Sat outside with friends. All tables were occupied, staff were always very friendly and service was quick. Really great. Now about the food, there's nothing to complain about even if you're in a tourist hotspot. The quality of all the food was good. Greetings to the kitchen 👍

We hebben een fantastische tijd gehad bij Hänneschen und die Pfeffermühle in Keulen. Het grote terras is een ideale plek om te genieten van het mooie weer. Het vriendelijke personeel zorgde voor een vlotte bediening, ondanks de drukte op het terras. Toen we aankwamen, was het erg druk vanwege het mooie weer, maar we konden binnen even wachten tot er een tafeltje op het terras vrij kwam. Het eten was heerlijk en de locatie in de binnenstad van Keulen is prachtig. Wij zijn zeer tevreden en komen zeker nog eens terug!

Service was very nice, quick and great attention. The food was fresh, delicious, good quality and quantity. Handcraft beer is also recommended!

Wanted to go to the restaurant on a hot day. Were turned away because it wasn't supposed to be occupied inside. We should please take a seat outside. There was just one table free in the shade and it was very warm. But the table was completely crooked. That wasn't nice. The people who came after us were allowed in after all. (2 minutes later) A bit outrageous and incomprehensible. The food was good so far. Except: I had a salad plate that wasn't exactly enough for me to be very hungry. I know that better and different for the price. I also ordered fries, which only came after I asked twice. Staff seemed overwhelmed and annoyed. When I asked for the second time (when we had almost finished the meal/salad), the only answer I got was from the first waiter: "Oh, I forgot the fries again." Unfortunately no excuse - nothing. Too bad. I didn't feel comfortable there. “Welcome Guests” looks different to me. Unfortunately not again.

Food was just ok. This area is filled with tourism and it felt like the restaurants know they don't have to work very hard to make their money. Our server was great. Unlike most in the region he was attentive and quick. He also told us about the theater.

We ate there for the first time at the beginning of August. The dishes were very tasty and were at the table very quickly. Even though it was busy (Saturdays), the waiters were friendly. In terms of price performance, I found it to be completely okay. I can't complain, we'll be back soon :)

It was a beautiful Sunday, the store was super full. The waiters and waitresses do a great job. Simply great. The kölsch came quickly and despite the hustle and bustle, the food was at the table quickly. Super tasty and super good. Kudos to the kitchen and the nice, courteous staff. Nice location where the daily menu also includes Cologne cuisine. But don't worry, there's a translation 😉 The food was very tasty, I only deducted one star because the fried potatoes were only lukewarm. There is also a point deduction for service because neither ketchup nor mayonnaise was offered with the fries and bratwurst, but at the neighboring table they were 🤔 You have to like the hustle and bustle at the Heimarkt, otherwise a table inside might be more appropriate. However, I wasn't inside, so I can't rate the ambience. It's okay for outside. Definitely worth a visit🥳

We had a dinner that didn't look too bad at first... But then a worm (huge and alive) came crawling out of my flesh... In the end I didn't pay for it, but I won't recommend the restaurant to anyone.. . A worm in food is simply unacceptable!

Met up with an old colleague here. Super nice service, great ambience and very tasty food.

Food really good, service extremely unfriendly except for Shajam. After waiting for 30 minutes, we were assigned a table, which unfortunately was occupied by a regular guest. Afterwards it was repeatedly made clear to us and also told that we were actually not wanted.

The schnitzel tastes really good and the portion is large. The service was extremely friendly and accommodating. It's nice to sit outside :)

Simply delicious and lots of it! We also ordered a portion of fried potatoes. That was absolutely not necessary to satisfy our great hunger! Every now and then you should listen to the service.

My comment in tripadvisor: "I ordered a mixed grill, which was good. Service was also ok overall except one staff called Pino. He was rude when serving me by ignoring my responses, unlike towards other customers. He is potentially racist and so be "Be careful if you are non-white." Response from management: "As you may see, we don't respond to all reviews. But we have to respond to something absurd like this, because strangely enough, our waiter Pino received five stars from an Indian family three days ago and the guests were so happy that He took such good care of them. But when you have complexes and blame everything on racism, we lose our temper. We grew up here in Cologne and all of our employees, except for two, are foreigners There is no racism here and everyone is welcome. Had hier normaal niet gaan eten ivm uitstraling maar ivm beoordeling TA toch gedaan. Lekker en veel gegeten. Bediening oké, duurde nl wel even maar wel heel aardig.

