Here you can find incredibly delicious and unusual pizzas in a variety of variations and combinations (four different toppings on one pizza). The taste and size were perfect; I highly recommend it!

I visit here to drink beer and have dinner after just arriving Gemany by flight. I was tired with long-distance filght, but still happy with being here. A modern restaurant in small peaceful village. How can not I love this restaurant? I leave here with lovely memory.

We stayed at Hotel Garni am Hechenberg for one night; this restaurant is within walking distance. The prices were good, and so was the food (2025).

We've eaten pizza and salad there many times. Today, unfortunately, it was very bad. The salad dressing (mayo) was just water with no flavor. Unfortunately, the pizza took a turn for the worse. None of us liked it at all. We'll order our pizza somewhere else. What a shame. I also keep asking myself why good products are made worse. Can't they just leave everything as it is/was?

What a shame! We've been regular customers for over 30 years, but we can't get used to the new pizza version. The dough is very thick on the outside and wafer-thin in the middle, so the toppings are completely soggy. At parties, we often order several different pizzas and enjoy them as a "pizza buffet," but that's unfortunately not possible with this pizza.

The gluten-free pizza is excellent! A great option for someone with celiac disease.

It's a shame... years ago, I used to enjoy going to Dato. But last time, as soon as we sat down, they asked us what we wanted to drink. There was a fly on my pizza. While we were still eating, someone passed by and slid a note onto the table saying the table was reserved in about 40 minutes. That's not how I imagine a restaurant visit.

Pizza Dato is love at first bite. The pizza is simply incredible: thin dough, aromatic sauce, quality ingredients - you can feel everything. I especially liked the one with prosciutto and arugula, the taste is perfectly balanced. The interior is cozy, without unnecessary things, but with an atmosphere - as if you were in Tuscany for a minute. The staff is very polite, but unobtrusive. It is nice to just have dinner here and spend the evening with loved ones. I will definitely come back.

We ordered, and what can I say? I can only agree with everyone else who has said it: the pizza was fantastic, the ingredients were fresh, the dough was so fluffy, simply a dream! The pizza chef here absolutely knows his craft! One of the best pizzas I've ever had the pleasure of eating in Germany.

The service is fast, the prices are more than pleasant. A great place for dinner with friends or a cozy evening for two. I will definitely come back again!

Somehow, the dishes have recently become extremely poor. The pizzas no longer have the usual toppings (different cheese). And what I've also noticed: the portions are getting much smaller but more expensive. It was my favorite pizzeria.

My girlfriend and I went for our second breakfast and were amazed. This is a real discovery for pizza lovers! Pizza Dato has a wonderful combination of taste, service and atmosphere. We ordered the "Diavola" pizza - the dough was crispy, the sauce was spicy, and the toppings were just perfect. Everything was served quickly and with a smile. The interior is cozy, pleasant music and an unobtrusive atmosphere - perfect for dinner with friends or family. We will definitely come back again.

Update 06/2025 The quality is still okay. What's really bad is that you can't rely on delivery. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. It's incredibly annoying. Especially when you have 10 hungry customers in your office... Conclusion: There are plenty of other pizza makers who can guarantee delivery!

The pizza was delicious. We had a pepperoni pizza and a gluten-free margarita, which we highly recommend. The dough was homemade, and my friend said it was the best gluten-free pizza she'd ever eaten. It's also suitable for people with celiac disease. The conservatory is really lovely, but it quickly got very warm, which wasn't a big deal.

Excellent, flavorful crust, a typical, authentic Neapolitan pizza. A thick, airy, crispy crust with aromatic blisters – croccante, in other words – is beyond criticism. Not for those who prefer a more sloppy crust. Here, you'll find perfectly firm crust, and the delicate, thin, full-flavored center unobtrusively carries the flavors of the ingredients. Absolutely unique on Dato's menu is the first double page, featuring a few unusual pasta dishes and pizzas. The service staff are very friendly, the ambiance a bit loud – leggermente vivace, in other words ;-) Oh, and I had bresaola, arugula, lemon zest, and Parmesan shavings. A dream ;-)

We went out to eat with the family. The service was super friendly and attentive – all our requests were accommodated. The food was delicious, and the pizza was truly generous. Our daughter lost a small toy dog, and unfortunately, we couldn't find it until we left. The next day, we received a call saying the cleaning lady had found it and we could pick it up – that's what I call customer service. We'd love to come back.

