Onkel Johnny’s Strandwirtschaft in Wenningstedt-Braderup (Sylt)

First of all, this isn't a restaurant in the true sense of the word, but rather a beach bar. If you've read and understood that correctly, you'll have better expectations of the food on offer. It's mostly frozen food, and you can tell. The staff is very attentive and friendly, but the price is clearly excessive for what's on offer, likely due to the property's spectacular location. However, since my focus on food is different, I wouldn't recommend it. The very loud music was also annoying.

This restaurant is beautifully located right on the beach. The service is friendly, but the food isn't worth the price. While they use fresh produce, they lack refinement. It's a real shame for such a lovely restaurant.

We were at Onkel Jonny today, which doesn't really deserve a star. The food was carelessly slapped onto the plate, and the ginger tea was mediocre. The service was unfriendly. I don't understand people like that. If they're not interested in their job, they should be sorting fruit and vegetables at Rewe, etc. I would understand if the customer was unfriendly, but even then, they should pull themselves together. We were friendly. The view is, of course, very nice, right on the beach. For me, it's definitely not my first choice on the island; there are much better options, especially for the price.

We had to cut short our visit there today because of unfriendly staff.

Very, very tasty and very attentive service. The location speaks for itself. Great ambiance. You can sit inside or outside...All in all, top-notch!

Great view! That alone is worth a visit. The staff are very friendly, but I didn't like the food at all. The fries that came with it were absolutely terrible, and I wasn't the only one who liked them...

During my stay on Sylt, I ate at Onkel Johnny's twice in the evening. Both times, the food was delicious and the portions were generous. The service was attentive and very friendly. The location right on the beach is incredibly beautiful. I'll be back when I'm on Sylt again.

We felt absolutely at home at Onkel Johnny's. The atmosphere is harmonious, the food is super delicious – whether it's currywurst, herring, or fillet steak – and the hosts are attentive, accommodating, and genuinely friendly. For us, there is no more honest, better location on Wenningstedt Beach. Please keep up the good work and don't lose it (like others unfortunately do).

We came here twice in one day: a quick break in the morning and a small snack in the afternoon. Super friendly and delicious, with exceptional service. We celebrated Bettina's birthday here and enjoyed the dune hike – with Uwe Düne and back along the beach.

Especially when the weather's nice, you can at least sit outside and enjoy the view of the sea. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. The only downside is that you have to walk a bit to get there.

You can do it, but Uncle Johnny can't even begin to keep up with the former institution, Wonnemeyer. Only the beautiful location remains...

A piece of happiness! Located right on the beach, but a little away from the hustle and bustle. That's why warm food is only available between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the winter months. Open all year round! Delicious food, super nice service, unique ambience. And dogs are also taken care of! You can return to civilization at night via the illuminated path to the campsite or simply along the waterfront! Your eyes adjust to the darkness and the lights of Wenningstedt guide you back.

We were absolutely thrilled! Super delicious food – great fresh cocktails offered as an aperitif. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, you immediately feel at home. Outside, typical Sylt in wind and weather. The service was warm and attentive, especially the children were looked after with drawing materials and nice sayings. The pirate ship in the sand is of course also a great way to pass the time while we had a drink. You can tell that people work here with passion. A clear recommendation – we will definitely be back and have already made a reservation!

Always happy, a visit to Sylt is a must stop at Johnny's beach bar. Today we had delicious beach spritz (passion fruit with secco) and potato pancakes with salmon. Plenty of salmon with a delicious side salad rounded off the generous main course. The service is very nice, attentive and accommodating. I'm looking forward to the next visit.

We had reserved a table for the evening on Easter Sunday. But unfortunately the service pointed out to us that the following things were out...among others. Duroc chop, lamb shank, roast beef and hamburger etc. are only available on the daily menu. What kind of planning is that, unfortunately there wasn't much left, especially if you don't like fish. We were completely disappointed and will not visit the restaurant again. That was different last year. Thank God there are other places.

A good menu, from soup to potato pancakes with salmon and burgers to fish dishes. The rice pudding seems to be very popular with guests ;-) I had a burger with fries, and both were delicious and made a generous portion. A great restaurant for watching the sunset, but also recommended any time of day. A reservation might be a good idea in the evening, as the restaurant is quite busy. I felt very comfortable thanks to the maritime ambiance and the friendly, attentive service. Found a new favorite place...

Like every year, after a long walk on the beach, we ate delicious fish and chips and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere there.

Very nicely decorated, quite comfortable seating and a somewhat tight but nice outdoor area with a great sea view. I can't say anything about the food, as we only had drinks, but what was brought past looked good, but was actually just an upscale form of fast food. Drinks were good, but also very expensive. The service was friendly but quite disorganized and seemed quite disoriented. So it's a nice location for a nice drink, but I wouldn't go there directly.

