On July 29, 2025, my wife and I were at the Hirschgarten restaurant. First of all, we haven't had such a bad meal in a very long time. We ordered two alcohol-free Augustiner beer, which were served very quickly and tasted excellent, and two Wiener Schnitzels. However, the two Wiener Schnitzels arrived within five minutes of ordering, which doesn't exactly indicate fresh preparation; that's how they tasted, too. Lukewarm with a spongy coating. Since I'm diabetic and had already injected insulin, the waiter was nowhere to be seen, and we were also very hungry, we just ate the food. When paying, I spoke to the waiter about it. Besides the usual platitudes about how I should have complained sooner, but he was nowhere to be seen, his response culminated in the statement that with so much food being served, something could happen. Then please don't put a Wiener Schnitzel on the menu for almost €30.00 if the kitchen isn't capable of preparing a Wiener Schnitzel fresh—and not, as the waiter then admitted, just frying a lot and then keeping it "warm"—and serving it warm with crispy breading to the guest. The only pleasant thing was the very friendly and nice lady who took the table reservation over the phone. I sent an email to the restaurant, but it hasn't been answered yet, hence my warning in the forum about the Wiener Schnitzel at the Hirschgarten Restaurant.

Beautiful ambiance, but unfortunately disappointing service on our last visit We enjoy visiting the Hirschgarten every year and have always been very satisfied. Yesterday, too, we were initially greeted warmly by a lady and seated at a table. Shortly, however, a waiter came over with a grim expression and questioned why four of us were sitting at a table for eight (we were four adults and three children). Unfortunately, he remained consistently unfriendly throughout the restroom service. Twice, he brought us additional items we hadn't ordered, claiming they were ours. When paying, we decided not to tip because of his behavior. He then said, "You're probably not from Bavaria; we tip 10% here." My response was, "If you'd been friendly, I would have gladly tipped you." I'm always happy to tip for good service. Unfortunately, I have to deduct another star for the very dirty restrooms in the self-service area. Nevertheless, the atmosphere with the deer in the enclosure next door remains beautiful, and so far we have always had positive experiences in the Deer Garden.

One of the best beer gardens (and the largest) in Munich. They serve Augustiner beer, you can get your own stein, if you want a shandy, you can pour yourself a soda, and they serve fish on a stick from the fisherman Vroni—what more could you want? ;-)

We were in the waitress area of the Hirschgarten. The food was good for the size of the area. Unfortunately, the roast pork was only lukewarm. There could have been a bit more meat. Service was very friendly and pleasant. Fair prices for Munich. The ambiance was very, very good for such a large beer garden.

We visited the self-service beer garden. It was a dream to sit under the chestnut trees and enjoy food and drinks. The draft beer and the food were excellent. It's a great place to relax and unwind. We'll definitely be back.

We were here for our company's summer party. A beautiful, large beer garden – which we unfortunately didn't get to enjoy much of due to the weather. But at least it was quite cozy inside, too. I opted for the Leberkäse (meatloaf) – and my extra request for fried potatoes as a side dish was also granted. All in all, a pretty typical visit to a Bavarian restaurant – definitely worth doing!

Unfortunately, absolutely not recommended!! Service is rude and inattentive!! Minus ten stars!! We were there during the week, and the beer garden was at most half full. Nevertheless, the drinks were poured "well below the calibration mark." When I told the waiter this, he immediately addressed me informally...and in a rather snippy tone, trying to make it seem as if it wasn't so bad and I shouldn't be so upset. He also touched my shoulder. Only reluctantly did he bring a properly poured glass. If, in sales terms, you turn a liter into...1.5 liters, then that's fraud!! After seeing the very small portions on other guests' plates, I decided not to order anything. But that wasn't enough. Every time he passed me, he made sharp comments, and when I wanted to pay, he walked past me especially often to show me that I could pay if he thought it was right. The accent says it all, which is why it's no surprise that people here don't really like such people. The mere fact that you're addressed informally on the review page shows that customers can't expect any decency or manners, let alone respect and good manners.

Always beautiful and simply a great place in our city—including a beer-filled beer, something you rarely find in Munich these days. You can feed the deer, and overall, the beer garden is simply lovely.

