Pho 1990 in Kiel

I've had lunch there twice in the last 2 weeks. It's always not too crowded at lunchtime, the service is always great, always perfect timing and the food is prepared quickly. For me, Vietnamese cuisine is always great and it always tastes good here. I also think it's great that almost everything is vegetarian!

Unfortunately, my second visit wasn't as good as the first. The service was just bad, it has to be said. We had to wave several times each time. You would have earned more from us if you had come to us. Then we would definitely have drunk more. The summer rolls weren't great, but the pho was very good. But overall you could get more out of the store. Furnishings are nothing special and could use a bit more coziness.

The food is great, the service is good. We quickly became regulars. It can get a little louder at high loads. This can be handled well with the appropriate booking request. And the Instagram presence is also maintained in a highly professional and appealing manner. Everything really fits here - great performance!

My first time there, the ambience was okay, nothing special but quite nice :) Service was perfect, very nice, professional and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. It's a bit expensive compared to other shops, there could be liters of drinks on the menu so you know what you're getting. The food was also very tasty, I would like to come back :)

Yes, dish 32 was really tasty. It is a fairly large room in which the wooden tables are spread out with 4 wooden chairs each. That's why it echoes a little. The walls are tastefully decorated. Would come back there at any time

We had great Vietnamese food that was very fresh and tasted very good 🥰 The service was also very nice. Everything was good, we would come back if we were in Kiel again.

Pho is the national dish of the Vietnamese and for the first time I found a Vietnamese person who makes it so authentically without adulterating it on the grounds that non-Vietnamese people want it that way. In the catering industry you often come across concepts that aim to process guests quickly and achieve high profits with little performance. But here at Pho1990 you can see the energetic enthusiasm of a young entrepreneur who is not ashamed to offer authentic Vietnamese cuisine and stands behind his concept. If you're ever in Kiel and want to know what a good authentic Pho tastes like, you definitely have to stop by there. Important to note is. If you eat the Pho, pay attention to the broth, which must taste full-bodied and strong. Coriander, spring onions, white and red onions should not be missing. Wafer-thin beef and flat rice noodles that bring everything together. This is good pho. Oh, for each character individually, you can add limes and chilies for acidity and spiciness, but I think you will find your taste in the pho soup. Nicely decorated and good lighting, a little bad acoustics and a little tired waiter, but it is also close to Christmas and they are busy. As for the most important thing, the food, my choices of dishes lack something basic. First a beef soup that is ok but lacks salt. Next, fried noodles with eggs, prawns, garlic (I'm sold) with tomato and with soy, exciting, I haven't tried it before! No! Tomato and soy do not belong together. It's heavy with heavy on. It was too salty and it was too much flavor and no balance. I had to live, and I eat almost everything. My better half got some nice, well-balanced dishes and therefore 3 stars. It must not be a lottery and therefore I think a basic craft is missing... will I come again? No.

We were at Pho 1990 on a Saturday evening and luckily had reserved in advance - absolutely necessary because it was really full (and therefore quite loud at times). Despite the rush, the service was super nice and patiently took the time to answer our questions about the menu. It took about 30 minutes for our order (including drinks) to be taken. The wait didn't bother us that much, but I'm sure everyone sees it differently. About the food itself: We tried several dishes and they all looked great and were really tasty! The ingredients were fresh and the selection of vegan options is great 🌱. The portions are really generous – we were super full! However, we couldn't tell from the menu how big the portions were, which was a bit confusing. A number of pieces would be particularly practical for summer or spring rolls. The price-performance ratio is good and there are even cheap offers at lunchtime. Around 9 p.m. it became much quieter, so we were able to end the evening relaxing. We would definitely like to come back! 🍜👌

We ordered via Lieferando and were thrilled, everything was still hot and of good quality. Beef and duck that were still crispy despite the delivery time. I particularly liked the dessert version with banana and rice combination with nuts on top and a white sauce. Mega and the small fried balls were also very good. I also ordered a portion of scampi and they were also great. Gladly again, even if the whole thing including delivery was €92, 3 main courses - 2 times dessert and the scampis. It's worth it.

