The restaurant is not big, but cozy. The waitresses were all top 👍🏻 Unfortunately, the food didn't convince us.

The best German meal I had in Cologne for three days, much better than the one at Main Fire. The price was very reasonable. Two people ordered two appetizers (raw pork sandwich + creamy salmon soup), plus a roasted elbow, and two glasses of beer. They couldn't finish it, and it didn't cost 30 yet. The creamy salmon soup was too salty and average. The raw pork sandwich was very large and had a lot of meat. The elbow was less than 20 but it was so big. It had a lot of skin and was grilled very crispy. It was very good. The waiter was also very friendly and advised us not to order more, but to order when we were not full. I will eat here again next time I come to Cologne!

Rustic small brewery in downtown Cologne. Absolute insider tip if you want to eat traditional local cuisine. The food tastes excellent and impresses with its flawless authenticity. The draft beer from the Päffgen brewery ensures a successful culinary conclusion. If you go on a trip to Cologne, you should definitely eat there instead of the big breweries around the old town and Heumarkt, because I think the food there doesn't taste nearly as good as Max Stark's. Apart from that, the price-performance ratio is also significantly better here.

We focused on reviews. We were very lucky that they found a table for us without a reservation. Delicious and refreshing Kölsch at an inexpensive price. We were pleased with the attentive waiter who patiently told us about the dishes. I advised on the local custom that as long as you do not cover your beer glass with a coaster, they will endlessly bring fresh beer. Great tradition. The food was amazing. If you are looking for a fine dining restaurant, this is not the place for you. They serve authentic and delicious traditional food. We have been to many establishments in Cologne, and there really is value for money here. Inexpensive but tasty.

That's funny, it has to make sense! If you want to experience a real brewery atmosphere with solid and very tasty food at reasonable prices: this is the place for you. The kitchen staff was very attentive, the beer was always full, the food (mathappen, sauerbraten and schnitzel) was excellent. But the highlight came at the end: the pancakes were a real sensation. We've never eaten anything like this before. My grandma made great pancakes, but would have lost here. You can/must come here just for the pancakes. The beer here comes from real barrels and not from steel tanks. You can taste it (we imagine). Or is it the beer? Locals claim that Päffgen is the best Kölsch on tap. In any case it doesn't make a head ;-) The ambience is a brewery, the mood is relaxed to lively (not for a romantic dinner), and the volume is definitely there. Toilets okay. Reservation recommended or a little patience. But the beers while waiting at the bar tables also taste great. Clear recommendation, we will come back.

We were traveling in Cologne and we loved this place. Good atmosphere and good food at an affordable price. Also, the waitress was super friendly and helped us with everything she could. We liked it so much that we repeated the next day!

Unfortunately I cannot recommend Max Stark. We had made a reservation on Friday for 6 p.m., were brought to the table and half an hour later the waiter came. I wanted to order a cutlet and he said it would take between 45 minutes and an hour to prepare and we had to clear the table in an hour. We only had 1.5 hours. Then just ordered pre-cooked mediocre knuckle. The Kölsch was rarely brought new; most of the time we sat in front of the empty glass. The toilets should be avoided at all costs. I have never experienced such a smell in the catering industry. In addition, the fabric towel roll was defective.

As always, very tasty. It's almost always packed at Max Stark, so it's worth making a reservation in advance. The service was quick and always on the go, but you didn't actually have to wait long. The food was excellent and the price was almost too cheap for the quantity you get. It is excellent every time and every time I visit Cologne I am Max's guest and will continue to come!

This is a great place. Visited Max Stark on three occasions during a recent visit to Koln and was not disappointed. The food and service on each occasion was top notch as was the Kölsch. Try and book if you can as it was packed out each time we visited but were lucky enough to get a table. Look forward to retuning.

Ja, man kommt zu guten Bewertungen, wenn Mann und Frau nacheinander das gleiche schreiben. Unser Abend im Max Stark war leider nicht sehr schön. Das so gelobte Reservierungssystem hatte nicht funktioniert, bzw. usnere Reservierung schon und dennoch musste wir an einen zu kleinen Tisch, nachdem wir auch noch gewartet hatten. Soweit so gut. Essensbestellung wurde vertauscht, ein Essen fehlte, und kam dann nachträglich. Kommt hier scheinbar öfter vor. Entschuldigung Fehlanzeige, insgesamt eher selbstgefälliger, überheblicher Umgang mit den Gästen und ein nicht zufriedenstellender Abend.

Original corner pub. The food is rustic but not a culinary highlight. You don't expect it either. Just like you imagine a corner pub. Would definitely go again.

