Kainz Restaurant in Schwangau

The owner is friendly and humorous, and the chicken is truly exceptional. The mushroom soup served as an appetizer was heavenly. The yogurt dessert was also a wonderful palate cleanser. It perfectly suited the Korean palate. I hope tourists visiting here won't miss out on this delicious experience.

We stopped here for a quick snack before continuing on to Neuschwanstein Castle. A lovely restaurant/café with a rustic ambiance and a welcoming atmosphere, which we really enjoyed. We girls were craving warm apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) and we weren't disappointed. Our server was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our order. It was a shame that the seating on the terrace wasn't available due to the weather; we would have loved to linger there a bit longer. But we felt comfortable and satisfied inside the restaurant. Best regards to the entire team.

We had Spicy Wurst, gravy potatoes with rosemary, Cheese Wurst, & Sauerkraut. Sausages and sauces were delicious and we heated up after our walk down from neuschwanstein castle. It was cold outside but great warmth and food inside.

One of the best meals we had here. The Beet root bun vegetarian burger was amazing. Also the kartoffel dumplings.

I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, and I found the meat very odd. It was probably swapped for a vegan substitute?! The prices are okay for the location, but the quality isn't top-notch. The service could be nicer. The waitresses seemed annoyed and uninspired. Perhaps it's due to the working conditions.

Lunch on October 5, 2025 Every dish was delicious, especially the dessert.

After getting off the car, I replenished my energy at the foot of the mountain. The environment is comfortable, the bathroom is super large, there is wifi, and the waiters are friendly. It's pretty good.

The most delicious part of the meal was the beer and lemonade. It was served very quickly, but the quality of the food was very poor. The pork knuckle was so tough, burnt, and fatty that eating it felt like fighting a wild boar. The fries were so hard that if you're expecting to eat them without pain with braces, you'll unfortunately leave hungry. The simpler the food you order here, the happier you'll be, because the chicken was quite okay. In the heart of Bavaria, I probably ate the worst quality dish this place is famous for. But the price was like a top-tier restaurant.

The Café Kainz restaurant is always worth a visit! The food is excellent, the atmosphere both stylish and cozy. The service is attentive and friendly – ​​you simply feel welcome :)

Having lunch on the terrace at Kainz feels like eating straight out of a fairy tale, the view of Neuschwanstein Castle rising above the trees is unforgettable. The food leans Bavarian, with Weißwurst, pretzels, Obatzda, and other hearty dishes alongside lighter bites and snacks. It’s the kind of place where onion rings and elderflower soda can sit happily next to traditional plates. Service is quick given the busy crowds, but the real star is pairing regional flavors with one of the most iconic views in Germany. A perfect pause before or after exploring the castles.

We had two delicious Kaiserschmarrn pancakes with apple sauce, flaked almonds, and lightly caramelized sugar. 😋 And two coffees. The service was very friendly and fun. Wonderful. Thank you for the nice place to stop.

A very good restaurant right next to the parking lot, from which you can walk up to the castle. The food was good, the service very friendly, and the atmosphere cozy. It was also very child-friendly! We went there with our son and had a great time. Highly recommended! :)

We enjoyed the white sausage which was nicely flavored and not too salty. The chicken breast schnitzel was moist and thin, with a nice crumb. The server was entertaining and a bit of a jokester.

Really reasonable for vacation prices and filling before a castle tour

Friendly service, good food, reasonably priced, and quick.

Like other one start reviews. The male server was rude, he threw the beer glass on the table while deliever to us and the beer was spelled. He handled tea cups roughly which was very unprofessional. The another woman server came around, and asked us to pass down the dishes ourselves. We never receive such a service crossed Germony and Switzerland. It is surprising to me that the reasons for the one start rating had appeared over 3 years and the "owner/management's" respond was the same and asked custermers to report to the manager while we are in the restaurant. We won't dare to do so, 1. If you have your waiter or waitress wear their name tags, then It will be easier for us to report them and they will know that they are responsible for their service. 2. We were afraid that we might receive retaliation while we are eating at the restaurant. I hope you are sincerely making changes.

