Macondo in Berlin

We went this afternoon. We tried the Colombian empanadas; shredded meat, chicken and potato with hogao. The dough for the empanadas was delicious and the pico de gallo that accompanied them was also very good, barely spicy. A delight!! The place was full, in fact we saw that several people wanted to enter but since there were no tables available they left 🥴 the restaurant is not very big but it is worth waiting a while for a table. I would come back :)

The food is always incredible with an atmosphere that invites you to relax and enjoy the music on a comfortable sofa. Perfect to meet with friends or as a couple. Dedicated and very pet friendly staff! :) I always come back! It is a gem of Berlin.

Macondo in Berlin-Friedrichshain is a hidden gem for Colombian cuisine! Their arepas are absolutely delicious, and the cocktails are impressively strong. The vibrant and stylish interior adds to the perfect atmosphere for a night out. Highly recommended!

very nice, pleasant and accidentally found place to stay longer, eat, drink and let yourself work. very friendly and competent service. Food tasted very good. We are already looking forward to the next meal. Recommendation

I've been going to Macondo for almost 14 years. Firstly, I find it very cozy and familiar - I feel like I'm at home. The Macondo has gone through different phases, but has always developed positively. I can really recommend it: everything from the drinks to the food is prepared with passion. Anyone who says otherwise unfortunately doesn't really know the people who work there and put their heart and soul into it. There’s also live music with piano – that’s absolutely amazing!

It used to be my favorite bar in Berlin. Food and cocktails are very nice. The service has gotten sadly reaaally bad the last two years. Quiet unfriendly and sloppy. Last time I sat there with my friends for half an hour and we were just ignored by the waiter, so we Left. I guess they can afford losing clients. What a shame!

A must have at Boxi! The family atmosphere is magical. We feel so well looked after here and the old upholstered furniture is incredibly comfortable to sit on. This makes it easy to forget the time. Anyone who appreciates the special Colombian influence will love the drinks and the atmosphere here. The drinks are special and therefore take time. You have to accept a bit of a wait here, but it's worth it.

The food was delicious 😋 the breakfast of arepa with eggs pericos and the chocolate was very good! The only thing I would recommend is that upon arrival clients receive them with a warm greeting :)

Cozy place, nice Latin music, our hot chocolate and the nachos were really good and the waiter who works there is an absolute gem! Super friendly and welcoming! We came after the kitchen had closed on a Saturday night and he still managed to make us nachos! Really appreciated!! Totally recommended this place!! 😊

The best Latin food in Berlin. It took me a while to find it, the information of its existence came to me late. I am Venezuelan in Berlin and I am a food lover from my continent. This place is THE BEST. The tasting tray is one of my passions now. I am Addicted. 100 points!

Right next to Boxi Platz, great place to chill and have a drink. We had brunch on the weekend here, the chilaquiles with chicken was amazing. I had some issues with the first plate, they fixed it right away and prepared a new plate with extra chicken for me.

The Colombian owner was super disrespectful. He insulted us by shouting even though we just wanted to have something in his restaurant.

On a hot summer evening, we made a reservation for 5 at Macondo. It was around 8pm when we arrived and the barmaid showed us our table in a very friendly manner. To our surprise it wasn’t a regular table, but 3 sofa’s with a large coffee table in between, super cosy! We started with some cocktails, which were all skilfully made and tasted great. Following up we ordered nachos’s and a large fingerfood plate containing empanada’s, some sort of fries, fried banana and a whole lot more. A lot of it was fried and a bit greasy but it all tasted great. I especially liked the empanada with meat. We ended the night with some arepas, which are like Mexican pitas. There was a lot of choice in toppings, so we took a few different ones. The ones with meat were all stacked, definitely great for its price. The beef one tasted the best, followed by the chicken (most refreshing one after a warm day) and the one with pork (very nice sweet potato filling, would work great in winter). We had a great time at Macondo and will definitely be back for cocktails & fingerfood!

Unusual and quite cozy bar, with some good and bad sides. I liked the interior, but a lot of people smoke by the "outside" tables which are really not separated from the "inside" at all if the weather is warm and windows are open, so the place may stink, and it seems normal there just as everywhere in Berlin. Food selection is very basic and brunches are only till 3 p.m. (not sure if there's any food later) It's quite expensive but nothing exceptional for a "hip and touristy" area like that. The taste was alright. Also you might be unsure what to expect if you're a European who isn't familiar with South American food, so for me it was pretty much a random choice. The woman at the bar was really nice and sweet.

