Knossos in Gera

After having been to this restaurant at least 10 times, even driving all the way from Altenburg to Gera, today was definitely my last visit. Twelve people were there to celebrate a milestone birthday. There was no congratulations from the restaurant, no warm welcome. The complimentary salad was uninspired, with little to no dressing. It was simply unappetizing. It could have been omitted. It didn't make a good impression. The appetizer I ordered was handed to another guest at the same table. When the waitress noticed, she took the appetizer away from that guest and placed it, half-eaten, in front of me. It didn't occur to her to order me a new one, nor did she want to. We waited a good 25 minutes for drinks and had to ask three times before juice and Fanta finally arrived. Only the main course was acceptable. Ouzo was served once, right at the beginning. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager, we received an apology and a second round of ouzo. Thank you, but the evening was completely ruined. This restaurant has undoubtedly lost 12 customers forever. Altenburg, Zwickau or even Glauchau can do it better now.

It's my favorite restaurant in Gera. The food tastes good, the staff is always friendly, and I really like the decor.

UPDATE: Visited again yesterday – incredibly delicious food and excellent service – superb food and very friendly service. A very wide selection of high-quality dishes. The price-performance ratio is really good, and the portions are enough to satisfy even very hungry people. The atmosphere is pleasant, and there is ample parking right outside. It's also easily accessible by tram or bus.

This restaurant was recommended to me. However, I won't be recommending it to anyone. We waited almost an hour and a half for our food, even though the side salad and drinks were served quite quickly... Absolutely unacceptable! The restaurant felt like a train station, and I felt almost harassed by the numerous waiters constantly walking past our table, because of the constant commotion and the tables being far too close together. The fact that the food was reasonably good is hardly worth mentioning given the unpleasant atmosphere. You can eat well elsewhere without feeling like you're in a train station. A small suggestion: perhaps fewer tables and waiters who actually work instead of just wandering around aimlessly. I had the feeling that everything was very haphazard and poorly organized. I won't be eating here again and cannot recommend it.

The Greek restaurant is really great, and the food always tastes amazing. The best tzatziki in the area 😁 The only thing that bothers me is the noise when the place is full. Sometimes it's almost like being at a train station... The service is quick, the food and drinks come quickly, and the people are always friendly. There's plenty of parking, too.

True to the motto: Quantity over quality. We had reserved a table for two at 6:00 PM. The line at the entrance already stretched all the way into the hallway – no problem until then. At reception, however, it quickly became apparent that the staff was completely overwhelmed. We were eventually seated in a walkway, so close that our backs were almost touching the person behind us. Our drink order was relatively quick, but the €5 Coke had to be returned because it tasted flat and stale. After about 60 minutes, the appetizer arrived – unfortunately, quite cold. It tasted okay. We were surprised to see that the guests behind us, who had arrived significantly later, had already received their main courses. However, it turned out to be our dishes. The plates sat on their tables for about ten minutes before the waiter took them back, circled the restaurant, and then served them to us. So, about 60 minutes after the starter, we finally got our main course. Our hunger—and, to be honest, our appetite for something delicious Greek—had already vanished. The food was almost cold, and the souvlaki tasted like it had been warmed up and pre-fried. And anyone who thinks you can at least have a good conversation during such a long wait is sadly mistaken: It feels like a train station concourse—loud, hectic, the main thing is to have as many customers as possible. You can barely hear yourself. Other guests, by the way, left without their main course. We had to wait another 20 minutes for the bill before we finally went to the counter to pay.

Two of us went out to eat and were unfortunately very disappointed. We had to wait over an hour for each course to arrive. When we finally asked for the bill, it took another 20 minutes before anyone took care of it – in the end, we went to the waiter ourselves to even pay. What was particularly annoying was that our food was initially delivered to the wrong table. The waiter then took it back and walked all the way around the restaurant before finally bringing it to us – as a result, the food wasn't hot. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't convincing either: The souvlaki was very dry and didn't seem fresh. Overall, a disappointing experience – a shame, as we had been looking forward to a lovely evening.

It's always very crowded and very loud 😔 I won't go back

It was our grandson's birthday and he wanted a round of bowling. We fortified ourselves with some good food beforehand. Then we set off, and we all had a great time. We highly recommend it.

