Delicious food but very bad service. We waited almost two hours for the food...when we called in, they said it might take a while, it was busy. We understand that, but there are limits somewhere. When we wanted to drink something at the end, we got the wrong drink twice. The waiter then wanted to start a discussion about what we had ordered. The service, apart from a very young boy, was very unfriendly, they didn't even ask if everything was as requested and there was no apology. This wasn't the first time and we'll definitely never come back... Too bad...

We were here for the first time today. Today was schnitzel day. I ate a mushroom cream schnitzel and my husband ate a gypsy schnitzel. The schnitzels were large, tender and tasty. The sauces also tasted very good. There were also French fries and a mixed salad. We ate outside. There is a beautiful pond and beautiful flowers here. Everything seems very cozy and it's really big. There is plenty of seating. The waiters are all very nice and friendly too. We'll definitely come back here.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the critical voices. After being ignored for the first 10 minutes and not even having a menu, I then waited 70 (!) minutes for my food, only to be served a very carelessly prepared meal. Really a shame.

We've been to the Birkenhof several times over the last few years and each time it got worse! We won't go there anymore!! The service was underground! The waiters constantly looked away, just didn't look at the guest, he might want to order something!! We would have liked to drink more, but unfortunately it wasn't possible to order! 3 of 4 main courses came at the same time, after 10 minutes my husband went to ask if they had forgotten his dish. The arrogant waiter replied that they would never forget anything!! When he asked where his food was, he became hectic and went into the kitchen. The food was put on the table without a word of regret! I pointed out my missing side salad, but I'm still waiting for that! In the past it was definitely recommended, but today definitely not!!! The food was average, the friendliness was absolutely non-existent, absolute mass processing! Never again

We visited the Birkenhof, located in the middle of the forest, shortly after it opened at 12 p.m. After looking at the menu, we ordered from the daily menu. Two salmon and one pork in cream, served in a pan. Unfortunately, part of a salmon plate was completely dead. Otherwise everything was very tasty. There was also a pea soup as an appetizer and a piece of cake at the end. We paid just 60 euros for three people with drinks and espressos!!! The service was always friendly and accommodating. The property was very well maintained, as were the toilets. It's good that the way to the restaurant is signposted, as you can find a well-maintained path from the main road to the Birkenhof. We have found a new favorite restaurant and we will excuse the fried salmon, I could have said something.

We were there spontaneously because we were on holiday in the town. After we answered the question whether we had reserved with no, our eyes were rolled even though there were still enough places. You were looked at from all over the place, which gave you a very uncomfortable feeling. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food. When it arrived it was cold. But it tasted good. We hadn't finished eating yet when the first things were cleared away and we were asked if we wanted to pay. The side dish salt consisted of 1 tomato, 1 cucumber and 5 leaves of lettuce We left €94 for 3 schnitzels with a side dish, 1 starter, 1 fries with nuggets and 5 drinks. All in all, not again.

Wir besuchten das Restaurant an einem sonnigen Sonntagmittag durch Zufall bei einem Ausflug. Es war gut besucht,man wurde von einem Herrn an einen Tisch gewiesen. Leider waren sehr viele Gesellschaften dort,die sich betranken und rücksichtslos laut waren. Dies wurde vom Personal toleriert .Auf meine Bitte nach einem ruhigeren Platz wurde verächtlich geantwortet,dass man sich ja in den Wald setzen könnte.. Wir blieben leider,da wir hungrig waren.. Das Essen war für eine Katastrophe, Imbissbuden haben oft bessere Qualität, knorpeliges Cevapcici,trockene Schnitzel mit Fertigsauce. Wir verstehen nicht,wie man Gäste so schlecht bewirten kann.

Mutig, sich in der heutigen Zeit noch zu trauen, Gäste zu vergraulen. Schlechter Service, teilweise arrogant, sehr lange Wartezeiten, kein Entgegenkommen bei Fehlern der Organisation des Restaurants. Essen war ok, mehr aber nicht. Ein Wiedersehen wird es nicht geben.

