In a super chilled atmosphere you get good, very tasty German cuisine at a very reasonable price. Despite the crowd, we got a seat and the food came very quickly. A little tip: it's better to reserve.

As "tourists" we visited Mainz and ended up hungry at Grandma Else's in the evening. Friendly welcome, nice little table, quick accommodation of our wishes and then really delicious food: one vegetarian, one something for the meat eater: both plentiful, well seasoned and nice to look at. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, we would love to come back!🫶🏼

Delicious burgers, crispy fries with homemade herb dip served quickly by friendly service staff. The decor lives up to the name of the restaurant. You immediately feel at home with Grandma Else. There were plenty of other delicious-sounding dishes on the menu that warranted another visit. 😋🤗

Were there twice - once outside at lunchtime in the summer and once inside in the winter. Ambience very nice, service good, food also great.

Had a very good meal there with our family. Friendly, attentive staff and good food at reasonable prices. We felt very comfortable in a nice atmosphere.

Unfortunately the visit disappointed us. Our drinks were brought to us 10 minutes after we received our food; and only because we asked about them again. The homemade chai latte was watery and bland. The hot chocolate was okay. The fried apple fritters had hardly any taste. Unfortunately we won't be coming back.

Very nicely decorated store with friendly service. Unfortunately, a massive deduction for the relationship between price and performance/quality. The roulade for almost €25 was barely edible and the sauce was completely over salted. It's a shame because we came based on a recommendation and everyone ordered the dish.

Going to the toilet shocked me, you definitely have to invest money to do it in a timely manner.

The concept is actually quite nice. But at grandma's the food was definitely better and the portions were bigger!!! Ordered a "normal" goulash and received a children's/seniors' portion... The spaetzle was well and the taste of the goulash was exactly the same... If the shop is supposed to remind you of grandma, then please also have decent portions and tasty ones! After all, prices are not without their price!!!

We spontaneously got a place for three people here. Had a delicious meal, which came quickly. Ordered from the autumn menu and were satisfied. I can only recommend it.

Beautiful shop in the heart of Mainz's old town. The Service super friendly. Prices are okay too. Fries were delicious. Unfortunately, the Spundekäs wasn't quite to my taste as there were too many pieces of pepper in it. Otherwise highly recommended

Been there for breakfast and dinner. Service attentive and overall excellent, food comes surprisingly quickly. Breakfast was great. I found the dinner - goulash with spaetzle - to be a bit lame and the dessert with cinnamon unfortunately didn't contain a noticeable amount of this, but all of this is complaining at a very high level. Price-performance ratio is also fair, so I definitely recommend it!

Völlig lustlose Bedienung in diesem Lokal ... Heute Abend betrat ich um 22.10 Uhr das Mainzer Lokal "Oma Else" um noch einen Wein zu trinken. Noch bevor ich mich setzen konnte, wurde ich von der Bedienung gleich darauf hingewiesen, dass nur noch eine halbe Stunde geöffnet sei. Zwei weitere Herren die gleich nach mir das Lokal betraten wurden ebenfalls so behandelt. Hinweis: die Öffnungszeit ist laut Website des Lokals Mittwochs bis 23.00 Uhr. Als ich mein Getränk bestellen wollte, hat mich die Bedienung ignoriert so dass ich selbst an die Theke gehen musste. Daraufhin wurde mir gesagt, ich solle mich setzen ... es käme gleich jemand an den Tisch. Als die Bedienung zu mir kam, habe ich ihr freundlich gesagt, dass ihr Verhalten nicht sehr kundenfreundlich sei und unhöflich gegenüber den Gästen sei. Daraufhin ging die Bedienung zurück hinter die Theke und verschwand dann in der Küche. Sofort kann ein junger Mann (Herr Krahl o.ä.) aus der Küche zu mir und stellte sich an meinen Tisch. Er fragte, ob ich gerade mit der Bedienung gesprochen habe. Das habe ich bejaht. Weitere Einzelheiten zum Gesprächsverlauf wollte er nicht wissen, sondern hat mich ultimativ zum Verlassen des Lokals aufgefordert. Was ich dann auch sofort getan habe! Offensichtlich haben die Mitarbeiter dieses Lokals kein Interesse daran, Gäste wie Kunden zu behandeln!

