Café Kraftraum in Bayreuth

I recently visited Café Kraftraum in Bayreuth, a small vegetarian and vegan café located on Sophienstrasse, right in the city center. The atmosphere is alternative and cozy, with vintage, slightly hipster decor that lends a relaxed and original feel, ideal for a quiet break or a weekend brunch. There's a lovely terrace for nice weather, and the interior is full of cozy nooks to sit in. The service is generally friendly and attentive, although during my visit, there was a bit of a wait as it was crowded. On the other hand, the portions aren't huge for the price (around €10-15 for a main course), and some dishes lack a bit of seasoning—it's good, but not memorable. Overall, it's a nice place if you're looking for authentic vegetarian food in a relaxed setting. It's worth a visit if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a detour.

Our food was forgotten. That can happen, but the waitress simply said, "You're on your own time and I have to work." It couldn't be more blunt. They were very skimping on the salad dressing, and the tables were quite close together. All in all, very disappointing.

The waitress initially assumed I didn't understand German and spoke to me in broken English—presumably because of my appearance. She just wanted to tell me that the table was reserved : )) It was also noticeable that so many tables were reserved at the same time. For guests who just want a quick coffee, a little more flexibility in the restaurant would be welcome.

Went here for a few drinks to end the night out. It's a fantastic spot on a very lovely street. Was a perfect place to sit and talk and enjoy the night.

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews, and our expectations were exceeded. A cozy terrace, delicious salads, and the service was excellent!

The furnishings seem crammed together, but even though nothing fits together, it somehow fits as a whole. The staff is very friendly. The brunch was very tasty, even though everything was purely vegetarian. However, there is no filter coffee, only coffee with disgusting crema. Therefore no full points.

Nice place. Lovely staff and accommodating. Just make sure to book a table as they seem to be very busy on weekends. Thanks for a nice experience.

Unfortunately, the service wasn't great. Averna and Ramazotti were already closed early Saturday evening.

"Hello, we'd like a table for two." "Do you have a reservation?" "No." "Then not." I've never experienced being turned away like this, even though the outdoor area wasn't full and there were several large tables with only one person sitting at them.

One of the few cafes in Bayreuth. The service was friendly but overbooked. Modern food and drinks. The table next to us arrived at 10:10 and wanted breakfast > breakfast was already sold out (according to the menu until 10:30) Okay, then we'll order a lunch dish > lunch orders only after 10:30 At 10:40, the waiter came and asked for our food order.

Unfriendly waitress. I just wanted a coffee, there were plenty of free tables, and she came back with the excuse that she was alone and couldn't serve inside or outside, so she was sent away! Simply useless for this job!

Cozy café with a lovely outdoor area and indoor seating. Restrooms are a bit small and cramped. Friendly, attentive service; I've only had one negative experience so far. It's particularly busy on weekends, so make a reservation in advance :) Particularly positive: Vegetarian dishes, cakes (some vegan options available), all of which are highly recommended! The coffee tastes delicious, and the price-performance ratio is completely justified. ☺️

Two of us arrived without a reservation. Some of the staff were very nice, others very rude, but the only seats available were in the sun. So we asked if we could pull a table about 2 meters to the side into the shade. We said we were only having breakfast and would then leave. The lady didn't even let me finish and said no, that's absolutely not possible. I asked for understanding again. Unfortunately, no chance. Very sad and very, very disappointed, we moved on. Rude. Never experienced anything like it before.

Great place for vegetarian food. I highly recommend it. One star deducted for the disproportionately high drink prices. If so, please at least offer cheap table water as an alternative...

The food on offer is absolutely positive! I love the pancakes! ❤️ It's also nice that you can sit outside in the sun or shade - whichever you prefer. Points deducted for the decor, which could use a complete overhaul. The restrooms are old, and the furniture has seen better days; everything is quite dark and, unfortunately, not very appealing or modern due to the intentional vintage look. I always sit outside; I don't come at all in the winter because I don't like the ambiance at all. A feast for the eyes 😉 It would also be great if breakfast was available all day, or at least until 2:00 PM. I've already arrived late twice here because I was at the gym beforehand. Otherwise, a gem for Bayreuth with its extensive vegetarian and vegan options ❤️❤️

Update: We went to the gym for breakfast again on Sunday (February 9, 2025) and discovered that the green dwarf (avocado and tomato toast) had been halved – but the price was the same. That's pretty cheeky. Further update: We were there again in April. The prices of the other breakfast options have increased. Breakfast for two is now more expensive, but hot drinks are no longer included. It's unbelievable how quickly the prices here have increased. You have to pay extra for oat milk. The herbal tea is DM's own brand and costs 3.50 per cup. Next time we'll pool our money and have brunch at home.

We've been regular customers at the Bayreuth gym for years. Unfortunately, we experienced the unfriendliness of the guests—from the likely new owners—who actually claimed they couldn't accommodate multiple guests at the same time and apparently didn't even think it necessary to suggest a creative alternative, like coming two hours later or something similar. We usually enjoyed coming to this place with a small group. That's now over for good—a shame, really.