Lage schön, essen gut, Personal freundlich. Aussen hui, aber innen... Schade, ein bisschen mehr Sauberkeit sollte sein.

Im Vorfeld war klar, dass man in dieser Jahreszeit nicht reservieren kann. Nach einem freundlichen Mail Kontakt, haben wir uns dennoch entschieden, das Lokal zu besuchen. Es hat alles wunderbar. Wir mussten nicht lange warten und hatten einen schönen Aufenthalt. Super leckeres Essen und sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Mitarbeiter. Auch bekam ich den Tipp, dass das Nachbarlokal eine barrierefreie Toilette hat. Auch hier waren sie sehr freundlich und es war überhaupt kein Problem, dass ich die Toilette benutzen durfte. Es war noch ein schöner Aufenthalt. Wir kommen sicherlich wieder.

We wanted to eat something from German cuisine, we were not disappointed. A restaurant that is just ok.

Waitress took 30 mins to come back to us as we weren't ready to order on her time. She then claimed we didn't get salad when we thought we did, for the server to then correct her, even though menu was clear. Bratwurst and salad were salty. Brought sunblind in too soon, so got roasted. Unlike anywhere else in Koln, they happily left my glass empty of beer and I had to ask for a refill. 4.6 stars returned disappointment, at least schnitzel was good.

Friendly service and operation. Ample portions. Schnitzel Jäger or mushroom cream is highly recommended. Food is prepared quickly and tastes good.

Four of us went to this restaurant yesterday without a reservation. Even though it was very busy, we were able to get a nice table outside. The food was very good, the portions and the price-performance ratio were right. We would definitely visit the restaurant again.

Great food, delicious drinks and even nicer staff. The yardstick on Heumarkt was set high!

We had a fantastic evening dinning here .The Argentinian rump steak was exceptional,just like what we had in Argentina. The accompaniments were amazing as well , the potato gratin and beans with bacon.The guy who served us Pino , made the evening extra special for us by just being really friendly and helpful. He is such a happy guy who goes that extra mile to make you feel special. There are various musicians too playing at the square who entertain you whilst you enjoy your meal sitting outside the restaurant. It's a wonderful place to enjoy a meal when visiting Koln.

It was delicious, if you're looking for solid food you're in good hands here. Service was also very nice. You shouldn't expect fine dining, but you don't pay for it either.

If you like delicious food, then this place is a must. The food is amazing, well seasoned, well prepared, well presented... big praise to the kitchen. The staff is careful, very friendly and highly committed. Thanks to the team.

Were there with 10 people without a table reservation. The managing director was very flexible and easily provided us with a table. ALL of my colleagues and I were absolutely thrilled with the food. Price/performance is pretty okay. Great service from the waiter. Everyone was thrilled and the last guests.

We had schnitzel, super tasty, great meat quality, pounded nice and thin, great breading, homemade sauces, best schnitzel we've eaten in a long time, also super nice and fast service, it's worth going to Cologne just for this good food, Prices are also absolutely fair for the quality and quantity and the food is certainly better than in many large breweries

We liked it here so much that we visited Hänneschen on two evenings. The situation at Heumarkt is suspicious. There are definitely a few tourist traps here. Not so this great restaurant. The service is passionate, the rustic food is excellent. The beer tastes wonderfully fresh and you feel completely good. Absolute recommendation.

Various furniture, a football match on TV with a burnt-out display (you know, the European Football Championship, in Germany). The kitchen is practically part of the restaurant. Very pleasant surprise from the helpful staff (unfortunately only at the beginning). Now positively, the menu also in English, the service communicates perfectly in English. Great food, huge portions, dishes with elements of local cuisine, very good local beer like Kölsch bier (local specialty famous all over Europe). Unfortunately the service was declining as time went by, probably fatigue from the two European Championship matches that were on TV in the meantime. Overall rating very good to great in terms of gastronomic experience.

Even though it was very busy, we were warmly welcomed and given a nice seat. Both the drinks and the food were brought very quickly and the price was really right. The “house pan” in particular was simply a delight and I haven’t eaten anything so good in a long time. If you are in Cologne, you should definitely visit the location!

Car c'était pratiquement immangeable.... Après réflexion faites. La seule réaction fut "je le dirais au chef"! Dommage moi qui voulait manger local chez le lauréat 2023

Stopped by here for a schnitzel and a flammkuchen. Both were great. Loved eating outsides. You need to try their fried potatoes. Absolutely delicious. The asparagus soup was a great choice. I thought it would be a cup. It was a bowl, glad it was.