An evening out with the family should be something special, but unfortunately it doesn't seem that way anymore... We wanted to give the Birkenhof another chance... But waited 1.5 hours for the food, the starter 6 pieces of baguette with aijoli for 6.95 didn't fit... The grill plate made the meat fatty and the fillet dry…. The side salad just green leaves a hint of carrot and that's it. I would say that one side of the burger was on the grill a little too long... Price/performance considerably poor… And people who think you should complain on site… the waiters left us sitting without drinks for almost 30 minutes, the food came after 1.5 hours…. Service is really something else, the waiters seem rather annoyed and are not in favor of a smile but then expect a double-digit tip. Never again!!!

Wir hatten online einen Tisch für 11 Personen draußen reserviert. Hierzu erhielten wir am Tag vor der Reservierung nochmal eine E-Mail mit einer Erinnerung. Demzufolge war unsere Reservierung im System erfasst. Als wir dann um 19 Uhr eintrafen und nach unserem reservierten Tisch fragten, teilte man uns mit, dass wir nicht in der Reservierungsliste stehen würden und somit kein Tisch für uns bereit wäre. Wir sollten uns drinnen hinsetzen und warten bis draußen ein Tisch frei werden würde. Dabei wurde uns gesagt, dass es über eine Stunde dauern würde falls wir etwas zu essen bestellen wollten. Nach etwa 45 Minuten war dann ein Tisch draußen für uns frei. Das Essen hatte eine ungewohnt schlechte Qualität. Hierbei wurden Vorspeisen vergessen und mit dem Hauptgang serviert und eine Essen wurde komplett vergessen und kam nochmal 20 Minuten später. Als wir dann die Rechnung zahlen wollten mussten wir wieder 30 Minuten warten. Fazit: Es ist ziemlich peinlich und nicht akzeptabel, dass eine Reservierung online bestätigt wird und dann trotzdem vergessen wird. Das Verhalten der Kellner war arrogant. Es wirkte sehr unorganisiert und unprofessionell. Im Vergleich zu früher hat sich die Gastfreundlichkeit deutlich verschlechtert, das Management scheint nicht mehr professionell zu arbeiten. Am Ende des Abends wollten wir dem Geschäftsführer ein Feedback geben. Zuerst hieß es, er sei nicht im Hause, dann sei er plötzlich beim essen und habe keine Zeit. Schlechte oder eigentlich gar keine Gastfreundlichkeit ist schon schlimm genug, aber den Gast auch noch zu ersuchen für dumm zu verkaufen ist eine Frechheit. Ich bin auf den Birkenhof nicht angewiesen, es gibt genug Restaurants. Wenn der Birkenhof so weiter macht, werden die Gäste immer weniger. Schade, sehr enttäuschend.

I was there for the first and last time. We reserved a table outside for 10 people. Apparently the reservation wasn't in the system on site - OK! We were transported inside - but the manner and arrogant manner was outrageous (as if it was our fault and not their problem). It goes even further. A starter was forgotten and came straight with the main course (no go!). One person received their main course 20 minutes after everyone else. My lamb fillet was well done and not medium. Bad for 30 euros... At the end we wanted to give the boss feedback on the whole mishap. The waiter told us that he was no longer in the house. Another waiter later told us that the boss was eating inside. What's that supposed to mean?!? I will never eat there again. It's a shame that good service has become a rarity these days.

