Postkeller in Neumünster

A lovely old traditional café-restaurant (in a basement) with good, affordable traditional food, a great atmosphere, and friendly service. Highly recommended, even though we stumbled upon it by chance. Peter de Kuijer and Ida de Waal from the Netherlands.

The schnitzel was way too thick, and the sauce was from a packet. It was one of the worst schnitzels I've ever eaten. Any canteen can do better, and it won't cost €20.

The Postkeller has great staff, no matter when you arrive, and the food is simply superb. Especially the coachman's schnitzel and the crouqes. What am I saying? Everything tastes just as good.

The food here is large and delicious, but unfortunately, you can smell the decades of heavy smoking. I helped with that myself... Still a very iconic pub, though!

When ordering food, it's especially important to ask for "young potatoes," otherwise you'll get unpeeled jacket potatoes 🥳 The asparagus was tasty, but firm to the bite, and the hollandaise sauce didn't seem to be homemade. The schnitzel was recommended. The asparagus cream soup was excellent. 👌 It's a shame that the annoyance with the "young" potatoes - despite the warning - was left to the customer...

We had dinner today at the Postkeller Restaurant in Neumünster. The ambiance is pleasantly down-to-earth, the prices are absolutely reasonable for the quality offered, and the food was of good quality. One criticism, however, that mars the overall impression: While my wife had already ordered her dish, I needed a moment to make my decision. After I finally ordered, my wife's meal was served promptly – mine, however, came a few minutes later. Such delayed serving within the same table is a clear no-go from a gastronomic perspective and should be avoided in a professional establishment. Overall, the Postkeller is a good restaurant with room for improvement in service coordination.

We waited 30 minutes outside before anyone even noticed us... The waitress (Christin) was incredibly unfriendly. After 15 minutes, our drinks finally arrived, and we waited another 20 minutes for the food. We asked for salt when ordering, but we waited in vain. Even after two reminders, nothing happened. We sat there for 1.5 hours. :-( Overall, a disaster. By the way, all the tables were empty.

The service was super friendly. The food was hot and delicious. Highly recommended.

The ambiance is rustic. You have to like it. The men's restroom is not for corpulent or tall men. It's very narrow and low. But it's clean. The food is delicious and homemade.

Lunch pork medallion, it was raw!!! I told the owner, she took it with her and said it was fried again, that was a lie, it wasn't always raw!!! Thanks for the ashes, never again, it's better to gossip, you won't be lied to!!!!!!!!!!

I am very disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. The schnitzel had nothing to do with a Viennese schnitzel - but that's how it is presented. I didn't expect to find sweet corn in a traditional German salad. My schnitzel was served burnt. The good thing is that Bavarian beer is offered, which is of high quality, and the service staff is extremely friendly

Cult pub in Neumünster. Small and winding. You shouldn't sit too close to the men's toilet. But the service was really great, attentive and friendly. The food was great. This helps with some toilet smells.

Nice shop in the basement downstairs with friendly and alert service 😌. At the counter there is a nice young lady who has a nice smile every now and then. Overall, a great evening with good and generously filled plates. Great again. 👍

wir treffen uns seit Jahren immer mal wieder im Postkeller, auch wenn man immer mal wieder abstrichen mit dem Essen machen musste, aber unserer letzter Besuch war auch unser letzter ...wir hatten uns eine Pizza geteilt und dazu Sekt auf Eis bestellt, die Pizza war ganz okay nur Sekt auf Eis war mal ein Wasserglas voll Eiswürfel mit Sekt, nun war es 0,2 ml Sekt mit Eis dazu muss man sagen, das das Glas unter dem angegeben Strich von 0,2 ml lag, ich sprach die Kellnerin darauf an, wozu sie sagte das machen wir immer so...als ich das nicht in Ordnung fand, hat sie die Gläser widerwillig auf 0,2 ml gefüllt...dann als wir bezahlen wollten war eine Differenz des Zahnbetrages - in der Karte war der Sekt auf Eis für 4,50 € angegeben und bezahlen sollten wir 6,50 € !!!! als wir die Kellnerin darauf ansprachen, sagte diese was in der Speise/Getränkekarte stehe hat nichts zu bedeuten, was in ihrem Smartphone stehe ist der richtige Betrag!!- nur durch eine andere Gästin haben wir unseren Differenzbetrag erstattet bekommen...leider hat dies für uns und unsere Freunde gereicht dort im Postkeller einzukehren....

