Kolmenhof inn at the Breg spring in Furtwangen im Schwarzwald

A restaurant visit is being reviewed here. The ambiance is really nice and inviting – both inside and out. The staff was very friendly. The salad was delicious. Unfortunately, the schnitzel was extremely fatty – it was dripping. The pork fillet was oversalted and the spaetzle was too dry.

Rating from 7 years ago: 5 stars. I'm now getting strange emails that I can't do much with. The strategy for the future is complicated; there are days when the hotel is open, and the restaurant is no longer available, at least for walk-in customers. Then they mention group events? It would be nice if they communicated why this is changing and made it easier to communicate. It's just a shame for me. Unfortunately, I won't be coming to the Kolmenhof anymore. I feel like I no longer fit the target audience.

I used to come and eat at Kolmenhof, but it's not the same atmosphere or the same quality at all! I won't be coming back, what a shame!

It's a shame the inn is closing. Another restaurant less in the Black Forest, and at the source of the Danube... sad.

The service was a bit overwhelmed. The wait time was too long. The children's ice cream cone was last. They were inflexible when it came to larger groups. The adjacent children's playground was great.

The two of us went to the restaurant on a Sunday after visiting the source of the Danube. Despite it being busy, we got a seat. The service was very friendly, the food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. The location was nice and modern. There are electric charging stations for bicycles. It was closed on Wednesday, but the sign "Open today 12-8pm" made us cut our hike short. To our disappointment, it was actually closed! The sign shouldn't have been there.

We were there for 3 days. The rooms are good, but a bit small. We think it's a shame that for that price, you have to pay an additional €10 per person for the sauna...it's really strange.

The location is wonderful, and there are many great hiking trails all around. The food and service are fantastic. The staff are very polite, despite being very young, and the food is amazing. We will definitely be back.

Peak season in July…and still closed during the week. A shame. They'll probably only open on weekends.

On July 20, 2025, we had lunch at this quaint hotel/restaurant, located at 1,090 meters above sea level, just steps from the North Sea/Black Sea watershed, overlooking the humble and delicate source of the "Danuvius" (and to think that it will become mighty and glorious, crossing eight countries and flowing into the Black Sea after 2,888 km!). The restaurant's interior is intimate, with a beautiful collection of grinders. We had two vegetarian dishes, both delicious, and a very small, humble, and very expensive "Forelle" (trout). Nevertheless, it's worth the climb up the narrow road that leads there to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of this unique location. Enrico Alfonso Ricciardi Montagano CB Italia

Anyone seeking peace and relaxation, who enjoys hiking or biking, will absolutely recommend this place. The host couple is very friendly and everyone has a smile on their face. The inn was very busy on Sunday, and almost equally so on Monday evening, which is certainly a positive for the inn. Especially considering the nearest town is about 7 kilometers away. Unfortunately, the rooms are relatively small and only partially accessible for people with disabilities. This is certainly due to the construction, as the house is older. Summarizing: We were able to relax quite well in 3 days and, if possible, won't be the last time we stay there.

Unfortunately... Wednesday... I don't understand it all anymore, no service at such a hotspot. In the hour we were at the spring, at least 30 people left cursing. Coffee and cake, snacks... where have our good hosts gone?

Das Essen war super, gerade auch für Veganer geeignet. Aber auch für Mischköstler war sowohl das Fleisch als auch der Fisch gut. Das gibt eine volle Punktzahl, sehr zu empfehlen.

We've been there several times! Today it was truly fantastic again. From the service to the quality of the desserts! Insider tip for kids: sit right next to the great playground and simply pick up your food from the restaurant. That way, you can always keep an eye on the kids!