I found this restaurant in Gera through reviews. I can definitely give it 5 stars. A very friendly and well-organized team. A delicious soup starter was served free of charge. The lunch menu was not only plentiful but also very tasty and, above all, reasonably priced. Another great restaurant I discovered in Gera. Free parking directly at the restaurant. I'll be back. We were here with the whole family; we just wanted to go to a Greek restaurant again. The food was excellent, the portions were very generous; we even had to have some packed to take home. The atmosphere is very good, and the service was extremely friendly and attentive. They didn't seem stressed, despite the busy place, and were even available for a little small chat. In short, we all felt very comfortable there. The prices are on the high side, but still moderate, but for this quality, you're happy to pay a little more. I can recommend a visit to everyone, but it's best to book in advance.

Taverna Stressissimo – now with a turbocharged feel thanks to the rip-off joint "Fair Parken"! The food? Okay! The service? Okay too, if a bit grim at times! The atmosphere? Relaxed – if it weren't for the ticking clock on your neck, sponsored by "Fair Parken," the new favorite company of all parking-time fetishists. You'd normally come here to have a leisurely meal, maybe enjoy an ouzo, feel a little like you're on vacation... but no such luck! Now it's time to shovel in your gyros, inhale tzatziki, and call out the bill – it all has to be done in 2.5 hours! Otherwise, you'll be served a €30 fine for dessert – without a receipt, but guaranteed to be unforgettable. To the chef: Please stir, fry, and serve faster. To the guests: No time to talk – chew, swallow, go! To the waiters: Forget the wine list, bring a stopwatch instead. Because anyone who sits here too long will be mercilessly asked to pay – not by the restaurant, but by the parking lot sheriff himself. In conclusion: If you're looking for true Greek serenity, perhaps you should visit a restaurant that doesn't operate alongside a countdown. Or simply go for a jog beforehand to earn those minutes. With that in mind: Kali orexi – but hurry, please!

I've been to many Greek restaurants, but this one really impressed me! We felt welcome from the very first moment. The staff was warm, attentive, and authentically hospitable, as you would expect from Greece. The food was excellent. Everything fit together perfectly, the staff, the ambiance, everything. An absolute recommendation for anyone who loves authentic Greek cuisine and atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

We wanted the appetizer platter for two and the special feta instead of the saganaki, which is almost the same and costs €1 more each, and we would have been willing to pay the extra, but unfortunately, we were immediately told "no" without further question. Very nice restaurant with Greek flair. Large selection on the menu. Staff friendly, quick and attentive. Requests for changes to the dishes are implemented without any problems. I thought it was great that there was an elevator. For me having knee surgery was a huge plus point.

Absolutely recommended! My first visit to Knossos was a complete success. Admittedly, the location in a small commercial area and the external appearance might not give you much to expect at first. But as soon as you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a beautiful, appropriate Greek ambience. Particularly noteworthy is the extremely friendly and attentive staff, who made the stay very pleasant. The prices are a bit higher, but given the excellent quality and the really generous portion sizes, they are absolutely justified. Everything tasted excellent! Unfortunately there are no vegetarian alternatives, hence a star deduction. Another plus point is the existing outdoor area. Since the restaurant is on the first floor, there is a great view. Since Knossos seems to be very popular, a reservation is definitely advisable. Even though I don't eat out in Gera often, Knossos has now secured a permanent place on my list of top restaurants. For me a clear 4.5 stars!

Super tasty, inexpensive, 3 course menu with salad, soup, main course, dessert (lunch), slightly smaller portion of liver but delicious.

The restaurant is very good, the food tastes very good and is very intense in taste. The German dishes on the menu are also very good. I would actually give this restaurant 4.5 stars. The half star is only missing because of the waiting time, which can be attributed to overcrowding. Generally highly recommended!

Women's Day 2025 The food was great. The portions were large, nicely prepared and tasty. The serving staff was friendly and helpful. Due to the noise caused by other guests (“ladies”), conversation at your own table was only possible by shouting. It was really a disaster. These “ladies” (around 20) behaved in an impossible way and the boss tolerated it. People from several tables complained to the staff. The guests in question turned the music really loud (for about 2.5 hours) (staff turned it down, the women turned it loud again and so on...), danced (the staff almost couldn't get through with the plates of food or drinks), shouted, stood on the benches, sang loudly and incorrectly. We sat in the small glass room and were bombarded with uninvited noise. This is a restaurant and not a disco or a club. You want to spend a nice evening, eat well and chat. The boss came after we complained to the staff. He wanted to sugarcoat everything, about the last few years and stuff like that... Bad luck, there were guests at my table for the 4th Women's Day and I was there for the second time, but no one had ever experienced anything like that. He is the boss, he has house rules and is therefore in charge. But no, he lets the guests scare him away. After the conversation, after 5-10 minutes, there was finally silence and you could even hear the quiet Greek background music. We will eat somewhere else next year and think about whether we will eat there again. However, because of the terrible noise.

