L'Osteria in Lübeck

We had a cozy meal outside, just the two of us. The weather was beautiful and the view was amazing. We received very friendly and quick service. The pizzas are delicious and highly recommended. The portions were so large that we shared one. We'll be back.

I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars. I decided on 4 stars because of the friendly service and the taste of the pizza. The pizza is about 50 cm in diameter, the plate is nowhere near that. It was as if part of the pizza was left on the table. The tables were wiped after every meal 👍......with a rag in a bucket on the counter 🤔 I personally didn't like that. My pizza had very few toppings, my husband's had more toppings. It tasted quite good.

I can't understand some of the reviews (those with the sparse stars). Our visit was extremely mediocre overall. We were completely full. The table didn't wobble, and we weren't too close to other tables. The concept of La'Osteria is the same everywhere. If you come during rush hour, you might have to wait. During our visit, our staff had 10 tables inside and outside completely under control by around 12:15. My full respect and gratitude (I hope the tip was sufficient). We'd gladly go back.

Very tasty. The pizza is the size of a wagon wheel and comes with plenty of toppings. Friendly service and a great view. 5 stars, I'd happily give it.

Delicious food! Friendly and welcoming staff.

We made an online reservation, which is highly recommended, as the restaurant is very busy in the evenings. We received a friendly welcome and were seated quickly, but that was unfortunately the end of the good service. We had to wait 25 minutes to order drinks and food. The food and drinks were brought quickly, as usual, and the pizzas were huge. There was only one server upstairs, and with so many guests and so few staff, it was absolutely hectic and stressful. This spoiled the atmosphere. There was no question about whether we wanted more drinks or even an opportunity to call the waiter, as he was constantly busy. When we wanted to pay, we had to wait another 30 minutes before we could pay. All of this simply spoils the impression, and no matter how good the food is, the surroundings aren't right. L Osteria is currently advertising on social media that with the code word "Dolce Vita" you get a free soft drink with every pizza. The waiter denied this and said it was only valid until 5:00 PM... but the website does not contain this information about the time... so please either train the employees or update the website ;-)

Giant pizza, fantastic as always. My wife had pasta and was also very satisfied. The value for money is excellent. In Travemünde, you can also enjoy a lovely spot by the Trave River. The restaurant is often very busy at peak times. It's easier to get a great seat in the afternoon.

Be sure to reserve a day or two in advance to ensure a spot. The place is completely overcrowded and understaffed. Empty tables aren't cleared promptly. There's hardly any staff, which is understandable when you see how people treat each other there. However, our server was very attentive. We specifically mentioned our dog when making the reservation and ended up with a tiny table in the alleyway, right in front of a staff room. They kindly allowed us to change tables, otherwise we would have had to leave. The food was okay and came out quite quickly. Unfortunately, the pizza was just unevenly topped. Overall, unfortunately, this is the worst L'Osteria I've ever been to.

Even though it was open until midnight and the tables were only half full, we weren't allowed in until 9 p.m. because they were so busy? Never experienced anything like that before.

On a Tuesday afternoon, with the outdoor area less than half full, the waiter refused my request to sit on a bench. Apparently, the waiter would get in trouble if he seated two people at a large table. We backed out and ate somewhere else. If the waiter thinks he's more important than the customers, then I'm not going to pay for such lousy service. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

The food is good and inexpensive the service is great

We had pizza (half tuna and onions, half salami) and Gorgonzola pasta. The pizza was large, as always at L'Osteria, but what happened to the quality?? Few toppings, carelessly distributed, little cheese, dry, boring. The pasta portion was very small – unworthy of the price and the L'Osteria name! Not much Gorgonzola, a hint at best, more like pasta in cream sauce. Considerably overpriced for that! Service was inattentive and slow. Ambience: We sat "outside" on the covered terrace framed by glass walls. Great view of the Trave River! BUT: Since it's "outside," smoking is permitted! And of course, a few stubborn people took advantage of it at the next table. Folks, it's 2025!! The issue of tobacco smoke in restaurants should have been a thing of the past by now!! Are you serious? Very annoying!

