Exactly how you imagine a brewery to be. But in a smaller way. Very tasty food, friendly Köbes and great ambience.

The best thing first: There is Päffgen Kölsch. But the food is also great and has a good selection at fair prices. Staff is always good for jokes. The expenditure per person is a bit high; depends on how many puffs you put the lid on the glass :-)

Perfect place if you want something typical and cheap. The restaurant is very small, lousy and hot so you may not want to choose it if you are in search of something fancy and quiet. Nevertheless, the food is good and the waiters are very nice.

Only had four Kölsch. They came quickly and were ice cold. The service was very nice. I'd love to come back for a quick Kölsch.

Service is a disaster as always, you stand at the bar table waiting 15 minutes for the Kölsch. The waiter sees you, has exactly 2 Kölsch in his wreath and just moves on. The waiters would rather drink the Kölsch themselves than serve guests. I was about to call so I could finally get a Kölsch. I wanted to give it another chance but it's the same as always if you don't eat anything because that brings in sales and you're ignored if you just drink

Simple, typical Kölsch pub, just as you would imagine as a Cologne resident. Rustic Köbesse, high-quality local cuisine. The chop is awesome. Better reserve. Oh yes, and the best thing for last: Päffgen Kölsch. 😀

A brewery that I always enjoyed going to when I still lived in Cologne and I still enjoy visiting today. The food is tasty, the service is on point and it is better to make a reservation in advance, as there is a lot of traffic here due to the advantages described. Wonderful dishes, beautiful little German restaurant is recommended for every visit to Cologne but you should 100% make a reservation and definitely be prepared to tip.

Very good food, the atmosphere is exceptional, not a tourist trap, really a place where locals meet to eat different dishes every day, not having to worry about an empty glass, and benefit from a extraordinary and very appreciable service (whatever the original language, as long as you speak a little English). The value for money is also excellent! I highly recommend, really a great experience!

Very friendly staff. You could hear laughter and a fun atmosphere from one street away. The place was full with locals, this usually means the food is good, which in this case was true. They have a daily menu which is solely written in German. Don't be afraid to ask the staff about the menu if you can't read German however. The staff frequently refills your beer as well. We had schnitzel, which tasted fantastic. Do, however, go here on an empty stomach. Otherwise you'll be fighting the amount of food at the 75% completion mark. We will definitely be visiting again soon. On that note, the price is quite good considering the amount of food you get.

Simple but clean place, varied menu and friendly staff... except that they took the tip without asking! If you pay by card they insert the tip without saying anything, found in the bill as if it were any other item (and it was €5.60).

Restaurant located near the station area. Excellent typical German food with very generous portions and adequate prices. Very recommended!

A small but fine brewery in the Eifelsteinviertel. Good, hearty brewery cuisine, with decent portions and friendly, attentive service leave nothing to be desired. Only the noise level and the lack of an outdoor area, which is due to the circumstances, make me only give it 4 stars.

Yesterday we returned to the Max Stark Inn once again and, as always, we were absolutely thrilled! The food was plentiful, hot, tasted great and with the additional daily menu it was hard to decide. The price-performance ratio is right here. The Kölsch was of course delicious as always and the Köbes was very friendly and attentive. Thank you very much! We'd love to come back!!!!

Walking around and found Max Stark on the corner. Looked inviting- I was happily surprised by the large menu selection. I was on a search for schnitzel, and Max did not disappoint. Fresh and delicious with mushrooms- very good. The Kolsch beer was very tasty as well.

Die Krux des Internets ist die Dauerhaftigkeit von Informationen, nichts wird gelöscht, alles bleibt. So auch Speisekarten und Preise für Gerichte und Getränke. Auch Max Stark hat kräftig an den Preisen gearbeitet. Sicher argumentiert man auch hier mit den gestiegenen Nebenkosten. Ist das richtig? Ja. Denn wenn man genau vergleicht, sieht man, wie freundlich und mit Bedacht man sich sogar diesem unschönen Thema widmet. Mineralwasser und alle anderen alkoholfreien Getränke seit 2019 (mindestens) preisstabil. Kindergerichte, alle zum gleichen Preis seit mindestens fünf Jahren. Schön also, dass das Internet nichts vergisst. Es erinnert uns sogar manchmal daran wie solide offensichtlich gewirtschaftet werden kann. Und die Kneipe im Veedel ist immer noch Tag ein Tag aus voll besetzt mit fröhlichen Menschen. Und die wissen zu schätzen wissen, dass frisch gekochte Hausmannskost seinen Preis hat. Und selbst dieser ist im Max trotz fantastischer Qualität mehr als überzeugend- preis-wert! Danke für den klasse Abend, auch für Freundlichkeit, humor und Spitzenservice. Unser erstes Mal wird nicht das letzte sein.

