Very good wine selection. The selection of vegetarian dishes could have been even larger, but these were also above the usual offering and very tasty. Very nice gastronomy and staff friendly and attentive. Prices are in the upper class and the portions are clear to normal. I only ate schnitzel with fries and salad (€24.80), which was very average. Fries were a little too brown. The process was also a bit tedious as we had to wait longer for the supplement. My apologies are that it was very busy and on Boxing Day. 09/12/24 This time a normal Saturday evening 6⁰⁰, the inn was well attended as usual. The waiter tried very hard and was at the limit of what was possible. A lack of staff is also a big issue here. The food was served around 6³⁰ p.m., I was pretty much the last to get my food at 8³⁰ p.m. This one is just too long for me. The food was very good👍.

I'm leaving a very negative review knowing that unfortunately I didn't have the chance to eat there. I just felt attacked by the way we were rather violently rejected when asking if they had a free table. I understand very well the rush of services and how difficult it can sometimes be for employees. I didn't ask for more than a simple, polite and courteous answer.

We arrived at 8:35 p.m. and a man who looked like the owner sent us away in a bad manner. To say that dinners are no longer served, you don't have to be so unpleasant. The waiter, however, was very friendly. I APOLOGIZE TO THE OWNER, BECAUSE IT WAS NOT HE WHO ATTENDED US, but, in my opinion, the fact that they were very busy does not justify the treatment received.

Experienced slow service and mediocre food. I have dined at several establishments in Gengenbach and this was the worst. Won't waste my time there again. Seems to be a distinct attitude against international tourists.

Unfortunately our visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment. The basic standards that one would expect from a restaurant were not met in any way. I ordered a steak medium, but it arrived bloody and completely unseasoned. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and the fries weren't salted either. The salad consisted of ready-made products that you would find in a bag. We had to pay 30 euros for this unsatisfactory menu - completely overpriced for what was on offer. We had to ask for salt and pepper three times before the waiter finally slammed both on the table with an unfriendly gesture. In every simple restaurant there is at least a bowl of water for the dog, especially in this heat - but this is far from the case here. The service overall was extremely unfriendly and arrogant. If we hadn't already ordered drinks, we would have left immediately. Of course there was no tip either.

The food was served to us quickly despite the beer garden being full. We had the onion roast once and the “Gengenbacher Ritterteller” (pork with spaetzle and fresh chanterelles) once. The food was excellent! The waiter tried very hard despite the full house. I recommend a reservation.

Had dinner there with family yesterday, it all took a bit long, but we still had time. What struck us was that the suspected (heavy) owner? Was rather rude to the staff. The staff did their very best, but there was quite a bit of tension, which was certainly noticeable among the guests. It's a shame because the dishes were excellent. I suspect that the boss has difficulty managing the pressure. Let's hope it was a bad day, otherwise I would advise to stop. Or as an owner, move more into the background. Location and food good. Service, waiting times and choleric behavior in the kitchen are unacceptable. We went to the pepper mill again. Was about half full. Service was completely overwhelmed, eternal waiting times for everything, we sat for almost 2 hours only with the main course. Food was good and nothing to complain about. The highlight was the screaming/arguing from the kitchen, which could be clearly heard all the way to the terrace - impossible. We canceled the pepper mill for ourselves.

The food is great, the price is what you expect for a decent restaurant in a touristic place. The service is present, but that does say all: plates are placed on the table without even looking at us, without saying a word. In our main dish (risotto) my wife had a piece of wood, WOOD! Mixed within the mushrooms. When we told the waitress she merely shrugged, said she would tell her colleagues and vaguely apologised. Check your dish twice!

A party's table captured the waiter's attention so much that unfortunately there was no time for another drink or even a dessert. Unfortunately, I also had to request payment several times! Upscale Baden cuisine, everything was very tasty, the porcini mushrooms were a real hit, value for money was right, courteous and attentive staff, well-located restaurant with an outdoor terrace in the middle of the town, parking available all around. We'd love to come back🤩

We did not find any lunch dishes on the menu. That's why we just wanted a drink. We sat on the terrace at a table without a tablecloth or placemat. There were only 2 paper mini napkins and a knife and fork. The clerk then asked us to sit at another table, which was not "set". And perhaps unnecessarily: there was only 1 table occupied on the entire terrace. With such stiff, unfriendly, inflexible service, I understand that there was not much customer here. In short: not recommended.

