We were very satisfied. The food is good there. We combined it with a walk on the beach.

Since we'd gone for a walk after a late breakfast and weren't really hungry, we stopped there to have a shandy and a Veltins beer. The location was great. Lovely atmosphere, bright space. It's interesting that you can watch the kitchen staff at work. Plus, there's a nice view outside. It would certainly be a wonderful place to spend time in the summer. The only downside was that it was very, very cold whenever the door was open. But otherwise, we have no complaints, and I'm looking forward to our next visit, perhaps with a bit more appetite to conduct the taste test.

It was lovely here, the location is outstanding. We'd love to come back.

A Sylt vacation without a visit (or several!) to Uncle Johnny's is simply unthinkable! It's so cozy here and the food is so delicious. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

The four of us had a very nice evening at Uncle Johnny's - the food was very good and our server Piotrek took great care of us - we promised Piotrek we'd come back next year.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and have found our favorite spot on Sylt. Friendly staff, delicious food, and a beautiful view of the beach and the North Sea!

It's a great restaurant, right on the beach. The view of the sea, along with a delicious meal, is simply amazing. We'd love to come back.

We arrived at lunchtime, and it was still relatively empty. The drinks came quickly, but the food we ordered (currywurst, rice pudding, and the soup of the day, lentil soup) never arrived. After waiting 40 minutes, the waitress noticed that our receipt was missing. Not a word of regret or apology. We waited another 30 minutes, then the food arrived. Currywurst and other items were served around us, but we received nothing. The lentil soup for our 9-year-old daughter, which we had ordered 70 minutes earlier, was now sold out. When our food finally arrived, the lentil soup was replaced with millet curry soup without a word of explanation. Our daughter didn't like the soup. The rude waitress claimed that the lentil soup had already been sold out 70 minutes earlier. A blatant lie, because many tables around us were eating lentil soup. We will NEVER go to this restaurant again!

The restaurant's ambiance is appealing and the view is truly beautiful, but that's where the positive impressions unfortunately end. Our order was initially taken promptly, but after waiting for over 40 minutes, we were told it was "lost." After taking our order again, we had to wait another 30 minutes – a total of over an hour before anything was served. Meanwhile, guests who had arrived significantly later than us had already been served, eaten, and left the restaurant, while we were still waiting for our food. When the food finally arrived, we were told that one of the dishes we had ordered was no longer available – without any prior notice. Instead, a completely different substitute dish was served, which in no way matched our order. The service was also particularly negative: unfriendly, disinterested, and with an annoyed tone that makes any restaurant visit unpleasant. There was no trace of hospitality or service here. If you're happy to wait over an hour for your food, be treated rudely, and end up with something different than what you ordered, this might be the place for you. We definitely won't be back and can't recommend this restaurant in any way.

It is not only the setting right in the beach that makes the place special, it is also the atmosphere inside. From the layout to the design, the friendly staff and the great selection of food for everyone - for us it is a ‘must visit’ every time we are on Sylt. And, if you have a dog there is no issue to bring it inside, plus the restaurant is right on the dog beach, it does not get easier. See you next time.

We had two lovely evenings here on our Sylt vacation last year, with a stunning view of the beach and the sea. The food was excellent, and the service was also very good. A visit to Uncle Johnny's will definitely be a must on our next Sylt vacation.

I stopped by Uncle Johnny's after a short trip to the beach and ordered a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was very overpriced at €5.90, and drinks like Coke often cost €7. The staff weren't the most attentive, but I really liked the ambiance of the restroom.

The food was relatively tasty, but unfortunately, it lacked that certain something. The service was only really friendly towards the end, and they smiled for the first time – which made you feel a bit out of place at first. Otherwise, the shop is very nicely designed and has a great ambiance.

A lot of money for a lentil soup that's definitely not homemade. Even convenience stores, for example, don't have the roots diced so precisely. Not recommended!

The location is great. The food is a disaster.

The carrot and ginger soup of the day was good. The currywurst and gravy were very good, but the fries that came with it were subpar. Pale and tasteless. A real shame. A little more wind protection on the south side would have been nice. And the food almost flew off my fork. The service was excellent. 2025: Quality is good, but the prices are now borderline and exorbitant.