Due to the slight delay of the pedestrian ferry, we contacted L'Osteria by phone from the ferry to announce our slight delay. During the phone call, we were told to come straight through and our table by the window was still available. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we went straight through as discussed on the phone and wanted to let them know we were there. What we quickly realized was a huge mistake. We were "greeted" so rudely, in an unacceptable tone, by a so-called manager (Celine?!) and were essentially thrown out of the restaurant with the words: "We're told to leave!" We tried to politely point out that we had just made a phone call due to the slight delay caused by the ferry, and an employee politely told us we could come straight through. (We did that, too.) The so-called manager ("Celine") didn't understand this and asked us to leave the restaurant to look at her reservation list/tablet. At the same time, she referred to her employee, with whom I spoke on the phone, saying that the employee didn't understand German very well and that this wasn't the case where guests should just walk through. After we explained several times that we had reserved a table for 6:30 p.m., she still didn't understand. We had to remind her a fourth time that we had a reservation confirmation. We've never encountered such an unfriendly and overwhelmed person (Manager Celine) in our lives. If someone is overwhelmed, then in my opinion, that person is the wrong person for us. These numerous discussions were played out in front of other paying guests by the manager/seat attendant. Impossible! Ultimately, a super friendly and dedicated service employee saved the evening for us. I really hope we get a response at some point.

We got a table even though it was packed, even without a reservation. The usual quality, cozy, not as big and therefore not as loud as other L'Osterias.

Large pizzas but nothing on them at high prices. You can order toppings at high prices. We waited 50 minutes for the pizza. You'd be better off going to the Italian restaurant in the front row and paying the same.

We arrived at L'Osteria at 8:20 p.m. and only wanted to order a takeaway pizza. We were rudely told that takeaway wasn't possible because the kitchen closes at 9:00 p.m. We were only offered the option of sitting down and eating there, which we did. At the end, we were able to have our remaining pizza boxed up and take it home!! Apparently, no one understands this logic. One of the young waitresses was very unfriendly and seemed very confused, even though it wasn't busy. Maybe she should reconsider her job choice.

Until our last visit, we were regular guests at L'Osteria, right on the Trave River. Unfortunately, we encountered an extremely unfriendly receptionist. After a very derogatory remark to her colleague about us (we had allowed ourselves to go to the bar instead of waiting outside at the glass window like we were in front of a disco), we were ignored. Despite being a child and a senior citizen of over 80. After several tables were taken without reservations before us, we asked about it. In a normal tone. Unfortunately, the rude response was anything but normal. We were even threatened that we could sit at the table for 6 because of her, but she would definitely seat two strangers at our table. Why?! There are also empty seats at other tables? It quickly became clear that the young woman was completely overwhelmed and seemingly unsuited for this position. For example, several people had to get up because they sat down at an empty table. One guest was asked to leave by the woman, chest to chest, on his way into the restaurant. As if someone had trespassed into her garden and violated her rights. The way into the restaurant was clear; the woman only occasionally stood at her desk to greet people. Her manner? A mixture of snooty and annoyed. Unpleasant. Our visits to L'Osteria end here.

We were there twice last week and were very satisfied. The male waitress was very friendly and the food was delicious. Our child loved the view of the passing ships.

We've been to the Travemünde restaurant several times. Today, the receptionist was a bit reserved, but by no means unfriendly. The table service was very attentive and pleasant. The food was of the usual good quality, although the macaroni was perhaps a bit too hard.

I'm so sorry. I've never eaten such a bad pizza as today. The pizza wheel was large, the crust completely burned and hard as steel. The toppings were nothing special, thrown on carelessly. I prefer quality over quantity. Never again. Sorry.

