Prickings-Hof Restaurant in Haltern am See

The restaurant is great. It tastes very tasty and the portions are large. The ambience is great.

Today we went to the Prickingshof with the family. As a child we used to go there a lot and I wanted to share my childhood memories with my children. It used to be full of people, several tour buses stopped there, just a great place for everyone. I wanted to see for myself and couldn't believe the many bad reviews on the internet. I'm not a picky person at all and I can overlook a lot of things. The entire farm is very old, everything is still as it used to be, many buildings are empty and locked, the play equipment squeaks and is partly broken or non-functional and just sits there, nothing is being repaired or dismantled. There's not really anything to look at in the yard, it's just a yawning emptiness. The long slide is as fun as before, but you need a smooth jacket under your butt so that you can slide properly, otherwise the slide is too dull. All play equipment is badly affected by the weather and has rust everywhere. Many children's attractions (i.e. driving remote-controlled boats, etc.) no longer exist. The outdoor areas have been swept, hedges have been trimmed back nicely, trash cans have been emptied👍. Unfortunately the farm has a bee problem, many areas are closed off to children and there are lots of dead bees lying around, not nice for children. Now to the gastronomic part of my review. The food is at the level of a chip shop and is not good at all. Price/performance is no longer right here. The portions are huge, quantity over quality. We ordered 5 schnitzel dishes (including 1 children's schnitzel) and 5 cokes, total price 108€. The fries tasted like old fat and weren't salted, the fried potatoes were good, the schnitzels also tasted like old fat and almost half of all the schnitzels were inedible because they were very thick and full of fat and tendons, so you couldn't cut through them with a knife . Really disgusting so we didn't finish it the first time. The cola was the best part of the whole restaurant visit. It's a real shame about the money, as we could have had a really good meal somewhere else with our children. Conclusion: Farmer Ewald's legacy is extremely run down, unfortunately there is nothing left of the Prickingshof's former glory, which is really a shame. It takes a huge investment of manpower, money, new ideas and a proper overall concept to bring this farm back into shape!!!

Here you can sit down and have a good meal. We have eaten there several times. My favorite is the Bockwurst with potato salad. Jägerschnitzel, today, was also very tasty. The portions are sooooo big that you can easily share a portion. Service, friendly and quick to serve. We are happy to recommend it and will definitely come back.

Who doesn't know Farmer Ewald? I still think it's great, it was 40 years ago and it still is now!

Waiting hours for hours. A waiter who is completely disorganized. Speaks to customers with absolute disrespect. I've noticed the gentleman before.

Nach langer Zeit Mal wieder bei Bauer Ewald Schnitzel gegessen. Letztes Mal als ich da war, war er ich ein kleines Kind und es sieht noch genauso schön " alt " aus wie damals.

After almost two years we were there again for schnitzel. But unfortunately we were disappointed. Of course, the food came very quickly and the service was impeccable. However, they were quickly baked schnitzel blanks in the deep fryer with a very firm breading, it wasn't juicy at all, it was more of a canteen quality. We were also dismayed by the price; at 21 euros, it is now significantly too high. Since the food was what drew us here, we won't be coming back for it now. It's a shame, but this change in concept backfired, I think.

The food is always good at Cracker Barrel, and the servers are kind and efficient. I just want to give an alert regarding the pricing. I am on a carnivore diet so I didn't want the bread or the potatoes. I decided to build my own breakfast, thinking it would save me charges for the extras. Turns out the basic selections -- 2 eggs, regular bacon and then an added hamburger patty added up to $21. Wow! The breakfast was good but at that price I could have chosen the steak and eggs for $18. When I tried to ask for clarification about the bill, I was even more confused. So, once again, the food was good but the price was a bit of a surprise.

What a huge yard... Everything is big here… Designed to host many people. The portions are huge. I had currywurst and fries, my wife had schnitzel with hunter's sauce and bread. The portion of curry sausage would have been enough for both of us. You don't know that beforehand. There is stuff everywhere because hardly anyone can do it. If we come again we will order a dish and a robber plate. Tastes good, price performance met. Simple but mega.

