A very cozy café/restaurant with a large selection of food and drinks. Very friendly staff.

Everything was great. Would gladly come again.

The food is delicious and of good quality, but relatively expensive and the service isn't always optimal. If you have time, it's a great place for brunch.

The mezze were simply unbelievably good!

For many years, I've been going to Café Leonar every now and then, and I've never regretted it—until October 22, 2025. We get a table reserved for four, even though there are only two of us because we can't stay long due to an event. The drinks arrive promptly, and then we wait and wait, and after a good 40 minutes, we tell the waitress that we'll have to leave soon. Then the food arrives. I have rump of lamb with salad and fries. I would need a hammer and chisel for the herb butter served instead of a sauce. Seriously, the lump of ice resists my attempts to break it up with a knife—albeit in vain. Finally, I manage to place a morsel on the meat, which is barely room temperature. I eat the salad, give the butter a chance to melt, to coat the dry meat. To no avail. Then the friendly waitress asks if everything is satisfactory. I decline, using a similar description written here. "I can take it back to the kitchen to warm it up!" I decline, somewhat panicked at the time wasted, and ask for the bill. And that's it. No offer of kindness, no espresso, no liqueur, no schnapps – nothing. We leave and just manage to snag the last two free seats in the last row of the hall, which unfortunately have no number. A quarter of an hour earlier, we could have sat up front. We were on our way early enough, after all.

I go there often for lunch. And the food is always delicious.

A very nicely decorated café. We've been here twice because the food was so impressive the first time! This time we had a panini and a tea. Both were delicious. The panini was a bit small for the price, or rather, too expensive. The service was very friendly, and the outdoor seating was cozy. I'd love to come back!

Cozy, pizza and fennel saffron soup fantastic

Not only did we enjoy excellent food here, but we were also discreetly and excellently looked after. We struck up a relaxed conversation with the neighbors, and it's a great place to spot people. Simply amazing.

I was very satisfied. It looks delicious in the photo, and it is delicious. The surroundings are lively and interesting.

The lunch menu is delicious – I tried the pizza for the first time – also great because they have a proper pizza oven for it. I can recommend it, as well as anything the chef conjures up :-) The waffles are super delicious! Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo – not yet... Ginger tea is also delicious! Nice ambiance, with a large terrace, cozy, and no cell reception :-)

I've had shakshuka in Tel Aviv before, and that was good, but the "shakshuka, 3 eggs in paprika-tomato sauce, spinach & feta, homemade bread" at Café Leonar was, unfortunately, less so: Shakshuka is prepared with a poached egg, and the 3 eggs here seem to be... scrambled or something similar, rather than being cooked whole in the sauce. Also, the espresso was lukewarm. We liked the ambiance and the service, and we felt very comfortable at Café Leonar—especially considering the noise level.

A special place, delicious food.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined. The risotto was salty, the Wiener schnitzel was perfect, but the accompanying potato salad was bland and dry. It used to be one of my favorite places, partly because of the cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Everything was delicious! The service was very friendly! Greatly restored, even for breakfast! 👍🏻🙂

Very friendly service and a simply lovely café with a selection of dishes. Highly recommended for breakfast, lunch, or just a coffee!

A longtime favorite of mine. The selection isn't as extensive anymore, and the food quality is unfortunately not as good. The egg dishes at breakfast have lost some of their charm; the egg in the shakshuka is completely curdled, and the scrambled eggs are actually an omelet ("that's how we make scrambled eggs"). We'll still happily stop by for coffee, but we'll be going somewhere else for breakfast in the future.

As always, excellent Levantine cuisine, friendly service, and a special atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We really liked the pleasant and lively atmosphere. The food isn't exactly cheap, but it's very decent. The shakshuka was really good, and we also liked the mezze platter. However, the selection could be a bit larger and more varied.

Actually one of my favorite cafés in Grindel. But the price-performance ratio is simply no longer right. Ordered a panini, got half of it and paid 10 (!) euros for it.

Friendly service, but unfortunately far too crowded and too loud to sit down. ...Conversation is not possible here because people are almost sitting on top of each other. There are more cozy cafes nearby

Café Leonar has by far the best pizzas in Hamburg!!! The pizza tuna with fillet pieces is awesome. There were problems with the delivery with Lieferando. A phone call and the boss personally brought the pizza and added two drinks. Despite the delivery difficulties, you convinced me: great quality and the nice feeling that you really care about your customers! Thank you very much and I'll come to the restaurant next time. :-)

Have mixed feelings: cake and coffee were good. Otherwise we felt very uncomfortable because we were put in a reading and working corner where there was deathly silence. There was no music playing in the café either. So you couldn't or didn't want to have a conversation like that because you seemed to disturb the "workful peace" of others and you didn't want everyone to overhear your own conversation. Everything was somehow so unpleasant that we quickly drank and left. We wouldn't come back, even if the cake was good. But the atmosphere was too depressing for us unfortunately...