We were there for the second time last night and were just as impressed as our first visit. Price/performance is great, the service is always warm and friendly and the food is simply amazing! We can really recommend it and look forward to many more visits to Pho! :)

Spontaneously found “Pho 1990” on a day trip in Kiel. The service is very good, the employees are friendly and attentive. As a starter we had a mango strip salad. The salad and dressing were great together. You can't do it better. Note: the mango salad had no spiciness of its own! However, this can be added individually and independently by the visitor. The main course was Pho Ga and crispy noodles. With the Pho Ga we personally (in my wife's case) were missing some coriander and the spiciness. However, there were fresh chilies at the table for spiciness. Otherwise a great and authentic taste. The crispy noodles were really crunchy and the fresh vegetables were still crunchy and not overcooked. The whole thing in a tasty sauce at the bottom of the plate so that you could mix the intensity yourself. I spooned out the remaining sauce. The whole thing comes with cold drinks for €47.50. The Pho was available on the lunch menu for a great €11.80. Our dog (small French bulldog) was also very welcome. We felt comfortable and had a really delicious and authentic meal.

We had summer rolls, a classic Pho and Bun Bo Nam Bo and were very satisfied. The food was very tasty and of good quality, especially the peanut sauce with the rolls. In addition, the service was very friendly and quick. The only thing missing was a little bit of spice in the Pho broth. Still 5 stars and we'll be happy to come back.

By far the best soup we have ever eaten in all of Germany. We've actually tried quite a few, this one is the most authentic. We had lunch. The prices are really great and the portions are more than enough. Even the prices for the evening are very good and reasonable. I really like the ambience, calm music in the background. The employees are all very friendly and accommodating. Very nice shop, we will definitely come back.

The best Pho in Germany! 🇩🇪 I have already tried about 10-15 Pho restaurants in Germany. Here we cook according to tradition and that's why it tastes so delicious. I jumped on it so quickly that I forgot to take photos. That will never happen to me! My wife ate noodles and I ate spring rolls. Everything is really excellent! Locals also eat here, which is a very good sign!

Super delicious food, but waiting more than 1 hour to get food is too long. The place doesn't have much spirit or Asian feel.

Service was outstanding, incredibly friendly and attentive to check in on you - even during their break! The broth was the tastiest and full bodied version I've had around the Baltic Sea - nicely balanced and aromatic with herbs which complemented the delicious noodles and breadstick, which was a first I've ever had! Restaurant is thoughtfully decorated with cute hints of Vietnam, super clean, and affordable menu has a lot of variety for unique flavors of home.

I heard a lot of good things about the restaurant and was very happy to try out the menu. I was there on a Saturday evening, unfortunately the food was mediocre at best. The chicken wings were dry, the dip for the spring rolls, which were unfortunately somewhat burnt and dry, consisted mostly of water and had no taste, the pho consisted practically only of noodles, the soup was hardly there, the iced tea was more of a syrup and we had to use water order so that it is drinkable. The other starters were ok, but nothing I would order again. It could be that (even though the store was only half full) there is a lot to do on a Saturday. However, I think it is important that the quality always remains the same, even on stressful evenings. Unfortunately I wouldn't go there anymore. Too bad

I had dinner there yesterday with two good friends for a birthday. We were immediately given a table and the waiter soon arrived. The waiter was very nice. We ordered and the waiting time was short. We all found the food very tasty, the price is completely understandable. Very good restaurant, I recommend 100%.

Looking for rich flavourful balanced tastes of Vietnam? Go here! Many put springrolls on their menu cause it's "easy", it is not, these people know their art of preparing them. (And mmm the peanut sauce...) I'm vegetarian and even i though the chicken dish from the table next to us smelled great 😅 Our 2 dishes we're very good, and the rice was cooked perfectly.

We ate here 2 out of the 3 days we were in Kiel. Very delicious food, nice staff and great atmosphere.

