Kleine Tonhalle in Saarbrücken

We, too, were enthusiastic and loyal Tonhalle guests for many years. In recent years, we've noticed a slight decline, which has now escalated to such an extent that we unfortunately have to say: It's a shame, but we're not coming back. Aside from the fact that the service was sometimes downright unfriendly, the absolute highlight for us was the outrageous price increase! We always loved the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, but what was on offer now stunned us: these days, it's only 4 - FOUR - really SMALL mushrooms for a whopping 9 - NINE - euros! What the hell justifies that?? Someone recently wrote here that prices are skyrocketing. They're right. A regular portion of spaghetti cost €13.50 during our visit. Apart from that, the Bolognese sauce – where someone else has also said that it's just a dollop on top —> true – was nothing like it used to be. We also found them to be completely overseasoned. What a shame… And really: as a waitress, you're entitled to show a bit of friendliness. First of all, a greeting would be nice. And coming to the table after just two minutes of arriving to take a drink order might seem quick and convenient to some. But when you notice that guests are still looking at what they want to drink, you can expect a question like, "Are you still looking?", "Should I come back right away?", or something similar (we don't really have to explain their job to anyone here). In our case, the lady just gave us a grim look and turned around without another word and stomped off. … Needless to say, the grim look and rude manner continued throughout our entire visit. So: unfortunately, we were thoroughly disappointed.

The prices are going down like a rocket: - Regular spaghetti €13.50 - Small Spezi €3.00 The restaurant hasn't changed much since Ingo's lifetime. It was always my reason to go there. But now? With those prices? Too bad, that was the last time I went there. :-(

I visited the restaurant and was unfortunately very disappointed. Appetizer (Feta): I was served half a block of feta. It came with bread that was extremely dry and not at all tasty. I find it absolutely outrageous to charge €9 for this dish. Main Course (Bolognese): This was also a huge disappointment. The portion was filled with pasta, but the sauce was only sparsely layered on top. The taste was absolutely unconvincing – my homemade Bolognese at home is worlds better. Conclusion: For the price, I expect significantly higher quality. Neither the appetizer nor the main course were worth the money. I certainly won't visit this restaurant again and can't recommend it to anyone.

Stopped in for a beer. A very cozy pub with a friendly staff. The bartender takes great pride in making customers feel welcome.

Quaint restaurant...as if time had stood still...but very cozy

I love eating at the small Tonhalle. They simply have the best spaghetti there is, I love it!! I always look forward to eating there. However, one small downside is that it's a bit too crowded. They need to move the tables a bit further apart. Sometimes you can't hear the person sitting opposite you... because the other people's conversations are loud and right next to you. Leaving a bit more space between the tables would be perfect! I've been going there for years and have always been very satisfied! :-)

The restaurant simply has history and you get a lot for relatively little money.

We've been going to the Tonhalle on and off for 40 years, as the spaghetti is a cult favorite. After a two-year break, we were back. The place was empty except for one table, which was unusual for us. The female waitress gave us a dark look, and the male waitress missed the wastebasket when she threw the gum out, and it landed in the dining room. The vegetarian spaghetti was made with frozen vegetables. Dear Tonhalle, we bid you farewell.

Unfortunately, disappointing. We ate in the courtyard. The first thing you see: a smoke-filled ashtray, a dirty corner. The egg whites of the fried eggs were undercooked and runny. Salt and pepper... nothing.

A lovely little restaurant with a nostalgic atmosphere. The spaghetti was well-portioned, but there was hardly any sauce and little flavor. The food was bland, lacking in flavor.

On the second day of our vacation, we were looking for a place to eat. We found one at the Restaurant Kl. Tonhalle. A rustic restaurant with a beer garden, a five-minute walk from the town center, where we even got a table. Our food was delicious and good; everything was fresh and delicious. With a good bottle of red wine, it was all for a reasonable price: €65. We can only recommend it wholeheartedly. The spaghetti Bolognese with melted cheese, which the staff said is a traditional dish from the 70s, was particularly delicious. The fact that they offer three different sizes is also impressive. We'd be happy to come back. Top-notch.

Unfortunately the beer selection leaves a lot to be desired. Bitburger is out of the question.

Relaxed, middle-class restaurant with nice music and good food.

