The closure of this restaurant would not be a loss.

A very nice restaurant nestled in a wooded area. Dogs are also welcome. The food and service are excellent. Plenty of parking is available. Please make a reservation, as it gets busy.

Incredibly unfriendly and inflexible. With an "all-you-can-eat spare ribs" menu, the second portion was simply refused on the grounds that there weren't enough left for any future guests. Instead, cevapcici were brought. The service was overwhelmed by the request to serve wedges instead of rice. The quality of the food was also abysmal. The ambiance in the forest was quite nice, and there were also play areas for the kids. However, due to the mediocre food and unfriendly service, I wouldn't recommend it.

Super tender Tomahawk! Schnitzel with sauce also excellent. Fries, potato wedges, salad a bit less so, but okay. Great location with a large covered patio. Dogs are welcome. Nice.

We went there for breakfast today with the Dart Club. The atmosphere is very nice, but I don't find it particularly appealing when the coffee milk has been out of date since April. That shouldn't happen. I also didn't like that the desserts weren't labeled, as there could have been people with allergies. Otherwise, it was okay, but I wouldn't drive 35 km just to eat at the buffet.

The food (schnitzel) was okay, but unfortunately the waiters ignored you most of the time and it was unfortunate that it smelled of feces the whole time.

We spontaneously found this restaurant and were completely impressed. It was busy, and the ambiance in the woods is very nice. We got a table without a reservation and were served immediately. The main course and main course were very good. The grill plate is highly recommended. A large portion with freshly grilled meat in various variations. Even though there were only three of us and we consumed "normal" amounts, we still got a round of schnapps on the house! Busy restaurant, beautifully situated in the woods. Pleasant terrace and good service. They offer a typical German/Balkan menu. The food is good.

I wanted fries instead of croquettes, but they gave me croquettes. When I asked for them, they didn't respond. The food was otherwise OK.

We were very satisfied. We stopped there during our bike tour. The service was excellent. The food we had—a BBQ plate and cheeseburger—was delicious, and the kids' plates were more than adequate. The small "playground" is absolutely adequate, in my opinion. You can't complain about the price either, in my opinion. We'd be happy to come back.

Large beer garden, partly outdoors, partly covered and protected from the weather. Plenty of space inside and outside, even on weekends. Very good and reasonably priced lunch menu (3 courses); additional specials change almost daily, such as schnitzel day, spare ribs, burgers, etc. Everything is always delicious. Good service, thanks to the large staff. Highly recommended overall.

Fast service. There's also a large covered outdoor area for up to 100 people. Inside, there are three large dining rooms. Good sanitary facilities, also suitable for children. Located in a lush forest, dogs are welcome, preferably under the table where you eat outside, under the very large awning. Plenty of options on the menu. There's a small playground outside for children. Free parking is available, and the site is spacious. Two kilometers from Venlo, plenty of space in the woods for walking, even with a dog. Three of us ate there. The BBQ platter was delicious and plentiful; you should be hungry. The ambiance was simple but pleasant, a quiet forest restaurant. We will return and, of course, recommend the restaurant.

If you like good, affordable food, this is the place to be. We started with the bread and dips. Tuesdays are schnitzel day, and you can get a good schnitzel for less than 12 euros. It comes with fries and a salad. The salad has a lot of dressing, which is something you have to appreciate. The pepper sauce is really peppery, but delicious! The mushroom sauce was good, but a bit thin. The staff is friendly. When it's busy, you sometimes have to wait a bit longer, but the food was nice and hot and delicious. We sat inside; outside, you can sit under a kind of large awning. Parking sometimes has to be along the road because it gets busy.

If you want to eat tasty and cheap this is the place to be!!

We ate there last night and had never been before. My grandmother invited us to her 90th birthday party. Eleven of us went, and the bill ended up being just over €400. The restaurant is really beautifully located, and the atmosphere creates a very comfortable atmosphere. The people who served us were very nice and attentive. However, I have to criticize the food, especially the value for money. The food isn't bad, but the unanimous opinion at the table was that it was okay. I had a pepper schnitzel with fries, and I've had this quality at many snack bars before. The mayo I ordered was unfortunately forgotten. Someone else had a vegetable pan with baked feta, which had a handful of vegetables hidden under the feta. Someone else at our table had a salad plate that also cost almost €20, and it didn't even come with a proper sauce, just pureed raspberries. I suspect the side salads were pre-made dressing. Someone else at our table had black and white for €28.50 and got two small pieces of meat, each under 100 grams, and five croquettes. The pork fillet, which I tried myself, was unfortunately very dry. Especially considering the sometimes quite high prices, I have to say that the place isn't worth it. All in all, it wasn't a total failure, but it's also not a place I'd necessarily visit again. Personally, I think it's very noticeable that the place is geared towards mass production.

Have eaten at Birkenhof before, which has always been excellent in terms of food and service. Unfortunately today a very negative experience which in my opinion was not resolved professionally. We were served one dessert too many. When we mentioned this, the waiter claimed that we had ordered it twice. My grandfather is very hard of hearing so he had repeated his order to be sure. The waiter did not repeat what he had ordered, but firmly claimed that he had and did not want to take the dessert. We had to pay for it, because we had ordered it after all. Otherwise he had to pay for it and he was not going to do that. When I tried to explain that there had been a miscommunication due to the hearing loss, he said very firmly that that was not his problem... With great pain and effort he took the dessert with him. Then a drink was brought to our table twice that we had not ordered. We refused these twice. These two drinks were charged on the bill, coincidentally almost the same amount as the dessert would cost... When I mentioned this, we got the overpaid amount back without exchanging a word or making an apology, with a very unfriendly attitude from the waiter. For me, never again Birkenhof after this worthless experience and bad service!

