Old Commercial Room in Hamburg

We had a reservation for 8 people at 7pm. Everyone was on time - only the waiters didn't want to talk to us. We waited 30 minutes for the cards and only then were our drink requests accepted. We had our drinks at around 7:50 p.m. and our food at around 8:30 p.m. If we hadn't been with guests, I would have left within the first half hour. The food was good and plentiful - but it's too expensive even for Hamburg standards. The restaurant lives from its history, the photos and the ambience - it does not live from its service. Overall, it was too loud and dark for me, but that could have been passed off as quaint. Overall, an evening that I don't need to repeat.

Wow…it was fun here. Right next to the Michel, pure tradition in Hamburg. The food is very good, for me it could be a little more, but that is always in the interests of the beholder. Very good wine selection that surprised me. And in the ambience you can feel the stories of the past. Oh yes: very attentive, very good service. Thank you very much

I really liked the Old Commercial Room in Hamburg. Despite being almost overcrowded, the very friendly service managed to organize two more places. And the food, lobster soup and rennets with fried potatoes, was first class. And I also enjoyed the Ratshetren beer. The Old Commercial Room will be a stop for me again on my next visit to Hamburg. 😉

It was a lovely evening that we enjoyed as a group with good food and drinks. The prices are already a little higher. But if the waiter, in the Greek style, asks for a final drink like Obstler or Ouzo, I don't expect to find the schnapps on the bill afterwards. Maybe my mistake.

Pleasant atmosphere. Staff very absent. Waited for over an hour for the food, that is not acceptable. Absolute shit show.. the waiter was rude and really not pleasant. Totally dismissive and scolded by the guests when we politely asked where our food was. We had to leave and they came running down the street after us to get us back. We got the food after 1.5 hours, the food was mediocre and nothing to dream about. Sorry but that's an ommer.

A Hamburg veteran of a restaurant/pub. A very successful conclusion after the fair. We ate the famous Labskaus and the smoked herring fillets. Everything was very tasty, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. A pleasure. The selection on the menu is local and original. The service is okay, but could be a little quicker. The food came quickly, but you then sit for a long time in front of empty glasses and wait a long time to pay. It's just a small thing, and I'll definitely come back when I go to Hamburg again 😊

Nice food and nice people. But slow service when the tables were all full.

The most important item on the agenda for a visit to Hamburg: Eat Labskaus here!!! (and nowhere else) ....and a freshly tapped Jever. Hanseatic, middle-class atmosphere. Old school. More courteous service until 2023 ....now, 2024, under new management and new service employees who still have to internalize the former Hanseatic understatement: (♤ Male waitress in cargo shorts? ♤ Claiming to be able to remember the order without a notepad as a service person and then bringing it incorrectly - ok, there were 13 of us this time. ♤ Do office work at the restaurant table by telephone using a speakerphone while the guests sit at the next table ...) And that's not the only reason why it's a star deduction compared to before, when I was often a guest there alone or in a group.

Fascinating and impressive rooms. The food was okay (my Labskaus was very good, my wife's kale with smoked pork didn't necessarily need to be repeated). Furthermore, the service seemed very stressed, there was an unusually long wait for menus and finally for the bill.

Food ok, fish unfortunately dry. We ate there on each of the last 3 annual visits to Hamburg. But to be thrown out by a waitress just because we had our 10-month-old baby with us, who got a little restless at the end of the meal (5 p.m., almost empty shop), is really the height and a big cheek! We definitely won't be coming back!! Conclusion: People with children are not welcome here.

I recently visited this restaurant after hearing about their renowned Labskaus. Upon arrival, I waited a few minutes before a waitress approached. I politely asked in German if it would be possible to eat at that time. To my surprise, she responded coldly with, "Absolutely no way," and turned away without further explanation. I was left shocked and unsure of how to react to such a dismissive reception. While I was gathering my thoughts, I overheard her exchanging xenophobic comments with her colleague about me being French. This made the experience even more uncomfortable. Her colleague eventually came over, and informed me that the restaurant was fully booked, which was confusing given that most of the tables were empty. Having visited hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants in my life—including during my time as a food blogger—I cannot remember having been treated so poorly. The behavior of the first waitress was unprofessional and unacceptable, and it’s clear to me that she is absolutely not suited for a role in the service industry. I would recommend going instead to the nearby Krameramtsstuben, which is both charming and where I was welcomed warmly, despite their restaurant being much busier than this one.

