Well, classic tourist trap. Viennese schnitzel with fried potatoes 29.90. Probably not again...

It was pretty good but unfortunately it smelled really unpleasant.

We visited your restaurant a few weeks ago. The restaurant looks nice, and we expected a great Hamburg experience, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. Our visit was ruined by a waiter who only let us in after we promised to tip him. The service was poor, and we had to wait a long time for everything. While the food was decent, we were pressured to leave a larger tip than the waiter deserved. He even suggested we leave a €50 tip on a €140 bill. This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in your restaurant, as it damages your reputation. I visit Hamburg often but won’t be returning.

Echoing the same comments as Philo Ramen. You probably don’t want to come here if you look Asian. The first waitress looked at us and immediately shook her head and said something along the lines of she doesn’t serve minorities. The saving grace of this place was the kind older gentleman with a beard who decided to serve us instead. The labskaus was also good so if you don’t mind a little bit of xenophobia, it’s not bad.

Used to be great. Now it's awful. The menu is old online, and half of it's missing on the spot because the chef is no longer there. The unseasoned Labskaus with the skin on top was probably old. It's pretty embarrassing when you go there with customers. Never again!

I had booked a table and wanted to eat ice time with friends. It was always a blast at the old commercial. Now we were cheekily told that there hasn't been a dish like this for two months. In my opinion it is a disgrace for this long-standing establishment. I will no longer recommend the restaurant. The service was also very, very rude.

But a visit to Hamburg MUST be a visit to a real Hamburg entity. I then had the schnitzel and, as a fresh accompaniment, the cucumber salad. The latter was bombastically good. As if my grandma (God rest her soul) had made it for me herself. The schnitzel was what a great schnitzel should be. My companions also raved about their food (Labskaus, fish, etc.). The service was also very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, we were somehow overlooked in the last half hour. Order new drinks and/or bill? Temporarily out of service. But it was also quite crowded, so of course we understand. That's why 5 stars (and small mental deductions).

Today we went there with friends for kale. Not exactly cheap, but there was a small portion of kale, 4 small potatoes, cooked sausage, pork belly and smoked pork (for us it wasn't smoked pork 🤨). Not appropriate for the price. The service wasn't well received by everyone, but the fact that she was gossiping about us at the next table above us is not acceptable. For decency they could have waited until we had left. So a 🌟 from me, even if it is undeserved.

Personally I find the portions should be adapted for fit people, they were on the smaller side for me. Ambiance: The interior exudes old-world charm with wooden panels and maritime décor. It's like dining in a cozy maritime museum. Service: The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to guide you through the menu's curiosities. During peak hours, they might be busier than a sailor in a storm, so patience is key. Overall Experience: Dining at the Old Commercial Room is like taking a flavorful journey through Hamburg's history. It's a must-visit for those eager to experience local cuisine in a setting that whispers tales of the past.

Delicious food, reasonable prices, nice ambience and the friendly service makes up for the extensive menu... in any case a lovely evening.

So schlecht haben wir noch nie gegessen! Eigentlich kann man gar keinen Punkt geben, das Essen war unterirdisch! Bestellt haben wir Scholle Finkenwerder Art und Wiener Schnitzel (Kalb). Die Scholle war ganz tranig, nicht gewürzt und schmeckte als ob sie gefroren in die Fritteuse geworfen wurde. Die Salzkartoffeln dazu waren kalt. Das Schnitzel war nicht besser, ebenfalls aus der Fritteuse, papierdünn, zäh, dafür mit klebriger, dicker Panade. Ja, das Restaurant war einmal sehr schön mit gutem Essen. Leider hat wohl der Besitzer bzw. Betreiber gewechselt. Die Speisekarte ist nicht mehr die, die im Internet steht, sondern es gibt nur noch wenige (schlechte) Gerichte.

It's impressive how many celebrities are already there. That's why it's even more impressive how you treat the non-celebrity guest, warmly and appreciatively. The food is very good, a “must” for me when visiting Hamburg.

The cutter's plaice was perfect, the service was super attentive. The ambience is very exciting and exciting. But it's slowly wearing off. The Labskaus is a dream (if you like it and I do 😊) The only thing that was unpleasant was the female waiter because she constantly ran through the restaurant complaining loudly about other guests. But that didn't detract from our lovely evening.

