Ontario - Canadian Steakhouse in Dresden

Rarely have I seen such friendly staff as there. Everyone is extremely courteous and knows how their job works. Food was great and the ambience was perfect too. Were there several times and would come back at any time.

Today we ate burgers, water buffalo and pastured beef. We really wanted to finish it because we just don't like pink meat. It was sometimes very raw. Didn't complain about it, it still worked, but it shouldn't happen. Then the citizens were confused. Simply put it there and we chose the right one based on the list of ingredients. The waiter even offered us an espresso to compensate for the pink meat, very good. But why only 3 stars? 1 star deduction for price/performance. Over €20 for a burger and the taste was ok. No longer. 2nd star deduction for the price of the mayo. €2 for a tablespoon of mayo is really cheeky. Calculate that straight away or just add it in. But something like that isn't okay, and it wasn't communicated. But at least great service and great ambience.

You don't have to say a word about the food - it's terribly bad. Quality of meat mediocre. Waiting time for dessert (cake) 30 minutes. ! With a bill of €120 for two you expect quality and service. Out of the question again.

One of the best restaurants I've had the pleasure of getting to know! The staff is super friendly and gives excellent advice! Individual requests are taken into account and it was a wonderful overall package! We are already looking forward to the next time!

Delicious food...well prepared...right next to the Frauenkirche. We sat outside...gorgeous. For dessert I had the creme brulee...size and tasty portion. The staff were very friendly.

There were six of us. We waited a long time for the food and the kitchen completely forgot about one meal. Last but not least, there was a fly in our soup.

The food is in a league of its own, everything tasted great and the steaks (flank and wagyu) were exactly as ordered. The side dishes also tasted great. The dessert is also highly recommended. The service provided by Mr. Eulenberger is particularly noteworthy. He knew exactly how to deal with us and our concerns. Very friendly and very attentive. Thank you again at this point. We would love to come back!!!

We spent a lovely afternoon on the terrace and enjoyed the view of the Frauenkirche - the lounge chairs offer a really great place to relax. The waiter was friendly and the service was okay overall. Unfortunately, there was a small misunderstanding when ordering a beer: no question was asked about the size, so we were simply served half a liter. Maybe that's a bit of our fault, but it would have been nice if people had asked questions here. However, the specialty coffee I ordered was disappointing. The cream was completely curdled, which you could see at first glance. Something like this shouldn't be served, especially at this price. So I didn't continue drinking the coffee, which was a shame because otherwise it could have been a nice visit. I hope that more attention is paid to the quality of the drinks here, because that was really a no-go.

Very bad food ! Steak 🥩 was hard like shoes some hard and not comestibles for animals ,the ribeye wasn’t a real ribeye , they explain that maybe someone in kitchen mistaken ! But the customer have to get best service and the meat should be change ! But for them it’s only profit they don’t care your experience even if you paid expensive! Shamful avoid by all meaning

My husband and I were in Ontario today for the first and not the last time ☺️ we had the dry aged porterhouse steak 🤤 super tasty and more than enough for two people 👍👍👍 I can only recommend it.

This restaurant left us with mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s a cozy and inviting place with a warm atmosphere and a nicely arranged interior — seemingly ideal for a relaxed, enjoyable dinner. On the other hand, organizational issues and service shortcomings noticeably affected the overall experience. We ordered the Rinderfilet, rib-eye steak, and French fries. The fries were genuinely delicious — crispy, fresh, lightly seasoned, and served at the perfect temperature. The steak looked very appetizing: beautifully presented, with a perfect sear on the edges. The first few bites, especially from the outer part, were delightful — tender meat, rich flavor, and a great balance of textures. Unfortunately, that initial enjoyment didn’t last. As we continued to eat, the meat became increasingly tough and flavorless, turning the dish into a disappointment. It honestly felt like we were eating two completely different steaks on the same plate. A major downside was the lack of sufficient staff. Guests who were waiting for a table or to be helped were gathering right next to our table, and at times there were more than ten people standing just a step away from us. This made it hard to enjoy the meal, as the constant presence of waiting guests felt invasive and distracting — more like sitting in a hallway than in a proper dining area. The total bill was €65. This restaurant clearly has potential — the food can be excellent — but it currently lacks attention to detail, especially in terms of service and consistency in food quality. We expected more, and unfortunately, left with less than we had hoped for.

