I was there for a Christmas party. The food selection was really limited for a buffet. Eggs in every imaginable way. Well, three dishes were added at lunchtime. But the side dishes weren't to my liking. Duck with potato gratin? Or croquettes? There wasn't much space at the buffet itself. The restaurant is quite dated. Some panes of glass are missing from the door, plaster is lying on the floor, and the toilet seats are unsuitable. I definitely won't be going there again. The service was infrequent.

Very pleasant atmosphere, friendly waiters and tasty food.

We went for the Christmas buffet. The selection was okay, but not really worth €40. Some of the hot dishes were cold. Unfortunately, there was no chocolate dessert. On the plus side, there was a relatively wide range of vegetarian options and vegetables at the buffet.

We were here last week for a company Christmas party. The atmosphere was great; we were seated in a separate room. Unfortunately, it was very cold, and some colleagues sat in their jackets all evening. The small heater that was brought in after an hour didn't make the room much warmer. The food: the vegetarian options were good, but for example, ten colleagues had duck breast, red cabbage, and dumplings. The meat was incredibly tough and tasted like liver. The red cabbage was okay, and the dumplings, while tiny, were tasty. The problem was that there was far too little sauce, and everything was only lukewarm. The plates were white with quite high rims; it was neither visually appealing nor practical. The restrooms: a complete disaster... dirty, run-down, and the yellowed toilet seats, for example, were wobbly and crooked. I was practically sitting with half my backside on the cold ceramic. I was disgusted because the condition of the restrooms was truly awful. See photos. We were supposed to pay individually at the counter, which was fine. But the man who took our money was very annoyed and unfriendly. The only bright spot was the man who served us all evening. He was incredibly nice and patient. (Although it was a bit odd that he was only wearing trousers and a sweatshirt in such a sophisticated and wonderful setting.) I definitely won't be coming back.

Highly recommended for brunch, however the staff has some oddities.

Lured in by the media, but unfortunately disappointed. Mushy but burnt fried potatoes, dry pan-fried fish, cold duckburger. Better to go to Stralsunder or Kogge.

In summer, it's lovely if you manage to snag one of the outdoor tables. You're right in the heart of the city, and every now and then a tram whizzes past. Despite that, it's actually quite peaceful and very cozy, and the sun seems to warm you until evening. :) The menu offers a really good selection of dishes to suit every taste, and the prices are fair. Yesterday, I had the summer pasta (spaghettini, pistachio-lime pesto, snow peas, baby peas, oven-roasted tomatoes, and Parmesan crunch) with two king prawns fried in garlic oil – it was quite possibly the most delicious thing I've had in a long time, honestly! Add a glass of wine or one of the various Rostock beers, and you don't need anything more.

We went there for brunch on November 23, 2025, with a group of 10, and we all agreed that the food had declined significantly. A year ago, everything was great, but this time we were disappointed. The waitresses tried very hard, but as I said, the food (one type of meat, one type of fish) was disappointing. It's a shame the quality has deteriorated so much. We visited the Ratskeller for the first time in many years. The rustic atmosphere is lovely. The food was also good. Unfortunately, it was quite cold throughout the restaurant, and the service seemed rather tired. The restrooms were very dirty. In conclusion: the food was delicious, but the rest could be improved.

We recently went there for Sunday brunch on a company outing. The ambiance is very nice, however, the service left much to be desired. For 15 people, there were only two pots of coffee and two bottles of water, which weren't refilled despite regular dish collection. The food, unfortunately, wasn't good for the price. There was too little variety. Too many egg dishes and not enough hot options. There was a lack of diversity. For children, there weren't many choices. For almost €40, we really expected more.

A truly fantastic and unique restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. The food was excellent, with a diverse menu offering something for everyone. The wait time was minimal. But what really stood out was the superb customer service – a rarity in Rostock! The waiters and waitresses regularly checked if everything was alright, always friendly and smiling. Special mention goes to the young manager, who clearly went out of his way to ensure all guests were satisfied. Overall, a fantastic dining experience – we will definitely be back!

The ambiance was very nice, the food was rather mediocre but still OK value for money. The service was absolutely terrible. The waiters were inexperienced and seemed to completely lack leadership. It's a shame, because it's actually a nice restaurant.

The Ratskeller is truly a very historic restaurant, and the ambiance is perfect. However, for the price, it wasn't worth it at all. We had two Wiener schnitzels, a beer, and a bottle of water. We paid €77. The schnitzel was truly abysmal for the price. My schnitzel was very tough, thick, and had gristle in it. My companion's didn't have any gristle, but it was also very thick and rather chewy. The fried potatoes that came with it, however, were very good, while the fries were rather average (just regular fries, not crispy, not justifying the price). Cranberries and ketchup cost extra, which isn't a big deal in principle, but considering the overall price, it was a real shame that we left hungry. On the positive side, however, the food arrived very quickly and the service was quite friendly.