We were at Cafe Leonar with a small group on January 18, 2025. Unfortunately, we did not have good experiences on several levels. The service was unfriendly and extremely unreliable. Drink orders were chronically forgotten. The food tasted good, but was cold when it was served. After the complaint, the dishes were “only” warmed up. The main course was like a “small appetizer”. No apology and no accommodation with the bill. To present poor service and cold mini portions at this high price level is an outrage.

We ate the Shakshuka and it was really amazing! Perfectly cooked and very nice service 🤗

We made a reservation some time ago. Although several tables were free, we were seated at a table that hadn't been wiped down in an uninviting spot that wasn't exactly comfortable for my husband, who has mobility problems. The waitress didn't explain this behavior in a friendly way. Something like this wouldn't have happened at Leonard before! We then left the restaurant without ordering.

I like this place. It's a little cosmopolitan, at least for Hamburg. It's just a real shame that some of the food doesn't say whether it's vegetarian. And then suddenly you have chestnut soup with meat. Not cool 😞

A nice restaurant in the Grindelviertel. Good and inexpensive card. The mezze, lemonade and ice cream were very tasty. For my taste it is a bit noisy and the tables are quite narrow. A bit strenuous for an intensive conversation. Still recommended.

After a small hearty lunch, Shakshuka is highly recommended, seamless with coffee and cheesecake, incredibly delicious. The service is wide awake and the atmosphere is invigorating.

Good food but the poached eggs came super hard and lukewarm. I expect someyhibg different for these prices. Also the staff did not come to check if everything was fine.

Super delicious food, from breakfast to lunch to pizza - everyone will find something for themselves here at any time of the day! Lenny also makes really cool cocktails like Espresso Martini or Negroni. Just ask and the magic will be done - absolute recommendation.

A café with two rooms in the Grindel district. Comfortably furnished. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were there on Saturday lunchtime. The Shashuka looks delicious, but lacks flavor and tomato-like sweetness. But she was very hot. Coffee and cake delicious. There is also a bar service in the evenings.

Nice staff, but very small portions and high prices

I went to Café Leonar for both breakfast and dinner and loved it every time! Every single dish impresses in its own special way! It was always super tasty! A great ambience and very friendly and attentive staff round off your visit here! The café is recommended and definitely worth a visit! Many thanks to the team and Lenni, I always enjoy coming back!

The breakfast from Tel Aviv was great. The hummus was spicy and the salad was also very, very tasty.

It's really a great cafe that's open all day. However, if you are looking for a place to have breakfast in the morning, you should either make a reservation and come as soon as it opens, because all the places go quickly. Eating breakfast there is incredibly enjoyable. The ambience is why and pleasant, the employees there are very warm and accommodating. The quality of the food is simply great. I really enjoy being here, far away from the hustle and bustle of other parts of Hamburg or the city center.

I had a bagel with lox that tasted very simple. It was incredibly uncreative and very expensive, so in my opinion the price-performance ratio wasn't right.

Had a lovely brunch here. Got the falafel plate and the pita was a bit stale but other than that it was delicious. Portions are quite generous which makes the prices worth it. Vibes are good as well

An enrichment in the Grindelviertel. Everything is perfect here: brand new are Neapolitan pizzas from a special oven in the back of the restaurant. A daily changing lunch menu and home-baked cakes round off the offering. Be sure to reserve from 6 p.m. and on Sundays for breakfast. Service was very attentive and friendly throughout.

We had lunch at Leonar yesterday. The pumpkin risotto with goat cheese was very good. The falafel too. However, the falafel side dishes were very sparingly portioned for the price; a small salad or tabbouleh would have enhanced the plate and would certainly still be within the price range. The service brings the order to the table, but that's it. We ordered a pot of tea for two. Two cups, a saucer and a spoon were brought for two people...) and they weren't brought back, that's fine too, isn't it?

This is a nice place to stop by and have a good drink. When it comes to eating, I think the tip is to share a mezze selection (3, 5 or seven plates). It feels like it ends an hour early, especially on a Saturday, and that applies to both the length of stay and the cuisine. But if you're prepared for it, it's possible. Basically a nice location to come back to again and again.