Very nicely decorated, I felt comfortable. The service is very friendly. The food was VERY tasty. Five stars are not enough.

All in all we really liked it. The portions are very large and it tastes good, the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't like the ambience that much; you feel a bit like you're in a train station, as loud and crowded as it is. Unfortunately we had to wait 2 hours for our food and were a bit disappointed. The salad was barely edible as it was so sour. The main courses are very meat-heavy, but taste good.

The rice was cold and the gyros was dry despite the metaxa sauce. The staff were sometimes only half-involved but generally friendly. Despite complaints and obviously only half eating the portion, I was allowed to pay the full price. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I won't eat there again.

Above all, the friendly service, the very good food and the problem-free parking are positive things to mention here.

After countless visits, we 4 girls still feel comfortable in Knossos. The food is also delicious, the wonderful starter soups and the home-baked bread. I can't understand all the good reviews. The food, especially the gyro meat, was burnt and extremely dry, the mini leg had bone splinters. After the starter (garlic bread), which was far too flabby and saturated with oil, we were forgotten about our main course and when we asked, we always said: I'll send the colleague who is responsible. When you order food that comes in a pan, you quickly notice that everything is blazing hot on the outside and rather cold on the inside... maybe microwave? ... Apart from the enormous noise, we won't go there again... Absolutely no recommendation from us. Have a nice day . .

Unfortunately the food is just average. It's incredibly loud and crowded. The employees seem overwhelmed, which means you have to wait a little longer for some plates. Metaxa sauce is more of a ready-made sauce than homemade and is heavy on the stomach. Fries like at every snack bar. The pan appears to be heated in the microwave, red hot on the outside and lukewarm in the middle. The liver itself is very tender. Unfortunately we didn't like it and we won't be coming back.

As always, perfect food, very friendly and affordable.

My rating: 5☆ The "Knossos" is located in a shopping center at the intersection of Straße des Bergmanns and Dornaer Straße. Parking spaces are sufficient and free of charge. It can be reached on the 1st floor via stairs or elevator. The meal was according to the “lunch menu” on September 28th, 2021 Despite the restaurant being full and without having booked in advance, we were immediately assigned the last free and cleaned table. The service was exemplary for us: fast, attentive and polite. For lunch there was also an Uzo for each guest and a starter soup (!) at no extra charge. We were very satisfied with the main course ("Hellas platter" with rice, "Gyros" with homemade fries, ...). Even a small dessert was served free of charge. As a “Gera visitor”, I recommend this restaurant and will visit it again myself. UPDATE of my 2021 review as follows: As a visitor to Gera, I (or we) discovered that there are changes to the lunch menu. 🤔 The prices for the food have been increased.😳 Ok - like almost everywhere.☹️ But what doesn't work at all (and I personally think it's a negative trend in this location) is the price of beer: 0.5 liters for €5.50❗️...👎. For this reason, myself and my friends have now decided that we will no longer visit this restaurant, as nice as it was in the past (service, friendliness of the staff). Kind regards from me

We were there for dinner yesterday. Unfortunately we didn't like it at all. The rice was unseasoned and totally tasteless. I even think he was almost out of the woods. The meat was slightly oversalted but still edible. The hut was full, the waiters were nice. The wrong drink was delivered... until the problem was resolved, 3 different people came to the table because no one could make a decision. In the end the drink was simply served again even though we had already had it. Unfortunately communication is zero. For us, however, this will be our last visit there.

Have been here for a long time. Food was great, selection was very large, main course averaged 18 euros, but previously there were potato slices, now only rice balls. This is a shame given the price increase, as the portions now seem smaller. If you take the rest with you, you have to pay extra for the packaging. A 0.4 l soft drink 4.90 euros What I found unpleasant is the stress factor of the staff. They're just racing, and that's reflected on the guests. This can also be done more relaxed with a normal step.
