Oskar is located on Bayreuth's market square and is very popular. Therefore, it's advisable to reserve a table well in advance. Prices are reasonable. The staff is very friendly. Orders are taken quickly, and there's no long wait for food and drinks. The ambiance is very cozy. I can only say positive things about the food. It tastes really good.

The food is great, and so is the beer. They have homemade lemonade that you have to try. In summer, the outside area is always full. You can go for a walk and then come back and find a seat when it's free. We always go there to eat; it's a must for us when we're in Bayreuth. It's not that busy for no reason. You can't reserve a table outside. The plates are large, for big eaters 😂 They also serve all kinds of other drinks. The service is great; it's mostly students trying to earn some extra money.

Traditional German food in a pleasant setting, with in and outdoor options. The food is consistently good and we’ve always had excellent service. The Obadza is my favorite.

I recently visited Oskar's restaurant in Bayreuth, a charming wirtshaus located right in the heart of the city, in the historic old town hall. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic, with wood everywhere and a touch of Frankish charm that gives a real convivial atmosphere, without being too stuffy. It's ideal for a break after a stroll in the pedestrian zone. I opted for a classic Schäufele, cooked well and served with dumplings and sauerkraut – it was tasty, filling, and true to the local tradition, even if the presentation wasn't particularly sophisticated. The portions are generous, and the regional beers, such as a Bayreuther Hell, were cold and well drawn. The service was attentive and friendly, without fuss, and the prices reasonable for what we had (around €15-20 per main course). In short, a good place to enjoy authentic Frankish cuisine without pretension. I recommend it for a simple and satisfying meal, but if you're looking for something more refined, there may be better options elsewhere.

This place is AMAZING! I had the pork shoulder which was so juicy. The gravy was delicious and the sauerkraut was mild and tasty (my wife even tried it and liked it). Her dish was the schnitzel, which she upgraded (1€) to bratkartoffelen. It was thick and delicious and way more than she could eat. One of the best meals we have even eaten...and we've been living in Germany for almost 6 years. We tried to go around lunch time and couldn't get seated...but came back about 1500 and walked in and got seated immediately.

The finest Franconian cuisine. Bratwurst with sauerkraut, Schäufele (a kind of pork shoulder), and Obatzda (a kind of dumpling). Nothing is left to be desired, and everything is delicious. 😋

A typical, rustic inn with traditional cuisine and delicious beer, all at reasonable prices. The shoulder of pork with its crispy rind was excellent, and the roast pork is also highly recommended. We'll be happy to return next time we visit Bayreuth.

A very nice restaurant in a central location. Delicious shoulder of pork, good beer selection. One point deducted for the ambiance, as we sat in a rather large and noisy "hall" on our second visit.

I actually ordered a children's schnitzel. It was listed on the menu as €9.00, but they charged €14.50. It was a mini pork schnitzel with a few fries. Simply not recommended, as it was overpriced.

An institution in Bayreuth for many years now. The service is always prompt, sometimes even quite rustic. However, over the years, I've somehow gotten the feeling that the portions are getting smaller and smaller 🧐...?!? It's also strange that sometimes the food is served just two minutes after ordering. This destroys any illusion of fresh preparation... Overall, "Oskar" is a fixture in Bayreuth's dining scene - you somehow always end up there again... If the food were the main reason for a visit, however, I would prefer other restaurants.

Everything was excellent, from cheese spaetzle to sauerbraten in gingerbread sauce to schnitzel and salads. We were delighted. Also, the service was friendly. Kudos to the student from Düsseldorf, who was very friendly.

A Bayreuth institution. A lovely, rustic atmosphere with good beer and good food. There's also great outdoor seating on Maximilianstraße, if you can snag a spot. If you get hungry between meals, just order dumplings with sauce for a small fee. It's always a hit.

Very good food, beer, and wine, and very friendly service, even long after the performance at the Festspielhaus ended. Including alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and dessert, the price per person was €30-40. The only thing that would have been desirable was better music, so only 4 stars for the ambiance of this otherwise very, very beautiful old inn.

Here you can enjoy typical Franconian food and drinks. However, you should make a reservation. The service is always present and approachable. Our only complaint yesterday was the wait for our drinks – in 35-degree heat, it was a bit long. We were very satisfied with everything else.

The restaurant is certainly very good. We were there on a Monday lunchtime and had to wait 30 minutes for a table for two. So, it's better to make a reservation for lunch during the week as well.

We stumbled across this restaurant by chance while passing through. Given its location, you might think it's just a tourist trap, but the ambiance is beautiful and the food is excellent. The service was also perfect. We'd be happy to return if we get the chance.

It was really busy, which made it all the more surprising that the server (I think her name was Irina or something like that) remembered our order. The service overall was great. Fast, attentive, and very friendly. The food was also very good. The liver dumpling soup with pancake strips is especially recommended. Our verdict: absolutely recommended👍

A stylish inn in the center of Bayreuth, tastefully divided into several rooms. The waiters were all extremely friendly and attentive. The menu also impresses with its diverse cuisine, from traditional Franconian and Bavarian dishes to vegan options. And we really enjoyed the food. Definitely two thumbs up and a clear recommendation!

Late in the evening of July 18th, after a long dress rehearsal of the complete Walküre, I was still hungry, and after the official kitchen closing time, I was still supplied with Obadzda and drinks. Many thanks in general for the hospitality and support, and especially to Ms. Barah (did you read/spell that correctly?).