Ich war das erste und letzte Mal dort. Wir haben für 10 Leute einen Tisch draussen reserviert. Vor Ort war die Reservierung angeblich nicht im System - OK! Wir wurden nach innen verfrachtet - aber die Art und arrogante Weise war da schon unverschämt (als ob es unser verschulden sei und nicht deren Problem). Es geht noch weiter.. Eine Vorspeise wurde vergessen und kam direkt mit zum Hauptgang ( no go!). Eine Person hat ihre Hauptspeise erst 20min nach allen anderen erhalten.Mein Lammfilet war durch und nicht medium. Für 30 Euro schlecht.... Am Ende wollten wir dem Chef ein Feedback zu dem ganzen Malheur geben. Der Kellner sagte uns, dass dieser nicht mehr im Hause sei. Ein anderer Kellner sagte uns später, dass der Chef drinnen am Essen sei. Was soll das?!? Nie wieder werde ich dort essen.

The Birkenhof is quite remote in a forest. It is very busy and the staff assigns you a table. Unfortunately, we found it to be mass processing... very loud with many groups, the food/cevapcici and schnitzel from the deep fryer with ready-made sauces. The service staff are rude and rude. Too bad about the money.

We reserved a table for 10 people outside, unfortunately we didn't look at the list and we were looked at as if we were criminals. The manager didn't even apologize and gave us a table inside for "20 minutes" until something became available outside. The food was bad, I forgot the starter, received it cold with the main course, my burger was dry, the lamb was cooked through and because there wasn't enough my girlfriend had to wait 20 minutes for her food because she forgot. Gastronomy is difficult to understand and to get good staff, but a guest should be treated with respect, not in this restaurant.

Heerlijke plek in de bossen, prima sfeer , lekker gegeten , zowel de rumpsteak als de schnitzel,lekkere salades en als aperitiefhapje kregen we een vers gebakken broodje met kruidenboter en olijven .Héél vriendelijk personeel , zéker een aanrader!

The food was delicious, but we had to wait a very long time for our son's pizza. The man who delivered the pizza was very friendly and also apologized for the long wait. That was also the only positive thing about the staff, they were anything but looking forward to it, barely a sigh came out of their mouths after taking the order, and at checkout they couldn't even say thank you and have a nice evening.

The restaurant is located in the countryside and the atmosphere is very nice. The service was also good. I ordered a grill plate and was quite disappointed. The meat was much too dry than if it had been warmed up. The price-performance ratio is not right here at all.

The ambience is really nice and the sunny day literally called for a piece of cake with cream. We paid a little over €15 for two pieces of cake (probably not homemade), a coffee and a spritzer. Not necessarily a snapper but not wildly overpriced either. If you're going on a trip, I can recommend the Birkenhof as a pit stop without reservation. The playground is nice for children.

I went here for waffles based on a recommendation. There is a large selection of different weapons, all at reasonable prices. I tried the one with hot cherries and cream. I can confirm that there are the best waffles around here. My journey, about 30 minutes, was worth it. Clear recommendation.

Unfortunately super disappointing. Reserved a table for seven people and got one for four people because there were only five of us. Of 50 tables, maybe 4 were occupied. We asked for a larger table and were told that if we wanted to pay for a larger table, we would get it. Absolutely incomprehensible, the whole store was empty. The staff was super cheeky and arrogant. The food is also mediocre at best, the meat is super dry. The starter salad was also only served after the main course because it was accidentally forgotten. As well as a main course for one of us. Please note that there was nothing going on in the restaurant. Unbelievable - just avoid it.

The location is beautiful. We ordered a goulash soup, which was really tasty, and a hunter's nitzel. Snitzel was a large size and was tasty. Only the hunter sauce was very salty. Shame. Price has nothing to say about it. Some waiters could use a lesson in serving 😉 but they were friendly. We were in a spot where every now and then a sewage stench emerged. We weren't the only ones who smelled that. So that was less.

The service was friendly and tried hard, but there is still room for improvement. Long wait until drinks could be ordered even though there were only a few guests present. Afterwards there were a few situations where one had the impression that the staff was overwhelmed. Nevertheless we will come back. Maybe people were just having a bad day.

Had a grill plate that fully corresponded to the price/performance. My wife had a salad with fish and balsamic dressing, unfortunately the bread that came with it wasn't suitable. Note to the kitchen, briefly fry on both sides with olive oil. Service quick and courteous.

