Pizzeria - Da Paolo in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Pizza is great, entertainment too, tennis court atmosphere mediocre.

Off the beaten path a bit, but good food. Salad, pizza, and dessert were enough for two of us to share.

We visited this pizzeria on January 4th after an intense day of skiing. We stopped by on a whim, simply to wait out the traffic jam leaving the Hausberg parking area. From the outside, the building didn’t look particularly special – a typical clubhouse style. The interior was rather minimalist as well, yet cozy. A burning fireplace filled the space with pleasant warmth and that unmistakable mountain cabin aroma. But a restaurant is about much more than just appearances, right? There were four of us. We ordered the daily lasagna and three pizzas: Quattro Formaggi, Pizza Italia with Parma ham and arugula (rucola), and a third pizza that wasn’t even listed on the menu. Our son loved its picture in the menu booklet, and the owner kindly agreed to prepare it especially for him – a Caprese pizza. The lasagna came straight from the oven, piping hot, with a delicate and beautifully balanced flavor. I enjoyed every single bite from the first to the last. When the pizzas arrived, I initially thought I would end up finishing part of our 12-year-old son’s portion – the pizza looked quite ambitious for a boy his age. But it was so delicious that he refused to share and finished it entirely on his own, without any help. I tasted my daughter’s Quattro Formaggi and my wife’s pizza Italia, and I can honestly say this: in my 53 years, I have eaten or tasted countless pizzas across Europe and around the world – first and foremost in Italy itself: Milan, Rome, Verona, Sorrento, Desenzano del Garda, Malcesine, Sirmione, Sicily (Palermo, Balestrate, Trapani, Erice), Capri, and of course the famous Marinara at L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele in Naples. I say this with full responsibility and without any intention of offending Italian pizza masters: I have never tasted a better pizza base than at Da Paolo. Crispy, with a subtle yeast aroma and perfectly balanced flavor – truly exceptional. On the Quattro Formaggi, all four cheeses were clearly distinguishable: elastic and mild mozzarella; a nutty Emmental-like cheese (possibly Gruyère, though to me it leaned closer to Emmental); deeply flavorful Parmigiano Reggiano; and a pleasantly sharp yet well-balanced Gorgonzola. A true celebration of cheese. My wife’s choice was, in my opinion, somewhat risky, as Parma ham can easily ruin a pizza if it is too tough, overly salty, or poorly sliced. That was absolutely not the case here. The delicate, thinly sliced ham, generously topped with fresh arugula, melted in the mouth and paired beautifully with the subtle flavor of the pizza base. Just one word: PERFECT. The service was excellent. The owner was very attentive, friendly, and managed to create the atmosphere of a warm, welcoming, relaxed, and slightly crazy Italian tavern right at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain. We left with full stomachs and incredibly happy, having discovered a true culinary and cultural gem. Highly recommended. 🇮🇹🍕

I stopped by to grab a couple of pizzas to go. The owner came and ushered us in, sat us down, and treated us with true Italian hospitality while we waited. Highly recommend, great pizza, wonderful folks.

So good that we went there twice! Ordered pizza and pasta. All the things were great; flavourful pizza and pasta, pasta cooked to perfection, and amazon pizza crust. Drinks were great too. The best part was the friendly and warm staff.

I've been there for dinner. I agree, it was inedible. And zero cleanliness. I don't recommend it. The owner is very arrogant.

I don't understand why all these good reviews are there. It's really not appropriate with a restaurant sign. We ate a raw, rubbery pizza. Glasses stained with lipstick. My wife and I were really sick that night with diarrhea. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Dirty and zero hygiene. The owner, I assume, is the little old man. Very arrogant. Don't go, you'll be sick.

An off the beaten path gem of a pizzeria! The brick oven pizza and the lasagna are amazing- perhaps the best in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Paolo and his staff are warm, welcoming, humorous and genuine. The prices are more than reasonable.

Nice restaurant and very friendly owner. The food is traditional Italian. Be careful what you say when ordering pizza, no corn on the pizza! Everything tasted great. Prices are reasonable; we paid just under €100 for five people and were all completely full.

The food was amazing! Great flavor and made fresh! The service from the staff was super great! Being clumsy as I am, I broke a beer glass. They were on it! Put together a new order of lasagna and beer with no time wasted. Thank you again for a great meal and such great service!

We ordered the Fresh Lasagna of the day, Spaghetti Frutti di Mare, Spaghetti Aglio e Olio, and Tiramisu, and everything tasted sooo good! It honestly felt like we were in Italy like so so authentic and full of flavor The service was super efficient, and the owner was incredibly friendly, it’s always heartwarming to meet such welcoming people. If you’re around Garmisch, definitely add this place as a lunch or dinner stop, you won’t regret it! The Spaghetti Aglio e Olio was absolute perfection! Can’t wait to come back again ♥️

We've eaten at Paolo's several times and are very satisfied. It has a great terrace and for my husband, who has gluten intolerance, there's great gluten-free pizza and pasta.