We went there 4 times because the food was great. Price/performance was ok. We took the leftovers with us. Aluminum foil was ready. Staff friendly and competent

It wasn't the food that fundamentally failed. But after a family-friendly farm was recommended to us and the disappointment was huge, the food at least lifted our mood slightly. The children's play area is very outdated. There are squeaks in every corner and you wonder whether everything is still so stable. Most of the interesting devices cost between 50 cents and 1€. So have change with you so that the children have something to play with. The zoo described is currently not open to the public. The length of stay was plus minus 10 minutes in the “playground” otherwise the waiting and eating time in the restaurant. Unfortunately it's not enough for more than that. Neither child nor adult was satisfied.

It's been a while since I was last here, but definitely not the last time. It might be helpful if the door to the exit with the walker or wheelchair ramp was an automatic door.

If you love hearty, delicious German home cooking, you simply have to stop by here. A feeling like Grandma's at the table is guaranteed 😍. Very cozy, family atmosphere and the portions are often enough for a second meal at home. (Packaging material is always available). Thank you for the always nice and always friendly service and entertainment. We like to come back again and again. 🍀

Service is terrible. There were two of us. A main course came after 5 minutes, drinks came later. The second main course came 10 minutes later, when my companion had already finished eating. It doesn't work at all!!! 🤮 Food was so-so. Much smaller than 10 years ago. The pork knuckle was very tender but not crispy (even though the menu says “boiled AND baked”), the pork medallions without any taste or seasoning. Salt and pepper are not available at the table, they are hidden on the chest on the way to the toilets. With a lot of salt it worked. The quantities were also pretty meager, something I didn't remember from before. We finished the dishes without any problems, despite having coffee and cake beforehand. No problem, you still have to pack up the leftovers. That's really weak for the hefty prices of 20-30 euros per main course.

Portions are becoming smaller and more expensive. There are no more coffee trips there. The facilities are very old. The turns are also quite yellow. The staff is very friendly.

Good and inexpensive food Super

So you can eat like a prince here and really cheaply, what you can't manage is packed away. For both menus just under 40.00 euros.

As always, it was very nice there. Food tasty and plentiful. The service lady was very friendly and flexible. Even prepared our dinner for my son and me shortly before the end of the day. Rustic, cozy atmosphere. Always worth a trip.

Unfortunately, there is only a small hint of the old shine left. Everything is closed except for the restaurants. In the “amusement park” we were able to look at the (poor) few animals for free. The food is also mass-produced (probably necessary given the size of the halls) and nothing is freshly made. The farm can probably only live from the special major events.

The portions are huge and there is a sale of sausages and meat products, highly recommended for grilling.

The meatballs from the counter are highly recommended here, real truck driver frika. I like to go here just for this. But the restaurant is also recommended, even if the portions are no longer as generous as they once were. It's nice that the restaurant still has the charm that I remember from my youth.

The Prickings Hof used to be an experience for the whole family; - there isn't much left of it today! Nevertheless we will come back...

It's not worth coming down opposite for an early visit

I ordered a 🍔 burger for 15.60 euros. The meat was absolutely delicious 😋 but I got the rest without sauce, without bacon and without salad without onions... And the fries 🍟 were about 20 pieces and I was totally disappointed 😞 I would have preferred schnitzel like mine Darling, there was a lot on the plate that I came with food, so next time I'll know. The waitress was really sweet and nice and wanted to pay for a new meal out of her pocket, which I didn't want...

Since 1977 at least 10 times a year. On average more like 15 times. Always full, nothing to complain about. When you sit down, you immediately have a lot of memories. Service is great even if the hut is on fire. Keep it up! We'll see each other again soon. I'm hungry again 👍👍👍.

Everything looks run down. Everything is closed, only the restaurant and the service counter are open. The meal costs around €20.00. Restaurant is well attended. The mare is also recommended.

Just like it was 30 years ago. Big schnitzels, huge sausages and a feeling like childhood. Our children, 16 years old, were wide-eyed when the food came. A rustic restaurant, just right after a hike.

