Königlicher Hirschgarten Restaurant & Biergarten & take away in München

I wrote the following email to the restaurant on December 23, 2025 – unfortunately, I haven't received a reply to this day! Very disappointing: Dear Sir or Madam, Yesterday, a group of 21 of us visited your Hirschgarten restaurant for curling and dinner! After using two lanes from 6 pm to 8 pm, we went to the restaurant. What we experienced there is unworthy of the Hirschgarten! After the waiter took our drink orders and brought them to us, we ordered our food. While taking our orders, the waiter informed us that he couldn't do anything with the names of the dishes (roast pork, schnitzel, etc.), he needed the number – unusual, but okay! Curiously, this was also the case during our visit in December 2024 – so it seems to be standard practice at the Hirschgarten! A few of the 21 of us ordered a soup as a starter. After a few minutes (it really was quick), the soup arrived – a little too salty, but still acceptable! Just a few minutes later, the main course arrived. In my opinion, that's unacceptable! After pointing out that some people wanted to eat the soup first and then the main course, he put the plate back on the counter. Anyone who didn't have a starter should at least start with the beef strips, schnitzel, etc. As soon as the empty soup bowls were cleared away, the main course arrived. The fried potatoes from the roast beef with onions were only lukewarm, the tarte flambée was cold around the edges, the gravy from the beef strips had already formed a skin, and so on. I assume the dishes were sitting in the kitchen while we waited and were then served again. This is probably common practice in the restaurant industry, but it should at least be done in a way that the customer doesn't notice! ... I'd had enough, so I approached your restaurant manager at the entrance and explained the situation! "Where are you sitting?" he asked, then ran off, presumably gave his waiters a piece of his mind, and disappeared. Our waiter then came to me, apologized, and said, "Things are pretty chaotic in the kitchen right now!" In my opinion, the least he could have done was apologize to us, not just send the waiter out! I've now gone to the trouble of writing everything down again, but an evening like yesterday is simply unacceptable! We certainly spent a good €600 with you yesterday; the curling lane alone cost €212. Our plan was to do the same thing again with you on January 5th, 2026 – we'll have to think very carefully about that! It would be nice to receive some feedback from you, as the proprietor of one of Munich's traditional restaurants.

I've been a regular at this restaurant for 20 years. Unfortunately, I have to say that the quality of the food is steadily declining. Many years ago, it was one of the places to be for traditional German home cooking in Munich. However, little of that remains. It's mass-produced, with lukewarm dishes and sometimes quite poor quality. Often served within a minute or two. With some dishes, especially on the daily specials menu, I also wonder how they justify their decidedly high prices. It's certainly still a cozy restaurant with a great atmosphere and delicious beer, but the quality is definitely on the downside. A real shame.

The food is great, but we keep coming back for the excellent service. Today we had a table for 10 people and children. The waiter was truly first-class. Every request went unanswered and he was always incredibly friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined recently, even though it had improved significantly since the change of ownership.

We've been coming here for many years – especially during the winter months – to play curling and then eat in the restaurant. Unfortunately, we've noticed a significant decline in the quality of the food in recent years. The price-performance ratio is no longer acceptable to us. For example, €6.50 for a semolina dumpling soup with only one dumpling, which didn't even seem homemade, strikes us as overpriced. As always, we were a large group and tried several dishes – unfortunately, with a consistently similar impression. The food tasted neither fresh nor high-quality and was also barely seasoned. After several disappointing visits, we will continue to enjoy using the curling rink, but we will no longer be dining in the restaurant. We regret this very much, especially since we have been loyal regulars for many years.

We were there yesterday with a larger group of about 20 people (including some children). We weren't expecting anything special, but we received a very warm welcome, and we had a particularly lovely waiter/waiter. We booked at short notice, and the table was set up in a wonderfully cozy way. Everyone enjoyed the food, and the prices are really fair. So, thank you very much, especially for the excellent service. The beer garden is beyond reproach; we've been going there for decades. The children go to the candy stand and to feed the deer, and we go because it's simply beautiful and they always have good Augustiner beer. The men behind the bar are legendary, of course. It can be a bit disconcerting at times, especially if you have guests from outside Munich, but that's just their grumbling... The pours aren't always perfect either, but if you're brave enough, you can ask for a refill. Overall, it's simply a classic Munich beer garden with a long history, and we sincerely hope it stays that way forever. The restaurant is great, the food is delicious, but the real highlight is the waitresses and waiters, who are always quick, friendly, and above all, smiling. I simply feel comfortable when I'm around smiling and cheerful people, and that's exactly what you'll find here.