The Hirschgarten beer garden is generally very nice. The food in the self-service area is also perfectly fine. The prices are normal for Munich. However, as far as the waitresses in the beer garden are concerned, I've never experienced anything so unprofessional and rude. We were sitting in the self-service area with eight people on a Friday afternoon. Due to a sudden rain shower, we found a seat in the waitress area, which, according to a waitress, shouldn't be a problem. However, when we looked for available seats, the waitresses in charge of the respective beer gardens turned us away with the words, "Everything is reserved here." When we asked when reservations were available (we didn't want to stay too long), they simply listed random times. A reserved sign was only on a few tables. When we were graciously allowed to sit at a table that hadn't been reserved until later in the evening, the spectacle continued. When we wanted to order, he said he had to serve his guests first... weren't we guests? When he returned about 10 minutes later, we were able to place our orders. The first person wanted to order a coffee. The waiter's response was that they don't serve coffee here, or rather, he doesn't like serving it; we should order a beer instead (coffee was, of course, on the menu). He was kind enough to let him order a hot chocolate after all. Four people then ordered beer. A fifth person didn't want to order anything yet. The waiter's response was that if you want to order later, I'll have to go back, and it will take longer for you to get something. Two people wanted to order Kaiserschmarren, but according to the waiter, it would take 40 minutes. When the hot chocolate and the four beers arrived, and one of them wanted to pay right away because he had to leave, he forced the other person to pay for the other's four beers as well. When he was persuaded to do so, the waiter demanded a total of €40. However, a liter of beer only costs €8.80... so he included a €1.20 tip per liter. Including the tip in the price and forcing someone to pay for everyone equally so that he has less work and a guaranteed tip is simply unacceptable and is rude and cheeky. Because of this incident, we will definitely not visit the service area of the beer garden again.

Truly bad, unfriendly, rude service. We had to wait forever for food and drinks, even though the place wasn't even that busy. The beer is served half-frothy. The veggie burger tastes like nothing. Go somewhere else. There are so many nicer beer gardens!

We've been here several times for food and drinks, and I highly recommend the Helles beer. It tastes really good, and the carbonation isn't too strong, like with some other beers. Unfortunately, I have to deduct a few points for the food, not because it doesn't taste good, but because it's rather basic and not really outstanding in terms of flavor. Once I had a Leberkäse (meatloaf) with a fried egg and potato salad. This dish was really fair and tasty considering the price. The other time I had a roast beef with onions and fries, as the fried potatoes were served rather carelessly, without bacon, spring onions, or chives. My colleagues' fried potatoes looked more like they had just been seared, burnt in places, and then served. The meat still tasted very good, and the cooking was also very well done. Top notch. The ambiance is, of course, an absolute 10/10. It has that classic alpine feeling, and the outside area is a classic beer garden. Absolutely nothing is missing here, and everything fits together perfectly. The service is really fast and very attentive. Drinks and food are brought to the table very quickly.

We were in the beer garden. I have to express my deep respect to the service staff; what they do in the large beer garden is truly outstanding. There was nothing wrong with the food, but it could be more different from other Bavarian restaurants. It feels like a good cafeteria, but unfortunately, nothing more.

Das Augustiner war perfekt temperiert. Dass man im Biergarten reservieren kann, war sehr angenehm. Licht und Schatten jedoch bei den Speisen: Leckerer Obatzter, das Hendl war kross und saftig. Die Spareribs waren dafür absoluter Müll!! Eine Frechheit, so einen Mist aus der Küche zu geben. Selbstredend hat das die Bedienung überhaupt nicht interessiert. Fazit: Nette Location, aber man muss bei den Speisen aufpassen, da sich der eine oder andere Zonk verbirgt.

The food was delicious. The service was absolutely top-notch. The prices are reasonable, and there's something for everyone on the menu. The outdoor area is very large, so it's quite crowded. All in all, I would eat there again.

Too often, the beer is poured just below the measuring line. When you politely ask for a small top-up, you're told, "Sneak away, once the foam is completely gone, it'll reach the measuring line." Very rude.

Very large beer garden, beautifully situated under trees

It's in a big park. There's an area with deers. There was an amusement park when we went. There's a big restaurant where you can taste beer and other German dishes. It's a nice place.

Beautifully located, this "old" beer garden is traditionally open for food. The bars are well-staffed and serve quickly. Numerous events, weddings, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc., testify to the pleasant atmosphere. Easily accessible by public transport.

It is recommended to drink beer in large liter mugs with a very large beer garden, bretzel, bratwurst sausages and several kinds of German appetizers.

The restaurant's expensive food with very small portions, attentive but overzealous service, and the focus on sales rather than the customer. The seating is quite pleasant, but if I'm in the area again, I'll go somewhere else.

A male waiter is very rude and unfriendly. A group of us ordered food, and when he was serving the food, he yelled at us if someone didn’t answer him immediately. I didn’t speak German and when I went to check out, he was very impatient. After I paid he said “receipt”( he has strong accent, and just said one word, in a noisy environment ), and I didn’t understand it and was trying to leave. He was very rude and told to me “wait!”. After giving me the receipt, he said I should answer yes or no when he said receipt🙄. That’s a very upset thing when you go out to eat and you’re educated by a waiter 👎👎👎👎👎

Due to a thunderstorm, we had to move inside to the restaurant. As a result, we couldn't eat our homemade food and had to rely on the food provided. There was a group of 12 people. No one was particularly happy with the food. We should have left. What a shame!

