I was at Primitivo yesterday, November 1st, and could hardly believe they still had fresh porcini mushrooms – and what mushrooms they were! The risotto was cooked to perfection: creamy, with a slight bite, and intensely flavorful. The fried porcini on top smelled fantastic and tasted earthy and nutty – simply brilliant. No unnecessary frills, just honest flavor and impeccable craftsmanship. The service was friendly, attentive, and relaxed. A glass of white wine accompanied the meal, and it was a perfect match. For me, it was one of the best dishes I've eaten this year – a huge compliment to the kitchen!

I ended up at Primitivo for lunch. The pasta alle melanzane was perfectly cooked, with a sweet and spicy sauce and crispy eggplant strips – simple yet delicious. The portion was just right, nothing heavy. The service was quick and friendly, and bread and water arrived immediately. A glass of white wine was the perfect complement, and the price for lunch was excellent. I'd happily stop here again.

Anyone who eats out a lot will be familiar with this: In "normal" pizzerias, spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino now costs €15.90, while pasta with cream of mushrooms and prawns can easily reach €27.90. In more upscale restaurants, you'll find micro-portions, daring combinations, eight dishes on the menu, and you'll end up paying €200 per person. At Primitivo, it's the exact opposite: outstanding quality, honest portions, a well-thought-out and sufficiently broad menu, and prices that are very fair for what's on offer. Here, substance counts over show. The service isn't fake-friendly, but competent, attentive, and genuinely helpful, even when it comes to the over 100 wines. For me, this is a rare treasure in today's gastronomy: authentic Italian cuisine of the highest quality, without being pretentious.

One Friday evening, we visited the "Primitivo" restaurant in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort for the first time. We had reserved a table in advance, which in retrospect was a good idea. It became quite full as the evening progressed. The restaurant is comfortably furnished and relatively small, and the service was friendly. Before we ordered our appetizers, we were served delicious bread with excellent olive oil. The appetizers were the three bruschettas, which tasted rather okay. The eggplant casserole, on the other hand, was delicious. For our main courses, we chose the Rigatoni Salcicia, which was very tasty. The second main course was the veal lasagna, which tasted almost perfect. Of course, dessert was a must, and we opted for the warm chocolate tart. Unfortunately, it was rather bland in terms of taste. We had a lovely evening. We can recommend the truly delicious wines. Otherwise, the prices here are rather high.

I've rarely experienced such a combination of wine expertise and honest cuisine. Over 120 top-quality wines, along with a menu that, compared to other fine restaurants, is extensive and reasonably priced, considering the quality and portions. The chef personally comes to the table and explains the daily specials based on the fresh produce: porcini mushrooms, chanterelles, Galloway fillet, Breton lobster, Sicilian arancino, Balfego tuna, swordfish, ventresca. The place was packed, yet the service remained calm, friendly, and precise. The flavors were clear, the products were first-class, and the portion sizes were fair. Hard to beat—I'm truly speechless.

Very poor experience here. Booked it for a 70th birthday, which we made clear to the restaurant twice beforehand. Arrived and there was no table ready and no sign of any table being free anytime soon. We were impatiently told to wait by staff who didn’t seem to have basic manners. We were then ignored for 15 minutes, aside from when waiters rudely barged past us as we stood waiting for a table. Delay in a table being ready is a pretty easy mistake to resolve but it was dealt with terribly by the ignorant staff. We left after 20 minutes of waiting and weren’t contacted afterwards for an apology. We went to Salt. around the corner instead where we had a great dinner in a much better environment. A blessing in disguise.

It's better not to trust reservations. We had made a reservation weeks in advance for a very special occasion and confirmed it again for a later date. Upon arrival, we received a rude welcome – the reservation had been forgotten, and our table was given to other guests – we were (literally) left out in the cold. A few days later, we received only a text message apologizing that the staff had made many mistakes that evening. We were really looking forward to the evening, but the forgotten reservation for a special occasion and the unfriendly service were a real disappointment. It's better to make a reservation elsewhere if it's important.

My Evening at Primitivo – Notes from the Guestbook 7:05 PM Arrival in Düsseldorf Pempelfort, warm welcome at the wine bar, water and fresh bread immediately on the table. 7:20 PM Starter: Balfegó tuna, cleanly sliced, two sauces, plenty of freshness, nothing loud, everything precise. 7:45 ​​PM Intermediate course: Risotto with chanterelle mushrooms, creamy with a bite, nutty flavors, small crumbs for texture. 8:15 PM Main course: Beef fillet with porcini, cooked to perfection, clear jus, side dishes reduced and sensible. 8:30 PM Wine: The advice is listening and hits the mark, first a glass of Vermentino, then a Primitivo from Puglia. 9:00 PM Dessert: Lemon, a light and clean finish. Three of us went to this restaurant last night on Instagram's recommendation. The ambiance was nice. The place is really busy. The food was good, but more expensive than usual. After our first drink, no one asked if we wanted another, even though I signaled to come back. So, I'm not impressed with the service, especially not at these high prices. A Sprite with a starter and dessert is simply not enough. I was really thirsty. When I finally asked if the €30 was for the risotto, because there were several different kitchens and we were a bit surprised by the price, the waiter kind of yelled at us and treated us condescendingly because we didn't know how expensive porcini mushrooms are. Sorry guys, that's not okay. If you're standing in my pharmacy, I won't laugh at you if you don't know anything about medicines. So, toning down the arrogance a bit would be appropriate. Not everyone was unfriendly and arrogant, but one of them was just unacceptable. And no one asked if we wanted another drink. All in all, given the huge selection of restaurants in Düsseldorf, we wouldn't go there again.

The pasta was excellent, al dente, but there was a bit too much tomato sauce for my taste. Top quality at fair prices. A must in Düsseldorf I was recently at Primitivo and absolutely loved it. Here you can get Italian cuisine at the highest level. Fresh, creative and with great attention to detail. For a starter I had the Parmigiana, which was just perfect: wonderfully layered eggplant, an intense tomato sauce and melted cheese in just the right balance. A real taste experience! My main course, the taglierini with truffle, was equally impressive. The homemade pasta was paper-thin, perfectly al dente, and the fresh truffle took the dish into a whole other league. You rarely get something like this in Düsseldorf! There is also a great selection of wines and service that is not only friendly but also really competent. But what surprised me most: the prices! I would definitely have expected more for this quality - here you get real fine dining at a price that is more than fair. In many other restaurants you pay significantly more for far less quality. Clear recommendation for anyone who appreciates great food without exorbitant prices.

An evening at Primitivo is an experience that will be remembered! The food is of the highest quality. The Simmental fillet with artichokes was an absolute highlight, and the service is first class. Chef Giampiero and Nicolo are personally involved with the guests and work with a lot of heart and dedication. What is particularly remarkable is the lively and efficient way of working of the entire team: here you don't get the feeling that you are paying for a large number of service staff without a clear work rhythm. Instead, we focus on the essentials, which makes the experience wonderfully natural and yet incredibly professional. Compared to other upscale restaurants, which often have a small, expensive menu and tiny portions, you can see how things are different here. Elsewhere you often have a larger number of staff, but there is no real structure or rhythm to be seen, something that is then reflected in excessive prices and questionable calculations. In the Primitivo, however, everything is right: quality, price-performance and the passion with which we work here. This restaurant is a real pearl.