Update: Due to the very professional handling of my criticism, we made a new attempt to visit the restaurant today. Today the service was very courteous and friendly and the food was excellent. Gladly again! ---------- We were really looking forward to the meal and made a reservation for 4 in advance. When we arrived we were assigned a table at the back of the restaurant. We asked for a table inside by the door that was open to the outside. We were denied this with the information that these were tables for two and that they were being kept free for potential other guests; However, they were not visibly reserved. It should be noted that only a single table inside was occupied. It's a shame that the service is so not flexible and so not customer-friendly. Instead, we had an excellent meal at a Japanese restaurant around the corner.

We were there for dinner recently. Super nice staff. Very friendly. Fast service and great food. Summer rolls are highly recommended. The Pho is also great and the bowls were also well prepared and very tasty. Dressing comes separately and can be combined as desired. 5 stars - straight 1 - we'll go there again. :)

Nice shine. But absolutely not recommended. Unfortunately, after visiting the restaurant, I felt very unwell in my intestinal area. There is something unhealthy in the food or not being a good cook. - Small portion for expensive money with a lot of noodles (filling material) and sauce and hardly any vegetables and no typical herbs. It seemed very economical and prepared for profit for the owner. - The food here is very expensive relative to here. - The tofu dish was very bland and boring in taste. - No herbs, few spices, probably just flavor enhancers and ready-made, cheap and unhealthy sauce powders. It gave me a stomach ache. - Few spices to choose from at the table. Just pepper, salt + sweet chili. (No soy sauce etc.) - Fatty, gristly meat in meat dishes! - Uncomfortable chairs. I don't understand all the good reviews. The Germans probably don't know about good Asian food. Many people seem to think it's delicious but there are much better Vietnamese options. It is far too expensive here for this quality and hygiene and quality should be checked more often!

Very cool restaurant. The food is great, the service is great and the location is also great. Just a really great evening. I can recommend it to everybody. I had a starter salad with beef and the main course also had beef, which was super tender and well seasoned.

We went on a day trip to “Kiel Week”. And my wife was hungry for Vietnamese. That's how we ended up here. Very centrally located. The restaurant is tastefully decorated. There is also an outdoor area. The staff is nice, attentive and friendly. There was 1x Pho Ha Noi (noodle soup), 1 mineral water and a cola for €22.70. The soup was good, we couldn't identify the side dish (but it tasted good). Conclusion: Recommended

Went there spontaneously and it was very tasty. What's great is that you have the choice between vegetarian and meat. The service was extremely friendly. We would eat there again at any time.

The food was really delicious, classic Asian cuisine with a modern interpretation. The service was okay, not bad but not particularly good either. What really bothered me was that it was extremely loud in the restaurant. It was well filled, as it should be on a Friday evening, but the background noise was so loud that it was hard to think about having a conversation at the table. It was very difficult to understand the other person and you had to concentrate hard to follow conversations. It's a shame, probably due to the modern and therefore spartan atmosphere in the restaurant. No niches, walls, balustrades or plants that could absorb sound. A pity. I won't be coming back here because for me, a good conversation is part of a good meal.

Really nice restaurant with a consistent and special style. Nicely located and easily accessible on foot. The food was really tasty and can only be recommended. I'm a really big fan of Vietnamese cuisine and I especially like Pho, which you can of course order really tasty in the restaurant of the same name. We even had hearts painted on our reservation sign :) I was very happy about that. Nice service, everything was great. Thank you for the lovely evening!

We have been eating at Pho 1990 for several years. We were last there on April 5, 2024. Unfortunately I have to adjust my review because of this. Prices have remained the same since 2023. That's a positive thing first. The restraunt has adjusted the portions for this. No. 33 for €22.90 Was served with sad bags of salad. Less than a handful. The duck was standard. The rice is also very little. I had a drink (Red Lips) for €6.50. The drink was fine. In summary, the restaurant decided not to adjust the prices, but to adjust the food. Unfortunately we won't be eating there anymore for the time being.

It's one of my favorite restaurants in Kiel and I've eaten here many times. Unfortunately, last time my friend's dish was way too spicy - but normally it's great! Since the renovation, it has become much more comfortable here.

The best duck ever! Ambience is a bit loud. Service very attentive. Menu sufficiently varied. We were very satisfied with 6 people.

