Pizzeria Don Marcello in Gelsenkirchen

Worst pizza I've ever eaten, it felt like all the pizzas were burnt.

We've ordered from there several times. We've always been satisfied. But then we got a cold pizza and half of our order was missing. Of course, the store isn't accessible, so we're stuck with it. Never again!

I ordered a pizza and pasta there. The salad was forgotten - it can happen sometimes, it's okay. They served some kind of vinegar sauce with the pizza rolls, even though I specifically asked for herb butter. On top of that, the pizza wasn't cooked all the way through and the pasta with tomato cream sauce wasn't good at all. I'm not a fussy person, but the food was unfortunately not good at all. To make matters worse, we tried calling there several times, but nobody answered. I didn't want to write a bad review, because everyone can have a bad day, but ignoring the calls is really sad. I wouldn't have wanted the salad etc. in the first place, I just said what wasn't so good, nothing more. Hopefully I was the only one unlucky enough to have this bad experience.

My order via Lieferando was initially accepted and then canceled shortly before the delivery date. Thanks for nothing.

First of all, we weren't able to order via Lieferando or Wolt because the apps indicated the business wasn't accepting orders at the time. The owner later said they weren't open yet, which I think is nonsense, since other restaurants explicitly offer pre-ordering at those times, which we were planning to do anyway. We wanted to pre-order on Wednesday for a small party (12 people) on Friday. So we drove there and ordered on the spot. We chose two party platters for 8 people. This includes one pizza tray each (50x50cm, important note!), one pasta tray each, one salad tray each, 12 pizza rolls, and 1 liter of beverage each. Each half of the pizzas had different toppings: 1/2 tuna and onions, "Don Marcello" (tuna, ham, spicy salami), "Caprese" (buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, basil), and "Con Pollo" (chicken breast, cherry tomatoes). For pasta, we wanted Penne e Gamberi (cherry tomatoes, garlic, parsley, shrimp, tomato cream sauce, and then Tortellini Panna e Presciutto with cream sauce and ham). We were told that tortellini was currently unavailable (!?) and that they only had penne or spaghetti, but that the dish could be made with penne instead of tortellini. Though grudgingly, we agreed. My gut feeling should have told me to turn around right then and there, but I honestly didn't feel like looking for alternatives, as we've always been satisfied with Don Marcello and have been customers there for ages. We were already regulars at the previous restaurant, Don Camillo. We ordered for 6 p.m. and were told not to be upset if it arrived 10 minutes earlier or later. I was still ripe with "the hottest thing." The latter, in particular, was completely ignored, but more on that later. The positives First of all, the pizza was good as always, even though it had regular mozzarella instead of buffalo. But that's fine. The pasta was also basically OK, and the salad was absolutely top-notch. The pizza rolls, as always, not rolls but long diamond-shaped rolls, were fresh and excellent. BUT! Both the pizza and the pasta were lukewarm. Which was very annoying and embarrassing. I had to transfer the pasta and reheat it in pots, and the pizzas (luckily our oven can reach 350°C and has a rapid heat-up function) also had to be baked. Very, very annoying, but hardly surprising. Because when there was still no sign of the driver at 6:30 p.m., I called Don Marcello and was told the driver was on his way and had other routes. Sorry, but you should have your logistics under control, and no matter how long you're on the road, you MUST ensure that the food arrives hot. If I order food for €120, I EXPECT that. This one is perfect. But if you use those ancient Styrofoam boxes from the 1990s, it's not going to work. Then the pizza trays weren't 50x50cm trays, but round pizzas, about 50cm each. So, mathematically, we were cheated out of about 22% of the pizza. Or to put it another way, we were missing two 50x10cm pizzas. That's equivalent to two regular 26cm pizzas! That's brazen and simply cheating. And the food was accordingly scarce. It's incredibly embarrassing when guests don't dare take the last piece. Then the pasta. In one dish, I counted 4(!!!) shrimp, and in the other, ONE very roughly cut slice of ham. Absolutely ridiculous. Since I had to cook everything again anyway, I took some prawns out of the freezer and added them, along with a few slices of smoked pork that we still had in the other dish. All in all, a total rip-off A flop, and Don Marcello is dead for us. Although I think they're on the verge of bankruptcy anyway. Apparently, the entire staff consists of the "boss" and a driver, and the fact that they can't deliver almost all types of pasta and many other dishes speaks volumes. It's a real shame and sad what has become of what was once the best pizza place.