Thu. d. 4.7.24/3:00 p.m.: The former Wonnemeyers has now developed into a veritable beach restaurant. You either sit outside in the wind and weather or inside behind large windows. In any case, there is a view of the North Sea. The rustic-martime interior fits perfectly with the surroundings. The place was a little emptier than usual, probably because of the time of day. This meant the service was able to take care of us quickly and professionally. The Tataki from the U.S. The beef (€22) and the potato pancakes with salmon (€19) were nicely presented and tasted very good from the first to the last bite. 12/28/24/1:30 p.m.: Very well attended between the years. We are quickly maneuvered to a table that is already occupied. Two Sarti Rosa Spritz (€9) are quickly ordered - fruity, sparkling and refreshing. Since our table neighbors are leaving, the giant table is more suitable for a newly arrived group of seven people. We are happy to comply with the lively service and sit down at a workbench with another couple. No problem at all. The relaxed beach kiosk atmosphere makes it possible. But moving around also makes you hungry. The fish & chips (€24) are nice and hot and crispy. The cauliflower soup (€13.5) is nice and creamy, well seasoned and warms you up well. So, Uncle Johnny's has done really well and can be seen as a suitable successor to Wonnemeyer's beach kiosk. Hopefully the North Sea will allow the pile building to stand for a long time.

This beautiful wooden building is right next to the nudist with beach chair rental. There is a restaurant in the house and you can look out to the sea from the terrace. The wind from the North Sea and the long waves make the West Beach atmosphere a hotspot for kite surfers.

It was very warm, tasty and we feel the need to repeat it. Recommended by the parents who come here every summer, it was brilliant in the winter too!

Uncle Johnny's is located directly on the beach between Wenningstedt and Kampen. Comfortably furnished and with changing daily specials plus a regular menu with beach classics. Nice wine list. At peak times it can be really busy. Desche Behrens, one of the owners, also runs around the store happily and full of enthusiasm. Class! I'm always happy to come by for a glass of wine or a snack in the afternoon.

I can only recommend it. No negative impressions.

Our favorite regular beach location. We come very regularly and not without reason: It's always a warm welcome, the food is really tasty and we love the atmosphere there. It's informal here and everyone is welcome! The inside has become more and more comfortable over the years and the view of the sea is sensational! And it doesn't matter whether we sit outside or at our favorite table number 11.

Fantastic food and North German-friendly service, a fantastic view and enough free seats in late autumn. We went there twice and both times walked back through the sand full and satisfied.

View great, drinks and food delicious and prices fair. At first we were served very friendly. Then the shift changed and we were served by another lady. She came to us every 10 minutes to ask if we would like to order anything else. When I paid my bill and added a good tip (10%), no one thanked me. There was just a stupid saying that that would be the least. I will never forget this cheeky and incredibly unfriendly woman. 2/3 of us live here on Sylt. We will not visit this restaurant again.

We had a drink here. A deposit of 5 euros was required for the wine glass, which turned out to be made of plastic.

Average food at Sylter prices. Anyone expecting culinary highlights here will be disappointed. Service was nice and attentive. Portion of fish and chips for €24, sea buckthorn spritz for €11.50. Of course you also pay for a sea view.

It's worth coming here. Access via sandy dune paths is nice, but not easy for the disabled.

Super nice restaurant, here you can sit really nice and quietly right by the sea! No matter whether it was lunchtime or evening, whether inside or outside, we always found space and the ambience was always great. I think the menu is a bit manageable, but so far everything we've tried has tasted very good! Of course the prices are appropriate for the location, but I still think value for money is reasonable. I find it rather impractical for visitors who want to travel by car or bicycle, but if you live north in Wenningstedt it is within walking distance.

Unfortunately very hectic. Table reservations don't work, you still have to wait!? After being informed that the toilet rooms were massively dirty due to a "child's prank" (wet sand also on the door handles) no action was taken!!???

A reservation in advance is recommended. But it is not absolutely necessary if there is little traffic. The ambience is beautiful with a direct view of the beach and the North Sea. Homemade and with loving details.

The view of the beach, even from tables in the house, is hard to describe, but at least it is beautiful. The food is top class, the prices, well in the last 5 years they have adapted to the standard on Sylt. It might be almost doubled. The service is great until your waitress realizes that you pay by card and cannot leave a tip because it is simply not desired or possible to tip using a credit card here. This is not the case in all restaurants. In many restaurants this is possible and desired. I traveled all over Scandinavia this year without a single crown in my pocket. EVERYTHING is cashless, except for paying for washing machines at some campsites in Denmark. I had to buy crowns with my credit card. Back to Uncle Johnny in Wenningstedt, here on Sylt 2024 tips by card are not possible. After paying with card, there was no more word to be heard from the waitress, no thank you, no greeting, nothing. As I left, I said goodbye with a loud goodbye. The waitress ostentatiously turned around and didn't look at me anymore. That doesn't apply to all of Uncle Johnny's servants, but today with this person it really annoyed me. With a bill of €75... I understand that the waitress is entitled to a tip if the food and service was good, but I refuse to take a bag of money just for the tip in some places. There are other fantastic restaurants that I don't feel bad leaving.