Had the pasta & ham/ bacon dish (sorry for my reductionist American description), a glass of the Sauvignon blanc, and an espresso. Everything was fantastic and that glass of wine is the best I’ve had in recent memory. Did not expect that from Germany but apparently Mainz is known for it. The service was delightful. I think her name was Peri (sorry for butchering the spelling of your name if you’re reading this) and she was very patient with all my American ass questions.

Not everything that is on the menu is always there. As a guest you should be flexible and then you won't be disappointed. Food was good and service was great. All in all we were very satisfied.

Mega delicious food and great service

The decor is Spartan and old-fashioned, but okay. The waitress kindly assigned us a seat and cleaned the table beforehand...that was promising. We were then presented with the menu and were able to study the limited offerings in peace. When it came time to order, the drama began, my two companions both chose the chicken breast in a cornflake coating with homemade fries, I wanted to order a juice goulash, which is on the menu, the waitress's answer was, goulash is out. ..at 1:15 p.m. that's a disgrace. So I also ordered the chicken breast. After about 10 minutes the food was served. All I can say about the food is that it was a disaster. The fries were inedible, they were greasy, soggy and simply tasted disgusting... I would say like old fat with an even nastier aftertaste. The chicken breast was well breaded, but unfortunately it also had an unacceptable disgusting aftertaste. The salad is served on the plate so that the dressing mixes with the soggy fries. When I had eaten a bite of each, the waitress asked us if everything was OK, I said no and said it was inedible, then the waitress offered me another meal or an espresso as compensation. I didn't want one or the other, because if you can't even make fries, you can't cook anything else. My companions ate some of the food with grumbling and left out most of the fries. Then it was time to pay and we were charged the full price of €62.10 for 3 dishes with drinks... in my opinion, an outrage. After a short banter at the table, my wife said that she would have paid less, but that wasn't the case. When she noticed it, she went to the counter and raised her objections again, but they were harshly rejected because the fat was changed every day and the boss had tried the fries and they tasted good. I don't want to repeat the rest of the wording now. My conclusion: One big catastrophe, anyone who describes the food as tasty should neither cook nor serve guests. In the smallest and shabbiest chip shop, I've never had anything like this come to my plate.

Small menu with not so fancy food. But everything was prepared extremely well and very tasty. The portions were also decent. It was our first but definitely not the last time we were there. Our children were completely thrilled.

We have been with you twice in the last 3 weeks. Both times the service was very friendly, but also very inattentive and slow. We sometimes sat for 20 minutes with empty glasses. There can be no question of being understaffed if the service staff can always find someone behind the counter to chat with.

Yesterday we were in Mainz to surprise a friend for her birthday. Before we started the actual event, we had a really good meal at Grandma Else's. Small and selected menu, but very tasty dishes and almost each of us ordered something different. The apple crumble was also amazing. Ambience very stylish, staff really nice, an all-round nice visit with you.

It's a shame... the soda was really good, but the staff was more than unfriendly, especially after complaining, they didn't respond confidently. Food initially cold, then warmed up in the microwave (without telling me, only when I asked) and then no longer available. We also had to wait more than 1.5 hours for the food, and another half an hour for the newly ordered dish. We're not going here anymore!

Very nicely located bistro on the edge of the old town. Service is quick and courteous. The food was mostly good, but not very “vegan-friendly”: there is a vegan breakfast, but (in 2024!!) no main course, and only the sandwich with sweet potato can be “veganized” – and that Unfortunately the taste was still very disappointing. Oh and fries cost 7.40 euros.

Although I pointed out several times, the beers were served below the filling line with a filling height of approx. 2 cm less.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of wasps outside that are very relaxed when it comes to eating. Otherwise you can sit quite comfortably outside in a pedestrian area. There is a large selection for breakfast.