There were five of us eating here and everyone was very enthusiastic about the food. It was a pleasure!

We ordered three mains. Two plates of Bratwurst with sauerkraut and baked potatoes plus a large green salad. Only one plate of bratwurst and the salad were brought out. We queried the staff and they said only one plate of bratwurst ordered. The staff member apparently had a headache and wasn’t feeling well. We were quite annoyed by this and no apology was forthcoming. Food was tasty and good in size but the mistake ruined our meal.

The food was very good. Well seasoned, everything was hot and even though the place was full it was ready quickly. The service was very friendly. Special requests will be fulfilled and additional costs for replacing inserts will be indicated on the card. The prices are reasonable and absolutely ok for the area. Here, as in most of the places on the square, you can drink just one Kölsch without being evicted. In many other cities, you will be turned away if you don't want to eat. So, come to Cologne and go to the Heumarkt.

Last weekend we were guests at this restaurant, which is located directly on the Heumarkt, for the second time in just a few months, and were really very satisfied with the food we received here on both of our visits. Overall, the menu offers a good selection of different dishes, including some house specialties, of which we have now tested 4 and so far we have really enjoyed all of them. The various, tasty types of meat with clearly palatable grilled aromas were always of very good quality and had good cooking points, and we also found the fine side dishes and sauces to be really good and, from our point of view, fresh. The dishes are generous in size and are attractively served to the guests at the table. We think it's a bit of a shame that there isn't a pepper mill on the tables as standard, which we would have expected given the name of the restaurant. The restaurant, which is also busy during the week, offers its guests a nice, simple atmosphere with many traditional Cologne details, especially with reference to the adjacent puppet theater. When the weather is nice, you can also linger on the outdoor terrace along the Heumarkt. The service was friendly and attentive on both visits, and the food has had a pleasant wait so far. Compared to surrounding breweries, we find the food here to be better in terms of taste and quality, which is why we're a little annoyed that we didn't try this restaurant sooner. We can definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant and will happily come back ourselves.

REALLY RUDE AND IMPOLITE!!! We ask to the bartender if we can eat inside and he make us sit at the table. After 5 minutes, a guys, maybe the boss, told us that the bartender know nothing and if we want to eat we couldn't eat inside,but we have to wait outside for a table to free. We were kicked out to eat and wait because inside they already had enough customers even though there were more than six tables available. I did not understand the logic behind the speech that I can eat out, but I can't inside. Moreover I think it's not normal that some people of staff knows what it's possible and others not. Of course we left without eating. Really bad treatment to be a costumers.

Sehr nette Bedienung, et gibt Gaffelkölsch und die Auswahl an Speisen ist sehr schön, es gibt Spezialitäten vom Grill und Vegetarisches, Preise sind auch annehmbar. Zu empfehlen ist Bestemos Sondachsbrode oder das Kartoffelgratin. Kindergerichte stehen nicht auf der Karte, es gibt aber tolle Sachen. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Small and fine restaurant. Service (two people) was a bit confused that day, was apparently not prepared for the rush that day, got better after a while as more service staff came along. Food was hot and delicious. Is recommended.

From my experience, I can say that the tomato soup was mediocre, made probably from the canned tomatoes. Bratwurst was OK, but sauerkraut was so full of alcoholic vinegar that it burned my throat and mouth. The best plate was Gemüsepfanne - I give it 5 stars. The service was good and quick.

The restaurant has a connection to the Hännesche Theater, which lies behind it, and got us in the mood for the puppet evening. The food was great and the local people of Cologne also like to eat here. The waiters are attentive and the atmosphere in the old town is great and a bit away from traffic.

Had a very tasty (and large!) schnitzel here. Prices were decent. Service was fast and very friendly. English was no problem.

We lucked out, getting the last table at 6pm for this popular restaurant. After that, it was completely full and no tables left for about 1 ½ hours. We had #21 and #22– both schnitzel dishes, one with a creamy mushroom sauce, and the other with a mushroom bacon sauce, both over a crispy and tender pork schnitzel. Both were delicious and came with a nicely dressed salad with greens, tomato and cucumber, and hot crispy French fries (chips). Overall, very delicious! Service was good and reasonably attentive. The entrees were only €18, a good value. Go early, or you wont get a table. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Excellent food, delicious dessert, excellent service. We tried the Schweinerückensteak mit Champignonsauce, Pommes una Salat and the dessert Apfelsteudel mit Vanillesobe, delicious.