Unfortunately there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of taste. I've never eaten a duck like this where there was so much gooey skin on it and it also had a strange aftertaste. Rice could definitely be better and the glass noodles and rice noodles were simply cooked and had a neutral taste. The side salad is not worth talking about. For an Asian snack bar, that would all be totally ok. but not acceptable in a restaurant for these prices

Really very tasty food, nice service. Table reservation was also uncomplicated, confirmation via email came straight away.

All in all just great, the service was very friendly, the food came quite quickly, fresh ingredients and super tasty. And at lunchtime the Pho 🍜 only costs €10.90 instead of €16.90. All in all very recommendable.

The restaurant is excellent! The spices in dish number 27 were perfectly balanced, the food came in record time, and the service was very friendly. What was particularly pleasant was that we were able to chat in peace after dinner, without interruptions from the staff. Overall the atmosphere was very nice and cozy!

At first glance the store looked very nice and inviting. With 8 people, we were very happy to be able to get a table on Sunday evening at short notice without reservations. Unfortunately, we were left sitting at the table for about 45 minutes (as was the neighboring table) before we spoke to a waiter and she then took care of us. The drinks again took quite a long time, but tasted very good (my personal recommendation are the two cocktails on the menu!). After some more waiting, the food finally arrived. We all enjoyed it, but it wasn't necessarily a highlight and for me it wasn't worth visiting again. For the normal prices, the portions were relatively small. Except for the very long waiting times, there were no deficiencies in terms of service. The shop and the toilet were clean!

We were there for the first time yesterday on February 7th, 2024. Unfortunately it was more of a disappointment. the duck (no. 33) was extremely fried and therefore tasteless/tough. In my opinion, the salad was bagged salad from Aldi without dressing. the rice ok... that's it. could come from a chip shop. It's a shame, especially since the atmosphere promised more.

Nice restaurant, with friendly staff. At No. 26, colorful vegetables with chicken, there were very few vegetables, the meat was also clear, the curry sauce had no kick. So the price-performance ratio wasn't right, at least for this dish. I'm disappointed! I think about the employee's statement "she didn't cook it."

Frisch, lecker und authentisch wie bei meiner vietnamesischen Schwiegermutter!

Das Essen war okay. Ich habe ein Mittagsmenü (bzw. laut Inhaber Mittagstisch, s.u.) bestellt. In anderen Restaurants gibt es eine Suppe oder Salat vorweg zum Mittagsmenü (oder Mittagstisch), manchmal sogar noch ein Getränk oder Nachtisch. Für einen Preis von ca. 13€ war das Essen nicht schlecht, aber auch nichts besonderes. Für meinen Geschmack etwas langweilig gewürzt für vietnamesisches Essen. Die Reisnudeln waren für meinen Geschmack etwas überkocht und schwierig zu Essen (mit Besteck, keine Stäbchen), da sie relativ kurz waren. Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis insgesamt passt aus meiner Sicht nicht ganz, da kenne ich zumindest bessere und günstigere Alternativen. Update auf Antwort des Betreibers: ------------------------------------ Danke für Ihren schnellen Kommentar auf meine Bewertung! Ggfs. habe ich mich tatsächlich verlesen, aber ich meine ich hätte ein Mittagsmenü bestellt. Davon abgesehen war die Portionsgröße für mich in Ordnung. Ich hätte mir für den Preis nur etwas mehr Würze, Aromen bzw. Umami gewünscht. Hier ist geschmacklich jedenfalls noch Luft nach oben. Mit Getränk liegt man preislich immerhin schon bei 17€, was ich für einen "Mittagstisch" schon ziemlich gehoben finde. Wäre wenigstens ein alkoholfreies Getränk inkludiert (z.B. ein warmer, grüner Tee) im Mittagstisch-Angebot, würde in meinen Augen zumindest das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis passen. So bleibe ich leider vorerst bei 3 Sternen. Vielleicht ändere ich die Bewertung nach oben, wenn ich nächstes Mal etwas anderes bestelle und positiv überrascht werde.