The “steak” feels like it’s 3mm thick and is just a disgrace for this extraterrestrial price! The FRIED potatoes came out of the deep fryer and this says it all… I am absolutely disappointed/horrified!!! And the waiting time for a salad of an hour is really annoying. The table had already been cleared even though not everyone had finished eating and that is absolutely not polite. You feel compelled to leave the restaurant as quickly as possible in order to lure more guests into a trap. Thanks, but never again!

Sehr uriges Restaurant. Die Spezialität ist Spaghetti Bolognese in verschiedenen Größen. Ich hatte die "Kämpfer" Portion, war aber zu meistern.😃

Spaghetti mit viel billigem Käse - ein Löffel Parmesan oder Pecorino haette für ein ordentliches Essen gesorgt. Die Kellnerin unmoeglch. Ostblock pur. Man fühlt sich nicht als Gast.

I was there with work colleagues. The reputation of the Tonhalle is very well known in Saarbrücken, especially for its pasta. There are different sized portions and you have to be really hungry to eat them. That evening I ate pork steak (2 slices) with pepper sauce, fries and salad and I have to say it tasted great, although there could have been more fries. The others also enjoyed everything (e.g. vegetarian pizza, Merguez salad, Lyonnaise salad, pork fillet, apple strudel). You can always choose side dishes such as fries, fried potatoes, etc. with the dishes. The location is quite dark and simple, but that also has its charm. The prices are all moderate, I think the most expensive thing I remember was the pork fillet at 19.60). What you should definitely do is reserve a table. I, or we, will be happy to come back. The waitress was alone and had a lot to do, so everything took a little longer, but she was always very friendly. There was also a waitress at the counter.

A really nice, small restaurant with inexpensive but still very, very good food. The spaghetti in particular is an absolute tradition here and always good. The service is just as good as the ambience. And there's a reason the place is almost never empty when you arrive. Absolute recommendation!

Table reserved for 12 people, but only 9 seats! “Growing” wasn’t possible, we should just move together! It took 1 hour until the next room was at a pleasant temperature (probably not heated before), not a single vegan dish (a no go these days), service was very inflexible and not very friendly, we always had to wait a long time to get drinks order. Frozen vegetables in the pasta, canned mushrooms in the sauce. Quality is different! Very disappointed!

The spaghetti is very tasty and the portions are huge

A famous, former doctoral colleague, who now lives in exile in Saarbrücken, had received the small Tonhalle as an insider tip from a non-doctoral former student from Saarbrücken and because the upcoming Christmas party is taking place in the ex-student's other insider tip, we are then in the Tonhalle landed, but without the current colleague with a doctorate, who had to go back into exile in Swabia from Saarbrücken because he had an important "appointment". Women just 😘😂.

I've heard a lot of good things about the place. To be honest, I wasn't entirely thrilled. What I found most annoying was that the pork fillet came first and the croquettes about 5 minutes later. I expected it to be different from a restaurant with this experience

A beautiful, quaint and rustic restaurant, you feel like you've been transported back in time and that's exactly what I love. The Spaghetti Tonhalle is simply delicious.

Good, inexpensive pasta dishes in the truest sense of the word. Not top-notch dining, but a quiet, cozy location with friendly staff and good basic pasta dishes. There are also small starters and salads, and pork fillet is also on the menu, but I've never tried it there. I think it should be solid too. Most people probably come because of the pasta, which doesn't skimp on the cheese, and the fighter's portion is quite an announcement. You have to be hungry!

Ich bin ein großer Fan der Tonhalle, bin hier seit 40 jahren immer mal. Spaghetti wie zu Ingos Zeit haben sich etwas verändert. Dennoch mögen wir die Spaghetti hier weiterhin. Der Service ist sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend, unaufdringlich und flott. Die Spaghetti schmeckten leider diesmal etwas fad, wir würzten also ordentlich mit Pfeffer nach. Was uns sehr störte, war die laute völlig unpassende Musik, um ein Abendessen mit Unterhaltung genießen zu können. Dementsprechend müssen die Gäste gegen die Lautstärke 'ankämpfen ' was die ganze Atmosphäre natürlich noch ungemütlichmer macht. Bleibt zu wünschen, daß das nicht die Regel wird.