OnkelJonny's is a must. Very friendly staff, excellent food and service. They also have the best fries I've ever eaten. And the location is simply stunning.

💯 Points: The store was very busy at the beginning of September, and the service was fantastic, as usual. Friendly, funny, and competent... we recommend it and will be back.

After waiting for a quarter of an hour without any attention, we moved from the inside area to the outside, where we were served. The "Salt Marsh Lamb" was expensive, and half of it was so tough that it was inedible.

One of the most beautiful places on Sylt

We were there on a very windy day. The view of the sea was magnificent. It was a real cinema. The food is good, but not great for the price range. The service is excellent, very child-friendly and cheerful. The restaurant is rather expensive.

Stars are awarded for the ambiance, the cool setting, the location, and the service. Unfortunately, the food was nothing special. The catch of the day was swimming in grease on the plate, unfortunately tasteless; the bowl was tiny and unfortunately not particularly seasoned. Too bad

The sea view is beautiful. We shared the tapas plate; it was perfectly adequate for two people. 😋

A really nice opportunity to enjoy the beach, whether the weather is bad or good!

We went to Uncle Johnny's for dinner today, like every year! The ambiance is absolutely fantastic, and if you make a reservation early, you might be lucky enough to sit on the terrace... It's better not to go back because of the food! The burgers on the menu after 5 p.m. are just okay and don't really excite the kids. All I can say about my entrecoté is that it was a complete kitchen failure!!! Even on the second attempt, the kitchen only served an embarrassing dish! Very sad... But at least we didn't have to pay for this sloppy mess! I accepted the waiter's apology, but it's not his fault!! I hope the kitchen changes again next year; otherwise, there are plenty of alternatives on Sylt!

Highly recommended on warm summer days

We were on our way back from the Üwe Dune and ordered three drinks there: Hot chocolate, Double espresso, and Cappuccino (which unfortunately wasn't hot). I think €16.80 is a lot. Service was friendly.

The hamburgers taste really good. But the speed from ordering to serving takes an incredibly long time – and that has nothing to do with the fact that everything is freshly prepared. A little more organization would do this hamburger place good. And let's talk about the price: 12.50 for a small hamburger is really steep... But everyone has to decide for themselves.

Very tasty food, great ambiance, and a fantastic view of the sea from the terrace. The staff was attentive. You can also get dishes here that you won't find everywhere. We loved it!

We were there at the end of July 2025 and wanted a bite to eat. The daily special was available until 5 p.m. Even though it was 10 to 5 p.m., you couldn't order any of the food anymore. I then ordered grilled zucchini strips (there were 5 of them) in aioli sauce. It cost 18 euros. Two of the 5 zucchini strips were inedible (sour, oxalic acid). I told the waitress, and she just said, "You've almost eaten it all." We didn't want to make any money and just reported it. The only highlight was the super friendly lady at the reception who assigned the tables.

It's a shame...we've been there many times over the past two years and have enjoyed it. Now, unfortunately, we're just disappointed. For our dinner reservation for 10 people, we waited 50 minutes...no drink order; nothing. We really understand the staffing shortage, but drinks would have been nice. Unfortunately, the waiter was completely overwhelmed, and the manager wasn't very understanding. Got a burger today...sorry, but the fries were dark yellow and the burger really wasn't tasty. Bun, meatball, wilted lettuce, and ketchup! The price-performance ratio is unfortunately not good. Such a shame!!!!!! Update 2025: It can always get worse Bistro closes at 5:00 PM, dinner menu without burgers. In the entire three weeks, it hasn't been anywhere near full. Change the concept, and people will thank you with orders. Wonnemeyer has done it so well!

We were back at Onkel Jonny's today, eight weeks after our May visit, and were relatively disappointed with the food. Our favorite burger, in the new design, was disappointing after many years of good quality, as were the currywurst and French fries. Was the sauce still homemade? The fries, contrary to expectations, were also quite poor. A new kitchen team 🤔? What a shame, because we were so looking forward to this treat. Hopefully, it will be back; we'll try again in November...

We recently ate here with the family. Upon entering, we were greeted by an extremely rude waitress. Unfortunately, the service remained poor throughout our stay. Arrogance and rude replies were the only things we received. The food was also completely useless, inedible, and expensive! You must avoid this place!!!!!

