Piccola Italia Leipzig in Leipzig

My wife and I order from here several times a week. We're Italian and have worked in the restaurant industry for a long time, so we know Italian food very well. We never eat out, so I don't know if there are other Italian restaurants in Leipzig that are this good and don't offer delivery. But to the best of my knowledge, nowhere else in Leipzig can you get better and more authentic Italian food delivered. As my wife already wrote in her review, you can immediately taste the difference in the Italian ingredients they use. Anyone who has eaten in Italy knows that Italian food doesn't taste the same without Italian ingredients. In my opinion, the difference is even more noticeable with pizza. There are a few pizzerias in Leipzig that use real mozzarella, but as far as I know, only Piccola Italia uses so many other Italian ingredients, such as artichokes, olives, ham, mozzarella, salami, etc. With Italian ingredients, the pizza simply tastes different! The portions are quite large (the pizza is huge), and for the quality and quantity you get, the prices are very reasonable. The owner is also very nice. He gave us a bottle of good wine for New Year's Eve and always gives us a little extra when we ask. Just like in Italy. Thank you, Giovanni!

A culinary delight every time; you have to try everything on the daily menu.

My favorite among my four favorite pizzerias that offer delivery in Leipzig. The owner is from Southern Italy. You might be thinking, "Why should we care?" Simply put: Southern Italians are more hospitable than Northern Italians. That doesn't mean Northern Italians aren't hospitable. They're just a bit more like you Germans :p Furthermore, food culture is even more pronounced in Central and Southern Italy, almost to the point of obsession. Together, it means: in Southern Italy, it's especially important to welcome guests with plenty of the best food. They say it's a matter of taste, and it's true, there are people who give Domino's five stars, or call a kebab place "best pizza in Leipzig" (probably after a lot of "smoking," if everything tastes fantastic). Things I wouldn't even give my dog... That's why I'm going to give this pizza a detailed review, so you have clear reasons to make your decision. I'll review the pizza in detail so you have a clear basis for your decision. I tried the Vegetariana several times: - The tomato sauce tasted fresh and neutral, only lightly flavored with basil and perhaps olive oil. This is important; many people (especially at kebab shops) use a pasta sauce for their pizza, which is heavily cooked and flavored, but that's not how it's done in Italy! - The dough, as is typical in southern Italy, was neither as thick as in Naples nor as thin as in Rome, crispy at the edges and pliable otherwise. Next time I'll order the Margherita, so I can tell you what the dough is like without so many toppings. It was perfectly salted to my taste, meaning just a little. In Italy, pizza dough is made less salty than bread dough. If the dough has too much salt, the toppings don't taste as good. I'm not sure if they used some durum wheat semolina, as is often the case in southern Italy, but there was some semolina in it, which felt nice to me. ``` - The pepperoni seems to have been lightly grilled, or perhaps briefly prepared on a baking sheet in a pizza oven. That's typical in southern Italy, and I especially like it that way. - The artichokes are of high quality. It's incredibly difficult to find good artichokes in Germany. They're often too sour and a bit tough. Not here at all! - The spinach was chopped and briefly sautéed with a little garlic, not carelessly chopped and straight from the package as is so often the case elsewhere. - THE BLACK OLIVES ARE THE BEST EVER! EVER Just a heads-up, they're pitted! You can't find such good olives without pits, and if you had to pit each olive by hand, you'd be done for the day before you even started. I don't think I've ever eaten such good black olives in Germany. They're just like in southern Italy, a bit bitter when you first bite into them, but then the natural sweetness kicks in, and the soft, meaty texture. I buy good Kalamata olives at Rewe, but they're hardly comparable! That's why I asked them to put lots of them on this time. And look at the picture! THAT'S hospitality! Well, maybe because I'm half southern Italian myself, they can't give that much extra for free to every customer. They're very expensive. But still! So, I currently have 3-4 favorite pizzerias in Leipzig, each with a different style, and that's why I sometimes order from one, sometimes from another. But I like this one the best. Partly subjective, because I'm used to the southern Italian style. But also, more generally and objectively speaking, I think Piccola Italia stands out from the others. Somehow I notice both a higher quality of ingredients and the owner's attentiveness; it's clear that being hospitable is important to him. Seriously, did you see the picture? That's like someone from southern Italy welcoming you! And you buy pizza at Domino's? Or at kebab shops? WHY?

A nice, inviting restaurant in the basement of a late 19th-century building, the kind that used to be quite common. If you don't mind a bit of a squeeze, you'll feel right at home here. Before a football match on a weekday evening, the place was packed with RB Leipzig and visiting fans. A place where fraternizing comes easily. Unpretentious Italian cuisine without any unnecessary frills. We had bruschetta (very good), various types of tagliatelle, and risotto. Everything was good. We were satisfied.