We were there at the beginning of January with 13 people. The food took 40 minutes to arrive but was very good. The dining room was so cold that some guests had put on their winter jackets. Comfortable is something else. The lower part of the guest room smelled strongly of a toilet. Therefore only 2 stars. For a restaurant in this class Unacceptable. No recommendation.

Nice service, incredibly tasty Labskaus. We were there with a baby (family Christmas dinner) so the comment is that no strollers are allowed in. But the staff was very fond of children.

This location lives primarily from history. Labskaus is of course a must. It would have been nice for this dish to arrive at the table warm. Luckily there were 2 fried eggs on top, which kept it a little warm. The attitude of the employees is a bit invasive. Somehow that doesn't fit with the seemingly sophisticated location. For the schnitzel you also need good teeth or endurance. All in all: well meant, but one visit is enough for now.

We have been going here with larger groups with children for years. This year also with a baby. When making the reservation it was announced that children were not allowed. A sign at the entrance confirmed this. The assigned table was designed for adults only. The four of us then had to share three normal seats on the bench. The place setting for the child was not available and would only be brought shortly before the main course after repeated reminders. It was busy, the waitress seemed very stressed, but tried to remain friendly. The drink order was mixed up. The food tasted good, but only came after a very long wait and unfortunately only lukewarm. Too bad!

The food was good value for money and the atmosphere was very nice. Under normal circumstances this would be worth a solid 4 stars. Unfortunately the service was terrible. We hadn't made a reservation, but arrived around 4:30 p.m. and asked if there were free tables - there were until 6:15 p.m. I told them that we wanted to go to St. Michael's Church at 6 p.m. for worship and therefore it was definitely not necessary to use it until 6:15 p.m. Then the long wait began... Our food was finally served around 5:40 p.m. I would have expected the staff to either say that our schedule was extremely tight and difficult to achieve, or that the preparation would be much quicker.

Something different for us “country bumpkins”. The waitress could listen a little better. (Takes the order, has to ask several times and then gets a piece of paper and pen to write everything down). The food was good and plentiful.

Another Hamburg original! Here I ate some of the best kale ever! It's just a shame: it's served on a huge plate and unfortunately looks very puny. In my opinion the portion should be a lot bigger! 2 Stunden auf das Hauptgericht gewartet, Bedienung (Schwiegertochter des Inhabers…) hat uns mehrfach ihr Privatleben geklagt, zuvor telefonisch bestelltes Geburtstagsspecial wurde vergessen, Essen war ok aber überteuert, Rechnung kam erst nach dem 4. Mal anfragen, Bedienung hat sich dann nach diesem nicht geglückten Geburtstagsabend mehrfach bei den Gästen beschwert, dass sie dementsprechend kein Trinkgeld erhalten hat

Das Restaurant liegt direkt am Michel und hat ein uriges Ambiente, was man gesehen haben muss! Die Einrichtung erinnert an ein Schiff. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Essen und Getränke waren sehr lecker, jedoch etwas teurer, dafür qualitativ sehr hochwertig. Es gibt sehr viele Fischvariationen und relativ wenig ohne Fisch. Jedoch findet auch der nicht Fischesser eine tolle Currywurst. Jederzeit wieder.

A previously advertised traditional restaurant persuaded us to reserve a table. The service is a 6- Loud, unmistakable argument between the staff using terms like asshole... etc. which lasted throughout the evening... You can't beat the embarrassment and dubiousness of the entire evening. The food was ok so far. When 3 of us were served the food, the waitress told us that the 4th meal (eel) was no longer there... And no, we will not be entering this store again nor will we recommend it. The behavior of the staff was bottom drawer. We four guests noticed this and so did the other service staff. We were very disappointed: At reception they couldn't find our reservation, we waited over an hour for our food, my husband was served the wrong fish dish, it was burnt on one side, my Labskaus was only lukewarm, after complaining the boss was unreasonable and didn't accommodate us in any way, a shame !!That was our first and last visit!

It's a shame that tradition keeps this restaurant safe. I called yesterday, said my name and whether on Saturday... It doesn't get any better. The Old Commercial is a traditional Hamburg pub/restaurant where you should reserve in advance! For each table there is a list of celebrities who have already sat at that table. The menu has something for everyone. I had never eaten Labskaus before and I tried this traditional North German dish and really enjoyed it. Goed wonderfully with the cellar beer and the caraway digestive. The staff was extremely accommodating and the entire ambience very consistent. Extremely authentic.