I was very satisfied with the friendliness of the staff and, of course, the quality of the food. I can highly recommend this restaurant.

After visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, I googled where to eat, and this place was at the top of the list based on reviews: we weren't disappointed! Everything was excellent, especially the dessert! And we were able to eat in peace despite it being mid-August and there were a million people around!

We had lunch before the walk to the castle and the cheeseburgers were amazing. On the way back we decided to get the eiskaffee which was also good. But the best thing was the staff, they were really kind.

The food was cooked within 10 minutes. That's really fast ⚡️, but the food was ready and very tasty 😋. We ordered a Hangover Burger 🍔, goulash soup, and a salami pizza 🍕. TIP: Get Fry'n Dippers - they're better than regular fries 🍟. The burger seemed good and I really liked it. It had bacon and egg (a hangover burger). The pizza wasn't anything special, but everyone enjoyed it (unfortunately, no photo, as my sister fell right over the food, and the same goes for the soup). According to my father, the beer was good. The goulash soup was delicious, but the portion was very small, as soups are a starter and not a main course. There was a wide selection of dishes, drinks, and desserts. They also served traditional Bavarian dishes, and the building also has a traditional feel. The prices were quite high, and in total (including drinks) we paid €73 [now we're broke (ironic)]. There's a large outdoor and indoor area. There are umbrellas outside, so you can eat outside even in bad weather. The waiters/staff were very nice.

The food was delicious. My wife and children were very satisfied and full. I had the Wiener Schnitzel, which was delicious. I only regret not having the roast.

The prices are reasonable, but the selection is quite limited. The food is simple, even a little too minimalist. It's obvious that it's so popular with tourists that they don't bother too much with quality anymore.

I don't know if it's a restaurant that caters to groups of tourists in tourist areas. Our group of six waited at the door for a long time and found that no waiter was available to greet us. We had to ask a waiter and got the excellent answer: Can't you find an empty seat by yourself? After we sat down, we waited for 20 minutes but no one came to take our order. I was so hungry that I wanted to lie down and take a nap while watching the meals of other tables being served. Suddenly, a male waiter came over and said: This is a restaurant, not a hotel. If you want to sleep, get out of here. When ordering drinks, he didn't even ask about them. He forced everyone to have a beer. He had opinions on what to order, and we had to listen to his suggestions to avoid another meal. The Wiener schnitzel that came up at the end was the worst fried pork chop I've ever had in my three years of living in Germany. It was dry, small in size, and expensive. The fries were only slightly warm and had no seasoning at all. The advantages can only be said to be close to zero. (⁠・⁠∀⁠・⁠) This kind of restaurant can continue to operate because it has a good location.

We had lunch there today and honestly the food was okay, we had a cheeseburger, steakhouse fries, sausages, pretzel, apple strudel, coffee and beer. All fine, not particularly impressive but edible and better than average restaurant quality. The reason for 1 star is because we were FORCED to pay tip. I did my Google search and understand that unlike North America, tips in Germany is appreciated but not mandatory. Considering we did not receive that much service other than servers taking our orders and bringing us food (when we need some extras such as ketchup or so, I have to walk inside to the kitchen area and ask them myself, as we can't find the servers other than the time they bring us food), I tend to pay no tip. When I told the server I don't want to pay tip, he forced us to pay by saying it is a must (mandatory) to pay tip. Honestly it's not the matter of that few euros, it's how he presented it and FORCED us to pay.

A very cozy and rustic restaurant with a farmhouse style. Wide selection of local dishes, very reasonably priced for the central location near the castles. Very friendly and humorous staff. Almost an insider tip among the hustle and bustle of tourists... We'd gladly return!

We were looking for a place that we could grab lunch before we went to our reservation at Hohenschwangau Castle and found this place on Google maps. The food was great (my friend got the Weiss Wurst and I can definitely say it was authentic and delicious) and our drinks hit the spot. Our waiter was happy to serve us and made us feel welcome. This restaurant is also right near where the bus from Füssen drops you off so it was a very easy walk. Would recommend!

Ambience, food and service at the restaurant was excellent. Special thanks to Elke for looking after us and making our lunch visit so special. She was friendly and accomodating.

