Very nice location, very tasty food (my favorite: Scholle Finkenwerder style) and good draft beer. Also an interesting wine list. Smart service.

A previously advertised traditional restaurant persuaded us to reserve a table. The service is a 6- Loud, unmistakable argument between the staff using terms like asshole... etc. which lasted throughout the evening... You can't beat the embarrassment and dubiousness of the entire evening. The food was ok so far. When 3 of us were served the food, the waitress told us that the 4th meal (eel) was no longer there... And no, we will not be entering this store again nor will we recommend it. The behavior of the staff was bottom drawer. We four guests noticed this and so did the other service staff. It's a shame, Ms. Rausch

We were very disappointed: At reception they couldn't find our reservation, we waited over an hour for our food, my husband was served the wrong fish dish, it was burnt on one side, my Labskaus was only lukewarm, after complaining the boss was unreasonable and didn't accommodate us in any way, a shame !!That was our first and last visit!

It's a shame that tradition keeps this restaurant safe. I called yesterday, said my name and whether on Saturday... I couldn't even finish the sentence and state my request when the friendly gentleman on the phone said: No, we don't. Not even a goodbye or anything like that... sad and really a shame!

It doesn't get any better. The Old Commercial is a traditional Hamburg pub/restaurant where you should reserve in advance! For each table there is a list of celebrities who have already sat at that table. The menu has something for everyone. I had never eaten Labskaus before and I tried this traditional North German dish and really enjoyed it. Goed wonderfully with the cellar beer and the caraway digestive. The staff was extremely accommodating and the entire ambience very consistent. Extremely authentic.

We were here for dinner with 9 people on November 23rd, 2024. Having traveled from Hamburg and the surrounding area, we actually only came across this shop by Googling - and what luck! A wide variety of dishes were ordered, and of course the Labskaus had to be tried. Anyone who has ever done this at home will be blown away. No wonder that the OCR serves the best Labskaus - that's an announcement! The other dishes? Simply great: the currywurst? An absolute highlight – so good that even a Berliner would be jealous. The panfish? A revelation, especially with the best fried potatoes that have ever pleased our taste buds. (And we come from Hamburg, we know fried potatoes!) Honestly, the chef who made the fried potatoes not only knows what he's doing - he lives it. Even star chefs could train there. Further in the text: The veal schnitzel? Perfect. The roulades? A poem. We could go on raving forever, but we don't want to exaggerate... or do we? And now to the service: So friendly, fast and attentive on a Saturday evening – respect! So if you're in the area and don't eat here, you're missing out. Conclusion: We'll be back, whether with Google, compass or navigation.

Old Commercial Room.. what an experience! For the first time in my 43 years of life, I had the pleasure of being called anti-social by the staff at a restaurant, topped off by the offer to please lick my ass. If a restaurateur (supposedly the boss's daughter) reacts like this to the objectively expressed disappointment about portion sizes, I don't know what else to say. Except maybe that 8 of us left hungry after eating kale. There doesn't seem to be a single opinion that the price, portion and service don't fit here.

The food tastes good, you can't complain much. But unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right based on the amount of the portion. We had kale for €26.90. We couldn't get enough of it. The amount of meat was ok, the kale was saved. An additional side dish was caramelized potatoes. There were 4 mini potatoes. Unfortunately it's more of a decoration. When we asked the staff about it, we were personally treated very unfriendly by the boss. Although we remained friendly and only expressed our disappointment, she actually became really cheeky and insulted us with various A-words. We ordered the bill and left the restaurant in horror. We definitely won't come back. We have never experienced anything so outrageous. This seems to be a purely Tourie slap. Making sales without service and quality for guests who won't come back anyway. Addition: it's probably the boss's daughter, not the boss herself.

Today someone seemed to be missing from service, unfortunately everyone noticed. It wasn't all that bad, but sorry, the whole restaurant smelled like toilet stone 🫣

O local é impecável, localizado em frente à histórica e renomada Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis e o restaurante decorado elegantemente e de forma charmosa e aconchegante sem falar de sua culinária refinada e muito saborosa. Escolhemos "Old country tomato cream soup", seguido de "Drei zarte glückstädter matjesfilets (herring filets)" e "Gegrilltes schottischen orkney lachsfilet (salmon)". De sobremesa, Hamburger rote grütze mit erdbeeren, eines kugel vanillaels und sausse. Porém, todos esses elogios se perdem quando a responsável (era uma senhora) em dar as boas vindas aos clientes não é adequada para a função! Sim, erramos em não ter feito uma reserva e não nos importaríamos de ser informados da impossibilidade de uma mesa...porém, fechar a cara e ser grosseira conosco ultrapassa todos os limites do "flairplay" que a função exige! Fomos salvo por um senhor que, ao nos perguntar e receber como respostra que não demoraríamos mais de 1h 30m em nossa refeição, nos arrumou uma excelente mesa...