Uncle Johnny's is a little difficult to reach. I find the access via the campsite and the dunes difficult. The food prices are too high, typical for Sylt. Drink prices are OK, and the service is good. A nice place to relax!

Unfriendly, arrogant service in the restaurant. The kiosk is completely understaffed during peak season. Long wait times, and then the fries are far too greasy and expensive. (Thrown in the fryer twice)

After a long walk along the beach from Wenningstedt to Kampen and back, this is the perfect place to stop, relax, and fill your stomach. I love eating the super delicious currywurst here with a cold beer. I highly recommend this place and would love to come back!

Mega burgers and spicy scampi! On the way from Kampen to Wenningstedt, you pass by Uncle Jonny's just before the end of your walk—or rather, you don't pass by because the food there is very good. The burger with fries and the spicy scampi were amazing. Piotreck, our charming waiter, looked after us very well. There are also blankets for the dogs to lie on. We'd love to come back. Why only four stars? Only as we were leaving did I discover two rat bait traps under the bench we were sitting on. Of course, as the dog's owner, I should have checked the place where it lay, but unfortunately, I didn't. Especially when the dog is lying under the bench and out of sight, you get a bad feeling when you leave the restaurant. I think this should be solved differently, even though I understand that something needs to be done about the rodents on the beach. Even if the bait is in the usual protective boxes... a Labby will certainly find ways to do it - after all, the restaurant is located right on the dog beach.

I would definitely recommend eating here. We had homemade fish and chips and rice pudding for our daughter, which was so big and delicious that we had it as dessert.

Unfortunately, my visit to this restaurant was overall very disappointing. Upon arrival, I noticed that the staff didn't seem particularly attentive or motivated—despite the fact that there were only a few customers and the restaurant seemed rather quiet. Nevertheless, it took an unusually long time for us to receive our drinks. The latte macchiato we ordered sat unattended on the kitchen counter for over five minutes before finally being brought to our table, lukewarm. The cappuccino was mostly foam and contained hardly any coffee—but still tasted okay. The cake didn't seem fresh either, but rather like a thawed convenience store product. What was particularly irritating was that you could see into the open kitchen, where the chefs were eating while the food was still being served. This didn't exactly give a professional or hygienic impression. In this context, the condition of the restrooms is also negative—they weren't particularly clean, which further worsened the already poor overall impression. In light of these experiences, the prices were absolutely unjustified. For this quality, service, and ambiance, the prices charged are significantly too high. Overall, it wasn't a successful visit – I would definitely not visit this restaurant again and unfortunately cannot recommend it to anyone.

Good food and wonderful atmosphere

It's really nice here, with a great view of the North Sea and delicious food. Prices are reasonable for Sylt, and the service is really attentive!

We had the currywurst and fish & chips. We would order both dishes again. The restaurant has a maritime decor, and the view of the North Sea is simply beautiful. We would come back. Unfortunately, we had no reception on site, and there was no guest Wi-Fi.

The food, in this case the entrecôte, was okay, but not a highlight. At our table, everything was eaten down to the last crumb, and we all felt like we'd had a bit less on our plates. The dish itself would have been ideal if it had been a little short on carbohydrates. The service was friendly, but not overly attentive. We'd still be happy to come back and try other dishes on the menu.

The service staff cannot be identified by their clothing. The service staff are very unfriendly. The service staff do not pay attention to hygiene. Ice cubes are offered from the container at the neighboring table, which the guest was just rummaging through with their hands. If you refuse, the server rolls their eyes. Other waiters walk past the table three or four times without asking if you want anything. The signage for the path through the campsite is very poor and barely visible.

Our staff consisted of two gentlemen, and they were super nice, attentive, and simply fantastic. The ambiance is fantastic, and we got a really nice table with our dog. Unfortunately, I have to deduct a star. My mother-in-law and I were looking forward to the herring, traditionally cooked. A disaster! The herring was great, but the "traditional" sauce was a complete mess of mayonnaise. Normally, you get a light yogurt sauce, whatever, but a light, creamy sauce. But here we only had plain mayonnaise. Absolutely terrible with the herring. That definitely needs improvement. The portion was absolutely sufficient, and my husband's fish and chips were excellent and also satisfying. So please try a different sauce with the herring, and you'll get 5* next time.