A true "weight room" in every sense! The vegetarian menu offers a wide selection of original dishes with funny names. Everything there is extremely delicious, from breakfast to dinner. The spaetzle dishes are unique in Germany. My favorite is the "Wallie" dish. The decor is cozy, playful, and modern at the same time. The Primitivo (red wine) offered was delicious and easy to digest.

We spontaneously stopped in for breakfast and were surprised by how cute the dining room and menu were. There's something for every breakfast type, and we were very well looked after. The service was very friendly, attentive, quick, and flexible. Everything was freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The dining room and restrooms were very clean. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately, this isn't a proper café. They only serve instant coffee. Anything beyond the classic coffee drinks is unfortunately made with powder and white water.

Waren spontan hier frühstücken, da wir keine Lust hatten auf das Hotelfrühstück. Naja sind dort mit gemischten Meinungen raus. Meiner Freundin hat es geschmeckt, ich fand es Preisleistungsmässig nicht so toll. Das Gemüse beim Ei war zwar sichtbar angebraten, aber kalt (no-go). Preislich auch nicht gerechtfertigt. Die Zusammenstellung ist auch sehr "interessant". Tee auf welchem steht (mit 100 Grad) wird mit ca. 70-80 grad warmen Wasser serviert und dann noch über 4€. Das zieht sich leider durch die gesamte Erfahrung und alle Speisen. Würden nicht nochmals hin.

Fresh, imaginative, cozy. Not cheap. Unfortunately, it also takes a little longer - there are staff shortages everywhere.

We were a bit ignored by the waitress, even though it was only half full, but they were friendly. The food was great, as was the ambience. Mainly without meat, but delicious.

The service has been subpar for years now: today it's a sloppy millennial who the counter worker had to get away from his private phone conversation so that he could be approachable to customers. In contrast to the last visits, where you were assigned a table at the entrance, now "just somewhere without a reservation". After waiting for 10 minutes, I noticed that the other guests had also been waiting for a long time to order or cash in. Then it's better to take a strategic retreat before life passes you by and have an espresso in the cafeteria, where at least the portafilter machine is cleaned regularly.

My go-to alternative to Heimathafen and a really cool place to go to a cafe with friends in the afternoon or evening. Delicious food, good drinks, and plenty of board and card games. So you can definitely spend a long time there. Everything is a bit more expensive, but still highly recommended! Inside, there's a cozy couch corner, or if you're with a lot of people, there are plenty of tables and seating options.

It was my favorite café for a long time, until I had the feeling that the “mistakes” on the bills could no longer be a coincidence. When this was brought up, the owner reacted unfriendly. Bye weight room..

Cool ambiance, slow service, and flavorless food. The place was almost empty. We sat for 15 minutes before the waitresses came to our table, food took 40 minutes to come. We ordered dessert, and 15 min later, we asked for it, and they claimed it was not on the system. Then it took them 10 minutes to bring the cake. We asked to pay right away and the waiter said he would be back soon but it took him 15 more minutes to come back . Don't waste your afternoon.

The Café Kraftraum is a nice little cafe in the alley district of Bayreuth. The food is delicious and fresh, the staff are attentive and friendly. However, it would be nice if you didn't overdo the decoration with sprouts. You should make a reservation on the weekend.

The cheese spaetzle is awesome. Caution: Not for absolute meat freaks!

Great food (on a previous visit), place needs a new coat of paint inside & new chairs. Service unfortunately repeatedly less than inadequate. 5 people in the restaurant & 3 in service, at the entrance you are left standing for 5 minutes without saying hello. Dirty dishes on almost every table. After 15 minutes the coffee was still not at the table. While you're waiting you can at least watch the customers go in, get annoyed and leave again, which is somewhat entertaining.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about it as we only had a very short stay. The waitresses were very friendly.

Never! If there was the option of 0 stars, then definitely 0! RUDE STAFF! We spontaneously wanted to have breakfast there early. When we came in there was no MA to be found immediately. We then wanted to sit on free seats. There were 6 of us. A table was marked as "reserved" but of course we didn't use it. Since there weren't enough tables for us, we wanted to move another (unreserved) small table close to the large one. At that moment the waiter suddenly started talking to us incredibly stupidly. We weren't even sitting at the moment when he appeared out of nowhere and then spoke to us: "When you come in, say hello. It's not your living room that you move tables here. Have you even reserved and how many Are you guys? The tables are reserved." However, 1 larger & the smaller one had no Res.plate! Even if he did, why so snippy and in such a rude way? Is this how you treat guests? He also said to one of us why she was already taking off her jacket. Hello, is it still okay?! We weren't loud, rude, or intentionally doing anything wrong. 1. If I am a guest, the waiter should treat me politely and point out to me FRIENDLY that the tables were reserved (without marking in this case) 2. We did not meet the waiter immediately upon entry to ask about this or him to say "HELLO". Here, too, you can use an APPROPRIATE TONE to point out the tables that have been allocated or say that we are full, have no table, etc. As we all know, the tone makes the music! But don't scare guests away in this disgusting way! Apparently the store is doing so well that they can do without customers. After such interaction, we rejected the offer to distribute ourselves and left straight away. We will definitely NOT visit this cafe again. There was no friendly interaction, politeness or nice service for us! How bold do you want to be to ask a guest not to take off her jacket?! That is your decision and not that of an MA. Even other guests have i.d. I smiled for a moment and was ashamed of this MA's behavior. Never again in the weight room!!!