Food and service are still impeccable. Not a star cuisine, but a basic honest schnitzel that is enough for two. Unfortunately the ambience is very outdated, but they are working on it.

The Prickingshof was a popular excursion destination in the 70s that attracted many coaches with guests. But those days are long gone. The “attractions” from back then are getting really old. The restaurant, which offers burgers, steaks, currywurst and roasts, but especially schnitzel, is still worth a visit. The portions were and are so big that hardly anyone can eat them. Therefore, aluminum foil is ready to wrap up and take with you. The schnitzels were really good and very plentiful for a moderate price. The service was super fast and friendly. The ambience remains in the 70s, but the toilets have to be highlighted. They are very clean and up to date. We will come back for dinner.

Very good bourgeois cuisine! Large portion for reasonable prices. The restaurant itself is a little old, but still fits in with the whole courtyard around it. Would definitely come back!

Sehr nettes und aufmerksames Personal

Ja, es muss was getan werden. Leider leiden die Verantwortlichen, wie viele andere auch, unter dem "Fachkräftemangel". Wir fühlen uns in dem urigen Ambiente wohl. Die Mitarbeiter im Service sind sehr freundlich - besonders den Kindern gegenüber - und sehr entgegenkommend.

Essen wie immer sehr gut! Uns haben nur die lebenden Tiere gefehlt, die man früher besichtigen konnte!

Reichlich, lecker, gutes Preisleistungsverhältnis. Leider so gut wie keine vegetarischen Speisen, so dass ich nicht mit der ganzen Familie herkommen kann

Eine gemütliche Hofgaststätte mit Erlebnisgastronomie. Unvorstellbar, dass bei diesen Portionen niemand satt wird. Die angeschlossenen Infobereiche machen auch für Kinder den Besuch perfekt. Großstadtkinder bekommen komplett neue Eindrücke. Wir waren schon mehrfach da und wurden nie enttäuscht.

Gemütliches Ambiente. Super tolle Mitarbeiter. Essen sehr reichlich und richtig lecker. Wer Hausmannskost mag wird es dort richtig klasse finden.

Könnte man deutlich mehr draus machen....die Zeiten der Massen im Fressgelage sind vorbei....das Konzept muss schleunigst überarbeitet werden!

Leider, bis auf die Toiletten, sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Die Portionen sind riesige Fleischmengen, wo man schon vom Hinschauen satt ist. Wenn man ein grosses Schnitzel bestellt, bekommt man 3!!! Irgendwie sehr masslos und für mich nicht mehr zeitgemäss. Aber anscheinend gibt es viele Leute, die dies immer noch lieben. Die Qualität des Essens ist bodenständig gut. Wie das bei dem Preis/Leistungsverhältnis funktioniert, scheint mir fragwürdig. Die Bedienung war zügig und mit flotten Sprüchen auf den Lippen.

Hat den Flair der 70'er und 80'er nich verloren. Die Pommes zu hart (und wurde aber sofort Ersatz angeboten) und das Schnitzel zu Tode gebraten (oder frittiert?). Die Menge immer noch wie früher und der Preis für die Portion angemessen. Was wirklich herausgestochen hat war die Kellnerin, die sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend war👍

Diesmal war es etwas auf den Tisch warten, es war aber nicht so schlimm. Der Service war sehr freundlich und schnell. Das Essen wie immer gut.

Am Sonntag den 15.Okt.2023 besuchten wir den Prickingshof. Wiedereinmal die Rinderrouladen bestellt. Beim Einschneiden der Rouladen mit dem einfachen Besteckmesser spaltete sich diese und im Mund zerging das Fleisch (sehr gut). Auch die Soße sehr geschmackvoll. Der Rotkohl dazu ebenfalls sehr geschmackvoll. Ich war sehr zufrieden mit den drei Rinderrouladen, wohl sehr klein. Der Preis von 18,70 € ist natürlich dank Bundesregierung einwenig heftig. Wiedereinkehr ist beschlossen!