One of the oldest and best in Neumünster....

Unfortunately, it's just bad. We had specifically booked a table for eight people, as it's always a bit difficult to sit together with so many people in December. When we got there, our table was unfortunately taken and we had to sit on hard, uncomfortable chairs in the middle of the room. This meant that four people couldn't eat together, as only four were actually sitting at the table. The excuse given to us was that a "group of women" had "stole" our table and there was no other solution. Unfortunately, it was beyond amateurish. Unfortunately, I haven't been recommending it for some time. I can't understand the relatively good reviews at all.

Wir haben einen Tisch für acht Personen reserviert. Als wir am Postkeller angekommen sind war kein Tisch frei. Es wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass der Tisch fälschlicherweise vergeben wurde. Wir mussten also mit vier Personen an einem Vierertisch sitzen. Kein Essen oder Ähnliches möglich. Absolut nicht mehr empfehlenswert.

Very rustic place with history, as well as funny and really nice service with very good home cooking with huge portions! Unfortunately, there is hardly any such thing anymore that you can get normal, good German food without a lot of frills or these endless things. Keep it up, thank you for being here...!

Great pub in the centre of Neumünster, the only proper pub in the town, and a very good one at that. Very friendly servers and a good atmosphere. All locals in the pub and we felt very welcome as non-german speakers

Food delicious, but prices have risen quite a bit. Pizza and casseroles suffocate under the thick layer of cheese. Service is always nice and friendly 👍.

I have never eaten such a bad beet mousse, lukewarm and with undercooked carrot slices. It was only offered to heat the must again. Like that cooks down the carrots. Just bad, when fully calculated. Find a new chef

Seedy, but classic watering hole

An aging place with charm. I had breakfast there for the first time on Saturday and it was very nice. Fresh rolls from the bakery next door, cold cuts, cheese, salads and sweets were all there. Full of coffee and great service

We came here for the second time, received friendly service and ate and drank well at moderate prices. We were able to sit comfortably, most recently outside in good weather. A tiny criticism: I would have liked the farmer's breakfast with a little less salt. We'd love to come back.

We sampled the more Teutonic part of the menu, with bratwurst and schnitzel, which were both tasty and well-sized. Fries were perfect, gold and crispy. A hint of paprika powder was sprinkled on top, didn't feel the dish really needed that. Service was prompt and helpful, atmosphere also great, with tables outside on the border of the city's main square (slight drawback was the fire fighters at work at a building a few doors down that burnt down a couple of days prior - nothing the restaurant could help, of course).

The Schnitzel was really nice over here. We were sitting inside on a warm day. A lot of smokers were sitting outside. But you can sit cozy both inside and outside. I would recommend eating a schnitzel here!

Today, on this almost tropical evening, the four of us spent a really great evening in the outdoor area of ​​the Postkeller. No traffic noise because large areas are closed, 4 different delicious meals and super friendly support from Alex. Highly recommended.

I can't give any stars, Long waiting time. Price performance poor. Turkey meat was like leather Fried potatoes only tasted like fat. When asked if it was tasty, I pointed to my plate and had to say no. I was offered a drink on the house which I declined.

What happened to Possi??? We were there for dinner, around lunchtime. There wasn't much going on and after about an hour after ordering I asked where our food was...irritated looks from the young employee...Oh, I didn't put the receipt in the kitchen! The food would be ready in 10 minutes... The food came and I specifically asked for the hot sauce! And? What was on it? Hot sauce of course! There was a half-hearted apology. No drink on the house or anything like that... Oh dear, what happened to you... how nice was it with Markus and Co when the delicious dishes came to the table with humor and charm??!! Now it's just expensive...

