Madame Mei in Frankfurt am Main

The food was ok, but the waiter's attitude was terrible. He kept talking back to the customer, and in the end, when I didn't give a tip, the waiter asked for it directly, and then he turned his face away.

Here you can get good Asian dishes that are well prepared and easy to digest. Is recommended, for my friends it was also good and tasteful.

The three of us spontaneously ate here in the restaurant yesterday and were unfortunately very disappointed. What bothered us the most were the completely exorbitant prices. Almost all of the main courses cost at least over 20€, my duck even cost over 30€ and with all the main courses you even have to order rice for 3€ in order to be served a complete dish! “Homemade” lime lemonade (made up of 2/3 ice cubes) is also priced at over €9. If the quality is good, I'm happy to pay more, but the food was on the same level or worse than other Chinese restaurants where you get the same thing for half the money. Furthermore, the service was very hectic and did little to create a cozy atmosphere. Conclusion: It is better to spend your culinary evening at the many other good Chinese restaurants in Frankfurt. Madame Mei, NEVER AGAIN!

After we were seated, the service staff suddenly lost all interest in us. And this is how it continued after we were rediscovered and were able to order: The starters, various delicious dim sums, were at the table much too quickly for the fact that they were advertised as being freshly prepared. This also applied to the two main courses. The person cooking had guessed that we were craving oily shrimp, greasy fried noodles and completely over-salted sesame chicken. Expensive, bad food in a cramped and noisy atmosphere. I don't have to repeat it.

In our eyes it was perfect! So good that we went back on the second day! Our dog was also very welcome!!! 👍

We made a reservation in advance, we came as a group, after the meal, i made the payment, gave them a fair tip. After i made the payment, the lady immediately came and kicked us out, while we were still enjoying our beer. We were there for barely 1.5 hours. She was rude, definitely a disappointment!

Attention, rice is charged an additional €3 for the menu and we recommend checking the bill (the menu was double). Prices are very high in themselves! The tip is automatically charged at 10%.

Update from January 31, 2025: We ate again at Madame Mei's today. The restaurant was very full and we still managed to get a nice seat at 9:30 p.m. The service and the food were again excellent: we had a selection of dim sum, a very good cucumber salad, water spinach (absolute recommendation) and the duck Canton style with bone (definitely take it with bone - the skin is crispier and the meat is juicier, either difficult to eat). We had a great evening. There will definitely be a third visit. ———————————— The two of us came here without a reservation. We were greeted very friendly and given a nice place. The restaurant is very stylishly furnished and you immediately feel at home - and you don't sit too close to other guests, which further increases the coziness. We ate dim sum twice as a starter and duck and water spinach as the main course. Everything tasted excellent. Very authentically Chinese (as far as I can tell). I'm definitely looking forward to our next visit.

I've been going to Madame Mei regularly for a long time - both for lunch and dinner - and can absolutely recommend it! Here are my reasons and a few tips for your visit: 🥟 Attention dim sum lovers! I love dim sum and all the different delicacies that are available here. If you enjoy trying different dumplings together, Madame Mei is the right place for you. The selection is huge - whether with fish, meat or vegetarian - and the variety of flavors amazes me every time! 🍽 Main dishes for every taste The main courses are also consistently delicious. Duck fans in particular will get their money's worth here, but there are also great dishes with chicken, shrimp or purely vegetarian options. 💡 My tip: Try the Buddhist fasting dish (M4) with crispy chicken as a topping at lunchtime – a really great combination! 🍡 Sweet ending The sweet dumplings as a dessert are highly recommended. 🍵 Enjoy tea & a cozy atmosphere The restaurant is very comfortably furnished. As a drink, I can highly recommend green tea, which is served in a classic tea service - and if you want, you can add hot water. 📍 Seating tips & reservation I recommend that you make a reservation in advance, whether for lunch or dinner. 🔹 Best seating area: The back area inside is pleasantly quiet and cozy. 🔹 The upper floor is also a nice option. 🔹 There is a covered and heated terrace outside, but it can get uncomfortable there when the temperatures are cool. ✨ My conclusion: For me, Madame Mei is a real highlight when it comes to dim sum! Unfortunately the food wasn't authentic at all. Not recommended!!!

Früher konnte man hier erstklassig Essen, zwar etwas teuer, aber von guter Qualität und Geschmack. Davon ist leider rein gar nichts übrig geblieben. Wir hatten Gerüchte mit Hähnchen und Rindfleisch, alle nach Sichuan Art. Als Vorspeise gab es Dim Sum. Die Teigtaschen sind bestenfalls aus der Kühltruhe vom Asiamarket. Hier erwartet man mehr. Da könnte der Hauptgang ja nur besser werden, dachten wir jedenfalls. Leider wurden wir eines Besseren lehrt. Bekommen haben wir etwas mit undefinierbarer Sosse, völlig überzuckert, gänzlich ohne die typischen Aromen der Sichuan Küche. Einfach enttäuschend. Aber immerhin war die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Alles in allem eine Erfahrung die niemand braucht und die wir hier auch mit Sicherheit nicht mehr machen werden.

