Koempul - authentic Indonesian Restaurant in Berlin

I ordered meatballs, mendoan tempeh, and mixed ice. They were delicious! Unfortunately, many of the menu options weren't available when I went there. :/

I'm still missing the tiny fried fish I used to have with Nasi Liwet here, but I've become absolutely addicted to the Nasi Goreng here (all variations) – it's just perfect compared to other restaurants and the portion size is actually enough to leave me happy!

Really nice food! The ambiance could be better

Unfortunately, I can only confirm some of the negative reviews. The restaurant is quite dirty; the table and menu were sticky. The tray containing the cutlery was full of leftover food from previous guests. The freezer behind the counter was completely black with mold. Luckily, the kitchen wasn't visible from the dining room. The bench seats were also extremely dirty.

Enjoying Indonesian food at Koempul Restaurant is truly a treat. The rendang rice is highly recommended. There's a vegetarian menu and the Palembang specialty, pempek. It's a must-try.

I was really looking forward to the visit because I spent a year in Indonesia myself, but in the end, I was rather disappointed! I had the Gaddo Gaddo, and it looked very promising in the photo on the menu. Unfortunately, the reality was different: there was only half as much on the plate, and the taste was rather disappointing. It was also way too expensive! What a shame!

The food is authentic and the service is friendly. However, the dishes are overpriced. In my dish, Iga Bakar Penyet, the beef wasn't even lukewarm, which strongly suggests it was only inadequately heated in the microwave, and that for a whopping €18.50.

Easy and comfort food. They have really good fresh chilli paste that they serve as well. The chicken curry packs a lot of flavour and the chicken was very well cooked.

Great, authentic Indonesian food. The portions were fine and the price is right. I had bala bala (crispy vegetables) and one of the chicken and rice dishes and enjoyed both a lot. It was a bit chilly inside, but I'd certainly visit here again for the great food.

After visiting this restaurant a few years ago and unfortunately having a disappointing experience with the taste, we decided to give it a second chance and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the catfish, and it was truly outstanding: perfectly seasoned and authentic in taste. I would especially like to highlight the sambal terasi; it was incredibly delicious 😋. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The prices are quite high, but still reasonable considering the quality of the food and the overall pleasant experience. This experience completely changed my mind—the restaurant has improved significantly. It has now definitely become one of my favorite restaurants for Indonesian cuisine.

Unfortunately, the service was completely overwhelmed that evening. The drinks didn't arrive until after the meal. The service was very attentive, but unfortunately, the large number of guests and the limited staff meant that they could only serve them very slowly. The food was good, but the noise in the completely overcrowded interior was hardly relaxing.

It's a cute place. My boyfriend and I had our first anniversary celebration and last dinner together there. I really miss him.

This has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin. There's not 1 dich I ate here that was bad, everything tastes amazing, and tastes like it's done home, with a lot of heart. Must try, Indonesian food is amazing.

Unfortunately, the food was extremely greasy. The fried catfish in particular was so oily that it made us feel sick. We had high expectations, but honestly, I can't understand why this place is rated so highly.

When we entered the store shortly after it opened, there was chaos. There were boxes lying around everywhere and they didn't seem prepared for guests yet. After we sat down, the first thing we noticed was how incredibly dirty everything was. The table was sticky, the menus were greasy, the chairs were dusty and the windows were so dirty you could barely see out. I'd better not waste any words about the toilet. No matter how good the food is or how friendly the service, if the place is so dirty, you just don't feel comfortable. The menu is very detailed and we ordered a varied selection. Since the rest of the visitors also seemed to be from Southeast Asia, we expected an authentic dining experience. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Dishes that were declared "spicy" had no spiciness, while dishes that normally are not were significantly spicier than expected. We expected much more in terms of taste. The prices were also significantly too high for what was offered here. To top it all off, two people in our group actually had stomach problems shortly afterwards, although one can of course only speculate about a connection here. I rarely write such negative reviews, especially when the service was actually really friendly, but there is still a lot of work to be done on price/performance and, above all, CLEANLINESS.

Unfortunately, bad luck. The table hasn't been cleaned properly for a while, the chair upholstery is stained, the menu consists of worn sheets of paper on the clipboard. Toilet area cluttered and not particularly clean. Makes an unhygienic impression. Starters are greasy fried, main course is pre-cooked, pre-fried, warmed up food, unfortunately cold. I then put it back in the microwave but it was still only lukewarm. Carelessly put together, nothing freshly cooked except the rice. Only the chilli sauce was delicious. Too bad

Really great indonesian food! Very authentic and tastes better than most indonesian restauarants that can be found in South East Asia. Service is fast and friendly too. Highly recommended!

I can’t speak for the authenticity because I’ve never tried Indonesian food before in my life, but it doesn’t mean that the food here is not damn delicious !!! Definitely recommend.

If you’re looking for a heartwarming food, that’s the place to go. The food tastes homemade with a special touch of authenticity. The staff was amazingly friendly and sweet. The selection of food is great. The only point I wish they’d improve a bit is the speed of service, as at some point we were really hungry. Once the food arrived, we forgot about it though. Definitely a place to go regularly though.

The gule tunjang is soft, puollllll, but it's not the typical gule that is medookk, but it cures the feeling of longing for tunjang naspad in front of the house when in Indonesia🤭🤭, the canned crackers are great, the lelel fish is delicious. It's just that the tempeh isn't good anymore.

9/10 - food was simply delicious. We ordered the Nasi Goreng and some other dishes and we're in love. Portions were big enough to kill our hunger and the quality of the food was super nice. Also, the spicy level was supreme❤️ definitely more than what you usually find in blend Europe. Super recommended. 3 people, 3 dishes, 3 drinks for a few cents over 20 euros. And we were full. I'm only taking 1 star because the place was sooo hot inside that was a bit uncomfortable. There were some heaters on and we were sitting right beside them. Can't wait to go back in summer and try it again🥰