We've eaten at the Ratskeller several times now, for brunch, dinner, and coffee, and have been more than satisfied every time. The food tastes wonderful and the portions are huge. The staff is also incredibly friendly. We'd happily return!

The service was very nice and friendly, the prices are perfectly reasonable, and the atmosphere in the Ratskeller is pleasant. I had a schnitzel with fried potatoes – unfortunately, the fried potatoes were cold, which somewhat spoiled the overall impression. One major drawback was the men's restroom: very dirty, and the walls were covered in graffiti – which didn't fit with the otherwise pleasant ambiance. Overall, it was okay, but there's room for improvement – ​​especially in the cleanliness of the restrooms and the temperature of the food.

Sunday brunch!!! Disappointing food. Pasta with tomato sauce definitely doesn't belong at brunch, more at the kids' buffet. Smoked pork was tough, barely any sauce, and the alternative was a knuckle of pork. No, that was definitely lacking. Sorry, big minus point for the kitchen!

A restaurant with a rustic flair.

We went to the Ratskeller for brunch last Sunday. Unfortunately, our past expectations weren't met. We arrived at 10 a.m., sat down, had a coffee, and then headed to the buffet. Unfortunately, they were out of rolls by then, and we had to wait over 15 minutes for more. The breakfast selection was also better a few years ago. The sausage platter was really mediocre, no fish, no minced meat (which is something you like to eat for breakfast, too). When the lunch menu was set out, I was really disappointed. There was only one type of meat, with only one side dish (potato gratin) and a few vegetables. For dessert, there was only one type of cake, nothing more. No small glasses or anything else. What was served was delicious, but for the price (€36.90 per person), I can't currently recommend the Ratskeller for brunch. It's a real shame, because there used to be more choice for a cheaper price.

Rostock is a beautiful, historic place! The Ratskeller is all the more unoriginal and inauthentic. Lounge music, exorbitant prices, and impersonal service. Be sure to check Maps for alternatives in the area!

We often went to the Ratskeller zum Bruchen because we always appreciated the variety and quality of the offerings. We were happy to pay the price for that and treat ourselves to this little break. Today we were simply disappointed: So many dishes had been completely removed from the menu, such as salmon, the sweet children's section, soups, a selection of bread rolls, cheese crisps, and fresh fruit. We understand that it's not so easy to predict in the summer and fewer guests come for brunch, but in our opinion, it's more a question of quantity, which you have to keep an eye on and organize, rather than skimping on variety, i.e., quality, since the price is the same as what you ultimately pay as a customer. On top of that, several items weren't even replenished in the two hours we were there as a family, even though they were empty. Since the Ratskeller's new schedule now seems to be offering this as a summer solution, we've decided that this will be our last visit, as the price-performance ratio is no longer in proportion. A real shame!

This Ratskeller is very beautiful and well-designed. The service is attentive and friendly. The food is fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. The drinks and cocktails are very good and well-mixed.

The restaurant is very nice and the food was excellent, but what truly made the experience outstanding was the service. The lady taking care of the tables was exceptional! extremely kind, very fast, always attentive, and incredibly professional. It’s rare to come across such impeccable service! she was absolutely amazing and made the experience perfect!

The food was really good, and the setting is worthy of a five-star rating, that's for sure. The waiters were a bit confused, but that's understandable given the sheer number of guests. Everyone was very nice.