We had arranged to have breakfast with friends, and although we hadn't made a reservation we were given a table of up to . We were immediately told we only had so much time (.) There were 5 of us! Unfortunately service is totally unsuitable! Unfortunately, as in this store, there is a lack of competent people who convey friendliness and empathy to a customer! This restaurant reports the bad reviews on Google as "slander". They then disappear. The good reviews do not reflect reality! Absolutely dishonest and shabby behavior.

We've been to the weight room a few times... Today for breakfast, and it was delicious as always. The waitresses were super friendly and on the ball. The ambience is pleasant. The Café Kraftraum is really a small place where you can recharge your batteries a little. We'd love to come back.

I didn't want to crush everything possible at the Christmas market and decided to have soup. I really liked the tomato soup and the bread was excellent. I had a cappuccino and it was delicious with great foam. I thought the service was slower but nice, the atmosphere was friendly, I was pleasantly surprised, and the price was fine.

I've known the weight room for about 19 years now. Maybe even longer. Even though my visits are unfortunately few and far between now, I still enjoy visiting Upper Franconia's veggie oasis again and again. My recommendation: resting heart rate & beer of your choice, or a delicious kiwi smoothie (unfortunately these are no longer available at the moment, the staff has changed over the years). But I get nostalgic every time I think back to the kiwi smoothie from ~2005 or 2006. 🥳

A reservation is definitely an advantage as the café is very busy even during the week. The price-performance ratio is good. Tip: look at the menu on the website beforehand, as you have to read it carefully.

We went to this pretty nice coffee shop regularly for years. But unfortunately the prices rose disproportionately. To compensate, the portions and the food became smaller worse and the waitresses less friendly. We have decided to avoid this coffee in the future.

For an onion tart as a main course we got a piece that was equivalent to a small piece of cake. The operations are constantly changing, and are mostly unprofessional and unfriendly. There are other places where you are welcome as a guest and treated kindly.

At first the waitress couldn't adequately describe the composition of the cheesecake and explained that she didn't cook it, then she mixed up almost everything we ordered. Then we had to ask several times for the bill to be brought to us; they simply forgot about us. But the crowning glory of this circus was the statement that you can ONLY pay in cash, even though I never once paid with a card there. If I have the opportunity, I would ask the tax office to check this situation more closely, because we haven't seen the receipt either. I recommend avoiding this cafe, at least until the staff changes.

Worst service ever... that wasn't service, that was an adventure vacation in the worst sense! The cheesecake? A culinary disaster! But hey, the decoration was nice... at least it was eye-catching!

I love this cafe! It's something special, very cozy with healthy and really tasty food. I always come here when I visit my demented father in Bayreuth; There I recharge my batteries and fortify myself with good food. :)

We were there for lunch today. It has to be said that we have been good customers for many years! The waitress wanted to come back “immediately”, when this hadn’t happened after quite a long time, we asked politely, only to hear a snide “she has something else to do and we have to wait”. The sound makes the music - we are the last people who would put pressure on us when we are stressed, but you could also express yourself differently. When she finally came outside again after some time, she ignored us and visibly deliberately served guests who had arrived later. We then left and won't be coming back. It was now the end point of several recent bad experiences in the weight room. It's a shame, this used to be a very nice and good restaurant where we spent a lot of time and had nice celebrations.

A morning, nice weather. When asked whether we had reserved, I said no, why reserve, everything inside was free... The answer inside was only possible with a reservation and therefore we couldn't go in, I understand who would want to, at least not us. I've been there several times now and every time it's the same thing: staffing is too thin at peak times. One person in service is simply not enough. You sit around thirsty, you sit around hungry until someone flags you down to order. The food is then ok. Even when paying you have to ask twice and then finally someone comes. The same situation at all tables. It's a real shame, it had so much more potential.

I wouldn't recommend the spelled pancakes to anyone. I think it's a disgrace to charge so much for 2 greasy mini pancakes. The price-performance ratio is not right here. The yogurt with fruit is delicious and worth the money for the same price.

Went there three times within 3 days (breakfast, lunch and bar in the evening) and had a great experience each time. There is a very large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes, most of which are organic. The staff was also very friendly.🤝😌

Gehe oft und gerne hier her, wurde noch nie enttäuscht. Das Essen ist immer frisch und lecker zubereitet. Tolle und abwechslungsreiche Auswahl an vegetarischen und veganen Gerichten. Das Lokal hat ein tolles Ambiente, der Service ist ausgesprochen Nett und freundlich. Egal ob am Morgen, Mittags, am Nachmittag oder am Abend......hier fühle ich mich richtig wohl. Im Sommer kann man draußen sitzen, was auch sehr schön ist.