Yeah...a mass-market osteria! Huge pizzas that tower over the plate, with a wide selection and a great Italian base. But it's somewhat lacking in love, with ingredients thrown on, and little in the way of a specific flavor. Seasonings are definitely lacking, like oregano, as well as salt and pepper. The latter were only brought to the table upon request and shared with neighboring tables. The "salt shaker" was very discount-store-like, and the pepper mill was almost empty and functionally limited. But the service was very friendly, well-trained, and simply nice!

Hello to all couples! We wanted to eat at this restaurant today, August 22nd, at 5 p.m. Even though most tables were occupied by two people, we were refused a table. The young lady told us that four people had to sit at the table. So we had to get up. After that, we left. I can only advise every couple to eat somewhere else where men are welcome as guests. It's disgraceful for such a restaurant. We will not be going to the establishment again.

After the visit, the entire family suffered a foodborne illness/intoxication, requiring hospitalization. There was also bickering within the team, which visitors were aware of.

The service from Dulgo was excellent. The food was perfect, as always. This Losteria is perfect by the water, especially the high tables.

We were here for lunch. Although the restaurant was busy, we were served promptly and were able to choose one of the free tables. The food was good and plentiful. The pizza was very large, nice and thin, and relatively well-topped. Only the salami wasn't to my taste. We would come back.👍

Reservations are required during the summer months. It takes longer than at other restaurants to serve your order. This may be due to a lack of staff.

Top service and flexible table allocation, puts you in a good mood, we were lucky and had a convivial table with lovely people from southern Germany and Bavaria, I was impressed by the glass blower from Schott-Zwiesel...very interesting this profession (P.S. the glasses in the Osteria were actually from Schott-Zwiesel)

Be careful when buying a voucher. I received one as a gift two years ago and wanted to redeem it. The vouchers are valid for three years, so everything would have been fine. The waitress checked and said it had been invalid for two years. I received it in May 2023, and the voucher system was changed in August 2023 (I only found this information through research). So we left the restaurant without eating because we felt ripped off. I've sent an email to L'osteria; we'll wait and see. There was no information at the time about the system being changed. It might have been a good idea.

We had a reservation and had to wait forever to be seated. Then we weren't served for 20 minutes, even though we went to the waiters and pointed it out. The terrace was quite full, but inside (where we were seated) everything was empty. I can't understand such abysmal service.

The food and coffee were really delicious. However, we had to wait a really long time here, just for the drinks. This was despite the restaurant not being very busy. However, be sure to ask for the bill when paying. Waiters often add a tip themselves, at least 5%. We noticed this here in Travemünde when we asked for the bill, and also twice at the restaurant in Lübeck.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, today, two years after the review below, we had to experience a service unlike anything I've ever experienced before, and I'm sure that's not the standard for this otherwise super service-friendly chain. In short, today we had service (a younger, short blonde lady) who, in my opinion, is unacceptable for this location, this chain. Cheeky, cheeky, and obsessed with having the last word. We even decided to abort the trip and drove to L'Oseria in Lübeck. My advice is to take the drive. Top service, and the pizza and pasta are incredibly delicious. That's how I imagine it! Great conditions, incredibly delicious pizza, a lovely atmosphere, and 100% child- and family-friendly. After Leipzig, you're next to Lostaria in Germany. I recommend anyone considering going there to do so. Kick it, guys, it was an honor.

We ate at your restaurant a few days ago. The restaurant itself was clean, tidy, and had a beautiful view of the sea. The atmosphere was pleasant overall. Unfortunately, the food was of very poor quality, which was very disappointing. The "Caesar salad" consisted of almost a lot of lettuce, but it was flavorless and lacked Caesar sauce. The fried bread was also tasteless and poorly prepared. There was almost no chicken with sauce, and the pasta lacked any flavor. The meat, although well-cooked, also lacked any noticeable flavor. The worst part, however, was the pizza—it was practically "nothing," with no toppings, no flavor, and completely disappointing. There were five of us in total, and two of us suffered from severe stomach pain and cramps the night after the visit, making it difficult to sleep. There was also a mistake with one of our drinks: We had specifically ordered a non-alcoholic drink, but it most likely contained alcohol. We would like to ask you to take this incident seriously and review the quality of the food to provide a better experience for future guests.