The “Kleine Tonhalle” has been around for decades. The restaurant is inconspicuous. Large portions of spaghetti Bolognese with lots of cheese used to be offered - still on the menu today! The food is fresh. The service is friendly. The ambience has a cozy patina. The prices are moderate.

A nice little restaurant with a nostalgic atmosphere. The spaghetti was well portioned, but there was hardly any sauce and little taste. Unfortunately the carbonara was curdled and very tasteless. It's a shame I would have expected more.

Service accepts 0 friendly criticism. Add salt to the Bolognese sauce. It's a real shame, I've known the Tonhalle for 33 years. Always well attended but perhaps the massive profits go to the owners' heads. Super disappointed.

The Tonhalle is usually known for its spaghetti 🍝 Bolognese. Personally, this was way too watery for me. The Bolognese really didn't stick and there were mushrooms in the sauce, which I'm not familiar with. I had to spoon the sauce at the end but the taste was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The pork fillet with cream sauce and fries is really recommended! :-)

It feels like the same spaghetti for 30 years. Which is a good thing, because they're delicious (you should like a lot of cheese). Student bar atmosphere, dark. Reservations make sense, it is well attended.

Das Lokal ist einfach, aber gemütlich; die Bedienung nett, und dass Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis bei den sehr leckeren Spaghetti Bolognese unschlagbar... im wieder gerne.

Ich kenne die Kleine Tonhalle schon aus den Zeiten, als Ingo noch der Wirt war. Danach gab es für mich, da ich nicht mehr im Saarland lebte, eine längere Pause. Inzwischen bin ich gelegentlich wieder in Saarbrücken, und als ich mal las, daß Ingos Spaghettisoßenrezept restauriert worden sei, probierte ich es vor ein paar Jahren aus. Ich gebe zu, ich weiß nicht mehr, wie die Soße vor rd. 40 Jahren geschmeckt hat, aber ich war so zufrieden, dass ich danach immer mal wieder hinging. Bis vor ein paar Tagen. Wir waren zu zweit und sind uns einig, dass diesmal eine völlig andere Soße auf dem Teller war. Hackfleisch musste man suchen, es gab reichlich Flüssigkeit, wenig Geschmack und es gab undefinierbare „Würfel“ darin. Die Portion war so groß wie immer, es gab reichlich Käse und für 10,50€ wurden wir dick satt. Aber so eine schlechte Soße müssen wir uns kein zweites Mal antun. Schade, sehr, sehr schade!

Quaint restaurant with delicious spaghetti Bolognese. Servings in 3 versions. Beginner, Normal and Fighter. The right one for everyone. Will come back.

Very disappointing. Service is a catastrophe, extremely long waiting times, food brought to you upon request. Are totally overwhelmed. If you like ambience and cozy food, this is the wrong place. Prices are ok, but also at the upper limit for this quality. I won’t “get lost” here again

The food is really great. I've already tried a few dishes and everything tasted delicious. You have to try the Schnitzel Diavolo. The service is attentive and the food comes to the table quickly. It's always Full House here... a quaint pub. Gladly again.

Am disappointed. There was hardly any sauce left on the pasta and it was watered down too. When we asked, we didn't get any sauce for free. We would have to pay 2.50 for it. The sauce doesn't really taste good anymore. The noodles were cooked too long and were swollen. A bottle of Teinacher Sprudel (0.7L) costs 6.00 euros. The side salad was good. But otherwise it's no longer the taste of the good old Tonhalle. Now it's all about profit. What a shame.

Wonderful! Eating here again for the first time in 30 years - and (almost) nothing has changed! Good cuisine, nice, quick service, rustic atmosphere. And then of course THE spaghetti, like in the old days. For people who don't have a problem with loud all-round volume, the Tonhalle is a must every now and then!

I had dinner there with my mother last night. We ordered food at 6:10 p.m. and had to wait an hour for the food to arrive. We asked the service where our food was? The service told us that it would come soon, we waited another 10 minutes and then the food could be served!!!!! (I worked in the catering industry for 11 years in my old job, it was quicker when an order came in the kitchen came, it would be read out and then immediately carried out when the starter came to the guest. From the kitchen the food would be made in that time when the starter came back from the guest. Then the food went straight to the guest (the service was a catastrophe and the... Kitchen was too slow and the processes have to be better and the service too!!!!!! (other guests had their food beforehand) I will only come back when the service and the kitchen are better and the processes have improved!! !!!(as I said, it was a disaster last night) I hope it gets better!!!!