Leider nicht empfehlenswert. Der Salat mit "Hausdressing" war nicht genießbar. Das Dressing schmeckte wie aus dem Eimer mit viel Remoulade angerührt. Der Salat war unter einer fettigen, dicken Paste begraben. Als ich dem Service meinen voll gebliebenen Teller zeigte und sagte, dass es mir gar nicht schmeckte, zeigte sich der Kellner irritiert. Als ich sagte, dass das Dressing Remoulade pur sei, antwortete er, das Dressing sei hausgemacht mit Mayonnaise. Keinerlei Bedauern, nicht mal einen Espresso angeboten bekommen. Einfach egal, der Gast ist nichts wert. Essen ungenügend. Das Lokal an sich ist eigentlich ganz schön, aber mich sieht es nie wieder. Nicht empfehlenswert.

You can go for a nice walk or hike in the area, then take the dogs to the beer garden. Friendly and quick service and delicious food, we felt very comfortable.

We took a break here during a bike ride. Great ambience in the middle of the countryside. Parking options for bicycles in sight. Very good selection of food and drinks. We would be happy to rest here again if we had the opportunity.

Unfortunately it has become progressively worse. A few years ago I was the organizer of my son's baptism party, when everything was still in order and everything was absolutely great. Last summer we were annoyed by a few things that we also complained about. Since everyone deserves a second chance, we're going again today after the last failure of 2023. The food was cold, all dishes were not even lukewarm, the fries were soggy, the meat was dry in places, the cevapcici was good, but also cold. In addition, there are long waiting times despite many free tables and the prices have now gone through the roof drastically. You won't find the warmth you're used to in Balkan restaurants these days. It's cold here, the bare minimum in terms of service and quick cash. But as long as buses continue to be brought in, nothing will change. Quantity instead of class? A pity. We were there last time. Unfortunately. There are much better alternatives in the area (but unfortunately they weren't open at lunchtime).

Wir waren an Pfingstmontag zu sechst im Birkenhof. Zunächst einmal wurde ich bei der Reservierung gar nicht gefragt, ob wir draußen oder drinnen sitzen möchten. Wir bekamen einen Tisch draußen. Das ist eigentlich kein Problem. Hätten wir allerdings gewusst, wie lange wir warten müssen, hätten wir uns Jacken mitgenommen. Der Tisch war nass, wurde aber nicht abgewischt. Die Kellner waren mehr als wortkarg und liefen teilweise total gebückt herum, sodass man den Eindruck hatte, dass sie nur funktionieren müssen, aber total überarbeitet sind. Fröhlich oder lächelnd habe ich keinen erlebt. Wir bekamen mit, dass ein Kellner am Nebentisch sagte, dass man mindestens eine Stunde auf das Essen warten müsse, weil es sehr voll sei. Wir bekamen diese Info nicht mitgeteilt, wussten aber nun schon mal Bescheid. Tatsächlich dauerte es dann gut 80 Minuten, bis wir unser Essen bekamen - allerdings nur fünf statt sechs. Und das kommentarlos. Nach 5 Minuten des Wartens fragten wir, ob das sechste Essen vergessen worden sei. "Nicht vergessen", war die Antwort. "Kommt sofort". Weitere zehn Minuten vergingen. Dann bekam mein Freund sein Schnitzel Hawaii und es war ihm deutlich anzusehen, dass der Koch es auf die Schnelle zusammengebastelt hatte. Der Käse war nicht ansatzweise geschmolzen, das Fleisch war stellenweise nicht durchgebraten und schmeckte wässrig. Die dazu servierten Röstis waren eiskalt. Kalt war auch mein Barbecue-Burger. Das Fleisch war eher eine viel zu dicke Frikadelle als ein Burger-Patty und im Kern mehr als medium. Die Pommes waren immerhin sehr lecker. Mein Sohn hatte ein Steak, das eigentlich medium sein sollte. Dieses war stellenweise trocken und durchgebraten. Das Schnitzel meines Vaters war ebenfalls kalt und die Zwiebeln einmal in der Mitte durchgeschnitten und maximal zwanzig Sekunden in der Pfanne gewesen - sprich: roh. Da wir natürlich wegen der langen Wartezeit Hunger ohne Ende hatten, aßen wir soweit es zumutbar war. Der Kellner machte beim Abräumen zunächst den Anschein, als wolle er noch nicht einmal der Höflichkeit halber fragen, ob es geschmeckt habe. Schließlich fragte er: "Alles gut?" Wir verneinten. Gegenfrage: "Warum?" Ich erklärte es ihm und bekam zunächst noch Widerworte, weil er mir noch einmal weismachen wollte, man habe das Essen meines Freundes nicht vergessen. Ich zeigte ihm die Reste und erklärte, warum wir sehr wohl dieser Ansicht seien. Da kam dann ein einsilbiges: "Tut mir leid." Das war alles. Für diesen teilweise ungenießbaren Mist haben wir am Ende 185 Euro bezahlt. Positiv waren lediglich die Pommes, die Zigeunersauce und die kalten Getränke. Alles andere war schlichtweg eine Unverschämtheit, inklusive des freudlosen Services. Wäre der Birkenhof nicht so schön gelegen, käme hier sicherlich niemand hin. Das Essen ist jedenfalls keine Motivation. Wir kommen auf alle Fälle nicht wieder.

