Excellent value for money!!! A genuine Italian pizzeria tucked away in the residential area of ​​Hechtersheim. The pizzas were a good size with generous toppings, the dough was superb, and the kitchen staff was quick and efficient. I haven't had such good food in a long time, and the service was fast. The Insalata Tacchino (with chicken) was a bit stingy with the salad, but the small pizza bread more than made up for it.

A very nice Italian restaurant with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. Extensive menu, good wines, and delicious desserts. Attentive and competent staff. Good value for money.

Unfortunately, I absolutely cannot recommend this service. Delivery to Gonsenheim is fine, but the stated delivery times are completely useless. In the end, there was over an hour's delay, no updates whatsoever, the driver was unreachable, and the app displayed incorrect information. When I inquired at the restaurant, I was met with a shrug: "We'll adjust the times afterward." Seriously? That's unacceptable. Had I known this beforehand, I never would have ordered. Result: four hungry children who, thanks to this "delivery time," were understandably grumpy. Clear recommendation: order somewhere else.

We ordered pizzas and had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for two pizzas that didn't contain what we ordered or were charged for. Besides, they weren't even oven-baked, despite the previous owner supposedly having built-in ovens in their cars. And the taste was abysmal; a third of the pizza was just a lump of dough. It's hard to imagine that pizzas with less toppings, more expensive, smaller, and more expensive pizzas with less dough, especially given the abundance of pizzerias around.

I think the gluten-free pizza is better than the regular here to be honest. The middle of my pizza bottom was pretty soggy, while my wife’s gluten-free was nice and crispy. The tiramisu was a nice large portion and the Paulaner bier was delicious as always.

Picked up 4 pizzas today. Only the crust was edible. The cream ran down the pizza along with the topping. It was completely soggy and had no seasoning at all. Huge chunks of onion. Inedible. No Gorgonzola.

I've been going to Pizza Dato since I was a teenager, and now, after a year of forced hiatus, this 😣 The mayo sauce I used to use is completely gone; you can see something thin and white and liquid, but you can't taste it (what is that?). It makes the salad taste bad at all, even though everything is fresh and the ingredients are the same. The Bolognese spaghetti isn't tasty either; the sauce tastes and looks completely different. The team, all the friendly Italians, and the boss are also gone. Never again, what a bitter end 😵‍💫

Here you can find incredibly delicious and unusual pizzas in a variety of variations and combinations (four different toppings on one pizza). The taste and size were perfect; I highly recommend it!

I visit here to drink beer and have dinner after just arriving Gemany by flight. I was tired with long-distance filght, but still happy with being here. A modern restaurant in small peaceful village. How can not I love this restaurant? I leave here with lovely memory.

We stayed at Hotel Garni am Hechenberg for one night; this restaurant is within walking distance. The prices were good, and so was the food (2025).

We've eaten pizza and salad there many times. Today, unfortunately, it was very bad. The salad dressing (mayo) was just water with no flavor. Unfortunately, the pizza took a turn for the worse. None of us liked it at all. We'll order our pizza somewhere else. What a shame. I also keep asking myself why good products are made worse. Can't they just leave everything as it is/was?

What a shame! We've been regular customers for over 30 years, but we can't get used to the new pizza version. The dough is very thick on the outside and wafer-thin in the middle, so the toppings are completely soggy. At parties, we often order several different pizzas and enjoy them as a "pizza buffet," but that's unfortunately not possible with this pizza.

It's a shame... years ago, I used to enjoy going to Dato. But last time, as soon as we sat down, they asked us what we wanted to drink. There was a fly on my pizza. While we were still eating, someone passed by and slid a note onto the table saying the table was reserved in about 40 minutes. That's not how I imagine a restaurant visit.

Pizza Dato is love at first bite. The pizza is simply incredible: thin dough, aromatic sauce, quality ingredients - you can feel everything. I especially liked the one with prosciutto and arugula, the taste is perfectly balanced. The interior is cozy, without unnecessary things, but with an atmosphere - as if you were in Tuscany for a minute. The staff is very polite, but unobtrusive. It is nice to just have dinner here and spend the evening with loved ones. I will definitely come back.

Update 06/2025 The quality is still okay. What's really bad is that you can't rely on delivery. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. It's incredibly annoying. Especially when you have 10 hungry customers in your office... Conclusion: There are plenty of other pizza makers who can guarantee delivery!

Not for those who prefer a more sloppy crust. Here, you'll find perfectly firm crust, and the delicate, thin, full-flavored center unobtrusively carries the flavors of the ingredients. Absolutely unique on Dato's menu is the first double page, featuring a few unusual pasta dishes and pizzas. The service staff are very friendly, the ambiance a bit loud – leggermente vivace, in other words ;-) Oh, and I had bresaola, arugula, lemon zest, and Parmesan shavings. A dream ;-)

I've been eating pizza there for almost 50 years. I no longer live in Mainz, but I'm there every time I visit; twice this week. The pizzas have been changed. Different, slightly tough dough (sourdough?), wide and high edge and a bit mushy in the middle. The waitresses were a bit haphazard, with the exception of the last Mohican from the original cast. So everything seems to be changing. Unfortunately it's no longer my thing after such a long time. Too bad...

Since the new owner in 2024, there has been a significantly lower occupancy of the pizza and an additional unoccupied edge on the outside. 2 pizzas and two pasta portions cost around 46 euros when picked up.

My children cannot tolerate gluten, so we have always enjoyed eating here in the past, and pizza and pasta, even with regular dough, have always been delicious. Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, the pizzeria changed for the worse. Higher prices, unfriendly staff, hardly any toppings but mostly soggy dough. Eternal waiting time. The crowning glory was my salad, which was served without any dressing! After I pointed this out, all I was given was a bottle of oil - no vinegar, no herbs, no apology, nothing!!!! Thanks for nothing, we won't come back.

It was our first time there. You were warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable in the restaurant. The food was very tasty. The pizzas tasted really good. We will definitely come back. I think the prices for around 10 euros for a pizza and 4 euros for a wine are very fair for today.

My parents were among the first customers since 1975 and for me Pizza Dato was always top. Unfortunately, the quality has declined (but the prices have risen) since the change of ownership last year. Sometimes the pizza was good, but often it was limp. Yesterday I ordered a pizza online for 7 p.m. (the homepage offers this option). When I went to pick up the pizza at 7 p.m., all hell broke loose. At some point I would be asked who ordered the pizza I ordered. I would then have to watch as they took it out of the box to put it back in the oven, as it was apparently already cold and was probably finished long before 7 p.m. At first I wasn't sure if it was actually my pizza and considering that the place was full and there were a lot of people waiting for orders, I didn't say anything. Apparently they poured half a bottle of oil over the pizza because it was so dry. At home I fished the pizza out of an oil-soaked cardboard box and partially wrapped the pizza using a kitchen towel. freed from oil. It was dry and crunchy...plus it wasn't really warm. Would have to put it in the oven again. After this impudence I will never order pizza or eat there again.

Very unfortunate. We have always ordered our favorite pizza for delivery here, which is not available anywhere else in Mainz. The owner seems to have changed and now Lieferando is also there. The result: everything is more expensive and more dough than pizza, soft and no longer crispy, very wide and high at the edge, flaky in the middle, saves on toppings. If it stays that way, that's it for us, unfortunately.