I've been visiting (Ingo's) Kleine Tonhalle since the 90s. To be honest, less common in recent years, but today we were there again. half past six, the store is packed and the spaghetti comes early. We reminisced because it felt like nothing had changed. And the fighter also fights with extra cheese.

Was in the Tonhalle for the first time, in this case with a larger group. Unfortunately, the staff was a bit overwhelmed - especially waiting for food is no longer fun after over an hour. But the food was solid. Maybe I'll test it a second time.

Great, rustic restaurant where you immediately feel at home. Large selection of dishes at fair prices, decent portions and friendly staff. We liked it.

The location is cozy, a small but nice atmosphere. The food is excellent as well as the prices. The portions are completely humane, except for the fighter portions. The service was very friendly and constantly looked after us. What I would like to complain about is, on the one hand, personally, namely the volume in a full restaurant (not overcrowded). Entertainment is then almost only possible with lip reading. But what really needs to be criticized is the lighting conditions. I can now only comment on the small room where we sat: painted light bulbs in an opaque lampshade. New warm light bulbs are definitely needed here. Even though it looks romantic in the candlelight, it's a bit too tiring for the eyes. Just test it out. All in all, a good and recommendable restaurant.

There's spaghetti in every size here. That's the good news😊 Originally a student bar...but now the students are already retired. The furnishings are from back then.😏

Unfortunately there was no food and there won't be any more. Rarely have I experienced something so unfriendly on the phone. You would have lost your appetite even if there had been a free table!!

When I asked if the salad dressing was homemade, I got the answer of course, we do everything ourselves here..... Yes, unfortunately that's a lie, the dressing on my salad was clearly tastier from the "bucket"! When we paid we commented that the dressing wasn't homemade and that we had noticed that. There was no reaction at all, just a grin. Super cheeky and problematic if you have allergies And.... Women are the last to be served here, the man gets everything put down and cleared away first

Die "Kleine Tonhalle" ist seit Jahrzehnten DAS In-Lokal in der Landeshauptstadt Saarbrücken. Die Speisen sind sehr gut, auch wenn es kein Spitzenrestaurant mit Sternen, sondern eher ein Szenelokal ist. Besonders zu empfehlen sind die Spaghetti mit Bolognese-Soße und VIEL frischem Emmentaler. Es gibt sie in der normalen, der Anfänger- und der Kämpfer-Portion. Man kann hier auch sehr gut mit Kindern hingehen.

Spaghetti hui - Tiramisu pfui. Hier ist wirklich ein wenig die Zeit stehen geblieben. Eine Zeitreise zurück vor ca. 20 Jahren als ich das letzte Mal hier war. Und immer noch alles urig und freundlich. Die Spaghetti schmecken super und Preis-Leistung stimmt. LEIDER haben wir als Nachspeise dann noch Tiramisu bestellt und das ging wirklich gar nicht. Nach 1,5 Löffeln stehen gelassen... keine Ahnung wer das verbrochen hatte, es war nich wirklich kalt, sehr wässrig und mit einem unangenehmen Beigeschmack. Die Bedienung hat nur die Schultern gezuckt und bezahlt haben wir es natürlich trotzdem. Kleine Schüssel mit 6,50 Euro unverhältnismäßig teuer im Verhältnis zu der risigen Portion leckerer Nudeln für 10 Euro (normale Portion = schon ziemlich viel). Also mal besser auf die Hauptgerichte konzentrieren. Besuch ist trotzdem sehr zu empfehlen.

Wir waren vor kurzem dort Angeblich soll es die besten Nudeln geben Vom Geschmack her ist es ok aber man hat das Gefühl in einer Kneipe zu sein Die Preise sind hoch und leider auch keine Fischgerichte auf der Karte Fazit man kann hingehen aber was besonderes ist es nicht Und die Nudeln schmecken bei jedem Italiener besser

Übersichtliche aber vielseitige Karte. Für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Schöner Kneipencharakter. Kann man öfters hin, auch einfach so.

The Kleine Tonhalle has been and will forever remain a cherished place to dine and to enjoy life with friends. Spaghetti is its specialty, and they do it exceptionally well.