I was at the curling rink first and went into the restaurant without a reservation. I was greeted very warmly. As I said, I was there in the afternoon without a reservation. They were going to clear a table for one, surrounded by menus and newspapers, for me. When I asked if there wasn't another table available, the older gentleman seated me at a "regular" table, just like other guests. These tables were reserved for the evening. Honestly, I haven't experienced such a thing in a long time – being given such a "snooze-fest" table as a single person. Especially since I had said I just wanted to grab a quick bite and a drink. The food was okay. The waiter did his job. The prices, in my opinion, were rather high.

On Boxing Day, we went to the Hirschgarten restaurant with the whole family – a place we, as Munich residents, have often visited and usually enjoy. This time, however, the experience was all the more disappointing. I ordered the duck from the Christmas menu. The food arrived very quickly, but it was immediately obvious that the duck leg had been prepared some time ago and was simply being reheated. Unfortunately, this impression was confirmed by the taste. The dumpling also seemed neither fresh nor particularly high-quality. After a moment's thought, I sent the dish back. The service was friendly and professional in this situation – I was offered a new portion (which I declined), and in the end, I didn't have to pay for the plate. I thought that was very fair. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't an isolated incident at our table: My father-in-law's roast beef with onions, which he ordered medium, arrived well-done. Overall, the quality of the food has declined significantly compared to the past and no longer justifies the prices charged. I'm not writing this review to complain, but because I've always liked the Hirschgarten – and because you can only fix problems if you know about them. I truly hope the kitchen returns to its former glory.

Excellent cuisine: I had venison medallions, cooked pink, with wild broccoli and Parmesan fritters. Absolutely perfect. At a very reasonable price. Very friendly staff and fast service.

A very stylish Bavarian restaurant. We really enjoyed it.

The food has declined significantly over the years, even after a change of ownership. Portions have become very small, they're stingy with the sauce, and the food used to taste much better. Outside in winter, the mulled wine is simply warm wine, regardless of whether it's white or red. It's a real shame, and unless things improve, it's no longer worth visiting except in summer.

The winter decorations made the atmosphere very appealing. Service was standard, nothing special. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations.

We were there for a Christmas party. The food was very good, the service friendly, and the curling was also good.

Unfortunately, the beer wasn't really filled to the brim, the waiter was unfriendly, and the food left something to be desired... A classic tourist trap, it seems... A shame, because the atmosphere was quite nice. But the best part is that apparently you don't have to tip at all because the waiters earn so much they don't need the customers' tips and just sulkily ignore them.

I visited this place last year and again this year, and it's unchanged! No renovations or modernizations have been done, even though it's a well-known restaurant. Inside, it looks like a medieval restaurant with windows and wooden pillars. We live in the 21st century, and focusing on the younger generation is far more important than simply maintaining a style that only appeals to older customers. Unfortunately, there are no creative ideas for developing the place further.

The Royal Cherry Orchard lives up to its name in some ways – the food was genuinely delicious. The roast beef with onions, priced at a hefty €27, was perfectly acceptable in terms of quality. However, it seems that "royal" here refers more to the Versailles-sized portions served on a diet. The amount was so meager that you wonder if the main course was accidentally served as an appetizer. It certainly doesn't leave you feeling half-full – more like half-hopeful. The waiter was very friendly and apologetic, saying he hears this often. Which begs the question: Why doesn't anything change then? 😅 Conclusion: Delicious – yes. Royal – in terms of price. Satiated – unfortunately not. If you still have the energy for a second visit after your meal, this is the place for you. 🍽️👑

I was there for the Christmas party with my department. We did some curling and then ate. The lanes are great, real ice. I just think the place is way too brightly lit. It doesn't create a cozy atmosphere at all. But what I found worst of all was how small the portions in the restaurant have become. The meat in the schnitzel was thinner than the breading. No joke, no exaggeration. The taste was great. But after one main course, I don't want to have room in my stomach for a second one. What a shame. The whole team was disappointed.