We were at the restaurant to eat trout. This restaurant is known for its trout, as they keep their own trout in their pond. Unfortunately, it was still too cold, and they only had trout from outside. So we decided to order a rump steak. It was supposed to be medium, but it came to the table rare. In fact, it was almost impossible to cut because it was completely raw. The waiters immediately noticed that something was wrong and immediately took the plate to the kitchen. A few minutes later, the same rump steak came back to the table with freshly prepared fries. This time, it was as it should have been. We would have appreciated a coffee or something similar as compensation, especially since the wait was longer due to these circumstances, and the price was, of course, not exactly cheap. We had to leave the restaurant dissatisfied.

It's amazing to see where the Danube actually starts

If you go the Westweg you should definitely stay overnight at the Kolmenhof. The food was excellent, the location was unique at the source of the Danube and the rooms were great too. Just great

Very nicely located, great view from the terrace....great for a short break.... Service employee very stressed and hectic despite self-service. We had a large game soup for 14€, good....but when we asked for bread, we were charged another 1€....Of course bread should be included with a soup!

Great culinary offering, there is also more than the usual for vegetarians and vegans.

I was hiking at the inn with my son for 3 days. The accommodation was nice and neatly furnished. However, there is a deduction for the following points: When we arrived, the air in the room was extremely thick with the scent of lavender and we had to ventilate the room completely for hours. On the first night my son had extreme breathing difficulties, which lasted until departure, even though the window was open 24/7 from the first night onwards, which could have been due to the type of cleaning. There was a strong smell of chlorine in the hallway when we entered the guest house and we therefore assumed that in order to overcome this the room had been sprayed with the aforementioned lavender spray. After 3 days of constant airing, everything had still not been aired out. The breathing difficulties manifested themselves in a scratchy throat and nightly sneezing attacks and a strong cough. He felt perfect during the day while hiking. From the second to third night I also felt similar symptoms at night. The restaurant is highly recommended, the food was very good, the staff was very friendly. Apart from the problem with the room, I can definitely recommend the inn.

We were there for the long weekend with friends. Very friendly, family atmosphere, we felt welcome. Great location at the source of the Danube. Rooms OK and food very tasty. Although the restaurant was sometimes very full, the service was very friendly and the food came quickly. We'll definitely come back again.

We only took a detour to the spring and took a break in the great beer garden. The food was very tasty and the staff was friendly. A very beautiful area

The kitchen is trying so hard, but this listless, bad-tempered service.... Unfortunately, it's joyless. Probably poorly paid. But what can guests do about it? It's expensive enough to bear using a scratching brush. 31 euros for schnitzel, fries and salad - feasible, but as I said, the service should do something about it. A nurse earns 16 euros net per hour and has a really hard time, so waiters, try harder, the cook has a much harder time at his stove

A lovely inn with a lovely terrace and lovely interiors. The many nice non-alcoholic drinks stand out positively. Instead of the usual juices and lemonades, you can also have non-alcoholic Crémant, Hugo or Apérol, which I think is really great. There is more than just one Alibi vegetarian/vegan dish on the menu, this is also remarkable and up to date. And the fact that 100% gluten-free dishes are possible is not a given and shows that someone is thinking about everyone. Great. A shortage of staff is an issue everywhere and unfortunately it can also be felt here. We wanted to eat something yesterday, but one service for the entire terrace was simply not enough. Unfortunately she only had an eye on the front area near the entrance. When she took an order she went a maximum of one table further and then went back in. People who came a long way after us but were sitting closer to the entrance were lucky, we gave up after over 20 minutes in which we weren't even noticed. Too bad. We hope that these were teething problems for the operator and that she might get more support from other staff next time.

Were there for dinner today. There is still a lot left open. Salad very very good. Otherwise... frozen vegetables/mushrooms and spaetzle are not homemade either. Prices are a bit too expensive for what is on offer. Otherwise nice atmosphere and service very friendly.

Nice atmosphere, kind service, quiet location.

We have enjoyed coming here for years. The beautiful terrace invites you to linger, the menu selection is great and the food is fresh and very good! The service is always very nice and the fact that we are allowed to make reservations for several people is not a given.

