Mahmoud's Altstadt in Heidelberg

I have been going to eat there in recent years and they have gone from bad to worse. Today I was there to eat Falafel and literally the sandwich was empty, it has been offering its customers half-empty bread for several years and that makes me very angry. It no longer has the same quality as before. The quantity is minimal and the prices are very high. I will never come back again.

Every time I go there the service is worse, less quantity and more expensive.

It was very busy but they are very efficient and friendly ! We got our food quick and it was hot and fresh! We had the falafel shawarma and the Shawarma mit magali! The Shawarma mit magali was especially good! I have not had it before and wasn’t sure what was in it when I ordered it but wow! What an incredible delight! There was an absolute thunderstorm and we were outside eating! The most lovely ladies tapped to invite us to share their table!

Yesterday I was Heidelberg and tried this restaurant. I bought Falafel in Brot and it was really tasty and fresh. Recommended 💯

Very good falafels! I had the vegetarian plate with baba ganoush, while my friend chose the vegetarian plate with hummus. The falafels were truly delicious, and the tabbouleh was fresh and flavorful. However, I felt the plate could have been better balanced — the molasses dressing reminded me a bit of barbecue sauce, and the dish really needed a touch of acidity to brighten it up. Also, the indoor seating isn’t the most comfortable; sitting outside is likely a better option if the weather allows. One important note: they only accept cash, so make sure to have some on hand. Overall, a good spot for tasty falafel with a few small things to keep in mind.

One of my favourite middle eastern restaurants. First of all super clean and all dishes are tasty and healthy.

Good shop. Normally I don't like shawarma at all. But here they really taste great. The best shawarmas around. Falafel are good too. I also like the atmosphere, it has something chilling about it. Price performance ratio top. I wish you continued success.

Food is super delicious. The service and ambience are just like a snack bar - a bit hectic and crowded. But always a good place for a quick meal!

One of my favourite hidden gems! I go here often (or to their other location) and the food is always fresh and tasty! Mahmoud's has been around for around 20 years and is located in the old town. It is particularly popular with students. We had two special plates (vegan and with shawarma). We enjoyed the food.

It is my favorite place to eat in Heidelberg. I love the falafel here. Tabouli is also good. I liked the tea too. Must visit if you are fan of falafel. There are few seats to sit but in summer one can sit outside. Thats really good.

The shop is a small and warm space. We enjoyed delicious food and relaxed in the Arabic-oriental atmosphere.

A good street restaurant to taste syrian cuisine :) fresh food. We ordered shawarma and magli sandwich. It is delicious and costs only 9 euro. You can enjoy arabic music while eating. :( the place is overcrowded. I recommend it .

Lovely food at a reasonable price

We really enjoy being here and especially recommend the mixed starter plate and falafel with tabbouleh in bread. However, the toilets could be a little cleaner.

Extremely good falafel in the old town

I have always eaten there on Bergheimer Straße and have always been very satisfied. Unfortunately not at all here, I found the sheep's cheese and white sauce to be tasteless this time. This time you weren't asked what you wanted on it, unfortunately I saw too late that the "fresh" cucumbers didn't look nice at all to me, which unfortunately proved true for me in terms of taste, so I didn't finish eating them.

We wanted to get it served on a plate, but later we changed our minds when we saw people eating sandwiches. Wraps are really delicious. The place is small but the ambiance is very nice. It reminded me of my good memories.

I got food poisoning from the food... very unfortunate. The Mahmouds in Bergheim, on the other hand, is great. Better go there.

Delicious Falafel But the waiter was a little impatient when explaining the food and how to order.

I visited the restaurant and unfortunately didn't have a particularly positive experience. The food was OK, but nothing special - just average. It didn't impress me and I got the impression that the quality didn't match the restaurant's reputation. However, what was really unpleasant was the way the staff - especially the operator - treated female guests. It seemed unprofessional and inappropriate, which unfortunately left a negative impression. I think friendliness and respect should be a given in the catering industry. Overall, my visit was disappointing and I wouldn't necessarily recommend the restaurant.

Maybe tell people that "mit alles" includes a bitter sauce that makes the falafel much less enjoyable for the ones who don't expect it.

We ate lentil soup and falafel menu for 2 and it was so fresh with all ingredients. Also the portion was really big we couldn't finish it. Its a good spot for a street food.

Mahmoud Falafel in Heidelberg is simply fantastic! The mixed shawarma platter is an absolute must - a great combination of perfectly seasoned shawarma, crispy falafel, fresh tabbouleh, creamy hummus and delicious baba ghanoush. Every component is full of flavor, and you immediately notice the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The service is super friendly and the atmosphere invites you to linger. Absolutely recommended for lovers of authentic oriental cuisine!

Good food in itself, but I have a gluten intolerance and the special plate is reduced to a maximum of half the portion if you choose the gluten-free version. However, the price remains the same and in this case is absolutely excessive. It would really be fair to fill the plate with a few more vegetables and salad.