Delicious food and delicious drinks. Unfortunately very bad service. The waiter (German) spoke to us in German, but as soon as he was spoken to in fluent German (!) by the only person at the table who looked rather non-German, he answered her in English. What's that supposed to mean? Our food and drink were also forgotten several times and had to be ordered several times, which made the waiting times incredibly long. In the end drinks were charged several times and we were not believed that we had less than what was charged. After the third discussion, the staff acknowledged and apologized.

Unfortunately service was subpar. We had to order our food 3 times because it was forgotten twice by the same waitress. In total we had to wait over an hour in a half-full shop. Same with the drinks. Every drink except the first had to be ordered twice. It's a shame, because the drinks and food were really great. Maybe just a bad service day. It was the first time that we didn't want to leave a tip. I still give it 2 stars because the bartender was nice and had a hard time replacing the waitress in the end.

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is very pleasant but the service is average, if the consumer does not like something, it is better to pay and not say anything so that they do not get upset.

Food was super nice. We ordered a ‘picada’ mix to share, only thing is that you can not choose the type of empanadas that comes with it, and I wasn’t fan of the ones that I’ve got (cheese and spinach). But the rest was amazing, delicious. Service can definitely be improved, waitresses was kind of rude.

Pretty thitty almoast everything but!!! a secret that hardly anyone knows about the bar is: if you ask the long-haired bartender for a „Mexicaner“ shot, you get a special drink for free. Take this one on me 🙌

Great place. Feels like being in a bar in Colombia and not like a Colombian restaurant abroad which are always just for eating and leaving. This was nice for a change. Great staff, picada and finger food plus very well prepared cocktails.

Had a great time here hanging out for dinner and a drink. We sat inside near the terrace with open window doors. Inside there’s a really nice vintage set up of old cozy chairs and tables. Service was very friendly and quick. Lots of gluten free Latin American options which were awesome and tasted great. Had the nachos, yucca fritta and empanadas. Great value for money. The area around the restaurant is also very nice to explore. Mezcal mule cocktail was interesting but there was too much sweet syrup in it.

4.40 for beef empanada (insane. Scam) 20 minutes waiting for coffee when the place is not even full. We decided to leave. If you want Colombian food go to Mecato instead. I don’t recommend Macondo at all.

When I arrived I saw that it says Cash only, I wanted to ask if that was because there was a minimum payment to be able to pay with a card as happens in many places, I don't finish making the sentence to which the boy responds "if it says cash only it's because It's cash only, apparently you don't know what it means in English. First of all - the service staff was great, nice, friendly and tried hard. It definitely deserves 5 stars. Thanks for the great service! In my opinion, the (new) owner/boss of the shop didn't work at all. I had reserved a table for two people, when I got there there were a few other (in my opinion nicer) tables available and I asked if I could sit somewhere else - no. When I asked, puzzled, why not, there was only one "where is the problem?" - and yes, I actually didn't understand that either. He also said that theoretically there could be more people sitting at the other tables - which I understand, of course: But: there were other people who came after me, sometimes only two, who of course also sat down at larger tables because they didn't have reservations were. Ah yes... The food - we had the large platter - is quite good, as are the drinks - everything is reasonably priced - but I won't be seen there again because of the "nice welcome". It's a shame because I liked the atmosphere there, but times change.

The ambience is great. Super cozy. The food delicious. The service has improved significantly over the last year. Therefore a star for that. The Aperol Sour is fantastic.

We tried the Grande Picada and it was delicious it's a great way to try all the dishes on the menu. It was very filling for the two of us. It can be shared by 2 or 3 people. Would definitely recommend this platter if you are here to try different Latin American food. The Irish coffee wasn't so good but the hot chocolate with Bailey's was amazing.

Macondo! Lovely place with a cozy vibe, really friendly staff (thanks Trini), tasty snacks, good music and yummi drinks (try the espresso martini!). We go here everytime we are in Berlin, it is the perfect hangout spot both summer and winter, and right next to Boxhagener Platz. See you next time!

Food very good, the caipirinha is said to be worth €9.20, you get a mini glass, three quarters full, with a homophatic number of limes, see photo. Apparently this is also common in Colombia and the boss would have specified it that way. I therefore considered the €9.20 for a €65 bill as a tip.

The place is very cool, with a Colombian touch (the name and the very friendly owner, the typical foods, adding sauce), but also very Berlin. Good picadita, good pisco sour. The Argentine waiter was super friendly, very good service. Thank you TOTALS! ^^