I've been eating pizza there for almost 50 years. I no longer live in Mainz, but I'm there every time I visit; twice this week. The pizzas have been changed. Different, slightly tough dough (sourdough?), wide and high edge and a bit mushy in the middle. The waitresses were a bit haphazard, with the exception of the last Mohican from the original cast. So everything seems to be changing. Unfortunately it's no longer my thing after such a long time. Too bad...

You can tell that the food here is still cooked with passion. Whether pizza or pasta. I have yet to find a dish that doesn't taste good. It's always fresh and hot. The pasta dishes in particular are a dream. Simple, but on point in terms of taste! The sauces here taste like tomatoes and not like powder. You should make a reservation where you live or simply order.

Since the new owner in 2024, there has been a significantly lower occupancy of the pizza and an additional unoccupied edge on the outside. 2 pizzas and two pasta portions cost around 46 euros when picked up.

My children cannot tolerate gluten, so we have always enjoyed eating here in the past, and pizza and pasta, even with regular dough, have always been delicious. Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, the pizzeria changed for the worse. Higher prices, unfriendly staff, hardly any toppings but mostly soggy dough. Eternal waiting time. The crowning glory was my salad, which was served without any dressing! After I pointed this out, all I was given was a bottle of oil - no vinegar, no herbs, no apology, nothing!!!! Thanks for nothing, we won't come back.

It was our first time there. You were warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable in the restaurant. The food was very tasty. The pizzas tasted really good. We will definitely come back. I think the prices for around 10 euros for a pizza and 4 euros for a wine are very fair for today.

Lasagna, pizza and salads really good. Operation can be expanded. Passing the food from the front side past the heads of the others is the standard of a beer tent. Likewise drinking. Regardless of whether you are a temporary worker, a student or an apprentice, you don't do that.

Just picked up a gluten free seafood pizza here. The gluten-free dough is okay, but unfortunately there isn't anything more positive to say about it. The pizza is really limp and undercooked. Unfortunately, the extra charge of €2.50 for gluten-free isn't worth it in the end. I was really looking forward to it, paid €17.5 for it and was very disappointed… What a shame.

My parents were among the first customers since 1975 and for me Pizza Dato was always top. Unfortunately, the quality has declined (but the prices have risen) since the change of ownership last year. Sometimes the pizza was good, but often it was limp. Yesterday I ordered a pizza online for 7 p.m. (the homepage offers this option). When I went to pick up the pizza at 7 p.m., all hell broke loose. At some point I would be asked who ordered the pizza I ordered. I would then have to watch as they took it out of the box to put it back in the oven, as it was apparently already cold and was probably finished long before 7 p.m. At first I wasn't sure if it was actually my pizza and considering that the place was full and there were a lot of people waiting for orders, I didn't say anything. Apparently they poured half a bottle of oil over the pizza because it was so dry. At home I fished the pizza out of an oil-soaked cardboard box and partially wrapped the pizza using a kitchen towel. freed from oil. It was dry and crunchy...plus it wasn't really warm. Would have to put it in the oven again. After this impudence I will never order pizza or eat there again.

Apparently the owner has changed and there is no longer any delivery service offered. Very unfortunate! I wonder which pizzeria no longer offers delivery service these days? In addition, the lady on the phone is extremely demotivated and rude. You should avoid this kind of behavior towards customers, it doesn't leave a good impression.

Very unfortunate. We have always ordered our favorite pizza for delivery here, which is not available anywhere else in Mainz. The owner seems to have changed and now Lieferando is also there. The result: everything is more expensive and more dough than pizza, soft and no longer crispy, very wide and high at the edge, flaky in the middle, saves on toppings. If it stays that way, that's it for us, unfortunately.