The food is always delicious; we've eaten here several times. There's only one minor issue: the chairs outside are very heavy and not very comfortable for us. Still, I highly recommend it.

We had made a reservation here today at 6:00 PM. We were able to sit down right away. Apart from the fact that it smelled very unpleasant (egg smell), everything went well until the starter. We had been waiting a while for the main course, when our waiter came to tell us that he had lost the entire order and that he had to re-enter everything in the computer. However, he said that it had arrived at the kitchen... well, not really, because that took quite a while. This gave the impression that he had simply forgotten to pass on the order. No apologies were offered for that either, but oh well. Then we still had to wait half an hour for the food, the food itself was otherwise fine. What we found a pity was that when we paid, they didn't at least remove the coffee from the receipt, or at least offer an apology. That's the least you can do. We then paid almost the exact amount, except for 1 euro. We never saw the euro again... I almost always give a tip, something can always happen. But after this hassle, you can't assume that it's right. For us certainly the last time. Too bad, because it really is nice to sit!

A nice family restaurant on the border between Germany and the Netherlands. Only request is for the restaurant to have a smoking and non smoking section outside. It is easy solved.

Another nice sunny day in Birkenhof. Today I ordered Rahmschnitzel was delicious. My sisters-in-law ordered shrimps, unfortunately they were inedible, very tough and not cooked. Passed it on to the waiter, were then taken back to the kitchen. A little later back, (the same) Taste the same but also the sauce was now very salty, were inedible. Location is super beautiful in the middle of the forest.

The first impression was really great. We actually just wanted to stop by for coffee and cake, but when we saw the other guests' plates, our mouths started to water, and we asked for the menu. My wife only wanted a snack and chose baked, breaded feta cheese with vegetables. I opted for half and half – cevapcici and a meat skewer with fries, Duvec rice, and salad. The two Cokes and the salad arrived very quickly, but then we waited... 20 minutes... 30... 40... Then we asked, and something must have gone wrong. The feta cheese with vegetables was very good – the meat dish was already only lukewarm, and the meat was very dry. Probably kept warm too long, while something probably went wrong with the cheese on the first attempt. We don't think this is the standard of the establishment and will come back to give it a full 5 stars. The ambiance alone deserves the chance. Truly cozy, surrounded by nature. And even though the meat wasn't warm and juicy, it tasted delicious! We paid less than 40 euros, and it wouldn't have been much cheaper at a chip shop. Above all, the cheese and all the vegetables were really plentiful for an appetizer. See you soon!

A lovely large terrace in the forest where you can eat a delicious large schnitzel with fries and a salad on Tuesdays for less than twelve euros and there is a different affordable offer every day and that is why we like to cycle or walk there over the Venlo heath and then it is just over the border 😋

We were at the Birkenhof on Tuesday. We had a large schnitzel with salad and were able to sit in the beer garden. All in all, it was very good. We'll be back.

The food was okay. The schnitzel was good, but the fries were unfortunately only lukewarm. Just barely edible. The price was on the higher end. What I don't understand is why I have to pay extra if I want fries instead of croquettes or fried potatoes. The staff was friendly, but a bit overwhelmed.

Ein Kellner sah das Fleisch angekauft auf dem Teller liegen aber man bot uns keine Alternative an. Ich denke es wird hier zu wenig gelesen sonst wäre da weniger los. Schade um das schöne Lokal wenn man es gegen die Wand fahren würde. Ich geb euch den Tip...achtet mehr auf das was noch auf dem Teller liegen bleibt und ändert das. Nicht jeder traut sich hier was rein zu schreiben. Wir werden euch nicht mehr besuchen.

No. Little friendliness... you felt annoying, the vegetarian food was forgotten despite being ordered in advance and reminded. Then an unappetizing looking "schnitzel duo" came out of the deep fryer, which was still stuck together and still frozen. Incredible!!!! No apology to the guest followed! Children were rudely sent away when they wanted to ask something at the counter. Drinks were constantly forgotten or mixed up. Very disappointing. With so many guests, the toilet should be checked every now and then... 3 stars for meat dishes. Looked really good. Care is taken to ensure that money is made quickly through additional drinks for groups. Napkins nicely folded, dishes partially "chipped". Not recommended.

Hidden gem in the woods, delicious food, large portions, good price, fantastic location.

Went here on schnitzel Tuesday to have a nice meal, just to be on the safe side I made a reservation via the website at 6:30 PM and that went well, it was a busy day but it was also during the May holidays, nevertheless the starter and main course were on the table quickly. The 4 of us had a delicious meal here, but the iced coffee is not recommended, it had little taste. for the rest, beautiful surroundings, play equipment for children. all in all a good experience.

Without a table reservation you had to sit in the anteroom, although there were a number of rooms with tables available. Of course, that was visually impressive; almost all the tables in the anteroom were occupied, which otherwise would have been visually confusing.
