One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve experienced in Germany!

Today I visited this restaurant and ordered tea. Everything was very pleasant. When I went to pay, I noticed that they offered a complimentary charge for cash payments under €10. That was a very kind gesture and showed great respect. All the staff were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I felt very much at home. Thank you to the whole team – God bless you. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Very polite, quick service and delicious food

We ate here yesterday. The welcome and service were very friendly and attentive, and they accommodated my special request (no cream). The food tastes great, the portions aren't huge but just right. They offer children's meals, which are simply child-friendly portions of the original dishes – we thought that was fantastic! They even gave us a small complimentary dessert. A great experience and a good tip if you want a relaxed and delicious meal. Unfortunately, they didn't accept card payments, which is a shame and would be a real improvement!

Delicious and unique Indian/Pakistani food – and I say that after living in India for many months! The samosa bowl was especially scrumptious. Perfectly spiced, a wide selection, fantastic value for money, and very friendly service. I haven't had better Indian food in Freiburg. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back!

We spontaneously decided to eat there one evening and got a table. The food service has the charm of a cafeteria; the portions of pre-prepared and warmed dishes are quite small – there's definitely room for improvement. The food isn't freshly prepared but comes "from the counter." We had the chicken tikka masala – three spoonfuls of rice, too much sauce, and five pieces of meat for €17.50. It's not exactly filling. The spiciness was more on par with European standards – Indian food definitely tastes different. Only non-alcoholic drinks are available, so be aware that the tables are relatively small – the plates are perfectly suited to them. The service was very friendly and attentive.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon when most other restaurants were closed. The food and the hospitality were amazing. The aloo parathas were so good that we are taking some home.

We've been regular customers since it opened and are always delighted by the excellent service and superb food. A real asset to the area and a culinary boon for Freiburg.

I came to this restaurant after discovering it on internet. During my stay of 7 days at Freiburg I Br, I found the restaurant excellent with superior service. The restaurant has been able to justify the very concept of Maaji i.e. food of a mother’s hand at a home in Pakistan or India. I must mention that every food I tasted in seven days was exceptionally good and tasty, while it was possible only because of excellent atmosphere and well trained staff who can achieve what any customer can desire in a food and its quality. Lastly, full marks for the owner himself, who is making all this possible due to his extreme hardworking and valour.

Absolutely fantastic! The staff were incredibly welcoming and the dishes were wonderfully complex, warming, and flavorful. It was perfect for a cold November day.

From the moment I walked in, the service was nothing short of exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the vegetarian thali, and every curry was bursting with flavor. I usually enjoy my food quite spicy, and they were more than happy to make adjustments. As someone visiting Germany, I honestly wasn’t sure I’d find a place that could match the authentic taste I’m used to, but this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. The food, the service, and the overall experience were simply outstanding. If you’re looking for authentic flavors and exceptional hospitality, this place is an absolute gem, a must-visit!

We had a truly delicious Indian meal here. There's a wide selection of vegan dishes. I opted for the combination of four different vegan dishes, including rice, bread, papadums, AND dessert, for €17.90. While the four dishes look very similar, each one is a flavor explosion in its own way. The drinks (lemonade and tea) also seemed homemade and came in generous quantities. Highly recommended—I'll be back!! :)

Wonderfully themed restaurant with food that tastes truly spectacular. The inclusion of small but powerful ingredients like raisins in the biryani elevates the food to a taste making the food worth every euro. The service is the cherry on top, wonderful owner! Greatly recommended.

We went there for evening snacks and they were totally worth it. Both mango lassi and samosa chaat is fantastic. The service and ambience is also good. I deducted one star as I also ordered food from the restaurant so msinly non-veg and that was not very authentic. It could be that veg food is better than non veg here

I loved it. I am a student on a budget , i ate a MAGNIFIC PLATE maaji 2 with meat very very fullfilling with salad and dessert for 10 euros ! 9,50 non veg option. So good. Service rapid and cery nice and kind. I will go back ❤️❤️

Highly recommend Maaji if you're looking for a curry - one of the best we've had. The menu has a vast amount of options, specifically indicating vegetarian/vegan dishes. The staff are friendly and can also speak English and offer an English menu. We had the tofu masala, aloo saag, garlic naan, and two mango juices, plus a small complimentary mango dessert each for €42. We would definitely go back again - thank you!

We discovered Pakistani cuisine and we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is soothing, the service respectful and the dishes fresh and delicious.... try the lemonade with 🍉 it's to die for, dishes based on lentils and meat, a treat... and add a hawla and guji dessert.....to finish on a sweet and balanced note.

You order naan and say no rice, but you still get rice. Taste-wise, it's the worst Indian restaurant in Freiburg. The paneer tasted a lot like Emmental cheese, and the lassi was watery. Not recommended, especially for the price. But the service is friendly.

The only negative thing about the food for me is cilantro, it's in almost all the dishes, and I can't stand it. I saw reviews about small portions, I don't know, we couldn't eat everything, we didn't even drink coffee, there was no room left...

We ordered food here via Lieferando. It was well packaged and still warm. The food was delicious, and there's a good vegan selection, which is also clearly labeled. Unfortunately, the naan was more like a chapati than a nan. The dishes marked as spicy weren't as spicy as we expected. However, it was too spicy for the average German. So, if you can eat spicy food, it's only mildly spicy, but still tasty. The delivery person was nice and suggested we order via the website next time, because Lieferando is expensive for them. But without Lieferando, we wouldn't have found them in the first place. We'll order via the website next time. We'll definitely stop by the restaurant sometime.

I had an incredible dining experience at this Indian restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality and inviting ambiance set the tone for a wonderful evening. The began ka bharta and chilly tofu was flavorful and had just the right amount of spice, and the garlic and cheese naan was soft, fresh, and addictive. This restaurant is absolutely delicious — we make a special trip every time just to eat here. The food is consistently amazing, and the owner is incredibly thoughtful. He even remembers our preferences, which makes every visit feel personal and welcoming. Highly recommended!

After an year I am visiting this place and defiantly things has changed! We ordered Samosa chat and Aloo(potato) chat, and we were served with some sort of curry based dish. I cannot comment on other food. But the bowl of food served for us is defiantly not CHAT!

Top-notch service and ambiance. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a variety of aromas. Unfortunately, the food (tikka masala, butter chicken) was a bit bland. When I go to an Indian restaurant, I want a flavor explosion. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Maybe we were just unlucky. Or maybe it's too closely aligned with German cuisine. I would have also preferred some naan as an appetizer. But they did offer a mango dessert on the house.
