A real Frankfurt original! We had the famous Handkäs' with music as a starter - spicy, perfectly seasoned and exactly how you want it. Afterwards there was bratwurst with sauerkraut and puree - classic, hearty and excellently prepared. We also enjoyed a Pinot Blanc that went wonderfully with it. The service was great – attentive, friendly and with a lot of heart for Frankfurt hospitality. The rustic atmosphere makes the Kanonesteppel a real must for lovers of traditional cuisine. I sat down inside the plastic tent. I think non-smokers should avoid it. The food was reasonably good, but four people at the table next to me were taking turns chain-smoking, so I couldn't tell if they were eating schnitzel or chewing tobacco. The tent wasn't well ventilated, so the smell got all over our clothes and bags. In fact, it was there from before we ordered until we finished eating and left. Of course, I know that smoking is allowed in the seats, but I am leaving this review for the benefit of non-smokers. It seems like a good idea to create a separate smoking area. Ich habe einen Platz in einem Zelt genommen, aber Nichtraucher sollten es besser vermeiden. Das Essen war ganz in Ordnung, aber am Nachbartisch haben vier Personen ununterbrochen eine Zigarette nach der anderen geraucht, sodass ich nicht wusste, ob ich ein Schnitzel esse oder eine Zigarette kaue. 😅 Da das Zelt schlecht belüftet war, haben meine Kleidung und meine Tasche den Rauchgeruch komplett aufgenommen. Sie haben wirklich von dem Moment an, als wir bestellt haben, bis wir gegangen sind, durchgehend geraucht. Natürlich weiß ich, dass es ein Raucherbereich ist, aber ich hinterlasse diese Rezension für Nichtraucher, die es vielleicht wissen möchten. Ein separater Bereich für Raucher wäre wirklich sinnvoll.

Rustic traditional cider pub with the best schnitzels. My favorite is the Frankfurter Schnitzel with delicious green sauce and fried potatoes. The cider also tastes good and the service is quick and competent. Always beautiful!

Here you will find a Frankfurt restaurant where you can meet many "old" Frankfurters. You will see and experience that there is no “fear of contact”. The food, no matter what, is plentiful and always tastes delicious. There is no beer here because it is purely an Äppelwoi economy.

The knuckle felt like it wasn't cooked through, even though it was very well baked on the outside. Unfortunately the cutlery wasn't suitable for cutting the crust. The atmosphere is, let's say, rustic. You can do it, but there are many comparable locations in Frankfurt.

Visité a mis amigos en Frankfurt y estando en Alemania sabía que conseguiría un Wiener Schnitzel vom Kalb. Mi amiga preguntó en Kanonesteppel y confirmaron que lo hacen así que reservó una mesa para el sábado por la noche. Siendo principios de diciembre el lugar estaba lleno de un ambiente animado, pero el servicio era excelente, solo igualado por la calidad de la comida. Fuimos bien atendidos por la encantadora Susann y ella manejó el grupo bastante ruidoso de chicos en su mayoría y un par de chicas con facilidad. Cuando llegaron ya estaban tipy y uno de los chicos más que los demás así que se lució. Mis amigos ya me han invitado de nuevo y espero que hagamos una visita a Kanonesteppel y esperemos ver a la muy eficiente Susann de nuevo. Bis dann.

An authentic apple wine bar in Frankfurt Sachsenhausen. Time has almost stood still, the menu is classic. You sit on benches, possibly with others. Prices moderate, food very tasty. Not for chic Micki. Few tourists, many regular guests.

Traditional German food place, we tried the knuckle and the cider, everything was spectacular. The portions were substantial. The entrance is amazing, with small glass spaces for large groups. We will return for sure!!

Empfehlenswert Ich hatte das Vergnügen, kürzlich in einem hervorragenden Restaurant in Frankfurt zu speisen, das sich auf deutsche Küche spezialisiert hat. Von dem Moment an, als ich das Restaurant betrat, wurde ich von der netten und freundlichen Bedienung herzlich empfangen. Das Essen war einfach fantastisch! Besonders empfehlenswert sind die traditionellen deutschen Spezialitäten. Ich kann dieses Restaurant nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Food was good, except that the portions were different sizes 🤷‍♂️

It is probably recommended for people who love crowds. It was too crowded, too loud for us and what we wanted wasn't there anymore. My knuckle was too dry, the fried potatoes were delicious. Previously there was a salad that was a bit too salty. My drink wasn't available either and for a mezzo we received a bottle of Fanta and a bottle of Cola and had to mix it ourselves. All in all, I probably would have gone myself. But my companion wanted to stay.