We were still at the Pfeffermühle with a larger group (17 people) around 9:30 p.m. Right from the start you had the feeling that you weren't really welcome, but you still wanted to take our sales with you. As expected, the service wasn't exactly friendly. Even when paying, we were politely told that there were several bars around the corner that would be a better fit. I think the innkeeper can be happy that there was some sales that evening. There will be no further visit...!

We waited 1 hour for the food. The service is very slow and the head waitress does not attend to you, even when you call her. Horrible, not recommended at all. We were there in August 2023 and a couple of weeks ago (April 2024) we received an email from Google (in German) saying that we had to check that we were on the site, because it appears that the owner has reported the review as false. Instead of improving service and treating customers well, instead of turning away when you say "excuse me" so they don't have to explain themselves, they report a review. Although it doesn't seem fair to me that Google does that, I sent them a "printscreen" of my banking app showing the payment to that establishment, so to speak. PLEASE AVOID this site. They give bad service and when you put it on the website, it is reported as a fake review. HORRIBLE place

The most disgusting soggy and full of oil schnitzel. Imagine if the cook took a dump, but worse, because even a dump on a plate would be better. The breading was BURNT, the salad that they serve with the schnitzel was disgustingly soggy and was pre-prepared like at least 2 hours ago. Also not to mention the customer service - obnoxious little ahh man that would bother you non-stop until you order or just be asked to leave. And the fact that they know English, but they won’t use it, unless you get irritated + NO English menu.

The employees are really rude. You can't serve dish for 30 euros or more and not having menus in english. The waiter who was serving us came three times for 1 minute to ask us if we are ready to order after we told him on the first time we came that we will call him when we are ready but he continued. The service was on really low level. The schnitzel was drowned in oil.

Food was very tasty. I can especially recommend the spaetzle. The price-performance ratio was okay due to the quality of the products. However, we only received the starter more than an hour after ordering. During this time, no waiter came and asked about our well-being. “Greetings from the kitchen / bread with spread” came 5 minutes before the starter. Update 04/22/24: Instead of taking constructive criticism to heart, an attempt is made to have bad reviews deleted because they are supposedly not constructive and genuine. This is how you can deal with criticism...

Anyone who has a small menu - insofar as the terminology applies here: the menu is written on a board that the customer can turn and turn to if he sits with his back to it -, small and mediocre portions, eternally long waiting times (beyond an hour) and an unfriendly waitress who makes no attempt to apologize in what is actually a really nice location will find what he is looking for here; but nothing for us.

We were 3 adults 2 children aged 14 and 9. Food was a disaster. Frozen tarte flambée twice. Grilled beef liver was burnt. I only got salad after I complained. And the rest wasn't any better. It was just bad for the money paid. The pictures on the homepage don't correspond to the food you get served. This review of mine is true. And I will not take back this review. It was my wife, my daughter and their children aged 9 and 14. And I know very well what I write and evaluate. I worked in the restaurant industry and as a chef for years. The terrace was almost empty, but we were not allowed to sit because we only wanted something to drink. Hostess is a terrible person. Other staff not helpful at all. Perhaps they are afraid of that terrible hostess.

I've been approached by Google to delete this review because they have been threatened by the establishment stating violated rights! I'm sure I can prove I was a client and that this is a genuine review maybe you should concentrate on improving than taking down negative comments - AVOID AVOID AVOID. Its clear from the comments below that the management of this establishment don't wish to improve (do you check the comments?). The service is absolutely terrible, we chatted with some German people beside us and they were appalled as well so maybe not just aimed at foreign people!? From coming in and receiving our meal was approximately 90 minutes. The waitress was turse and not friendly at all, I can see why people commented that they don't like foreigners visiting. I would expect a restaurant to be a most welcoming place to whomever the clientele whether they are foreign or local alike, unfortunately Gengenbach is a busy place so they will always get the foot fall.