Delicious, great ambience at the Frauenkirche... Great service, friendly but not intrusive...

I have never felt so comfortable in a restaurant. The staff here are extremely friendly and accommodating, orders are taken and served quickly. We had lobster soup with shrimp, saddle of elk with bacon beans and sweet potato fries, bison steak with Brussels sprouts and rosemary potatoes. The food was excellent and well seasoned, the meat was cooked to perfection. I would like to pay special attention to the drinks: the Brothers Toffee Apple Cider is a blast! It's really so delicious that we want to have it delivered to us online. The cocktail menu is also great! The cocktails range from classic to extravagant and unusual. The creations are incredibly tasty and absolutely reasonable in price. We had an absolutely lovely evening here. And of course we’d love to come back!

We were here for the third time because we think it's part of a visit to Dresden. The service was very friendly, the view was very good, all in all it's true, BUT the waiting time of about 1.5 hours after the starter for the main course isn't working at all. All the guests who came later and finished before us. We were simply forgotten. The waiter came at some point and said that he would check where our food was because he was uncomfortable and unfortunately that wasn't possible for the price we paid per person. The vegetarian options have also diminished greatly for the first time.

We have spent our New Year's Eve in Ontario for many years now. At the turn of the year 2024/2025 we were very disappointed. A meal was forgotten and a side dish was forgotten at a meal. Then the last round would be initiated at 1:30 a.m. and cashed in shortly before 2 a.m. We had to calculate our own bill. When we left, we read on the door that the restaurant was open until 3 a.m. We ate here again in March and have to say, much better. The service was friendly and competent. The service and food were again excellent. For this reason we are increasing the rating again.

We went here for a snack on a Saturday lunchtime after a visit to the Frauenkirche. We got a place straight away. The staff was very friendly and quick. Everything was very clean and tidy. The food and drinks were very fresh and tasty. Everything was good all around. Highly recommended and gladly again.

Ich empfehle hier sowohl eine Reservierung als auch viel Zeit einzuplanen! Wir haben knapp 2 Stunden dort verbracht, inkl. Hauptspeise/Nachspeise. Die Steaks waren extrem gut, es gibt rein gar nichts auszusetzen. Auch die Beilagen waren Mega, für meinen Geschmack ein bisschen zu wenig von der Menge her. Nachspeise wieder 10/10. Personal freundlich, nettes Ambiente. Beim nächsten Besuch in Dresden machen wir sicherlich wieder einen Abstecher ins Ontario!

Very well prepared food with tasty beer

Every steak had to be ordered with a side dish, everything even the herb butter costs 2 euros extra... with the side salad... I thought the steak was a side dish for 30 euros and had to be ordered for 6 euros then there were 3 leaves of spinach soaked in steak oil and 3 half mini tomatoes on the plate.. Disappointing...I then ordered a Caesar salad .. Salad came long after dinner with no dressing and no taste for 13 euros... I wanted to return it... it didn't work... I was then offered a cup of coffee... Sadness, no one sees me here anymore.

We chose this beautifully located restaurant to celebrate a high school graduation. Reserving a table online was seamless, and we received a friendly welcome. The service was prompt and polite, but lacking in empathy. There was no recommendation of current specials; a wine was recommended upon request and was acceptable. We were satisfied with the quality of the appetizers. The three main courses were extremely mediocre in taste, and the server didn't know the difference between medium rare and medium. At such a high price level, I expect a different level of quality. It's a shame.