Ich schreibe diese Rezension, weil mir Google darum gebeten hat. Wir waren mit den Motorräder unterwegs und haben dort nur 1 Tag übernachtet. Für die Motorräder gibt es keinen überdeckten Unterstand oder Garage. Die Gegend ist Traumhaft, dort in der Natur findet wirklich die Ruhe. Das Check-in und -out verlief sehr gut und schnell. Das Hotel ist sehr Familien freundlich, daher findet man im Hotel und Im Restaurant keine Ruhe mehr. An Abendessen empfehle ich auch ab eine Person zu reservieren, das Restaurant ist verhältnismässig unterdimensioniert, vor allem wenn noch auswärtige Leute zum Essen kommen. Die Gartenwirtschaft war offen, aber immer noch zu kalt, um draussen zu essen. Das Restaurant schliesst um 20:30 Uhr danach ist man gezwungen in einem Nebenraum / Aufenthaltsraum zu gehen. Dort wiederum läuft der Fernseher und die Kinder wollen mit Ihren Eltern noch Spiele machen und wenn unter erwachsene Leute ein Gespräch führen will, ist es unmöglich, da die Kinder laut sind und durch den Raum auch dies noch verstärkt wird (keine Schalldämmung). Im Zimmer kann man nicht schlafen, weil nebenan Kinder in der Nacht weinen, also gab es auch keine Erholung und am Frühstück beginnt die alles noch mal von vorne. Der Wirt eher unfreundlich und tut so er sei wichtig, seine Frau hingegen (die Wirtin) sehr freundlich und angenehm. Im Service arbeiten Gastarbeiterinnen aus Polen, sie sprechen einigermassen gut Deutsch und in Englisch können sie sich noch besser ausdrücken. Service eher träge sie reden lieber zuerst mit seiner Kollegin und erst dann, wenn sie fertig ist, kommt sie um zu servieren. Das Essen war gut, allerdings muss man den Salat selber holen und garnieren sowie die Portionen sind eher für zierliche Personen gedacht. Ich bin zumindest nicht satt geworden. Das Bier war sehr gut. Die Hotelzimmer sind zwar renoviert aber es wurde eine leichte Renovation gemacht. Das Bad entspricht nicht mehr an den heutigen Standards. Die Preise sind vernünftig. Fazit: Für Familien Ausflüge absolut geeignet – für paare ohne Kinder eher ungeeignet.

Wonderful hotel with good cuisine and friendly staff. The manager of the house in particular is just a gem; I have rarely experienced something like that in the catering industry. The house and the spring, everything is so wonderfully relaxed and warm. Only the weather wasn't great. We will be back!

Echte Gastfreundlichkeit wurde uns entgegen gebracht. Obwohl noch geschlossen, durften wir (8 Pers.) durchnässt u. unterkühlt Platz nehmen. Die Bedienung, welche uns mit Getränken u. Speisen versorgte, sucht ihresgleichen. Nett, schlagfertig, aber auch Geschäftstüchtig, absolut Daumen hoch. Auch die Speisen, vom Salatbuffet bis zum Fisch und Schlachplatte war lecker.

Ich hatte kürzlich das Vergnügen, im Restaurant Kolmenhof zu speisen, und ich muss sagen, dass dies eines meiner besten kulinarischen Erlebnisse war. Das Highlight des Abends war zweifellos die Rehkeule, begleitet von einem Rehragout, das einfach zum Niederknien war. Dazu wurde Rotkraut und Spätzle serviert, die perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt waren und den Hauptgang ideal ergänzten. Aber nicht nur das Essen war erstklassig. Der Service war ein Traum! Die Bedienung war stets aufmerksam, kam schnell an unseren Tisch, war zuvorkommend und strahlte eine herzliche Freundlichkeit aus, die man selten findet. Man fühlte sich wirklich wertgeschätzt und bestens umsorgt. Als Krönung des Abends entschied ich mich für die Schwarzwälder-Kirschtorte, und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Diese Torte, kombiniert mit einem heißen Cappuccino, war der perfekte Abschluss eines wunderbaren Mahls. Zuletzt möchte ich noch die Atmosphäre des Restaurants hervorheben. Es herrscht eine so schöne und familienfreundliche Stimmung im Kolmenhof, dass man sich sofort wie zu Hause fühlt. Es ist selten, dass man ein Restaurant findet, das in allen Bereichen so glänzt. Für alle, die auf der Suche nach einem unvergesslichen kulinarischen Erlebnis sind, kann ich das Restaurant Kolmenhof wärmstens empfehlen. Es ist nicht nur ein Ort zum Essen, sondern ein Ort, an dem man sich wohlfühlt und genussvolle Stunden verbringt.