We spontaneously ate here on a Friday evening because it was recommended to us. Super nice welcome with a huge smile, large portions (which was accompanied by a really sweet comment that you would like to see your guests full) and delicious, authentic food. Taste wise a 10/10. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My questions about the starters were answered very kindly and the waiter gave us honest advice. We felt completely comfortable. Happy to come back <3

Very good, warm service, delicious food

The food was pretty good, but unfortunately the attitude of the Asian waitress in the store was really bad (I guess she is Asian because she doesn't seem to speak Chinese, and her German isn't very good either). At first, after I finished eating, I asked someone to refill the water, but he didn't. I went to the boss at the counter. The boss was very enthusiastic and quickly helped me refill the water. As soon as the water glass was filled with water, the waitress came to chase me away. The reason was that there were other people in the store. Guests are waiting. This situation is understandable, and I am usually willing to cooperate, but I don't dare to compliment him when he looks like he is driving away customers. His attitude is really bad. In the end, I got angry and left without leaving a tip. I really couldn't find any reason to leave a tip. Such a bad waiter was already off-putting. (ps: The attitude of the Cantonese-speaking boss and landlady in the store is still very good. I'm sorry but you really need to improve the service level, especially in the area near the door.)

The dim sum I ate here was really fresh and delicious. The wonton soup was also very filling and had a great taste. the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was served quickly and the presentation was very stylish. Many thanks to the entire team.

Terrific delicious. Lots of choice, great service. Vegetarian options also available. Higher price you have to pay but the quality of the food was absolutely worth it.

A really really good Chinese restaurant in the middle of Frankfurt City!

Delicious and authentic Shanghai dishes. I‘ve already been twice in the last few months and I will definitely go again. It is pricey but well worth it.

Unfortunately, the service and meal planning has declined significantly: my food arrived long before my partner's and was told "we'll serve it beforehand". As usual, this was neither asked when ordering nor did it make sense because it was a main course. Vegetables also came later, being declared as a side dish when ordering my meal. Food was good, sitting upstairs is now more like a dining room and excuses are not appropriate given the high price for an Asian. We were here often… what a shame

We had an outstanding experience with friends at the restaurant. We tried four diverse main dishes and two appetizers. The food was remarkable. It was well-cooked and well-seasoned with plentiful portions. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They made us feel at home. We will certainly go back the next time we want Chinese food.

Ate dim sum on a recommendation. Was great. The fact that we were sitting in a covered courtyard was unexpected. Lots of Asian crowd, most of them didn't finish their menu - we were one of the few who left the restaurant without a doggy bag. Follow the lead of the trained service.

Zum sonntäglichen Mittagessen mal was anderes. Die Bedienung ist aufgesetzt höflich, ein wenig vordernd und mit dem Trinkgeld nicht zufrieden was sie sehr direkt zeigt. (Obwohl sie die Suppe vergessen hatte) Die Getränke sind gehoben im Preis 9€ ein Glas Weisburgunder oder Riesling 5€ für 0,33 Bier. Da geht 9€ für Eistee oder Limettendrink (0,5l) direkt noch. Das ist aber auch Alles was es zu bemängeln gibt. Wir sassen nah der Tür da zieht es halt mal kurz ansonsten schön eingerichtetes Restaurant. Die Dimsums sind in großer Zahl angeboten unnnd nicht von der Stange. Echt zu empfehlen. Die Portionen sind angemessem bis groß (Reisgerichte). Auch hier extravagante Würzung und Zubereitung. Die Ente ist auf den Punkt gebraten rosa. So was bekommt man selten.

Incredibly delicious!! 😍 When we want to treat ourselves to absolutely amazing Chinese food, we always go to Madame Mei! I can highly recommend the cucumber salad as a starter, the dressing is perfectly seasoned and has a hint of spiciness. Then of course dim sum: I like the BBQ pork buns (photo) and the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) best. For the main course yesterday I had duck in sweet and sour plum sauce - the duck was perfectly cooked, super tasty and tender. As a dessert I can recommend the mango cream with tapioca pearls. Sooooooo delicious and a perfect ending!

Atmosphere and service seems okay. We tried Chow Mein with beef and Shrimp Fried rice. Both were too oily for us. We couldn’t finish the meals. We will not prefer this restaurant again.