Our visit to the Old Commercial Room was an experience in itself. A great atmosphere, very friendly and motivated staff. The food, just great. Price-performance ratio unbeatable. We had nice conversations and immediately felt warmly welcomed. We found the Traditions Restaurant by chance and would highly recommend a visit to the Old Commercial Room to anyone staying in Hamburg. We would love to come here again next time we visit Hamburg.

Tonight at 6:00 p.m. As already said, the food was excellent and the ambience was excellent to the point. We wanted to pay and the waitress waited for a long time with a note in her hand about her injury the day before. Which she then showed me later. The first one came and then wanted to settle and I pointed out that we had waited quite a long time and she was practically 6 meters away from us. She then showed me her injured index finger and pointed out that the service staff would also like to have a chat. You can only do that after paying. Because it was very stuffy and we really wanted to get out. She then stopped, went away and sent another colleague who then finished the billing.

Mega tasty Labskaus, decent portion at top prices

I recently visited the Old Commercial Room and unfortunately I am very disappointed. The lady behind the bar was extremely unfriendly and seemed very arrogant. Her behavior was not only rude, but also completely unprofessional. She seemed overwhelmed by the entire situation, which had a negative impact on the service. I felt like I wasn't welcome as a guest and will definitely not be returning. It's a shame because I was hoping for more from this restaurant.

This place is amazing! From the authentic German food to the amazing service that even called us a taxi, they are truly worth visiting. They have an English menu and are very kind to foreigners. They had delicious food and everything was wonderful (and truly German!).

Very tasty food for which you are happy to pay a little more, great service. But charging a whopping 3.90 for a 0.2 Coke is steep. The drinks prices are generally noticeably high. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Best currywurst and schnitzel in Hamburg

Telefonische Reservierung lief ohne Probleme. Erster negativer Eindruck bei Betreten des Restaurants, im Eingang roch es stark nach Toilette Rustikale Einrichtung aus dem letzten Jahrhundert, wirkt abgelebt und überholt. Sehr schlechter Service, wir mussten ca. 15 Minuten auf die Karten warten, ebenso lange bis die Getränke gebracht worden. Die 6 Essen wurden nicht gleichzeitig gebracht. Roulade mit Rotkohl sehr schmackhaft, Wiener Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffel: weiche, lauwarme Bratkartoffel, weiche, fettige Panade, einfacher, teurer Beilagensalat mit billiger Fertigsauce. Selbst die Kaffeebestellung wurde fehlerhaft ausgeführt. Speisekarten schmuddelig und unübersichtlich. Das Konzept passt nicht mehr in die Zeit.

Food is overpriced. The selection is limited. Mostly fish dishes. The Lapskaus is good, but also significantly too expensive compared to other Hamburg restaurants. The pan fish contains three tiny fish fillets, which cost €29. The giant currywurst and pork knuckles were rated as good by friends. The location opposite the Michel (Michaelis Church) is of course perfect.

The restaurant is located directly on the Michel and if you get a table by the window you have a nice view. In terms of ambience, you can imagine old Hamburg with its pepper sacks. The food was very tasty, especially the Labskaus is a recommendation.

what menu are you talking about? Alleged prices on the menu remain the same despite the VAT increase??! I paid €29.99 for Eisbein instead of the online menu of €25.99. Eisbein was perfect, side dishes were, well, I've eaten less good things.

The meal was delicious, both starters and main courses. The fish was cooked perfectly. The Schnitzel is one of the best I have ever eaten. The decor of the restaurant is very beautiful and gives a special atmosphere. We were upstairs and we would have preferred to be downstairs, the atmosphere is nicer. Restaurant to do when you want to have a typical German restaurant.

