Mahadosa in Hamburg

Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und bekamen auch ohne Reservierung einen komodigen Tisch. (Wir waren spontan dort und somit kann ich nicht sagen, ob man reservieren sollte). Die Karten kamen flott an den Tisch und auch auf die Getränke brauchten wir nicht lange warten. Da indisches Essen ja von Haus aus scharf ist, habe ich um eine milde Variante gebeten und das war gar kein Problem. Das Essen schmeckte uns sehr gut und das Naanbrot ist super lecker. Preis - Leistung ist völlig in Ordnung. Das Restaurant ist einen Besuch wert. Vielen Dank.

Ein echter Geheimtipp für indisches Essen in Hamburg. Sehr leckeres und authentisches indisches Restaurant.

Es war etwas warm im Inneren, ich wünschte, es gäbe Ventilatoren. Insgesamt war die Dosa aber recht gut.

Unweit der Reeperbahn gelegen, versprüht dieses Lokal eine angenehme Kerzenlichtatmosphäre. Die Verwendung von getrockneten Chilischoten ist in Ordnung. Die Jalebis hingegen könnten besser sein, sie scheinen vom Vortag zu sein.

Wir waren heute mit der Familie da, um den Geburtstag meiner Mutter zu feiern. Das Essen war super lecker!! Das Team war auch sehr zuvorkommend. Wir hatten einen Kuchen dabei, welcher auf Anfrage sogar im Kühlschrank gelagert wurde. Später kam das Highlight! Den Kuchen haben die mit Kerzen und Wunderkerze on top dekoriert. Wir waren sehr glücklich über diese liebevolle Geste✨☺️ vielen Dank! Ein evtl kleiner Punkt zur Verbesserung: Der indische Tee war sehr bitter. Man konnte die Gewürze nicht so herausschmecken.

Ich habe ihre Spezial-Dosa probiert. Sie verwenden sehr viel Käse (ansonsten ist es nur eine normale Masala-Dosa). Nicht empfehlenswert. Die anderen Dosas sind gut.

Ich liebe indische Restaurants – aber dieses hier ist etwas Besonderes. Eine authentische Atmosphäre des kolonialen Indiens: Details, Einrichtung und Stimmung sind mit viel Gefühl umgesetzt und wirken nicht künstlich. Man spürt, dass hier eine echte Idee dahintersteht, nicht nur Küche. Das Lassi ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben – genau so soll es sein. Ich komme bald zum Abendessen wieder. Möge euch der Segen eurer Götter begleiten!!

Authentisch indisches Essen, super Service, faire Preise und zudem noch hundefreundlich! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Es ist toll, wenn die Speisekarte eines europäischen indischen Restaurants nicht mit Chicken Tikka Masala beginnt und nicht mit Lamm Vindaloo endet. Ich habe zuletzt vor acht Jahren in Indien Dosa gegessen; es war schön, sie wieder zu genießen. Die Aromen erinnerten uns auch nicht an die durchschnittliche, langweilige europäisch-indische Küche. Ein absolutes Muss!

Das Essen war wie immer köstlich. Die Sitzplätze im Untergeschoss waren viel zu eng. Am schlimmsten war aber, dass wir die Rechnung geteilt haben und der erste Bezahler 5 € Trinkgeld gab. Der Kellner hat dann automatisch jedem weiteren Gast 5 € Trinkgeld auf die Rechnung gesetzt, ohne ihn zu fragen. Das ist höchst unprofessionell.

Wirklich eines der schönsten Restaurants, die ich kenne. Das Essen ist eine 10/10 und die Angestellten sind super super nett! Man fühlt sich richtig heimisch! 🫶✨

So tolles leckeres Essen. Die veganen Gerichte waren besonders lecker.

Wir hatten uns wirklich auf südindische Küche gefreut, da wir bisher immer nur nordindisch essen waren. Leider hat uns und unseren Freunden das Essen nicht geschmeckt. Die Vorspeisenplatte bestand nur aus stark frittiertem Gemüse, teils wirklich undefinierbar. Danach hatten 3 von uns sich für ein Dosa-Gericht entschieden. Totale Enttäuschung. Die Kartoffel-Käsefüllung hatte keine Gewürze, keinen indischen Geschmack. Es schmeckte wie Kartoffelstampf mit zuviel Goudakäse. Das andere Dosa war mit Paneer gefüllt und sonst nichts - trocken wie Hulle, kein Geschmack. Totale Enttäuschung. Das Personal war nett und freundlich. Wir saßen da gute 2 Stunden uns mussten uns bemerkbar machen um ein weiteres Getränk zu bestellen. Könnte aufmerksamer sein. Wir werden leider nicht wieder kommen.

Das Essen ist für seine Qualität nicht preiswert.

Ich kann mich den positiven Bewertungen nur anschließen. Es ist sehr gemütlich. Die Bedienung ist sehr zuvorkommend und es hat uns sehr gefreut, dass das Lokal zu Silvester geöffnet hat.