Very nice lounge-like atmosphere, pleasant selection, very attentive service. Unfortunately the food couldn't keep up. It was simply not enough for the prices. The small portions were easy to manage and everyone was actually still a bit hungry afterward. At these prices you would expect hearty large portions. And the taste wasn't outstanding either. Unfortunately. It was probably a one-time visit for us.

Food was okay so far. Unfortunately, the service didn't pay attention to us and kept us waiting. I don't know that in Dresden.

Unfortunately, Ontario couldn't convince us at all today. Nevertheless, I give three stars because two years ago a very large group provided great service. The food was an absolute revelation. Everything was brought to the table very quickly. It was always ensured that drinks were there. So all around very successful. Unfortunately that wasn't the case today, although the tables were very limited. The food was okay, but the service was rather special. It felt like it took forever before our order was taken. In general, the service came across as rather unmotivated. I'm not sure if it's the service that didn't convince us as much with the food as it did two years ago. It's a shame, you can do better.

Rather average and too expensive for that. The tiramisu is underground and has nothing to do with tiramisu! Just google the recipe and ingredients, Mr. Chef ;)

Small portions for big money. Bison burger was lukewarm at best. We got ketchup and mayonnaise from the tube with our fries. There were two of us, so we were charged €2 four times. €8 for supermarket ketchup/mayo is a really steep number. The last time for us.

An absolutely recommended restaurant. It is beautifully located, right next to the Frauenkirche. The food is very tasty and the selection of drinks is huge. Even when we were told that the bison steak was tough (probably unlucky with the quality of the meat), the response was very exemplary and a replacement elk steak and a hot drink were served on the house. It's a little more expensive, but it was all worth it for us. I hope that we will be able to enjoy dining here again soon.

Das Essen war lecker und dem Preis angemessen, allerding war die Bedienung sehr langsam und wirkte überfordert. Beim Nachtisch gab es auch Probleme, es war aber gut das der Nachtisch dann nicht mit auf der Rechnung stand. An sich ein schöner Abend.

Für eine angeblich sehr gute Adresse in Dresden, war ich etwas enttäuscht! Die Steaks waren nicht gut temperiert und der bestellte Fisch zu fest im Fleisch. Die Bedienungen war überfordert. Das Ambiente war sehr schön, aber für die Preise kann man etwas anderes erwarten. Mir fehlte die Liebe zum Detail beim Anrichten der Speisen!

Egal wann oder zu welchem Anlass wir zu Gast sind oder waren: Ein Besuch ist immer verbunden mit der Garantie für freundlichen und kompetenten Service sowie hervorragende Speisen. Tolles Team, tolles Angebot - und da ist auch der finanzielle Aspekt in angemessenem Rahmen. Ganz nebenbei mein Tipp fürs Dessert: Probiert das Tiramisu - eine ganz eigene aber unglaublich leckere Interpretation.

We have to add to the bad reviews. The ambience and service made a good impression. We wanted to have some lunch and a coffee. After we had ordered two coffees and had already sunk 11.50 euros, I was about to leave. There was no glass of water with the coffee for 5.50 euros, which in my opinion would have been appropriate for the pricing. My wife wanted to eat something so she looked at the menu. Steak from 25 euros and only the rump steak toppings can be ordered for 5.90 extra. Well, close your eyes and get through it. By the way, steak and burger orders burger with beef patty and fries for 22 euros. Also a bottle of water because our throats were dry from the coffee. Gerolsteiner 0.7 l 6.90 euros. Well, it's somewhat normal, you would have to take out a loan for all other drinks. The food is coming. Rump steak is mini and a bit overdone. My wife didn't want to complain, I would have done it at that price. By the way, the salad came separately for 25 euros, only the rump steak was on the plate. I found that a bit strange. The burger was okay and the patty was reasonably juicy. But nothing extraordinary either. Fries were standard out of the bag. But the highlight was that I was given the mayonnaise in the tube. I haven't even had that at better snack bars. No bowl, nothing that could disguise the origin of the mayonnaise. Oh well. This was not my restaurant experience. Invoice ordered. 72.00 euros. Well paid tuition. We had lunch and dinner for 3 days. In the evening including drinks and nightcaps. This was by far the most expensive bill and the worst experience. Save your money and go eat somewhere else. Just my opinion