We were there the day after All Saints' Day, on Sunday. I will never set foot in there again. I ordered duck with dumplings, my friend ordered pork knuckle, and both dishes were clearly precooked, frozen, and reheated. The dumpling wasn't fresh either, with a hard center. We couldn't eat it. It's tourist traps, a complete dumping ground. The absolute worst.

The waiter was very nice and gave us some helpful suggestions. Food was good and good portion sizes. Editing this months later because I want to emphasize my appreciation for this kind waiter who spent time to help us picky eaters select food and drink we’d enjoy. Looking back on this trip, I so much appreciate his kindness.

Six of us had lunch at the Hirschgarten on Saturday. The food was, as usual, very good. Special mention goes to our waiter (unfortunately, I don't have his name), who made our stay a wonderful experience with his constant attention, great friendliness, and humor.

Waited over 30 minutes and the waiters refuse to serve us so we went somewhere else.

The roast pork was good, the usual concrete crust was quite small, but I'm not that keen on that anyway. The gravy was good, no thickening taste. The coleslaw is extra, it was good. I could have done without the parsley and cherry tomatoes, but they weren't too bad. My friends were also happy with the Obatzten (sweet potato wedges). The restaurant is quite tastefully decorated, the waitresses are attentive even under pressure, but the noise level can be quite high. 19/20/2025 Today the church fair goose was a bit dry, the apples in the Waldorf salad were tasteless, and the walnuts were a bit rancid. The red cabbage was good. A real shame, I expected more.

My daughter Faeryl and I are travelling all over! We came all the way from New Zealand. So very very happy we found this beautiful beer garden. Amazing food, delicious cold Radler, and our server Alek was thee best! We walked back to our accommodation through the gorgeous Hirshgarten. All round lovely experience. You shouldn't support scammers. The picture is of the Maß I received (haven't had a sip yet). Optimistically, that's 900 ml (the calibration mark for 1 liter is above the groove in the glass...). So, for every 10 Maß, this "beer garden" has "saved" one. And when you arrive for a refill, the excuse that I've already had it will surely come up...no thanks!

THE beer garden in Munich. At least, it's the largest, with approximately 7,000 seats. It's beautifully situated, but parking is a hit or miss. Pretzels, Obazda (traditional Bavarian sausage), and other delicacies are delicious. The waitress area also serves many other Bavarian delicacies. There are playgrounds for children. In the self-service area, you can bring your own snacks, just like in many large beer gardens. You can get drinks from the various taps. But you should really enjoy the many delicacies on offer. The beer garden is also easily accessible by public transport.

An absolutely wonderful experience at the Royal Hirschgarten in Munich! We were there for lunch – in glorious sunshine in the beautiful outdoor area right next to the park, with a view of the deer and roe deer. A brass band played traditional Bavarian songs, and the atmosphere was simply perfect: relaxed, authentic, and typically Munich. The service was extremely friendly, the beer ice-cold and delicious, and the food was also excellent – ​​the half knuckle of pork and the roast pork with crackling were particularly delicious. What makes the Hirschgarten so special: It's both quiet and relaxing in the countryside, but the terrace has a lively, cheerful atmosphere. An ideal mix for anyone who wants to experience Bavarian coziness. A clear recommendation – we had a great lunch and will definitely be back!

Overall the place is okay, but I didn’t like that my Schorle was served noticeably underfilled. It gave the impression of carelessness and spoiled the experience a bit. I hope the staff will pay more attention to such details.

We were apparently scammed at the restaurant. We were dining with a group, and our actual bill was €387. However, the waiter billed us €450. Only after we asked for it did he provide the detailed bill. After a lengthy discussion, we were finally able to partially reclaim the overcharge. In addition, the tip was already included in the bill without any question or agreement. Nevertheless, the waiters subsequently demanded another tip, giving us the impression that we hadn't yet given one.