The food is delicious. The service is attentive. I'm deducting points because, due to its size, half of the pizza was sitting on the table, with nothing else underneath. The place was packed, so the cleanliness might not have been as great for the next person at the table.

Embarrassing for a Losteria. First of all, my companions and I waited over an hour for our food. I didn't want any onions, but they gave me extra. There were only a few shrimp on my pizza, just sitting on a small corner. The pizzas were very large, as I'd expect from a Losteria, but the pasta was extremely small, and my companion wasn't satisfied. And on top of that, the staff was very unfriendly. The restaurant manager should be given a proper education on how to work.

A recent experience – and never again! What we just experienced at L'Osteria in Travemünde was simply disrespectful. We arrived less than an hour ago, were seated at a table – and from that moment on, completely ignored. For a full 30 minutes, not a glance, not a greeting, not a single question. Employees walked right past us several times, some with empty trays, pretending we were invisible. After 40 minutes without any service, we simply got up and left. Not even a "Sorry" or "Have you ordered yet?" – nothing. It's completely incomprehensible to us how guests can be treated like that. I don't have a problem if it's busy or if you have to wait a few minutes. But not receiving any attention for half an hour isn't just bad service – it's no service at all. For us, one thing is clear: This was the first and last time. If you want to eat out in Travemünde, you should look for a restaurant, such as Peter Pane, that welcomes guests – unfortunately, this L’Osteria is not one of them.

The pizza is delicious and large. Unfortunately, our pre-order for 7:30 p.m. wasn't ready in time, or rather, the orders were mixed up, and someone else got our pizza. Total chaos in the kitchen, reminiscent of mass production.

Incredibly bad – in every respect!! DO NOT GO THERE – the service was the worst I've experienced in years, cold food, dirty restrooms, dirty restaurant. Unfortunately, the order had to be corrected several times, then the drinks and food arrived at the same time, with the appetizers following. The children's food was completely wrong and only arrived after the meal. I'm speechless. We were even yelled at very rudely by two waiters in the restaurant. I'm very shocked by the hygiene, the service, the food – NEVER AGAIN. However, one waitress who wasn't in charge of us was really nice!

The service was very friendly, but we had to wait 90 minutes for our pizza. Even though it was busy and not all tables were occupied, a warning in advance would have been customer-friendly. Generally speaking, if you wait 90 minutes, something is fundamentally wrong.

What you (usually) expect from L'Osteria: -No long wait times -Standard quality -Quick service and well-organized What you find in Travemünde: -Even with a reservation, you have to ask outside in line if anyone else with a reservation is waiting -After you get past the line and the responsible employee arrives, you're quickly presented with your table choices -The first order arrived relatively quickly, as did the drinks -The food, however, takes at least 45 minutes or more -In one case, the pizza was more than just carelessly slapped with toppings - it was clearly in a hurry, unfortunately the taste wasn't great, and it wasn't up to local standards -You get the feeling that, due to the influx of tourists, no effort is needed anymore -They also accommodate too many guests for the available space with too few staff -I usually always tip (much to my wife's dismay 😂) - even after giving feedback on the wait time and quality, there was no tip from the previous order. Only those who assigned tables and were not responsible for the food received a sour "sorry" -Men's restroom (for sitting) was dirty and there were no paper towels for drying hands

The pizza and pasta were delicious, but it was the first time I didn't tip when paying. The service was nice, but we had to wait 75 minutes for our food. I've never had to wait that long before, and it created a sense of time pressure. After waiting 75 minutes between bruschetta and the main course, my hunger was almost gone, and we were just annoyed.

It was extremely crowded, almost like a mass-processing restaurant. Our server was attentive. Our table wobbled, which was very annoying. Furthermore, the tables were all too close together. The pizza was good, as you'd expect from a chain. But in the end, I would have preferred to go somewhere else.

This was our second time here, and both times it was great. Everyone was very friendly and took great care of us. There were pens for the little one and a great view for us. The food was great. Reservations are recommended.