Ambiente war einfach toll. Essen sehr schmackhaft und ein ganz großes Lob an das Servicepersonal, besonders an unsere Bedienung Herr Eulenberger. Hier merkte man, daß er seinen Beruf mit Leib und Seele ausübt. Ganz großes Lob dafür!

Es war rundherum ein sehr angenehmer Abend. Die Atmosphäre, das Essen und der Service haben uns überzeugt.

Posto abbastanza carino, sedili comodi. Ordini e poi aspetti. Aspetti ed aspetti. Arriva l’ordinazione (tutto insieme, pane, il primo ed i secondo). Abbiamo pensato: “Per fortuna non abbiamo ordinato subito il dolce”. Chiediamo di portarci il burro. Arriva quando abbiamo terminato di mangiare.. Ordiniamo il dolce. Aspettiamo ed aspettiamo… . Forse dovevamo ordinarlo subito… stiamo per andare via mentre arriva il dolce! Abbastanza buono, ma oramai non riusciamo a godercelo. Prezzi normali. Servizio un po’ freddo.

Unfortunately I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The reception was extremely unfriendly and I have never experienced a piece of cake being touched with bare hands and handed directly to the customer. This was absolutely shocking and unacceptable to me. Hygiene and friendliness should be a given in the catering industry - both were missing here.

We are in Dresden for a few days over New Year's Eve and today we were at the "Ontario" for the third evening in a row. The quality, taste and preparation of the steaks are excellent. The service staff are always attentive, courteous and very friendly. The name “Steakhouse” definitely does what it promises here. Grade 1*. Clear recommendation!

We were there for dinner yesterday. The welcome was warm, relaxed and a bit of a joke. The beer came straight away and we were looking forward to a porterhouse steak...900-1200 grams. It also costs a bit. Unfortunately, the heat-resistant plate with the steak came cold, so the steak was only lukewarm. We complained to the nice waiter. I rejected the idea of ​​making it hot again because it would then be completely dry. Unfortunately, no discount was made. I would come back because of the service, but not because of the food.

We loved this place. The view on the church of our lady was a nice add on. The food was of high quality and obviously you pay the price. The service was one of the best we experienced in the whole town during our stay. Herr Dulat was amazing and made us feel special. We will be back.

I was deeply disappointed by the behavior of one of your staff members, a waiter between 30 and 35 years old, with short dark hair and two piercings in both ears. His demeanor was unprofessional and unwelcoming, displaying a dismissive attitude, barely responding to questions, and showing reluctance to assist us. When we attempted to place our orders, we were met with resistance and passive, almost provocative behavior, which made us feel uncomfortable despite behaving respectfully. Such conduct in a customer-facing role creates an uninviting atmosphere and reflects poorly on your establishment.

Das Ambiente ist sehr schön. Im Herzen der Stadt, hat man am Fenster einen herrlichen Blick auf die Frauenkirche. Das Essen war gut. Hatten das erste Mal Elch und Wasserbüffel gehabt, was allerdings etwas zu wenig temperiert war. Im Großen und Ganzen immer wieder einen Besuch wert.

Lustloses Personal und dann auch noch zu viel berechnet… Essen war aber sehr gut!

We had a really nice evening in this restaurant. The service was top notch. All questions were answered, all wishes fulfilled. The food was great, we've rarely eaten so well... we were completely satisfied. An absolute recommendation!!!