Came for the castle and left with a BBW (Bier, Brezel, Weißwurst). Service was decent considering it’s a tourist spot. Food was yet again good, but not so memorable. Seemed like there’s a lot of space for larger parties if necessary but most folks were here in smaller groups.

We were there on May 7th and were very disappointed. We specifically checked the reviews beforehand and decided on Kainz. The service is okay, the ambiance too, but the food is at best canteen-level. We had the roast pork for a whopping €20 (in Füssen the day before, it was really good for €17 with beer sauce at Schwanen). The meat was too thick and dry; it can't have been due to the cooking time, because like with good roast pork, you can barely eat the fat. The best part was the cabbage, the sauce was a bit overdone, and the dumplings were a disaster: half the soup on the outside was completely overcooked and rubbery on the inside, devoid of any flavor, neither potato nor salt. How they manage to do that is beyond me. The food arrived less than 10 minutes after ordering, and the place was still empty, so there was no reason to serve something like that!!! The service listened to the criticism in the end, but the bill remained at just under €50 for a beer and a fruit juice spritzer. My recommendation: eat a bratwurst there or try Hotel Müller, where you can get wild food for the same price, and it can't be any worse.

Stopped in for a quick lunch right before our Neuschwanstein Castle tour and overall had a pretty good meal. We were able to sit outside and had great views of the castle. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered arrived quickly. They have indoor seating and out, but I would recommend the outdoor seating because it has great views of the castle and the forrest. For my meal I ordered the sausages in water which was an odd presentation but I enjoyed it. It wasn’t a lot of food but we also didn’t want to fill up because we had to do a ton of walking. I would recommend overall especially if you are looking for a quick and casual cafe.

There were three waiters, one of whom was in a rush to place an order, thought he was a dick and ordered beer for everyone without authorization, and even choked on the fact that the juice was for girls. Another waiter at checkout asked: Should I pay by credit card, cash or Japanese yen? We order food in English and chat in Chinese. This is racial discrimination. But the food is ok. One waiter was not respectful, sexism, while ordering, another waiter was racism. We are not Japanese. We don’t pay by Japanese yen, okay?

We were in the town during the Easter holidays to look at the castles. We then went to this café and treated ourselves to something sweet. It was very tasty and the staff is very friendly. I can only recommend it.

A very spacious place, with a lot of wood, very pleasant. The staff was very friendly and attentive. And the food was very good, we ordered some sausages with potatoes and sauerkraut, and everything was delicious, including the chocolate souffle for dessert. The price, taking into account the tourist nature of the area, seemed reasonable to me.

A quiet corner of taste and comfort — Restaurant Café Kainz. Sophistication in simplicity — this is what comes to mind after the visit. The menu is balanced: traditional dishes are prepared with attention to detail. Everything is fresh, beautifully served, with that same European elegance. The meat dishes and desserts were especially memorable — impeccable. The coffee is aromatic, served with warmth and care. The service is top notch: unobtrusive, polite, with attention to detail. It is nice when you feel respect for the guest. This is a place where you want to return — to be in silence, eat deliciously and feel like a welcome guest.

We visited the restaurant today, knowing full well that one shouldn't expect culinary excellence in a typical tourist destination. However, we were extremely disappointed by the quality of the food and the value for money. The menu didn't list pork knuckle (although other guests seemed to be getting it, which I would have liked to order as well), so I opted for a Wiener Schnitzel, assuming that you couldn't go wrong with such a classic dish – far from it. The schnitzel turned out to be a cheap frozen pressed meat, served with the cheapest fries, and all for a whopping €20. Anyone who's ever had a Tillmas Toastie knows what I mean. Other dishes may be better, but this schnitzel was definitely the worst I've ever had. The service was very friendly, and the ambiance was nice, but the food is simply a tourist rip-off. Considering the high price, I expect at least better quality.

After being out in the cold, this was a lovely little inn to stop by at. The space is both roomy and homely and the staff were absolutely lovely with good senses of humour! The food is good, and came out quick. The Spaghetti Carbonara was delicious and very filling. Prices are also very good!
