Great location, centrally located in the old town. Very clean. Very friendly staff. Fresh scrambled or fried eggs are offered for breakfast and are delicious. Great stay.

The room was good if you don't mind the little things (see photo). Breakfast was tasty, but far from an appealing buffet. The staff seemed irritated and overwhelmed.

The location is great. You can reach the old town in just two minutes on foot. The service from the staff in the breakfast room was wonderful. However, I was disappointed by the waiter who served outside. We were there as hotel guests on a Saturday afternoon and wanted a white wine. This white wine, by the way, cost €9.50 per glass for 0.2 liters. When I asked to sit at one of the tables, I was directed to a narrow wooden bench where it was impossible to sit properly, which was very uncomfortable and painful for me as a severely disabled person. I would have understood if the tables had been occupied, but all seven of these tables were unoccupied. So, it would have been perfectly acceptable to let us sit on a cushion to enjoy a white wine, even if they were already set for dinner. Too bad, service doesn't look that good to me. 😕😕

I'm only writing about the restaurant here. For us, it's been one of the most beautiful places we've visited for years. A quiet and sophisticated atmosphere, incredibly friendly service, fresh, delicious food from a small, fine menu, a great wine selection, and reasonable prices. We've been guests there many times, have never been disappointed, and hope for many more years at Restaurant Backmulde!

Yes, not overly trendy cuisine. But consistently good quality. And you don't sit so close together. Always a pleasure to visit.

Con su mezcla de cocina de temporada y estándares disfrutamos de una buena comida de ragout de venado, Spätzle (fideos alemanes) y verduras seguido de dumpling de plomada y salsa. Excelente selección de cervezas y vinos locales, así como vinos buscados de más lejos. Excelente servicio del amable propietario y anfitrión. Todos tuvieron una gran experiencia... gracias!

My wife and I found this hotel to be well located, with an excellent breakfast and great service.

We've been staying at the Backmulde every Christmas for many years. It's a cozy little hotel with plenty of charm in the heart of the old town. Old walls, but modern rooms (without carpeting, which I very much appreciate) and bathrooms, a decent breakfast, and very friendly staff. All at a fair price. We'll be back.

Very good location. Clean. The room was large and comfortable. What annoyed me a bit was breakfast. Very minimalistic. Weren't there even eggs? You had to order that. No coffee machine. The lady was completely overwhelmed because she did breakfast, reception, washing up and everything herself.... This meant we waited 25 minutes just for coffee. Although there were three of us sitting and there were no other guests there. Cheap hotels even had much better breakfasts. Unfortunately the price is only because of the location.. The room was very noisy, I heard the girls in the room opposite laughing all night, so if you're away on the weekend you can expect little sleep.

Visited in July. 3 night stay. Hotel very well located, not only in the center historic, but also between the main pedestrian street and the banks of the Neckar, while remaining very calm, astonishing! The icing on the cake, it has parking - depending on availability, the number of places being limited - for a consistent additional cost. But be careful, you will have to opt for walking routes instead. (purpose of stay) because the access is narrow for everyday use, the departure in reverse was rock'n'roll! (sedan 464 x 186). The exterior setting is really pleasant with a large courtyard which also offers a terrace, and beautifully unified two-tone buildings. The room was spacious, in a more neutral modern style, with a small sofa, the window overlooking the said courtyard. The limited space in the bathroom is particularly optimized. The breakfast was complete, served in a warm-style room. Taken for dinner the "chicken saltimbanque with tomato and broccoli risotto", appreciated by Monsieur, moderately by Madame, a matter of taste. Welcome professional and neutral.

The hotel is very centrally located in the old town. We have a nice big room. The staff is friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the breakfast is just average. Too bad

We did not stay at this hotel, but we had dinner there twice. The service is excellent and the staff very friendly. The chef cooks pretty well without too much fuss. The small courtyard where dinner is served is a quiet space that allows you to disconnect from the crowded main street. Recommended.

I celebrated my wedding in the Backmulde restaurant last Friday. Everything worked out exactly as we wanted. Mr. Schneider gave us wonderful advice, responded quickly and made great suggestions based on his experience. The dishes at the wedding reception were honest, very tasty and of high quality. The service was friendly, attentive and not intrusive. It was a perfect day with you for us. A very big thank you to Mr. Schneider, the chef and the team in the kitchen and in service. I can highly recommend eating in the Baking Hollow or planning a celebration there!

The hotel is located in the middle of the old town - perfect! At first glance the hotel is nice, but upon closer inspection little things become apparent. For example, there are two different bed sheets (one very thin with holes, the other of a completely different quality), different cups, the rugs in the hallway in front of the rooms are very dirty/stained and worn. Our bathroom had a bathtub in which we had to shower, which is no longer up to date. The furniture is also rather older. The service is very attentive and friendly. The breakfast is fine, everything you need, scrambled eggs/fried eggs are freshly prepared as desired.