Based on the good reviews, I visited this pizzeria on my vacation. I didn't find the ambiance that great, and the service wasn't great either. The disappointing pizza arrived quickly, but I found the toppings rather meager, and it was also very soggy in the middle. I didn't ask if it tasted good or anything; no one seemed to care about me after it was served. The best part was the younger female server, who walked past my table several times without saying a word and stared at me each time as if she were about to eat me. Wonderful :D :D I still gave a €1 tip, which apparently wasn't enough, since the manager returned the remaining amount to me, noticeably pissed off. I can't understand how all the praise in these reviews comes from.

Wonderful pizzeria with a cozy and friendly vibe. The pizzas were excellent - authentic Italian taste with a crispy base and generous toppings. On top of that, the view from the dining area makes the whole experience even better. Perfect place for a relaxed evening with family or friends.

Today we went to Paolo's for pizza and to play tennis. It was lovely, delicious, and very idyllic. We laughed a lot with Paolo and felt very comfortable. We highly recommend it!

I enjoyed a delicious pasta, while my girlfriend had a pizza that was large but a little too juicy. A really rich and tasty salad was served. The staff was very friendly, making funny jokes, including a joke by the chef who pulled out a gun, which I hope was made out of plastic!

The children weren’t just being a bit loud — they were repeatedly screaming, and it significantly disrupted the atmosphere for everyone in the restaurant, not just those drinking “expensive wine.” From what we observed, the staff handled the situation with patience and professionalism. Their responses didn’t seem to favor certain guests, but rather aimed to ensure that all diners — families, couples, and groups alike — could enjoy their evening. We personally found the food and service excellent, but the high noise level made the experience far less enjoyable. To be clear, it wasn’t the staff who complained — it was other customers like us, who were simply hoping for a peaceful meal. It’s not about excluding families; it’s about mutual respect for shared spaces. A restaurant — even one that’s not strictly fine dining — still relies on a certain level of courtesy from everyone so that all guests can have a pleasant experience.

Our visit to Pizzeria Da Paolo was an absolute disaster. This place is blatantly unwelcoming to families with children. As soon as we arrived with our kids, the staff made it clear they weren’t wanted, citing that other guests didn’t want any “noise.” We were shocked when they suggested our children eat in the car instead of inside the restaurant! It was humiliating and completely unacceptable. We decided to leave immediately due to this hostile treatment, but the owner had the nerve to demand we pay the full price for food we even didn’t want anymore. When we explained we were leaving because of their discriminatory attitude, they doubled down, insisting on payment for nothing. It felt like a total scam. The kids had to wait in the car for 30 minutes!! This pizzeria has zero respect for families. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere that doesn’t treat kids like a nuisance. We will never return!

If your restaurant does not accommodate families, that should be clearly stated when reservations are made. To address your remarks directly: yes, our children were briefly unsettled. However, we were attentive, and your exaggerated depiction of “20 minutes of screaming” is both inaccurate and unprofessional. Children sometimes make noise — this is a fact of life, not a violation of decorum. What’s most disappointing is the dismissive and condescending tone of your reply. Rather than engaging constructively, you chose to belittle our family and elevate the comfort of others over common courtesy to all your guests. You mention that a gentleman was tasting a 98-euro wine — but good service should not depend on the price of someone’s drink. We came to your restaurant expecting a welcoming experience. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome, judged, and ultimately left with a sense that families with children are not truly valued by your establishment.

We wanted to eat there, but the sign said "Private Party." We went in anyway and asked if we could get a pizza to go. The owner was very accommodating and friendly and offered us a table on his terrace. We had Pizza Regina and Pizza Tonno. Along with a shandy and the world's best elderflower spritzer. The pizza was fantastic. Light crust, very well-topped. Probably the best pizza I've ever had in a pizzeria. And the value for money is absolutely top-notch! Here, the customer is still king!

A very unfriendly person, with the cafe occupied by 3 tables, did not come to me for an hour to take the order. I also had to go look for the menu myself. I was with two small children. Best pizza in GAP and the best customer service

It's certainly not the best pizza you can get outside of Italy, but it'll satisfy your hunger. If you don't care about the dough but want plenty of toppings, this is a great value for money option.

Danger!!! Don't trust the good reviews! One of the worst pizzas I've ever eaten and the service was an absolute disaster. Glasses were dirty with lipstick on the rim and the music system was constantly turned up so it was no longer possible to have a conversation. I couldn't believe what was happening there. The worst restaurant visit in the last 10 years. Never again!

The Pizzeria Da Paolo is in a sports center, unfortunately the facility is a bit old, but we don't want to look at it. The service is very friendly, the food is great. We each had bruschetta as a starter and then lasagna and spaghetti bolognese. All the dishes were absolutely top, thank you very much