Fui aquí con mis colegas locales, después de solicitar ”algo local”. Tenía repollo verde (Grünkohl) con manteca de cerdo y salchicha local, que era 10 / 10! No podría haber pedido más comida ni servicio. Lo único que separa 4/5 de 5/5 son las bebidas. Intenté un par, pero eso fue bastante malo. Eso no es necesariamente una culpa del restaurante, pero mi experiencia no fue 5 de 5. Pero aún así, recomendaría - y muy probablemente ir de nuevo cuando en la ciudad.

Really great! We ate very well, the price was completely okay for the quality of the food. The Labskaus and the warm smoked eel fillet were fantastic, the kale was too moist and too fine for my taste (originally from Kiel), but tasted good. The service was nice, not 100% organized and could have interacted a little more with the guests as it wasn't very busy before the evening business. As a guest in this atmosphere, you like to hear some information about the location. I would improve: The music (lounge music) didn't fit the restaurant at all. Of course, Hans Albers doesn't have to be on all day, but as an employee you don't hear the music anymore anyway. We know that ourselves. What didn't fit visually were the turquoise lanterns everywhere (beach bar?) and the other candles that looked like grave candles. I would go with something more rustic. All in all, we would be happy to come back and recommend you! What's also nice for us as a couple is that it's not a family restaurant and you can enjoy the food in peace. Even adults need a break sometimes :)

Wir waren gerade da, das Lokal ist super. In einer Art und Weise urig, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Der Labskaus war ein Gedicht und auch die rote Grütze war ein Traum. Was sehr hervorzuheben ist, ist die wirklich nette Bedienung (Charis steht auf der Rechnung). Sollte überall so sein. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

We loved being taken here by my sister in law when visitingfrom nz. The food and atmosphere are great. My sister in law also took a from ours who was in Germany to visit her son. She also loved the food and atmosphere as much as we did.

The truth? Everything excellent. I have never rated a place 5/5 but the atmosphere is very warm, old, but super neat and clean. The waiters were very cordial in trying to explain the dishes to me in English, how they were prepared and the origin. And the food was spectacular, the eel soup had an incredible aroma and perfume and the Labskaus was really delicious and abundant.

We had a reservation for 8 people at 7pm. Everyone was on time - only the waiters didn't want to talk to us. We waited 30 minutes for the cards and only then were our drink requests accepted. We had our drinks at around 7:50 p.m. and our food at around 8:30 p.m. If we hadn't been with guests, I would have left within the first half hour. The food was good and plentiful - but it's too expensive even for Hamburg standards. The restaurant lives from its history, the photos and the ambience - it does not live from its service. Overall, it was too loud and dark for me, but that could have been passed off as quaint. Overall, an evening that I don't need to repeat.

Wow…it was fun here. Right next to the Michel, pure tradition in Hamburg. The food is very good, for me it could be a little more, but that is always in the interests of the beholder. I really liked the Old Commercial Room in Hamburg. Despite being almost overcrowded, the very friendly service managed to organize two more places. And the food, lobster soup and rennets with fried potatoes, was first class. And I also enjoyed the Ratshetren beer. The Old Commercial Room will be a stop for me again on my next visit to Hamburg. 😉

It was a lovely evening that we enjoyed as a group with good food and drinks. The prices are already a little higher. But if the waiter, in the Greek style, asks for a final drink like Obstler or Ouzo, I don't expect to find the schnapps on the bill afterwards. Maybe my mistake.

Pleasant atmosphere. Staff very absent. Waited for over an hour for the food, that is not acceptable. Absolute shit show.. the waiter was rude and really not pleasant. Totally dismissive and scolded by the guests when we politely asked where our food was. We had to leave and they came running down the street after us to get us back. We got the food after 1.5 hours, the food was mediocre and nothing to dream about. Sorry but that's an ommer.