The food was excellent as always! Very tasty and served quickly. The employee was very friendly, competent and attentive. As always, we felt very comfortable and are already looking forward to our next visit!

Unfortunately I have to confirm Nico's rating today. We waited 2 1/2 hours for our meal for the four of us. We just felt sorry for the waitress because she had to apologize to the guests for the organizational disaster… Everything was ok in terms of quality, but the landlord was completely hectic when making the reservation, that should have warned us…

We celebrated my 70th birthday in the room upstairs. The atmosphere is well maintained and you feel very comfortable. The tables were beautifully set. From white tablecloths to flowers and a printed menu for the day, everything was there. The champagne reception was carried out perfectly and the very tasty food came at the right time. All in all it was a perfectly organized day there. We would like to thank the nice young waiter who not only served us, but also looked after us very nicely. He was always present without being intrusive and gave everyone a smile.

We ate there at Fasent, you had to look for the liver on the plate and a small bowl of fried potatoes for 3 adults 🤦‍♀️. I would like to know if this small portion would be enough for someone else. Well, I don't believe it. And the prices are way too expensive,

If I can give less than 5 stars I will. This restaurant is not recommended for anyone who is too expensive. The portions are really for children. Nothing on the plate has anything to recommend it to everyone.

I spontaneously got a seat there at lunchtime on New Year's Day. The veal cheeks tasted sooooo delicious, as did the side dishes. The service was very good and the non-alcoholic aperitif too. I recommend this restaurant. Will come back.

Einer der schönste Orte in der Ortenau, immer ein Besuch wert, egal in welcher Jahreszeit.

Gemischte Eindrücke. Die Pfeffermühle ist bekannt für sehr gutes Essen und kompetente Bedienung. Am 2. Weihnachtsfeiertag wurden wir aber derbe enttäuscht. Wir waren mit der gesamten Familie (17 Personen) dort Mittag essen. Bis die ersten Getränke kamen, dauerte es über 20 Minuten. Bis dann das Essen kam. dauerte es noch länger. Nun zur Bewertung der Gerichte: - Beilagen-Salat: Billigster Eisbergsalat mit wässrigem, geschmacksneutralem Dressing. Einzige Zierde in diesem weißen Katzennapf war ein einzelnes Radiccio-Blatt. Solch ein Billigsalat gibt es nicht ein mal mehr in der Dorfkneipe. - Feldsalat: Für 9,80 € war dieser genauso geschmacksneutral und lieblos in einer weißen kleinen Schüssel angerichtet. Alleine die Speisenpräsentation ist seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr State of the Art. - Ritterteller: Fade abgeschmeckt, aber von den Zutaten her gute Qualität. Wenn dann nur die Beilagen nicht noch 20 Minuten hätten auf sich warten lassen und diese musste ich mir dann noch mit einem Familienmitglied am anderen Ende des Tisches teilen. Zudem wäre eine kleine Sauciere mit zusätzlicher Sauce wünschenswert gewesen. - Wiener Schnitzel: Ebenfalls fade, Beilagen kamen über 20 Minuten später - Am Zander gab es kein Makel. Auch das Kürbisrisotto hat wohl geschmeckt. Insgesamt verstehe ich nicht, dass man beide Etagen geöffnet haben muss, obwohl man kein Personal bekommt. 150 Gerichte bei Personalmangel und mit ungelernten Aushilfen zu beschicken, alle Achtung, das kann nur schief gehen. Ein weiterer Faux pas war, dass man noch ein Teil unserer Familie am Eingang zurecht wies, weil diese die Eingangstüre nicht schlossen. Das war aber nicht möglich, da sie keinen Platz hatten, richtig in den Gastraum einzutreten, da noch Gäste vor ihnen im Weg standen. Unfreundlichkeit zu Gästen ist ein absolutes No Go. In der Regel kann ich die Pfeffermühle sehr empfehlen, aber nicht zu solchen Stoßzeiten wie Feiertagen. Und ich hoffe, dass es bei zukünftigen Besuchen zu keinen Enttäuschungen mehr kommen wird. Und: Je teurer die Speisen, desto höher auch die Ansprüche an Geschmack, Qualität, Präsentation und Service.