Wow!! The salad with baked feta was delicious again. Also a great dressing and the waitress was super friendly even though people were waiting in line. I can also recommend lemonade with ginger. We'll come back when we're back in Mainz 😍

Unfortunately I have to add a negative review to yesterday's visit to this restaurant. The food didn't come to our table until after an hour on a Wednesday evening. Mind you for 1 burger and 1 salad and then both were a complete disappointment. Unfortunately, the meat was dry, the roll was rock hard, the fries weren't cooked through and the salad was too salty. At least the service tried very hard and apologized several times. Still no recommendation for this restaurant. Because there are far better ones in the immediate vicinity.

Grandma Else is in a very nice location. The connections are good. The ambience is slightly rustic, but it goes very well with the selection of food. The drink selection is good. Especially the homemade lemonade. The food we ordered was very tasty and good sized portions.

Grandma Else in Mainz. A lovingly furnished restaurant in Mainz's old town. The menu reads imaginatively. But, unfortunately, disillusionment follows... We had the warm lentil salad and the wasabi summer pasta with shrimp. Judging by what was served on the plate, it was by far the most expensive meal I've had in the last few months. 16.90 for a handful of lentils, 3 chicken breast strips are also charged at 4.50. The summer pasta was an homage to the bottle of soy sauce, I only found wasabi in the description, and the announced prawns, fried in batter, were added to the plate three at a time. Now you can't argue about taste, but anyone who knows something about cooking can quickly see through such experiments. Unfortunately, we found the service to be all the more poor. We got there at 9:30 p.m. and were assigned tables outside so we didn't have to walk so far. Before the food was served, it was decided to turn off the outside lighting for economic reasons. The bottom line is that 50.90 for two plates, a beer and a glass of juice was simply too expensive. We won't be coming back, it's a shame.

Das Restaurant konnte auf ganzer Linie überzeugen. Neben klassischen Gerichten gab es auch - insbesondere auf der Saisonkarte - moderne Kreationen. Das Ambiente, der Service und natürlich der Geschmack waren super!

The food was great. Just put the crumble in it. We were able to sit outside and people watch while waiting for the food. We'll definitely be back.

Really nice staff and good food. I tried their authentic dish and it was great. Just let them Know your preferences, for example, for me it was too salty and only the sauce was breaking the saltiness (anyway, I would prefer much less salt). Everything else is perfect. Prices are average.

They were ten people altogether. They did not have any spargel, it was7pm.so far enough. We ordered some other dishes, all various ones. Some of the items they did not have and just substituted instead. When the food arrived, it did not look appealing, resembled cheap cafe food. It was over priced, when we questioned the items, we were told it had been a busy day. All in all, never again.

We were there with several people. Reserved seats, unfortunately tables for 4, were not allowed to push together, which was a shame. Food tasted good, but nothing special. Prices were quite high, 2 schnitzels with chunky potato salad, 8 chunks and 1 slice of bread 16.50

Dry meat and little salt.. Hey people, We ate at this restaurant a few days ago based on the reviews and were rather disappointed. The service was friendly but also a bit uncertain. After a while of waiting, our order was finally taken. The drinks came quickly and we didn't have to wait long for the food. However, the spaetzle in the goulash was burnt and the meat was tough, dry and definitely not cooked with the sauce --> big negative point because you offer the dish as juice goulash! The ham noodles were missing any salt. It's perfectly fine if you use less salt, but none at all is stupid because you had to season it at least 3 times. You absolutely have to change these points, we definitely won't be back any time soon.

Auf dem 3-Brücken-Weg sind wir hier eingekehrt. Das Lokal hatte uns im Internet angesprochen. Irgendwie rutschte unsere Bestellung nach hinten und wir haben auf zweimalige Nachfrage die Gerichte erhalten. Schnitzel, Crumble und Röstbrot mit Avocado und Radieschen waren gut. Die Brotvariante "Frühling" war nicht ausgewogen, zu teuer: viel Sahnemerrettich und wenige "Fetzchen" Lachs.