Great food in a great location!

A beach bar in a great, secluded location with spectacular sea views. Therefore, they charge restaurant prices, which can certainly be worthwhile. However, they overcharged for the kids' fish and chips. For €17.50, they served 3 (!) medium-sized pieces of battered cod, and the rest were fries. No dips, no garnish. A heartless disgrace for this price. 5 stars, however, for the friendly service.

Delicious steak at a fair price in a breathtaking setting!

First of all, this isn't a restaurant in the true sense of the word, but rather a beach bar. If you've read and understood that correctly, you'll have better expectations of the food on offer. It's mostly frozen food, and you can tell. The staff is very attentive and friendly, but the price is clearly excessive for what's on offer, likely due to the property's spectacular location. However, since my focus on food is different, I wouldn't recommend it. The very loud music was also annoying.

This restaurant is beautifully located right on the beach. The service is friendly, but the food isn't worth the price. While they use fresh produce, they lack refinement. It's a real shame for such a lovely restaurant.

We were at Onkel Jonny today, which doesn't really deserve a star. The food was carelessly slapped onto the plate, and the ginger tea was mediocre. The service was unfriendly. I don't understand people like that. If they're not interested in their job, they should be sorting fruit and vegetables at Rewe, etc. I would understand if the customer was unfriendly, but even then, they should pull themselves together. We were friendly. The view is, of course, very nice, right on the beach. For me, it's definitely not my first choice on the island; there are much better options, especially for the price.

During my stay on Sylt, I ate at Onkel Johnny's twice in the evening. Both times, the food was delicious and the portions were generous. The service was attentive and very friendly. The location right on the beach is incredibly beautiful. I'll be back when I'm on Sylt again.

We felt absolutely at home at Onkel Johnny's. The atmosphere is harmonious, the food is super delicious – whether it's currywurst, herring, or fillet steak – and the hosts are attentive, accommodating, and genuinely friendly. For us, there is no more honest, better location on Wenningstedt Beach. Please keep up the good work and don't lose it (like others unfortunately do).

We came here twice in one day: a quick break in the morning and a small snack in the afternoon. Super friendly and delicious, with exceptional service. We celebrated Bettina's birthday here and enjoyed the dune hike – with Uwe Düne and back along the beach.

Especially when the weather's nice, you can at least sit outside and enjoy the view of the sea. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. The only downside is that you have to walk a bit to get there.

You can do it, but Uncle Johnny can't even begin to keep up with the former institution, Wonnemeyer. Only the beautiful location remains...

A piece of happiness! Located right on the beach, but a little away from the hustle and bustle. That's why warm food is only available between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the winter months. Open all year round! Delicious food, super nice service, unique ambience. And dogs are also taken care of! You can return to civilization at night via the illuminated path to the campsite or simply along the waterfront! Your eyes adjust to the darkness and the lights of Wenningstedt guide you back.

Favorite place on the island. We will definitely come back

We were absolutely thrilled! Super delicious food – great fresh cocktails offered as an aperitif. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, you immediately feel at home. Outside, typical Sylt in wind and weather. The service was warm and attentive, especially the children were looked after with drawing materials and nice sayings. The pirate ship in the sand is of course also a great way to pass the time while we had a drink. You can tell that people work here with passion. A clear recommendation – we will definitely be back and have already made a reservation!

Always happy, a visit to Sylt is a must stop at Johnny's beach bar. Today we had delicious beach spritz (passion fruit with secco) and potato pancakes with salmon. Plenty of salmon with a delicious side salad rounded off the generous main course. The service is very nice, attentive and accommodating. I'm looking forward to the next visit.

We had reserved a table for the evening on Easter Sunday. But unfortunately the service pointed out to us that the following things were out...among others. Duroc chop, lamb shank, roast beef and hamburger etc. are only available on the daily menu. What kind of planning is that, unfortunately there wasn't much left, especially if you don't like fish. We were completely disappointed and will not visit the restaurant again. That was different last year. Thank God there are other places.