What a lovely place and definitely give it a try. We did and everything was top! As far as we could see there are rather liquid deserts and our host delighted us with a range of beverages from his trolly that were indeed very good and quaffable. We tried the grappa and a schnapps which made us rock to this place even more.

Wir haben dort Gegessen Gaststätte faßt leer doch wir bekamen einen Platz nur im Außenbereich es war kühl. Es gibt andere Gaststätten im Ort Bedingungen O.K. Nächster Besuch wird eine andere Gaststätte besucht

Leckere Speisenauswahl auch für kurzentschlossene. Wir sind sehr begeistert von den Gerichten und man merkt das alles selbst gemacht ist. Leider war bei uns eine größere Gästegruppe vorrangig, so gab es bei uns deutlich Verzögerung in der Vorspeise und wieder beim Nachtisch. Leider gab es keine offene Rotweine. Somit musste man eine Flasche nehmen. Hier hat sich der Kellner bemüht eine 0,5 Liter Flasche zu finden die echt gut geschmeckt hat.

Total gemütlich. Der Service war durchgängig freundlich und zuvorkommend zu uns und den Kindern. Wir hatten eine Pommes, das Rumpsteak und die Wiener Schnitzel und alles hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir waren Freitag mittags da. Wartezeit war gering. Natürlich eine andere Preisklasse als McDonald's, aber unserer Meinung nach vollkommen zu Recht! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Wir waren gestern Mittag dort essen. Nettes Ambiente und der Service war auch freundlich. Der Salat hat sehr komisch gerochen. Das Hauptgericht hat an sich gut geschmeckt. Allerdings habe ich 30 min nach dem Essen Magenkrämpfe bekommen und mir ging es sehr schlecht.

Plats régionaux. Le service est un peu sérieux et pourrait sourire. Les maultaschen sont bien. La truite aux amandes est copieuse. Nous avons apprécié le Vin local.

Très mauvais service. 1h30 d'attente pour 2 tartes flambée qui sont arrivés 45 minutes après les plats de viande. Personnel désagréable. Pas avenant du tout. A éviter absolument.

Wir waren mit Freunden nicht das erste mal dort, doch diesmal war es so das wir uns überlegen nicht mehr hin zu gehen. Zum einen kam das Essen erst nach zwei Stunden trotz mehrmaligen Nachfragen! Es kamen nach uns Personen von vier Tischen die vor uns das Essen bekamen, geht gar nicht! Bei unseren Essen fehlten dann auch noch die Kartoffeln mit der Entschuldigung, der Koch hätte diese vergessen...usw sehr Schade für so ein Lokal.

Hier sind wir an unserem ersten Abend spontan eingekehrt weil uns die Lokalität von Außen sehr angesprochen hat. Der Außenbereich ist sehr ansprechend gestaltet. Man fühlt sich sehr heimelig. Die Creme vorab mit Brot war schon lecker und der Gruß aus der Küche mit frischem Focaccia und Schinken war auch sehr gut. Als Vorspeise hatten wir Vitello Tonnato und das war wirklich sehr gut. Das Beste, dass wir bisher gegessen habe. Als Hauptspeise hatte ich den Salat mit Hähnchen. Das Dressing war lecker und auch das Hähnchen dazu war gut allerdings hätte ich es gerne anders gebraten gehabt aber es war nicht trocken. Mein Partner hatte das Wiener Schnitzel. Es war für seinen Geschmack etwas zu lange in der Pfanne da die Pannade etwas dunkel war. Das Fleisch war aber nicht trocken.

Once we had ordered, we enjoyed a relaxed service with a pleasant front of house team. I can see other reviewers note issues with timing and we did wait some time to order (approx 40mins) and noticed some fellow customers also waiting a longer time than is typical. However, because we were happy to relax in the pretty environment this didn't spoil our enjoyment of the food.
