Maaji in Freiburg im Breisgau

Yesterday I googled an Indian restaurant in Freiburg and spontaneously drove here. From the outside it looks rather inconspicuous, almost like a snack bar - but the first impression is deceptive! We went in and were more than pleasantly surprised. A small but beautiful restaurant. 🍛 The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned and filling. The service was very friendly and attentive. We were also really happy about the surprise dessert. 🥰 We'll definitely be back!

We came to the restaurant unknowingly during our lunch break, but were greeted in a very friendly manner and were still offered that you would be happy to serve us. We had a super delicious lunch and the staff was really friendly! We can really recommend it :)

For a garden party in September we ordered dinner for 40 people from Maa Ji (after a previous very convincing "test meal" in the restaurant). The exchange with the boss and the team was very friendly, the delivery was on time, the service was perfect - and the food was fantastic! Highly recommended and gladly again! D. I recently visited an Indian restaurant and tried their veg thali, 🍛 and it exceeded my expectations! The flavors were authentic, delicious, and the portions generous, offering great value for 💶. I also loved the rose lassi 🍹 — refreshing and well-balanced. The ambiance was spotless, with Bollywood music 🎶 creating a lively atmosphere. The service was exceptional, with staff frequently checking in if we needed extra pickle or chutney. ➕ the location is perfect, just a minute’s walk from the tram station. ❗️Highly recommended for its food, service, and affordability.

If you are ever in Freiburg, this is the place to eat!

We are from France, the waiter was very helpful and very nice. He gave us a menu in English because we don't understand German. Very good food, we wanted a cheese nan, it was not on the menu but they still offered it to us at our request, I recommend the butter chicken with herbs.

What an amazing restaurant! The service is very nice and warm with some very appreciated advices. And the food is delicious, I recommend the plate n.62 Chicken fried with herbs and sauce...yummy. A very nice evening indeed! And all the meet is Halal!

Excellent restaurant, nice room and welcoming and kind staff, available to accommodate our requests regarding the degree of spiciness of the dishes. The chicken vindaloo is recommended, truly excellent and great for spicy lovers! The house iced tea is also recommended to accompany dinner. We will definitely be back!

Great food and atmosphere. The food is very authentic and love the service. They asked us multiple times if we need something extra or not. It was lovely visiting Freiburg and eating there. Completely recommend the restaurant.

The food itself wasn't bad, but unfortunately the portions are very, very small, even for me as a thin woman. My girls and I didn't all have the cheapest main courses in terms of price. There is also a large selection for vegetarians. Luckily the food was cold, so my stomach tightened a bit. This means that the price is definitely not appropriate. Actually, it's a shame.

Decent food for Freiburg Indian food. The service was amazing though, everyone was so nice and gave us complimentary deserts and were so sweet. It was also so nice to sit outside and their mango lassi was so big and yummy!

Das Essen hat nichts mit indischer Küche zu tun. Geschmacklich war es statt Butter chicken eher Reis, chicken und Tomatensoße. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Extremely friendly hosts, very well seasoned and varied selection (Maaji 2 with meat), delicious, inexpensive and plentiful. We sat at a table for two and friends came unexpectedly, another table was delivered faster than I could see. Very attentive. We'll be back!

we ordered mango sabzy and the chicken vindaloo, it was delicious, they bring a homemade green chilli chutney for extra hot and is out of the charts how good it was. Super kind waiters as well

Inconspicuous restaurant from the outside but an absolute stroke of luck when we went there spontaneously. The food was very tasty and the homemade lemonade was also refreshing and delicious. Great Indian restaurant with authentic food. You can sit very comfortably inside and outside. The friendly service is particularly noteworthy. Conclusion: Especially if you would like to try several different dishes, there are fantastic plates with three different curries (meat or veggie), rice, salad, naan, and dessert on top. We recommend.

A great authentic restaurant! The food tasted very tasty. We had a meat thali and a mix samosa pakora aloo tikka. At the end there was a delicious chai. The staff was very friendly. We'd love to come back.

Food is appetizing and one should the Tea after the food, also the Mango lassi is mouthwatering. Best place to try Indian cuisine.

Vegetable Bowl not worth it. Apparently with 5 different dishes but they all tasted the same. It came with only one piece of cauliflower, a dozen chickpeas, and just one cube of paneer. The one only green pea that I received, rolled to the floor. Basically, just a bunch of rice. No flavor.

Place is okay but in terms of service just say so-so and have to wait pretty long. Food quality is very much adjusted to German cuisine which is their main customers, so acceptable. Wow beautifully written that we ordered take out wow nice joke. Simply we were sitting in the restaurant and told them we are dine so how come the question will popes up that we want to take away? And you first had finished customers and I had to called you for my food; nice explanation. Always refrain from your words what you are saying and what you are responding afterwards. Best Indian restaurant in Freiburg

Indian-Pakistani cuisine. Absolutely pleasant, reserved service. Great variety of dishes. My favorite drink: homemade mango lassi, super tasty. Maaji will already be my next regular restaurant in Freiburg-Betzenhausen. By the way, it's located right next to an S-Bahn station.

Clean, visually beautifully designed, very, very nice staff and above all the food is of great quality, very good spices (ground and created ourselves), meat of great quality, rice as well, the bottom line is that I am very critical when it comes to eating outside, but I can here you just can't say anything bad. Now let's come back to the boss to round things off. I would say this mentality of running a restaurant the way he does it hardly exists anymore today. Wow was really surprised. Very attentive staff, very tasty food and all in all a good experience. When you enter it gives the impression of a quick restersunt, the map is complicated and the air is very heavy. However, the gentleman came directly to our place, took the drinks, gave advice and explained things and did it very well. We decided on 2 butter chicken. As a thank you, we gave us a sweet dish with mango, which was very, very tasty. I can recommend this shop and will definitely come back.

We ate at Maaji with 6 people on March 23rd, 2024. We were welcomed very friendly. What we really liked were the homemade drinks and the menus, which were prepared with a lot of love. The food is highly recommended and tastes very good. It was served on colorful plates, very traditional to the homeland. The decor was stylish and tasteful. All in all a successful and tasteful evening. We will recommend you 😊🙏👍

Delicious and authentic food, incredibly great service! A really nice experience.

We were there to break our fast and had to wait another 2 minutes, after which we were immediately asked if there was something wrong with the food. But we just waited. Very friendly. Everything was to our satisfaction. They brought us dates and a dessert for free. We were also told that we can have as much rice as we want and that next time we should say that we are fasting as they usually bring fruit plates to people who are fasting. Food was great but I would always go for the service alone. Food came really quickly too! Everyone was super nice, THANK YOU!! 😊❤️❤️

If you are missing the chaat or want to try an essence of Indian street food, this is the only place on freiburg to provide that experience through Samosa bowl: a fusion of western salat and Indian street food. The taste is simply awesome. Although I would say the samosa size and crunchiness is smaller in comparison to the last year, but there is still no match. I would say go to this place for the speciality bowls. All of them are super nice. Update: try thr new dessert additions. The sugar level and flavor is super balanced and leaves a nice after feeling :D

A true pearl in the large restaurant jungle. Small restaurant with a very nice atmosphere; incredibly nice and warm people. And the food is a true taste experience. Here we cook with heart and love. You can taste that. I don't want to reveal much more. Go there yourself and let yourself be surprised. It is worth it! I was there for the first time today and I can say with certainty that it won't be the last time. 🥰💚