The atmosphere is good but the food quantity does not justify the price they charge for. The food taste is more towards south indian food and in that view it taste good. The staff and their service is great but they do not accept card and ask for cash payment. Kindly keep the cash while visiting the resturant. I would love to be there again when I would crave to eat the south indian food.

The food was passable, but overpriced for the quality. Unfortunately, the staff was constantly on the phone and very inattentive. (They said candles weren't lit until the afternoon, and they refused to serve tap water). When we refused to leave a tip due to the poor service, we were completely ignored.

I tried Mysore masala dosa here it's really taste like as you taste it in India and the chutneys are good.

Really good Indian food. I had chicken chettinadu with rice and it was very authentic. Two chefs are from Kerala, so I'm assuming their dosa game is also strong. Highly recommended if you are an Indian in Europe, craving for some homely food at an affordable price.

I miss South Indian food and was so surprised to find one on Hamburg. The food was better than expected. It tasted amazing, like a dosa you will get in India. It remided me of home. Do try :)

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't good (I can only rate the order). The dal is extremely greasy, not at all authentic, and tastes of nothing – we had to add a lot of salt to get any flavor at all. Perhaps the dosas here are better – but it's a shame that dal doesn't work as a basic Indian dish here... 2 stars because at least the chutney was okay. Unfortunately, very disappointed.

Nice southern Indian restaurant

Anyone who enjoys Indian food will definitely get their money's worth here. Quietly located in the heart of the neighborhood, the service was immediately attentive. We were able to sit outside; it was quite quiet, with little traffic despite the proximity to the road. A wide selection of delicious dosas, the lassi was wonderfully fresh, and after the meal, you get a mix of fennel seeds, anise, a light sweetness, and more – for your stomach. I'd definitely go back!

Delicious south Indian food. We ordered Chicken roast, a lamb dish, porotta and kulfi for dessert. Everything tasted authentic and really good. Will try again happily. Contrary to most Indian restaurants in Germany, they have managed to keep the taste close to home. Kudos to that.

A typical South Indian restaurant. It is authentic although the taste would have been better. Sambar is not how it should be. Prices are reasonable and quantity is also adequate. If you are craving idly or dosa then this place would be a redemption for you.

I am forced to write this review because of the behaviour of the German speaking waiter. He does not know what customer service looks like. I had a simple question about the ingredients of the food and he shot back saying -"this is how indian food looks like." For context I am Indian myself. Since I have food intolerance and allergies I simply wanted to know more about what I was eating. The German speaking waiter wearing black t-shirt did not want to say anything and said "you should read the menu carefully." After this I did read the menu to check if it was my mistake and saw that it wasn't as the menu was not clarifying the information I was asking. I called him again and he told me that "they serve authentic south indian food so I should not ask any more questions." In this situation an Indian man who identified as the cook came out and I explained the situation to him. He answered my questions nicely and switched the dishes. This man also gave us complimentary dessert. Finally the first guy came to clear out the plates and screamed at the top of his voice how "we had already received more than enough from them because my dish was switched and dessert was given." And that "we should be grateful to them for this". This whole experience was terrible. I would not have written here if this one waiter had not been so disrespectful. There were other minor issues like unclean washroom, no soap for washing hands etc. But this was fixed by another indian man working at the restaurant. I am still suffering from the food intolerance today morning after yesterday's dinner as I had consumed 30% of the first dish. 4 stars for the food because they switched my plate and also the other people working at the restaurant are rather nice.

Service and atmosphere totally good. For the food which was severed definitely not recommended. Uthappam, masala Tea, Puri definitely not recommended. Chutney quantity in a restaurant that serves South Indian food is a failure. Chutneys are the vital in South Indian breakfast.

Wow, sooooo delicious. We eat a lot of Indian food, but this was our first time having South Indian food. Very friendly staff. Armchairs at the tables make you sink into them, but luckily there are also chairs. Everyone can have their own preference. Lots of tables, yet a cozy atmosphere. We'll be back 💪

We came here by chance and were thrilled. The place isn't too big and has a very cozy interior. The service was excellent. We got our food super quickly, and it tasted absolutely amazing. The dosas are incredibly delicious. The prices are fair and reasonable. I'll definitely be back! Plus: You can order mild, hot, or Indian hot (which is what we did), and it's really nice and spicy.

The portion was tiny – the stew was overcooked. Yellow sauce with half a potato (cut into three small pieces) and rice for €13.50. Server: "Complain to the manager, sometimes you get your money back."

We visited Maha dosa to celebrate my husband’s birthday. But the entire evening was a disaster. Food was inedible. Dosas were too thick, very dry. There is no difference between Mysore masala dosa and normal dosa(even though they made it with red chutney) chutneys were the worst without any taste with just artificial colors. Aloo tikki was dry and felt like frozen. We couldn’t finish any of our dish including the drinks. As they were dry and started choking. As a south indian- I recommend everyone to avoid this place and save your money.

Please note, only cash is accepted. We received a very friendly welcome. The restaurant is colorful and decorated with vintage furniture. You have to like it. My girlfriend was thrilled with it. The service was quick and nice. The food was very tasty. We ate bread with different chutneys, a jackfruit dish and dosa. We'd love to come back! Prices are really okay.