After a week of no Asian food we decided we needed some good Chinese food. Somehow we were able to walk in and snag a table- but I guess reservations are recommended for most (tasty/good) restaurants in Frankfurt. Stumbled into this spot when we saw the dimsum sign- surprisingly good for European Chinese food. We only ordered two dimsum dishes but hey if you’re Asian and like your steamed fish- they do it well- not overcooked at all. A cute German old couple didn’t even know it was on the menu- they’re regulars too. Dimsum is good. The salted egg yolk steamed bun was very authentic! Saw a lot of non Asians ordering Dimsum and the sweet and sour pork? It was literally on every table! Price wasn’t bad. And tasted much better than schnitzel!

The food was bombastically good! Authentic, delicious - simply outstanding! Fine Chinese cuisine. The half ducks are so delicious! The service was friendly. Now comes the BUT... After 1.5 hours we had just finished the main course and we were kindly informed that the next ones were already here and that we should please pay promptly. They apologized and we received a small dessert to share for free. When I asked, it was confirmed that they usually only schedule 1.5 hour slots on weekends. We found that very, very sad! We would each have liked to order a dessert and a drink.

We ate in the restaurant and were impressed by the quality of the Soeisen. The appetizers (soups and dim sum) are particularly excellent. We're definitely not here for the last time!

A gorgeous restaurant where you can eat Chinese food. Love there noodles with shrimp and dim sum. Nice service filling up the tea water. But sometimes it takes too long foods to be served.

Omg - the quality food went down - I can’t believe the food taste lacked the authenticity and quality of meat and vegetables were subpar and questionable.. I’m so disappointed upon my genuine concern brought to one of staff about the questionable food - the staff was dismissive and has audacity to ask for tips… I’m concerned whether ingredients were kept in safe temperatures etc and there are frequent checks on the expiry date of food item - cause I’m really sure some of my dishes were off by lots..😩

Soy sauce bottle had flies in it! Food was good. Service was rude. After we didn’t give them tip for the flies in the soy sauce, she made an annoyed face which is not justified.

La señora que cobra los pagos le recuerda que la propina no está incluida en la factura, y al parecer, parece tener un monto mínimo en mente por debajo del cual la propina no debe caer. Cometí el error de dejar una propina que estaba por debajo de sus expectativas, lo que la llevó a rechazar la propina y reaccionar con grosería e irritación. Es como si ella creyera que la propina se le debe a ella, y en la cantidad que ya ha considerado apropiada. No puedo creer que esta mujer piense que puede ser tan grosera con los clientes. Por lo que leí en otras críticas, los buenos modales no son comunes en este lugar. Nunca más.

As always, great and familiar:) the dumplings are my alternative to Singapore and the atmosphere is like coming home to friends and at the same time in a very celebratory atmosphere:) as always, happy again:)

The lady who collects the payments reminds you that the tip is not included in the bill, and apparently, she seems to have a minimum amount in mind below which the tip should not fall. I made the mistake of leaving a tip that was below her expectations, which led to her refusing the tip and reacting with rudeness and irritation. It’s as if she believes the tip is owed to her, and in the amount she has already deemed appropriate. I can’t believe this woman thinks she can be so rude to customers. From what I read in other reviews, good manners are not common in this place. Never again.

Food and atmosphere is really good .. But Service is very unfriendly expecially for small group of people. Always in hurry and push customers to take out plates. No greetings or No thank you for tip provided. Also while giving the bill she stressed that no tip included in the bill. I never had such experience in other chinese restaurant in frankfurt.

The Dim Sum lunch selection is very broad and the quality is very high by Chinese standards. The restaurant is extremely popular, being at the centre of Frankfurt with all those business people nearby, so reserve yourself a table. Because it is so popular, the restaurant is also very crowded and the spaces are small. It is probably a little more relaxed in the evenings, when the small spaces become a lot more cosy.

There is a slight difference in taste every time you go. Still, it's averagely delicious. The biggest problem with this restaurant is the one middle-aged Chinese female server. This female server reduces the satisfaction of having a delicious meal. There is no consideration for customers at all when cleaning up all meals. He threw the dishes away and tried to put away the glasses that were more than half full of beer without asking. When I asked him not to clean them up, he said in an unpleasant tone, "Why? Do you want to drink them?"

A bit of a drive to come here and prices on somewhat expensive side but totally worth it. Friendly staff, and efficient service, dim sum freshly made and delicious, duck was not crispy as described but soft meat and good. Went on a week day for dinner , they were busy, could imagine they're busier on weekends, reservation recommended, my email reservation request not answered, so had to call.