😡…… Sorry, that was nothing!!! “Was in the Postkeller today” and wanted to eat delicious asparagus with schnitzel. (compare my plate with schnitzel and the one with croquettes) well, found a mistake??? 👀 That's right, my asparagus was gray, woody, the ends weren't cut off, very, very firm. Should have still cooked. And you have to compare the quantity. Sorry, and then a small schnitzel for 21 euros. ….. doesn’t work at all. I almost hit my head in the men's toilet, so low, narrow and small. Like in a dollhouse. In general: Landlady alone, overwhelmed with few guests. Restaurant and pub don't go together. You should concentrate on one thing (probably a drinking bar) and do it right!!! - THANK YOU- (for nothing)

The food was ok, portions for the sides are big. Sufficient for a meal, small dining place but food is pretty ok.

Neumünster's oldest pub... I think you have to be there to experience this rustic atmosphere.. I like being there.

If you want delicious food and an authentic restaurant, this is the right place for you. We come from further away and love places like this. We ate schnitzel and it was one of the best. The service last night was also totally authentic and very friendly. Huge praise to the store.

Always a good pub for young and old

The food was very good, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was somehow funny!

The breakfast was good, but the price wasn't justified. 2 fried eggs on 2 toasts with fried bacon, 12.90 euros...really to mutch.

An extraordinarily delicious steak. Ordered medium rare and received perfect medium rare. That is rare. Very friendly service. And you feel more like you're in the living room than in the restaurant. I really like it. But anyone expecting a chic, formal restaurant should look elsewhere.

February 19, 2024 In my subjective opinion, lunch has unfortunately become very expensive over the last year. Far beyond inflation and the VAT increase. The waiter was really very friendly! You don't get that often anymore! The atmosphere is as cozy as ever!

Quaint pub with really nice service and delicious food

4 years ago it was great. But now.... Pure disappointment.... Has worn off badly. The service was very friendly, you can't complain. The forgotten butter was quickly added. But...!!! The "big" breakfast was 12/13, - (it said two light rolls, we didn't get 2, just 1 light one and an old dark one, which we hadn't ordered, as it costs extra) The extra cocoa cost 3.80 (supposedly with cream, mine was without) well that brings us to a staggering 17.00 and we also had an extra boiled egg. Now guess how expensive it was? Correct total 20,-!!!!! 3,- for a pre-cooked and cold egg!!!! I found USURY!!! Conclusion... we won't go there anymore. There's not even a glass of OJ with it. Am disappointed. We really enjoyed being there back then.

The food (kale and roast beef) was really really tasty! 👍🏼 But there is also something to complain about: 1. Even if the shop has been around for a long time and is old, the condition, cleanliness and the smell of nicotine are not nice. Something can be done there. 2. There was basically nothing going on, when we came in we were alone, but the special request for extra crispy fried potatoes was not implemented. Good food is of course the most important thing, that's why it's 5 stars, but cleanliness, ambience and service also have to be right. Oh and one more thing: Maybe watch Rosin's Restaurant on TV. Personally, I don't think the huge, wildly mixed menu works! For me, Greek, Italian dishes, La Flute, etc. don't fit in an old North German shop from 1877!!

Heute gab es beim Mittagstisch Grünkohl. Einfach lecker und eine Sünde wert.

Essen und den Service werde ich nicht bewerten dafür war ich zu selten da. Die Atmosphäre ist schön, im Sommer und Winter gut besucht. Leider stehen die Tische draußen direkt vor der Straße. Etwas klein und eng im Laden ist aber kein großes Problem, besonders das Männer WC ist sehr klein und eng, bei den Frauen weiß ich nicht)) daher leider nur 4 Punkte zum Ambiente. Ansonsten finde ich den Laden echt gut.