A Hamburg veteran of a restaurant/pub. A very successful conclusion after the fair. We ate the famous Labskaus and the smoked herring fillets. Everything was very tasty, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. A pleasure. The selection on the menu is local and original. The service is okay, but could be a little quicker. The food came quickly, but you then sit for a long time in front of empty glasses and wait a long time to pay. It's just a small thing, and I'll definitely come back when I go to Hamburg again 😊

The most important item on the agenda for a visit to Hamburg: Eat Labskaus here!!! (and nowhere else) ....and a freshly tapped Jever. Hanseatic, middle-class atmosphere. Old school. More courteous service until 2023 ....now, 2024, under new management and new service employees who still have to internalize the former Hanseatic understatement: (♤ Male waitress in cargo shorts? ♤ Claiming to be able to remember the order without a notepad as a service person and then bringing it incorrectly - ok, there were 13 of us this time. ♤ Do office work at the restaurant table by telephone using a speakerphone while the guests sit at the next table ...) And that's not the only reason why it's a star deduction compared to before, when I was often a guest there alone or in a group.

Fascinating and impressive rooms. The food was okay (my Labskaus was very good, my wife's kale with smoked pork didn't necessarily need to be repeated). Furthermore, the service seemed very stressed, there was an unusually long wait for menus and finally for the bill.

Food ok, fish unfortunately dry. We ate there on each of the last 3 annual visits to Hamburg. But to be thrown out by a waitress just because we had our 10-month-old baby with us, who got a little restless at the end of the meal (5 p.m., almost empty shop), is really the height and a big cheek! I recently visited this restaurant after hearing about their renowned Labskaus. Upon arrival, I waited a few minutes before a waitress approached. I politely asked in German if it would be possible to eat at that time. To my surprise, she responded coldly with, "Absolutely no way," and turned away without further explanation. I was left shocked and unsure of how to react to such a dismissive reception. While I was gathering my thoughts, I overheard her exchanging xenophobic comments with her colleague about me being French. This made the experience even more uncomfortable. Her colleague eventually came over, and informed me that the restaurant was fully booked, which was confusing given that most of the tables were empty. Having visited hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants in my life—including during my time as a food blogger—I cannot remember having been treated so poorly. The behavior of the first waitress was unprofessional and unacceptable, and it’s clear to me that she is absolutely not suited for a role in the service industry. I would recommend going instead to the nearby Krameramtsstuben, which is both charming and where I was welcomed warmly, despite their restaurant being much busier than this one.

Our visit to the Old Commercial Room was an experience in itself. A great atmosphere, very friendly and motivated staff. The food, just great. Price-performance ratio unbeatable. We had nice conversations and immediately felt warmly welcomed. We found the Traditions Restaurant by chance and would highly recommend a visit to the Old Commercial Room to anyone staying in Hamburg. We would love to come here again next time we visit Hamburg.

Tonight at 6:00 p.m. As already said, the food was excellent and the ambience was excellent to the point. We wanted to pay and the waitress waited for a long time with a note in her hand about her injury the day before. Which she then showed me later. The first one came and then wanted to settle and I pointed out that we had waited quite a long time and she was practically 6 meters away from us. She then showed me her injured index finger and pointed out that the service staff would also like to have a chat. You can only do that after paying. Because it was very stuffy and we really wanted to get out. She then stopped, went away and sent another colleague who then finished the billing.

Mega tasty Labskaus, decent portion at top prices

I recently visited the Old Commercial Room and unfortunately I am very disappointed. The lady behind the bar was extremely unfriendly and seemed very arrogant. Her behavior was not only rude, but also completely unprofessional. She seemed overwhelmed by the entire situation, which had a negative impact on the service. I felt like I wasn't welcome as a guest and will definitely not be returning. It's a shame because I was hoping for more from this restaurant.

This place is amazing! From the authentic German food to the amazing service that even called us a taxi, they are truly worth visiting. They have an English menu and are very kind to foreigners. They had delicious food and everything was wonderful (and truly German!).

Very tasty food for which you are happy to pay a little more, great service. But charging a whopping 3.90 for a 0.2 Coke is steep. The drinks prices are generally noticeably high. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Best currywurst and schnitzel in Hamburg

Telefonische Reservierung lief ohne Probleme. Erster negativer Eindruck bei Betreten des Restaurants, im Eingang roch es stark nach Toilette Rustikale Einrichtung aus dem letzten Jahrhundert, wirkt abgelebt und überholt. Sehr schlechter Service, wir mussten ca. 15 Minuten auf die Karten warten, ebenso lange bis die Getränke gebracht worden. Die 6 Essen wurden nicht gleichzeitig gebracht. Roulade mit Rotkohl sehr schmackhaft, Wiener Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffel: weiche, lauwarme Bratkartoffel, weiche, fettige Panade, einfacher, teurer Beilagensalat mit billiger Fertigsauce. Selbst die Kaffeebestellung wurde fehlerhaft ausgeführt. Speisekarten schmuddelig und unübersichtlich. Das Konzept passt nicht mehr in die Zeit.