Für uns gehört bei jedem Schwarzwaldaufenthalt auch ein Besuch im Kolmenhof dazu. Der Service hier ist schnell und sehr aufmerksam. Das Essen war bisher immer klasse und die großen Portionen immer frisch zu bereitet. Für die Kinder gibt es eigene kleine Karte mit einer guten Auswahl. Bei gutem Wetter können die Kinder draußen auf dem Spielplatz vor dem Biergarten super spielen. Für schlechtes Wetter gibt es auch eine kleinen aber feinen Spielraum.

Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir haben sehr gut gegessen und wurden nett empfangen. Der Ort ist sehr idyllisch und entspannend. Wer weiss, viellicht übernachten wir auch mal dort. Zum essen kommen wir bestimmt noch einmal😉

Netter Ort an der Donauquelle. Wir haben hier eine Wanderpause eingelegt und eine Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte gegessen. Die war gut, aber die von Oma war besser 😉 Service nett aber am Wochenende auch gut ausgelastet

Super zum Einkehren nach dem Wandern. Mitarbeiter:innen sind zuvorkommend, freundlich und schnell, das ist Essen top!! Immer wieder gerne.

Für mich als Wiener ist die Donau natürlich ein Teil der Stadt und als großer Fluß bekannt. Nun stehe ich hier an der Quelle, des zweitgrößten und zweitlängsten Fluss in Europas. Ein kleines Bächlein, weist mir die Richtung meiner Reise, zur Mündung der Donau. Mit seiner Gesamtlänge von 2857 Kilometern, führt sie mich dabei durch zehn Länder, Deutschland, Österreich, Slowakei, Ungarn, Kroatien, Serbien, Bulgarien, Rumänien, Republik Moldau und der Ukraine. Wobei aufgrund der derzeitigen Lage werde ich Moldau und die Ukraine diesmal auslassen.

Ich habe heute eine sehr kleine Forelle bekommen und ich vermute halbes Stück Schwarzwälder Kirschkuchen. Ebenso habe ich am Ende kein Kassenbon erhalten. Kellner war ziemlich unfreundlich. Schade

Très bel établissement, très propre, la gentillesse des patrons et de l'ensemble du personnel, la qualité du restaurant . 2 nuits passées au calme et petits déjeuner succulents à volonté. Cadre magnifique, que du bohneur. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir. Merci

Ich hatte "frische Bauernbratwurst" bestellt, aber nicht geahnt wie frisch die wohl ist. Denn als ich nach hungrigen 30 Minuten mal schüchtern nach meiner Bestellung fragte, hieß es nur "Ist in Arbeit". Da es noch weitere 20 Minuten dauerte bis die ersehnte Wurst endlich kommentarlos serviert wurde, nehme ich mal an, dass die Würste erst nach der Bestellung frisch hergestellt werden. So viel Frische ist ja toll, aber hungrig sollte man die besser nicht bestellen.

Der Kilmenhof liegt idyllisch neben der Martinskapelle und der Donauquelle. Der Service und das Essen war vorzüglich. Es stellt sich ein "Rundumwohlgefühl" ein. Zum Radeln und Biken ein super Ausgangspunkt. Wir können ihn zu 100% weiterempfehlen!