Never had a burger patty as dry as this, even though it was very thick. My dad had the fried white halibut fillet with spinach and rice. The taste wasn't bad, but the portion was so small that you should be ashamed to charge €25.50 for it. The same with the “Québec” stew. The taste was quite good but the portion was quite small. Service was very slow. Toilets are also not clean. Overall it's just overpriced and not worth it in my opinion.

By 10:00pm they are already closed.

Wir kommen jedes Jahr zweimal in dieses Restaurant und jedes mal ist es ein Erlebnis. Das Essen ist immer wieder gut und die Speisekarte wechselt auch. Das Personal ist immer wieder sehr freundlich und geduldig auch wenn das Restaurant gut besucht ist. Macht weiter so.

Ich war mit unserem Besuch im Ontario sehr zufrieden. Das Essen ist hervorragend und auch ausreichend, der Service super und die Kellner sehr nett. Ich würde jederzeit wieder hin gehen und kann es nur weiterempfehlen.

We ordered the Husky Punsch, which was especially delicious—moderately sweet with well-balanced spices. We also had the Rumpsteak 200g and Ofenkartoffel. I expected the Ofenkartoffel to be crispy baked potatoes, but they seemed more like boiled ones. However, the dish was very filling, and I couldn’t even try dessert as planned. My friend chose the Auf Zederholz gebratenes Lachsfilet, which was tasty as well, but the portion size was not very satisfying for her. When we arrived, there were no free tables, so we had to take a walk and come back later. However, the service was quite friendly and pleasant.

Service sehr bemüht und freundlich. Die Qualität des Essens ist absolut Touristenessen-Level. Fleisch trocken, Sossen und Dessert höchstens mittelmäßig. Schade bei dem Preis.

Vielen Dank für den angenehmen Heilligabend im Ontario. Trotz unserer Verspätung gab es keine Probleme mit unserer Reservierung, die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, das Essen - wie immer - sehr zu empfehlen. Besonders für uns das Filetsteak, aber auch der Salat mit dem Hähnchen sowie die Pasta. Es wurden sehr zuvorkommend Hinweise zum Essen gegeben und auch Sonderwünsche erfüllt. Das schöne Ambiente ist gastfreundlich gestaltet, einzig die Garderobe unten an der Treppe ist ungünstig platziert, da bei den derzeit dicken Jacken ein Durchgang erschwert ist. Der Restaurantbesuch hat uns einen schönen Abend gemacht. Toll ist auch die Nähe zur Frauenkirche.

The service is absolutely terrible, the gentleman is most unpleasant. The food was lost, but for the money you spend here, you can find much better somewhere else.

Wir wurden nach 1h gebeten den Tisch zu wechseln obwohl wir Monate im voraus reserviert haben. Die Beilagen zum Steak sind gemessen am Preis sehr klein. Das Steak und die Cocktails waren aber lecker auch wenn das Steak mehr Medium rare statt Medium war und man sowas schon von einen Steakhouse erwarten kann. Wir hoffen sehr, dass dies nur dem Adventstrubel zuzuschreiben ist denn sonst hat es uns immer sehr gefallen.

Wir hatten für vier Personen reserviert. Es hat alles gepasst. Das Essen war wie immer hervorragend und der Service ist höflich, nett und schnell. Bei unseren Dresden Aufenthalten gehört ein Besuch im Ontario zur Tradition.

Food is tasty but also a bit expensive. There were several of us and the kitchen reached its limits. Some of the food was no longer warm and the steaks weren't all done right through.

Very centrally located, cozy restaurant with nice service. Large selection of drinks, great selection of food - you can also put it together yourself with various side dishes and sauces. The food was really fantastic, beautifully prepared and very tasty 🤤 The prices are a bit higher, but that's completely fine for the types of meat on offer and is probably partly due to the location of the restaurant. This was certainly not our last visit, thank you!

The service is very nice. The food looks well prepared, but the taste leaves a lot to be desired. Hardly seasoned, the meat cold and very firm to the bite. So I wouldn't eat there again.