Food is overpriced. The selection is limited. Mostly fish dishes. The Lapskaus is good, but also significantly too expensive compared to other Hamburg restaurants. The pan fish contains three tiny fish fillets, which cost €29. The giant currywurst and pork knuckles were rated as good by friends. The location opposite the Michel (Michaelis Church) is of course perfect.

The restaurant is located directly on the Michel and if you get a table by the window you have a nice view. In terms of ambience, you can imagine old Hamburg with its pepper sacks. The food was very tasty, especially the Labskaus is a recommendation.

what menu are you talking about? Alleged prices on the menu remain the same despite the VAT increase??! I paid €29.99 for Eisbein instead of the online menu of €25.99. Eisbein was perfect, side dishes were, well, I've eaten less good things.

The meal was delicious, both starters and main courses. The fish was cooked perfectly. The Schnitzel is one of the best I have ever eaten. The decor of the restaurant is very beautiful and gives a special atmosphere. We were upstairs and we would have preferred to be downstairs, the atmosphere is nicer. Restaurant to do when you want to have a typical German restaurant.

I would particularly like to highlight the food. It's simply delicious! The currywurst is an absolute must - I have rarely tried such a delicate version of this classic. As far as the price-performance ratio is concerned, I can only say: Top! The prices are more than fair for the quality of the food and the excellent service. If you're in the area, you definitely shouldn't miss this restaurant.

Nice location right next to St. Michael's church. They were super busy one night, where reservations were required - the next night it was much quieter (both weeknights). Either way, the good and service was good.

I saw great reviews and went to this restaurant, I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The staff was rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If they do not want coloured people in their restaurant, they should mention that, there are a lot of people who would love to eat at racist restaurants. I have never been insulted like that in my life. Disgusting.

Every time we are in Hamburg we go to this cool restaurant! We are always satisfied, and the Labskaus is of course our main dish, the service is very nice and attentive! Always my pleasure!!!

4 out of a group of 9 arrived at 1948 (booking was for 2000) I went to the bathroom on arrival. On exit my friends had left and I saw them outside. I went out and they said the waitress was so rude about us not being there at 2000 and they did not need to explain themselves. The rest of our party arrived - they convinced us to go back in - the original 4 (of which I was one) were not keen on this. We started to order one of the original 4 said he just wanted chips, the waitress made a derogatory comment about him, one of the group (not the original 4) asked her to apologise, more unpleasant language from the waitress. At this point one of the ones who had arrived in the second group stood up and said we are leaving... Truly unbelievably bad service...

Slightly quaint restaurant, although clearly geared towards tourists. Tip for eating: Best Labskaus in town. One could still argue whether matjes is a must, here there was no extra charge or there was an additional charge of €3, but overall it was very, very tasty (labskaus, 2 fried eggs, cucumber and beetroot)

I arrived ay the restaurant at 20:30 with my 77 year old mum who was so tired after a long day. As We entered the place they left is standing at the door for 15 minutes, with different waiters going around us without no single word. Finally, the Manager arrived . She looked ungry and again, no words to us. After more than 15 min she told us in a very disgusting and despreciative manner that there were no tables.. i saw several tables free but it seems the Manager was not in her best days. As my mum was very tired and it was very cold outside, even though this absolutely innaceptable treat to a client, i insisted if they were not able to accomodate us in and place because my mum was very tired. Again, a despreciative sight and answer while she was trying a “shot” in the bar . Incredible. I have never felt so despised in any place around the world. Inaceptable treat to the customer from every single point of view.

Maden var rigtig god, fik en fantastisk god wienerschnitzel. Men stemningen i restauranten var ikke god, vi kom 10 min. for tidlig, og damen som tog i mod os (datteren af huset) var nærmest irriteret. Vi kunne bare vente, hvilket var i orden, hvis det var blevet sagt på en anden måde. Hun talte heller ikke pænt til kollegerne. Man følte sig ikke velkommen, så det tog lidt af fornøjelsen. Det blev ikke til ekstra salg, vi spiste den gode mad og gik.

The days were also on site based on a recommendation. Had reserved 2 days in advance. The ladies couldn't find anything and blamed us. Well 🫤 The ambience there is worth 5 stars. Truly unique. Unfortunately, the food itself was nothing special. Given the prices you could have expected more. Last but not least, the service on site - absolutely miserable. Unfriendly - not attentive - and in the end even rolling their eyes and making fun of them. What a pity