Update August 10, 2025: We were so incredibly disappointed with the buffet today that we left :( It's currently so heavily discounted that none of the things we usually like to eat there were available (at least we didn't see them at 9:00 AM). - no chicken nuggets (yes, they're usually really delicious ;)) - no smoked pork (Kasseler) - not a single one of the otherwise delicious salads - no fish - no broth - no fresh fruit - no baked beans - no rice pudding - no Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes) - no pudding/red fruit compote/quark - no Petri bread One of my two stars goes to your lovely employee who explained to us why you're doing this. The second star is for your attitude towards not wanting to waste food – which is why the buffet is so small! So few people come in the summer that the Ratskeller has to throw away too much at the end of the day. We think that's a great idea in principle! But in our opinion, you're going about it the wrong way. You have a reputation to lose with your otherwise great buffet! If there are too few customers in the summer, wouldn't it be a better solution to wait until the fall to offer the buffet again? Or alternatively, offer the currently reduced selection, but then please at a correspondingly lower price? What we as (regular) guests would have expected, at the very least, would be transparency. So, a note when making a reservation that the buffet is currently on a reduced price. Or a quick call if the reservation was made a while ago (you sometimes call to ask if people are actually coming on the day of the reservation when you're at full capacity). Or your newsletter! You could also keep us informed there. Imagine making a reservation for a birthday party with several people, possibly even coming from out of town (keyword: time and money), and then finding this?! At the same (high, but justified for a regular buffet) price as usual??? --> To clarify, we left without eating or drinking anything and therefore without paying. If the buffet really is cheaper at the moment, things will obviously be a little different. It's such a shame! I'd be happy to raise my rating back to 5 stars if everything is back to normal next time. We think your approach to food waste is really good and important! Just please consider an alternative method. And if, as I said, it's simply transparency, you're alienating guests. Even those who have always been loyal to you. My friend invited us to a special birthday party. A young man gave us a friendly welcome, and he also immediately got us some flower vases. Unfortunately, the two nicely set tables (14 people) were separated. The young staff was friendly, but sometimes they had trouble keeping track of the large number of guests. By 10:15 a.m., the scrambled eggs, pizza, and a third course were all gone, and it took a while to refill. Rolls were stale, and the homemade egg, meat, and poultry salads were far too runny. Any Italian would have run away from the antipasta. It went on like this! Mashed potatoes were all over – waiting, lucky, we got herring and salmon. Guys, it's summer, why Kasler with sauerkraut? No fresh vegetables or salads, and they skimped on the spices! Fine dining is different! The restaurant is 800 years old, which you can see from the restrooms – disgusting. Even the men said so! I hope the birthday girl doesn't take it too seriously; we had fun and saw each other again. To the Ratskeller: Despite the staff shortage, someone should take charge of the buffet, work more with fresh produce, and clean the restrooms! Good luck! Christine

There were a few free tables outside. I asked the waitress if I could choose something, and she said yes. Two other waiters were serving customers next to her, but neither of them thought to come over, so after about 15-20 minutes I got up without ordering and went somewhere else to eat. What a shame.

Under no circumstances should you order the councilman's platter for 2-3 people...it might be enough for two people, but it's over €25 more expensive than two regular meals. Ours was also missing two sausages, the fried potatoes were cold, and overall, there were far too few side dishes. Despite repeated complaints, we were charged full price, and we're still waiting for the coffee we were offered at the end as compensation.

It's a basement restaurant where there's not enough light in my opinion, but the seats are cozy. We were there by chance and reserved a table for brunch on Sunday. We got it quickly and Lena explained brunch to us. The dishes are absolutely beautifully presented and taste excellent. Unbeatable food, service, atmosphere. We ordered the most tender ox jaws (secret recipe😉), with delicious mashed potatoes, asparagus, crispy vegetable chips, delicious sauce etc. In addition, fresh local draft beer. We ended the dinner with a dream of a freshly baked chocolate cake with a liquid center, berries and vanilla ice cream. What a fantastic experience - we will definitely be back the next time we visit beautiful Rostock.

I was there for brunch on a Sunday (in the basement). I went there for the very first time, and I'm absolutely thrilled...not just with the overall ambiance, but also with the entire display for and during brunch. Absolutely delicious things to enjoy and relax in. The seating is quiet and comfortable. Unfortunately, the restrooms need an overhaul; loose fixtures and toilet seats are pretty annoying. They ruin the overall atmosphere. But overall, it still gets 5 stars because the staff definitely make up for it.

Went to brunch in the Ratskeller on Sunday as a couple. The food was OK. The location too. The brunch would definitely have been really good. Got a table at 12 p.m. (brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.). It was our first brunch and we didn't think anything of it. You are greeted warmly and taken to the table, but then nothing is explained to you. No information, which meant we only discovered later that we could only get lunch. And then only one plate because of the huge crowd. We were only offered lunch and then paid the full price for it. 40€ for water and a plate, or just lunch. You're always smarter in hindsight. I can still accept the service thing, but the "wrong" reservation, I don't know what I can say about it. Let's see if we go there again to eat a la carte.

We got a table at short notice without a reservation and received a very warm welcome. The service was very attentive and friendly, and the food was fantastic. Great team and great restaurant I went to the Ratskeller for a second time, this time with my girls and with a table reservation. What can I say... Overall, the brunch is highly recommended. Unfortunately, the service didn't keep up with the clearing, but that will definitely be expanded. The food was delicious and no wishes were left unfulfilled. You can save yourself the lunch portion and instead grab the breakfast buffet again! We were invited here for brunch for a birthday. It was well organized. Very cozy. High-quality food, drinks, sweets, fish, everything is included. Of course also sparkling wine. An all-round successful birthday. Thank you very much, gladly again. And because we were briefly seated at the wrong table, there was a small apology. Great gesture!