I would particularly like to highlight the food. It's simply delicious! The currywurst is an absolute must - I have rarely tried such a delicate version of this classic. As far as the price-performance ratio is concerned, I can only say: Top! The prices are more than fair for the quality of the food and the excellent service. If you're in the area, you definitely shouldn't miss this restaurant.

Nice location right next to St. Michael's church. They were super busy one night, where reservations were required - the next night it was much quieter (both weeknights). Either way, the good and service was good.

I saw great reviews and went to this restaurant, I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The staff was rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If they do not want coloured people in their restaurant, they should mention that, there are a lot of people who would love to eat at racist restaurants. I have never been insulted like that in my life. Disgusting.

Every time we are in Hamburg we go to this cool restaurant! We are always satisfied, and the Labskaus is of course our main dish, the service is very nice and attentive! Always my pleasure!!!

4 out of a group of 9 arrived at 1948 (booking was for 2000) I went to the bathroom on arrival. On exit my friends had left and I saw them outside. I went out and they said the waitress was so rude about us not being there at 2000 and they did not need to explain themselves. The rest of our party arrived - they convinced us to go back in - the original 4 (of which I was one) were not keen on this. We started to order one of the original 4 said he just wanted chips, the waitress made a derogatory comment about him, one of the group (not the original 4) asked her to apologise, more unpleasant language from the waitress. At this point one of the ones who had arrived in the second group stood up and said we are leaving... Truly unbelievably bad service...

Slightly quaint restaurant, although clearly geared towards tourists. Tip for eating: Best Labskaus in town. One could still argue whether matjes is a must, here there was no extra charge or there was an additional charge of €3, but overall it was very, very tasty (labskaus, 2 fried eggs, cucumber and beetroot)

Check the vídeo inside the restaurant , first floor me and my mom waiting near the counter. Hopefully it was only a bad day for your restaurant . ——————————- So unfriendly and unoleasant Manager and staff. I arrived ay the restaurant at 20:30 with my 77 year old mum who was so tired after a long day. As We entered the place they left is standing at the door for 15 minutes, with different waiters going around us without no single word. Finally, the Manager arrived . She looked ungry and again, no words to us. After more than 15 min she told us in a very disgusting and despreciative manner that there were no tables.. i saw several tables free but it seems the Manager was not in her best days. As my mum was very tired and it was very cold outside, even though this absolutely innaceptable treat to a client, i insisted if they were not able to accomodate us in and place because my mum was very tired. Again, a despreciative sight and answer while she was trying a “shot” in the bar . Incredible. I have never felt so despised in any place around the world. Inaceptable treat to the customer from every single point of view.

Maden var rigtig god, fik en fantastisk god wienerschnitzel. Men stemningen i restauranten var ikke god, vi kom 10 min. for tidlig, og damen som tog i mod os (datteren af huset) var nærmest irriteret. Vi kunne bare vente, hvilket var i orden, hvis det var blevet sagt på en anden måde. Hun talte heller ikke pænt til kollegerne. Man følte sig ikke velkommen, så det tog lidt af fornøjelsen. Det blev ikke til ekstra salg, vi spiste den gode mad og gik.

For me, the old Commercial Room always represented tradition. As a group, we want to go out for a good, traditional meal and in winter in the north, kale is a good option. The service was sloppy when you asked if you could order drinks after 20 minutes. Answer: I'm alone! The kale was a complete disaster. The kale tasted more like spinach. Totally meat-heavy, 2** maximum. A pity

Now I finally went to the venerable OCR and I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the food. Quite a large plate with a rather manageable quantity. The pan fish itself was okay, the fried potatoes were rather dry and the amount of side dishes was really small. For 26.90 euros I actually expected more. Quite long waiting times for drinks and food.