We had a bit of bad luck in the evening because a very loud, VERY drunk group was sitting next to us (very beyond the normal I'm-just-drunk-and-a bit loud), but overall it's really great here, food is great, Great value for money, service really extremely friendly.

Wir waren hier mit Freunden und 2 yorkies. Die Bedienung war extrem freundlich. Die zwei Hunde wurden herzlich aufgenommen. Selten oder eigentlich noch nie, haben wir uns so wohl gefühlt . Das Essen kam schnell und war super lecker.. hier kommen wir wieder hin. Nochmal ein Danke an die super netten Mädels!!!!!!!!

Ich war seit längerer Zeit mal wieder in Frankfurt und wollte unbedingt eine alteingesessene Äppelwoi Wirtschaft besuchen. Gibt es im Norden ja nicht. Labskaus ist so gar nicht meine Welt. Aber das sei nur am Rande erwähnt. Ich liebe den Geruch von Rippchen mit Kraut. Die Wirtschaft ist groß und geräumig- damit also auch bestens für größere Gesellschaften geeignet- und dennoch sehr gemütlich- und existiert seit 116 Jahren. Einfach nur "urig". Wir wurden extrem freundlich begrüßt und bewirtet. Als "Vorspeise" gab es einen Traum von einem Handkäs'. Besser geht es nicht. Zum anschließenden Rippchen mit Kraut muß ich nicht viel schreiben: Fabelfaft wars. An dieser Stelle seien auch viele Grüße an Benny ausgerichtet, mit dem ich auf dem Innenhof kurz babbeln konnte ("schnacken", damit es die Norddeutschen verstehen). Wenn Apfelwein & Essen, dann Kanonesteppel! Fazit: Ganz klare Empfehlung von mir (10 von 5 Sternchen).

Back here after about 22 years. And it was just as beautiful. Super nice service, nice conversations with the people sitting next to you. And finally Handkäs and Äppelwoi again.

The place is good, the food, although we took advice, we did not like it, although perhaps we chose wrong (we have been here for a week and we have eaten much better). But the service was horrible, to begin with, they treated us with contempt, we only spoke Spanish and English and the waitresses didn't even speak English. They went from us to the level of having to go get the cutlery and plates, apart from the beers and apple wine, we asked for water and 5 glasses for water and they only brought 3 glasses, after asking for the 2 glasses that They were missing 5 times we continued without them. We didn't drink the water and they wanted to charge us for it. In short, horrible service. I don't understand that they put the plates and cutlery for the boys who shared a table with us and they will pass us by. Summary not to return

Exactly the place you want to be when you’re visiting Frankfurt in the early fall. The apfelwein here is an absolute hit. Highly recommend. Goes nicely with the schnitzel & green sauce

Unfortunately, our visit to Kanonesteppel was quite a disappointment. Reserved 14 days in advance with the wish “outside in good weather”. We were placed inside. Nothing would be free outside. Others probably had more important reservations. At times the noise inside was so loud that it was really tiring to have a conversation. There is no beer on tap here. Only yeast wheat beer from the bottle. Cola and Fanta in mini bottles. Äppler is good. Medlar is more juice than Calvados and is also cheaper. The service forgot about us at times, so we sometimes sat there with empty glasses. The fried potatoes are very photogenic, but in the end they come out of the deep fryer and are not particularly crispy. The knuckle was in the oven too short. The meat is very firm, the crust is mostly soft. But the portion is very large. The carrot salad was forgotten in one of 8 salad bowls. You can only pay in cash. Unfortunately we won't be coming back... Sorry but that was nothing

Delicious food and drink. Fast service and reasonable prices

The Kanonesteppel offers a good selection of Frankfurt specialties. Unfortunately, the service leaves a lot to be desired, especially when there is a lot of traffic. However, the atmosphere is cozy.

Even though it was very full and we didn't have a reservation, the waitress found a place for us immediately and easily. Nice ambience in the backyard with shady trees, 2 warm blankets on each chair to sit softly or snuggle up in! The drinks came quickly, the food - simple and absolutely delicious - came soon after. Rarely have I had such a tender beef liver with fried potatoes, and a compliment for the salad. Our waitress was careful, attentive and quick, very pleasant. And the cider was fresh and tasty. The only drawback is that there are no separate areas for smokers and non-smokers. All in all, a lovely evening that we will definitely repeat.