Max Stark is famous for their schnitzel, which they serve topped with creamed mushrooms and French fries. It was very good. We also tried the fresh bratwust with potato salad. Lively and bustling atmosphere.

If you're lucky enough to get a table, you can still eat deliciously, well and cheaply here. And the Päffgen Kölsch is simply the best

Reserved a table today for 3 people from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wife was there at 12:15 p.m., son and I at 12:20 p.m. Table away with the justification, “you have to be on time!”. There is no mention of this in the reservation confirmation email! Horrible behavior towards the guests! We've always enjoyed going there often, but that was definitely the last time!

Hello dear friends So what I experienced here is absolutely bottom-notch! I ordered a steak with mushrooms. Halfway through it was crossed with a tendon. It was no longer possible to cut and eat. After I pointed this out to the waiter, my plate was aggressively shoved under my nose and some trivial accusations were thrown at me. E.g. yes, you are a huge carnivore etc.

Small and very nice inn 👌🏽 The food is incredibly delicious! Really nice, hearty home cooking with a brewery feeling. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality. The goulash was really excellent. The Köbes - a dream. Of course, we had to wait a while without a reservation, but we don't regret a minute of it. Well looked after and entertained, we treated ourselves to a snack in advance and got a table quicker than expected. Shortly before dinner we moved again to make room for a group of several guests. No reason to worry. That's how it is in Cologne. Flexible, fun, helpful and no one is left out! Clean. Yummy. Cozy.

Good service, fast, calm, the ambience is appealing with a gutter in the toilet according to the old custom. In addition, the quality of the food is very good and Päffgen speaks for itself, so everything is perfect.

Authentic German tavern, where you can taste the local cuisine in an extensive menu, with dishes of the day. As for the staff that runs the place, they are very friendly and attentive. The quality of the food is simply spectacular, the size of the plate is large and abundant. The prices are very competitive, even better than the tourist circuit. It has a medium-sized indoor dining room, so it is recommended to reserve online.

Very fun atmosphere! The staff were friendly and helpful. The beer was replenished frequently! The food was amazing - I had the bratwurst and I have never had anything like that! The flavor was so amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Delicious food and plenty of portions

This place is great! Slightly off the beaten tourist track but extremely lively with great food and friendly service. Be sure to book, though (you can do this on the website).

The service was the worst, we were treated like super annoying people, the waiter was so so rude and refused to give us our order.

The staff was extremely rude. We just pointed out to the waiter that the order was filled incorrectly. After a short conversation we were told “Are you trying to piss me off?” Never experienced anything like that. Never again.

We were looking forward to a delicious meal and were unfortunately extremely disappointed! The staff repeatedly took the order incorrectly and in the end wanted to blame us for the mistakes. Highlight: The waitress snatched the wrong order out of our hands. Never experienced anything so unfriendly! Afterwards we noticed the even more impudent tone in the kitchen - against the kitchen staff. There doesn't seem to be a good working atmosphere there. A pity!

A classic German brewpub. Very courteous yet authentic with the “tourist” folk. Enjoyed the setting, service was excellent and food was great for the price.

Top Essen und Bier keine Frage. Auch der Service ist nett, bringt bestelltes flott an den vorher reservierten Tisch. Allerdings ist es über alle Maße zu kritisieren, wie der Chef mit den Gästen umgeht und sogar beschimpft. Schade, trotz top-Leistung sieht MAX mich nicht wieder.

The best deutsch restaurant It’s the restaurant that I will go when visiting Köln

A few friends and I stopped by to grab something for dinner. We didn't order any appetizers and went for the main courses and local beer. I ordered a bratwurst and fried potatoes, and, to be honest, wasn't very impressed since the bratwurst was overcooked. But as you can see from the picture, the portion was quite big. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and spoke some English.

It was my first stop in Koln and stood out as one of my favorites. Very good vibes, great food and the servers make the experience feel very personal. Highly recommend!

Banging affordable traditional German kolsch + food. Ordered brisket with a white sauce and pork with braised onions both with fried potatoes. Absolutely delicious. Maybe not suitable for 30 degree heat but still loved it. They keep topping up the beer until you tell them to stop. Can’t fault anything about this place, thanks guys 🙌

Food can't be better! Fresh, appetizing, large portions and unique taste. The daily changing daily menu with a wide range of offerings is great. Not a tourist rip-off, but a place where locals also like to eat. A real insider tip! The waitresses were always extremely friendly and patient, no matter how busy it was.