I ordered and paid from here and I did not receive my order. I do not recommend you to order anything from here. The store is really bad.

I've never ordered such bad food. I'm speechless. What happened?! It used to be unbeatable, now it's inedible! Where do the good reviews come from, through connections?! I can't explain how anyone can seriously serve food like this. The taste and appearance are nothing like they used to be!

I had placed an order, and up until then, everything had been fine. After waiting half an hour, I wanted to see how long it would take (53 minutes was previously displayed, which was perfectly fine). Then I noticed that my order had simply been canceled. I called to ask why. I was told he would have to ask the manager, and two minutes later the phone hung up, and no one responded to my next call. I honestly don't understand, and it's pretty unprofessional. Everything was normal; there was no rudeness or anything like that, which is why I can't explain it.

Always fast. Always delicious. Always friendly. Dear delivery drivers. Best pizza in Gelsenkirchen. Ordered again today. And again delicious. And the salad with the pizza was crisp and fresh. The pizza rolls are triangles. That way you can get the rest of the herb butter in the pot. Good idea. Keep it up. Just ordered again and got it delivered. The good rating just stays the same. Didn't get lasagna. Not again! Evasive recommendation, spicy spaghetti, much too spicy, not just for me. Inedible! Service was quite okay. Never again for me. Ambiance. Unfortunately it's far too small, you can do more with it. Before Don Camillo(unbeatable).

I went to eat there on the recommendation of a friend. Can really only recommend it!! Great pizzas. You just can't complain about anything. Eat there yourself and see for yourself!

I ordered there for the first time and the delivery was almost 30 minutes late. Unfortunately there was no brokoli so I only got a normal salami pizza BUT they apologized several times and the difference amount was paid out to me and I received a 1 liter cola for it Despite everything, the inconvenience was worth the wait, the food is super tasty, very good pizza, the taste cannot be compared to the rubbish that is available in the area, it is highly recommended, I will order again, really very tasty

Since the change of ownership, our number 1 address when it comes to pizza. The dough is super delicious and the topping is great. We always enjoy eating from here.

I drove past and spontaneously went to the pizzeria. And I got a pizza and what felt like pizza rolls. It tasted so good and that's why I wanted to report it because it's a shame if you missed it. Besides that I got 8 pieces and I could choose different ones if I wanted. Then have half tuna onion. And half ham was a great idea. Lg

Very good food and the staff are super friendly. I've never had such good pizza dough. Even though the store is so small, there are great options to eat on site. I can only recommend everyone to visit this restaurant.

Unfortunately not tasty. Based on the pictures and reviews, we were promised more. Pizza was only lukewarm when it was delivered and quite dry (hardly any tomato sauce) Unfortunately it was the first and last time we ordered pizza there.

It's actually a delivery service...but there are 2 bar tables in the room...very tasty, everything freshly prepared 👍🏻

The best pizza in Gelsenkirchen 🤤

I found the small pizzeria Don Marcello by chance and actually without a navigation system (Yeah!). Located in the middle of the Bronx in Gelsenkirchen - that's what the Tossehof was called at the time - you suddenly find yourself in front of a rather poorly lit and completely inconspicuous shop. If you're expecting a typical Italian ambience and fine knick-knacks, you're in good hands here... well, still. My first impression: Oh God...! As soon as I entered the small shop, which doesn't fit more than two people anyway, which would have saved us from having to have distance signs on the door during Pann' de Wed times, I was greeted warmly. My second impression - "Hey, nice guys...!" I was kindly advised that preparing a “fresh pizza” could take a while. Who would have thought?? (Laughs). So I was there live when my pizza was being topped and to my amazement the toppings seemed to never end. Suddenly someone came in from outside. At first I thought it was a customer, but - none. "Do you have 2 minutes?" it was said behind the counter - "I need some fresh mushrooms." Someone comes in from outside, walks into the kitchen uninvited and... marches straight to the hand basin and washes their hands. Put on the apron and off we went. At first I was really amazed. Which is almost boring and completely normal for a 4 star chef, especially since everyone there would expect it, here - in the middle of deepest Gelsenkirchen, 2 - 3 people show you how "good cuisine" works. Hygiene, cleanliness, service & friendliness are top! Anyone who has been here returns not least because the quality is right here. Plenty of toppings on a super delicious pizza and finally a balance between your wallet and what you take home with you! My tip... The focaccia is awesome! But beware! The normal portion feeds 2 people straight away. My last impression: Top performance in terms of taste and hygiene, which unfortunately you sometimes look for in vain even in well-known restaurants. It was certainly not my last visit to Don Marcello. I give this 5 stars, which are more than deserved in every area.