I hope to visit again! Located in a peaceful spot above the town of Furtwagen, Kolmenhof was a sanctuary. Easy but beautiful hiking was readily available from the B&B. Sweeping views from some of the bedrooms. The staff hold every position and were gracious and willing to help. Family run and family friendly establishment.

Tolle Lage mit schönem Biergarten und Terrasse. Direkt neben Martinskapelle. In unmittelbarer Nähe Ubernachtungsmöglichkeiten für autarke Wohnmobile. Guter Ausgangspunkt für MTB und Wandertouren.

Na het bezoek aan de Donau bron hier even een drankje gedaan. Omdat we heerlijk zaten maar gelijk de Dinerkaart gevraagd en van een heerlijke schnitzel genoten. Meer dan voldoende voor ons.

Wir waren mit Menschen mit besonderen Bedürfnisse zu Gast. Die Gastgeber waren sehr freundlich und zeigten sich geduldig. Das Essen (Kässespätzle und Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte) sehr absolute hammer! Sehr lecker!

Wir waren mit einer Grösseren Gruppe vor Ort und wurden mit einem Nicht gerade kleinen Salat zu Vorspeise empfangen. Darauf folgten sehr Schmackhafte Käsespätzle. Abgerundet wurde das gelungene Mittagessen durch hausgemachte Schwarzwäldertorte mit äusserst leckerem Kirschwasser drin. Werde euch bei gelegenheit gerne wieder Besuchen. Besten Dank. Auch euer vorzüglicher umgang mit unseren Mitarbeitern.

Einfach großartig! Nachdem wir schon oft zum Essen im Kolmenhof eingekehrt sind, haben wir dieses mal unseren gesamten Urlaub dort verbracht... Das Haus ist großartig, sehr sauber und es läd einfach zum wohlfühlen ein. Das gesamte Personal ist wahnsinnig herzlich und es wird einem wirklich jeder Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen. Familie Dold hat hier wirklich eine ganz wundervolle Ruheoase geschaffen. Wir freuen uns schon sehr, auf unseren nächsten Urlaub im Kolmenhof ☺️

Wenn man nicht auf die "frischen" Forellen hereinfällt (die gibt es auch im Winter wegen des warmen Wetters immer noch nicht), wird man trotz vollem Lokal ordentlich bedient und das Essen ist ganz in Ordnung. Auch Reklamationen werden großzügig behandelt. Das Lokal eingnet sich prima nach Wanderungen oder nach dem Besuch der perfekt gespurten Panorama-Loipe an der Martinskapelle. Eine Besonderheit: Die Wirtsleute sammeln offensichtlich alte Kaffeemühlen die den Gastraum dekorieren.

Na veel kilometers in de auto en in de benen kwamen we via TripAdvisor terecht bij dit op een restaurant gelegen op een mooie afgelegen plek. Een fijne bijkomstigheid voor ons was dat onze hond mee naar binnen mocht. We kozen als voorgerecht voor soep, dit smaakte goed. We kregen vervolgens een salade ook dit was prima. Als hoofdgerecht hadden we natuurlijk een schnitzel met patat. De porties waren groot, de schnitzels voor ons net iets te droog. Bediening was voldoende, maar het had niet echt iets extra's voor ons. Kinderen kunnen zich hier goed vermaken door de vele speelmogelijkheden. Als de mogelijkheid er was zouden we 3,5 ster willen geven.