We ate there yesterday and were happy with everything. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was also excellent. My only comment: since we've eaten at several L'Osterias before, and I noticed that the BBQ chicken pizza was never as seasoned as here in Travemünde, they should remind customers of this; not everyone can handle spice. But otherwise, a full 5 out of 5.

The food is incredibly delicious. I had the spaghetti carbonara. The service was very friendly and gave my wife a very good recommendation. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place, as the view is also fantastic.

The service was very friendly and prompt, and the food was great!!! We'd love to visit you again on our next vacation in Travemünde 🥰 Melon/strawberry salad with homemade dressing, roasted chicken breast strips, pasta with basil pesto, spaghetti Bolognese, and a mega pizza. The food was good! We had various dips with bread and butter, followed by pizza. It's good that you can order two different halves. The pizza was really big and (we) enjoyed it. Service was really nice and attentive! We sat upstairs, and the air was eerie. Temperatures like a sauna, but with the smell of food. And that was despite the fact that a door was already open at the back. I wouldn't want to experience that when it's 30 degrees outside...

Having previously enjoyed L’Osteria in another location, I returned with high expectations — and I was thoroughly impressed by the same quality and menu choice. The food itself was delicious and the pizzas are a great deal bigger than other restaurants. A real treat if you’re hungry. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient with prompt service although the restaurant was quite busy. Our food arrived around 15 minutes after ordering which was unexpected but very welcome. The location of the restaurant is ideally placed whatever the weather. Outdoor seating makes for a good harbour view and plenty of indoor seating over two floors. Highly recommended and will continue to search for L’Osteria when I’m away travelling. You really won’t be disappointed.

We spontaneously stopped by for dinner today on a rainy evening without a reservation. Since we didn't have a reservation, we were seated pretty quickly in the covered outdoor area. Bruschetta... very good, 45 cm pizza very tasty, spaghetti Bolognese also very tasty 😋 The service staff was very friendly and attentive. After a small oversight by a colleague (hence deducting a star), they immediately apologized, and an espresso and dessert were on the house. All in all, we were very satisfied. Thank you very much, we would love to come back.

Although it was quite busy, the service was attentive and prompt. The food, typical of an Osteria, was good—very good—and served very quickly. The price/performance ratio is very good. This rating has been confirmed repeatedly.

We waited a total of almost an hour for our food. After 45 minutes? I asked where our food was. Only then was it brought. The food was rather meager: five pieces of mozzarella on a giant pizza, not balanced.

Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time, both to take our order (20 minutes) and for the food to arrive (40 minutes). It seems either understaffed or uncoordinated. There was only one server for the fully booked upper floor... We were fed up after more than an hour. There are other ways to spend the evening in Travemünde.

We often go to L'Osteria at home. This time we wanted to try the Travemünde restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. It was busy at 6:00 PM, but we got a table quickly. Despite the hectic pace, the service team had the restaurant well under control. The pizza was well-topped and perfectly prepared.

The pizza tasted good. But it took forever to be served and arrived cold. The salad I ordered wasn't brought, but I wasn't charged for it either. Hence the B rating. But the atmosphere, with the Hanseatic cog and Peter Pan sailing past, while eating in perfect weather! These are conditions you should take advantage of.

Conditionally. Our order seemed to have been forgotten. We asked after 45 minutes, as other guests who had ordered later were already eating. The server gave a terse reply: "It's busy and nothing happened." We spoke to another server again, and finally our pizza and salad plates arrived, but without an apology. The pizza and salad tasted average. The pizza was very large, but had a very wide crust. The price was on the higher side.

Today, we went to L'osteria Travemünde for the first time with our parents (who are in their mid-80s). Everything was great. We'd love to go back. The service staff is more than happy to handle the extremely large crowds and is always very friendly. We've already seen the pizzas, dishes, etc. at other locations – they were exactly the same. All in all, a successful evening with a beautiful view, and we'd love to go back!