We were here for dinner with 9 people on November 23rd, 2024. Having traveled from Hamburg and the surrounding area, we actually only came across this shop by Googling - and what luck! A wide variety of dishes were ordered, and of course the Labskaus had to be tried. Anyone who has ever done this at home will be blown away. No wonder that the OCR serves the best Labskaus - that's an announcement! The other dishes? Simply great: the currywurst? An absolute highlight – so good that even a Berliner would be jealous. The panfish? A revelation, especially with the best fried potatoes that have ever pleased our taste buds. (And we come from Hamburg, we know fried potatoes!) Honestly, the chef who made the fried potatoes not only knows what he's doing - he lives it. Even star chefs could train there. Further in the text: The veal schnitzel? Perfect. The roulades? A poem. We could go on raving forever, but we don't want to exaggerate... or do we? And now to the service: So friendly, fast and attentive on a Saturday evening – respect! So if you're in the area and don't eat here, you're missing out. Conclusion: We'll be back, whether with Google, compass or navigation.

Old Commercial Room.. what an experience! For the first time in my 43 years of life, I had the pleasure of being called anti-social by the staff at a restaurant, topped off by the offer to please lick my ass. If a restaurateur (supposedly the boss's daughter) reacts like this to the objectively expressed disappointment about portion sizes, I don't know what else to say. Except maybe that 8 of us left hungry after eating kale. There doesn't seem to be a single opinion that the price, portion and service don't fit here.

The food wasn't bad but the prices were high!

The food tastes good, you can't complain much. But unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right based on the amount of the portion. We had kale for €26.90. We couldn't get enough of it. The amount of meat was ok, the kale was saved. An additional side dish was caramelized potatoes. There were 4 mini potatoes. Unfortunately it's more of a decoration. When we asked the staff about it, we were personally treated very unfriendly by the boss. Although we remained friendly and only expressed our disappointment, she actually became really cheeky and insulted us with various A-words. We ordered the bill and left the restaurant in horror. We definitely won't come back. We have never experienced anything so outrageous. This seems to be a purely Tourie slap. Making sales without service and quality for guests who won't come back anyway. Addition: it's probably the boss's daughter, not the boss herself.

Escolhemos "Old country tomato cream soup", seguido de "Drei zarte glückstädter matjesfilets (herring filets)" e "Gegrilltes schottischen orkney lachsfilet (salmon)". De sobremesa, Hamburger rote grütze mit erdbeeren, eines kugel vanillaels und sausse. Porém, todos esses elogios se perdem quando a responsável (era uma senhora) em dar as boas vindas aos clientes não é adequada para a função! Sim, erramos em não ter feito uma reserva e não nos importaríamos de ser informados da impossibilidade de uma mesa...porém, fechar a cara e ser grosseira conosco ultrapassa todos os limites do "flairplay" que a função exige! Fomos salvo por um senhor que, ao nos perguntar e receber como respostra que não demoraríamos mais de 1h 30m em nossa refeição, nos arrumou uma excelente mesa...

Fui aquí con mis colegas locales, después de solicitar ”algo local”. Tenía repollo verde (Grünkohl) con manteca de cerdo y salchicha local, que era 10 / 10! No podría haber pedido más comida ni servicio. Lo único que separa 4/5 de 5/5 son las bebidas. Intenté un par, pero eso fue bastante malo. Eso no es necesariamente una culpa del restaurante, pero mi experiencia no fue 5 de 5. Pero aún así, recomendaría - y muy probablemente ir de nuevo cuando en la ciudad.

Really great! We ate very well, the price was completely okay for the quality of the food. The Labskaus and the warm smoked eel fillet were fantastic, the kale was too moist and too fine for my taste (originally from Kiel), but tasted good. The service was nice, not 100% organized and could have interacted a little more with the guests as it wasn't very busy before the evening business. As a guest in this atmosphere, you like to hear some information about the location. I would improve: The music (lounge music) didn't fit the restaurant at all. Of course, Hans Albers doesn't have to be on all day, but as an employee you don't hear the music anymore anyway. We know that ourselves. What didn't fit visually were the turquoise lanterns everywhere (beach bar?) and the other candles that looked like grave candles. I would go with something more rustic. All in all, we would be happy to come back and recommend you! What's also nice for us as a couple is that it's not a family restaurant and you can enjoy the food in peace. Even adults need a break sometimes :)

Wir waren gerade da, das Lokal ist super. In einer Art und Weise urig, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Der Labskaus war ein Gedicht und auch die rote Grütze war ein Traum. Was sehr hervorzuheben ist, ist die wirklich nette Bedienung (Charis steht auf der Rechnung). Sollte überall so sein. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The truth? Everything excellent. I have never rated a place 5/5 but the atmosphere is very warm, old, but super neat and clean. The waiters were very cordial in trying to explain the dishes to me in English, how they were prepared and the origin. And the food was spectacular, the eel soup had an incredible aroma and perfume and the Labskaus was really delicious and abundant.