We ordered a falafel and a shawarma box to take away. There was a maggot crawling around in the shawarma box. We tried calling the restaurant to report the problem because we were always happy otherwise, but after several attempts no one answered.

I just paid with card, waited, took my food and started eating, then one of the workers comes up to me and says that the payment didn't work. I check my bank account and the money is gone. That's just ugly.

Mediocre food, musty service and dirty toilets!

Maybe the only restaurant that doesn't sell alcohol among other "halal restaurants". Great people and great food and the greatest choice for muslims. Shawarma was very delicious and the portion was big.

We ended up here purely by chance. Strolled through the old town of Heidelberg and spontaneously satisfied our hunger. Short and sweet. The falafel are excellent. Keep it up.

A Lebanese snack bar with absolutely delicious oriental dishes for self-collection, which can also be eaten at the beer table furniture before the snack.

Small, fine snack. As we walked past, we admired the beautifully prepared plates and then came here later to eat. Both falafel plates and the mixed plates were extremely good, for around €13. Quantity was more than enough. We sat comfortably outside. Inside it is rather narrow and just like any other snack bar.

Great food, the only thing I felt was a little off was that the only warm food item were the falafel. Would have been perfect if the zucchini etc were also warm. Overall delicious and warmly recommended.

All in all, it's been very good here for years! Despite price increases, a good price-performance ratio. And some things taste really delicious, especially the combination plates... Just a little criticism: It irritates me that the tables aren't cleaned often enough. Music is sometimes very loud. The shawarma box often has completely different ingredients than before. This should be more reliable and if something isn't there and you get something else instead, that should be addressed. Nevertheless, I always like to come back. Best regards

I always enjoyed coming here until I noticed that the employees have a lack of hygiene when it comes to eating and preparing the food... the employee collects money, wears a glove on only one hand and then folds the wraps with his bare hand and the glove, both of which touched and cleaned the money and the cash register and the surfaces... Absolutely no go! I ran out again 😔

Arabic fast food. Food freshly prepared, tasty, reasonable prices, very friendly service. Not at ground level, toilet in the back yard not easy to reach. Also tables outside.

This is amazing. Holy moly. Really delicious sauces, and hummus. Super crispy and fresh falafel. Combination is amazing. It’s fresh, it’s crunchy, it’s sauvory, it’s perfect. But just as good are the people who serve you here, lovely, friendly and down to earth.

Price performance was just OK for the special plate

Tried the store because of the good reviews. I have to honestly say my expectations were exceeded. The falafel in combination with the hummus and the salad is absolutely amazing. The shawarma was very good. The meat was well seasoned and nice and juicy. There was a lot going on when we were there. Nevertheless, we were able to place our order quickly and received the food in a reasonable time. The service at the checkout was friendly and nice. A bit hectic because there was a lot going on, but understandable. Price-performance ratio fits. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Heidelberg to eat here again. I can only recommend.

The falafel was OK, but could be better. The salad wasn't very fresh. It was very dry, could use more juicy salad and sauce.

The place wasn't so bad and the food wasn't very horrible as well. But how one of the unfriendly staff was acting weird and disrespectful was definitely disappointing. I was asking for a plate and tried to ask what I would prefer but wasn’t even given the chance to talk, and when I asked him to not put something, he just put it anyway. I would never go there again and don’t recommend anyone who doesn’t like to be disrespected. The place wasn't that bad and the food wasn't that terrible either. But the way one of the rude employees behaved strangely and disrespectfully was definitely disappointing. I ordered a plate and tried to ask what I would prefer but I didn't even get the chance to talk and when I didn't want something he added it anyway. Absolute recommendation The food tastes fresh and absolutely delicious.

The food was good. It's something different. Here it comes. The toilets were a brutal shock for me. I thought I was in Syria, it looked so run down there. I saw on a cooking show that you should check whether the toilets in the restaurants are reasonably hygienic. If that's not the case, it could be similar with the hygiene of the kitchen. Afterwards I told myself: if I don't get food poisoning the next day then it's fine.

You can perhaps put up with bad-tempered service staff, tables sticky, strange backyard toilets, but if the hummus tastes like it was made by a beginner, then you'll be very disappointed. Hummus without garlic, without cumin, without olive oil; loveless and bland.

When it came to the shwarma platter, I forgot to say that it was made vegan. However, when it came to the salad, I said vegan please. Abud still served us meat on our plate. When asked, he reacted aggressively, insulted me and yelled at me in front of my family. Other guests supported me. His colleague, in turn, was very friendly and arbitrated. I assume that Abud has something against people who want to avoid animal suffering. This kind of behavior in sales is an absolute no-go!

Had falafel with maqali in bread. No one was listened to and it was not possible to make your own choice of sauce/requests. The wrap was also cold. The only positive thing was the large vegetarian and partly vegan selection.