Ach ja, da will man mal den auswärtigen Gästen ein wenig Lokalkolorit bieten und dann ist der Abend (man kann es nicht anders sagen) katastrophal. Der Old Commercial Room ist ja eine Institution in Hamburg und natürlich haben wir eine eher touristische Gaststätte erwartet. Dass einem beim Reinkommen dann eher orientalische Gerüche von Räucherstäbchen in die Nase steigen, verwirrt zwar erst ein wenig, aber nach dem wir saßen und die Speisekarte studierten, wähnten wir uns doch am richtigen Ort. Das Bier kam dann auch recht schnell, aber dann begann das große Warten. Nach einiger Zeit kam die Vorspeise (die recht ungewöhnliche Variation von Labskaus) und die Warnung, dass es wegen einer größeren Gruppe zu Verzögerungen kommen könne. Noch gut gelaunt wurde das nächste Bier bestellt, aber dann passierte erst einmal nichts mehr. Nach mehrmaligen Nachfragen wurde uns versichert, dass die beiden Schollen und der Grünkohl das nächste wären, das fertig gemacht wurde. Aber irgendwas schien schief gegangen zu sein, denn nach einiger Zeit stürmte eine der Angestellten in die Küche, aus der dann wüste Beschimpfungen drangen. Nachdem die Dame genauso wutentbrannt wieder herausgekommen war, mussten wir weiter warten. Nach weiterem Nachfragen und 2(!) Stunden (und entsprechend Bier) wurden dann der Fisch und der Grünkohl gebracht. Die Schollen waren leider kaum genießbar. Offensichtlich waren diese viel zu lange unter dem Salamander gelagert worden. Die Oberseite war total zäh, die Unterseite kaum besser. Der Grünkohl war grundsätzlich in Ordnung. Warum man aber eine sehr überschaubar abgezählte Anzahl an Kartoffeln auf dem Teller drapiert hat (und auch der Rest war eher übersichtlich) blieb uns ein Rätsel. Unserer Bedienung war das alles sichtlich peinlich und immerhin gingen Nachtisch und Schnaps auf Kosten des Hauses.

Authentic northern German kitchen - try the Labskaus

Absolut sehenswert. Wie eine Reise in die Hamburger Vergangenheit. Das Restaurant lässt sich den Alltag vergessen. Essen ist auch gut, genauso wie die Weinkarte.

Oft bin ich schon im "Old Commercial Room" in Hamburg gewesen und bin immer noch von dem gemütlichen Ambiente und leckeren Essen begeistert. Insbesondere der Labskaus und der Aal sind hervorragend - wie auch das Eisbein, das so groß ist, dass man es kaum schafft. Leider war die Bedienung so unfreundlich, dass wir jetzt erstmal ein paar Monate nicht mehr hingehen werden. Bei vier Personen könnte man erwarten, dass alle Gerichte einigermaßen zeitgleich serviert werden, zumal das Lokal zum Zeitpunkt unseres Besuches am Nachmittag fast leer war - die Bedienung hatte schlicht und einfach ein Gericht vergessen und wurde dann noch pampig. Schade, hier scheint der Kunde kein König mehr zu sein.

Supernettes Personal, das uns ohne Reservierung noch einen Tisch bis zum Eintreffen der geplanten Gäste gab. Wunderbares Schnitzel! Kann ich nur empfehlen. Die Roulade muss ebenso gut gewesen sein. Sie zerging im Mund. (PS: Der Hit ist das Damen-WC. Glitzernde WC-Brillen hatte ich noch nie.)

Ohne Termin habe ich einen Tisch bekommen können. Essen ist hervorragend. Das Personal war freundlich. Das Ambiente ist wunderbar. Man kann gut abschalten Aufgrund der angenehmen Möbel und der tollen Hintergrund Musik. Die Herren Toilette, hat ein tolles Design sowie ein schönen Duft. Auch Parfüme auf der Toilette stehen zur Verfügung, das finde ich toll. Aufgrund der aktuellen Situation ist das Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis super. Kann das Lokal wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