Basically a nice location. However, the staff sometimes takes a lot of time to bring the drinks you ordered (to the point of saying “oh, I guess I forgot”) 😉

Rustic and authentic. Casual and welcome. So we - a group of 14 people - spent a great evening and immediately felt at home in the beautiful courtyard under the plane tree. The drinks are on the table in no time, along with Frankfurt cuisine the way you like it. Everyone was thrilled and we will recommend you.

The green sauce was great, but schnitzel was deep fried and had a lot of oil on it, also was a little hard to cut and chew. Potatoes were also not Bratkartoffeln, but deep fried and were not the best. We also didn’t see anywhere that card payments are not possible, so we had to go to the atm in order to pay. It’s 2024 - hows that even possible? The place itself has a lovely terrace and the service was fast.

The food was really great, if you want to try some of the Frankfurt classics you've come to the right place. It was generally a bit noisy because it was full, but it was interesting that you were sitting in a backyard like that. However, you can only pay in cash there.

Great cozy atmosphere. The waitresses, especially Lea, are excellent. Courteous, attentive, wonderfully refreshing. All in all a feel-good evening in the cozy backyard. Highly recommended if you want the “normal” Frankfurter kiisch :)

Kanonesteppel is een van de vele apfelwein restaurants in de wijk Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt. Het was druk in de wijk en hier vonden we nog een plekje op het terras. De medewerkers renden letterlijk hun benen onder het lijf uit maar bleven desondanks vriendelijk. We namen natuurlijk een kan appelwijn en een fles sprudelwasser om te mixen en dat smaakte verrassend lekker. We probeerden ook de groene saus en ook dat was lekker. De schnitzels , bakvis en schweinehaxe smaakte ons goed. De prijzen zijn relatief laag. Al met al een geslaagde avond.

Once we arrived the waitress ignored us for quite a white. At the end the price we had to pay was higher than what was shown in the menu. Last but not least, the card was not accepted.

Hey... I expected a little more from Sachsenhausen than it ended up being. Here you can only pay in cash. Unfortunately, this only becomes apparent when the billing suddenly occurs at 10:30 p.m. All guests must be outside by 10:45 p.m. Food was delicious and the cider is excellent.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food as we only had something to drink there. But I will do this again. I like the atmosphere in a backyard and you don't get the noise of the big city. The service was good and very quick.

Zuerst das Positive. Wir bekamen für 4 Leute kurzfristig einen Tisch. Der Service war sehr freundlich und flott. Wirklich super. Getränke auch gut. Einmal war der Wein zu warm, wurde sofort ausgetauscht. Zum Essen: 2 mal Leber, 1x Pilzragout mit Knödel, 1x Jägerschnitzel. Die Rinderleber hat geschmeckt. Bisschen zu durch, aber schmackhaft. Pilzragout auch gut. So nun zu den Bratkartoffeln. Waren gar keine, sondern frittiette Kartoffelscheiben. Das Schnitzel kam meines Erachtens auch aus der Fritteuse. Kartoffelpürree war furchtbar. Schmeckte wie mit Wasser gemacht. Keinen Milch, oder Buttergeschmack. Nur jede Menge Muskat. Echt schade bei diesem Personal und dem Idyllischen Hof des Lokals.

Wir hatten für 6 Personen einen Tisch draußen reserviert. Meine Familie war extra aus dem Ausland angereist und wollte gerne in ein traditionelles Frankfurter Restaurant gehen. Als wir ankamen, sagten sie uns, dass unser Tisch drinnen reserviert sei, obwohl ich explizit bei der Reservierung einen Tisch draußen gebucht hatte (wir hatten 30 Grad). Auf meine Anmerkungen, dass doch draußen noch 2 Tische frei seien, hieß es nur "die sind reserviert" - aber wir hatten ja ebenfalls draußen reserviert, der Fehler lag also nicht bei uns. Man sagte uns, wenn wir uns an einen freien Tisch setzten würden, würde man uns nicht bedienen. Unglaublich!! Ich bin Frankfurterin und immer gerne ins Kanonesteppel gegangen, aber so eine Unverschämtheit kann man sich nicht bieten lassen. Uns habt ihr leider als Gäste für immer verloren und wir werden es allen weitererzählen, die es hören wollen...

Authentic Äpplwoi inn, especially when the weather is nice you can sit in the courtyard if you reserve in advance.