We visited the Hirschgarten beer garden for the first time on a Sunday afternoon, in the waitress area. We were able to order drinks and food quite quickly and received both within a few minutes. It was very warm and busy that day, but the service was still very good. Everything was delicious, and the seating was really nice. The menu is very varied, so there's something for everyone. We'd love to come back the next time we're in Munich.

Spacious beer garden with everything your heart desires. Music is also available! Radler/ Maß 9.60 Tegernseer Hell. Food: all the classics. Less tourist trap than the Augustiner near Hackerbrücke. Best reached by public transport: Tram 16/17 from the main station. Alternatively, take the S-Bahn to Hirschgarten and Laim.

Pretzels are charged separately from the Obatzda and cost €2 each. We ordered a share and received four pretzels. The menu says "pretzels." When we asked, we were told we didn't have to eat them! Never again...

Great beer garden, excellent grilled fish. The beer is poorly poured. Ask for a refill up to the mark!

The roast pork was good, the usual concrete crust was quite small, but I'm not that keen on that anyway. The gravy was good, no thickening taste. The coleslaw is extra and was good. I could have done without the parsley and cherry tomatoes, but they weren't too bad. My friends were also happy with the Obatzten (sweet potato wedges). The restaurant is quite tastefully decorated, and the waitresses are attentive even under pressure; the noise level can be quite high.

The food was good for the amount spent and the beer garden was well-filled. The positive thing was that the price of beer in the self-service area was €8.50. Unfortunately you can't get everything in one area. For example you can get beer and coffee somewhere else, but if you want water you have to walk away and the same goes for fish or Tegernseer beer. In the beer garden there is only Augustiner Hell! Edelstoff is only available in the restaurant, unfortunately that is my biggest negative point. Weissbier is also hard to find. However the staff are friendly and helpful. The clearing service works too. My rating 3.9 out of 5 points.

The best beer garden in Munich 😀👍🍺

The food was OK, nothing special. The drinks were good too. The waiter was in a really bad mood. He yelled because he'd forgotten which dish belonged to which guest. And then he didn't want to accept card payments. Only when his colleague "persuaded" him did it stop being a problem. The other waiters were always trying hard, and our waiter seemed to want to call it a day. A truly poor performance by Munich standards.

Great for larger groups, good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Good food and super friendly service. We were there again last week – a bit disappointed with the new owner. I ordered the watermelon salad, which was prepared differently than last year, and the portions were smaller. I also got two pieces of white bread for €1.40. The bread was quite dry and stale – I thought the price was absolutely outrageous. I only took a quick bite and then sent it back. It used to be my favorite beer garden!

Traditional Bavarian beer garden: Food is permitted in the beer garden. Beer and other beverages are available at the tavern. Traditional beer gardens in Bavaria are always unattended. This is not the case in the restaurant area, and bringing food is not permitted.

Tourists need to be careful here. Tables with tablecloths are waiter service, uncovered tables are self-service! Good beer, great atmosphere, and friendly waiters. I have absolutely nothing to complain about here.

At first, it was quite nice, except for the demand for a larger tip. This irritated us a bit, since tipping is a unilateral declaration of intent and not mandatory. The young man explained to us exactly how much we should tip. It's outrageous to treat guests like this! That's why we only gave one star for the service. The food was good. The most beautiful beer garden in Munich

A genuine beer garden under magnificent oak trees. The prices aren't quite as exorbitant as in the city center. A half-liter of beer for €4.40 and cheese spaetzle for €14 are still too much.

What can you say about a beer garden, especially since it's the largest in the world! Getting food and drinks is very easy, self-service, of course. The beer and meatloaf were really good. It's naturally very crowded and loud there—it's just a beer garden, after all. Directly adjacent is a large deer enclosure with very friendly animals.

The Hirschgarten is truly recommended! Our waiter, René Rosenbach, especially made our day. Despite being very busy, he was truly attentive and always had a very friendly smile on his face. We'd be happy to return, especially with the great staff! ☺️

Came for the deer, stayed for the food. Got a meal for three people, payed a bit over €30. Tip: if you wanna feed the deer, bring some carrots or apples with you.

A beautiful beer garden on the edge of a large park, which actually features a deer enclosure. There's a table service area and a large Bavarian beer garden where, as is traditional, you can bring your own food and pick up drinks at the bar. Highly recommended!