We had a reservation for 8 people at 7pm. Everyone was on time - only the waiters didn't want to talk to us. We waited 30 minutes for the cards and only then were our drink requests accepted. We had our drinks at around 7:50 p.m. and our food at around 8:30 p.m. If we hadn't been with guests, I would have left within the first half hour. The food was good and plentiful - but it's too expensive even for Hamburg standards. The restaurant lives from its history, the photos and the ambience - it does not live from its service. Overall, it was too loud and dark for me, but that could have been passed off as quaint. Overall, an evening that I don't need to repeat.

Wow…it was fun here. Right next to the Michel, pure tradition in Hamburg. The food is very good, for me it could be a little more, but that is always in the interests of the beholder. I really liked the Old Commercial Room in Hamburg. Despite being almost overcrowded, the very friendly service managed to organize two more places. And the food, lobster soup and rennets with fried potatoes, was first class. And I also enjoyed the Ratshetren beer. The Old Commercial Room will be a stop for me again on my next visit to Hamburg. 😉

It was a lovely evening that we enjoyed as a group with good food and drinks. The prices are already a little higher. But if the waiter, in the Greek style, asks for a final drink like Obstler or Ouzo, I don't expect to find the schnapps on the bill afterwards. Maybe my mistake.

The most important item on the agenda for a visit to Hamburg: Eat Labskaus here!!! (and nowhere else) ....and a freshly tapped Jever. Hanseatic, middle-class atmosphere. Old school. More courteous service until 2023 ....now, 2024, under new management and new service employees who still have to internalize the former Hanseatic understatement: (♤ Male waitress in cargo shorts? ♤ Claiming to be able to remember the order without a notepad as a service person and then bringing it incorrectly - ok, there were 13 of us this time. ♤ Do office work at the restaurant table by telephone using a speakerphone while the guests sit at the next table ...) And that's not the only reason why it's a star deduction compared to before, when I was often a guest there alone or in a group.

Fascinating and impressive rooms. The food was okay (my Labskaus was very good, my wife's kale with smoked pork didn't necessarily need to be repeated). Furthermore, the service seemed very stressed, there was an unusually long wait for menus and finally for the bill.

Food ok, fish unfortunately dry. We ate there on each of the last 3 annual visits to Hamburg. But to be thrown out by a waitress just because we had our 10-month-old baby with us, who got a little restless at the end of the meal (5 p.m., almost empty shop), is really the height and a big cheek! We definitely won't be coming back!! Conclusion: People with children are not welcome here.

Quaint restaurant with a lot of history, super friendly and fast service and incredibly good food! Real insider tip. Gladly again at any time

I recently visited this restaurant after hearing about their renowned Labskaus. Upon arrival, I waited a few minutes before a waitress approached. I politely asked in German if it would be possible to eat at that time. To my surprise, she responded coldly with, "Absolutely no way," and turned away without further explanation. I was left shocked and unsure of how to react to such a dismissive reception. While I was gathering my thoughts, I overheard her exchanging xenophobic comments with her colleague about me being French. This made the experience even more uncomfortable. Her colleague eventually came over, and informed me that the restaurant was fully booked, which was confusing given that most of the tables were empty. Having visited hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants in my life—including during my time as a food blogger—I cannot remember having been treated so poorly. The behavior of the first waitress was unprofessional and unacceptable, and it’s clear to me that she is absolutely not suited for a role in the service industry. I would recommend going instead to the nearby Krameramtsstuben, which is both charming and where I was welcomed warmly, despite their restaurant being much busier than this one.

Our visit to the Old Commercial Room was an experience in itself. A great atmosphere, very friendly and motivated staff. The food, just great. Price-performance ratio unbeatable. We had nice conversations and immediately felt warmly welcomed. We found the Traditions Restaurant by chance and would highly recommend a visit to the Old Commercial Room to anyone staying in Hamburg. We would love to come here again next time we visit Hamburg.

Great rustic atmosphere, the walls full of celebrity guests who have already been there. The Labskaus is simply delicious