Am 09.09.2005 haben wir hier nach dem Standesamt gegessen. Es war super... Am 14.12.2023 wurde ich durch den Chef meiner Frau zu deren Weihnachtsessen mit eingeladen. Am Tisch 7 saßen wir mit 14 Leuten. Das alkoholfrei Hefeweizen Bier war mit Alkohol und kam erst nach 3ter Nachfrage. Das Labskaus war so dünnflüssig das es durch einen Strohhalm ging. Der Hamburger Pannfisch meiner Frau könnte auch TK gewesen. Die Schnitzel mit mega Pommes sahen gut aus haben wohl auch sehr gemundet. Die Getränke ließen sehr auf sich warten. Der Service suchte seines gleichen...Leider nicht im positiven sind. Im Angebot kein offener Wein , Gänsekeule ist aus Zuruf beim hinsetzen , Getränke vertauscht , rumgedutze...Die Servicekraft outette sich als Tochter der Cheffin... Es ist fast 19 Jahre her das wir da waren...man hat sich alles verschlechtert. So " schnell" kommen wir nicht wieder und die Schulleitung vom Gymnasium D...... wohl auch nicht.

Kult - Location, leckeres Essen, toller Service! Und für Erstbesucher/Touristen gibt es auch noch vieles zu sehen. Absolut empfehlenswert! 👍🏼

Haben das hochgelobte Labskaus ausprobiert, totale Enttäuschung! Masse aus pürierten Kartoffeln (vermutlich Fertigprodukt) und undefinierbaren fleischähnlichem Produkt. Geschmackserlebnis eher wie "Alete" Babybrei. Aber sehr freundlicher Service und urige Atmosphäre.

Es gilt zwar als Institution in Sachen Gastlichkeit, jedoch bekam ich das Gefühl, dass man sich auf dem vergangenen Ruhm ausruht. Die Vorspeise (Matjes) war gut, jedoch der Hauptgang mit Grünkohl ein schlechter Scherz. Für den Preis eine sehr kleine Portion mit exakt (!) 3 kleinen Kartoffeln. Der Grünkohl an sich war okay, jedoch auch nichts außergewöhnliches, was ich für den Preis erwartet hätte. Ohne böse sein zu wollen, doch in günstigeren Restaurants ist genauso gut. Hinzu kam noch, dass auf der Karte Gerichte ausgewiesen sind, die "nicht vorrätig" sind. Wir reden von einem Samstag Abend 18 Uhr, wie schlecht muss man organisiert sein?

Eigentlich ganz urig und das Essen in meinem Fall Schnitzel ist top! Jedoch muss man bei größeren Gruppen mit langer Wartezeit rechnen wenns ums Essen geht ... Dennoch kläre Empfehlung!

Sehr schönes Ambiente und die Mitarbeiter sind total nett, humorvoll, aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Allein deswegen lohnt sich schon der Besuch. Das Essen an sich war lecker. Es gibt natürlich viel Fisch etc. und ein paar andere Gerichte. Das Dessert war lecker, der Salat hat mich auch überzeugt, das Hauptgericht war I.O.

Ich habe mir die wirklich sehr gut gelungene Webseite angeschaut, als ich plante, dieses Restaurant erstmals zu besuchen. Ich habe telefonisch einen Tisch reserviert und ich kann jedem nur empfehlen frühzeitig zu reservieren. Das Telefongespräch war äußerst angenehm. Die Erwartungen wurden bei meinem Besuch voll erfüllt. Die hervorragend zubereiteten Speisen und Regionalen Spezialitäten sind ein riesen Erlebnis in dieser ganz besonderen Atmosphäre des Old Commercial Room.

Alt eingessenes speiselokal,uhrig, rustikal. Sehr leckeres Schnitzel vom milchkalb (empfelungswert) .Service dauerte etwas,war aber der Personal dichte und des hohen Andrang geschuldet... Reservieren sollte man schon vorher..

Essen war super lecker, tolles Lokal und sehr nette Bedienung. Ich habe ein Halstuch vergessen und der Kellner Ochan hat mir dieses nach seinem Feierabend zum Hotel gebracht. Old Commercial Room ist einmalig und sehr empfehlenswert!