Food was fine, not very bad nor very good. The service was also ok, but we asked for a plate 3 times and by the time it came the fine was over. But the server was very rude, and at the end told my friend that the tip was lesser than he expected (we said that we didn’t like the food too much, and he said that’s not the server’s problem, and then rejected the tip). Unfortunately I am very disappointed. I was there a few weeks ago on a Saturday, all the shops nearby were full, which is why we chose this restaurant. Unfortunately the shop was full, but a very nice young gentleman at the front of the reception got us a table. Problem= the table was for 6 people and there were three of us. The young gentleman said it would work and another, older waiter was visibly angry about his decision and tried to persuade him not to give us the table. But the young man insisted and took us down to a very nice place. The older gentleman (gray clothes, beard, gray hair with a braid.) Served us. The dish I chose cost €15.50. When I placed my order, I immediately asked for less than 2 seconds whether the dish was spicy. The gentleman became visibly angry and said to me, "Yes, that's spicy", but I had ordered it now and couldn't cancel it and now I have to buy it. I was shocked by the way he spoke to me and tried to explain, stuttering, that I can't eat anything spicy and I asked directly. He took off without letting me finish and I sat there and was absolutely shocked at what happened. After 5 minutes he comes back. He apologizes and says he was disrespectful, why else would I want him. I was happy again and chose a dish that he said wasn't spicy. It cost €13.50. Food arrives, I've never eaten anything so spicy in my life, of course I didn't finish it, but I didn't say anything because I just didn't want to be stressed. My friends try it and also think that it is outrageously spicy, because I was given a special exchange for it. We go up to pay and I had already planned not to give a tip because it was all too stupid for me and my friends had given enough. HAHA but no. I give the old man €15 and expect my change, he claims I have to give him €15.50 (price of the dish that I didn't get/eat). Without listening to another word from me, he packed up my money, quickly tried to explain to me that I ordered the first one and even if I didn't eat it, I have to pay for it and then says to me, yes, okay, then €15 is okay and we'll forget the 50 cents, I'm looking at him perplexed and wanted to start at that moment and say, "hey, I'm not going to be taken for a ride, I'm not paying for anything I haven't eaten" but then he ran away and didn't listen to what I had to say about it. (I think it's clear to everyone that they put it in their pants as a tip and of course you can't do something like that with guests in a restaurant) I was sooooo shocked by this experience and the fact that he "stole" my money so to speak that I just wanted out and didn't want to start the discussion. After that I decided to write a review. I wish the young gentleman from the beginning had served us and I hadn't made a complete loss of €15 because the food wasn't what I was promised. Overall, I am very disappointed and would never eat here again. But I know that this happened on the old man's whim and I hope that he pulls himself together and doesn't rip off other people.

Wonderful place that allows the visitor to immerse themselves in a fairytale land. The friendliness together with the Ayurvedic cuisine is a wonderful combination. Anyone who has a taste will feel very comfortable here. You can sit both inside and outside. In the lower area there is also a huge hall that is also ideal for larger groups. Indian cuisine is easy for me anyway because I like to cook Indian food at home. I just like the spices and flavors. If you like, you can also look into Ayurvedic history. The cuisine has a medicinal variant and is tailored to each type. But if it goes beyond the normal range, you'll have to do a little Googling yourself

Very lovely Indian restaurant with amazing food and super kind people working here! We came here twice during our Hamburg trip and will be back for sure if we ever visit Hamburg. It’s super vegan friendly and there are looooads of options to choose from. Highly recommended!

We had a great family birthday party in the restaurant. Everything was as agreed and worked out great. The food was great and there was something for everyone (we had vegetarians with us). The food was delicious, but this service would make me think twice about coming back. The waiter “Mo” was extremely unfriendly and treated us with a certain arrogance. The first question we were asked was “How long do you want to stay?” and before we finished and drank we were asked if we wanted to get the bill now. He also treated the guests at the next table very rudely. When we talked a little louder, Mo replied that it wasn't our living room. This ruined our celebratory mood. Even though the other waiters were very nice and accommodating, Mo unfortunately ruined the experience. We are used to different service from the other “Maha” restaurants.

Poor service specially towards indians. We asked them twice for mango lassi, then we waited for half an hour they did not bring it. We saw when other people were getting their bill paid, the staff gave them yellow colored drinks in shot glasses and mouth freshener. But when we paid they gave us nothing. Only because we were indians?? Pathetic. They were serving these shots and all to every other person which was not indian. We successfully wasted our half an hour for mango lassi which they did not bring to us ever. We ordered dosas for 2 of us, they were good.

The quality of food has degraded over time. Try out dosas, but try deserts at your own risk. The desert provided were not so fresh.

The two of us stayed at the Mahadosa spontaneously without a reservation and were treated extremely courteously by all the staff. The atmosphere is cozy, even romantic, with lots of candlelight and indirect or darkened lighting. The service is friendly, helpful and quick. We enjoyed every meal excellently! We will definitely come back next time we are in Hamburg!

Very bad food, I suffered from food poisoning. They served cold food.