My best friend and I went there today for Women's Day brunch. The reception was extremely friendly, the woman from the kitchen was also in a good mood and immediately toasted us. Overall, everyone who worked there was very nice, had a smile on their faces and that's important. You feel at home as a guest. The buffet was very large, varied and had something for everyone! The visit there was very worthwhile and we were definitely not there for the last time.

Wir waren im Mai 2022 das letzte Mal im Ratskeller und total begeistert. Hatten uns danach einen Gutschein schenken lassen, den wir jetzt endlich mal einlösen wollten. Das Essen war wieder gut, aber erst leider wurde erst bei einer Haupspeise die Soßenbeilage vergessen und dann bei der Nachspeise die Hauptkomponente. Die Servicekraft musste die Küche davor noch einmal ans Dessert erinnern. Es gab auch keine Entschuldigung. Sorry, aber sowas sollte nicht passieren bei einem Restaurant in diesem Preissegment.

Today we went to Ratskeller for brunch again. As always, it was great, the large selection for breakfast and then the warm part for lunch is just really good. The atmosphere is great, the service is great! Not to forget the kitchen staff with the lively music that encouraged us to sing along:) Another very nice Sunday with you. New Year's Eve party turned out to be a seniors' meeting. Not recommended for younger audiences. Kick-off at 6:00 p.m., no program other than a DJ for the rest of the evening. Berliners were dry, there was no celebratory menu (nothing that you wouldn't prepare yourself at home), the buffet wasn't refilled, there was no service contact with the guest if you sat a bit apart. Unfortunately far too expensive for the offer provided.

Went there for brunch on Saturday. The food was plentiful, varied and delicious, and from 12 p.m. onwards some items were replaced with lunch. The service was quick and friendly, even the head chef (I think) came out occasionally to ask if everything was OK. The ambience is also great, rustic, cozy and still chic. Price/performance ratio is really okay, especially since all drinks are included. For example, you can get as many bottles of champagne as you want.

Beautiful location, staff, the food was a 10/10 and the cocktails were made with a lot of dedication. Highly recommended.

We were there spontaneously with a group of 18 people and had a delicious lunch there. It was very good service and the food was very lovingly and exceptionally prepared. The restaurant can be reached barrier-free if someone from the staff operates the elevator.

We went there with our family for Christmas brunch. We do this every year and we've enjoyed it here the best so far. Very, very friendly staff, a good volume where you can still have a conversation, coziness and, above all, great food. This was remodeled at 12 noon. Red white wine and Prosecco as well as juice, water and coffee were included. Only the toilets were no longer very inviting towards the end, so a quick interim cleaning would have been necessary. But overall a very successful day, thank you very much!

Tuna Tatiki as a starter convinced me and was very delicious. Everything came together well and was a pleasant portion. However, the cheese spaetzle completely disappointed me. I've never had such bad cheese spaetzle, completely overloaded with spring onions and parsley. The cheese was stringy in the sauce and not homogeneous. I felt like it was simply a water broth with a hint of cheese. Extremely bad. Unfortunately.

We were there in a large group. Ambiance was nice, toilets unclean and old. The menu was very limited. Some of the dishes (duck) were really very good, others below average. Drinks very expensive. The store itself claims to have a large selection of gin and practically presents gin as a house specialty. But this was the biggest cheek in a long time. The waiter was very friendly most of the evening. When we complained about the weak mixed gin drinks, the waiter came back with two shot glasses and refilled them. Only then, two seconds later, did he tell us that he now had to charge for the two schnapps to make up for our drinks. This was really completely unacceptable. In summary, little accommodating towards the guests, quality of the food fluctuates from very good to below average. I wouldn't go there again.

We were there for the Christmas buffet and were thoroughly satisfied! When we entered we were greeted very warmly and taken straight to our table after we had given our reservation details. The selection was plentiful and the food was very tasty and really nicely presented and prepared. The staff was consistently friendly and all food was refilled in a timely manner. We'll be stopping by again soon to try out the Sunday brunch. Thank you very much and best regards

Restauranten kører buffet til 36 Euro til jul. Man kan ikke vælge andet. Lyder som en rimelig pris men du får mulighed for lidt tør and, laks og diverse tilbehør. Ost og kage har stået alt for længe… Den ene stjerne er for restaurantens service og hyggelige miljø. Men lad vær at falde i fælden og tro du kommer og får god mad.