All dishes were rather salty, the duck tasted precooked and reheated. The service was mediocre. Before we finalised the order I asked the waitress three times if we ordered too much and she said it should be fine. We ended up taking home 30% of the food. When she brought the bill, she stressed that tip is not included. Used to be much better! Very pricey, one small soup for 8€ is a lot. I will not visit again

We were a bit disappointed with the waitress' advice. She just wanted the guests to order a lot, even more than necessary. When we expressed our desire for a supper, she immediately recommended 6 “small” vegetable bowls, which were not even on the menu. In the end the bill comes to 8 euros for the little soup. In addition, the Canton duck and beef stew are not fresh.

It was all good, from the prompt service to the delicious food. The wait staff are incredible there.

This restaurant is a bit pricey, but the taste is good. However, it may vary from day to day, but on the day I visited, the mapo tofu had a slightly stale smell. The best food I ordered that day was the vermicelli in the picture, but I can't remember the name of the food I ordered. It's good on its own, but it's really delicious when you add the spicy sauce that's on the table. The cucumber soup was also the best I've had recently. It seemed like they were sharing a terrace seat with Sakura next door, and the bathroom was near the stairs leading to the second floor. Please note this if you have difficulty using stairs. It came to over 30 euros per person including drinks. I overate.

Waitress was really impolite. I wanted a different table as it was hot outside. And she gave us a face and was mumbling in our face. That she was not happy with my request. Than the meat dish had not much meat in there. Really overrated food. The rice is broken rice which is not good. Way overpiced for small simple dishes. Read the rest of the reviews. Waitress asking for tips? We had the same meat dish as in this picture. Our dish had more sauce than eat in it. What a cheaters they are. Below is my girlfriends review of this place. I have been coming to this place for few years now and every time the food is top quality, but the problem is the waiters.. they are really really rude! Some of the incidents that happened so far: - a friend of mine ordered two dumplings and one main dish and as she couldn’t finish it all, she wanted to pack them. We were paying separately and one the waitresses was calculating the cost per person. She looked at our friend and said “waoww.. you have eaten a lot” like why do you care if we have eaten that much? It’s good for the business - we were there last weekend with some friends and she was paying for the tab. The same above rude waitress told her that “tip is not included in the price”. In Germany you don’t have to tip, it’s not like in US and saying this bluntly was just rude! In both occasions it was the same waitress! Such a great establishment and food experience getting ruined by the rudeness of the service!!

We came for the dim sum and were very disappointed. Besides being colourful and looking good for instagram pictures, the taste and quality was not at par with other cheaper dim sum venues. The service was fine at the beginning. We did not like the attitude of our head waitress because she was trying to charge extra for any request we made. For example, asking €3 for a cup of hot water so my mom can take her medication. At the end, she even dare asking for tips because this is the rule in Germany. I’ve been visiting Germany for 8 years now and this is the first time I ever hear the comment that tip is mandatory in this country. Come on, don’t take us for fools.

Food is really good but the service really needs to improve.I was asked to go earlier than one hour while I was making the reservation over the phone,then we had to wait half an hour to order the dessert and although I was speaking German and English with the waitress I was ignored. While I added a tip ,the waitress would not thank me but looked disappointed and got frustrated as my friend was looking for his card to pay initially.It is a shame not put the attention on the customer as food is not the reason to excuse the rest.I would not come back .

Was here for lunch with customers. The restaurant itself looks clean and elegant. The food was mediocre to good. I would actually have given more stars if the waitress (an older Chinese woman) hadn't been so rude to me when I was cashing out. At first she gave me a normal receipt. But since I needed a receipt for entertainment, I politely asked her for one. But then she got really angry at me and asked me why I hadn't said that beforehand and that she had to go to the checkout again and print out the receipt! The whole thing took less than 2 minutes, so I didn't understand her overreaction. It was absolutely unnecessary and a no-go for customers. I didn't want to stoop to her level and didn't say anything else, but it was very annoying. Went in in a good mood and came out in a bad mood.

One of the worst experiences of our lives. Asked for a table, ignored us at first, even laughed when looking at us, and then (when we approached them again and insisted) reluctantly gave us a table. Thought that was because it was full, but no, there were many empty tables that remained empty while we were there. To make it worse, food was really below average and absurdly expensive.

Great place for authentic Chinese food and or dim sum. The waitresses are great and attentive. Must try are crispy bbq pork bun, steamed shrimp dumplings, xiao long bao, pan fried radish cake and sweet and sour pork and the mango pudding with tapioca as dessert.

The service was so poor. They kept us waiting while we waited at the entrance, eventually we had to go up and ask ourselves. They gave us weird looks as if we were making an outlandish request. Terrible service, mediocre food, wouldn't go back