So we were there yesterday with 7 people. Table was reserved. However, we all unfortunately have to say that Ed wasn't good at all. The food was cold. Many of the meat wasn't cooked through, even though it was a pork schnitzel. The sauces were cold. Even though they let it go back, it still wasn't okay. Seven of us have decided that we will no longer go there.

You can take a lot of leftover food with you and eat it for another day.

Tuesday cutting day. Good snitzel for 12 euros. But the staff are so grumpy. Especially when they didn't get a tip, it got even worse. Not a decent good day. And they have never heard of a receipt. When we arrived we were initially only allowed to sit outside when it was just 18 degrees.

Delicious food, good service, located in the middle of the forest and when the weather is nice there is a large terrace where dogs are also allowed and a playground for the children

Great restaurant with huge terrace, enough to accommodate large groups of friends or large families. Located in the middle of a magnificent forest, very quiet (depending on the groups present haha). The food was very good and the service was great! I will definitely go back!

On the way through, made a rest stop here. Although the restaurant was very remote, it was well attended. The service and the ambience were well coordinated. The food boasted good taste and generous size, and the expectations of delicious cevapcici were fulfilled.

Today I ate a really delicious tomahawk steak from you!!! Super juicy and really tasty!!! The service was very attentive and friendly!!! The outdoor area was tip top clean and geared towards summer!!! Keep it up, I always enjoy coming to eat with you!!!

The food was super tasty 😋 The service was apparently not in a good mood and we had to wait forever to order something to drink. The waiter was probably not in a good mood.

The burger that sounded really great and high quality on the menu is just a cheap frozen patty! Simply incredible! The service was also more than modest. If we hadn't gotten a menu ourselves, we probably wouldn't have gotten one... well, it would have been better in the end. Unfortunately, the beautiful ambience dazzled us :-(

Poor service, waited over an hour for food. When the food came it was lukewarm. Waiter very unfriendly. Conclusion: one star is still too much. Never again !

I can't understand the negative reviews. Friendly welcome, separate lunch menu with soup, main course with small salad and dessert. Everything came for us (3 people) everything quickly and at the same time and very tasty. Can only be recommended in conjunction with a nice walk

Stop for a hike on the terrace. Very nicely located. Food was great.

A very nice restaurant in the middle of the Venlo Heath and a great garden restaurant, from here you can go on great hikes or bike rides