Very pleasant atmosphere, despite the large number of guests, it always remained relaxed. I was recommended a piece of cake and it was a delicious piece! The staff is attentive. So: gladly again.

Good menu selections, friendly staff, breakfast was good

A great restaurant/café. We have been here several times. The falafel plate is incredibly delicious and is beautifully presented with hummus, baba ghanoush and red coleslaw in three bowls. The entrecôte and the homemade tahini ice cream with caramelized nuts are also highly recommended. The service is very friendly and attentive, in a cozy, upscale atmosphere. Be sure to reserve, space is limited.

Immer wieder schön. Gute Lage und guter Cappuccino. An Essen habe ich schon beides erlebt, manches Mal sehr lecker, manches Mal ein bisschen fad. Aber: das Leben ist ja auch nicht immer gleich.

Das Essen war sehr lecker. Die Qualität des Essen war erstklassig und wirklich lecker. Service war zuvorkommend und sympathisch.

Das Ambiente ist schon ziemlich gehoben, finde ich zumindest. Sehr gemütlich hier. Der Service ist gut und leider sehr viel zu tun. So braucht man ein bisschen Geduld, bis man sich ein weiteres Getränk bestellen kann. Dieses Restaurant ist hier bekannt für seine besonderen Speisen, die nicht alltäglich sind. Es schmeckt gut das Pilzrisotto!

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und die Einrichtung is stylisch und gemütlich. Der Ingwer-Kurkuma-Tee war frisch zubereitet und auch das Brunch mit Avocado und frischem Brot war köstlich

Ukrainisches Gericht gegessen, absolut lecker, Erfunden in Cerson, das war ja Mischung aus Polen, Ukrainern, Deutschen, Russen und Juden siehe Sacher Masoch, der die Zeit beschreibt.

Wir haben im Café Leonar gefrühstückt und es war wirklich sehr, sehr lecker. Der Service war äußerst freundlich und schnell. Hierher werden wir auf jeden Fall zurückkommen, wenn wir mal wieder in Hamburg sind.

Preis - Leistung stimmt nicht ganz aber für einen Kaffee ist es okay

Lieblingscafe. Eines mit einer richtigen Kaffeehaus Atmosphäre. Duft nach Kuchen, aktuelle Zeitungen. Nette Bedienung.

Wir mögen das Café Leonar - nette Atmosphäre, freundliche Bedienung, Tageszeitungen. Aber: das Essen 4- Shakshuka zu stark gewürzt und angebrannt, der Frenchtoast schmeckt nach nichts, und auch zusammen mit dem Klecks Quark (oder Joghurt) mit viel zu wässrigem Obstkompott (völlig ungewürzt) wird es nicht besser. Also vom Essen wird hier abgeraten . Getränke okey.

Gehe dort immer gerne zum Frühstück hin. Es gibt ein reichhaltiges Frühstück unter anderem mit Bio Eiern und frisch gepresstem Orangensaft. Alles ist super lecker, jedoch waren beim Obstsalat einige Früchte nicht mehr so gut, sodass wir diese aussortieren mussten, dies ist immer öfter passiert, auch anderen Zutaten haben manchmal gefehlt, daher sind wir nicht mehr so oft dort hin. Das Café ist anscheinend nicht Kritikfähig… sogar mit 3 Sterne Bewertung? Nach drei Jahren meine Bewertung melden, wegen welchem Verstoß?

Ein wunderschönes Cafe, man kann gut draußen und drinnen sitzen. Die zeitlose stilsichere schlichte Einrichtung lässt einen gerne dort verweilen. Die Kuchen und Torten sind sehr lecker - ebenso das abwechslungsreiche Essen. Der Service ist aufmerksam und freundlich.

Schickes Restaurant, der French Toast war ganz anders als ich ihn kenne (leider nicht im Positiven) und das Personal war nicht sehr aufmerksam. Trotzdem ein Besuch wert.

Amazing bagels; shakshoka was good as well; not as tomato heavy as other places, but well balanced. I wish the bread were served on the side, rather than on the edge of the shakshouka pan- nice presentation, but makes the bread roll a bit soggy on the bottom. Fantastic ginger lemonade, solid coffee. A great place to slow down and enjoy. Great service, very pleasant atmosphere.

Ein tolles Café. Es hebt sich sehr von der Masse der Cafés am Grindel ab. Das Essen ist kreativ und jenseits vom langweiligen Standard, den alle haben. Die Falafel: EIN TRAUM! 5* Deluxe!