We ordered online and can't say anything about the restaurant. About the food: the pizza is really Italian. You could smell fresh ingredients. I always smell it first. The pizza dough was exactly as it should be. I even ate the edge. I usually always leave that left over. If you want to eat really good pizza, you should order here or go there straight away. (I will definitely eat there again). The salad was fresh and crunchy. The dressing is also really tasty 🤤. The pasta was for my daughter and she found it too garlicky. I tried it and found it okay. Pasta al dente 👍 I'm looking forward to getting to know the Italians.

Leckere Pizza – Bedienung mit ausgeprägter, natürlicher Freundlichkeit - entspannte Arbeitsatmosphäre vor Ort. Direkte persönliche Ansprache. Wartezeit vor Ort zwischen 7 und 15 Minuten je nach Nachfrage. Beim dritten Besuch kannte man bereits meinen Bestellwunsch samt extra Oregano. Reichhaltiger und geschmackvoller Belag und sehr guter knuspriger, aber keineswegs harter oder trockener Pizzateig. – Sehr zu empfehlen!

Wirklich die leckerste Pizza in Gelsenkirchen, gehen jedesmal dorthin. Noch nie enttäuscht worden 👍🏼👍🏼

Nach langer Zeit mal wieder Pizza. Als die Pizza eröffnet wurde hat er selbst die Pizzen gemacht immer sehr lecker…… zwischen drin waren ich drück es mal so aus wirklich komische Angestellte am Werk. Man hat am Telefon nix verstanden und die Pizzen waren naja…. Heute am 27.10.222 dachte ich mir auf dem Heim weg, ich habe Lust auf Pizza Probier es mal wieder. Und ich muss sagen vom Telefonat und dem vorbestellen bis hin zur Pizza alles traumhaft! Macht weiter so. Danke

Vorhin zum ersten Mal ne Pizza bestellt. Mir fehlen wirklich die Worte. Selten so eine Pizza in Gelsenkirchen gegessen. Schneller Lieferdienst und ne 11/10 Pizza. Ich weiß nun , wo ich meine Pizza in Zukunft bestellen werde. Hut Ab!

Pizza Funghi 🤤 Sehr Lecker und am besten mit Don Marcello Sauce kombinieren. Frisch, sauber, lecker und warm geliefert.

Muss wirklich sagen einer leckersten Pizzerien die ich je gegessen habe. Preisleistung und Geschmack top. Haben zwei Tage hintereinander bestellt weil es so gut war. Hatten leider kein Bargeld fürs Trinkgeld ! Bei der nächsten Bestellung gibt es auf jeden Fall etwas dazu !

Drei Sterne, weil ich das Angebot bezüglich unserer Bewertung mehr als großzügig finde. Wir wollen aber unser Geld nicht zurück, da am Ende jeder schauen muss wo man bleibt und der Betrieb hat ja selbst laufende Kosten. Die drei Sterne sind ganz dem Personal geschuldet auch wenn die Pizza nicht unser war. Die fünf Pizzen die wir bestellt haben waren zum abgewöhnen. Tomatensauce war Tomatenmark..... Der Salat auf der Piazza wurde mit gebacken..... Ich könnte so weiter machen....

Super nettes Team füllt mann sich willkommen. Pizza schmeckt so wie sie schmecken Soll. Und Lieferung dauert nie zu lange. Bin ausnahmsweise mal voll zufrieden.

Es hat sehr lange gedauert und die Pizza war viel zu klein (25 statt 28 cm)

Pizza war sehr lecker aber leider nur noch lauwarm. War ich wohl der letzte auf dieser Liefertour. Anstatt der (angegebenen) 28 cm hatte die Pizza nur 25 cm Größe. Etwas viel Abweichung. Brötchen wurden leider gar nicht erwärmt, waren komplett kalt. Fahrer konnte nicht auf 20 Euro rausgeben. Musste dann zum wechseln nochmal los. Hat mir dann trotzdem zu wenig Geld gegeben und musste nochmal runter Geld holen. Fazit: Essen lecker, bei der Lieferung aber noch Luft nach oben.