What happened in this store? Waited 2 hours for the pizza to arrive and of course canceled my order straight away. They don't even come towards you either. Unfortunately, Pizza Dato can no longer be recommended.

Ordered pizza for the second time in a short time. After the taste disaster a few weeks ago, we gave Pizza Dato another chance and were unfortunately disappointed again. This time not only with bad taste, but also with burnt grilled vegetables. Unfortunately, we cannot make any recommendations at the moment.

Pizza for pickup. Unfortunately, one of two pizzas was pretty burnt on the bottom and partly inedible. The other pizza was the wrong one - margarita instead of pazza. I hope that was an exception. Was there for the first time and will test it again soon.

Last: Reduced from 4 to 3 stars because this is definitely not the Dato we knew for so long. If I want to eat the type of pizza that Dato currently has, I usually go somewhere else. Here at Dato I expect the “old” quality that we have come to appreciate and love. It's a shame, but we wish the (previous) operator a pleasant retirement and thank him for his time! Previously: As regulars since 2002, we have ordered pizza very often. Since Corona (and the price adjustment) less and recently only every 1-2 months, because the pizzas have apparently become smaller, the salt content has increased significantly and the pizza crust has become significantly wider and thicker. We don't like that, it used to be better. We have already sat here in the winter garden and in the restaurant, picked up food or had it delivered. Sometimes mistakes happen when ordering over the phone, which is annoying, but you can usually forgive it until the next time. We'll try it 1-2 more times, but if it stays like this, we'll probably no longer be regulars. The current valuation still draws on the past, but from our point of view the trend is unfortunately rather downward...

Hi, After the takeover, Pizza Dato no longer has the same quality as it did in the Data era. Pasta is no longer of the same quality and salad ingredients are missing. Pizza dough has gotten worse. The pizza dough border has become really wide and large, at the expense of the pizza topping!! Pizza dough no longer tastes the same. Long delivery times for delivery. Yes, it's a shame. I'm really very disappointed from today onwards. Last 2 times the pizza wasn't completely different as usual. I pointed this out and would just put the pizza back in the oven at home and the 7 minute drive would be too long to get home and that would make it soft But no, they were delivered soft, I opened them in the car, I was so happy when I found you and now this 😥

My family has been coming here for years, back when we didn't know about my problem with gluten, and then when I discovered with friends that gluten-free pizzas were just as delicious here. However, since the operator changed, things have gotten a bit out of kilter. Not only has everything become more expensive, but the gluten-free pizzas have become particularly small. The normal pizzas are also a little smaller and the dough is different too. Instead, new plates that are less practical, small lights and flowers that get in the way of the large pizza plates. Placemats which, despite demand, are only washed off more often than not. Crumbs collect on glasses and cutlery, some of which are lying there unnecessarily. The old place cards were practical and always clean. This is a big drawback for me, especially because of gluten, just as when I am served by one of the bakers with a floury T-shirt. I didn't have that back then. I really hope that people here go back to the old ways.

We are long-term customers. Unfortunately, things are no longer the same after changing operators. The personal atmosphere is somehow gone. The boss used to respond directly to the customers and listen to the guests. That's no longer the case. At least that is no longer noticeable to us. For us, this means that the restaurant is no different from any other restaurant, which we find very unfortunate.

Very nice feel-good atmosphere, friendly employees and a very committed boss. The pizzas were outstanding, which was to be expected given the high quality of the ingredients. Nothing is bought from the supermarket next door (nothing against supermarkets!), but the difference in quality is simply there and is noticeable. I definitely recommend!

Pizza is wonderful, but charging €1.30 for a crumb of garlic is far above the usual calculation factor of 4. At Pepe you get Knobi for free, but I don't want anything for free either. Unfortunately, the crumb of garlic tastes old and musty. Otherwise the perfect pizza. I'd love to come back, but next time I won't use garlic if it tastes so disgusting. The boss also complained to the staff, which was audible throughout the restaurant... I don't know what it was about exactly, but as a customer you shouldn't notice something like that!