Good location. No extras in the room at all. No coffee or tea in the morning. Coffee could not be brought to the room from breakfast. Never experienced that before. Very unfriendly staff.

Excellent location for excursions in Heidelberg. No parking spaces. Staff unfriendly (when I asked how long my warm milk would take, the answer was: “Until it’s warm!”) Breakfast was rather poor for the price (not much choice, hard eggs every morning, no espresso, no coffee specialties). We had the worn, old rooms on the ground floor. Not justified for the price either.

What a delightful surprise. This little place brings you to the heart of old town Heidelberg. Shops, restaurants, the river and all the wonders of Heidelberg are right here. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable, and clean. Staff is wonderful. Breakfast is simple but a lot to sample with made to order eggs, fresh bread, cheeses, meats, fruit, yogurt, coffee and several teas.

In the middle of Heidelberg's old town. The staff is friendly and on the ball. Cozy yet upscale atmosphere. The food and drinks are highly recommended. Especially the wine list! But not for bargain hunters.

When we arrived in our brand new car and unable to find a suitable parking place the recetionist on duty created one in the court yard. Breakfast and service are very good. The location can't be better...right on Hauptstrasse in the middle of the Alt Stadt, five minutes from everywhere. Why the room got 4 and not 5* is because the bed was to soft to our liking. After being out all day we came back in a very clean room, thank you housekeeping. Don't forget to use their restaurant, the food is out of this world. Thank you for a wonderful stay❣️

Heidelberg is a beautiful city. The stay in the baking trough was by no means pleasant for me. The room was ok, but not comfortable! Very outdated and unkempt as well as hair residue on the toilet in the bathroom which I find very disgusting. The breakfast was also not inviting and the coffee was undrinkable. The staff was friendly. Not recommended for me.

Hotel located in the middle of the old town, 50 meters from the pedestrian zone. 5 minutes on foot to the Neckar, 10 minutes to the “Old Bridge”. Located in a backyard and therefore very quiet. Beautiful, modern rooms with high-quality furniture. Well-equipped bathroom with walk-in shower. Elevator available. Breakfast clear, but everything you need. Egg dishes are freshly prepared. Super friendly staff. You just feel like you're in good hands! 😊 All in all a great value for money. We will definitely come back again.

Finally back in the baking trough. For us there is nothing else in Heidelberg. This unobtrusive attention, picco bello clean and a good breakfast. What more do you want. The prices in Heidelberg are not that high in this category.

I think it's certainly a nice hotel in a central location, but unfortunately due to the staff shortage, the service falls by the wayside. Our room was OK and clean, but unfortunately it didn't have a window. Breakfast was OK

Great location (200m to the main street in the city center), very quiet despite the city center location, very large and clean rooms and a good breakfast. We found a parking space on a side street, otherwise there are plenty of parking garages. Clear recommendation and gladly again.

Tolles Hotel und sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter. Zimmer war sauber und geräumig. Frühstück war super und völlig ausreichend. Klasse war das frische Spiegelei. Klare Empfehlung!

Eine sehr aufmerksame und freundliche Bedienung brachte uns in ruhigem und entspanntem Ambiente ein Perlhuhnschenkel und Kanichenvariationen. Das Restaurant verdient Aufmerksamkeit!

Ich habe meinen Mann hier hin eingeladen zu seinem Geburtstag. Es sollte etwas besonderes und leckeres sein. Und was soll ich sagen, wie wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das Menü und die weinempfehlung war super lecker und alles passte gut zusammen. Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Abend hier und kommen gerne wieder.

Wir wohnen schon länger in Heidelberg, waren heute aber zum ersten Mal in der Backmulde. Angenehmes Ambiente, freundlicher Service, sehr leckere Vorspeisen und Desserts. Die Qualität der Hauptspeisen (Hirschgulasch, Tafelspitz) war exzellent. Wir werden sicher wiederkommen.

Ich hatte am 6. Oktober in dem Hotel ein Zimmer reserviert. Aufgrund einer Operation bin ich längerfristig auf Krücken angewiesen. Bei einer telefonischen Nachfrage ob ich einen der vier Stellplätze zur Verfügung gestellt bekomme wurde mir dies verwehrt. Ich empfinde dieses Verhalten als schwer diskriminierend.

Für unseren Hochzeitstag hatten wir einen Tisch für zwei Personen draußen reserviert. Dieser stand bei unserer Ankunft jedoch nicht zur Verfügung. Wir mussten warten, bis uns zwei harte Metallstühle ohne Sitzpolster gerichtet wurden. Der Vorspeisensalat war gut, aber mit 9,80 € hinsichtlich der Portionsgröße völlig überteuert. Danach folgten viel zu weich gekochte Tagliatelle (für mich) und in Fett ertränkte Bratkartoffeln (für meine Frau). Schade, keine feierliche Atmosphäre im zugeparkten Innenhof eines unterklassigen Restaurants.
