Friday evening, Sachsenhausen, most of the usual restaurants serving local cuisine were full. A quick Google search and solution: Kanonesteppel. Search complete, the Frankfurt-style pork schnitzel was excellent and juicy. The portions were generous enough to satisfy even a man. The Handkäs mit Musik (a type of cheese with onions and caraway seeds) could have come with a second slice of bread. A complimentary medlar for the wait was a very nice touch. The lady who looked after our group did a great job, always making sure we didn't have to wait. When it's busy, it's busy. Good for business. All in all, for five of us, just under €200 and change – perfectly reasonable.

It was delicious, as always. Typical Frankfurt dishes and apple wine.

One of the last good Ebbelwoi restaurants in Frankfurt that hasn't been overrun by tourists and prioritized quantity over quality. If you also get Moni as your server, you'll get the best value for your money in an Ebbelwoi restaurant.

A very appealing, traditional cider tavern where my parents and grandparents were frequent guests in their youth. The charming courtyard, which offers a pleasant and almost romantic atmosphere, is particularly noteworthy. The cider and dishes were of high quality, and the service was friendly and attentive. A definite recommendation for lovers of regional cuisine and authentic Frankfurt hospitality.

If I could give 0 stars for the service and atmosphere I’d do it, honestly if you’re searching for a nice place to try some good local food, go elsewhere, there’s plenty of nicer places in the area. We arrived there for lunch with our two kids and were welcomed in, in the most friendly way only to then start yelling at us and our children once we had started ordering. We even ended up going outside with the kids whilst just one of us was eating alone and they ran after us as soon as any of them dared to touch a leaf on the ground. I was so shocked, it was very clear they only have accepted us in to take our cash but as soon as they brought our food they told us to leave because the children were disruptive, I’ve never seen such horrible behaviour in any restaurant, they clearly saw us when we came into the restaurant, they should have just told us that it’s not a suitable place for kids and we would have gone elsewhere, it was very clear they just wanted to take advantage. I also think that it’s kind of dodgy that it’s cash only, it’s 2025 and prices are not exactly cheap there. If you want to enjoy your meal and have a good time I strongly recommend to go somewhere else.

A lovely, traditional cider pub with excellent cider and food. The courtyard is beautiful, almost romantic. The cider and food were delicious, and the service was superb: even on an Eintracht Frankfurt Champions League night, the two of us were able to get a table without a reservation. Despite the large crowd, the waitresses were friendly and welcoming. A definite recommendation for Sachsenhausen!

Nice, rustic Hessian pub with decent, home-style food.

Really friendly service and looked after a solo English speaker. You’re sat on communal tables which really adds to the atmosphere. The schnitzel is flavoursome and crispy, and I can recommend the Frankfurt variation with the green sauce. For those having never had apple wine it’s a must, much like a cider but without anywhere near as much sugar (which isn’t a negative, just different). You’ll be well looked after and very well fed. Just note it’s cash only!

Good food, apple wine, great ambiance with a buzz. Strangely enough, it was cash only terms and I couldn't pay with a card which was a let down as it cleared out my wallet.

Very nice ambiance and the certain feel of a pub (long benches, long tables). It's easy to strike up a conversation, and the food is excellent (only the Königsberger Klops was a bit small in portion size compared to the other dishes).

A rustic, traditional apple cider tavern near Alt-Sachsenhausen. Its courtyard is on Textorstraße. Fast and good service, a daily special, and indoor and outdoor seating are available. Delicious food. The decor is rather simple and tailored to the clientele. Overall, highly recommended.

On the last day of my trip, I searched for a good schnitzel restaurant and found one. It was a typical local place. I enjoyed the mushroom soup on top of the schnitzel. I recommend this local restaurant. Try some delicious schnitzel among Germans. Only cash is accepted. Don't panic, just bring cash.

A great, typical Frankfurt restaurant. The food and apple wine are excellent, and the prices are absolutely reasonable. Only the ambiance (very cramped, very loud, uncomfortable seating) and the service leave something to be desired. We were perceived as a nuisance; every time someone came to our table, it seemed like an unnecessary effort that they would rather avoid. It's a shame, but still worth a visit!

Beautiful and rustic apple wine garden

Very good, friendly, and fast service. We sat comfortably in the courtyard under the maple tree. The food was absolutely fantastic! Liver dumplings, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, black pudding, and liver sausage—my favorite in Sachsenhausen so far! The sparkling Bembel (a traditional German beer) was very tasty. We spontaneously got a seat for two on Saturday, August 2, 2025, around 7:00 PM.

It was supposed to be chicken. I didn't recognize it. The side of fries wasn't much better either.

I liked this restaurant a lot, the food was excellent, we ordered schnitzel and schweinhaxe, as well as the frankfurter eggs and potatoes in green sauce, all delicious, even the potatoes were so good! Service was a bit slow, but there were lots of people, so it was expected. Do recommend it for real german food.

Requests are fulfilled as far as possible within the existing offerings. Reserving a table is recommended, especially if you're traveling with several people. Drinking a glass of Äppler and leaving everyday life behind – that's what it's like when you walk through the gate into the courtyard of the Kanonesteppel and choose a nice, shady spot. No traffic noise. Just a fun atmosphere, cold drinks, and friendly, prompt service all around.

Beautiful courtyard, but the menu and the food were absolutely disappointing. The only beer they serve is Erdinger Hefeweizen, nothing else. They've already run out of spaetzle. The potato pancakes were three small, thin frozen ones from the supermarket plus a side salad, which isn't filling at all, and all for a whopping €15. It's simply outrageous for something that isn't even homemade. If you really only want to drink apple wine, then this place might be fine for one evening, but I won't be going back.

Nice apple wine restaurant in Sachsenhausen with a lovely courtyard. The food is delicious, but the portions weren't that big, at least for us. One star deducted because there's no card payment option.

The middle of the three apple wine restaurants on "the island" on Textorstraße. The seating is pleasant in the courtyard under the trees, in our case under the awning when it's raining. The large table was reserved when we arrived at 12:30 p.m., but the waitress explained that guests would arrive later and that we could sit in the corner. At lunchtime, a few regulars were seen taking advantage of "today's inflation special," which refers to a cheap lunch offer with smaller portions. It was from this very "herring inflation special" (which I recognized from the handwriting 😊 😊 😊) that I ate the Königsberger Klops with a wonderfully successful caper cream sauce, with no shortage of unripe flower buds. My companions were very pleased with the handkäs mit Musik (music cheese), turkey gyros, and green sauce with eggs. It wasn't busy on this slightly rainy, humid afternoon. Therefore, the staff, who often stood together and chatted, were certainly attentive to our needs. A lovely old Frankfurt restaurant (since 1906), which I enjoy visiting every now and then.