Wir waren nur einmal hier. Die Forellen aus heimischer Zucht hatten gereizt. Leider waren alle wegen des heißes Wetters geschlachtet und geräuchert oder tiefgekühlt. Dann reizte auf der Karte "frischer Schweinebraten mit Spätzle und Salat für ca. 17 Euro. Es wurde auch die Forelle gebraten angeboten für schlappe 21 Euro !!?? Das schien übertrieben, ebenso wie das Schnitzel vom Schwein für 17 Euro mit Beilage und Salat! Der " frische" Schweinebraten kam nach 10 Minuten, davor der Salat. Man sah dem Braten an, dass er ca. 3 Tage alt war und kalt dünne aufgeschnitten wurde. Die Ränder waren braun, der Braten komplett trocken, die Schwarte ein matschiger Schwamm. Mit Fertigbratensoße aus dem Eimer und Spätzle aus der Tüte war das Gericht eine Zumutung. Nicht einmal der Wurstsalat Holzfällerart war erträglich. Die Wurst war billig, der Käse ebenso. Diesem Lokal geht es nur darum Essen billig zu erzeugen und teuer anzubieten. Irgendeine Freude am Kochen sucht man vergeblich. Alles ist TK-Ware oder alt und vorgekocht. Leider nur scheußlich, zu komplett überhöhten Preisen!!

Positives: we stayed at the hotel for 3 overnights, room was roomy, very clean and dogs allowed. Bed was comfortable, shower water good flow, room on the first floor which was convenient as stairs with our dog is hard. Restaurant: they set up a nice table just for our anniversary, very nicely decorated out of the way. Husband had Oschenfleisch and I the fresh trout fillet, OMG, the food just melted in your mouth, we enjoyed every morsel!! Unfortunately I have forgotten the young ladies names, but their service, their settings, the care to ensure we had a great anniversary was amazing. Breakfast was tasty & had something for every taste, even had fresh tea leaves for tea. Had WiFi in the restaurant and hospitality room. Negatives: hotel is in the middle of nowhere, no WiFi in the rooms, the first night we had a lot of noise and we didn't get to try their homemade Black Forest cake as the restaurant was closed Wednesday & Thursday night (we had to eat out those nights). Younger members of staff need to work on their egg cooking, it took 3 days before we got a nicely boiled egg.

Ein super schön gelegenes Lokal mit großem Biergarten und angrenzendem Spielplatz. Das Essen ist bodenständig gut, es gibt auch eine Kinderkarte. Die Schwarzwälder Kirsch Torte geht schnell aus, muss wohl gut sein!

Nous étions un groupe de 16 personnes ,l'accueil est très chaleureux ,les plats sont variés ,de très bonne qualité et copieux. Les prix sont très bien placés ,comme d'habitude en Allemagne. Le cadre est magnifique ,très belle terrasse et de la place pour se parquer.

Nous avons découvert cette auberge par hasard, nous étions venus voir la source du Danube et sommes restés pour le dîner. Nous n'avons pas regretté, accueil très chaleureux et bonne cuisine. La truite provient du vivier tout proche et les maultaschen très bien servis. Le sorbet framboise, un vrai délice (glaces et sorbets faits maison).

Leider eine schlechte Erfahrung - sowohl beim Service als auch bei den Speisen. Der Service war bemüht, aber unglaublich unorganisiert. Lange Wartezeit am Einlass (Covid-19 Registrierung), Speisekarte erst nach ca. 10 Minute und Nachfrage. Keine klare Tischzuordnung. Daher dem Personal nicht klar, wer schon bedient wird und wer nicht. Das Essen war ebenfalls kein Genuss (versalzen und Maggi-Suppen). Kleine Portionen.

Der Kolmenhof ist mehr Schein als sein. Auf Marketing und Optik scheint hier mehr Wert gelegt zu werden als auf eine gute Küche. Man muss sich für einen stolzen Preis mit Suppen und Saucen aus der Tüte sowie anderen Fertigprodukten begnügen.

Leider war die Suppeneinlage aus der Packung.Der Kartoffelsalat war aus dem Eimer.Der Rest war in Ordnung.

We came, we saw, & we did not get served. Well, we saw all other guest, that came way later, get served. When asked if there was something wrong with our order, our nose almost got bitten off. I really hope they don’t treat all custumers like this.