I loved the food, it was very delicious, I recommend the goulash for the meat part, not the soup part, and a pork. It was very well priced and strong. It is a little further from the center, but it is worth going there, it is a 15-minute walk from the cathedral. I recommend going early, we went around 1pm and waited about 15 minutes until a table was free. The place is small

If you are looking for classic German food and Korcsh beer taste, this is the place. 12 min from Dom cathedral. Within walking distance. The food is delicious, I leave the menu. The only drawback is that the beer is small, 0.2 cl and it runs out quickly. 2.1 euro each beer. Everyone sits next to each other at the tables, and those who don't eat are taken to the bar, be careful!

We wanted to enjoy a nice Kölsch evening with Päffgen Kölsch. The beer was great! We were told straight away that it was unusual not to order food (nothing was said about this when we made the reservation and the vegetarian selection is.. well..). We drank a lot of Kölsch and were forced to stand at the bar at 9 p.m. because we didn't eat, even though the bill was almost €150. We found this very outrageous and should have been communicated when we made the reservation. It was very loud and didn't mix clients well. The Kölsch is top, the rest is rather mediocre unfortunately.

We got the jägerschnitzel and the fresh pork sausage and it was amazing! The portions are huge and the waiter was really nice. 10/10 spot if you’re looking for a typical German restaurant.

A great spot to enjoy delicious Kölsch - Päffgen really impressed us! Unfortunately, the waitress's mood wasn't quite as lively as the beer. After several comments that we weren't ordering anything to eat (which the waitress said was apparently "really unusual") we decided to leave the restaurant early. It's actually a shame, because we left a lot of money behind for the good Kölsch.

Yesterday at lunchtime we spontaneously went to the brewery (with a table reservation). Even though it was very crowded, we ate and drank excellently. The service from Alex and Nao and the entire team......simply top. Greetings from Bonn Karin and Ralf G.

We were here on a Wednesday evening. Reservation is necessary. We were seated at the table with other nice people. It was very loud and the chop tasted good and was huge, but the meat was very dry.

I was very disappointed. I reserved a table for two people for New Year's Eve in October. We got there on time and were then asked to sit at a table that was the size and as low as a side table. Ideal for drinking but not for eating. Two plates wouldn't fit in life. Solution from the staff was also not an option. It's a shame, that's what you reserve and rely on. Then they left again. P.s.: Staff said we reserved too late. Then yes.....

Good home-style food at reasonable prices. Service very friendly and attentive. Ambiance: Typically loud and crowded for a brewery. My meal: Wiener Schnitzel. Salad and fries were great. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was a bit too dark (perhaps too many baked in the same fat). Everything the companions eat was great. Tried steak and chop. All in all, happy again

Good place in good time - after 6PM,you better be ready to wait long time to have a seat for a meal. Most of people sit & drink which is unfair, as they might as well stand and drink... while you who want to eat have to wait at least half an hour. So, service, in that regard, sucks. Better reserve well ahead otherwise don't bother. Food is good but not so much better that it pays off waiting an hour to sit in between happy drunks - go to other place, pay few Euros more and get to eat while you still have an appetite.

Tolles Köln, tolles Essen und sehr freundlicher Services. Max Stark ist ein typisch Kölner Restaunrant im Brauhausstil mit einer bunten Speisekarter kölscher Kochkunst. Lohnt sich!

We had a reservation for 8pm with my wife and 3 yrs old daughter. However we could be there exactly at 8:18pm but they told that they gave our table to another group without calling us! And they did not arrange another table for us! It was the first and last attempt to eat there!

Dec. 2024: nice little brewery in the Kuniberts/Agnesviertel in Cologne... Huge drawback: when you make a reservation you are assigned a time slot for eating for 1 ½ hours! And then it happened as it had to happen: a meal would take more than an hour to prepare!!! We still had a maximum of 30 minutes to eat and pay. A NO GO! And the joke: the waiter picked up the WRONG FOOD with the brewery chop and brought it! Price for a Kölsch 2.10 EUR... well... that's how it goes... It was brewery-like, very loud. It was ok...but nothing more. More of a Veedels meeting place.

We were there for lunch to eat the sauerbraten. Really a quaint restaurant. The food was exceptionally tasty, the meat was very tender. The dark sauce is a dream The Kölsch straight from the barrel, even without a tap. Very good I would do it again at any time and can recommend it to anyone who wants to try Rhenish cuisine

We loved it. Staff was very efficient and friendly. Strongly recommended to make a reservation, even during weekdays. Very good typical "german" dishes and excellent "Kölsch" (beer). Noisy indeed.

Packed to capacity, even at 1 p.m. midday in the middle of the week. Therefore, there is a relatively high level of noise at the beginning. The rooms are clear. For this reason too, a reservation is required, although a bit tricky as it is only possible for a large number of people. If there are any deviations, you must indicate this in “Remarks”. Reservation went smoothly, the table was free 2 minutes after the specified time. The waiter was humorous and the quality of the food was excellent! In addition, the price-performance ratio is absolutely fine. Anytime, always, again!!