A very good Italian restaurant. We were here on Wednesday and ordered ribbon pasta with spinach and salmon, and spaghetti with shrimp. Without even asking, the pasta with shrimp was served with garlic and spicy seasoning. A huge compliment to the kitchen for that! The food was excellent and absolutely delicious. The new waitress was very attentive and friendly. We'd love to come back to this lovely restaurant and see the friendly staff again.

We had reserved a table for five. The restaurant, with its TV showing a Christmas scene interrupted by commercials, might not be what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. The staff was friendly and provided good service. The food arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately, the pasta with Gorgonzola was very small compared to the other portions. The risotto was okay, but not at all creamy like you'd expect. It was more like rice mixed with mushrooms and wasn't presented very attractively. The pizzas were alright, but the vegetables tasted strongly of being refrigerated and were clearly not very fresh. The dessert selection was very limited, so we decided against it. The bill for five of us came to around €100, which was acceptable. An average restaurant, but we probably won't be going back.

We spent a week in Leipzig and ate at Piccola Italia almost every evening. I must especially commend the friendly team. The dishes are wonderful, traditional, and prepared with fresh ingredients. Overall, a fantastic restaurant. Many thanks to the Piccola team and best regards from Vienna.

The food there was delicious, and the portions were absolutely sufficient for a normal eater. The evening we were there, the restaurant was busy. Despite all that, the drinks came quite quickly. The restaurant also seems to be a meeting place for various Leipzig soccer fans, as many pictures on the walls attest. All in all, it was a nice restaurant visit.

Be careful when the bill comes, you might be charged twice for the same dishes or there might be dishes on the bill that you didn't even order. So be careful.

We ventured into this very centrally located restaurant for the second time. The food is solid, as is the ambiance. A daily specials menu rounds out the offerings, served on a terrace in front of the restaurant entrance, with occasionally excellent service. Italian flair wasn't particularly evident this time either, although the food sometimes is, and the price/performance ratio is acceptable. But the name says it all...Piccola Italia

Been here twice and it is a must fornour family as the food, the service and atmosphere are amazing. On top of that, they really made our pup feel just as welcome as us by bringing him fresh water and making sure he had a nice cool shady spot to rest while we ate. Looking forward to stop by there again next time we are in Leipzig!

A very cute, small cellar restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, a bit rustic, definitely Italian. The map is not oversized, but it is well laid out so that everyone is sure to find something. We had four different dishes and 3 different desserts and at the end we could say with a clear conscience that everything was delicious. You can still work on the service. The young men were quite friendly, but far removed from Italian charm and warmth, and their appearance (track jacket) didn't match the look of the restaurant. Overall, however, recommended.

Got a brilliant Italian meal in the evening on a short city trip. The antipasto misto starter was a huge portion, easily enough for two people and the pizza was incredibly tasty. The floor is simply awesome!

Despite repeated indications that our beef fillet pizza only contained pork, the owner wanted us to believe that it was beef. This was refuted by a friendly waitress. It was pork. The boss had the bill brought and threw us out. Never again and absolutely no recommendation!!!!!

We were there yesterday… definitely the last time. The food was overcooked and not tasty, for example Risotto with beef fillet tips, the tips were missing, etc. The cleanliness in the toilets left a lot to be desired (the trash can is totally filthy) Conclusion: the restaurant is not recommended.

There is a lot of potential for improvement here. The pasta was hard, the broccoli was soft - unfortunately there were few traces of Gorgonzola. But there was a long wait even though we were the only guests. The only thing that was intense was the smell of the service staff's cigarettes.

We were just passing through after visiting the zoo, we were very hungry. I googled what was rated well nearby. We walked for about 15 minutes and were excited to see what awaited us. When we arrived we initially wanted to sit outside but decided to eat inside because more rain made it seem safer for us. We were there around 7:30 p.m. - there were already very few free tables. But we were lucky to get another one The service was very friendly and tried hard to make it work. The restaurant can be reached by going down a few steps as it is located in a basement. The atmosphere is very well maintained and you immediately feel at home. Even though it was very crowded. We only had to wait about 20 minutes until we received our pizzas. We were surprised at the size, they were really huge! from the stone oven and very tasty and well topped. We didn't manage to plaster them completely. We paid 60 euros including drinks for 2 people and 1 child, not a little but definitely justified. We've been eating out for more money lately, but sometimes the quality or quantity wasn't right. We were satisfied here and would happily recommend it to others.
